“I can’t,” Jason says stiffly, short and sharp. It’s a flaw. It’s a failure. 

In Jason’s eyes, anyway. 

Dick has a slightly different perspective, and intends to stick with it. 

“Okay,” he says, leaning back a little but stroking down Jason’s back again; not mentioning any “can’t”s of his own. Jason’d think he was patronizing him if he did, he’s sure. He wouldn’t be, but Jason also thinks saying “I can’t” himself is a failure. “Then what else sounds good?” 

Jason gives him a suspicious look, like he thinks the question’s a trap. Dick understands the impulse, especially coming from another Bat, but wishes Jason wasn’t having it in his bed with his hand on his naked spine. 

He does understand it, though. 

“Would you–on your back,” Jason says, a little stiff. “Could we do it that way instead?” 

“Sounds good,” Dick lies with an easy smile instead of saying “I can’t”.

It’s a flaw. It’s a failure. 

Just not in the same way.

"I don't know if you remember, but I was a student of yours," Christine said, her heart beating wildly, "Of course, that was over ten years ago, so I wouldn't blame you if you don't, I'm sure it's hard to remember every student you've ever had!"

She could hear her own voice rising in pitch but was helpless to stop it.

"With twenty-some students in a class, seven class periods a year, times all the years you've been teaching- you must've taught thousands of students after me by now!"

Christine cringed inwardly at how badly she was blowing it. Her one chance to show him that she was a professional and competent colleague, and instead she seemed to be every bit the meek student he'd had twelve years ago.

It certainly didn't help that Mr. Carriere was still simply looking down at her with that inscrutable gaze from behind that mysterious mask he still wore, not saying a word.

Then, just as Christine was about to apologize for bothering him,

"Christine Daae," he said with a slow nod, "Yes, I remember."

Christine lit up, feeling as though her heart might burst.

"You do?"

"Of course, you were an exceptional student."

As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.
