BEGINNING ALTERATION: SPELLCAST OAKFLESH
[IMG ID: A close up view of an oak tree, looking up directly a the trunk as if standing right in front of the bark. The bark is greyed from the cloudy day, and above one can view a few empty branches of the tree.]
Alteration is one of the six schools of magic. Spells in this school change the world around the caster so normal physical truths no longer hold. It is sometimes confused with Illusion magic, as both schools seek to change normal truths. Illusion magic, however, is not bound by the laws of nature but Alteration magic is. The power of Alteration comes from the fact that the nature of its changes applies to all, whereas Illusion magic affects only the caster and the target
I HAVE BEGUN THE PATH OF TES MAGIC IN THIS REALM, under the guidance of Azura and Akatosh’s will. Translating the magic of Nirn unto Earth is both easier and more difficult than expected: destruction magic is very much so a video game mechanic, and other spells such as healing hands cannot be replicated to its in-world efficiency. And still, the daedra and aedra walk among this world, and Aetherius is still within reach. There a level to which it can be understood on this soulful earth—as you can probably tell from the title of the post, I have begun with oakflesh
OAKFLESH IN LORE
improves the caster's armor rating by <mag> points for 60 seconds.
The general idea of Oakflesh is well, to make one’s flesh have the strength of stone. In Nirn it is a novice level spell, with the higher tier versions increasing the toughness of the material. Beyond this, there generally isn’t much lore—it’s meant for mages and the likes to still have an armour rating while casting spells. Even though we all know that stealth archer is the best build in oakflesh’s main region Skyrim, it’s still useful.
USING OAKFLESH IN THIS WORLD
Oakflesh hopefully will not have to be cast before a good sword fight, so instead I have found a pleasant use in it for tasks that run the risk of small injury. Or just existing, my rotting multiple sclerosis makes me rather clumsy.
THE GUIDE TO USING OAKFLESH:
youtube
Feel the magic of Aetherius, the light of the sun, the mortal to all magic. Draw upon it, or your own magic—perhaps magicka?
Summon the shape of the spell, the two geometric symbols and its blue light
Invoke it, charge it, and then release the power over one’s flesh. This should be similar to what most call energy work.
Optionally, use two hands to strengthen it, just like in game. Follow the motions as shown within the video.
I wish there was more to say, but that is all you can really invoke from such a minor detail of Nirn. I have found it useful when gardening and daily life in order to avoid injury, especially with my dizzy spells and overall clumsiness from my disability. I find that Azura is pleased with such a small step—and I can feel my alteration levelling per say, so one day Stoneflesh will be a possibility for my own magic purposes.

hey
i just learned about the existence of the disability pride flag! i'm not sure whether or not this is common knowledge, but either way i'd like to show you all!
here it is! how pretty!?
brief history and symbolism under the cut:
the flag used to look like this, designed by Ann Magill
from 2019 until 2021, when it was changed to have straight lines and muted colors. (this change was made to accommodate people with visually triggering disabilities)
the diagonal orientation of the stripes represent cutting across barriers that separate disabled people from society. the colors all have different meanings as well:
green for sensory disabilities, like Autism Spectrum Disorder, Blindness and Low Vision, Deafness and Loss of Hearing, and Sensory Processing Disorder
blue for psychiatric disabilities, for example, anxiety, bipolar disorder, clinical depression, ADHD, OCD, and many more
White for invisible disorders, such as chronic pain, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, or chronic fatigue syndrome. White is also for undiagnosed disablilties.
Gold is for neurodivergence, which includes ADHD, autism, dyspraxia, dyscaucula, dyslexia, and a whole lot more.
Finally, Red is for physical disibilities, which includes things like amputation or loss of limbs, arthritis, epilepsy, cereberal palsy, or cystic fibrosis

“Oh yeah, yeah… arrived just for you guys.”

“Uhh, I-I don’t even know where to start with you. I mean, do you have any idea who you’re talking to?”

“If you showed these cards to my 11-year-old self, I would have lost my marbles.”

“Teeth. Contact with aluminum foil. DEATH.”
“My scientific conclusion? You suffer-“

TOS: Space Seed
This episode is a certified classic for a reason, and Khan came back in the movies for the same reason. He's awesome and a fascinating, well written character. The plot goes at a good clip and also provides good moments between the characters.
The cold open has an earth ship from gasp THE 1990S! THE DISTANT FUTURE! I wish. The historian shows up and Kirk complains that she's been useless for the entire mission. I was a little confused at first, but later it turns out she's so horny for being a tradwife to some conqueror that she can't freakin do anything, so he gets a pass on this one.
They beam over with a more reasonably sized away team and pick up Khan and some other frozen people. they wake him up in sickbay, and he stretches in a stupid way and threatens Bones. He is completely unfazed by Khan's threats, acting like a total badass.
The dinner scene has some really good dialogue, with Spock provoking Khan being especially well done. Khan has some really good characterization later on too, annoyed by McGivers' indecision in sharp contrast to his normal take-what-he-wants approach. Given that I watched his movie a full ten years prior to the episode, I really didn't expect the heavy emphasis on him being like the rulers of old, and its definitely more nuanced than other villains.
Khan takes over the ship too easily, and locks Kirk up in some chamber that does something. McGivers frees him because she wasnt expecting THAT to happen, and agrees to go with Khan and his crew to Ceti Alpha V. I was surprised that Khan leaves on relatively good terms with Kirk.
One thing to note is that the only reason Madlyn Rhue did not appear as McGivers in The Wrath of Khan is because she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and reportedly had to use a cane, then crutches, and finally a wheelchair. She died at only 63. Her character was given a nod in the final movie by mentioning that Khan's wife died in the harsh conditions of Ceti Alpha V after its orbit was altered.
Nitpicks: I was a little confused by the fact that McGivers instantly identified Khan as a Sikh given that he was clean-shaven and didn't have any other such religious symbols. Probably just a case of 1960s writers not knowing what Sikhism is.

He asked me after breakfast if I wanted to get high so I told him I have a heart condition and I can't ever smoke or I get stressed out and just wrong
If it's cannabinoids like tinctures in my coffee then that's better but smoke and I freak out real bad get really bad anxiety
Stop telling the difference between good and bad
I think it's multiple sclerosis I was largely raised on federal rations and I met this Chickasaw woman who told me she is non pork and she to smoke in maturation had I guess like pretty elaborate ideas around laying around high about maturation
I have tried to make sense of differential doctors psoriasis heart condition hip sprain head trauma vitamin deficiency and I think that's multiple sclerosis my nerve protection isn't so good and I get really really stressed out
I think it's sort of like Dresden files
They maybe have threatened to experiment on my sister again
And I was trying these aboriginal symbols in Temecula
And I've found myself surrounded by these slightly criminal drug dealing characters but their mostly pretty normal and I think I'm here to help them research them for wealth purposes instead of that scary psychiatrist
I told one man at showers get state 🆔 just go get is a pretty white racist thing to say to others.....and I believe in a drunks history Harriet Tubman.....my white ass does not understand going in to some of their privileged psychedelic separatism and I think there is a black super hero that shows me a few things on my heroines quest but
And then I went to publix to do the outside civil sit for inclusion and the white racist eventually appeared to stare out over his crowd of jobs and to proclaim judgementally my inferior go get to his thievery so when they will publicly confess who they are it appears there are public punishments
I think it's the same man that has to then do the landscaping terrorism himself so
My Australia trans media class told me about the car terrorists that all those famous music artists killed themselves of heroin overdoses in like a year Janis Joplin all those annoying claimed to be good and Thomas Kuhn I think their world was really bombed and they made money in need
They made a lot of money in crisis
My joy needs good good care takers so apparently no fight is needed if I'm expected to implode it will
I didn't like the veterans at the Jewish respite their neat black pants and wild feminine long hair didn't really make me desire inclusion to leave the riot and to leave the riot I do have to find something militaristic to include me
They were so neat and correct but something about them was very immorally selfish and willing to cause chaos to accomplish reasons for restraints that I was like no no thank you
I think it's that my room shares had cervical issues till they were caused very farty symptoms and the veterans coming and going kept trapping me in there with her
So I think that caused my disapproval.....she had cervical issues that would suggest psychiatric intervention wasn't correct but then the veterans very quiet to us
I think a birth control pill till she could stop harming herself would have better stabilized her moods
I am pro life by being pro choice...I don't like the pap smear but when I think about her culture maybe choosing niche cooking the smoke though does have toxic elements a buddy and a pap smear cervical check would better mood her to

Not gonna lie, seeing that the French government is looking into making cuts in financing the healthcare around ALD (a list of 30 pathologies including most cancers but not all, diabetes, HIV, multiple sclerosis etc., whose treatment and medical care are paid at 100% by public healthcare) make my blood boil.
Already people suffering from those pathologies are paying “la franchise” on medication (a symbolic sum of money on medication because apparently otherwise people would take medication for fun, including cancer patient I guess), but acting as if taking care, as a society, of people with pathologies whose consequences, if left untreated, are horrifying is downright undignified.
7th biggest world economy in the world, can’t pay for your cancer treatment sorry! (but you should be able to do that on your own!). Our legislators just increased their monthly stipend btw.
Obscene!

[Image description: A watercolour picture of my Homestuck fan-troll Deo in her room. She is kneeling on her bed and using a screwdriver to fix a scanning device on her lap. She has long black hair in a loose ponytail and is wearing a T-shirt with an alien on it and flower-patterned leggings. Her bedsheet is pattered with stars and constellations and her pillow has rockets, UFOs, planets and galaxies on it. There are books about conspiracies and cyptids on the floor, as well as several snake and lizard plush toys, a toy alien, a Bill Cipher doll, a sickle and a multi-lens magnifying glass. There are glass tanks containing pet snakes on a table, an old computer with computer chair, a wheelchair and a potted plant lined up against the wall. The walls are covered in posters of troll versions of British sitcoms, an 'I Want to Believe' poster with a UFO on it, a 'Mothman Sighting Zone' poster, a Gravity Falls poster and a poster with a crescent moon and eye symbol that says 'Don't Trust Anyone'. There are small pyramid-shaped terrariums containing plants hanging from the ceiling and police caution tape with alien symbols on it strewn around the room.]
I did a watercolour picture of my Homestuck fan character Deo and her respiteblock. She lives on a livestock farm in the idyllic countryside and cultivates many interests in between running the farm.
Her main interest is investigating conspiracy theories, cryptids, aliens and urban legends with various homemade devices, like the one she's spent all night working on here. She has books about the Lunacracy and other pseudoscientific subjects, as well as posters and her old computer, which she only uses to monitor conspiracy forums because she's not good with computers. She's into aliens the most because she often feels alien compared to her friends, and also because she's been a keen astronomer since she was a kid.
Her bed is space themed and is more for sitting or laying on when she's working because she sleeps in a recuperacoon like most trolls. Working here is better for her than working at a desk, since she has multiple sclerosis and can't sit up or balance when she has flare-ups. The wheelchair in the corner is also for when she can't walk because of a flare-up. It was decorated by one of her friends with spray paint and plastic wheat and poppies.
Her other big interest is herpetology, studying and caring for reptiles and amphibians. She has a lot of pet snakes, lizards and frogs in glass tanks and has many stim toys based on them, which were made by Vistie, who is a seamstress. Deo also has succulents and other houseplants, some in glass terrariums hanging from the ceiling and some dotted around the house.
Because she's a farmer, she likes a lot of rural sitcoms and has posters of them on her wall. I basically picked every rural British sitcom I could think of and made troll versions. From left to right: The Vicar of Dibley - The Subjugglator of Dibley, Last of the Summer Wine - Last of the Solar Sweeps Wine, and All Creatures Great and Small - All Lusii Great and Terrifying. She also likes the troll version of Gravity Falls, because it's a very cryptid and conspiracy themed show. Also on her wall and scattered around her bedroom is the troll version of police caution tape (drone tape?), which she collects from crime scenes as a 'fuck you' to authority and cover-ups. It was meant to say 'CAUTION, DRONE. DO NOT CROSS' but I might have fucked up on drawing some of the letters.
As a side note, my troll OCs are based on Greek gods. Deo is based on Demeter, the goddess of agriculture, which is why Deo is a farmer. Her interest in conspiracy theories is sort of a loose interpretation of Demeter being associated with the Eleusinian Mysteries, an ancient cult with secret rites, based around the myth of Persephone's abduction by Hades and Demeter's search for her daughter. Her interest in snakes and reptiles is based on Demeter's chariot being drawn by winged serpents and her turning a rude boy into a gecko once. These themes will end up being present throughout her session.
Medium: Watercolour pens on paper.

Born on this day: feral and perverse raspy-voiced frontwoman of Australian post-punk band Divinyls, Christina Amphlett (née Christine Joy Amphlett, 25 October 1959 – 21 April 2013). This shot (by Donna Santisi) captures early wild child Amphlett at her most scary and exhilarating mid-performance at Club Lingerie in Los Angeles in 1983 (the same year Divinyls’ debut album Desperate was released). A Divinyls profile in CREEM magazine described how onstage Amphlett “would, at some points, spin across the floor in a pogo-ing danse macabre of the disenfranchised” and “smear lipstick across her body in a defiant symbol of anti-conformity” (whirling dervish / she-devil Amphlett sometimes looked bloodied, as if she’d just crawled wounded from the wreckage of a car crash). In her warts-and-all 2005 memoirs Pleasure and Pain: My Life, Amphlett recalled that when touring the US, audiences would find her performances so jarring and unpleasant they would frequently recoil in horror. You can see why Jim Farber of Rolling Stone would summarize her demonically possessed St Trinian’s girl persona as “all four Shangri-Las rolled into one – with a snatch of pre-exorcised Linda Blair tossed in.” Amphlett died far too young from a combination of Multiple Sclerosis and breast cancer.
