Reading a translation of Gender Queer

1) my general review of the book is pretty neutral/mixed

but more importantly 2) The translator translated the spivak neopronouns! so we have like, canon neopronouns (in addition to hen/hens). (e/em/eres: "spør em hva e vil ha i teen eres" - example from the book).

Ok, so I checked all the available dubs on Netflix Belgium to see how other languages refer to nonbinary people and... they handle it pretty good!

I don't have the answer for all languages tbh, I'm not familiar enough with japanese or korean and their language structure to tell how they translated the series, but almost all other languages either give no pronouns (the language works that way) or use they/them (or some similar neutral pronoun).

Hebrew and Mandarin use 'masculine' they/them, which is a pronoun that naturally exists in both languages though using it to refer to a single individual is pretty new. Great languages for demigender people to learn!

Romance languages (think Portuguese, French, Spanish, ect.) use neopronouns. It's fun to see that, though it was recently created, all romance neopronouns look and sound similar (ile, iel, elu, ...)!

Three languages, however, directly went the "he/him" way:

Castellano (Spaniard Spanish), which is weird cause you can choose not to use pronouns;

Romanian, which sucks but considering most romanian rp servers ban you if you play as the "wrong" gender... I get it;

Norwegian, which came as a surprise.

Like IDK if it's just my European perception of the Nordics, but I always see them as super open-minded. Not sure what happened here...

All that to say, I'm happily surprised to see that China is shown as more open to nonbinary people in kids media than some European countries. Way to go, guys!

Neurodivergency

I’m undiagnosed AuDHD (Autism + ADHD), ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), APD (Auditory Processing Disorder), SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder), and Pure O OCD (“Purely Obsessional” Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), medically recognized (but undiagnosed) PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and SAD (Social Anxiety Disorder), and diagnosed MDD (Major Depressive Disorder) and GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder).

I’m also undiagnosed BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder), Trichotillomania (hair pulling/picking disorder), Excoriation Disorder (skin picking disorder), and Misophonia.

I’m undiagnosed PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) and/or PME (Premenstrual Exacerbation), and hopefully soon can be diagnosed.

Questioning POTS, HSD or EDS/hEDS. (NOT claiming to have this or self-diagnosed as of yet, I am still doing research, but I do have lots of signs that point to these things.)

My special interests are Wings Of Fire, Harry Potter, Dragons in general, and Neurodivergency.

I have no current hyperfixations that I’ve noticed, and I’m extremely low on dopamine because of it. /silly /srs

I have verbal shutdowns, shutdowns and meltdowns in general, I mask without realizing it a lot, and I’m usually in burnout. I also have severe imposter syndrome that I deal with literally 24/7.

I used to cope by using maladaptive daydreaming, so I relate a lot to maladaptive daydreamers a lot.

All of my Nonhumanity is due to a combination of Past Lives, Fate, and Neurodivergency. I believe I was all my ‘types in past lives, and only found out about it in this life due to my neurodivergency.

I’ve been awakened for only a few months now. I want gear, but I don’t have any right now. I’m making my own wings currently, and I hope to have them done soon if my ADHD brain will allow me.

I do believe in the multiverse.

I’ve known about reality shifting since around 2020 or 2021, and started my journey then.

I spent a lot of my time trying to shift, even though I didn’t have the proper mindset or knowledge to shift.

I took a huge break after trying for only a month or so, only trying to shift occasionally.

I’ve come back to it in 2024 after finding shiftblr, having more knowledge, a better mindset, and more motivation.

I’ve shifted once to a parallel reality, where I relived/redid a day.

I have way too many DRs to count, and I’m thinking about permashifting to my Better CR DR.

It's carefully placed bait to hopefully someday get someone to complain about neopronouns, but it's actually just the Norwegian equivalent of "they/them".

Except the second punchline is that they are neopronouns, because the Scandinavian languages didn't have a neuter pronoun until recently. "Hen/hens" was coined in Swedish and has been adopted in Norwegian.

It's a halfway point between "that" (den) and "he or her" (han, hun).

I have a vested interest in neopronouns, so the above site (linked in blue text) was a cool find! I'm not... entirely sure why it wants you to be over 18, but w/e. It's just pronouns on there /shrug

+ it's not just russian! The other languages are german, english, ladino, norwegian, portuguese, swedish, ukrainian, chinese, spanish, french, dutch(?), polish, romanian, vietnamese, & japanese! So that's pretty cool.

(It's almost definitely not the most comprehensive list out there, but a good resource nonetheless!)

I just added these pronouns to my profile, I figured I'd make a post too. English, French and Norwegian neopronouns and other pronouns I like going by. I've included examples and rating. I'll probably find more and change my mind at some points, but here's an update.

i’m a queer scottish/norwegian/english speaker and i’ve gotten made fun of for neopronouns far more times than i can count because in places where i have norwegian or scottish speaking moots/friends i will put both english and norwegian/scottish pronouns in my bio, it doesn’t help that they/them in norwegian is de/dem, which can easily pass for neos
