BSD MEN AND MBTI TYPES [+ their darlings]

So, I’m not sure how many are aware of what MBTI is, but I got a few requests on making an analysis about this for BSD MEN and incorporating their ideal type! darlings’ MBTI types as well, so I did. (I kind of promised that I would do it, so now is the time.)❤️

I want you to know, it wasn’t intentional to place one type as the ideal match for multiple characters. I thought it through thoroughly and did my best to remain as logical and diverse in MBTI types as possible. It’s just that strong Fe users are often a good match for broken people and…well…BSD men are mostly broken.

- ESFP -

An in-depth analysis of an idol's MBTI type. Based on my opinion and observations, may change later. Not an expert.

ESFP (Se - Fi - Te - Ni)

Dom: Se (Extroverted Sensing)

A perceiving function that uses our 5 senses to process the external world.

Wooyoung is always aware of the present moment, quick to react and to take action. He also pays attention to physical things such as aesthetics, the visuals of the performance, the way he looks, etc physical appearances matter a lot to him.

He enjoys photography and videography, which are pretty good activities for Se - it allows him to use his senses to make visually stimulating images and videos. Physically engaging activities seem like the best way to energize him e.g cooking and riding a bike. Cooking is great for his Se as it engages with all his senses - all the movement in cooking, tasting the foods, the aromas, watching the food cook, plating, maybe he enjoys hearing the sounds of food cooking as well and/or the way kitchen tools slightly hit each other (e.g knife on a cutting board).

This moment especially was an incredibly Se dom moment. Comparing it to Si user Jongho (Si has to step back and assess first), being the Se dom he is, Woo just went for it.

Aux: Fi (Introverted Feeling)

As Fi wants to be authentic, that is what Wooyoung always strives for - he always wants to express himself well, to be real. He wants people to like him for him. He returns the same gesture with others - he wants to know the real version of others. Wooyoung tries not to make assumptions at first meet since he knows he will not learn everything just from one encounter. He seems very empathetic.

Tert: Te (Extroverted Thinking)

A judging function that uses established facts and systems to make objective, working decisions.

He's quite goal oriented and takes time to plan to achieve these goals, even if it's not the most detailed. Either way, he knows how to get what he wants and works hard to reach his achievements.

Wooyoung lays down the rules as well - Te can be by the book, which Wooyoung can be sometimes. E.g when he was explaining how he found it rude when juniors would not put in the effort to correctly bow down to him and other senior artists. Wooyoung has a strong belief in being humble and kind (Fi) and wants to implement this in everyone.

Inf: Ni (Introverted Intuition)

A perceiving function that uses one's own personal insights and ideas

In his episode of "Fill in the Blank" series, Wooyoung said he wanted to use dance to convey deeper messages and emotions for others. He wants to be a sense of comfort, the light in other's darkness. He has always wanted to make an impact on others from a young age, especially considering how much he values relationships.

Both types use Si - Ne, which I do not see in Wooyoung at all...xSFJ's Fe is understandable, but Wooyoung is sometimes a bit too straightforward and honest to be using Fe in his main stack though lol.

a short analysis of INTJ characters and their trauma

thinkin' bout INTJ anti-heroes and villians and how they always seem to have underlying trauma from their childhoods.

INTJ anti-heroes are some of the most complex, incredible characters, especially when written correctly

oftentimes, many of them have something major that happened while they were younger (ex. abusive parents or bullying) and it seems to manifest in them in an interesting way. us INTJs prefer to ignore and repress our emotions, but obviously, trauma doesn't listen to that.

a lot of INTJ characters become numb to emotion because of the trauma they experienced. they become dissociated and eager to forget their pasts. but part of trauma is confronting and moving on from what happened in the past by gaining closure, not denying, ignoring and pushing it away entirely. so, no, INTJs are not emotionless creatures. we just typically deal with emotional issues in different (sometimes unhealthy) ways.

yet other characters (typically the INTJ villians we see in media) get stuck in an Ni-Fi loop. they bypass their rational decision making (Te aux) when making decisions. they wallow in their emotions and lose all touch with the outside world and reality. they're dissociated and eager to forget their pasts, but in a different way. they turn to violence and want revenge.

i see people argue that a very obvious INTJ character "has to be an INFJ (or INFP), because they cried about their trauma!" no, for one thing, that's not how MBTI works (see: cognitive functions and the Te/Fi axis vs. the Fe/Ti axis), and that's not how people work.

on another note, often, a main part of an INTJ character's arc is overcoming their trauma. it is such a recurring theme that i just bet on it happening sometime in the book/movie whenever i find an INTJ character.

and, of course, the way characters act in media tend to reflect the way people act in real life.

INTJs are often ridiculed and bullied in their school years because we are different from others. our brains work differently and we don't fit in. people undermine how much trauma bullying and childhood abuse can create, and how we're often not taught the correct ways to deal with it, so we just get stuck carrying it our life.

tl;dr - my two points:

INTJ anti-heroes and villians are some of the most complex and interesting characters to unpack, as they often have some sort of trauma that must be overcame for their arc to be complete

just because an INTJ character shows emotion, it doesn't automatically make them an INFJ

Payal’s Fashion

So I just wanted to share the example that I referenced in yesterday’s post in regards to Payal and Akash.

The scene in question is this:

Payal is clearly panicked about the dress code for the party and asks Akash for his opinion, as he attends these parties regularly and is familiar with the general vibe ( an example of ‘extroverted feeling’ …people with this function care greatly about how they’re perceived in a group and want to fit in). There’s absolutely nothing wrong about Payal wanting to fit in!

It’s actually portrayed as a positive when Akash reminds her that regardless of what she wears she will be the best looking girl in the party, don’t get me wrong this is very sweet and I appreciate Akash not caring much for appearances (an example of his ‘introverted feeling’ ..people with this function care about individualism and don’t conform to societal norms, valuing authenticity over the group hive mentality). However, despite the advice being very cute, it’s not exactly what Payal needs from him in the moment, I think she would have preferred him choosing something for her. It also goes to show how preoccupied Akash is as a character (an INFP trait), he doesn’t really catch how significant it is for Payal to blend in.

And boy, did the costume department do Payal dirty at the party ….yikes!

Dont get me wrong, Payal aka Deepali is absolutely stunning, a real underrated beauty! But this whole outfit is NOT it!

She’s literally dressed like she’s a 50 year old woman attending a wedding, this whole outfit is very dated! (Esp all the jewellery). I think it’s rather unfair we never got to see a Payal glow up moment because this girl is a real stunner but outfit aside, I felt really bad for Payal feeling so out of place, despite trying so hard to fit in. I think Akash should have stepped in and helped her out with her outfit.

Imagine if she took a note out of Khushi’s book and wore something similar to iconic red saree, or the blue Desi girl saree?! She would have stolen the show! (I know the purpose of this entire scene was to show how out of place Payal feels within Akash’s lifestyle but I think maybe if we saw an eventual glowup that would have been really cool!)

My MBTI is accurate for me and a lot of people I know, so I wanted to do König's. The MBTI is a personality assessment based on the following traits: introvert/extrovert, sensing/intuition, thinking/feeling, and judging/perceiving. you can take a test to see which traits you fit (I like this one) for example, I'm INTJ: introvert, intuition, thinking, and judging. see here for more detailed info (I take quotes from this source throughout the post)

I think König's MBTI is...ISTJ (more details at end of post)

Introvert is obvious, we all know könig prefers to be alone. it's never explicitly stated, but heavily implied based off his bio about being bullied and misunderstood. he also wears a sniper hood all the time. mans is not social

Sensing may be less obvious, but this is what it is: "People who prefer sensing tend to pay a great deal of attention to reality, particularly to what they can learn from their own senses. They tend to focus on facts and details and enjoy getting hands-on experience." I think this makes the most sense for konig. as someone who has been bullied and needs to be hyper alert to stay alive at work, sensing makes much more sense for him than intuition. konig doesn't seem like someone who has much intuition, or even trusts in such things. Being Austrian, konig is also likely very practical and to the point, so he wouldn't have any need or place value in an intangible thing like intuition.

Thinking is obvious for konig, I think. I'm not saying konig doesn't have emotions of course, but he doesn't seem like the type of person to live by his heart. Again likely a cultural difference, Konig would be practical and value facts over feelings. About people who are thinking: "They tend to be consistent, logical, and impersonal when weighing a decision." Also as a mercenary, there isn't any room for emotionally-charged decisions. Konig is for sure a thinker. I don't think a feeler would do well as a mercenary personally.

Judging suits konig better than perceiving: "Those who lean toward judging prefer structure and firm decisions." Of course konig values structure, he went into the military when he was 17! This is also another cultural thing most likely, since Austrians tend to be very formal and respect hierarchy. I'm not saying every Austrian is like this, but you get me. Also as a mercenary, konig must make firm decisions, unlike perceivers who "lean toward perceiving are more open, flexible, and adaptable." I don't think konig is the type of guy to sit down and have a democratic discussion. it's his way or the highway and you can't change my mind (unless it's coming from a higher-ranking officer). konig knows he's damn good at what he does, and he's going to make the best decisions for the team. listen to his voice dialogues, he's constantly telling people that it's "better off in my hands" or to give something to him for safe keeping. if you want something done right, do it yourself, is likely his motto

Starlo's personality (in-depth)

Okay, this one took a LOT of thinking to decide on. Mainly because we see Starlo 100% in his persona for the majority of the time we spend with him. But now, I think I've had my boy figured out.

For a while now, I thought that he's either an ENTP or an ESTP with well-developed Fe, but eventually realized I had been looking at the image he put on, not the real him.

But before dwelling deeper into what his way of thinking actually is, I'd like to discuss why I don't think he's either ENTP or ESTP.

For ESTP, it's more obvious. Starlo… doesn't use Se at all, let alone as his dominant function. He lives in fantasy. He can come up with goofy ideas, and doesn't pay much attention to the "real world" (tries to escape from the real world instead)

Starlo only pretends to be this 'tough guy,' his recklessness (I always call it carelessness) is part of the persona. And while I do think some part of him enjoys the fake adventures, it's mostly for show, to lift himself and others around him up, particularly Ceroba, and to feel like someone else.

Now... the conclusion I came to was that Star had both Ne and Fe somewhere. The only question I had to ask myself was the order of these functions. In other words, is he dominant Ne/tertiary Fe or dominant Fe/tertiary Ne

The most important question here is: "What is his main motivation?"

Starlo cares a whole bunch about everyone around him. I feel like I've spoken about this so many times already, but he really is the 'papa bear' of the whole group. He makes sure to remind Mooch how they're not bandits, he gave the Four their own nap time, he organizes events, and overall tries to make the Wild East a comfortable place for everyone. Starlo really, REALLY wants to see everyone get along well with each other, and when that doesn't happen... he's deeply bothered by it.

he hates it when there's no harmony and good vibes

Put bluntly, Starlo wants to contribute to his community. He most definitely thought something like this: "If I'm just a farmer, then I can't do anything to help myself feel less worthless, and I can't help other monsters have more hope, either. So, the only thing left for me to do is change most of my personality and be more 'flashy' and 'cool."

Sure, he comes up with creative ideas, but it isn't his main motivation or how he normally acts when he's not 'North Star'. Being all 'extravagent' is the dominant trait of the character Starlo plays (and personally, I think it is a part of Starlo himself, the part he's too afraid to let out if he's his true nerdy self, without the costume and badge and all)

ESFJ: thinks in terms of group dynamics, motivates others to get things done, makes decisions that benefit the largest number of people, natural ability to process and deal with their feelings. On the negative side, they can place so much emphasis on social dynamics / emotions that they find it hard to step back and analyze their motives and feelings; thus they can lack self-understanding and/or pressure others into social norms. They use their Ne to brainstorm and for humor purposes; often to entertain others, to think up solutions, and to hypothesize, but their natural ability is not competently and accurately reading between the lines.

I'd like to break this down carefully because, holy hell, this is Starlo from A to Z

thinks in terms of group dynamics/makes decisions that benefit the largest number of people - clear as day, that's why he has his posse (although I think this trait of his was underdeveloped during the events of UTY as Star probably made most of the decisions himself without asking the others)

motivates others to get things done

pressure others into social norms - technically his own social norms, also the dress conditions he never used to overlook (I also heard ESFJs have style and care about how they appear to others, ENTPs don't; but maybe this is generalization)

find it hard to step back and analyze their motives and feelings - Star turns to the outside world instead, not inwards at all. That's what makes him an extrovert, NOT because he's friendly and social (although he is)

They use their Ne to brainstorm and for humor purposes; often to entertain others - when I read ENTERTAIN OTHERS it all became clear to me

their natural ability is not competently and accurately reading between the lines - he can't even do it and has to directly ask ⬇️

Extra thoughts

What I've also heard about the ESFJ type is that they really REALLY care about their social status/standing when unhealthy, which Star 120% did

It might seem weird that he's a sensor while also being super creative and into ideas, but that's his high tertiary Ne speaking (no wonder it's so high when he's been using it for years)

ESFJs are super charming too, but in a less 'agressive' way like ESTPs (I thought about Dina and Mo, I think they both share this type), or 'witty' way like ENTPs (Sans comes to mind). In others words, Starlo is the 'sweet nerd' kind of charming

ESFJs are bad at dealing with criticism

Can become workaholics (ESTPs and ENTPs are more procastinators; again, I don't mean to generalize)

They're clumsy, too (because of the tertiary Ne; unlike ESTPs, who are grounded in reality and most often aren't clumsy thanks to the dominant Se)

Popular people in leadership positions

Excellent planners (I know Star seems like a percieving type, but as I mentioned above, he actually organizes EVERYTHING)

this makes me think Star has a certain routine (judging over percieving)

He remembers little details about things that happened last month (in the past), making me think of his auxiliary Si (and he also remembers what Ed had said about Clover "being the problem")

So, what makes Starlo inferior Ti? The guy refuses to go inwards to solve his problems. He doesn't think that the most logical solution to the 'whole gang splitting up' situation is a simple apology, and is extremely self critical. Ti has the potential to disrupt or shatter one’s ego-image. Therefore, unhealthy or immature Fe-doms do their utmost to reject Ti in order to protect their ego-image. What this means for Starlo is that he wants to protect his persona in favor of what makes sense for him to do.

Fe will use Ti to construct “rational” explanations to confirm poor judgments about people or relationships. In other words, Fe will develop a maladaptive tendency to misinterpret people’s intentions, see ulterior motives that do not exist, or project their own personal issues onto others. Starlo "logically" thinks that everything was Clover's fault, he's projecting his own insecurities into this situation (playing the victim) and twisting Ed's words (who meant to say that Starlo's favorism OF Clover is the problem, not Clover themself)

Not objective, but Starlo and Clover LOOK to me like the types I gave them (based on the offical trailers AND how Martlet describes them, that kid has this kind of a cute/warm/naive expression, I don't even know how to explain this but I'm throwing it in anyway 😅)

Then there's Starlo

I know the 'North Star' part of him probably wouldn't wanna hear this, but without the persona, Starlo looks and is... pretty normal. No flashiness, no overwhelming charm (it's still there, just more 'humble' & as Ed said, he can make his own fun in the little things). As much as Star might think otherwise thanks to those insecurities, this doesn't mean he ain't special, we all know he is

Everyone keeps saying Anthony Lockwood is an ENFJ not an ENTJ because he is empathetic, emotionally supportive, sweet, constantly caring... But HEAR ME OUT, Anthony Lockwood is DEFINITELY an ENTJ!!!📣

Generally, ENTJ is described as "Decisive, Strategic, Organized, Energetic, Articulate", which is the perfect description for Anthony Lockwood.

To be more specific, we can look into the 2 functions that separate an ENTJ and an ENFJ:

📍1. Te as primary function:

📍Lockwood makes it quite clear that he cares about efficiency the most. That's why he left for the case before George finishes his research and is complained repeatedly by George because of how he does everything so fast, without enough preparation.

📍Lockwood is relentless, achievement-oriented, action-oriented, and is described as the exact opposite to George, an INTP (we all know that ENTJ and INTP have the exact opposite functions).

ENTJ: Te, Ni, Se, Fi

INTP: Ti, Ne, Si, Fe

Lockwood doesn't care about exploring and figuring out how things work, what causes the Problem,... He just wants to focus on the next goal, get work done in the most efficient way, wants to achieve, to make Lockwood & Co. become the best agency and so on. He is impatient with what he perceives as inefficient, which is spending a lot of time on preparing and researching like George always does. His Te primary function is obvious when compared with George's Ti primary function.

📍However, this doesn't mean he doesn't care about others' well being and feelings. You all need to stop saying Lockwood is an ENFJ because he has golden retriever energy, he is sweet and caring, etc... WHY CAN'T AN ENTJ BE EMPATHETIC, ENCOURAGING AND SWEET? An ENTJ is so much more than those harsh, controlling freak ENTJ stereotypes. Have you seen Gordon Ramsay, an ENTJ, spending time with kids and his own daughters? He's also really sweet, supportive and encouraging when the kids make mistake and stressed out.

Having said that, it doesn't mean Lockwood isn't being a jerk sometimes. Because of his Te primary function, he ignores Lucy's words to leave her out of public attention and go on to talk about to talent in order to promote his agency. Lockwood also left for the case without waiting for George and his research, leading to their enormous debt, just because of the same reason: his Te primary function.

📍2. Fi as inferior function

📍"Fi is ENTJ's last function. Fi helps them to assess situations to see how things match up to their values and beliefs. They may think of their Fi as their “gut instinct”. It helps them learn to be sensitive to the values and feelings of those around them. It can act as a warning system when they think a decision makes sense logically, but somewhere inside, Fi is the alarm saying it’s a bad idea. However, because Fi is the TeNi’s weakest function, they will often act with the swift decisiveness of Te first, before considering how their actions might affect the feelings of others or taking time to think about whether their decision lines up with their values."

Lockwood risks his life a lot just to build his agency's reputation. He loves dangerous cases as they make the agency famous, and also makes a lot of money to keep the agency working. Though this may sound like the fastest and most efficient way to achieve his goal, it is a bad idea. But since Fi is his weakness, Lockwood couldn't hear that inner voice and just do it anyway.

In the books, when Lockwood is stressed and in a weaker mental state, his Fi inferior function comes out. Then he will start to think about all of this, wonder why he does what he does, and if it aligns with his personal values...

📍We can also compare with ENFJs. ENFJ has Fe as their primary function, which means they rub off with others' emotions, they love to connect with people and they focus heavily on relationships.Lockwood, an ENTJ, on the other hand, is a bit reserved, he keeps personal feelings close to his chest and he DOESN'T connect with other people at all (at first, it takes quite a long time for him to actually open up, and before that, he just stays distant.)

Relationships is actually his WEAKNESS, since Te is his primary function and Fi is his inferior function. Lockwood prioritizes efficiency and task completion over personal relationships and emotional well-being (in both himself and others, but mostly himself), which is a very ENTJ thing to do. He risks his life for dangerous cases because those make the agency more famous, he avoids Lucy's personal questions and refuses to develop his relationships with George and Lucy any furrther at first. Then he grows and learns to open up, becoming a better ENTJ.

ATEEZ Seonghwa MBTI Analysis

- ISFJ -

An in-depth analysis of an idol's MBTI type. Based on my opinion and observations, may change later. Not an expert.

MBTI: ISFJ (Si - Fe - Ti - Ne)

Dom: Si - Introverted Sensing

A perceiving function that relies past experiences and familiarity to process info

Si likes to structure their inner and outer world, hence why Seonghwa likes everything to be clean and organized. Everything has its correct and original place; no need to change it. There was a weekly idol episode where Hwa had to watch ATEEZ clean up their mess and he had the most distraught expression.

In a way, he can be "traditional" and conformative; e.g making sure Wooyoung wouldn't cross the senior/ junior boundary when he was joking with Stray Kids' Changbin. Hwa couldn't even make casual talk with Jessi even though he was allowed to. With Si's sense of traditionalism, it's likely what made him take on a very motherly and caring role for the group. He may be the youngest in his family, but now being the oldest for ATEEZ, he probably felt it made sense to be an older brother for them. After all, older people usually watch and care for younger people.

Also his letter "The Thing called Time" is overwhelmed with Si. The way he mentions his past thoughts and feelings, his experiences and comparing them to the present is very Si. Almost all his choices revolve around others. Learning to cook for the members, cleaning and organizing for them (as well as himself since Si likes routine).

His Si + Fe made him a caretaker of the group. Si + Fe makes him remember even the little things that most people wouldn't think much about, especially since Si tends to be detail oriented (I've also noticed high Si can be a bit sentimental...). E.g being extremely touched by Yunho and Yeosang when they held up him on stage when Hwa injured his rib and even cried about it. Yet it wasn't that big of a deal to Yunho.

He also acted like a counselor when Wooyoung was having his friendship issues with Yeosang and San a couple of years ago. I think the members have said Hwa is the best listener...He genuinely does seem very understanding and considerate, sometimes even asking about members how they're feeling.

In all honesty, I don't see him use it much. Although it is tertiary, a neutral spot, so it's likely why I don't really see it.

Seonghwa is a pretty curious person, always excited by new things. He also seems more comfortable showing more of his goofy, silly side lately. He's not as shy as he used to be.

Shyam Manohar Jha - INFJ 4w3

A very dark INFJ, think Scar from the Lion King or even Hans from Frozen, he’s very manipulative and persuasive. A trait that probably furthered his career as a lawyer, His Dominant Introverted Intuition function (NI) presents itself through his goal oriented mindset, he’s able to visualise what he wants and effectively plan to obtain his goal (very tunnel visioned at times…Khushi must be his, the Raizada wealth must be his etc). He is also very intuitive when it comes to the people around him, he’s one of the one who senses the tension between Khushi and Arnav, he’s the one who questions the legitimacy of their elopement, he also the one who intuitively picks up on Garima’s secret when he senses her nervousness around Dadi. His Extroverted Feeling (Fe) aids his manipulative tendencies; he’s a chameleon who can play the hero, he knows what people want to hear and can easily switch on the nice guy persona. He is very liked and respected by everyone around him; he easily charms Buaji and the rest of the Gupta family (note: Shashi being a good INFJ is the only one to see through his act, they both share the same MBTI type but Shyam is the evil manifestation). It’s his Fe that allows him to further manipulate Arnav when it’s revealed that he’s been involved with Khushi, easily twisting the truth and narrative (which he similarly does during the big reveal, weaponising th truth when all the evidence was pointing in his direction). His tertiary function Introverted thinking (Ti) shows in his meticulous detailed planning, such as stalking Khushi, getting rid of the threats of Shashi, kidnapping Arnav, planting cameras around the house, manipulating Anjali and murdering his own child (I’m sure I’ve missed a great deal of schemes!) however, as Ti isn’t Shyam’s dominant function, a lot of these plans are rather clumsy, ill thought out at times and tend to backfire (for instance, all the times he attempted to murder Anjali) . His inferior Extroverted sensing, is his hedonism, his physical attraction to Khushi, his love for luxury are his doom. When under pressure, he acts incredibly impulsively and this is what lead to his final downfall, when he eventually snaps and reveals his true nature.

Anjali Jha- ENFJ 2w1

Anjali is the kindest person in the Raizada clan (and perhaps the kindest character in the show), the most warm hearted and welcoming, she cares deeply for others emotions and is very accommodating. Other peoples emotions effect her greatly and she does everything to keep the unity within the family, if Arnav is the anchor of the family, Anjali is the heart, she’s also very emotive and animated when communicating. (Extroverted Feeling, Fe). Anjali isn’t credited for her intuitive abilities but she notices the potential relationship budding between Arnav and Khushi, and on many occasions she displays a deep insight of the emotional plight of the people around her (particularly Arnav’s moods) ; the scene she rightly calls out Arnav for sending Khushi to the guesthouse comes to mind “I can see you’ve placed your rude Arnav Singh Raizada mask on, to incite fear, however I can see my chote behind this mask’’ (Fe-NI) . Anjali is is very superstitious, overanalysing every potential omen such as when her mangalsutra breaks, she has a tendency to become obsessive over such things and negative future implications (Intorverted Intuition, Ni) Her attachment to her vision of Shyam blinds her, he’s so greatly infused into her future and dreams she cannot separate her personal vision from the truth. Anjali ultimately is a character who can see great potential around everyone around her, she sees potential in Khushi from the first time they meet (hence why she’s drawn to her…she sees that Khushi can help Lavanya and then later the potential between Khushi and Arnav’s love), she believes so deeply in the people around them and what they can grow into (Ni). Anjali believes in symbolism, a higher power and the ‘magic of life’ (viewing life through rose-coloured glasses) and she has a strong humanitarian streak as she’s shown always giving to charity, exercising kindness to the less fortunate, holding religious ceremonies and later running an N.G.O (Ni).Although, she’s has a loves celebrations and mischief, Anjali can have trouble noticing changes in her physical environment, she also struggles with standing her ground and can occasionally act recklessly, as seen when she begins secretly seeing Shyam and letting him into the home (Extroverted Sensing). Lastly, Anjali is shown to favour her emotions over facts/logic, she ignores all of Shyam’s inconsistencies and red flags and doesn’t piece his deception together, she was too quick to believe his words. She’stoo heart over head. (inferior Introverted Thinking).

NK - ESFP - 7w6

NK is very present, very alert and in the moment! He’s spontaneous, fun and full of life. He’s very energetic and engaged, especially physically. He notices subtle details in his surroundings like for instance when he is the first to point out that Shyam wears an unusual pendent around his neck, which prompts suspicions, he has no qualms actively involving himself in Khushi’s plan, even if that means snooping around in Shyam’s room. NK intense energy and childlike love for life is easily felt(Extroverted Sensing). NK doesn’t hold a grudge against Khushi after her marriage to Arnav and instead helps her in her investigation, he is a very kind and compassionate individual who again doesn’t need to verbalise his love but shows it through his actions. It’s also noteworthy, than NK has never expressly told Khushi that he likes her more than a friend or show his pain at her elopement, instead keeping his emotions private and guarding his pain, he quietly leaves (Introverted feeling) . He and Khushi work well together, both implementing and contributing to plans when the other struggles during the kidnap track (extroverted thinking …both NK and Khushi have this as their 3rd function and is something they struggle with individually), both NK and Khushi aren’t comfortable with leading and appreciate thinks being blatantly clear. And lastly, NK struggles with his intuition as he relies more on his external physical surroundings for information, however his intuition does flare up when he feels that Khushi is hiding the full extent of her dealings with Shyam during the kidnapping track however doesn’t follow up with the hunch, until it’s blatantly clear what Shyam feels for Khushi, that’s when he properly questions her (Inferior introverted intuition).

Payal Gupta/ Raizada- ISFJ - 6w7

Payal is very traditional, very dutiful and introverted. She has a down to earth quality and easy going nature (note: Arnav also has Si as is dominant function and both he and Payal do have a similar quality, both practical and rather chill..) She is keenly aware of her responsibilities and the expectations of her family. She has a hard time trusting Arnav at first and is hesitant to marry Akash due to the past history. She’s also shown finding it more difficult to assimilate into the Raizada family (compared to Khushi who is more adaptable), she’s uncomfortable at Arnav’s party before Khushi turns it desi, and after marriage is shown multiple times struggling with the change and feeling out of place (Introverted Sensing). Payal is very kind, friendly and compassionate, she is understanding of other people’s pain and forgives easily, her empathy is shown many times in the show, one occasion being the play; she sabotages the talent show so a contestant who needs the prize money could win, she also makes many efforts to appease Akash by trying to change herself for him, in order to fit in and connect more to his lifestyle (Extroverted feeling), it just doesn’t come as naturally to Payal as it does with Khushi because Payal has a more rooted and fixed personality (Introverted Sensing again). Payal is shown to be intelligent and intuitive in many occasions but unfortunately the show doesn’t give Payal much character development or moments to shine, but her initial distrust for Shyam shows evidence of both her last two weaker function also we can see that Payal thrive in the systems that have been pre-established, she understands ‘the rules’ and has no problems living within them. (Introverted thinking ). Payal is more susceptible to introversion, she’s hesitant to leave her comfort zone and struggles to adapt to her new lifestyle (after her marriage) living lavishly is a contradiction to Payal’s reserved nature. (Inferior Extroverted intuition).

Akash Raizada - INFP 2w3

Akash shows strong evidence of Introverted feeling (Fi) , he is polite, soft spoken and kind to the people around him but is also shown to follow his heart, he marries Payal against his mother’s wishes as he fiercely defending his love, Akash also has a rebellious as shown when he secretly meets her on NYE. Akash never influences anyone emotionally, he maintains a quiet respect towards peoples views and feelings for example when he drops Khushi home, he never once judges her for expressing her dislike towards Arnav, instead he simply listens and offers gentle compassion. Negatively, his Fi shows after his marriage, he doesn’t really help accommodate Payal well to his lifestyle and is shown to be self centred at times, for example when Payal is panicked regarding a high end party and worried about the dress code/fitting in (Payal’s Fe), instead of helping her with the dresses; Akash leaves her to her own accord simply stating that she’ll be the best looking regardless of what she wears (his Fi) …this shows that Akash independent and values individualism over fitting in at the expense of Payal’s comfort. His extroverted intuition (Ne) is expressed in his language, he’s very passive and communicates very openly in contrast to someone like Arnav who communicates in commands (Te). He’s very helpful and offers alternative insights, he doesn’t oppose Khushi and can easily see both sides of the coins (A&K). He can easily offer an alternative perspective and offers insightful advice. His friendship with Bubbly also highlights his Ne. Akash’s third function Introverted sensing (Si) is shown in his work ethic and his disconnection to the environment (as it’s a weaker function), he can come across as complacent at times. Akash’s weakest function is Extroverted Thinking (Te), which is why he admires his brother so much (who expresses a very strong Te) he admires Arnav’s leadership skills, efficiency and logic. Akash himself lacks strong leadership skills and finds it difficult to voice commands, he is eager to learn from his brother and blindly follows orders like when Arnav gets Akash to sign the divorce papers, Khushi is disturbed that Akash wouldn’t question his brother ..Akash’s reply is why would he? He respects that his brother values facts and logic over anything, which is a notion he also respects.

Lavanya Kashyap- ESFP 3w4

Lavanya is all about fashion, fun and love! She lives in the present, everything is about the here and now. She loves living lavishly and has a keen sense of her environment, she’s very observant (she refers to Khushi as ‘chamkili’ which is because Khushi visibly wears sparkly clothes) She like NK has intensity, an intensity for living life to the fullest. She loves to party, is diligent and her has strong ambitions that she works for. She’s very good at engaging and motivating Khushi; Khushi experiences so many new things due to La’s pushing (she gets Khushi dressed up, they go to a party etc), La’s not a passive friend, she tries to actively engage Khushi in everything she does (Extrovert sensing, Se). Lavanya is fuelled by her own emotions, she’s not influenced by the outside world and traditions, she’s very happy in having a live in relationship with Arnav despite it being a social taboo. All of La’s attempts in ‘fitting in’ and impressing Nani are because of her love for Arnav, that’s the sole reason and motivator…she’s not genuinely wanting to change (although, later her fondness for Khushi makes the process more enjoyable, and is why she keeps some of the changes not because she cares for society). Once she learns that Arnav loves Khushi, she leaves amicably, she doesn’t blame anyone for their feelings. Instead, she leaves in a dignified manner. Her loyalty to her friendship with Khushi is still strong but her Fi does not allow her to unfairly judge anyone, she feels it’s fair and right to leave without much commotion (Introverted feeling). La has no problem calling people, she’s blunt and straightforward, can easily take up a leadership position. She likes things to be straightforward and clear, and sometimes can be too harsh when under stress (Extroverted thinking, Te) . Her last function is Introverted intuition (Ni), she’s not naturally a deep, philosophical thinker…nor does she think obsess over her future much, as shown when Khushi stresses the importance of marriage and La freaks out because she never thought of the future implications, it also takes her while to sense the bond between Arnav and Khushi (Ni).

Edit : Shashi is also an INFJ but a good version.

MDZS thoughts; jiang cheng's mbti

I’ve been thinking about MBTI in the MDZS community recently, and even posted an analysis of Jiang Cheng on PDB, but I’ve decided I wanted to post something here as well. Spoilers are included in this post by the way, though that’s a given. In terms of the general consensus on PDB, Jiang Cheng is an ESTJ, but I wanted to argue for ISTJ based off the placement of his Ne. This post will dive into cognitive functions as well as the placement of them, which means if anyone is basing their argument on rudimentary MBTI analysis (I’m talking ‘Oh I’m extroverted, and I have feelings so I’m obviously an ENFP’) expect to be flamed.  

In relation to cognitive functions, ESTJs (obviously) aren't that different from ISTJs, but none of the posts I’ve seen on PDB have a good reasoning for the specific placements of Jiang Cheng’s Ne. Placing Ne as his inferior function makes a lot more sense than Ne tertiary when one considers the Jiang’s motto, ‘attempt the impossible’. It appears to be a bit of a sore spot for Jiang Cheng, because he always felt his father had favoured Wei Wuxian more, bearing in mind that Wei Wuxian has the extraordinary ability to think outside the box quite a bit more than Jiang Cheng himself could. Wei Wuxian himself is an ENTP, placing Ne as his dominant function, and although Jiang Cheng probably can think of impossible solutions to things, it’s problematic that he can never show it in the way that counts (read; in a way that impresses his father). This itself fits an Ne inferior compared to an Ne tertiary function, because tertiary’s act as a counterbalance to your auxiliary function but placing Ne as an inferior endorses his use of it, while also allowing one to recognise that his use of Ne is very rare and affects his basic fears and insecurities, which is very common for inferior functions (for example, not being able to live up to his name like his brother can, despite the fact Wei Wuxian is not a Jiang). Tertiary Ne would make him a lot more outgoing and experimental, but placing it in his inferior function makes it known that he has it, it’s just exhausting and difficult to use.   

To argue for ISTJ will also mean that you have to switch Fi from an Fi inferior to an Fi tertiary, but this is a pretty easy switch. A key component of having Fi inferior (which would be ExTJ) is that an unhealthy use of it will result in the user getting so lost in their own ambitions or goals that they’ll lose their sense of self or end up going against their own moral code. And I think this is something that maybe would have suited a younger Jiang Cheng, because everyone before the time skip was insecure and at odds with their growing and changing selves (something that’s really common throughout your teenage years anyway), but it doesn't fit older Jiang Cheng, who has been sculpted by decades of grief and the loss of everyone he cares about. He is confident and composed the majority of the time (I do not want to hear anyone bringing The Untamed Jiang Cheng into this because he doesn’t count, novel Jiang Cheng is a cold-hearted bitch), and never loses sight of himself. He’s Sect Leader Jiang and Sandu Shengshou, and he holds himself to a rather strict moral code. His morals also happen to perfectly align themselves with whatever's good for the sect, because Jiang Cheng has shown time and time again to push aside whatever is good for others to protect Yunmeng Jiang. He stands strong and would never compromise what he believes in, which is the sect he built from the ground up again. An unhealthy use of Fi tertiary (ISxJ) would look something like being so staunch and unyielding in one's moral codes that they don’t care about how other people view them and they don’t care about how other people may have different opinions, because they are so assured in their own ideology. Jiang Cheng is exactly this type of person, because he’s so stuck in his own views of everything that happened, that he regularly fails to consider other points of view, which is part of the inherent tragedy that has stained him and Wei Wuxian’s relationship ever since they were kids.

I like to think Jiang Cheng is one of the more well-adjusted MDZS characters, because the whole golden core reveal at the end of the novel/donghua was a huge shock and reverted what appeared to be around a decade of healing and moving on, so like, go Jiang Cheng! I see no point arguing to replace his dominant function from Te to Si considering your dominant and auxiliary function work in tandem anyways, and as a finishing note, I don’t know why I bother posting on PDB, because half the people on there do brainless and stereotypical voting of literally everyone, that is so rudimentary it makes me ill. I’ve genuinely seen people vote INFP for Jiang Cheng or ENFP for Wei Wuxian and I just. It’s so stupid.

It seems to me that although Eddy is a more written character, Edd has a more interesting type and he is a more unusual character in general. I mean, there are characters like Eddy in almost every cartoon, another question is how well they are written or not. And I haven't met characters like Double D. This is the reason why I like Double D much more than Eddy.

Oh, I agree with you! This is definetely one of my main reasons for loving and relating to Edd so much. When reading this, people might argue "there are many nerdy characters", "there are many smart/genius characters", "there are many shy/introverted characters", "there are many socially awkward characters", "there are many cute characters", "there are many kind-hearted/caring/tender characters", "there are many straight-laced characters", "there are many sarcastic characters"... Yeah, but a character that has all of that together and much more? A genius character who makes a lot of mistakes? A sweet and kind soul who's also a bitch?

I think most people reduce Edd to the genius character, or to the cute character, when he's much more than that! Or even reduce him to the "good guy" when there's no such thing in the show. I mean, I've been writing a list of traits/things we have in common, and it's so... long. Double D has a LOT of specific characteristics and it's definitely not common to see characters with so many different characteristics like him.

I love his personality. I feel like he's so realistic because he's a character with many flaws and contradictions that stand out to me more because it's different to see the character known for acting like a jerk (Eddy) having flaws, and the character who's supposed to be "the good guy", the "little angel", the "responsible" person of the group, the "perfect" one. I already made a post once about how I love seeing an ISFJ character like this, because I'm an ISFJ and I feel like this character represents me so well, because as a real person I obviously have a lot of flaws and go beyond the stereotype of an ISFJ.

He's very multifaceted and can even be hypocritical at times. I think this plurality of his gives him life and makes him very relatable. It may seem difficult to understand him and his motivations for his contradictory attitudes, but I identify so much with his contradictions that I can perfectly see reasons for him to act that way. In the future I'll write large and complete analyses of each of the Eds, and in my analysis of Edd, most of it will probably be me projecting myself onto him and using my personal experience to talk about him, to explain my own interpretation of how he thinks and why he acts and makes the decisions he does.
