This Valentine's Day, in spite of recently writing all about how I'm not especially focused on Byler these days conceptually, I want to talk about Byler ... but only to clarify that I believe that there is a secret third thing beyond Byler and Mileven, and that this love triangle hasn't ever truly been Byler versus Mileven in the way that most believe it to be, and what we should really be focusing on is the parallels between Will and El. Whatever is going on, I'm convinced that the connection between El's narrative and Will's journey matters a lot more than most think. Thank you and goodnight 😘

I think I've realized why, as a longtime, pre-season 3 Byler theorist (the foreshadowing has been there a while!), I get exasperated when some fans make every single thing about Byler with very little logical reason, even though I fully support the excitement around Byler.
I am so happy for every single fan that looks forward to Byler in season 5. I want you to savor your excitement. I don't want to ruin anyone's fun, I think it's fantastic that we all find different meaning in the little details of both the show and cast interviews.
However. Part of the reason that I appreciate Byler in the first place, is that it's a well developed queer coming of age narrative that exists within a multifaceted, well written sci-fi series. I don't want the entire story to be exclusively about Byler. If I wanted a story centered on a queer couple and that didn't have much else going on in the plot beyond their relationship, I'd be watching something else.
Yes, I'm looking forward to Byler in Stranger Things 5.
At this stage in the series, I don't see Byler as much of a "plot twist" to those who have been paying attention.
I'm looking forward to other, more unexpected plot twists and revelations at this stage in my own conversations and analysis of the story. I want everyone to appreciate the story in their own way, but I do think some folks are missing out on the joys of deeper analysis if they are only seeking to explain how everything they see and hear connects back to Byler and don't actively consider alternative explanations.
Again, please don't feel the need to reel in your excitement. I'm excited too. We all enjoy different parts of the story in different ways. But I look forward to season 5 being a beautiful, complex finale that addresses many questions finally that are not all relevant to Byler. And yes, I very much look forward to Byler too.
