laying in bed, remembering that one of the ways people avoid saying "Scheiße" (shit) after they've already started saying the word is "Schhhheibenkleister" (der Scheibenkleister - the window paste/glue)

Wanted to write stories, wrote a bunch, learned how to write. In that order.
Wanted to crochet toys, crocheted a bunch, learned to crochet. In that order.
Want to learn a language... try to learn that language... struggle and quit.
What's the "do" that comes before the "learn" in languages?

btw everything is an aesthetic if you make it one and that's the secret to romantisizing your life. you know those posts that describe an aesthetic in details? notice that those details are absolutely mundane. throw a bunch of details from your daily life together, call it an aesthetic and you got it. just try right now and see how easy it is

First Impressions 🎀
I've had 4 of my 5 classes so far (one doesn't start til october) and I definitely have some thoughts on them, so I thought I'd share my first impressions!
Principals of Accounting II:
the professor seems a bit disorganized, nervous, and semi chaotic but I like his energy
so many people in southern attire, I was a bit surprised
might take a decent amount of study time and energy to keep my grade up in the class, but I'm always up for a challenge and I definitely know I'm capable
gotta figure out a time efficient study routine for this class
Learning (Psychology)
professor has an accent, no idea where he's from, but it's a cool and thankfully understandable accent
feels very content heavy. I definitely want to buy the textbook for this class
need to find a way to stay awake, that's one of the classrooms that make me sleepy
that professor likes to talk for sure (1 hour and 15 min of just the syllabus? man's can talk)
Integrated Survey of Organic and Bio Chemistry
the professor is definitely a science guy, him being the professor makes perfect sense
i really like how he explains and teaches
appreciate that all the content needed is already posted to our class online and all the slides are available already
I love science based classes because I know how to succeed in them and this one seems no different
I have a friend in the class so that's nice!
Intro To Business (Online)
lots of content
lots to do
I gotta make sure I time manage for this class cause otherwise, I'm gonna fall behind
an introduction video?? why not just a discussion post?? ahhhhh
Overall, with working full time, this is going to be an incredibly stressful, incredibly busy semester, but I'm so up for the challenge, and I know I can do it. I just gotta study efficiently, time manage properly, and keep disciplined. I WILL be successful.
til next time lovelies 🩷

learning languages study guide
daily: ♡ vocabulary and grammar practice ♡ lessons (i have four lessons per week at school. if you don't already take lessons, look into free language courses on alison, coursera or 101 languages)
once per week: ♡ translate a short text (i like to translate my journal entries)
one per fortnight/month: ♡ watch a movie in your target language, preferably animated movies as the language used is easier. you can watch with subtitles
additionally: ♡ talk to yourself; your friends; your pets in your target language ♡ text with someone in your target language ♡ repeat what you hear (in a podcast, lesson or movie)
luck with your language learning❤️

部屋探し|Apartment Hunting
Tumblr media
Let me share with you my current struggles on finding a place to stay in Japan with this long vocabulary list!
住宅(じゅうたく)housing, residential building
住宅街(じゅうたくがい)residential area
最寄り駅(もよりえき)nearest train station
共同住宅(きょうどうじゅうたく)residential complex, apartment house
不動産屋(ふどうさんや)real estate agent
物件(ぶっけん)object, property (real estate)
ネット上(じょう)on the internet
掲載する(けいさい)post, insert (advertisement)
家賃(やちん)rent
共益費(きょうえきひ)common fee, utility fee
加算する(かさん)add
月額(げつがく)monthly amount
初期費用(しょきひよう)initial costs
入居する(にゅうきょ)move into
翌月(よくげつ)next month
翌月分(よくげつぶん)next month's rent
礼金(れいきん)key money (fee paid for rental rights)
敷金(しききん)deposit
保証金(ほしょうきん)deposit
清掃費(せいそうひ)cleaning fee
火災保険料(かさいほけんりょう)fire insurance fee
内見(ないけん)viewing
賃貸(ちんたい)lease, rent
賃貸借契約(ちんたいしゃけいやく)rental contract
借り主(かりぬし)debtor, tenant
貸主(かしぬし)lender, landlord
大家さん(おおや)landlord
一時に(いちどき)at once
滞納(たいのう)falling behind (with a payment)
Moving into a Japanese property comes with high initial costs which can be broken down into numerous different fees. Unfortunately, share houses are not necessarily fully excluded from this, but it really depends on the company. I'm glad that I could take some time to work and save up money before going to Japan. The first month will be very expensive.

The 然's
突然,虽然,忽然. and the other 然's can often get mixed up, so here's a quick explanation of some of the most common ones!
突然 (Túrán): This means suddenly or unexpectedly
居然 (Jūrán): This kind of means suddenly, but more in the sense of "surprisingly" or to suggest disbelief at something that happened.
忽然 (Hūrán): This also means suddenly or unexpectedly, but it has a more stronger connotation.
既然 (Jìrán): This is a conjunction meaning "since" or "now that"
既然the weather is great, let's go out!
既然 you aren't busy, let's go watch a movie.
不然 (Bùrán): This means "otherwise" or "or else";
You should study, 不然 you won't do well on the exam.
虽然 (Suīrán): This means although or even though.
虽然 I'm not good at singing, I still like to go to the karaoke.
然 (Dāngrán): 当然 means certainly or definitely and can be used as a reply:
Can you help me with A? 当然!
自然 (Zìrán): This can mean nature or naturally.
China's 自然 is very beautiful.
She speaks Chinese 得很自然.
仍然 (Réngrán): This can mean "still" or "yet".
I仍然 haven't read that book.
依然 (Yīrán): Similar to 仍然, this also means still" or "yet" but it's usually used in more formal and literary works, whereas 仍然 is more often used in spoken language.
果然 (Guǒrán): 果然 can be used to mean "indeed" or "as expected"
This movie is 果然 interesting.
竟然 (Jìngrán): This is an adverb used to suggest surprise or something unexpected.
He竟然forgot her birthday.
显然 (Xiǎnrán): This means "clearly" or "obviously".
This soup 显然 hot.
偶然 (Ǒurán): This means "accidentally" or "by chance".
We 偶然 met at the same cafe.
How many other 然's do you know about? Drop a comment!
