I want to enjoy this game so bad bc I paid money for it and Iâve invested 70 hours of my life into it already. but Iâve gotten to a point where itâs SO hard not to get critical every time anything happens. im losing it
#I started off really enjoying it!! so I know I didnât go in with a negative bias#it just happens that a lot of choices made in the game run me the wrong way and I keep noticing them#too many noticing thems is adding up to make it just feel⌠weird most of the time#I really enjoy the gameplay. itâs visually very pretty. I like the puzzles pretty well#combat is fun except that Iâve hit a stage where they seem to have increased difficulty by increasing the number of enemies#and not by like. creating new and interesting kinds of bosses or mechanics for the fights. and thatâs frustrating#I donât like not knowing what to do bc of chaos rather than not knowing what to do bc I need to learn new strategies or patterns#I like the characters a lot but some of the dialogue is like. clumsy#some people say things that feel stilted. or they have to reiterate what words mean every time they come up#instead of trusting the player to remember that this is a proper noun that dropped in the past#how many times do I have to hear bellara specify that the nadas dirthalen is the archive spirit⌠70 hours in I think she can stop specifying#and a lot of stuff just fits together weirdly#like I got a quest from Harding to go to the lords of fortune. I get there and talk to her and we have one conversation#then she gets a headache and is like âi have to go to this placeâ âitâs a trapâ âyepâ âIâll pack my thingsâ#(no continuation quest activates. thatâs the whole thing)#also speaking of quests. I love the visual style of varricâs narrating after all the important quests#but the fact that he literally just spoils everything thatâs about to happen is WILD?? dude let there be some mystery#I donât need to know that taashâs big bad is gonna kidnap their mom next. why would you tell me that.#im losing my mind

almost cried at school TWICE today because I was (am) stressed about the ACT and then I had a calc test and I had no idea how to even start one of the problems
#theo.txt#school didnât bother to tell us that weâd all been registered for the online ACT#like they didnât warn us about that so we all thought itâd be on paper#not just students who donât read the bulletin. all of the teachers thought that too#so now people like me (absolutely CANNOT take that test on a computer) donât have time to request accommodations#even if we already had an accommodation for paper-only testing in our 504s! because they left no time for the whole process!!#god Iâm so mad about this#my mom keeps telling me I just need to learn some strategies & she is very much not helping#I donât need a strategy I need paper because I have dyslexia and I canât read off a screen#& I also need to be able to draw and write directly on the questions for math stuff#so now Iâm going to do worse than I was hoping and Iâll have to wait a while before I can retake it on paper#because I need to get my 504 updated and then do the whole request process#have I mentioned that the counselor for my grade quit last month?#anyways Iâm kind of freaking out & as much as these are PMS emotions I canât seem to calm myself down

early-daily notes - feb 18, 2024
Mom's death-aversary today. I'm planning to keep to myself, mostly. I have some things queued, such as multiple Saint Sebastian posts.
My body feels strange, as I'm fighting sleep. I swear I'm going to bed after making this post.
I had giddy laughter after the "height" of conversation last night. 10 minutes later, the night felt very empty and quiet. I thought of the few, brief mentions of death from our conversation, talking of time passing - at least 10 years into the future, if not many more.
Even if I'm late to things in life, like a career or moving out on my own, I'm mostly fine with that. The years I "lost" to anxiety and health and whatever... I needed that time to develop as a person. And I needed more time to sit with things, by myself, to refine what developed. I will be late to things in life; I may not have a wedding or biological children. But I have very good friends, ones that wish me the best and help me come up with ideas for potential strategies.
If my later years are content, with friends and found-family, then I won't mind not hitting the other milestones. To be loved and to love others, in whatever capacity, seems to be enough.
My mom was very alone, socially, for a large chunk of her life. She burnt bridges and didn't take care of relationships. She didn't have a funeral. We didn't contact old friends, because they weren't around. (Some had already passed, as well.) Dad stayed by her side almost til the end. He ran home to take a quick shower, and she was gone when he returned.
To paint it as a pretty picture, I said it was mom's way of letting him go. The artistic lies I tell myself to make her seem better are truly a comfort.
I told my phone friend about how I separate her into 2 people in my mind: like how fairytales would have the "wicked step-mother" figure, so that a "true mother" can remain positive/good. But it's also that I didn't understand the context of things during my childhood, where some of the classic "good" memories happened.
I learned she did some really terrible things, back when I didn't understand. I remember laughing at some things, but knowing more information, it made things seem so pathetic. But why would consequences mean so little to her, to potentially ruin her family?
The best comfort phone friend offered was that whatever mental health stuff mom had, it might've affected her ability to empathize. She already lacked judgement on stuff, and we knew she was doctor-shopping, so we couldn't trust whatever diagnosis was on paper. Plus, some of it wasn't understood well in the 90s.
Again, artistic lies, it's much nicer to think she wasn't purposely cruel to us in these thousand-papercuts ways.
My heart just feels pretty heavy. I will sit with these feelings today, let them out of the cage for today. We will negotiate their impact, deescalate things, tire them out, then put them back to bed.
And putting myself to bed is my next step, after I brush my teeth.

if fans wanted to include peach in stuff they write, would that be okay? and how would they write peach's personality? aside from "FIGHT ME" anyway, i think that much is a given lol. i only really write the anime characters 'cause that's what i know, but it sounds like it'd be kinda fun to try making a version of ash that fits into this blog's universe! nerf'd Obviously, but i think she'd probably appreciate how hands-on he gets when training his pokemon!
Ok, I get a lot of these messages, and I often hear folks wanting to throw peach into their stories and comics and writings, and I will always simply ask that if itâs published online publicly, to be linked to it so I can snoop and enjoy the content too. If someone asks about her in your work, let them know about the blog I guess? But literally I love that people take this stuff, these characters and stories, and make new stuff with it. No ones making money off my work here? So whereâs the issue? Go for it buddy, knock yourself out, Iâm all for it.
For you, and all the others out there who want to add peach, and other characters to your world building, I will give you a detailed rundown of the main lot, and how they behave, what they do, how they function. You can use that, use bits, or use none of it, I do not mind at all. If youâre creating something, youâre in control, not me.
So, peach doesnât actually fight people as much as youâd think. Sheâs very aware most cannot and do not want to do that, and so she likes to keep to herself with regards to that aspect of her life, she doesnât ask to spar with people, or even bring it up at all, but people ask her all the time, even if they clearly would lose or become hurt should she miscalculate during the fight. She looks at people like they usually create problems, and often has a somewhat reserved nature to other humans. You have to work quite hard to get anything more than formalities out of her. She will dead-pan handle people with blunt and very to-the-point statements, aid whenever possible, but very quickly get back to handling the Pokemon she so carefully tends. Her focus is clear, sheâs all about hard work, her very small select family, and the Pokemon.
Her brutal, loud and brash personality only comes out with friends, family, difficult humans, OR any Pokemon. She will joke and laugh and play with Pokemon, but clam up around humans, maintaining tight body language and generally will be a little cold by regular standards. She does however have some weaknesses in this emotionless shield she puts up. When peach was young she was always angry, which swung so fast to sadness, back and forth. Her teenage years it just got worse and worse, it was crippling at points. She is to this day, full of fire and rage, even sadness, but now she has learnt to control it, to use it. When she sees that in others, itâs familiar, and she is pushed to drop the front, and be very real with the person. Underdogs I suppose, people who get bad reps, but deserve the same as everyone else. She canât ignore it.
Once you start to pry open her personality, youâll find sheâs a lot more laid back and fun than originally appeared, you just have to work hard to find that side of her. She will meme reference, canât dance to save her life, loves her coffee, and can be caught in quiet contemplation while gardening. This hobby is her calmest, and often is why she can stay so level headed when her quiet rage boils up again. Without time outside she will become grouchy, a little snippy, and lethargic. Will not go in the ocean for any reason other than life or death, is fine with ponds and rivers, or water at wading height. Likes the rain.
With regards to her training others, they usually have to tolerate her somewhat strict nature. She is a little....unforgiving, holds a grudge if you make a lot of mistakes, and has no tolerance for ignorance in the age of information that we all live in. In previous posts Iâve mentioned sheâs only recently selected two students, after many years of testing kids who want to learn from her. Hundred tried out, only two have ever been approved. How she teaches is very fast paced, be prepared to get some scrapes and bruises, she will test your physical and emotional tolerances with intense tasks, carefully watching students like a hawk. Bad posture in your stance? Sheâll be the first to tell you to sort it out. Not hearing your Pokemon partner? Right, now you spend the day without using words trying to communicate, letâs see how you like not being listened to.
This is a woman who has spent her life saying very little, and watching everything, she watches Pokemon and can see an issue from a mile off, and in battles, her observations are why she can react fast, and chose effective strategy to avoid damage and achieve results. Donât let her body fool you, her strongest asset is analysing, watching, planning. Those skills have over the years transferred to people too. As a student, mistakes donât go unnoticed with this professor.
Her methods are harsh but fair, and should you prove yourself, she will protect you with her life.
Because of her disinterest in kids and lots of noise, she does pass the training of students on to the other staff members whenever possible. Grey takes on the lions share of battle lessons, he is far calmer, more open and friendly, with patience for people, and an empathy that peach sometimes struggles to have. When you go through a lot of harsh training, and difficult events, itâs hard to change how you feel or think, with peach, well, sheâs been through it. Most do not come out the other end in one piece, but she did, and it made her strong. You may think I mean strong like buff and big, and yeah sure she is, but I mean it mentally more than anything. Peach will not quit. She has learnt to destroy the boundaries that stop people getting hurt, gone is the fear that freezes you in your tracks, that feeling that youâll pass out if you go one more step. Sheâs learnt to ignore it.
This means sheâs a little forgetful at how it is to be normal, to be vulnerable and soft and squishy like students so usually are.
She has her issues, but for the most part, visitors get a laugh, a smile, a calm assertive confidence, and facts. She will indulge those who have genuine interest, or show a connection with nature, an understanding of the balance that needs to be struck for everyone to live well together.
Despite her many flaws, sheâs fiercely protective, and will go above and beyond to defend the island, itâs staff, the Pokemon and the visitors. Injustice is her biggest gripe, along with littering, and she doesnât stand by quietly if something happens that seems unfair.
You will not see her without Valka, her vulpix, close by. That Pokemon doesnât like to be touched by strangers, at all, and will run the second someone comes at her with that intent. Peach will scold you for pushing yourself onto her, should you persistently try to get close to pet Val. They are in sync, if peach is sad, Val is sad, if Val is stressed, peach is stressed, and so on. They are inherently connected, itâs just been that long, the psychic bridge between them has been built, and reinforced over the years.
The only other Pokemon who follows her so endlessly is Booker, a teddiursa whoâs pretty rough looking. He quietly trots behind, grouchy and stoic, they fight closely together a lot. He lost his mom a long time ago to poachers, and peach took him in, and changed her whole life for him. Not many people know, but Booker was the reason she left the rangers, changed career, and got so strong. Will tolerate people petting him but isnât keen at all, grumbles a lot and tries to move away.
You may also need to know about the others, for the sake of writing, she here a few more bits that may be important to you, or others wanting to do this.
Grey is very tall, very burly, composed, tells bad dad jokes, is a bit of a goof if allowed to be. If he sees a pun, heâll say it. Canât help himself. Very nice guy to work with, good at keeping people calm and grounded. Pokemon are drawn to him like a moth to a flame, he gives off warm energy, and has inhuman amounts of patience. If you wrong his family however, he will snap back.
He grew up in the city, loves to swim and hike and cycle, can snowboard, is really sporty. A total brain box with held items, and boosting stats. He will explore many paths, to make sure visitors and students get the information they need, in a way that can be remembered and retained for later. Is a huge guy, but will get on the floor to play with a tiny Pokemon. Treats big âmeanerâ looking species like babies, very good with all pokemon.
His free time is spent either tinkering, swimming, or trimming his bonsai trees. This guy stares at screens a lot, so appreciates time away from them. Peach built him his own little greenhouse for his trees and tools, which he keeps clean and loves dearly.
His methods as a teacher are built around fun and games, he makes hard work easier to do by distracting trainers from the difficult bits, and focusing in on something more interesting or compelling.
His most commonly seen Pokemon would be a houndoom, Saxon, old battle veteran, retired now to herding and being a good boy. Very gentle, loves a pet.
Pari, now a fully fledged nurse, often oversees the labs front desk and pokecentre features, such as healing pokemon, and informing trainers who come to visit. Her skills with eggs and hatchlings is high, sheâs great with younger Pokemon, and hands out good advice to trainers a lot. Sheâs not a fighter, never was, but can find any file, any study, any book, and any refrence you may need. A true bookworm, loves her romance novels, chat shows and upbeat celebrity gossip mags. Will cry at a lot of stuff, be it sad or happy.
Sheâs got a seriously upbeat personality, but if caught off guard or shocked, she gets a little flustered. Too much chaos will overwhelm her, but usually sheâs on top of things. The years spent on the island have made her better at maintaining composure in emergencies. With lots of siblings, sheâs very competent with others, and has a good ability to disarm cagey people with her jolly nature. Because of this, she can sometimes gain information from trainers that some of the more harsh professors may not have access to. Charming is a word for it.
Her partners are an eevee, and a happiny. They are quite sweet and well adjusted, the eevee gets a bit bouncy if you get it too excited.
#if you dont want to use the refs#im really cool with it#just enjoy yourself buddy#pokemon#prof.peach#peach talks#prof.grey#pari#dotaku island#dotaku staff#PLEASE#just ask me if you dont know something#or feel i missed something in what i wrote

BnHA Chapter 302: As the Todoroki Turns
Previously on BnHA:Â
Today on BnHA: We have a very fun chapter in which (1) Shouto grows up lonely on account of his parents being worried that his siblings will literally try to kill him, (2) Natsu and Fuyu grow up neglected on account of not being special and/or self-destructive enough to attract attention, (3) we get to revisit all of that exciting spousal abuse from chapter 39, and (4) Touya burns to death right on cue, pretty much exactly like we expected it to happen. Thankfully since this is a shounen manga, Horikoshi finds some hope in all this misery as the Todoroki family rallies together, with Shouto getting his long-overdue credit for being a perfect sweet angel who put up with all of this shit for sixteen years and somehow came out of it strong and kind and empathetic and determined. Anyway, so that flashback was a barrel of laughs. But now that itâs over, we can put all of that angst behind us, and move on to... well I guess, probably, more angst. Look, weâre short on variety at the moment. Bear with it.
ouch. we knew this was coming, but still
A+ parenting move there. âho boy, our eldest just tried to murder our youngest, now what? hmm how about we isolate our youngest from all human contactâ
though in their defense, we probably shouldnât have expected this rabidly strength-obsessed fire man and his wife who was groomed since childhood to obey her familyâs whims to have any idea of how to raise stable, well-adjusted offspring
SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS
this is a perfect example of Enjiâs tragically self-revolving viewpoint right here. just because being a hero is your entire world doesnât mean you can just excuse yourself from anything outside of that and act like itâs out of your control. âalas, all I care about is hero stuff and my son canât be a hero, we are doomed to inhabit two different worldsâ no you jackass, itâs called having more than one hobby?? figuring out how to spend some time with your son that doesnât involve training?? the same exact thing you were telling him to do last week, while ignoring that youâve never done that yourself in your life??
that said, yet again we have that complexity though because itâs obvious that Enji at least on some level is aware of his own flaws, even though he seems unwilling or unable to confront them. honestly, from what weâve seen so far, Enjiâs obsession with surpassing All Might might be more accurately called an addiction. he literally canât let go of it even though heâs fully aware of how itâs slowly destroying his life. and so in the same way that a lifelong smoker or alcoholic might tell their child to stay away from cigarettes and booze, Enji tells Touya not to follow down the same path as him, even though he himself doesnât know how to leave that path. so yes, itâs hypocritical as fuck, but thereâs also an element of helplessness there as well because Enji literally doesnât know how not to be like this
though all the same he sure could stand to put in more than just a token effort. but it is what it is, and we already know how much heâll come to regret it
and meanwhile Baby Shouto has frozen his sleep bubble with his quirk lmao. so I guess his quirk did come in early. thatâs a recipe for chaos right there
once again Shouto is ruining every single dramatic panel in this flashback
this was so dark and intense... and then I spotted the lil bubs in the corner. Horikoshi please control yourself
âsome hero you are, running awayâ and then all of a sudden, âFIVE YEARS LATERâ lol what. OKAY THEN
(ETA: love the confirmation that eight-year-old Natsu comes from the Iida school of puberty and is basically a fully grown man, and meanwhile Touya comes from the hobbit school of puberty and has been perpetually eight for the past five years.)
âHEY BIG BRO WANNA COME RECREATE AN ICONIC FLASHBACK SCENE WITH US. WEâVE GOT THE SOCCER BALL RIGHT HERE, BUT HURRY UP OR WEâLL BE TOO LATE FOR SHOUTO TO WALK ON BY AND STOP TO LOOKâ
lol and thatâs literally the next three panels. but Horikoshi did add this extra bit after Endeavor starts to drag Shouto away
seriously Enji what the hell did you expect was going to happen here. âTouya went nuts and tried to kill his little brother out of jealousy, so letâs make it clearer than ever that Shouto is the important child and all the other children are just rejects. this will definitely not make the problem 100x worse, and will surely lead to Touya giving up and living a happy life, having been emotionally abandoned by the person he admired more than anyone.â good for you pal you figured it all out. no need for that plan b, âwe all just go to therapyâ
anyway so heâs telling Shouto he canât play because he needs more endurance training. and meanwhile Touyaâs patented Todoroki Drama Genes are going through puberty as well
definitely the face of a happy, emotionally stable child whoâs not still plotting to murder his younger brother in his sleep
âWELL ACTUALLY MAKESTEâ lol I stand corrected??
apparently during the five year interim Touya actually stopped blaming Shouto and realized Enji was the one at fault. good for him! a bit inconsistent, given what we know happens later, but I assume weâll get to that in good time
anyway. âyeah man I agree that dad sucks, but itâs the middle of the night and Iâm only eight and youâve been monologuing for the past two hours broâ
LMAO
the manga is making my jokes for me, only better. fine then
looks like someoneâs still miffed about that disagreement he had with his baby sister back when she was like four
âFuyu doesnât get properly riled up like I want her to so ranting to her is annoying.â okay but having been in Fuyuâs shoes, it really is just a different way of coping, and I can guarantee sheâs not as fine with the whole situation as Touya might think. but making your peace with something is often a decision thatâs made for emotional self-preservation reasons. and I sure as hell donât fault her for trying to shut out a situation that she had no control over, and trying to make the best of it, and scrape together as normal a childhood as she could manage
and now in Touyaâs defense as well, that is of course easier said than done, and Iâm sure if there was a âpush this button and instantly get over all of the trauma in your lifeâ switch readily available for Touya then he would have pushed it too. unfortunately itâs not always that simple
so now Rei is pleading with Touya not to go train up on his little emo hill again, but it doesnât seem like much has changed since he was eight
I donât think he gives two figs about being a hero; he just wants his father to look at him again with pride. fucking hell, stop doing this to me you damn Todorokis
guh, they keep telling him the same thing over and over again
even if we hadnât already known he was gonna go melt his jawbone off soon, I wouldnât have expected a line like that to go over well
yep. fuck
that Todoroki puberty angst, though. nothing else quite like it
âyou have a part in this too, Momâ ooooooh man
okay but look, heâs not entirely wrong. like, Iâm not saying any of this is Reiâs fault at all! sheâs in an impossible situation where sheâs afraid to stand up to Enji (who by this point has shown that heâs willing to physically attack her if things get too heated, which is terrifying), and doesnât really have anywhere to turn for support. her parents arenât helping much if at all, and Japan in general is just a terrible country to be in when youâre in a domestic abuse situation. everyoneâs expected to put on a brave face and deal with their problems all on their own in private. Rei is basically completely isolated at this point, and she doesnât know what else to do, and so sheâs just trying to keep the situation as stable as possible for the kids
but on the other hand, âfor the kidsâ is also where that argument starts to break down a bit, because at this point Shouto is also being physically abused by his father, and the other kids are continuing to be neglected (emotionally if not physically), as they have been for years. so the situation really isnât stable at all for them. and as a kid, what you end up learning in that type of situation is that you canât rely on either parent. not the abusive one, certainly, but also not the other one who canât protect you from any of it. even if they love you and theyâre trying, theyâre just as helpless as you. Rei is struggling to deal with all of this with one hand tied behind her back, and I get it, and Iâm not blaming her at all. but all the same, particularly given that sheâs (understandably) putting almost all her focus on Shouto, the end result is that the other kids have basically been left to fend for themselves
so yeah! a shitty situation all around. and one of those cases where itâs not really anyoneâs fault (aside from Enjiâs), but I can understand the resentment Touya is feeling all the same. and Iâm so glad Horikoshi is acknowledging this, because itâs something I probably would have been too uncomfortable to bring up otherwise. as it is itâs still an incredibly heavy subject, and one that I probably have too many personal feelings about
anyway, so once again the whole âweâll try talking to him and then just shrug our shoulders when it doesnât workâ parenting strategy doesnât really pan out for the Todoroki fam
sob this boy is Anakin Skywalkering before our very eyes. all thatâs missing is AFO to come and start whispering in his ear. any minute now...
âanyway so then he got taller and his fire changed from red to blueâ
guess weâre getting pretty close then huh. this is the part of the flashback that I really donât want to see, but also unfortunately the part that Iâm most curious about :/
oh for fuckâs --
âWHAT DO YOU MEAN IGNORING HIM FOR FIVE YEARS DIDNâT ACTUALLY DO ANYTHING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMâ sob. back to the drawing board I guess
I thought he got taller, why is he still only like a third of Enjiâs height here
oh fuck me these are armor-piercing feels. this is the heavy artillery right here
ENJI IâM BEGGING YOU PLEASE STOP AND THINK FOR ONE MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE BEFORE DOING SOMETHING YOUâLL REGRET FOR THE REST OF ALL TIME. your child just told you that he still thinks beating All Might is the only thing you care about, and that he believes his existence is a mistake unless he finds some way of doing that for you. please stop for a moment to contemplate that and choose your next words with care and grace and oh who the hell am I kidding
-- OR WE COULD JUST BLAME REI
go on and blame everyone but yourself then!! thatâs a great solution!! jesus christ man I know this is Endeavor at his literal worst but still this is fucking hard to watch
POOR BABY SHOUTO IS YELLING AT HIS DAD NOT TO HIT HIS MOMMY THIS LITTLE BRAVE BOY NEEDS SO MANY HUGS OH MY GOD
AND MEANWHILE THE OTHERS ARE HUDDLED IN THE NEXT ROOM TRYING NOT TO CRY AH FUCK
(ETA: Fuyu covering Natsuâs ears cuts RIGHT TO THE CORE OF ME. Horikoshi if youâre really not gonna get these kids some therapy then at least consider giving your readers some. what is this.)
you know itâs bad when youâre starting to think the part where the kid burns to death might actually be a less traumatic thing to cut to right now
holy shit, actual Rei thoughts
âI was the one who ultimately made that choiceâ well there we go, wonder if thatâll put that whole argument to bed at last. I doubt it, but you never know. actually who am I kidding itâs not gonna settle jack shit lol
oh thank god, they decided it was getting too intense and cut away back to the present to narrate this next (final?) part
get ready to cue up that Alicia Keys. THIS BOY IS ON FIREEEEEEE
yeah I think thatâs one thing we can mostly all agree on. neither of them had any clue what the fuck they were doing pretty much at any point. though I will say that the hypocrisy of him being all âWHY DIDNâT YOU STOP HIMâ followed by him IMMEDIATELY DOING THE EXACT SAME THING is a bit rich
(ETA: and he still has this problem, doesnât he? he froze up when Ending snatched Natsuo, and again when Dabi was attacking Shouto. heâs so afraid of doing the wrong thing that he ends up not doing anything, which of course is exactly what led to Touyaâs death. damn Enji I guess youâve still got some additional character development to unlock.)
and of course neither of them could possibly have known how badly it was going to turn out. like, the consequences here were WAY disproportionate even for the shittiest of parenting. no one expects âI didnât know how to talk to my sonâ to snowball into âmy son burned to death and then somehow came back as a villain and murdered thirty peopleâ
ohhhhhhhh fuck me
LITERALLY INCINERATED THE ENTIRE HILLSIDE. fuck. and I am so not ready for the scene of Enji finding the remains of his jawbone afterwards. at least we were spared anything super-graphic (for now at least)
I feel like the timeline here is off, btw?? wasnât Touyaâs death supposed to happen after Rei got hospitalized? this might be the first actual retcon of the entire flashback. although I think it makes more sense this way tbh
I do appreciate that ten years later Enji is finally reflecting on the fact that if heâd just given up his stupid obsession he could have stopped his family from crumbling apart. that probably sounds sarcastic as fuck, but itâs not. there are countless jerks out there who would have still managed to find a way to blame literally everyone and everything under the sun except for themselves. at least he finally figured out how to take responsibility, even if it came too late to stop his son from dying and being radicalized into a villain terrorist organization
and speaking of, it seems to me weâre missing a third and final part to this little tale of woe, and one which only Touya himself will be able to shed any light on. so weâll see how that goes
oh man seeing the other kids blaming themselves even though none of it was their fault hits hard af. Rei wasnât kidding when she said theyâd been bearing that burden of guilt far longer than Enji
SHOUTO I SWEAR TO GOD IF THE NEXT PANEL IS YOU APOLOGIZING FOR BEING BORN, I WILL... WELL IâLL BE VERY SAD, I GUESS. SO DONâT DO IT
oh good heâs just being quiet. good. it absolutely is not your fault lil bean. itâs not theirs either, but feeling guilty about things that arenât your fault is a time-honored shounen tradition
goddammit I braced myself for the angsty Shouto panel a page too early. gotta do it all over again now lol. okay here goes
;_;
well well well would you look at that
imagine that. talking things out with your child before they make a rash decision. looks like the Todorokisâ parenting skills are finally leveling up
OH MY GOD
holy shit. this is the most quintessential moment of father/son Todoroki bonding in the entire series. for me it even tops the ânice scarâ scene lol. Enji sobbing at the fact that he still has a chance to set things right. and Shouto offering his hand in what is actually the most mature and selfless gesture Iâve ever seen, and being all âweâll stop him togetherâ to his dad who he hates, but also doesnât really entirely hate anymore. and all of that is incredibly moving... BUT ALSO HE STILL REFUSES TO MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH HIM AND HE WOULD LIKE HIM TO STOP BEING SO FUCKING DRAMATIC ALREADY IF YOU DONâT MIND. âWHEN YOUâRE DONE CRYING...â fkjldsk
OH MY FUCKING LORD
(ETA: wouldnât be a Todoroki drama fest if there wasnât somebody listening in on the whole thing in secret just around the corner lmao.)
âyou think we should have waited somewhere else?â âyeah, probably.â âare you feeling a lot of secondhand embarrassment too?â âgod, you have no idea.â STFU HAWKS ITâS NOT EMBARASSING TO BE MOVED TO TEARS BY YOUR FAMILY ALL COMING TOGETHER IN YOUR DARKEST HOUR TO GIVE YOU HOPE THAT YOU PROBABLY DONâT DESERVE BUT ARE NONETHELESS INDESCRIBABLY GRATEFUL FOR

5 Tips for Finishing Your Novel
Aprilâs session of Camp NaNoWriMo is drawing to a close, and you might find yourself nearing the end of your novel. If you need some tips on writing and polishing the ending of your story, author Derek Murphy is here to share a few! Plus, you can check out the rest of our novel-finishing resources on our #NaNoFinMo page.Â
You won NaNoWriMo and have a 50k collection of scenes and sentences, but how do you clean it up and get it done? How do you make sure itâs finished, satisfying and enjoyable? Here are 5 powerful strategies for finishing your novel and some helpful writing tips that will push you past the finish line.
1. Give it a satisfying resolution.
In order to have a powerful story, your book should probably focus on a main characterâs change or transformation. Thereâs an inner war, a.k.a. the characterâs emotional healing, and an outer war: the conflict that forced the reckoning. If itâs a purely symbolic internal realization, you can mirror that with actual conflict in the real scene: the breaking of a dish, a fit of rage, a sudden ray of sunlight (or a storm⌠this should not be pleasant; Itâs a breaking point and spiritual death/rebirth).
You can clarify the moment of change by setting up an illustrative contrast, a before and after, that shows how those internal changes have resulted in real-world consequences or benefits. Each characterâs unique challenge will match their personal weakness or fear. The price for victory is the one thing they have so far refused to do, or something they cannot give up or bear to lose.
Make sure your protagonist has gone through a transformative struggle to arrive at deep insights, knowledge or awareness. Find a way to deepen the incidental scenes so that they become instrumental to a deeper purpose, leading towards an identity-shifting event.
The plot is what happens, and itâs important. But you can make it more dramatic and meaningful by making sure you demonstrate how hard it was and what it cost. It matters, it is remarkable, because it forced your protagonist to change.
Your conclusion might include:
Physical tension as allies perform a tug-of-war battle against resistance, that shows how difficult this struggle is, and how much force is required.
The consideration phase, as characters are tempted last minute or the price for victory is revealed: the sweet memories that give them awareness that this fight is worth the cost or risk (you need to show them making the choice, knowing what they will lose).
The final flashback, as the full backstory is revealed so we can see exactly why this conflict is so difficult or meaningful for the main character.
2. Add (unresolved) conflict.
Your story is made up of the events and scenes, where something happens. Each new event will push the characters further into the plot. Slow scenes where nothing is really happening can be red flags, so the first thing to focus on is increasing conflict, drama, suspense and intrigue. This is what creates urgency. The full reveal, demonstrating why THIS challenge is so difficult and powerful, should happen just before the final battle or resolution.
You want to make sure every scene, especially in your conclusion, has enough conflict. I recommend these three:
Outer Conflict (threats): Challenges or obstacles that prevent the character from achieving goals.
Inner Conflict (doubts): Moral struggles, decisions, guilt or shame, anger.
Friendly Fire (betrayal): Strong disagreements between allies or supporting characters.Â
You want to extend and deepen the potential conflict, without resolving it too easily. The biggest destroyer of conflict is conversation: when your characters just sit around and talk to each other. Most conflict involves a lack of information, and a desire for clarity. A lot of conflict is perceived or imagined.
The most important information needs to come last, and come at a great price. The information that has an emotional impact, and influences their actions and decisions, should be big reveals at dramatic peaks. A surprise or twist should be treated as an event: each scene is leading towards a change or new piece of information that provokes the protagonist to respond.
3. Fill plot holes with character motivation.
After youâve made sure that âwhat actually happensâ is intriguing (opening questions and raising tensions without resolving them) you can focus on making sure the plot holes are filled, and characters are properly motivated â these two things are usually adjacent.
You can find and fill plot holes by asking:
Why are the characters doing this?
Why does any of it matter?
Basically, readers need to respect the main characters enough to care what happens to them, so their choices and actions need to make sense within the given information. If thereâs a simpler, easier solution, readers will get stuck up on âwhy didnât they justâŚâ? To fix plot holes and gaps in logic or continuity, or make the story go where you need it to, you can add urgency, fix the mood of the scene (bigger stakes require bigger justifications), show characters in a weakened mental state, or raise concerns but have them dismissed, with an excuse or justification.
You need rational characters to make plausible choices that lead to dire consequences. You need show why they donât do something easier, or nothing at all, or why they face clear challenges, despite potential obstacles.
Theyâll also require a deeper motivation, for why theyâre willing to put themselves in identity-destroying conflict, rather than just giving up or running away. Why do they stay in THIS fight, when theyâve run from similar ones? If they werenât ready at the beginning, why are the ready now â what changed in them, as a result of your storyâs journey?
Your protagonist needs to have a strong, consistent internal compass, and it needs to be revealed through incidents that establish their character. This is who they are. Without this reliable core identity, we wonât be able to tell a story that forces them to change.Â
4. Let readers picture your story with detailed description.
In the final stages of revision, you can begin improving the description with specific details.
Itâs smart to start â or end â a chapter with a vivid, immediate scene. You want to leave readers with an image they can see in their minds, hopefully connected to the feeling you aim to evoke. You can close a chapter with a reference back to a motif or image, with a deeper or more reflective context; applying meaning to the metaphor. This will help readers feel engaged, be moved, and leave a lasting impact.
Vivid scenes are mostly a matter of detailed description, so add the specifics about the story environment. Be precise, not vague. Instead of âshe put a plate of tea and snacks on the tableâ you can write âshe gently placed an antique porcelain teapot on the table. I could smell it was Earl Grey from the scent of bergamot. The half-sleeve of Oreos and can of onion-flavored Pringles seemed incongruous with the fancy dishes, but I knew she was making an effort to welcome me.â
Focus on the sensations and feelings; but also zero-in on any potential sources of conflict or internal emotions or states of mind. In my example above, the host might be nervous or ashamed of her spread; or perhaps she has a degenerative brain disease and doesnât notice the incongruity. Tensions are unspoken, potential sources of negative feelings. They hover in the background of your description.
Readers will remember the pictures you put in their heads, not the words on the page.
Description should serve and be bound to the story, not distract from it.
It should be squeezed into and around the scene action, when the protagonist is using or exploring.
Show whatâs different, not whatâs the same.
Leave space for readers to fill in the gaps, but get them started in the right direction so they arenât surprised later.
Sidenote: be careful about your metaphors, analogies and similes. Each one will put a picture into readersâ minds, and it can quickly get overcrowded with imagery. Youâre asking them to ignore your real scene and think of something else. Use them to confirm and amplify the scene you have, and limit distractions.
5. Prepare to publish.
Typos are bad, but perfectionism will ruin you. This section is about editing and proofreading, but I donât have time for all that, and you donât either. The real problem with a story is rarely the number of typos. A very clean book isnât better if people stop reading.
You can solve a lot of common writing problems, with my big list of 25 common writing mistakes, and self-edit your manuscript to make it as good as possible. After that, a copyeditor or proofreader isnât always the best investment (and it can also be the biggest publishing cost).
Instead, use an editing software (I like Grammarly) to root out obvious mistakes, but donât dwell on the small stuff like perfecting every word or rearranging the commas. Spending a very long time wrestling a poorly-written manuscript in shape is less effective than getting something (actually) done to the point where youâre comfortable sharing it.
This may be difficult at first, but you canât learn and improve without genuine reader feedback (from people who arenât your mom or best friend; nor the short-sighted opinions of a self-proclaimed literature enthusiast). You need to find readers who enjoy your particular genre, and the sooner you find them, the more valuable feedback you can get.
Shorten the feedback loop: Get over the fear and focus on learning by getting feedback early and often. However, this doesnât just mean joining a writerâs club: writers are brutal and might focus on trivial things. The safest bet is to make it public, on Wattpad at least. Or get a cheap cover and throw it up on Kindle, Draft2Digital or even your own blog.
Making it public is scary and vulnerable, but itâs better than letting the fear of messing up keep you from the brutal, necessary experience of allowing readers to tell you what they liked and disliked about your writing. Will some people be critical? Yes! But guess what, youâll get negative reviews even if youâre a brilliant, famous writer. Those are inevitable. And the first negative reviews may teach you more about writing than 10 years attempting to self-edit, afraid of putting your book out into the world.
PS. You can use resources, like my 24-chapter plot outline, as a way to spot story gaps in your manuscript and improve the structure (especially if your book suffers from a âsoggy middle.)

Do you have any thoughts on Marty and his self esteem issues? In most of the trilogy, I feel like Marty ranges from experience a lot of insecurity at best, to like a considerable amount of self loathing at worst, (like pls Marty, Doc getting struck by lighting was not your fault? Youâre not Thor?) . And thereâs the whole chicken thing, so I was curious if you had any thoughts on where it stems from, how itâs affected him etc etc? Okay lmao thatâs it, have a great day !!
Hello! Do I have thoughts?? Yes. I do.
So, one of the things I like so much about Marty as a character is that...he's kind of an enigma of sorts? Like. Here's this kid who skateboards, rocks that denim jacket and the cool sunglasses, plays guitar, has a pretty girlfriend, etc. You take all of that, and it should reflect a really confident, popular person. I mean, with all the stereotypical "cool guy" attributes considered, Marty should have Ferris Bueller-level confidence and charm. He should be strutting around, smooth-talking everyone, laughing in the face of danger, and possessing unshakeable self-esteem. But he does/has none of those things because, as we all know, Marty is A Mess (affectionate). And yeah, a lot of it seems to stem from self-esteem issues, which we do see sprinkled throughout the trilogy. Where's it all coming from? Well, a lot of places, most likely...
⢠FAMILY: Probably the biggest factor. Though I'm sure George and Lorraine were sincerely in love for a while at the beginning of their relationship/marriage, I think it's fair to assume that any real spark between them had pretty much fizzled out by the time Marty came along or when he was a young kid. Take a loveless relationship between a meek, subservient man and a woman who drinks away her feelings, factor in a 17-year-old boy who's probably never had any real semblance of parental stability in his house, and it's highly likely that kid is going to have some issues. It's really difficult to believe in yourself & feel secure when the norm is having parents who are wrapped up in their own worlds/rarely interact with each other, seeing your father get emotionally (& physically!) pushed around by his supervisor, and watching your mom cling to alcohol and sink into depression.
⢠Plus, there are the separate relationships George and Lorraine have with Marty. Granted, we don't see much of it, but what we see at dinner is probably a good example of a typical interaction. George is quick to steer Marty away from any situation where he may face rejection or hardship. And yeah, he may think he's protecting his son, but this strategy is actually pretty harmful. I can imagine that any time Marty is feeling nervous or let down, and goes to his father seeking encouragement, he's only left with the impression that it's better not to take any risks at all because he might fail anyway. Instead of being built up, any potential self-worth is being chipped away at by George.
And as far as Lorraine is concerned, I get the impression that she's (more often than not) critical and judgemental of Marty. She's not shy about airing her strong dislike for Jennifer, during which Marty stays completely silent and unresponsive. Perhaps Marty's general default around his mom is silence, due to him having learned a long while back that he's better off keeping his mouth shut. I can see Lorraine lecturing Marty often, picking apart every little flaw she may see in him (friends, grades, attitude, etc.), especially when she's had too many drinks and especially when you consider that Marty is probably her most "difficult" child. Sad as it may sound, I can't picture Marty walking away from very many interactions with his mother feeling good about himself.
⢠GENERAL ANXIETY/NEURODIVERGENCY: Marty is an easily flustered, anxious guy. And whether that stems from his home environment or genetics (I mean, look at George), I don't know. But he definitely seems to be a sort of nervous, hesitant kid, particularly in the first movie. I also, like most of the fandom, headcanon Marty as having ADHD. And like...if that's the case for him, it certainly isn't helping at all with the self-esteem stuff. He's written off as a slacker at school, told he'll never amount to anything, and probably struggles a lot to keep up in his classes and survive in an environment that almost definitely doesn't offer any form of support or accommodations. That would be a big blow to his self-worth as well.
People with ADHD also tend to be very critical of themselves, worry about what others think of them, and have a hard time with rejection. Hence, the one rejection at the audition followed by, I'm just a big, stupid failure and I'll never ever be good enough. My world is crumbling, I should just give up everything forever =(((
(What do you mean those weren't his exact words??)
⢠BONUS: Marty might also face a decent amount of social isolation/teasing due to his friendship with Doc, which would take a toll on confidence too. Also, I just...don't think that Marty has many friends??
When you take all the above factors, Marty's self-esteem issues make a lot of sense and, if not for Doc, would probably run a lot deeper than what we see in the trilogy. ALSO!
⢠Marty blaming himself for Doc getting hit by lightning in the DeLorean: I've seen a few people comment on this and how they think it's ridiculous that Marty felt guilty but...it's always made a lot of sense to me, actually. No, Marty didn't cause the lightning, but he did set off the chain of events that led to Doc being there at that moment. If he'd had the inner strength/self-control to walk away from Biff outside of the dance, he could have just joined Doc on the roof with the almanac and they'd have been on their merry way. And even if Biff had continued to challenge him, or even followed him, Marty likely could have created a diversion or gotten an adult at the dance to help and still made it up to the roof before the worst of the storm hit. But because he couldn't stand being called a chicken, he ended up taking a door to the face, had the book stolen back, and had to go on that little side adventure to retrieve it, which led to Doc needing to save him. So yeah, I'm actually team Marty on this one. His choice did lead to Doc being catapulted into the Old West, lol. I'd have been consumed with guilt too.
⢠The Chicken Thing: I'm not going to go into too much detail (HA!) because this is already ridiculously long, but I will say that I don't go by the more popular headcanon that says Marty's sudden inability to handle being challenged is due to the updated timeline taking effect and "altering" him. Essentially, that Marty growing up with a confident, successful father made him have higher expectations put on him, and so he was always striving to prove he could live up to them.
I actually don't think any ripples from the new timeline catch up to Marty yet during the course of the trilogy. (I tend to headcanon that as happening gradually in the coming weeks and months after he gets home). Instead, I think that Marty's inclination towards becoming feral at the words "chicken", "yellow", etc. is because of his life in his original timeline. Growing up with a jellyfish for a father, it makes sense that Marty would want to distance himself as much as possible from being associated with weakness. He'd want to prove himself that much more because everyone around him would probably think he's just like his cowardly old man.
And though I know it's not really possible (because they weren't planning on a 2nd or 3rd movie), I think a case can be made that there's a glimpse of the "chicken thing" in the first movie, in the scene of Marty and Lorraine in the car at the dance. I mean, he gets all upset and tells her not to drink, but then she calls him a square, uses the classic peer-pressure tactic of, everyone's doing it, and he caves instantly and takes a swig. Could be because he doesn't want to be thought of as a square, or could be because he's desperate to calm his nerves a bit. Either way, Marty doesn't seem to fare too well when challenged or put under pressure, so I lump this scene in as a "chicken" moment.
I...need to stop. I set out to write a quick response to this. Like, a paragraph or two. But this question activated Hyperfocus Mode, and I blinked and now it's 2 hours after I started and I have AN ESSAY.
Thanks for the ask! *goes to lie down*

I have a prompt for you if you can. Not sure if you watch Legacies, thereâs an episode where Lizzie makes a wish to a Jinn that Hope is never born. In this alternate universe, Lizzie won the Merge, Klaus flipped his switch 2 years ago in grief and started a war with the humans leading to Triad publicly hunting all supernaturals. Enemy #1 is Klaus and his vampire wife Caroline Mikaelson. Iâd like to see a Klaroline fic of this AU please.
Prompt part 2. I have some personal thoughts on this alternative universe but itS totally up to you if you go with them or if you come up with your own. No Hope means no Hayley, means no Elijah dying. So why was Klaus grieving? No Hope means back in TVD S4 the witches had no way of luring him to NO so he stayed in MF eventually wearing Caroline down into a relationship. Josie and Lizzie were like his daughters and when they merged he and Caroline both flipped the switch in grief of Josie.
 Tears Will Never Dry (angsty)
âI failed them.â Her voice was so small and defeated. Curled up as she was in the armchair, Caroline looked blankly out the window. Though she had a perfect view of Bonnie talking through some witchy herbs with a despondent Lizzie out in the courtyard, her eyes didnât seem to register. It was like she wasnât even there.
Klaus, who once proudly professed he had no heart, felt something break inside him for he knew nothing could truly comfort her. He had failed her. So he offered what little he could, what he held onto when she was so far away. âYou love them so completely, you could never fail them,â he vowed, and heâd never meant something so much. It took all his strength not to pull her into his arms, to close the distance she wrapped around herself so tightly. âYou will help Lizzie through this, andââ The lump in his throat made it hard to speak, not that he could bring himself to say the name she cried in her sleep. ââyou loved her to the end.â
Tears trickled down her crumpled face. âItâs not supposed to happen that way,â she croaked. âMom and Dad loved me to the end, too. Their ends. Now, I have to live with her being gone. Forever.â
It used to be a promise between them, sweet and tempting; on her tongue, the word sounded sour. Helpless and desperate, Klaus kneeled  at her feet. He pressed his mouth to her knee, hands wrapped around her legs like a lifeline. âTell me what I can do. Please, sweetheart. Let me help.â
Blinking down at him, she let her fingers card through his hair. Her smile was sad, apologetic. âIt just hurts so much.â
And he knew it was too late.
The club was a dangerous idea. They were meant to be in hiding, and it defied sense to flaunt their return to New Orleans in a favorite haunt. But the girls were having fun, and Klaus was loathe to break up the party with sense.
He was tucked into the quietest corner of the VIP lounge, high above the din. Lizzie and Caroline, meanwhile, danced in the crush of the crowd, the pounding beat far too much for even a vampireâs ears. They laughed as they bumped into each other, and a smile curled his lips. It was good to be home.
Their little family was still grieving Josieâs loss after two years, each in their own way. Caroline preferred enjoying the lighter side of life, aided by a lack of human sensibilities. Lizzie alternated between reveling in her magic and loathing it for the too dear cost, just as she hated her mother for flipping the switch and loved having her as more of a friend. Klaus...
Klaus was just trying to keep the game interesting.
âCareful, friend,â Marcel warned, offering him a fresh drink as he dropped into the next chair. âYour humanity is showing.â
âSheâs not paying me any mind, we can speak freely.â He turned to his old friend, a son that was lost and found, then lost and found again. How he wished he could grant such a miracle to Caroline. âTell me about Triad.â
Clenching his glass, Marcel looked grim. âMy nightwalkers keep disappearing, and even the ones with the GIft,â he murmured with laden meaning, since vampires had learned to hoard the secret of lapis lazuli and the safety it provided, âhave mentioned being followed. Davina hasnât risen far in the ranks of the organization yet, but she thinks a big move is in the works.â
He grit his teeth. âAnd?â
âThe âvampire wifeâ is whispered around the place. Often.â
It was a fight to loosen the tension in his body, but a necessary one. He raised a toast to Caroline, who tried to coax him out to the dance floor. He shook his head, charming enough so as not to rouse her suspicion. âI assume a kidnapping then.â
âAt the least,â Marcel agreed. âWhether they want information from her or to use her against you, torture is to be expected. The switch might be a benefit to her if it comes to thatââ
"It won't." His tone was final, even as he held his smirk. The ladies were too busy laughing off those bold men trying to dance with them to read him from afar. "She's been through enough."
Noticeably quiet, Marcel just sipped his drink.
âWhat, Marcellus?â Klaus bit out.
With a measured glance toward him, he shrugged. âThe switch... Sheâs not really going through anything, and she hasnât for years now. And thinking youâve flipped yours, too? Youâve created a comfortable little world for her to avoid the pain, maintaining it to keep her safe without her knowing. What happens when the illusion shatters?â
He gave a careless flip of his hand. âShe canât turn it off twice.â
âIf you say so.â
It wasnât a new argument to Klaus, not when Stefan, Bonnie, Elijah â even Rebekah â had implored him to rethink his grand strategy for Caroline to party away the worst of her pain. At the very least, he could be honest about his own, relatively intact humanity. Instead, he let her enjoy the lighter side of life without tempting a worse outcome should she feel the need to punish him for trying to fix her. After all, sheâd done much the same when her mother died.
The subterfuge was messy but necessary, especially with credible threats against her in this war the humans insist upon waging. His ear was attuned to the array of heartbeats throughout the club, the loud music not enough to dull his hybrid senses. Vampires had a slow, dull throb when compared to the hearty pound of a werewolf, not that theyâd find themselves in the Abattoir without some pressing business that was sure to involve him. Same with the witches, and only Lizzieâs let out the fast-paced thrum of both full blood and magic.
Humans, though, they seemed to be threading in from the edges of the crowd â and aiming for the blondes at the center. Feeling the world slow around him, Klaus launched himself down from the balcony, mindless to the vampires hurrying to get everyone out of his way. None of them caught the true danger, however, until the strobe light caught on the wooden stakes being pulled from jackets.
Klaus managed to snap three necks before they got close, but Caroline was too busy blocking access to Lizzie to notice the woman stretching a strong arm toward her. Feeling like he was underwater, he watched as Lizzieâs fear overwhelmed her, and the hand grasped around her motherâs wrist glowed red. Pain seemed to lance through Caroline, and she lost her focus to fend off the attack she still hadnât seen coming.
The familiar scent of her blood filled the air, and all Klaus could see was red.
Later, he would confirm that the scratch down Carolineâs back healed perfectly, that sheâd survived the bold offensive he hadnât stopped. Even later than that, he would acknowledge his plan had been far from perfect, without even the veneer of success to defend it when her humanity was eventually restored.
But in the moment, the thought of losing her to his own carelessness was too much. Clearly, holding onto his humanity wasnât working the way heâd envisioned; in fact, his rage at the sight of a stake piercing her skin felt like a liability. He processed this in the span of a second, and by the time the humanâs bloody head hit the dance floor, his decision had been made.
The world already saw him as a ruthless monster. He might as well give it to them, and heâd make them bleed for daring to harm her. He didnât need his humanity for that.
With his fangs bared and blood dripping from his hand, he certainly looked the part. When Caroline met his eyes, however, something must have alerted her to the change. Having torn the stake from her back and moved Lizzie to the safe space between them, her head tilted to the side as she appraised him with a new appreciation. She gave a sharp grin of joy and arousal, her tongue slipping from beneath her fangs to wet the corner of her lips. âItâs about time.â

â¨not all kids with ADHD do poorly at schoolâ¨
And hereâs why that misconception is harmful:
Many people think that underperforming at school is the biggest symptom and consequence of adhd. While it is an important part and many kids with adhd do struggle at school, there are some people who have adhd but perform well at school.
Truth is, ADHD looks different for every person, and we all display symptoms in a different manner. I may have some symptoms that someone else doesnât and they may have some symptoms that I donât. That doesnât mean they have âmoreâ adhd or that they donât have adhd. Thinking that thereâs one universal symptom or way that adhd should look like only leads to having less people diagnosed, thus, less people are helped with strategies to overcome it. This can only harm and make the person think that theyâre imagining it, that thereâs something wrong with them, and having other people mock them or not believing them.
Hereâs my story:
My little brother got diagnosed with adhd at a very early stage because he had a lot of trouble at school. All his teachers suggested to my parents that they should check him, so they did. When they got his diagnosis confirming that he had it, they immediately got him help. He went to learning therapy everyday, he had a psychologist he saw twice a week, he had a neurologist who gave him proper prescription, schools adapted to his needs, and though he struggled, he had all the tools available to him so he could get better. Now as an adult heâs doing great because heâs had all the help possible. He just started college, and things are going really well for him.
Then thereâs me. Iâve always struggled with anxiety, depression, eating disorders and a bunch of other things, but above it all, Iâve always been a straight A student. All my life I displayed a lot of the symptoms of adhd, but since I always did well at school, it was overlooked by my parents and those around me. Iâve had hyperfixations ever since I can remember, causing me to lose track of reality. I become absolutely obsessed with something then lose interest and move on. This also causes me to start really good projects but never finish them. I bite my nails a lot, to the point where my fingers bleed, and as much as Iâve tried to get rid of the habit, I canât, because itâs something I canât control. When people talk to me, i often donât catch what theyâre saying because my mind will wander a lot, so I come across as rude. I daydream a lot and zone out, making people think Iâm lazy or that I donât care. I forget so many tasks and things Iâm supposed to do, and so many people get mad at me. These are just some of the few symptoms I experience day to day. All of them were always brushed off as a part of childhood, but as an adult, theyâre more evident and itâs way harder to deal with them.
While my brotherâs adhd affected his academic life, mine affects my personal life, and because it was less evident, I never got proper help. Because of this, I donât really have the right tools to help me deal with it, and itâs become a much bigger problem than his. Even yesterday, while talking to my mom, she told me that one of her biggest regrets is not getting me diagnosed and helped when I was a child, because now she sees how much I struggle. Iâm not the only person who has gone through this, and all I can say is, if you have kids, keep your eyes open for symptoms and believe them if they tell you theyâre struggling (I did tell my parents a ton of times I needed help but they never believed me because I was âfunctionalâ).
Anyway Iâm not a psychologist or a professional, iâm just someone whoâs lived through the struggle and this is all based on my experience and personal opinion.

Home is where our story begins
Summary:
Mobius and Loki will finally move in together, will the cohabitation be as natural as the rest of their story?
Notes:
Still not having the real name of Hunter B-15 and the story taking place post canon, I found it odd to keep calling it that. But I didn't want to invent a name for hher, so I chose HB, if Marvel were to give him a name later, I would change it here of course.

"So, soon the big day? I hope you're happy about it, even if it's new for you."
Mobius sipped his Josta, wondering what the best answer was. Yes seemed too restrictive, but it wasn't as if he wanted to go into details about his new living arrangements with Loki. Yes, he was happy to move in with Loki, of course, but...
"Mobius?"
"I'm... cautiously optimistic. You know me."
HB nodded. "For you, it's practically effusive." Chuckling, she took another pretzel. "I'm happy for you and Loki." Her smile faded briefly, "If our variant condition has taught me anything, it's to take happiness where it lies. I'm glad you decided to give your relationship with Loki a chance."
"There was nothing to decide because everything happens naturally between us," Mobius mumbled.
HB frowned. "Hm?"
Mobius cleared his throat. "It's nothing. I've talked too much."
"Talked too much?" HB laughed. "When it comes to explaining the logic of a mission strategy that sounds crazy, yes you could be accused of talking too much, but when it comes to your personal life... but I understand what you mean and to me who has been watching you a bit since the beginning of this relationship, it is clear that things are natural between you. Although I am curious about one thing."
"Which one?" Mobius prepared himself.
"How will you manage living together, as you both have your single habits, not to mention your lifestyles which were rather... different".
This question kept going round and round in Mobius' head. He was ready to compromise, but he wasn't going to change who he was either. With the personalities they both had, it might seem insurmountable from the outside, but Mobius had a deep conviction that it could work.
"I guess we'll see as we go along," he replied confidently.
"You know where to find me if you need to talk."
The friendship he had formed with HB, was one of the surprises that had come with Loki's arrival in his life.
Before they were just colleagues who worked well together and had the same dedication to the TVA and now having shared the same experience of losing everything, a real friendship was born.
"Thank you. But let's stop talking about me, how's it going with the new recruits and training?"
The TVA, purged of old influences, had returned to its primary function: to monitor realities across the multiverse and attempt to reduce temporal interference as much as possible. Mobius was the leader. Loki, Hunter B-15, now HB and other agents formed the core team.
They had completely restructured the organization, recruitment and training.
"Well, there are several young recruits who are promising, and I must say Mobius, that Loki is not only a very good teacher but also very well liked."Loki had volunteered on his own to handle the training of the newbies on the field.
Mobius, however, was not surprised at his success. As he had told LOki in the early days, he could be anyone he wanted.
Once HB left, the afternoon passed without surprise for Mobius, who was eager to get home. He found it hard to concentrate, looking forward to the changes that were coming.
**********
Loki was waiting in Mobius' living room when Mobius returned home.
"Mobius!" he exclaimed happily as he stood up and walked over to Mobius to kiss him. Mobius thought he wouldn't mind this kind of action if it became part of their routine in the future.
As is often the case when they haven't seen each other in a while, things heated up quickly between them and they were both panting when they parted.
"How was your day? HB told me she told you about my work? Is everything okay?"
That, too, was something nice -even if he found it annoying at first, this talkie-talkie thing, this incessant stream of words from Loki. He had realized that Loki's questions were always sincere, his lover expected answers and never asked them out of politeness.
"A lot of paperwork as you can imagine, I miss working in the field, fortunately once this is over I will be able to accompany you again and see the excellent work you provide with my eyes, if I believe what HB told me", Mobius said quietly while pushing aside a strand of Loki's hair that was falling on his forehead. "What about you? How was your lunch with Casey?"
Another unexpected relationship, for who knew Loki. He had formed a bond with Casey, an ordinary administrative employee. Loki had told Mobius that it was nice to have a friend whose reactions he didn't have to weigh, because Casey was spontaneous and naturally trusting.
"Fun. He's excited for us, well for me because I'm going to live with the great Mobius." Loki chuckled before continuing, "I expected the opposite, but you're his idol, I'm just the god of mischief who taught him what a fish was."
Mobius raised an eyebrow. "Really?"
"Yes, I swear." Loki smiled. "He even offered to help us move our stuff in once the apartment was ready."
Mobius shook his head. "He's really supportive."
"Absolutely," Loki smiled, "He always surprises me with his candor."
Loki pulled Mobius to the couch and sat him down. Then he lay down in his favorite position, with his head on Mobius' lap. Mobius, as always, couldn't resist the impulse to put his hand on Loki's silky black hair and began to stroke it gently. In response, Loki made a sound that closely resembled a purr.
**********
Turning his head to Mobius, Loki asked, "Are you really happy that we live together?"
"Of course Loki," Mobius murmured as he ran his hands through Loki's hair, enjoying sliding the strands between his fingers. "I am, but you know it won't necessarily be easy right?"
"Hmm." Loki nodded and smiled sheepishly. "I know I'm not easy to deal with."
"Hey Sweetheart! That's not it at all." Mobius protested. "I just think we're from two different worlds and it's going to take a little adjustment and patience."
Loki nodded.
"Besides, we're going to be together a lot. Between work and home," Mobius said.
"Yeah." Loki looked up and smiled at Mobius. "This is going to be great!"
"We'll see," Mobius said, finally realizing that it wasn't he who was afraid of being disappointed, but that he was afraid of disappointing Loki.
After a few moments of silence, he decided to put his fears aside and enjoy the moment.
"Now, have you thought about what you want for dinner?"
"No." Loki pressed himself against Mobius, "But I know what I want for dessert."
"What a coincidence," Mobius muttered as he slipped his hand under Loki's shirt, "I think we both have the same idea.
These kinds of little moments between them, these little habits, made Mobius think that maybe he didn't need to be anxious about their future shared life.
**********
A few days later, Mobius was up to his neck in paperwork and couldn't take it anymore. He threw his pen away and leaned back on his chair.
"Mobius?"
"I'm here."
When Loki entered and saw the state Mobius was in, he locked the door behind him. He walked up behind Mobius, put his arms around his neck and kissed the top of his head. Mobius leaned back even more and closed his eyes.
"It's going to be hard to keep working if you make a habit of doing this," he whispered.
Loki's hands slid over Mobius' shoulders and he began a firm massage. "How about this?"
Mobius sighed, "It's not good for concentration either... " as Loki's skilled fingers had encountered a particularly knotted muscle.
"Oh, is that so?" Loki rhythmically pressed his thumbs into the back of Mobius' neck and it felt so good that Mobius moaned, "It doesn't seem to bother you that much."
"You and your distracting hands mustn't be around too often," Mobius said, "or I'll never be able to work properly, a massage like this, on the other hand, is... effective. I didn't know you knew how to give massages." Mobius was always happy to learn new things about Loki.
At Loki's silence, Mobius turned his head and was surprised by the sad expression on his face.
"Loki?"
"Um... this is something my mom used to do for me and my brother..."
"Oh Loki... I'm sorry." Mobius reached for the hand that had remained on his shoulder and squeezed it.
"I miss her..."
"I know, sweetheart, believe me, I know." replied Mobius gently.
After a moment of silence, Loki kissed Mobius' head again, "Sorry, I didn't mean to distract you. It's just so nice and strange to have you just a few steps away from me all the time."
"Why strange?" Mobius turned in his chair to look at him.
Loki shrugged, "I usually store all the things I want to tell you later in my memory, but now that we're in our new home, and we both work together a lot, I feel like I have access to you all the time and it's..."
"Different."
"Yeah. And tempting. And distracting." Loki licked his lips. "I want to see you all the time, not just talk to you, if you know what I mean..."
"Yes, I know exactly what you mean" Mobius cleared his throat, fighting the mental images that Loki's words evoked. "However, I think we're going to have to set some rules, no matter how nice it is, we're both still at work."
Loki nodded, "Yes, we really should, if only for my sanity." He bit his lower lip, and when Mobius saw him do it, he thought that it wasn't just for Loki's sanity that some rules had to be set.
"Maybe later, if you want Mobius? Or tomorrow?"
"Why tomorrow?" Mobius raised an eyebrow. "Why not now?"
Loki smiled "Because I'm excited now, and you're tired of paperwork and I think you need a good distraction."
Mobius rolled his eyes "You're insatiable."
Loki pretended to walk away, saying, "I can leave, I wouldn't want to distract you from your duty..."
Mobius grabbed him and pulled him against him. "You think you can light a flame and not blow it out?!"
"And what about rules and work?" asked Loki, raising an eyebrow.
"That can wait until tomorrow." replied Mobius, pulling Loki's head to his and silencing him in the most effective way he knew how.
**********
For some time, Mobius had been catching scrutinizing glances from the recruits, some even giggling after running into him.
"I feel like they're staring at me," Mobius said one night as he sat on the couch with Loki in their usual position.
"You can't blame them for being curious. After all, the God of mischief and the famous Agent Mobius, we're legends. And also... um... I may have been showing off a bit for a moment or two about your... prowess. Nothing graphic, just little details," he hastened to add when Mobius' mouth opened.
"Little details," Mobius repeated.
"Oh, but nothing, just that I'm satisfied, that's all."
Hiding his face in his hands, Mobius groaned, "Loki, tell me you didn't discuss our sex life in front of your students!".
"Uh... you want me to lie?"
"Loki!"
"Mobius, people think I'm not mature enough for you. That you're too serious and I'm not enough, that you have more integrity and I don't. Personally, I don't care what other people think. But I want people to know that you are as good to me as I am to you."
"And that requires you to tell them the intimate details of our sex lives..." Mobius mumbled.
"No, no, you don't understand," Loki said, clearly struggling to express himself. "I tell them little things that humanize us. That you like my cooking, that you like jet skiing, that I think you're sexy in the morning when you wake up, nothing too intimate..."
"Only in the morning when you wake up?!"
Count on Mobius to have kept only this part of Loki's answer.
"Even sexier than usual."
"Aaaah, that's the reason for these morning quickies," Mobius replied.
"You don't like it?"
"That's not the point, Loki."
"I know what the point is. The point is, I just want people to know the real you. Let them see you the way I see you."
"And for that, you have to tell them we screw every morning?"
"It was just one time, and it was Casey's fault. He said he didn't picture you as a sex beast."
"It gets better and better."
"Mobiuuuuus. I didn't say anything more than what I just told you, I promised! Now they know why we're perfect together."
"Because I give you satisfying orgasms when I'm barely awake."
"Because you're brilliant, and caring, and yes, incredibly sexy."
Lifting Mobius' hand to his lips, Loki kissed his fingertips and whispered, "And because I love you."
Just like that, Mobius' irritation disappeared. He took Loki's face in his hands and ran his thumb over his lower lip. "And I feel the same way. But Loki, I also wish you wouldn't talk too much about our intimacy, even with your closest friends."
Loki replied with his most mischievous smile, "You think I want to tell them how perfectly your lips fit my mmph."
Mobius had just closed Loki's mouth with a kiss and after that, Loki wasn't articulate enough to list Mobius' bedroom qualities and Mobius unapologetically left his book aside.
After all, it was important that he lived up to his reputation.
**********
"You're looking fine, Mobius. I guess everything is okay with you and Loki? I feel like the cohabitation is going great," HB said as she walked into his office.
Nodding his head, Mobius couldn't help but smirk, "Everything is going very smoothly, yes."
"Clearly." HB smiled. "You look... satisfied."
Mobius' eyes narrowed.
"However, given the bags under your eyes, may I recommend that you rest tonight?"
Mobius widened his smile. "I'm sure I'll rest... someday, even if it's not tonight. As I told you before, Loki can be... enthusiastic, and we're enjoying a bit of a second honeymoon right now."
Chuckling, HB shook his head. "And like I said, enjoy the moment. Even the enthusiasm of youth is wearing off."
"Indeed, it is." He paused before continuing, "Do you need anything?"
"Do I need a reason to visit a friend?" asks HB.
"No, of course not. I even enjoy our little early week dates. You know I like talking with you. After all, you and I have pretty much the same background. We've done well."
HB nodded, "Yes. You're right, but I admit I also stopped by because I need you to validate the latest new recruit evaluations."
Mobius chuckled, "I'll look at those afterwards, and send them to you when I'm done."
"Take your time, you can return them to me next week.
They chatted about various things, then HB got up to leave.
"I'm going to start reading these evaluations, unless my insatiable partner decides to show up...I'd hate to disappoint him you know...."
HB shook his head. "Lovely. And since I'll see you Monday to pick them up, You can give me all the details then. Don't let him tire you out too much!"
"That' s not up to me..." Mobius said, and smiling he pulled the first evaluation toward him. He raised his head and looked at the door, aware of a presence in the room.
Loki, standing in the doorway, was grinning from ear to ear.
"Aha! So it's not just me. You do it too!"
Mobius raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"
Reaching up to him, Loki touched Mobius' chest with his index finger.
"You also tell your friends intimate details about our relationship!"
"I certainly don't."
"Oh, I think you do. I just heard HB teasing you about my 'youthful enthusiasm' and telling you to rest because you look tired." Loki's eyes danced with joy.
"I-" Mobius sighed, "Okay, I guess I told her a couple of things about our life together - Hmph!"
Loki threw his arms around Mobius and kissed him deeply. Mobius, surprised at first, put his hand on his cheek, answered the kiss with the same passion, carding his fingers in Loki's hair. Once things calmed down, they parted, breathless.
"What was that for?" asked Mobius, tucking a strand of hair behind Loki's ear in a gesture so familiar now.
"You're talking about me to people, bragging about me." Loki's eyes glowed. "That means you're proud to be with me."
Mobius blinked. "Of course I am. How can you doubt it?"
Loki pressed another kiss to Mobius' mouth. "You can be quite a hard man to read sometimes."
"Not at all," Mobius whispered, as he gently patted Loki's butt. "I'm an open book."
"You are..." laughing, Loki rolled his eyes. "You're not at all." His expression softened as he looked Mobius in the eye. "But I think I can read you."
"You're the only one who can do it," Mobius acknowledged softly.
He wondered how long it would take Loki to see in his eyes the infinite love he had for him, and if he would be able to surprise him with the ring he had in his pocket.

Well I promised you a post about my bi Geoffrey Martewall headcanons so here it is guys <3
SoâŚas I previously mentioned in a tag under one of @agapantoblu's posts, I've been half-seriously headcanoning Geoffrey Martewall a.k.a. the best character in the Hypervesum series as a clueless bisexual for... well, for some time. Let's say a year and a half. I've never bothered actually sharing these headcanons online because I didn't really have a clear idea for an actual argument in support of this claim of mine, but now Iâm finally ready to put the all the reasons why I get extra-strong bisexual vibes from Geoffrey Martewall into words. BewareâŚitâs a lot of words :ââ)
Exhibit A: Geoffrey and women
1.1. Geoffreyâs taste in women is just too good
Listen. LISTEN. Our manâs taste in women is IMPECCABLE: he could, as Brianna said herself, have chosen to take any young noble maiden as his wife, but he decided to go for a woman that 1) is a couple years older than him 2) is not noble at all and, you know, used to be just a poor paesant before coming to Châtel-Argent 3) already has a son who was fathered by a French knight to whom she was never married and that she had to raise as a teen single mom 4) at the time of their first meeting had a crush on his current worst enemy. LISTEN!!!!!!!! Geoffreyâs taste in women is suspiciously good, way too good, in fact, to be that of a medieval straight guy. I meanâŚIan, a man who comes from the 21st century, fell for the textbook angelic maiden, while Geoffrey literally did not even bother looking around for some young blushing bride and just decided that the hot milf who threatened him with a pitchfork in book 2 was his first and best choice. What an Absolute Fucking King. This choice of his is, in my opinion, very telling of the kind of view he has of romance and women in general.
Which brings me to the next point, namely:
1.2. Geoffrey appears to have an attitude towards women and a view of womanhood that are significantly more modern than those of an average knight of his time
Is it just me or is Geoffrey actually the one with the mostâŚÂ modern mindset out of all the knights starring in the saga? There are a couple of specific scenes that kind of make me think of him as an outlier among his peers, and although some of those are definitely there for the purpose of showing us that Martewall is indeed a rather peculiar knight, others contribute to creating the picture of a character that is almost⌠out of place in the 13th century?Â
Allow me to expand a bit further on the âGeoffrey and womenâ topic: we saw how chivalrous and respectful Geoffrey was towards an unconscious and injured Brianna. First he made sure her son was comfortable with him warming her up using his own body, and reassured him he meant no disrespect by removing her clothes; then, he proceeded to strip her in the most methodical and detached way possible, which let us know Geoffrey respects a womanâs body and modesty the way any proper, courteous medieval man would. But then thereâs another, and in my opinion far more interesting, instance in which Geoffrey is seen interacting with a woman: Iâm talking about his brief conversation with Blanche of Castile in book 3. Here we see 1) how Geoffrey treats women he is not attracted to (ânot attracted toâ as in: women he has no interest in romancing), and 2) to what degree he actually respects female authority.Â
Our first introduction to Blanche is the scene in which Guillaume, Ian and Henri de Bar are talking about her right before the audience in Paris, during which we learn that the vast majority of noblemen do not take her opinions seriously and do not appreciate seeing her talk during political debates. Even Henri de Bar, although he does not mean to be insolent, raises an eyebrow at the thought of a woman participating in conversations that concern military strategy, while Guillaume seems almost amused at Ianâs heartfelt defence of her speeches. Which is why Geoffreyâs brief interaction with her stands out so much: when she starts talking about the war in England with him, he carefully listens to her as if she were just another male superior officer: he does not appear even slightly surprised by her competence, he does not try to dumb down the topic of discussion, he listens carefully to what she is saying, he offers his opinion only when she asks for it and he answers her questions in the most straightforward way possible. At no point during the conversation does he ever attempt to pull the condescending âwith all due respect, madameâŚâ to correct or contradict her statements. He is not in courteous knight mode, he is in soldier mode, and is unfazed by the fact that the one he is discussing logistics and war strategy with is a delicate looking princess. Once again, the author is fleshing out Geoffreyâs character by having the protagonist and point of view character draw a direct comparison between him and other men. Martewall does not simply respect women as in âoh Iâm a proper knight and I use my blade to protect defenceless maidensâ, he actually, genuinely respects women.Â
Which in my opinion is such an interesting facet of his values and personality: in the second half of book 2, Ian notices how thoroughly Harald Martewall managed to drill the code of chivalry into his sonâs head, and remarks on the fact that the Martewalls are all perfect examples of the True Old School Knights. Both Harald and Geoffrey are the embodiment of the honourable, unyielding, upright warrior trope, and they perfectly fit the image we modern people conjure in our minds when we think of a knight of the Middle Ages. This specific aspect of Geoffreyâs set of values gives his character a strong, letâs say âold-fashionedâ connotation, and yet said set of values seems to come from an internal source rather than rely on tradition and external rules. He, for example, got rid of his helm and shield when he saw his adversary in combat was not fully equipped, but he also willingly assisted the Dauphin in taking over England despite having previously sworn an oath of loyalty to John Plantagenet, since his sense of honour compelled him to aid the man who provided him with the help he needed to get his home back. Geoffrey is way more likely to base his choices on what his own moral compass compels him to do rather than resort to convention and tradition to tell right from wrong. This makes Geoffrey a perfect blend of both old and modern qualities, and in the context of his relationship with women he tends to lean quite heavily on his more modern side. Â
Letâs go back to discussing his first introduction to Brianna for a second: he witnesses Brianna express her unrequited attraction to Ian, flirt with him and even mock-kiss him straight on the lips, and yet not only does that not make Geoffrey respect her any less, it also does not concern him at all later in book 3 when the story hints at the fact that he might have an interest in taking her as his wife. This is a rather unusual attitude! I mean, even the exuberant Etienne de Sancerre, who has shown an overt preference for feisty and confident women, grumbles and protests in jealousy when his wife Donna and Daniel greet each other with a hug while out in public, deeming the gesture to be inappropriate. What Iâm trying to say here is that this is a man who is waaaaay ahead of his peers in regards to his view of women and womanhood, and who also appears to be very confident in his masculinity (so confident, in fact, that the thought of having to âput women in their placeâ never once crosses his mind), hence why I keep sensing the most excellent kind of bisexual vibes coming from him.
Exhibit B: Geoffrey and men
2.1 Jerome and Geoffreyâs friendship makes NO sense
And I mean it. Yes, we do read about Ian wondering how two people with such different sets of core values (ok maybe Jerome lacked core values all together lol) could have ever been friends, which means that yes, readers are in fact meant to notice how misguided Geoffrey is in his commitment to honour this bond of friendship and avenge Jeromeâs death, but the more I think about this, the more I convince myself that this whole situation is, in factâŚreally weird.
Letâs start from the beginning: so, Geoffreyâs anger over Jeromeâs death is the main source of conflict between him and Ian, and it puts the plot of book 2 in motion. Now, we never actually saw Geoffrey and Jerome talk to each other in book 1 (because at the time of its drafting the author had not yet planned on writing a sequel for it) so all the available details about their relationship (mind you, there arenât that many) have to be gleaned from Geoffreyâs recollections present in book 2 and pieced back together in order to get a clearer picture. Another fact that should be noted is that we also never saw Jerome talk about Geoffrey (again, because Geoffrey wasnât really that relevant to the plot of book 1): Geoffreyâs words are the only source available when it comes to trying to reconstruct what their interactions might have been like, which means that our perspective on their friendship is going to be inevitably, extremely one-sided.Â
So here we go, book 2, chapter 5: Geoffrey has decided to abduct Ian and Daniel and drag them to his home in England to get some answers and avenge Jeromeâs death and he currently has Ian at his mercy, so he immediately starts asking questions. He asks why he currently is not home, he asks why his brother has no knowledge of his whereabouts, he asks if his name really is Jean Marc de Ponthieu, and these are all very dangerous questions: they pose a real threat to Ianâs credibility. But then, when Geoffrey asks why Jerome was so certain he was an imposter, Ian breathes in relief, because that means Geoffrey knows nothing about the ambush in Couronne.
But. Wait a second.
How could Geoffrey possibly not know about Couronne? Thatâs how Derangale KNEW without a shadow of a doubt that Ian and Jean de Ponthieu were never the same person! Dude was busy forging incriminating letters left and right with Ponthieuâs help??? He was the one who helped Ponthieu and Renaud De Dammartin set Isabeau up to be assaulted by Claude de Dammartin??? Geoffrey explicitly says Jerome was obsessed with Ian, so Derangale must have talked his ear OFF with all his incessant rambling about him being an imposterâŚand Geoffrey did not bother asking him about the details of this weird doppelganger theory of his ONCE? We know how sharp and observant Geoffrey is. We know he is perceptive, and straightforward in voicing his opinions, and not easy to fool. We know he is the type of guy who likes to ask direct questions and get believable, clear answers in return, so he MUST have asked Jerome why he was so sure about the illegitimacy of Ianâs identity. How did Jerome answer? Did he make up a lie on the spot? Geoffrey is equipped with a very functional built-in anti-nonsense super-sensor (the one that allowed him to immediately spot all the places in which Ianâs deception and intentional gaslighting were coming off at their seams even after Ian had managed to convince Geoffreyâs own father that he was Jean de Ponthieuâs second-born son), so if that was the case â if Jerome had indeed tried to make up some story about why he knew who the real Jean de Ponthieu was â Geoffrey (in theory) would have easily been able to tell that he was being lied to.Â
Do we then have to assume Jerome simply replied with âI just knowâ? WellâŚthe text implies that this is the most plausible option: as Ian and Geoffreyâs heated conversation goes on, we realize that the only reason Geoffrey believes Ian to be an imposter isâŚbecause Jerome said so. And this, in my opinion, says a lot about both Geoffreyâs relationship with Derangale and his current emotional state. Letâs really think about what this little kidnapping stunt of his must look like from an outside perspective: Geoffrey just decided to abduct a man whose identity has been publicly confirmed by Guillaume de Ponthieu, one of the most powerful men on French soil, who also happens to be a relative of king Philippe Auguste (which means Ian has ties to the royal family as well lol???), who ALSO confirmed that Ian is the youngest Ponthieu brother and PERSONALLY BESTOWED the title of Faucon du Roi upon him. Geoffrey does not (currently) have a shred of proof against Ian: he just chose to believe that Ian is some random foreigner who has been allowed to pretend to be a nobleman and marry Isabeau de Montmayeur by the count of Ponthieu and the king of France because thatâs what Jerome believed. Jerome stood alone in front of the entire French court, subjecting himself to ridicule, to denounce Ian as an imposter and Guillaume as a liar (and readers know he is 100% right, but look at this from the perspective of one of the characters who are not involved in this intrigue), which are such far-fetched, absurd, ludicrous accusations, even the closest of Jeromeâs friends would have demanded at least some evidence in order to give his version of the story some credit. And yet Geoffrey, who has not been given even one crumb of information on the real Jean de Ponthieuâs actual political alignment, simply decided to stand with him against the rest of the world.Â
And then, Ian starts answering Geoffreyâs questions by telling him all the vile things Jerome did to him, his family and his friends (while still carefully avoiding the Couronne topic): he tells him of his sadism, villany and criminal actions, and Geoffrey does not believe a single word of what heâs saying. He straight up calls all these accusations lies, and he urges Ian to stop insulting a knight of England his peer and a man of honour deserving of respect. Geoffrey refuses to listen to any negative remark Ian has to make and threatens him with violence when he insists on calling Jerome an unworthy man. âJerome wasnât a liarâ, he says; âhe was my friend, and you killed himâ. This is exactly what I meant when I said their friendship strikes me as extremely weird: I mean come on, really? Derangale was a textbook piece of shit. He was violent, vengeful, and arrogant, and yet Geoffrey describes him as a âman of honourâ??? It almost seems as if he and Ian are not even talking about the same person??? The sadistic felon Ian met in Cairs is nothing like the friend Geoffrey has such a high opinion of. Which can only mean one thing, namely that when he was with Geoffrey, Jerome was on his best behaviour. And in order to have adapted his behaviour to fit Geoffreyâs expectations of a good and honourable friend, Derangale must have had a very clear picture of the kind of person his âfriendâ was. Jerome knew Geoffrey would never have allowed all that malicious shit to happen under his watch, so he decided to keep all his plotting a secret from him. Geoffrey never was Jeromeâs accomplice in aiding Renaud de Dammartin, Ferrand de Flandre and Jean de Ponthieu steal the Montmayeur fief for king John, and therefore has no reason to believe Ianâs words.Â
There are two things about this situation that strike me as particularly weird. First of all: Derangale wasnât just witholding information from Geoffrey, he was also hiding his true nature from him. And GeoffreyâŚnever noticed? Geoffrey, who can usually smell bullshit and deception from a mile away, who has no difficulty in telling a man of honour from a felon, who normally would not bother wasting his time being friends with such an insufferable prick, never managed to guess the true nature of Jeromeâs character? Huh??? And secondly: why exactly did Derangale ask for help from a guy he was so sure he would never have been able to turn into one of his accomplices he had to actively keep parts of himself and his plans hidden for months up to the battle in Bouvines? What we know, thanks to Harald Martewall, is that Jerome was the first to reach out to Geoffrey back in book 1: apparently, the two of them used to be friends as young boys, then stopped seeing each other for a couple of years until Derangale decided to pick up the phone and give him a call. Geoffrey was in England, minding his own business, when Jerome contacted him to ask if he was willing to join him in BĂŠarne. He, as sir Harald recalls, âwas busy raising a cavalry troop for Ferrand De Flandre, and wanted my last-born as champion in a tournamentâ. It is not difficult to guess why Derangale asked specifically for Geoffrey to join his faction. Martewall is, simply put, the baddest bitch in the area: he is easily the scariest and most skilled warrior out of all the knights we get to meet in the saga, and an experienced tournament champion is precisely what Jerome needs for the little show he has in plan for BĂŠarne. What I really want to know here is: couldnât Derangale have called for literally any other English knight to help him win? Why did he risk enrolling a guy he knew would never have approved of his schemes and totally could have kicked his ass if he ever found out about his misconduct? Couldnât he have called for a couple more champions who would have been overjoyed at the opportunity of beating the shit out of all those French knights? Why did it have to be just him and Geoffrey against the ENTIRETY of Philippe Augusteâs lineup? Why was he so confident in his ability to manipulate Geoffrey? Oh AND. This is an information that is nowhere to be found in the actual books but it is something I asked the author to confirm because I was just too curious: GeoffreyâŚdid not have fun in BĂŠarne, like at all. He did not care for the show Jerome wanted to put on, he did not enjoy participating in that display of strength and superiority, and he was grumpier than usual during the whole ordeal. So our man Jerome basically decided to rely exclusively on Geoffreyâs excellence and made him travel all the way to BĂŠarne instead of putting together a slightly larger faction of fellows who could have maybe shared his immoral cause (like hello?????? itâs literally JUST the two of them against ALL the French nobles competing at the tournament lmfao??? I mean ok girl!!! give us drama! give us spectacle!) despite knowing that 1) he would have had to completely alter his behaviour around him 2) he could never have explained to him why he knew with absolute certainty Ian was an imposter and 3) Geoffrey would have intensely disliked being at the centre of theatrics. LikeâŚI get that Geoffrey is your most skilled friend when it comes to the art of jousting, but⌠his presence is also a bit too inconvenient in this context? I mean really? You didnât know any other knights in the area who could have been available as champions? You had to call for Geoffrey? Specifically for him? Haha girl ok! (oh and you also saved some of the custom higher quality blades you had made for your squadron to arm Geoffrey? Ok! Oh and you decided to pick Geoffrey as the other leader of your special squadron? Girl Ok!!! The guy would leave your ass in less than a second if he ever found out about your awful crimes so keeping him at your side is quite the risky move, but you do you I guess).
And another thing is, not only did Geoffrey hate every second of that charade, he (and this is also information that I got directly from the author) was downright shocked at Derangaleâs unprompted act of violence against the young count of GrandprÊ⌠that was something that caught him completely off guard and that left a bitter taste in his mouth. It makes total sense for Geoffrey to feel this way, thatâs very in character for him. What actually, really surprises me is Geoffreyâs reaction at hearing Ian mention this particular incident. You were there, says Ian, you saw Derangale attempt to kill a friend of mine with your own two eyes, and yet you insist on threatening me for calling him a criminal and an assassin. And thatâs what finally prompts Geoffrey to lay hands on him. He silences him with a slap so violent it almost makes him fall on the ground. Geoffrey reacted with anger and disbelief when Ian was describing him heinous crimes that he never witnessed and did not believe to be true, but only resorted to physical violence when Ian forced him to acknowledge and condemn an action he actually saw Jerome commit. This brief scene alone is enough for me to confidently conclude that Geoffrey is, there are no other words fit to describe his current emotional state, deep in DENIAL. He hears an uncomfortable truth he has no way of denying, he lets that send him into a violent rage, he acts that violence out and then he ends the whole conversation there. He just. Leaves. And he repeats the same exact pattern of behaviour a second time! Book 2, chapter 12: Martewall starts to interrogate Daniel, who tells him about Derangaleâs first attempt at kidnapping Isabeau AND manages to have one of his own men confirm his story. Then Geoffrey becomes visibly agitated, to the point he inadvertently breaks the rod he brought to beat information out of his prisoner in fucking two, CHANGES THE TOPIC OF DISCUSSION ON PURPOSE, and then when Daniel insists on bringing the conversation back to Derangaleâs crimes he draws his sword, points it at him in another fit of anger and then! He LEAVES!! AGAIN!!! Bro???????????? You keep saying you âwant the truthâ and yet when you finally get it you cut the conversation off because you donât like what youâre hearing? Hello???
âYou insist on defending him only because you do not want to admit you have been lied to and manipulated by himâ, this is what Daniel says to Martewallâs face, and the most articulate rebuttal he is able to come up with on the spot is âthat is not trueâ. He absolutely did not expect to be confronted with such merciless answers, and he has no idea how to cope with Ian and Daniel ripping into the image of the good and honourable Jerome that only exists in his mind, so he just rejects anything negative they have to say and breaks things like a moody teenager.
His behaviour is extremely erratic. For the entirety of the first half of book 2, Geoffrey is clearly not his usual self. His own father tells him he does not recognize him anymore. And when Sir Harald confronts him and makes an attempt at urging him to release Daniel, Geoffrey reacts with something I would almost describe as aâŚtemper tantrum? Sir Haraldâs request for an explanation from his son is more than legit: after all, he just learned from Daniel that Geoffrey decided to kidnap a renowned nobleman on a whim, without any evidence of his supposed crimes, WITHIN THE BORDERS OF HIS FIEF IN FRENCH LANDS. That could get them in SERIOUS trouble with both his brother Guillaume de Ponthieu and Philippe Auguste himself, as Salisbury will later remark on. I mean, this action is not only dishonourable, as Sir Harald will be very quick to point out, but also extremely stupid. And Geoffrey is not stupid. Like, at all. He knows when to shut up, his rage is usually under check, he is not prone to acting out in anger or taking rash decisions. But here, Geoffrey is letting his emotions run rampant. His father is being perfectly reasonable, and he replies quite disrespectfully by stating that he is not a young boy anymore and that he will not allow for any reproach o interference on his part.
It should be noted that Geoffreyâs troubled state of mind is not solely the result of Jeromeâs death. In fact, in chapter 12, Geoffrey makes it clear why he is so angry and frustrated. He lays out all of his reasons to his father:
âIâve always done my duty and I lost my honour because of those to whom I owed my loyalty. I fought loyally until the very end, I paid my defeat with imprisonment, only to discover at my release that my name is associated to those of a friend deemed a felon and a king judged a coward; I return to my homeland and I end up on a list of traitors because of you! I am forced to be subject to the last two accusations, but the firstâŚthat one I intend to acquit myself from with any means necessary. At this point, I have already lost my dignity as a knight and you are the last person who can reproach me for it, since you are the one who dealt me the final blowâ.
Geoffreyâs words reveal that he is also doing all of this for himself. He is now more desperate than ever to prove Jerome was always in the right, since this seems to be the only means of coping with the loss of his precious honour. The thought of having been friends with a felon of this magnitude is something Geoffrey could never, ever tolerate, because what would this say about him as a person? This explains the state of denial he currently is in: he has done something he would normally see as despicable by kidnapping Ian in his own lands, but he could excuse acting like a vulgar bandit if only he managed to force a confession out of Ian and avenge Jeromeâs death (have I already mentioned Geoffrey has NO business being mad about Jerome meeting his demise at Ianâs hands? Dude was killed in fair combat. On a battlefield. Ian did not assassinate him or anything of that sort, there simply are NO good reasons as for why Geoffrey could ever want to âavengeâ his friendâs death?? like thereâs literally nothing to avenge here??? Lol???). And although Geoffrey is indeed defending Jeromeâs honour because he feels that his crimes, if proven true, could reflect badly on himself, Geoffreyâs words still betray real attachment and a genuine feeling of affection for Jerome. Ian himself will later recognize their bond as valid by directly comparing it to the sentiment of friendship he shares with Daniel. At the time of Ianâs abduction, Geoffrey did not yet know that he would eventually be forced to fight yet another war once heâd finally reach his home: at that point in the story, Geoffreyâs motives for taking Ian and Daniel as prisoners had little to do with him wanting to gain back the honour he now feels his father tore from him by ordering him to side with him against their king. The primary motivation for his disreputable conduct in chapters 4 to 10 was, in my opinion, grief.
Another thing that I find extremely interesting and that in a way contradicts what I mentioned above about Geoffrey not being able to tolerate the thought of having been friends with a criminal, is that once he starts to come to terms with the proof of Jeromeâs misconductâŚhe never disavows their friendship. What he says once he finally accepts Ian as his friend and lets go of Jeromeâs obsession is: âI did everything in my power to honour our friendship, going even beyond common senseâ. He never tries to claim they were never really friends or proclaim he wants to cut all ties with such a man. And towards the end of book 3, when Geoffrey and Ian are discussing what Ianâs exile really implicates and Ian is finally forced to admit he never was Jean de Ponthieu, Geoffrey all of a sudden brings Derangale into their conversation to reflect on how Jerome was right all along and how happy he is to learn that he at least did not lie to him about this one specific thing. Well, maybe Iâm reading too much into this, but I was expecting him to focus on the sheer amount of lies he had been fed byâŚyou know, Ian, the friend who happens to be alive and whom he is currently confronting. He does not even seem interested in asking Ian to explain himself, it is Ian who apologises to him, completely unprompted. They were having a conversation about Philippe Auguste and Guillaume de Ponthieu wielding the power to destroy his life, and after several beats of silence and intense consideration, what Geoffrey decided to say out loud was âIâm happy Jerome didnât lie to me about youâ? Ummmmmmm ok??????????? Lying to him certainly was not the worst thing Jerome has ever done? What about the many crimes he committed against Ian, his friends and his family? What Iâm trying to say here is that Danielâs argument about Geoffrey having been manipulated by Jerome must have cut deep, since here he is, bringing this up again. Derangale died more than two years ago, and Geoffrey already gave up on trying to redeem his honour and reputation, but he appears to be still in the middle of the process of learning to truly let him go. Dealing with the idea of having been deceived in such a cold way by a close friend to whom he though he owed unwavering loyalty is proving to be challenging. I might be delusional but I can only make sense of the fact Geoffrey brought Jerome into their conversation about Ian only to briefly touch on a strictly personal matter that concerned his own feelings and his private relationship with Ianâs old archenemy if I assume Geoffrey was, at this point in time, still dealing with some very intense and complicated feelings (âŚ.furthermoreâŚâŚâŚâŚit doesnâtâŚreallyâŚmake senseâŚfor Geoffrey to be happy about Jerome telling him that Ianâs identity was a hoaxâŚsince the whole point of telling him thatâŚwas getting his help in destroying Ian and not really âbeing honestâ with himâŚlikeâŚGeoffrey, love, why are you so desperately hanging on to these miniscule scraps of âââhonest and genuine interactionsâââ, why do you still treasure this literal MICROSCOPIC CRUMB of âââsincerityâââ on Jeromeâs partâŚhelloâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚ???). Sorry but this whole Jerome/Geoffrey mess just exudes one-sided, unfulfilled and unacknowledged tenderness in copious amounts once you really start to read into it. My personal interpretation of the situation is that Geoffrey is having such a hard time trying to make sense of the extent of Derangaleâs manipulation and condemning him as someone who was always undeserving of his friendship and devotion because he completely lacks the tools to properly analyse and interpret his own feelings on the matter.
2.2 Geoffrey and Ian vs Geoffrey and Jerome
Iâm touching briefly on Ian and Geoffreyâs friendship dynamics in book 3 mainly because I think that their relationship will provide me with some good clues and parallels that could be of help in determining what Geoffrey was like when he was in Jeromeâs company, since the third instalment in the series gives us such a wonderful and complete picture of the kind of friend Geoffrey is. Remember how Geoffrey immediately sided with Ian against Gant without asking for evidence against him and came to Ianâs rescue twice despite having very important businesses to attend to? Geoffrey has repeatedly shown that he has a tendency to be aggressively protective of his closest friends, to the point he has no problem resorting to extreme violence to ensure their safety (Ian, bleeding on the floor, gripping Geoffreyâs arm: âplease tell me you took at least one of my assailants alive Iâm going to need a witness???????â Geoffrey: ââŚâ Ian: ââŚâ The pile of corpses right behind them: ââŚâ Geoffrey: ââŚsorry lol I kinda dealt with them in a bit of a heavy handed wayâ Ian: whimpers and collapses in his arms). Geoffreyâs attitude in regards to Ianâs enemies perfectly explains why he never had any qualms siding with Jerome against Ian despite the fact Derangale wasnât telling him shit about the supposed evidence behind his outlandish claims. This is actually part of his regular pattern of behaviour: Geoffrey has consistently shown a thorough commitment towards undying trust and unconditional support through direct action. He might seem cold and aloof since he is never seen behave in an overtly friendly or approachable way when he is out in public (he also does not smile ONCE throughout the whole trilogy), but this right here is, in my opinion, a very affectionate man who is capable of forming true and intimate bonds with a handful of hand-picked men whose company he deeply treasures. Letâs talk about how Geoffrey U-turned at the speed of light to go back and help Ian corner Gant even though he was in the middle of carrying out an extremely important mission for Blanche of Castile. Letâs talk about how Derangale did not even have the time to fall to the ground after Ian delivered him the finishing blow, because Geoffrey literally teleported behind him to catch him, hoist him on his horse and take him to safety (letâs also talk about how Ian later found Derangaleâs corpse among those of all the abandoned fallen soldiers the imperial army was not able to retrieve, and saw that his dead body had been laid on a shield with care, which means Geoffrey probably was the one responsible for preserving his dignity in death since we know for a fact he was there to hear Derangaleâs last words and witness him die â I am literally about to start screaming please send help :)))))))). Do not let his grumpiness and harsh words fool you, Geoffrey is the most dedicated best friend another knight could ever ask for.
HOWEVER, the main difference between the two relationships I am comparing is that Geoffreyâs support of Ian is always unconditional, but never irrational in the same way his pursuit of revenge on Jeromeâs behalf was, and at no point in the story does Geoffrey fail in evaluating Ianâs character or intentions. Furthermore, Ianâs gaslighting game was ON POINT in book 2, he was warping reality around Geoffrey like a damn magician, but Geoffrey never fully bought into his carefully crafted lies. And yet I am expected to believe that Derangale was such a skilled master manipulator he was able to conceal his true nature and agenda from Geoffrey for months? Hello??? PLEASE! Make it make sense!!! The ease with which Derangale was able to withold crucial information from him is extremely suspicious. Really? You mean to tell me Jerome Derangale had one of the least gullible people in the saga wrapped around his finger for years and never once slipped and misbehaved in front of him? Sorry I know at this point I must sound extremely redundant but Geoffreyâs selective blindness towards anything that concerns Derangale really is the weirdest thing ever, like, uh oh! Are you sure you didnât catch any overly soft feelings for your bestie? SoâŚIâm gonna say it: my theory on why Geoffreyâs behaviour was all over the place in the first chapters of book 2 is that he has always been completely unaware of the true nature and extent of his emotional attachment to Derangale, and this cluelessness of his contributed to worsening his already frustrated state. Furthermore, I also think Derangale must have noticed something was going on with Geoffrey and decided to use it to his advantage. Dude was a bit too confident, suspiciously confident in his ability to keep Geoffrey at his side without having to disclose any kind of compromising information.
In conclusion:
What Iâm trying to say here is that Iâm pretty convinced Geoffrey Martewall is not one of the straights. To sum all of this up, he:
-drinks astronomical amounts of his own extra strong brew of respect women juice on a daily basis
-has a tendency to get very attached to a few selected male friends who he then proceeds to protect with everything he has
-never noticed his old friend (đ) was lying to him, acted in a very out of character and erratic way for a while after his old friendâs (đđ) death and was ready to commit actual crimes in an attempt to honour his old friendâs (đđđ) memory.
So. Yeah. The bi vibes are there. I would rather die than give up my Clueless Bisexual King Geoffrey Martewall headcanons! Sorry but a straight Geoffrey would make zero sense to me. Your honour canât you see!!! this guy is WAY too cool not to be bi!!!
I rest my case.
P.S. I cannot BELIEVE Iâm actually posting this monster on the day of the anniversary of the battle of Bouvines??? I swear I didnât do it on purpose, at first I was really annoyed at the fact that putting this together was taking me weeks but then yesterday while I was editing I realized I would eventually be able to publish this on the very day Derangale died and Geoffrey was taken prisoner :ââ) Perfect timing am I right?
#I love....Geoffrey Martewall...so fucking much i literallyhschbcbg !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#He!!!!!!! HNGGGGG#also this is probably full of mistakes and typos and whatnot but i don't care at this point i just want to get my point across#and my point is that Geoffrey has to be bi and i am . right#haha ooops my Jerome/Geoffrey agenda is finally out in the open for everyone to see haha ooooooopppppp#anyway i've never posted anything this long before#Geoffrey was worth every single word I spent talking abt him tho#hyperversum#I'm tired I'm going to bed now byeeeeee#Geoffrey Martewall#Jerome Derangale#Ian Maayrkas

Itâd be so much easier to get hyped if we had more speculation fodder.
In the hiatus between âThe Rumble for Ragnarok!â and âThe Phantom and the Sorceress!â I did a similar post about how none of my speculations had changed after the first seven episodes of the season because nothing had really happened with regards to the main plot yet.Â
Now weâve had eleven more episodes... twelve if you count âLetâs Get Dangerous!â as two since it was an hour-long special. A lot happened in those episodes, especially regarding the main plot. The family knows F.O.W.L. is after them, Beakley and Scrooge (who know better than anyone else what F.O.W.L. is capable of) are freaking out, weâve learned a lot about Bradfordâs motivations (reining in chaos, trying to control everything and maintain order, etc.), and Hueyâs had some more character development.
Still, Iâm trying to figure out just what it is about this season thatâs so different. During Season 2 we were all abuzz with speculations. âOh my gosh, howâs Scrooge going to handle Louie turning to Goldie as a mentor? No, howâs Della going to handle Louie turning to Goldie as a maternal figure?â
We were a little off the mark about what was to come, but still, there were things in the episodes we got before going on hiatus that hinted at what was to come. Louie called Goldie and asked her to mentor him at the end of an episode. He seemed to struggle the most bonding with his mother after her return. We were able to piece some things together and speculate.
Why isnât that happening this time? Well... a lot of these episodes end with what seem like character arcs getting neatly wrapped up. This is the last season, and the writers have a lot of side characters whose story arcs need to conclude.
âThe Phantom and the Sorceress!â - Lena learns to control her powers and owns her status as a good witch. Also the episode ends with that classic cartoon letâs-all-laugh-when-nothing-was-funny-until-the-credits-roll bit which feels very much like a conclusion to anyone whoâs grown up watching a lot of cartoons.
âThey Put a Moonlander on the Earth!â - Penny decides to stay on Earth and take apart her rocket. She is now comfortable knowing she can live out her savior complex by saving people on Earth instead of the Moon, and sheâs becoming more social. Apparently Sam King said this would be the last episode to feature Penny. Arc complete.
âThe Forbidden Fountain of the Foreverglades!â - We finally see Goldie and Scrooge kiss and it seems like theyâre back together...? I think? But at any rate, Goldie having the character development to not leave without saying goodbye and to put Scroogeâs needs ahead of her wants (throwing away her youth to save him) feels like the character development in Goldie we were waiting for.
âLetâs Get Dangerous!â - Setup for a spinoff.
A few episodes hint at things to come. âEscape from the Impossibin!â lets us know that F.O.W.L. stole all the Missing Mysteries. âThe Split Sword of Swanstantine!â ends with Black Heron letting Bradford know sheâd obtained a feather, presumably from Scrooge.Â
I was curious to know what Bradford wanted with the Missing Mysteries, but âThe First Adventure!â kind of answered that. He wanted the Papyrus of Binding, not to use it himself (though he eventually did), but to keep it from falling into anyone elseâs hands. His whole purpose of founding F.O.W.L. was to take control of the world for controlâs sake. He wants to rein in chaos, not make more of it. So it makes perfect sense heâd be after the Missing Mysteries. Also, we see this is when he learned (from Heron) to wait for Scrooge to find something and then take it when heâs not looking - a strategy he used in the present day to obtain the Missing Mysteries.Â
As for the feather... now thatâs a mystery. But what other theories could there be besides cloning someone, or genetically engineering the ultimate spy (which @alliterative-albatross already talked about)?Â
One mystery we have yet to solve is Webbyâs origins, and while this season will surely address this, one thing I know would certainly make me more hyped for the answer is knowing what Webby knows/thinks about her parents/origins so far. Does she believe an outright lie about them that Beakley told her? Or did Beakley tell her a half-truth? Did Webby even have parents, or was she created? Has she ever asked Beakley about why she doesnât have a mom and dad? Did Beakley tell her anything, or did she just say itâs hard for her to talk about and then tell Webby to run along and play?
Donald had told the boys their mother was âgone.â We knew early on in Deweyâs season what theyâd been told about their mother, and it wasnât much. Weâre more than two thirds of the way through the final season now and we have no clue what Webby knows or thinks or what sheâs been told in the past, and she doesnât seem at all curious to know about her parents. And with no new hints at her origin story in this last batch of episodes, I donât know about all of you, but things feel a little stagnant.Â
We also havenât been getting any hints from Frank here on Tumblr. Maybe itâs because the series is ending in a big way and he doesnât want to spoil a thing, or maybe 2020 just did a number on him like the rest of us. Canât blame him for that. Canât blame him for either, really.Â
As sad as it is that the series is coming to a close, I hope we donât have to wait too long to find out this incredible ending the crew canât wait for us to see.

Cards & Falling Asleep scene-- Raymondâs POV
This is a scene that isn't intended to be part of the story, which is from Terran's perspective, but nonetheless an important one.
Some context: Raymond has asked Terran to stay over to get to know him better. Raymond has mental magic, meaning he can sense and influence people's minds. He's also facing a bit of a situation that Terran doesn't fully know the details of.
I don't think I need and trigger warnings?
Under the cut
War had been the only card game I could think of that might actually get him out of his head. Definitely the only one I was pretty sure he knew. It was a simple, dumb game with no strategy, no bluffing, no prediction. I think he was trying to anyway, counting cards a bit, but there was nothing to do about it. You put the next card down, thatâs all there is to it.
I think Iâd rattled him a little with the visualizing thing. I hadnât even been sure heâd be able to see it if I implanted an image, but I knew he had by the bewilderment on his face. And oh my god, Iâve never seen him bewildered. Occasionally Iâd seen him surprised, plenty of times heâs been frustrated, maybe even confused in a flustered way. And it was so fun, he was capable of bewilderment, there were things he didn't know. Of course, there were plenty of things I thought he was wrong about, and I knew in a way he was sheltered⌠was sheltered the right word? His world and perspective was narrow, specialized.Â
We flipped over cards, my jack beating his 5, and I swiped the cards off the bed and put it in my pile. He was intently watching the space in front of us, waiting for me to flip over the next one, but I had to pause to jog my pile, and it was kind of interesting to look at him when he was focused on something but not focused on it. Usually his intense look made me uneasy, but right now it didnât.Â
I flipped over my top card and he flipped his. I stared at the cards for a second, and he broke his gaze to look at me.
âItâs a 9, you get it.â
I smiled, laughing at myself, and grabbed them. I hadnât been sure it was a 9 or a 6, but either beat his 4 anyway. We kept going, a steady rhythm of flipping and grabbing, but when I paused, staring at a 7 and a 3, he chuckled at me.
I took the cards and shot him a playful glare.Â
âDo you need to review your numbers?â he asked, a grin pulling at his mouth, and he was teasing me and it just made me smile more.
âI havenât taken a math class in two years,â I said, defending myself.
âAnd in that time have you not encountered numbers?â He flipped over another card, and we continued playing, and I tried to think of a good retort, but our numbers matched, so we declared war and he took the pile. âHey.â
âNot my fault, itâs the cards.â
âBad cards.â Iâd run out so I grabbed my discard pile.Â
âTheyâre your cards.â
âTheyâre the hotelâs cards,â I corrected, then remembered. âActually theyâre the last hotelâs cards.â
Terran paused and looked at me, raising an eyebrow. I raised mine mischievously. Itâs been an accident, Iâd swiped everything off the bedstand into a bag and only realized when Iâd unpacked. I was considering it being a thing, that I steal each hotelâs playing cards and leave the lastâs as a joke, but I knew Terran wouldnât approve of that idea, and it was probably a bad one anyway. Besides, I was worried someone would get in trouble. It was best to be the perfect guest. So I shrugged it away.Â
âWell, that explains why they donât like you,â he said, and the carrying of the joke and lack of disapproval surprised and thrilled me.Â
Still though, I didnât know how to respond, and our attention returned to the cards. The only sound became the sound of cards flipping over, and before long heâd gotten almost the entire deck.
I didnât mind. It was nice to play cards with him. Iâd played cards a good amountâ it was a good thing to do between studying. Iâd played with Jodi a lot, weâd gotten really intense about playing Gin. When her friends joined weâd play Hearts or Cheat, but you really needed more than two players for that. Iâd never bothered to buy a deck, somehow we could always find one and every hotel Iâd ever been at provided one. Iâd thought of playing cards as a possibility, but as soon as Iâd sensed that memoryâall Iâd gotten was a poker chip, fire, and fearâIâd remembered the few times weâd played cards back before, and remembered that heâd played cards with Zachary. And it wasnât a game then. Iâd never been sure what it was exactly, but Iâd sensed that it wasnât fun. They treated it like an exercise in fucking over each other.Â
Not something I wanted to bring into this space. Not when the entire point of this was so I could know who he was outside of that.Â
This was working, though. The playful teasing, the grin heâd shoot me sometimesâ that was what Iâd wanted. And I could feel him more relaxed than Iâd ever known him, and I got the feeling that this was himâ more himself than heâd ever been.Â
Or maybe I was hoping it was so much. Maybe I was extrapolating the good parts and ignoring the bad. He was good at acting, and I wasn't sure if being unfocused fixed that. Playful teasing wasnât too far from the witty sarcasm he sometimes employed. Maybe he was acting, always.
But for a second he looked at me, and there was something there in a quick glance, something I donât think was acting. Because if thereâs one thing Terran canât do, itâs flirt, even if itâs fake or would be beneficial. That was what really made me realize that it was an act, that it wasnât really him. Sneaking a glance like that wasnât a planned flirt. He didnât even pick up on me flirting with himâ that I knew, because Iâd snuck a peek once while placing a hand on his leg. He was likely teasing me because heâd learned it from me.Â
I have no idea if he likes me, though. I want to take a snuck glance as a sign, but with him, I have no idea. Iâm pretty sure all of thatâflirting, dating, attractionâis something heâs never really had to interact with.Â
And it doesnât even matter. Thatâs not the point. Does it thrill me to have him so close, to actually feel him reaching out to me? Sure. But I donât care right now if it means something like that or if itâs just desperation. Because he doesnât get comfort or safety, I know that, or affection in any way. Zachary doesnât give affection. Mika can be very affectionate but no way sheâd give him any. Maybe Iâm flirting, but maybe I'm giving him something he needs, because how can I even expect him to be better without getting any positive connections? So this is for him, tooâ to actually give him some connection.
But it might be cruel, too. Might end up being worse. Which is why I really hope at the end of this I trust him, because I really, really want his help.Â
Iâd been so distracted I don't even realize that Iâve stolen back a good portion of the deck. âYouâre making a comeback,â he says, and I look down to see that I have, and now I focus on the cards and continue to steal away his until he places his last card down, and 8, and I turn over my queen and smile, taking the last card and the pile.Â
âYou win,â he says, and leans over, lying down on the pillows, and heâs closer to me now and I can tell heâs tired. Heâs usually tired, constantly casting a spell takes up a lot of energy and I donât think he sleeps very well either. I considered offering to put him to sleepâ after studying sleep cycles I experimented with myself. Problem was once I got to stage 2 I wasnât conscious enough to purposefully go into REM, but then I brought it up with Jodi and she gave me permission to try it on her. Being in someoneâs mind while theyâre in REM is a really cool feeling, very intimate. Itâs vulnerable in a real way, a way I didnât expect. Itâs really hard to get into someoneâs mind while theyâre asleep, but it turns out already being in opens up so much because all mental defenses are lowered. I donât think Terran would appreciate the offer.
Instead, I say, âItâs kind of a relief for you to know about the college thing.â
âOh?â He's still leaning against the pillow.Â
I lean back so Iâm next to him. âI didnât want to keep it a secret but I know you donât approve.â he looked like he was going to respond, so I added, âand I donât want to hear it now.â
He stayed quiet.
âBut I did want to just because Iâve learned a lot. How our minds work, even how our magic works. Itâs crazy how much I was going on instinct before, but also how I was right about some things. I know where Iâm going now, know what Iâm doing.â
âYouâve always been smart,â he said, and his voice was sleepy, which was really sweet in a way I didn't expect, and I looked at him and he looked really tired but he was still watching me.Â
I brushed away the compliment. âI did well in school because Mom taught me how to improve memory. Youâre always a step ahead of me unless I lie to you.â
âNo,â he replied.
âI donât know my numbers, remember?â
This time his eyes were closed. âNumbers arenât that important. Youâre smart. Youâve always been.â
I didn't respond. My instinct was to argue with it but then I remembered Jodi telling me to stop arguing whenever I got a compliment. I hadnât been smart enough to avoid Zachary. Hadnât enough even to listen to Terran and stay far away from Calson. Hadnât been smart enough to keep Jodi out of it, or Jesse.
I felt him fall asleep, drifting off. Felt him, relaxed. I stayed where I was for a while, just looked at him. His hair flopping against the pillow, his face relaxed for maybe the first time Iâd ever seen it. I had the urge to reach out, to touch his face, his hair, but I decided against it, keeping my hands resting on the blanket.Â
I wish I didnât trust him so much. This whole thing, testing himâ itâs testing me. Proving or disproving for myself. Maybe I shouldnât be testing him anyway. I keep trusting him. I trust him without even thinking about itâ saying I didn't was a lie, projecting the frustration that he didnât trust me. But I shouldnât trust him, not as much as I did. Did I trust him just because I liked him? Or did I trust him just because heâd saved my life? Maybe it was just gratitude.Â
I got up, finding a quilt theyâd put in the lower drawer and laying it over him so heâd have some warmth. He was in REM already. Dropping straight into REM was unusual, his body must be desperate for sleep. Moving him would have been close to impossible, and no way would I risk waking him. If I could Iâd keep him in REM just so he could get a good nightâs sleep, but it would bounce up to stage 4 and 3 soon. I undressed enough that I could sleep comfortably and turned off the light, getting under the covers enough so I was covered but didnât disturb him, and closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep.
My chest tensed up. I was breathing shallowly, not deeply like I should be. My mind was alertâI could hear every sound, but specifically his breathing. Sleep breathing. I knew that. Slow and light. But all of me was alert to him and his presence and how close he was and I realized in an uncomfortable moment that it wasnât a âSomeone I like is very close to meâ kind of alert.
I was scared.
Why was I scared? Why was my brain doing the âpredators are close, not safe to fall asleepâ signal? Hadnât I just been trying to figure out why I trusted him so easily?
Maybe I didnât trust him. At least not enough to sleep next to him. Not enough to give up consciousness around him. Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck.
It dragged on. I stayed still trying to tell myself to relax. Even trying to do what Iâd done before, use magic to bring me into stage 1, but as soon as I tried to get to the next step I found myself fully aware again.Â
I stared at him. He was the vulnerable one right now. He was asleep, not conscious in the slightest. Not me. Although I suppose he could wake before me.
I knew he wouldnât hurt me. He wouldnât harm me. Heâd fucking risked his life for me. I knew that. And I knew he was always fighting me just because it was to keep me safe. And I knew he wasnât the person heâd once been.
But I kept remembering that. Remembering that person. Weâd reached a point of some level of friendship even before heâd saved me. But even then Iâd been uneasy, alert. Watching my step. Knowing he was watching and judging me and it wasn't just about impressing him. Knowing how easily he could kill a person, without being barraged with guilt and thoughts of who that person was or could have been. Knowing that he viewed that in me as a weakness. Iâd never expected him to save me. I hadnât even expected to beg for my life, Iâd accepted it.Â
Iâve always been skeptical of the claim that fear and love are close. And it was loveâ even without attraction or romance or anything like that, I knew love, and I loved my friends and my family and Terran had become both, somehow. But now, staring at him, fear washing over me, maybe they were closer or more interchangeable than I thought.
Maybe I didnât trust him. I should trust my bodyâs reactions, shouldnât I? I should trust this fear, this instinct. Iâve never been good at instinct. Mika had been, sheâd just deferred to me. And I thought it out, but not in the way that Terran did. He assumed people were lying, looked for reasons not to trust them, and I looked for reasons to trust them. So maybe Iâd been wrong about Terran. Maybe that was the logical explanation for this.Â
Or maybe, I realized, this wasnât about him at all. Terran was a distraction from the real problem I was facing. A distraction from thinking about Jodi and the message and what I was going to do.Â
I hadnât planned to beg for my life. Iâd made a decision and been ready to die for it. Just like now. But then when I was facing him, knowing it was about to end, I found myself asking, found myself reaching out to someone I wasnât sure I could reach. I hadnât wanted to die when it was facing me head on, and now it was again so of course I was scared. Of course I couldnât sleep when it was very possible this was one of my last nights.

Hypermobile anon here. First, thank you so much. It's just nice to know there's someone here for me. And to give a little more info, I have a serious problem where if I'm not currently in pain. I don't remember how bad it was. I know everybody does this, but my brain literally checked out as I was going to bed recently and I fell on the floor. I nearly forgot to tell my physical therapist.about it because it didn't really hurt. So, I can't do the pain scale very well, and I never remember (1/2)
(2/2) It just makes it sort of hard for pain relief when I don't know I'm going to need it and don't have the energy when I do. Also, on the vitamin subject, I know that I've had vitamin d issues before (bad heat exhaustion and allergy scares = going outside less), bad enough that I was close to being diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I'm not sure about the others, but I do know I'm not amazing healthy, so? I take calcium pills for the vitamin d, though. Again, thank you guys for all your help.
.
We just got a bill from my PT place that says we owe money that we can't pay. They told us up front how much it would be with our insurance, and my mom's been paying each time, but it says we owe 177 dollars. Sure, it's not a lot, but we're not rich and trying to send a sibling to college. If we can't get this sorted out. I can't just not go. 10 exercises I can do at home and 5 appointments is not enough to help a chronic disorder. I cant focus and I have practice in 30 mins. -Hypermobility anon
Same day but later when I'm feeling a little better (my director was very supportive though so that's nice), I'd seen the letter and heard my parents talking a bit, but my mom told be as we got to school for rehearsal about PT. I got upset, and I felt bad because I could tell she felt bad because she didn't expect me to be upset, and in the heat of the moment I said "chronic illness" in front of my mom for the first time. She loudly (not quite yelling) (1/?) - Hypermobility anon
said to me "That is the most self-pitying thing I've ever heard. Chronic illnesses are like cancer". Sure, I probably should've said disorder and not illness, but I'm scientifically right. Then I said "It is, it's chronic pain, I am always in pain" and she said "Well then clearly PT isn't helping anyway" - I??? When I went in after 15 minutes after another girl, since we were both there for an hour and a half, I decided to stop trying too much to hide my crying (useful masks) (2/?) -HSD anon
since the other girl was in the hall to eat, and when I managed to explain to the director, she was understanding and nice, and when I said chronic, she said that I should never have to live with that, especially at my age. And when I mentioned not being able to sing at that moment from my crying, she pointed out how I was singing an empowering song that was about standing against the bad stuff in life, and I was perfect for it. I know my mom was just mad, but it just drained me.
Sorry I keep sending asks so often, I just feel like telling someone this. I decided to put 'zebra' in my bio. It's a thing that people with EDS and HSD sometimes like to call themselves. I like it, so even though I just have my name and pronouns, plus a random joke, in my bio, I added it. It just feels like a step in the right direction to remembering that I don't need google to tell me I'm dealing with this every 5 minutes. Accepting it, I guess. :) -HSD anon
.
My sleep schedule just keeps getting worse and I think it's my ADHD combined busy days and pain but I just never want to sleep anymore. I can't, I don't want to, and it hurts physically and mentally to just lie there and see if I can fall asleep. 80% sure my circadian rhythm changed to sleep at about 2 am but I get up at 7 and have a chronic disorder that's getting worse because of this I *need sleep*. And I'm so scared I'll mess up, want to make a side blog for it but want to make one (1/2)
for something happy first because I always figured that if I had side blogs they would be ask blogs or for fandoms or whatever. But I got a little better at not caring what other people think, so I haven't really needed one for fandom. But I looked through the tag and felt so comforted by some of the stuff that I just think it would help me. Maybe I'm just extra bad tonight because I went outside but also talked about it a fair amount with a friend I hadn't seen recently who didn't know. -HSD
.
I wanna talk to my physical therapist about hip braces because I tried a knee one we have and it honestly helps, but my hips are worst so I wanna see if it would help, but they're pretty expensive. It's hard to find dual hip braces, from what I've seen in my research, and even though one more than the other, both cause me issues. Idk, I'm conflicted, because it could help but is it worth all the effort? Also, even if it's under clothing it's still physical evidence (1/2) -HSD anon
(2/2) of my "invisible" disorder. Also, stopping exercises for a few days because of not feeling well from my covid shot reminded me of just how much time I spend on them, so it's another thing to deal with this. . . Idk, sometimes I just wonder if it would be better to just deal with it. I still have pain anyway, though it might be a little better. Less often, maybe? I don't really remember. It's not stressing at the front of my mind all the time, but the back of it. I'm just conflicted. -HSD
.
HSD anon here, idk if I mentioned it in an ask already, but recently I had a small breakdown because I was watching something where a character was in a car accident, as was trying to push through having trouble walking even with a hip brace. After a minute, I registered it and just thought "That could be my future". My joints had already been acting up and then they got worse, so I don't know if it was cause and effect? But I don't exactly know what to call it other than a trigger. (1/2)
Physical and emotional effect, at least I'm assuming on physical because I've had a bad reaction to something similar before, but like, I don't have trauma, I think it's more fear of the future. And I don't want to use trigger incorrectly, it's insensitive to those who actually have triggers. I'm just so confused.
Forgot to sign the last ask with 2/2 and HSD, whoops.
.
Hfnsiwk I'm not ready to walk into PT tomorrow and say that I don't think months of PT have been helping but I have no way to be completely sure because for all I know it's the weather since this is the first year I've known/it's been noticeable. Maybe it's just change, I don't know, but it just feels like such a waste of time if it really didn't help. Plus, I'd stop, and while that'd be great, I do enjoy being stronger, even if it didn't help pain. I have 12 hours and a bad pain day idek. -HSD
.
Hi Hypermobility Anon,
I think I found all your asks and got them in the correct order. And found your last ask!
Iâm so glad you kept writing in. I think you should go ahead and make your side blog - you definitely have enough material for it. Wanting to make a happy side blog also is a great goal to have, but if you donât know what it will be yet, donât let that prevent you from doing something you know you want to do and that will probably help you. Â
You are dealing with So. Much. Your mom especially sounds like she just is not ready to accept the situation. Itâs not self-pity to state your actual conditions. Itâs just reality. Â
Forgetting about pain is normal, and really all you can do is try to write it down or make some kind of note about it in the moment or immediately after, so you can refer to it later. Maybe you can track your pain events in your phone notes.
I think your idea to add âzebraâ to your bio is a good one, this is part of your life and just something you have to deal with. It sounds like youâre finding a community for this. Â
Sleep schedules are tricky, and feeling like you desperately need to sleep can make it so stressful that it starts a vicious little cycle. Some strategies to get around this are First, remember that just resting is okay and helpful too, even if you donât fall asleep. Letting your body lay there to rest is good for you. Â
Second, if youâve spent several minutes laying down without falling asleep, its okay to get up and walk around, or any small light exercise thatâs comfortable for you. The goal with this one is to get out of the bed for a bit. It will help your brain to re-learn that the bed is for sleeping only, not for laying awake. That association can help signal to your brain to start its sleep-process when you get into bed at night.
Third, itâs really common to have a changing circadian rhythm during your teens and twenties. Thatâs just a thing that happens and you canât do much about it, so just try not to worry too much. Sleep when it feels right and when you can, instead of trying to force yourself to sleep when youâre âsupposedâ to. Â
If hip braces would help you, you should definitely at least mention it to your physical therapist. You might research online for any used ones as well. A physical sign that you have pain can have good and bad consequences, but I think the good consequence of being in less pain far outweighs any others.
The triggering event you described is not so much a trigger as it is just a genuinely really upsetting situation. You related really strongly to the character you were watching, because theyâre dealing with similar problems to you, and to problems you could have in the future. Itâs a lot to process. But while you could potentially be in a car accident, remember that television is made to dramatize events and probably made it seem a lot more difficult and scary than it really would be. Â
Since we know you sometimes forget your pain, itâs safe to say that the exercises are helping you manage it, and you say that theyâve made you stronger in general.  Those are good things, and I would recommend you continue the exercises you can do on your own even if you end of ending your physical therapy sessions. We donât know yet if your pain might have gotten even worse without therapy. Youâll have to find that out on your own if you stop exercising, and then decide whether itâs more worth it to you to continue exercising or to live with the pain. Whichever you choose, itâs Your choice, Your body. Take care of yourself. <3

Do you think that portraying a portion of our characters as alters would remove their depth? Would portraying female characters and characters of color as alters of Will remove their agency? This is not my personal opinion but Iâve seen this topic come up as a concern with the DID theory and seeing as you answer every ask so thoughtfully.
DID is a widely misunderstood condition due to the way in which it has been portrayed in a lot of popular media, but also because it is a unique condition that most people have not spent a lot of time learning more about. When fans are ignorant and say incorrect things like âalters arenât realâ they are perpetuating incorrect information about DID and being prejudiced against those who have DID.
âEl is her own person! With her own free will!â
- Nancy Wheeler, season 3
DID is a real medical condition. People need to educate themselves more on the topic before they engage in (incorrectly) asserting that El being an alter would somehow make her less important or âless realâ than Will. If the theory that Will and El are both part of a DID System is correct: they share the same mind and their brain belongs to them both. Theyâre two different, separate states of consciousness in their shared mind. Shared.
Alters are not imaginary friends, and they are not hallucinations. Alters are distinct, separate states of identity within a single human brain. A host in a DID System does not âcontrolâ other alters. They are not puppets or characters in a fictionalized story that was invented by a personâs imagination. And itâs very important that people treat alters as unique individuals.
Describing an alter as ânot realâ is incorrect and ignorant. Alters are just as real as you or me. Fans, when discussing or criticizing the theory that Stranger Things is about a DID System, need to be aware that any time they criticize this theory and say something like âalters are not realâ that theyâre being prejudiced against real alters in real DID Systems who might read their comments online and be hurt. Alters are each unique individuals, and they are real.
Alters have their own agency. They have real feelings and experiences. They have their own free will. Their sense of identity and their memories and experiences are separate from the experiences of other alters. Even when alters are co-conscious together they will still perceive of those shared experiences differently.
To make a very simplistic analogy: imagine many people living in the same body that sometimes can interact with one another face-to-face in spaces within their shared subconscious mind. (Those spaces are referred to as âinternal worlds.â)
Do you consider yourself real? How do you define your identity? You probably, like me, define yourself by the many experiences you have had throughout your life and by your memories and your relationships with other people. That is how Alters develop their sense of identity, too: through their real memories, relationships, and experiences. But a key difference is that they exist together in one mind and body. But they are all real. One alter is not more or less ârealâ than another alter.
Anyone that takes issue with the concept of El and Will possibly taking turns being conscious in their shared body in the external world might need to be wary of seeming prejudiced against trans identities and experiences. El is a girl and Will is a boy.
Regarding your point about the concept of Lucas potentially being an alter: I personally suspect that Lucas exists in the external physical world as a friend no matter what is going on in the story, but if there were also an alter in the DID System that was named Lucas and was based off of their friend named Lucas, then that alter-Lucas would be understood to perhaps have the same physical appearance within the internal world of the mind but would not have a Black identity in the same way that friend-Lucas does (obviously) because the lived experiences that this alter has would not be the same as a Black person. (This is a very good and complex question. Iâm not sure I can do it justice. But it is definitely important to clarify that no, an alter in a DID System is not going to have a racial identity that is equivalent to racial identities and experiences in the external world unless that identity does, in fact, reflect their bodyâs physical appearance and cultural heritage in the external, physical world.)
Many DID Systems will have alters with different genders, ages, races, etc. but this is not the result of a conscious choice. Hosts, who are simply alters that are in control of the body the most often in the physical external world, donât consciously âcreateâ their alters or control them in any way. And from what I currently understand about DID (and keep in mind I am just a layperson that has done some research of my own, Iâm not a medical professional) the appearance of an alter is speculated to oftentimes be based on a personâs subconscious understandings of traits theyâve observed in the external world that they believe would empower them to deal with a specific traumatic situation better. Their subconscious brain went âWho would be the most capable of dealing with this horrible situation? Who could deal with this more easily?â And this is why oftentimes an alter might be based on a person that they know in their life. I think that it is highly likely that the DID System in Stranger Things might feature many alters based on people that they know in the external world. Friends, family members, local bullies (like Billy Hargrove, perhaps?) etc. Alters based on the subconscious mindâs impression of people from the external world are referred to as introjects. But an alter is not an imaginary friend: that alter then becomes part of their own mind that has taken on these traits subconsciously.
Will as a host in a DID System would not have any conscious control over his alters any more than he has control over any other person in his life: thatâs not how DID works. Alters have their own agency. Alters with certain roles have greater access to the DID System than hosts out of necessity, and therefore I believe a case could be made that at times Will is the one that has less agency. In some DID Systems hosts sometimes have absolutely no access to their internal worlds at all, and when they lose consciousness everything is like being asleep for them. And in other cases DID System hosts might have only partial access or a lesser level of awareness in the Systemâs internal worlds. From what Iâve read each DID System has its own unique structure based on what was needed by them in order to survive certain traumatic events in their shared lives.
Part of the reason hosts have limited access is because the DID System is an elaborate subconscious coping strategy that the brain has constructed in order to protect hosts from trauma so they can continue surviving and dealing with every day life and taking care of themselves. If hosts were given complete access to the System in the same way that certain alters have access then hosts would be exposed to traumatic memories and experiences that they might not be ready to deal with and that would defeat the entire purpose of the DID System having been established in the first place. Think of it as levels of security access in a building: not everyone has the same access granted on their little door swipe cards. Hosts oftentimes have very limited access because their brain is storing their memories beyond their reach. Alters will each have memories that the host(s) do not.
If any fans dislike the concept of Will being a host in the System because they perceive of this as some sort of âcontrollingâ or âpowerfulâ role in a DID System: hosts generally have to deal with an arguably frightening and intimidating lack of control over their own mind and over the System. Hosts need to establish communication with their alters and trust in order to coordinate shared decision making because they generally, by design, do NOT have access to certain parts of their mind and the internal worlds because theyâre not supposed to. The only influence that hosts have on their altersâ decisions is established through communication and agreement just like if you made an agreement to pick your neighbor up from school at 3pm. Thereâs nothing stopping you from deciding not to do that, but you choose to do so because youâve established trust with your neighbor and they know they can rely on you.
âFriends donât lie!â The importance of alters telling the truth to each other would be critical to their shared survival. I should hope nobody is lying if you have no way of being sure what your body had been doing all day while you werenât conscious in the external world and you need to check in and ask other alters what they did. (Have a great day! Donât forget to lock the front door. Can you cook some pasta and make sure we eat tonight? Okay, cool. Thanks! Wait: you had a fight with mom? And you didnât tell us? Not cool! Now we donât know why sheâs angry at us and have no idea what was said. Ugh.)
But to return back to your original question: although I understand that many fans might be unfamiliar with DID and with the concept of alters, I hope that fans would seek to better understand the condition and would not be so deeply disrespectful of real DID Systems that exist and suggest that theyâre somehow not ârealâ because of their condition. Inevitably there will always be those that donât understand and who donât respect othersâ experiences.
I hope I answered your question sufficiently! This was such a good question, and Iâm really glad that you Asked. Thank you!

I have sent this statement to one of the Harry fan blogs claiming that "His family was going to stand by and let his pregnant wife kill herself." This was one of the narratives resulting from the Oprah interview that I really hate. I'm also particularly disappointed that the memoir could possibly result in this narrative being perpetuated further.
Didn't Harry say he didn't tell his family about Meghan's suicidal tendencies? He said in the Oprah interview that he was too ashamed to admit it. So how can his family stand by and let his pregnant wife kill herself when the same family wasn't even informed that Meghan was taking all the criticisms that badly in the first place? I blame the BRF in particular for failing to rally behind Meghan. Little things would have count - an engagement here and there, reports on a jewel from the vault gifted to her or something. Anything to show that she has been embraced fully and has their backing in this criticism barrage from the press. But it's not as if they were told that "Hey, Meghan wants to kill herself" and they replied with "Oh, good to know".
What Harry did to remove his family from the toxicity in the UK (which apparently followed them even to the US) is admirable (although I don't agree with how he went about it) but it's not enough to put him on a pedestal and blame everything on everyone else but him. He knew his wife was taking things badly, couldn't he have sought help from other relatives he trusted? I know Charles and William are probably out of the equation but what about the Queen, Eugenie, his Spencer aunts, Earl Spencer? Harry was influential in the UK as well and there was so much more he could have done other than hugging his wife and letting her cry her eyes out. He has admirably defied royal protocol in defense of Meghan but we have to believe that he couldn't have defied them at the time when she needed it the most to get help for her? To use the words of my favorite baby niece, "get real".
That notion really is disgusting, and I hate that people think it's true. Harry said himself that he was TOO ASHAMED to ask for help for Meghan. There's a lot of context to that phrase that is missing and that I can't be bothered to look up but he did say that, more or less word for word. I took 7 pages of notes when the interview aired. That's what he said. These people are not monsters nor television villains. That's a complete bastardization of what's actually been said to have occurred and they can't do that when they cry every time someone does that to Harry and Meghan. That's horrible. Absolutely horrible.
They told us, too, that the infrastructure of the palace did nothing. While that may very well be true (and disgusting, if it is), the family is not the institution. The family is the boss, sure, but you're telling me that the Queen of the United Kingdom does employee reviews and checks their emails and has that much of a grasp on what's going on? No way, and nor should she. Meghan deserved the help - everyone deserves help - and it's so, so horrible that she didn't get it. I don't know if the infrastructure of the institution could have gotten her the help she needed, but I can one think of one major person who could have, the one whose priority it should have been to do so, and didn't, because he was ashamed, even though he went and got it for himself not three years earlier.
Imagine if she did get that help? What could have been? She'd have been so much happier, so much healthier, could have basked in the joy of her first pregnancy, maybe learned to let the press bullshit roll right off her shoulders. Harry would have finally chilled out and he probably wouldn't be as traumatized as he clearly is now. They could have been at peace much, much sooner - like they both deserve.
And, on a much shallower note, would they have left? My money's on no.
The family needed to do more, and I've always argued that the small things carry much heavier weight than the grand sweeping gestures that some expect. Engagements, jewelry loans, polo matches are much bigger than statements chomping at the bit to go after every single bad article or rumor floating around. I'd have like to have seen more of HM's earrings, for example. Charles and Meghan, Camilla and Meghan, Kate and Meghan engagements. Inviting Meghan to do things privately so it'd leak to the press, because it usually does. Harry and William playing polo while their wives and the gaggle of kiddos sit, chat, and play. Coming out swinging is simply not an option in an institution that is bound to the public and forced to cooperate with the media. Harry, of all people, should know that - but he doesn't. He never learned it. There were things that would have worked for both sides that could have been done to show their support and imo it was not done enough, which is a large part of why they left. Meghan deserved better.
I think he could have consulted anyone, really. When I needed help I certainly didn't call my mom, dad, sister, cousins, aunts and uncles... I googled providers until I found one that I liked, and went with that strategy until one stuck. Granted, I know Prince Harry can't just hire any old random on the internet. But he had a therapist and we know for a fact that he was getting some kind of help. They must have been vetted and proven themselves to work with discretion. You're telling me that they had no recommendations? That the only avenue was to ask a 95 year old woman, her 72 year old son, and the company they essentially work for for help for your suicidal, pregnant wife? Or was it that Harry didn't even do the basic level of research that he could and should have done? Used his connections to do what he had to do for his wife who he dragged into this mess to begin with, clearly without preparing her for what it was really like?
I don't think it's right that the institution didn't have the infrastructure or was otherwise unwilling to help but that's a problem to address after every other alternate avenue was pursued to go get it for her. Then they could have made heads roll within the institution if they wanted. The no. 1 priority should have been getting the help at whatever cost and deal with the bullshit later. Instead, he tried one single avenue, got stuck, and got ashamed, and let it fester until they clawed their way out. I cannot and will not understand how it just... stopped after that first roadblock. You keep going until you find something and then you deal with everything after. The priority should have been the help, not the revenge. And I will never understand why Harry, who very clearly loves his wife more than anything and everything, didn't make sure that happened. I will never understand it.
