I hate being a person who loves bugs, I can't say anything without the person I'm talking to reacting with disgust. Today I had to literally beg a coworker for the life of a spider, and then after I put it in a nook outside she thought it'd be funny to show me a video she took of her killing one. Like idk man. Birds scare the shit out of me but I still get why people love them. They come in pretty colors and they sound nice and they're interesting to observe. I don't understand why people don't feel the same about bugs. The rich amber color of a cockroach, the iridescent glow of a fly, the intricate hydraulics that power their little legs, the chirp of a beetle, the art of the spider's web... It's all so beautiful. Why is it the habit of so many to destroy?

We don’t talk enough about how Martin was likely mostly running the institute by himself (cuz Peter probably wasn’t all that helpful, Martin for sure never wants to see a spreadsheet again) while in a depressive episode AND manipulating Peter to make him think he’s on his side. I think it's funny that Gale, Wyll, Shadowheart, and Astarion all have these moments where they're like "ok, I need to confess something that I've been hiding from you... I'm actually a horrible person because (I'm a ticking time bomb/I made a pact with a devil/I worship a goddess widely regarded as evil/I'm a vampire)" and Karlach is like "uh btw, before you start being too nice to me, the devil who made me into a living weapon might track me down and try to kidnap me back after I escaped from her" and they're all like "so I understand if you don't want to travel with me anymore, I'll pack my little bag and go... wait, I can stay? You mean it? Oh my god thank you, I'll be good just give me a chance to prove myself, I can't believe you're still letting me travel with you" and half of them just expect you to kill them on the spot once they tell you what's going on

... meanwhile Lae'zel has been up-front about all her crazy stuff from the moment you met and she thinks you're either insane or the stupidest creature alive if you don't want her to tag along. what a queen

what I'm learning is that MXTX series really have ☆*: .｡The Range｡.:*☆ and that my first impressions often don't survive for very long...

MDZS, initial impression: ooh revived necromancer that everyone fears, this is going to be dark and revenge-fuelled

MDZS, subsequent impression: these are Silly Lil Guys off on a romcom murder mystery

SVSSS first impression: nerd who got isekai'd into a shitty novel, crybaby puppy dog imprints on him

SVSSS subsequent impression: how many times now has the love interest tortured the main character? should I start a tally?

So I was just thinking of posting something glib along the lines of "How about Garak as part of Julian's found family rather than his love interest?" but then I started actually thinking about how that would work and immediately stumbled across the issue of Daddy Issues Everywhere--

And now I can't stop thinking about, like, Julian meeting this older lizard man who seems genuinely interested him and seeing him as a father figure, and whatnot.

But the trouble is, it seems that I cannot conceive of a universe where Julian is never attracted to Garak, and so you get this situation like a year in, where Julian's convinced that Garak's interest in him is fatherly - he asks how his work's been; he mentors him a little in spycraft, kind of; he takes him on family day trips to random Bajoran orphanages in the middle of the night...

And suddenly Julian realises he's got a crush on Garak. Like, a big one. And he's so ashamed of himself and freaking out and feeling like 'oh my god, Garak can never know, I can only imagine how taboo that is on Cardassia, oh no, this is The Worst'.

And meanwhile Garak is completely oblivious to this, because he believes he's had a lovely year of flirty lunches with his doctor and has no idea that Julian sees him as a father figure.

Idk how this resolves, but I'm sure Jadzia would have an absolute field day after Julian gets drunk enough to miserably confess his dilemma to her.

(Also I'm pretty sure Julian does not have a daddy kink in this, which actually makes it worse for him, because if he had a kink, at least he'd have an excuse. He's just so miserable. I'm sorry, I can't stop laughing at him rip 😅)
