hello gay people dot com is anyone else going gently insane about the whole "We have retaken Skyhold from the demons that infested it, and there we've brought refugees from this onslaught. How fitting that the fortress that housed my people when we waged war against Corypheus should serve to once again protect the innocent from would-be gods." thing????
idk there's something about the image of the inquisitor back in skyhold after ten years. back in their chambers, the war room, the herald's rest. a decade on and somehow the odds feel even more impossible this time around and maybe that's ever so slightly because skyhold, once busy and bustling, simmering with zeal and pride, is now sitting dark and empty and sad. the skeleton crew that keep it do their best, dust and crumbling mortar are easily fixed, but nothing can dull the slow, steady ache of time and memory.
then skyhold once again floods with people - the noble, the common, warriors and mages and all other manner of folk - and this time, rather than spoiling for a fight, these people are terrified. most are injured, some are dying, all have lost everything. the grounds and great hall are once again fit to bursting, but skyhold remains so desperately, achingly sad. the rotunda is conspicuously empty. as is the library, the rookery, josephine's office, the training grounds, the undercroft. there are new advisors, of course, and the return of a few old friends, but they don't play wicked grace, don't eat together, don't sit and tell long stories into the small hours. the hearth in the inquisitor's room is never as warm as it used to be, the gardens are never as green.
everything is a pale imitation of what was, and the inquisitor, who once was the beating heart of it all, realises that skyhold can never be their home again.
something like that.

Thinking about Roderic Day's theory of "licensing" as opposed to brainwashing, as an explanation for how the Western proletariat comes to adopt their bourgeoisie's world outlook: people in positions of relative privilage who haven't put much thought into their politics adopt symplistic beliefs that give them the license not to worry about their country's geopolitical economic position.
Specifically I am thinking about how this can be exended to understand phenomena like July 4th. Many have already called attention to the horribly misguided way in which "progressives" will adopt a patriotic posture to claim "this isn't what America [sic] is really about", but there's another type of patriotism I see from people who otherwise don't care about American Values™--who may even believe that they hate the US--but who will engage with the holiday as a sort of kitsch. In Tumblr terms, we could call this the let people enjoy things type of imperial chauvanism, as they tend to respond to criticisms of what the day is celebrating with statements like "I'm just here for the burgers and fireworks." For many people in the US, July 4th is the day where USAmerican flags lose their conservative, white trash signification and become a national costume--in a bizarre way, they appear depoliticized!* July 4th gives such people the license to be patriotic without having to be patriots. I think that many are being honest when they say that they only came for the fireworks; what they miss is that they are only able to enjoy the fireworks because they materially benefit from US imperialism.
*For otherwise politically disengaged US citizens I mean. The political nature of the flag, of course, works even if you don't believe in it.

Gotham was welcoming of Amity Parkers.
not as loving as with her own but she was way more patient with the people of her friend that any other outsiders.
so the people of Amity those Liminal and aware of her tried to pay her kindness back, to a reasonable degree of course but they could help and she let them stay so they did.
Paulina took it upon herself to make a nice place in the fashion district, she sold some charms to help with the curses as much as she could.
Sam being Sam opened a surprisingly Ivy Approved community garden and was very hard to convince not to join the Eco-terrorist but they managed to, thankfully.
the Fentons designed filters to help the 'Parkers but it was good for the city too if too little to do much.
Val hadn't moved here (yet) but she visited often enough and each visit volunteered somewhere.
Gotham grown to adore them almost as their own, she even hid them from the bats for a while to let them settle (and maybe help her more before her Knight inevitably got paranoid)
Gotham laughed when her King stumbled into her Red Knight, you could hear it in subtle ways the sounds of the night flowed just a little too much like a giggle.
Hood did deserve more good things she's proud of herself!
