Fate: A Winx Saga committed the worst literary crime and I'm mad about it

First things first, yes I know I'm late to this. I never had any real interest in watching it, especially after seeing how widely disliked it was, but I've been bored out of my mind to a physically painful degree and I needed something familiar with new-ish content so I gave it a shot.

The first season wasn't. awful per se, but it wasn't very good either. Everyone was incredibly one-dimensional, the story felt forced and all off. Even looking at it as its own thing and not as a Winx thing, it was just a horribly written series.

But, it was something to do and...actually no that's just all it was. Something to pass the time with. Either way, I started watching season 2, and I watched the entire thing.

Currently halfway through the last episode which was crawling along so slowly I ended up researching how it ended and when I tell you I am BEYOND DISAPPOINTED IN THIS.

Flat characters? Sure. That's common enough in cash-grabs.

Forced plots? I mean yeah not everyone knows how to write thing like life so it feels like biting into a burger or pizza or something instead of a wilty piece of lettuce, but it's fine I can tolerate that.

But being BORING?! Not only, right, not only was there MINIMAL connection between season 1 and 2 plot wise, but there was absolutely NOTHING EXCITING GOING ON. Its like they weren't even writing for an audience - did this actually make it past the concept art or did it spawn in and then they immediately started casting? Because what the hex is this mess.

I'd rewrite it myself if I wasn't second-hand burnt out on all the fairy school stories that exist right now.

so i started this show and it just gets worse and worseeeee not only did it lift the romance subplot directly from twilight (and not well) but they also are trying to play the forbidden love angle hard in the fantasy racism vein except it's a "cross-species" relationship between the two whitest people i've ever seen in my life and there are three people of color in the whole (first season of the) show who aren't villains and it seems that every other episode (and sometimes ebery episode and sometimes twice an episode!) there is a man physically or magically subjugating a woman and i keep waiting for the big reveal at the end to be stolen from fucking rainbow rowell

Hmm... it's interesting how they made Luz wear a witch's cloak in Hunting Palisman - the episode where she introduces Flapjack to Hunter. This is also the episode where Hunter defies Belos by choosing Luz over him. He goes back to his palace empty-handed and he doesn't hand over Flapjack to Belos. Unbeknownst to Hunter, he is following Caleb's footsteps.

But then, in Hollow Mind, they made the choice to have Luz not wear her witches cloak - instead they made Luz wear a jacket with a giant "E" on it. They could have given Luz a completely different outfit like they did in Hunting Palisman. But they don't... they make her wear this specific jacket...

...They also make Hunter wear Caleb's symbol in Hollow Mind... an episode where Luz and Hunter are trapped in Philip's mind... where we can see paintings of the two most important characters in Philip's life - his brother and a witch from another world.

But I'm sure this is all unintentional.

Hunter and Philip's relationship completely deteriorates because of Luz, which leads to Philip's decision to kill Hunter. She shows Hunter Belos' true nature and she offers Hunter sanctuary at The Owl House right after he finds out Belos has been lying to him his whole life... Luz saves Hunter's life and changes it forever.

I don't know why people think that portrait in Raya Lucaria is Sellen. All of the other portraits correspond to the founder of a conspectus, and the stone crowns are bestowed on people whose pursuits the Academy has "deemed worthy". Sellen fits neither of those. She isn't founding any school of sorcery, but rather trying to research one whose foundations have already been laid by Lusat and Azur. Beyond this, the Academy expelled her and considers her an apostate, not just for her pursuit of the primeval current, but for her experimenting on other students and making them into graven masses. And FURTHER beyond that is the way Thops speaks of her as though she was, at that time when she was with the Academy, a fellow student like him. He says she was considered 'promising' and that he 'followed her' but that there was a gulf between them due to her superiority in skill. A student would expect a teacher to be more skilled, so his phrasing only makes sense if he's speaking of her as a fellow student.

So that just leaves me wondering, though...who *is* it a portrait of?

The Wizard Spite

(The Wizard, The Witch, And The Wild One Original Character)

The Wizard Spite, an illusionist of The Citadel. When he chose his name cloak, it was not due to his feelings towards the world around him in the current, but more so to how he wanted to feel eventually. An illusionist of the Citadel has little use outside of psychological warfare. But at the core of an illusion is creativity. If you can't imagine what you want to create, then your illusions have no substance. A Minor Illusion is the most basic of cantrips, and really only used to clean up minor details that you don't need to bother with. But only an illusionists would include shading The Wizard Spite showed immense aptitude for learning and memorization. Being able to look at a page of incantations and see it clearly in his mind caused him to get noticed quickly. Passing the required tests, he began tracks to become a wizard. Though it was often noted that he would take notes on the Faunaloges more than the magic theory. His notebooks contained writings and minor sketches of people and objects. Their movements and idiosyncrasies, the clothes and light. Spite assumed he had to be a wizard. It's something people of Citadel aspired to, and what his parents recommended to him. If he is able to, then he should. He didn't know what else he wanted to be either. So becoming a Wizard felt right. When it came time for him to pick a specialization and track, he tried for Conjuration. He hoped that conjuring things would allow him to gain a better understanding of the mechanics of physiology. Though the magical theory around Conjuration ended up not being for him, and he was transferred over to an Illusionist track, one not sought out by many.

An illusionist has two goals when they are casting their spells. 1) To Deceive, Distract, and/or Entertain their target(s). 2) To Study, Analyze, and Observe their Target(s). An illusion's effectiveness increases with knowledge of the target.

Spite knew how to watch people, when he was with his friends he found his mind wandering to how their mouths moved as they spoke, or how eyes move. Those subtle differences in how people react to things is what Spite was best at. In the year he would get his Name Cloak, he initially was going to become The Wizard Scrutinize. Though he then found out exactly what Illusionist do in and outside the Citadel. Fear is a powerful tool, and is held in the Empire's hand. Not often are they called upon to do so, but sometimes a Wizard that has stepped to far out of line needs to have zipped lips. Enchanters and their abilities to Modify memories can only last so long. But the image of their world burning around them lasts forever. He accidentally found this information out, though he wasn't as shaken as he might've thought he would be. After all, this is what he has been trained to do so far, and more yet to come. He knew this was right, wizards are defined by their secrets. If the Citadel let all Wizards and Soldiers speak so freely, then how quickly might everything crumble? When he stood their and chose Spite as his Name Cloak, the meaning was not directed at the world around him, but at the person he would become. Hatred directed towards his future self for what he will do for his Empire. The Wizard Spite lives alone, a man known for his bitterness more than anything else. Once a great artist and entertainer in his 20's, now a drained and bleak individual in his 50's.

have been rooting around looking for spooky aesthetic supernatural series to watch, and randomly dipped into watching Legacies for the first time. It's one of those things where I can see why it's a 'hear me out' series for a lot of ppl, so I'm waiting for the show to grow, there's a lot of stuff that I like here but....

I'm like 6 eps in, operating on the assumption that these old ass looking teens are probably meant to be 18 like they often are, but I forgot that in a lot of these teen drama series they're actually 16, and in fact have been 15 this whole time which they drop after a sex scene and everything!!!!! MAN!!! I wish there were more shows like this for adults dflaksfjadskfja

Chapter 34: What Has No End

It’s time.

I stared at Merula. She stood there so calm, so ready, with her back straight and hands still, her wand arm relaxed at her side. I accepted my wand from her. It tingled unhappily against my palm. 

I asked, “Did you know about this?”

She said, “Not the time, Flores,” which made me feel ill. More ill than I already felt. But then she added, “Lily. Are you waiting for them to take the castle?” and I snapped out of it. 

With a twirl of my wand, I vanished all the ice, mud, and water from my clothes, though not the vague smell of algae nor the smarting bruise that was certainly forming on my cheek. Boots no longer sloshing with each step, I nodded to Merula. 

We Apparated in front of the Scarlett Cauldron, two sharp cracks ringing out down the dark, empty street. My legs wobbled, unsteady while my head stopped spinning. When my vision cleared, I saw it—there in the distance. Above the silhouetted towers of the castle, the emerald skull hung in the sky, vivid and terrible, exactly as it had in my vision over a year ago. The Death Eaters had been here, it always said, and they had killed. 

“Oh!” came the gasp behind me. Penny sprinted from the Cauldron’s door. “You made it! And you brought Merula, thank goodness. Did you get Bill’s—” She halted in front of me with another gasp. “Lily, what happened to your face?” She instantly rounded on Merula. “What did you do?”

Merula, in Auror mode or not, had the good sense to take a half-step back. I intervened. “Pen, the Mark. How long’s it been there?”

“About five minutes, when I sent the message,” Penny said anxiously. “Maybe more now. I know that’s not long, but…”

“Long enough for casualties,” Merula said.

Penny rounded on her again. “Don’t say that!”

“Okay.” I tapped my fingers. “We need to get to the school. The Mark’s over the Astronomy Tower. We can Apparate to the front gate and then—”

“And then run to the tower?” Merula said. “That’ll take too long. We fly.”

“What about the protections?” I asked. 

“I get the feeling they’re not working too well right now.”

“What does that mean?” Rather than answer, Merula gestured vaguely at the castle and the skull overhead, so I said, “Never mind. Penny, we can ride tandem on my broom. And Merula—”

“Don’t need one,” Merula said.

“Right.”

Penny looked at me. Shivering in the summer night air, she said, “Lily, you don’t think someone’s actually—”
