Occasionally, I have an awful lot of energy and I need to burn it off somehow, either my bouncing on a trampoline, running around the house, something like that.

Happy Autism Acceptance Month! Reminder that the puzzle piece is an ableist symbol associated with Autism Speaks, especially when it is a blue puzzle piece. So use the infinity symbol for autism instead.

And one more thing. Don't Light it Up Blue! Light it Up Red Instead! Light it Up Blue is also associated with Autism Speaks.

THIS JUST IN: AUTISM SPEAKS... APOLOGIZES? 🤨

In an old comment of mine from 2024 on Aut2ask's page regarding the closure of Canada's branch this year, I alleged that Autism Speaks had no remorse for any of the material they released (IE: The ableist "I Am Autism" ad.) Somebody replied to me saying that I was spreading misinformation. I doubted it, as I'm normally on-top of these things, but gave research a spin anyway.

The commentor was actually right-- they HAD released an apology I hadn't seen! The 5th or 6th result on Google, right on the blog's main page.

I've already shared my thoughts on the apology (check my page/Autism Speaks tag for it; I don't post about Autism Speaks very much, it should be relatively easy to find); but I also shared that I had a hunch that this was recent, since I hadn't seen or heard any mentions of it before.

Thanks to the Wayback machine and a friend of mine, I've been able to get at least a rough answer to my question!

2024.

They released the ad on YouTube in 2009; got slammed for it almost immediately, even then; went radio silent for 15 years, and then released one article of apology in mid-2024. And it proceeded to get so little visibility that I didn't see a single Autism-focused page (including Autism Speaks' social media!) push it into the limelight. On top of that, it was only saved 12 times between May 2024 and now (February 22nd, 2025.)

Is it better than nothing? Yes. But do with that what you will.

I'm not a fan of the company. Never will be. I find them to be more trouble than they're worth. But only one thing irks me more than their existence, and it's an inaccurate argument. I'd like to see more Autistic people posting about this. Hopefully I can get a ball rolling.

trying new coloring methods. 0/10 do NOT recommend, but hey at least i got something kinda okay out of it

#this was based on a sketch i posted a few days ago cuz i didnt have any ideas for compositions #-and i wanted to try a new rendering method i saw on youtube #the method btw is to start in greyscale so you can get the values right before using the curves tool to adjust colors #i ended up hating it though because my colors always wound up feeling basic #i think it works better in lighting situations where the light’s color is neutral #i used a bunch of gradient maps and overlay layers to try and fix it bc it was looking VERY muddy and weird #and i think i did successfully save it after a lot of frustration #but i will likely not be trying this method again cause i like using funky lighting and colors #art #fanart #digital art #dc comics #tim drake fanart #tim drake robin #tim drake #red robin fanart #robin fanart #dc robin #robin #red robin

Sometimes I just sit here and think of the fact that every time someone hallucinates Jason Todd, they hallucinate him in his Robin mantle, barely out of it.

For everything that happened, actually, I think Jason would love to die as Bruce's son — except, he didn't.

He died no one's son. He died as Robin.

But most importantly, he was remembered like that. Like no one's son, just a failed sidekick. So now, when his family wants his ghost to haunt them for their mistakes, guilt and saviour complexes, they taint their memories of a boy that was their family once by moulding him in a faceless mantle.

Isn't that just Sad.

Time to take down Autism Speaks

A man called David Page started this on Tiktok. His autistic son took his life, and due to that he wants to make a change, he wants to shut down the organisation Autism Speaks.

Why?

Only around ONE PERCENT of Autism Speaks' revenue goes to helping autistic people and their families.

Autism speaks supports eugenics. They want to cure or get rid of autism. Autism can't be cured, it should be accepted and accommodated.

The majority of the people working there are not autisic.

They spread misinformation and stigma that autistic people should be feared and that they ruin families.

Autism speaks silences real autistic voices

How do we shut them down?*

Call Autism Speaks' phones lines as much as you can this month and keep them busy, so that less donations go through.

Keep their website open this month to overwhelm the server.

Use the #autismspeaks on every social media for random spam, so that its harder for their content to be found.

Live stream! Post! Share other posts! Talk about why Autism Speaks is harmful! Be loud and our voices will be heard.
