DID YOU KNOW...
Damien Hirst created a statue of Saint Bartholomew in 2006 titled "Exquisite Pain"? And it's some Hellraiser Cenobite Clive Barker Cronenberg shit:
Tumblr media
I mean, yeah, Saint Bart is often depicted carrying his skin around but zoowee mama. Please observe the intact ear on his removed skin. And they peeled his dimpus like a lil banana. I'm not sure why he's holding a magic wand but that's not the part I want to talk about. I wanna talk about the back of this statue:
Tumblr media
They peeled his ass like a grape.
(It is so hard to find a picture of the backside peeled-orange-ass of this statue, let alone one without a watermark.)
And, yeah, that's his bellybutton and peepee skin hanging off his hide there. Delicate work.
Anyway, Damien Hirst wishes he were Francis Bacon but he isn't lmao.

Tintin Tarot, part 2 - the Fool's Journey Continues. Part 1 can be found here! Me and @josephscoat came up with a list of Tintin characters assigned to the major arcana cards in a tarot deck after she realised how well Tintin mapped onto the Fool.
The Hanged Man - Sacrifice, martydom and hesitation. Frank Wolff's death in Explorers on the Moon really stuck with me. I watched the 90s cartoon adaptation of it with a friend recently and even though I knew what was going to happen, it still hit very hard. I replaced the living tree, which represents the potential for growth and knowledge on the original card, with the planet Earth.
Death - New beginnings, metamorphosis, fear of change and decay. Even just for the imagery I had to use Rascar Capac. His use in the narrative seems to demonstrate a fear of the unknown. As the Hierophant and the child from the Sun card appear on the original Death card, I opted to use Rascar Capac as he's in the same story as the Prince of the Sun and Zorrino, who we assigned to the Hierophant and the Sun respectively! Professor Tarragon replaces the dying person on the ground in the original card, and Inti the Incan sun god watches over the scene.
Temperance - Middle path, patience, finding meaning, but also could mean excess and a lack of balance when reversed. Haddock is famous for his tendency to fly off the handle at a moment's notice. But Haddock also has endless patience for Tintin's bullshit. His character arc is one of finding meaning in his life after hitting rock bottom. He is pouring bottles of Loch Lomond, as seen in the Magician card.
The Devil - Addiction, lust, materialism, playfulness. Who else is more devillish than Tintin's arch nemesis, Rastapopoulos? His schemes grow wilder and larger as he pursues wealth and revenge. While sexuality is famously absent from the Tintin series, Rastapopoulos and his associates certainly lust over money and control. Tom and Allan are held in chains, though they are clearly removeable. The choice is theirs if they wish to walk away.
The Tower - Sudden upheaval, disaster, but also an avoidance of disaster in reverse. Calculus' reusable nuclear powered moon rocket was literally ahead of its time, representing a huge shake up in technological advancement in the Tintin universe. However, the moon mission attracted a lot of sabotage and disaster which was narrowly avoided. While the characters had to rely on the rocket for safety, it's not necessarily predictable.
The Star - Hope and rejuvenation, but also discouragement and insecurity in reverse. The phostile meteorite ushered a global wave of panic and speculation initially, but once it landed it became a beacon for competing factions to get to in time. It has a property that allows living things to grow quickly and abnormally large, representing the abundance the Star card is supposed to signal. The Star is supposed to follow the trauma of the Tower. Picking the rocket and meteorite felt thematically appropriate as both have associations with space, a relatively new frontier.
The Moon - Illusions, intuition, fear, confusion, misinterpretation. Professor Phostle jumps to conclusions and makes wild predictions from shaky calculations. He's also conveniently moon shaped.
The Sun - Inner child, joy, truth and liberation from struggle, or sadness and self doubt in reverse. Zorrino escapes the torment and bullying in his village and joins the Inca. Haddock and Tintin are immediately protective over him, with Zorrino being a little younger than Tintin.
Judgement - Releasing baggage, call to action, renewal, moving forward. Ramo Nash breaks free from Rastapopoulos' grasp and saves Tintin's life. I decided to depict the final confrontation scene from Alph Art where he pushes Rastapopoulos off a cliff, to his end.
The World - Culmination, success, completion, but stagnation in reverse. The Fool has seemingly completed his journey - Tintin has it all, a successful fulfilling career, friends who care about him and a manion to live in. But he is, by design, stagnant. Forever a cherub faced boy, stuck in an episodic serial by nature, Hergé wanted to kill him off by sealing him inside a resin statue, freezing him in place for eternity. He will forever be the Boy Reporter.
I dressed him as a Morris dancer because I thought it would be funny

Diseased Relicary
Weird autopsies

An mild ailment corroded the streets of Arca two decades ago. The fevers were believed to be contracted throught the ingestion of contaminated fish and water. The vercals, renown healers, rose to power to ensure it wouldnt erradicate the city, but it ended making it worse. Health potions administered by Saint Trina's order were only capable of stopping the synthoms for a few days, and then they returned and so on. Anger festered in the streets, as only a few were able to afford such care and any attempts to replicate or look for a cure outside the order were crushed just as the poison filled vials between the teeths of their perpretators.
Queen Consuelo Vercal herself got the infection, but she endured years, for the monarch had the saints beside her. As the queen stood proudly on Arca Altus tall towers, the city withered at her feet. And another disease took the city: rebellion.
Only when the queen stepped down and took off the crown, as a final act of martydom, the plague was expelled from the city's lungs. The Nerón family then swore to legislate towards peace so the city could recover, not just from the epidemy, but also from the deep wounds that divided it.
The disease is now known as the Saltpeter fevers, due to its origin in the salty waters of the estuary, and the white residue pilling around the mouths of the ill. Just a few medics and forensic were able to see where it came from.

How did Richie do the math?
You don't think I can do it made a 💡 in Richie's head.
He already spent the morning psychoanalyzing Carmy. Now, he has another clue about why Carmy is acting the way he is.
When Carmy asks, "You dont think i can do it?" did Richie remember the conversation Carmy had with Sydney in 2x01?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Richie is thinking- all this because Sydney wants a star?
Who gives a fuck about stars...
Sydney does and Carmy wants to get one.
Interesting
Then richie remembers Carmy is like Donna.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like Donna, Carmy doesn't know how to show and be loved in a healthy way. Like Donna Carmy will martydom-build resentment - have inappropriate outbursts- make sure they don't enjoy things or people they love.
Tumblr media
And Carmy loving someone has him acting out in the only loving way he knows. It's not the way he was acting with Claire - I think Richie realized this. It's how he's acting with Sydney that Richie observes throughout season 3, which makes him see more of Donna in Carmy and what's holding him back.
I'm sure he also remembered that Carmy knows he loves someone and something, but he doesn't know how to have fun with what he loves because of Donna. So, Richie sees the person he loves (Sydney) and Carmy sucking the joy out of The Bear and he wants to help Carmy but knows he has to do the self discovery himself.
This is why Richie, although he is against the star system, is still letting Carmy do what he needs to do. But he's also trying to show him you love her and it doesn't mean you can't have fun doing this with Sydney. It's why he makes suggestions of the razzle dazzle, Open hearts, and the dream weave.
If I'm betting on anything, I hope Richie is the one Carmy talks to once he sorts out his feelings.

ok besties, i'm planning to make a major arcana tarot card collection for the THG, but I need some help because 1. i'm kinda stumped and 2. I havent finished TBOSAS so maybe area i'm missing have characters that suit them well. Anyway I'd love some feed back to bounce some ideas around. I don't mind if some characters are used more than once, but Im trying to limit to 2 cards per character.
The Fool (Beginnings, innocence, spontaneity, a free spirit); Effie Trinket. The unaware, optimistic character of the fool, feels fitting for Effie. As for most of the series, she goes around somewhat unaware of the hurdles and dangers that lie before her towards the end of the trilogy.
The Magician (Manifestation, resourcefulness, power, inspired action): Cinna (and Portia??). The magician manifests his goals into the real world. This feels self explanitory.
High Priestess: (Intuition, sacred knowledge, divine feminine, the subconscious mind) UNDECIDED. But I am leaning towards either Mrs. Everdeen or Finnick Odair. The High Priestess provides deep intuitive understanding  and awareness via hidden/secret information. These are the two characters that a lowkey guide us throught Katniss' inner state. Finnick does it more openingly in the story, but its through her mother and her failings that we true see and understand Katniss' character.
The Hierophant: (Spiritual wisdom, religious beliefs, conformity, tradition, institutions) UNDECIDED. But maybe Plutarch or Caeser Flickerman? As they both have a hand in imparting knowledge (from a higher authority) to the people via their platform. Oh maybe I can use them post. One to represent the Heirophant upright, and the other to represent it do downright. Reversed, it represents Personal beliefs, freedom, challenging the status quo, which I think aligns more with Plutarch.
The Empress: (Femininity, beauty, nature, nurturing, abundance) UNDECIDED. I'm so torn. This feels like a good fit for Katniss, BUT I already have plans for her in the other cards and I want other characters to have representation. My other picks are Lucy Gray and Prim/Rue, but like I said I haven't finished TBOSAS yet. lol
The Emperor: (Authority, establishment, structure, a father figure) It's Snow. lmao
Lovers: (Love, harmony, relationships, values alignment, choices) Of course. It's Everlark
The Chariot: ( Control, willpower, success, action, determination) Alma Coin. Feels very fitting considers that the rebels one and she tried to take full control afterwards.
Strength: (Strength, courage, persuasion, influence, compassion) Prim and Rue? But Johanna feels like a good fit too.
Hermit: (Soul-searching, introspection, being alone, inner guidance) Haymitch Abernathy ))))):
Wheel of Fortune: The reaping bowl.
Justice: Gale Hawthorne
The Hanged Man: (Pause, surrender, letting go, new perspectives) UNDECIDED. I'm kinda torn between Peeta, Prim, Johanna and Cinna for this. The Hanged Man is the card of ultimate surrender, martydom and sacrifice for the greater good. Katniss would also be a good pick too.
Death: (Endings, change, transformation, transition) 74th Games bloodbath?
Temperance: (Balance, moderation, patience, purpose) Finnick Odair. The Temperance card is stabilize you with patience and moderation, not force or resistance. It's fitting for a character who was helping Katniss ground herself during Mockingjay.
The Devil: (Shadow self, attachment, addiction, restriction, sexuality) MJ Johanna feels fitting for this. Not because she's the evil, but because she's kind of represents the dark and more negative side of Katniss. As she engages in Katniss' worst habits, such as anger and isolation. And would choose short term gratification and the expense of long term prosperity. But Snow (as the symbol of the capitol) would fit as well. Which is like duuuuh
The Tower: (Sudden change, upheaval, chaos, revelation, awakening) Blowing up the 75th Arena or maybe the Capitol bombs??
Star: (Hope, faith, purpose, renewal, spirituality) It's the boy with the bread! Peeta. Originally I was going to give him the Sun, but I felt like Primrose fit better over there. The star brings hope, love and purpose after great turmoil and challenges. And its fitting that Katniss' lover is the star in the sky that guides her.
The Moon: (Illusion, fear, anxiety, subconscious, intuition) Katniss! This is Katniss. All her main motivations in the story are fueled by these factors.
The Sun: (Positivity, fun, warmth, success, vitality) Primrose. The sun card radiates optimism and positivity. Which is fitting for someone who brings so much warmth into Katniss' life.
Judgement: The Mockingjay
The World: (Completion, integration, accomplishment, travel) Toast Babies. Children and children death and suffering. Are the core subjects of the book. The toast babies exists represent the wholeness and achieve of everyone Katniss and the rest of Panem has to suffer to end the games.

For my dear friend Tam @officiallanxichen. Wow I had so many BoremotionsTM whilst drawing this.
This is the idea I had in my head as soon as I read your gift request, but that I was convinced was too difficult and that I would never be able to pull off, so obviously I put it off by doing other things instead and then doing it anyway. and it looks SO COOL SO MUCH BETTER THAN I EVER IMAGINED!!

Everything about a current discourse is aggressively very bad but uh. It is interesting to see where current leftists have decided to align themselves on an endlessly messy discourse,
but it is also interesting to see how a) “the no Israeli civillians” crowd have erased the political positionality of a U.S. serviceman killing himself while in uniform, an issue obviously not disconnected from US military imperialism and also stark in lack of leftists’ general failure to reckon with soldier suicide rates as a significant issue ( https://www.npr.org/2021/06/24/1009846329/military-suicides-deaths-mental-health-crisis#:~:text=A%20new%20report%20on%20U.S.,than%20four%20times%20as%20many. ) beyond the general banner of Die Fascist Pigs. It’s very bad when anyone dies and it’s bad when anyone kills themselves and there are complex circumstances involved in bushnell’s suicide, those circumstances are seemingly contradictory and tied not only to I/P but internal U.S. violence and imperialism. b) yeah very true many cultures have concepts of martyrdom. Doesn’t mean I can’t critique them! In particular the glorification of martydom is extra weird, in discourse land, when so much of the pro-martyrdom content in the I/P air is definitionally military-Zionist - it’s better to die for Israel, like the martyrs at Masada, then set down your rifle and go home! This does not mean martyrdom talk is inherently Zionist or tied to one side, it’s not, but it’s also not inherently liberatory either. The ideology that it’s better to die than live to fix the problem - that what you can do with a single death is more important than what you can do with your whole life - is a complex one, bound by an incredible number of social factors, but it is not inherently one in support of liberation.
In particular the ways in which the US military and U.S. culture have a specific cult of martyrdom is in fact a very very relevant conversation to be had right the fuck now! Even if for Bushnell it took the form of something that would be read by progressives as a positive cause, such ideology has also been part of the enlisting and deployment of US soldiers of the military-industrial-imperial complex to Iraq and Afghanistan! It’s better to die for your country than live for it IS a part of us Christian and military culture and it needs to be critiqued! The flattening of this into a linear understanding of decolonization limits an analysis of the military imperialist factors themselves.

Schwarzette: The Goat in The Room
With the mystery of Aerial solved and Pharact sidelined by the plot, we can't help but wonder about the remaining and newest gundam. Who will pilot, and why does it look like a weird goat person with horns and hooves?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first thing that comes to mind is the tales of witches and ritualistic goat sacrifice. Ominous but I don't quiite think that's the intended message. If we peer deeper into witchcraft, mysticism, and the animal itself, a diffent pattern is revealed.
Tumblr media
The goat was one of man's first domesticated creatures and is oft associated with mysticism, nature, and myth. But it's also a deeply motherly animal, hyper vigilant and caring to their young. Studies have shown, goat mother's do not forget their children. https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rspb.2012.0986
Goat milk itself is easier to digest than cow milk for children. It's common to find stories of adopted children nursed by goats. Like the story of Amalthea and Zeus--
Tumblr media
The goat is a wild and motherly creature, and was only demonized later as servants of devils/demons for their cloven hooves/horns. Naturally, the animal was linked to witches because of this. Yet witches are wild and inherently symbols of feminine power themselves.
Now why do I think this is significant?
Tumblr media
Because GWitch is deliberately associating goats and motherhood. Ep19 sees Suletta, following the rebirth imagery in 18 and her mother's abandonment, regain strength from Tycho's milk. Tycho the goat is her Amalthea. Since it's doubtful Prospera weaned her as a baby, this might be the first time she's drank from a living creature's teat.
Let's return to Schwarzette, a powerful name and stature but one that sounds unmistakably feminine. Then link its goat coloring and design, this is blatantly a witch's mobile suit but also a motherly one. When we remember Notrette, a mother with a similar sounding name and a direct call to the Giantess Nott from norse myth (yet another mother personifying night) the tie is strengthened. The halo surrounding its head is another interesting visual cue, bringing to mind martydom/angelic protection.
*Another point, the Schwarzette horns are explicitly that of a female. The steep incline, lack of curve, and wide gap indicate this.
Tumblr media
I can't help but think this read is intended considering we might see Suletta pilot Schwarzette to reach Miorine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After all, goat mothers do not forget their children.
