Don't forget about Ukraine
The world, don't forget that in Ukraine it's even more cities like Mariupol have been mercilessly wiped off by Russia. Extremely horrific war crimes keep registering. Death toll can't be calculated now. We urgently need your support. Please keep spreading our voices and donate to our army and combat medics (savelife.in.ua, prytulafoundation.org, Serhii Sternenko, hospitallers.life, ptahy.vidchui.org and u24.gov.ua).

I am so rarely serious here, I mainly post fandom stuff and on some ocassions weird day to day shit. However, a personal note today. Per my bio, I am Ukranian (from Kyiv).
As such a reminder: this war has been going on for ten years not two. Just because people in the West decided to remember that IDPs exist and Russia annaxed Crimea within the past two years, doesn't change the fact that Russia invaded Crimea ten years ago all of my paternal family is from Donetsk/Luhansk and have been internally displaced for years. I am privileged that my lived experience is that of IDPs, refugee registrations, destroyed property, and not lives lost. I am lucky to say I lost the city of Mariinka not specific people. R*ssians are delusional and genocidal. When ~80% of your country supports a war you cannot look at the victims and declare that they are Russaphobic for the very accurate assessment that the majority of R*ssians want Ukrainians dead and do not believe in the sovereignty of a Ukranian state.
As such if you have the financial means, I leave a couple fundraiser links here, both for the armed forces and humanitarian aid. While humanitarian aid is greatly appreciate, I urge people to remember we save ten dollars on humanitarian aid for every dollar folks give directly to the armed forces. This is not about finances, but about the fact that humanitarian aid is vital but doesn't stop Russian forces. Drones and artillery shells and the bravery of Ukrainian armed forces does. We ask only for armament, we will do the rest ourselves.
Finally, while I acknowledge that we live in a finite attention economy, and I chose to spotlight Ukraine today (because the onus is on us as Ukranians, no one else will advocate for us) doesn't mean peopel shouldn't stand in solidarity and support other folks suffering from armed conflict. I personally stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine (I urge people to keep boycotting organizations funding genocide and to continue calling for a ceasfire), of Armenia, Myanmar, Sudan, Syria and the DRC. We arguably understand each other's experiences the most, and can achive lasting change only through collation. I also acknowledge the racist treatment of most of these wars. It is fundamentally unjust my family has an easier time with refugee registration because we are white.
I have to keep on believing this war will end and we will rebuild one day. Слава Україні і героєм Слава! 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

My heart breaks at the thought of Mariinka no longer existing. Inhuman monsters have completely destroyed this peaceful town, leaving only ruins and ashes. There are no words to express the pain and sorrow that engulf our hearts. May this tragedy serve as a warning to the world of the need to stop violence and preserve human life!

Mariinka. Once a homely lively town in the East of Ukraine.
Then Russians came and "protected it from the Nazis".

It's so heartbreaking and eerie to know the fate of many frontline towns. Now it's Pokrovsk. We all know what's about to happen to it and what kind of pictures we will see soon. We've seen what russia did to Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Mariinka and many more. And the world won't even care or know about the city that seized to exist and the people who once lived there and who died protecting it. Pokrovsk still stands at the moment, but it feels like the moment in horror movie when the music intensifies and you know something bad is about to happen.

You see, from what I have witnessed, people outside of Ukraine are getting an incredibly sanitized version of this war's events. It's all part of the bigger practice, obviously. Just like the topics of ww2 are being sanitized in education.
When a prominent Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko had a public reading of her book in Zurich, she was explicitly warned to not mention the war, because "that would be traumatizing for the audience". They don't want to even hear anything that would be traumatizing!
Well guess what: it should be traumatizing. Nobody should be comfortable with this. Or with what has been happening in Syria, or Myanmar, or anywhere else.
"Kyiv still stands 😎" our allies say, because it's comfortable to say that and not "Mariupol lies in ruins, Mariinka, Volnovakha and Bakhmut are wiped off the face of the Earth, and we are still refusing to provide the aid Ukraine has been requesting for more than a year now after we made it give up on its defense capabilities in the first place".
I keep thinking about all the mass graves that we keep discovering on the liberated territories. And about all the mass graves that keep growing on the still occupied territories. About torture chambers, about filtration camps, about the mass kidnappings of children. About all the rape, organised, sanctioned. I keep thinking about the 7-year old girl whose body was recovered from one of the mass graves, with traces of sperm from 7 different men on her. About the children whose parents were tortured, raped and executed in front of them. And vice versa. About photos and videos of human heads russians put up on tree branches and poles near their positions.
Feeling uncomfortable? Good. You should be.

it breaks my heart to realize that these wonderful Ukrainian cities were once green and happy, life was raging there, people planned the future, grew up, celebrated birthdays and the New Year. and then Russia came and destroyed everything... all that remains of Mariinka, Bakhmut and Mariupol are ruins. and unfortunately, these cities are not the only victims of Russian aggression.
I ask you to not forget that Russia invaded Ukraine and trying to destroy everything Ukrainian every day. kills people, kidnaps children, destroys cities, burns Ukrainian books and destroys Ukrainian museums. please support Ukraine in our battle for life.

This post is for the crowd that calls Gaza a genocide, but completely dismisses Ukraine; supports Palestine, but completely dismisses Ukraine. I hear “well the whole strip is razed, while Ukrainians drink coffee”.
Let’s talk. Ukraine is experiencing a genocide. Our whole country not being up in flames doesn’t make it any less of a genocide.
Ukraine is 15,000 times the size of Gaza. Russia leveled Mariupol, Severodonetsk, Bakhmut, Soledar, Mariinka, Avdiivka, and most recently (a few days ago) Vovchansk — to name just a few. Each of these cities were destroyed completely.
Ukraine is the largest country in Europe. 20% of our territory is occupied. That’s about the size of Denmark. So, now put in perspective HOW MUCH russia has completely wiped off the face of the earth. Hint: At least a medium European country worth of cities and towns.
De-occupied territories are mined for 50 years into the future (to put it modestly). Museums, books, culture — destroyed. Kids and adults are kidnapped and put into what russia calls “filtration [of loyalty to russia] camps” aka concentration camps.
Stop being a hypocrite. If you call events in Gaza a genocide, stop looking for excuses as to why not give the same name to what russia is doing to Ukraine.
And if you dare scream “UkRaInE sUpPoRtS IsRaEL” — Hamas supports and directly cooperates with russia. Two can play that game.
In October our president said he believes Israel has a right to defend itself from the Hamas attack. He never said we condone the bombing of Gaza. You can condemn Hamas, and you can condemn the Israeli government using that to wipe Gaza off the map at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive. Both are wrong.

«The sun rises behind the spoil heaps»
In today's post about music, I want to share some stories of our incredible defenders and more. So get ready for some real stories about the men of steel who are among us.
«Orest» (kztsky - in Twitter) - our "eyes" at Azovstal. In September 2022, more than 200 people returned to the territory controlled by Ukraine from Russian captivity, more than a hundred of them were Azov soldiers. Dmytro ("Orest") Kozatsky also returned then. Before leaving Azovstal, he posted photos about the lives of Mariupol's defenders and allowed them to be distributed while he was in captivity. These photos, taken during the defense of the besieged plant, went viral. His most important mission is to remind us of the Azov prisoners of war. Do not forget about them. Many Azov people have been in captivity for 22 months (!). Song: Skladno - Azovstal
Read this. There are many such unbelievable stories like that.
Song: Fall Out Boy feat. RM - Champion
Lines "If I can live through this, I can do anything" - it's about our prisoners of war.
Russia has taken away another defender for whom aggression, injustice, lies, and hypocrisy were unacceptable. Once again best Ukrainian people get killed while Russians stay unpunished. Where's justice?
Song: Ado - Value
That's Mariinka and what Russia has done with it. So much pain and grief.
Song: Yarmak - Babylon ("The sun rises behind the spoil heaps" - it's about the symbol of the Donetsk region). I'm on the verge of tears about all the meanings in this song and clip. Urgently recommend watching it. There are English subs. Don't hesitate.
The photo with the hiding statue is mine. That's how Ukrainians save our culture and heritage from Russia in Lviv and all cities of Ukraine. I wish Ukraine would be fully liberated and rebuilt. But it's only possible with the help and support of good people and countries in the democratic world. So I cry out to the world. Please keep spreading our voices and donate to our army and combat medics (savelife.in.ua, prytulafoundation.org, Serhii Sternenko, hospitallers.life, ptahy.vidchui.org and u24.gov.ua).
Song: Eileen - З вогню повстану (Reignite)

Russia raises its flag in Avdiivka, then presses the advantage on a vulnerable Ukraine
The Russians launched a determined drive to seize Avdiivka in October. But they are also on the attack near Bakhmut and Mariinka (also in Donetsk), and towards Kupiansk in the north.
On the southern front, in Zaporizhzhia, Russian and Ukrainian sources speak of a massive Russian build-up in the area where the Ukrainians tried to launch their counter-offensive last summer. According to some analysts a force of 50,000 men has been assembled.
the shortage of artillery shells seems to be the biggest limitation for Ukraine right now, at least if you don't count the shortage of air power

The sun is rising behind the spoil tips.(2) The world is allowing those with strong beliefs to claim what is rightfully theirs. Babylon is burning, but we are already holding the line with swords in our hands. For fire cannot touch those who were forged in flames. (3)
Listen to the latest song from the authors of the now famous Ukrainain track "Wild Field"
youtube
We human beings have been blessed with a beautiful garden and a myriad of pathways to explore. Each atom is a work of art, a haven of emerald waters. But there are some who get a kick of launching drones into children's rooms. They are just God's mistake, a badly written machine code. Having received the most remarkable creation - human body - In the world of violins and scripts, they want to pull the Soviet oar, Half a world away from home. Cruel beasts from birth, They thirstily feed on blood. True evil, in short. Endowed with gifts to weave love and musical chords, I dive instead into this surreal reality, when I could be building life instead. Because if we do not, all of us will be killed by this horde. Our world is broken again. We have to be the engineers of new Existence.
The sun is rising behind the spoil tips. The world is allowing those with strong beliefs to claim what is rightfully theirs. Babylon is burning, but we are already holding the line with swords in our hands. For fire cannot touch those who were forged in flames.
The uranium of the nation is here, where the spirit of the people is stronger than the everlasting ores. In the cities, there are cobblestones and animal waste. If you are a pound of slag, no money will get you rich. We are the pillars that provide the world with a continuous and influential impetus. The courageous and resolute do not fear death. It would be awful if the two shores were to be torn apart once more, The actions of the heroes - erased, the children - colonized.(4) It's better to go into battle with a pack of wolves than a herd of deer. Destitute slaves dive into the Tisza River. But we emerge from lava, from soot, and fog. Demons are constantly climbing out of the underground mines. With the bodies of the best of us, we are sewing up the cracks of the Earth.
The sun is rising behind the spoil tips. The world is allowing those with strong beliefs to claim what is rightfully theirs. Babylon is burning, but we are already holding the line with swords in our hands. For fire cannot touch those who were forged in flames.
Behind the tericons Babylon is burning, and we are Under the crown of the sky We stand in legions
The video clip shows war-torn Donbas. Especially in the second half of the video, you can see what used to be asphalt roads lined with rubble that used to be houses - all that's left of the city of Mariinka. The landscape of Donbas - endless fields of wheat, sunflowers and wildflowers - burned and scarred with craters left by missiles. For reference, this is how Donbas looked before:
2. Spoil tips, or terricones as we call them, are waste from mines, the size of mountains - a very common sight in Donbas.
3. "For fire cannot burn those who were forged in flames" is a very famous quote from Taras Shevchenko's epic poem "Hamalia"
4. In these 2 lines the song is referencing Ukrainian history in the beginning of the 20th century. The Dnipro River divides all of Ukraine almost cleanly in half, and by this separation line Ukraine had been divided for many years - the Left Bank under the rule of Russian Empire, the Right Bank - under Poland's rule. But after WWI and after Russian Empire fell, Ukrainians were able to first establish two Ukrainian states (people of the Left Bank established Ukraine's People Rebublic and people of the Right Bank established West Ukrainian People Republic) and then, on January 22, 1919 - to unite again into one singular state. This date of signing the Treaty of Unity is a national holiday in modern Ukraine. Alas, soon the whole country was again occupied by Russia and forced into the Soviet Union.
