One thing that seems uniquely Wiscosin is how hyped everyone gets in the spring when the sturgeon spawning run starts. Like everyone flocks to specific points along the main rivers to watch these funky lake dinosaurs get it on.

#personal #like its a family event. people bring their kids to show them nature at work.#but also. the local officials will post gaurds at various spawning points because sturgeon spawn along the rocky edges of the river #and people will and do crawl down the riverbank to pet those funky dinosaurs as they get their freak on #like i have vivid memories as a kid at the Shiocton spawn area of my dad helping me crawl down the rocks and having me pet some of them #this is a normal thing here and by jove ita hilarious when you really think about it #though it is cool when theyre by the dams because then they do the dramatic leaps in the air like salmon do going up river #ahhh that wisconsin life #i know some other states have lake surgeon too but ive never seen the spawning season hyped up like it is here loool #just part of living by the great lakes #midwest life is great

Honestly, as much as a love the Gilded Age and glitz glamor of the wealth it shows...what has really caught my attention is the plotline unions and mills

I am once again starting my campaign for Hollywood to create a mini series based on the Progressive era

And I want it as dark, gritty, a realistic as possible.

#my life-long obsession has been the progressive era #so many good things occurred but so many people and populations were left out of the conversation/legal changes #I truly think the progressive era was top 5 most important times in American social and legal history #probs only next to the Civil War and the Great Depression #Civil Rights movement and the 1970s movements which were inspired by the civil rights moment #HBO honestly would be able to do this imo #they did a great job with this and with John Adams #I'd love to see it set in the Midwest #like in Detroit or Chicago #the gilded age #historical drama #historical drama tv #hbo #the progressive era #not hetalia #american history #pro union

1. Are you named after anyone?

technically yes… i’m named after a character in a book but my mom has never been able to remember what book 🫡

2. When was the last time you cried?

i don’t usually log frequent crier miles but i definitely cried in december (??) watching the music video for “amelia” for a variety of reasons

3. Do you have kids?

nope! i do refer to my students as my kids sometimes on accident and have freaked out more than one person by saying “my kids” lmao

4. What sports do you play/have played?

currently i play rugby, although i grew up playing a lot of sports—i did volleyball, basketball, track, and danced competitively (which is probably the sport i miss the most)

5. Do you use sarcasm?

me? using sarcasm? never :) here i usually don’t because it doesn’t come across the same over text and irl it’s usually just with people i’m comfortable with and know will get it

6. What is the first thing you notice about someone?

oooo outfit maybe? voice? context dependent for sure

7. What’s your eye color?

legally, hazel. illegally, whatever color the nearest person to me says that they are at the time

reading, although i never have as much time to read as i want to (send me book recs please)… i count sports as a hobby and i just got a really pretty new puzzle! also, obviously, hockey.

yes!!! i have a canary and a society finch (orville and duncan), a hypo corn snake (apollo! he has hearts on his head!), and two cats (john watson and effie). in the future i’d love to have a dog again, since i just lost him this past summer

real hot girls speak german 💅 it’s either that or biology but i feel like that’s little bit of a cop out

re: the cop out above, dream job is working as a veterinarian for a zoo! so it makes sense i love biology lol

ok while we are at it again!!! People here are bad at making bread!!! It's not that hard to make very basic bread!! it's ok to cheat with quick rise yeast or make milk bread. But everyone here is adding sugar to bread!! not pumpkin bread or like a sweet bread. i mean like sandwich bread. sandwich/savory bread should taste good on its own or with butter! you dont need to add sugar if you do it right!!!

also it's OK to stop putting random shit in your pasta salads!!! Some veggies and spices wont hurt you!!! stop adding jello and marshmellows to savory things!!!

#adventures trying food on the great plains like.....you people cant cook #went to a bbq and bonfire with coworkers and everyone loved the food and it was the worst potluck food ive had in my life #step up ur cooking game #i thought my nan made bland food but at least she uses like salt bay leaf pepper paprika etc in everything #i think i just dont like midwest food
