Aand that's a wrap! Again, a huuuge thank you for everyone who's interacted with this au-thingy-turned-comic, from likes to all the kind comments and tags, you are what made me want to add on and on to this thing❣️ And for old times' sake (as if I didn't start this like a month ago but it feels much longer) there's some rambles (and a surprise!) under the cut!

I gotta say I will miss drawing them and we'll see if any of the human realm drama ever gets solved. You gotta make up your own ending for that, unless I get back into it, no promises tho. ;) Mostly I feel bad for this au's Xichen,🙈poor guy. Though of course Wangji wouldn't just fuck off forever without telling him where he is, and maybe seeing his own little brother in this form will force him to reconsider his biases. For now wangxian are living their best life with A-Yuan and the rest of the Wens somewhere deep in the ocean.

Merxian who tries to court dragonji by bringing him fish, caught in his jaws. He’s got a big smile on his face, surely this big of a fish will make lwj his husband!

wwx: Mhmm! For gege!

lwj: You want some?

wwx: Please. 🥺

They’re definitely mates now that the dragon has accepted his fish. Merxian is so happy, especially when lwj cooks the fish for them and merxian can eat his husbands delicious cooking! Merxian wishes he knew how to speak the human tongue better so he could give many more compliments to his mate.

wwx: yummy!!

lwj: You liked it?

wwx: Mhm! Husband is good!

lwj freezes, his jaw dropping open by an inch in shock.

lwj: Husband…?

wwx: My husband! 😍😘🥰

lwj: …Then what are you?

Merji would like to reiterate that even though he is now in luxurious color, he is only sunbathing for fun and for health reasons and definitely not to catch the attention of that handsome fisherman that keeps showing up around here absolutely not and he would appreciate it if you would stop spreading such baseless gossip because he is absolutely 100% only here to kiss a fisherm--- I mean sunbathe for fun and for health and that's it. That's the only reason. For real. So please stop looking at him that way. Because the only person he wants to look at him is that fisherma--- the sun. with its glowing rays of warmth and love and definitely not the eyes of that fisherman who he does not know and has never even noticed before why do you keep bringing him up?????

to explain tho these are the lan wangji designs for the two mermay au's cuz i have a bunch of little prompts to write and wanted some better mental visuals so i really wanted to do some designs haha- they're from the same worlds but the only difference is he's human in one and not in the other so i can get more creative with prompts. if i need to i might create a human counterpart for merji later but i dont think i need one yet.

i wanted to draw Traveler LWJ with merxian but i got too tired (i'm also supposed to be up by 1 and its past 9 am now i'm gonna die)

i couldn't get quite happy with merji but ehhhh? i think its just not my fav sketch. i dont dislike the design i think i just dont like the way i drew him (mainly his hair it's always his hair lmao)

but anyway i made two au's for all those mermay prompts-- the merji one has no development and its only aesthetic so maybe i'll get ideas after writing some about it. i wanna do some loose coloring for it before i do write any of them but for now this is enough for the first one i wanna write later lol

I had a dream this morning that went like this:

Mermaid Wangxian finds human baby A Yuan one day, alone and frightened and clinging to some of the rubble that is all that remains of the ship he was traveling on with his parents.

Wangxian can't just leave the baby to his fate and rescues him. But once they get to land they realize their next problem. A Yuan can't go alone to find his remaining family and Wangxian can't go up on land to search for them. They certainly don't trust any of the human adults enough to get their help.

Wei Ying and Lan Zhan look at each other and decide they have a child now.

They bring A Yuan to a small, secluded island and build him a small house there. They hunt food for him in the ocean and weave clothes out of their own hair. Whatever else their child needs they take from shipwrecks or steal from humans.

They're a loving little interspecies family.

He fills his lungs with the stinging wind and weaves a song of suggestion. It brews like a storm in his core as he sings a fever of wanderlust. He has no desire to do harm if he can avoid it, but he cannot and will not permit a human to live within his territory. Never again.

Every day, when Wei Wuxian arrives, a plate of food sits waiting for him. Each time, he sniffs the offering carefully for sedatives or poisons. Each time, the fear in his heart unwinds a little further as he detects nothing but deliciously prepared meals.

They are properly into spring the first time he finds Lan Zhan sitting on the dock with two bowls in his lap.

Wei Wuxian swims around the man’s feet, eyeing him for a long minute. As ever, the farmer’s face gives away nothing. Wei Wuxian hauls himself onto the dock, uncaring of the water he splashes.

Lan Zhan holds the bowls safely away and gives a disapproving look. “The stew is better without river water.”

“Oh? But don’t you know all my food is flavored with river water?” He bats his eyelashes, giving the innocent look that made his mother pinch his nose.

Lan Zhan huffs and offers one bowl to him.

Wei Wuxian takes it and breathes in the rich, savory broth. No poison. He takes a sip and lets the flavor soak on his tongue. It’s delicious, but he’s noticed a pattern by now. “Not a fan of spice, are you?”

“An allergy,” Lan Zhan admits, his ears pinking.

Wei Wuxian lifts a finger and brushes the pink skin, making Lan Zhan startle. “Embarrassed?”

“There is no need to feel shame over that which I cannot control.”

“Well said.” Wei Wuxian drinks more of the stew, happily chewing through the vegetables and the small bits of meat. “My mother used to say something similar.”

Summary:

“Jiaoren,” the man breathes, his voice soft and his golden eyes wide. Those strange eyes dart over Wei Wuxian’s sharp ears and nails before lingering on the bloody red of his tail.

“Human,” Wei Wuxian sneers. “You should have fled when you had the chance.”

When he wakes from his winter sleep, Wei Wuxian attempts to drive a farmer from his territory. He falls in love, instead. Lan Zhan's mysterious past does not do them the courtesy of staying buried.
