BRUTALLY HONEST effects of hitting my UGW of 45 kg / 100 lbs
So as I’ve mentioned on my blog, I hit my ugw of 45kg in 2020 and since been in recovery (recently rel4psed) and wanted to list some effects of being underw3ight that I noticed.
1. Food allergies. I got sensitive to several foods and drinks while being underweight. Some of them I can consume again after years of recovery. These include: Extreme sensitivity to caffeine & coffee (feel like i’m sick, still can’t consume it and it used to be my fave). Sensitivity to raw vegetables. Lactose intolerance.
2. Heart problems. I have unexplained heart problems since being underweight. I will get suddenly get an abnormally high bpm (200+) while resting at completely random times. This is scary and extremely painful. It hurts in my entire body, feel like I can’t breathe and my jaw hurts. Can last for 5-45 min and will leave me unable to do anything in that time period. Will leave me tired for 2-3 days. Has been happening less in the last year of recovery. Not anxiety related.
3. Memory loss. I would completely forget my sentence in the middle of it. I would forget the entire day and every small detail. Been experiencing both long term and short term memory loss since being underweight. Still struggling with retaining information.
4. Speech problems. Probably related to memory loss. I spoke extremely slow and struggled with forming sentences, and I still do. I struggle with remembering words and will sometimes take a while to form a coherent sentence.
5. Less picky. Incredibly enough, I have become way less picky since being underweight as starving made me desire ANY food available. This has made me appreciate every small taste. Great for learning to eat less desirable “healthy” foods.
6. Loss of good judgement. When I was underweight I had little to no self reflection in my actions. I had my values and morals but the lines seemed to blur as my ability to think properly depleted and I started acting more unconsciously attention seeking and egocentric, without my knowledge. This was in all aspects of my life. I thought I was in complete control but regained common knowledge as soon as I recovered.
7. Constipation. When at my lowest weight, I was constantly constipated and bloated. Laxatives did not work.
8. People acted differently. People treated me completely differently and started treating me like a child and as if I was stupid. They also gave me more compliments and were nicer to me in general. I noticed other girls felt more awkward around me compared to when I was heavier.
9. Mood swings. No shocker but being underweight made my mood swing a lot. I would cry over nothing and act out incredibly when things didn’t turn out. I also acted more kind and timid towards others in general than I used to. I was more careful with hurting others and more sensitive and empathetic in general.
10. Hair growth. I didn’t really notice my hair growing faster on my body but my hair on my head got a lot longer.
Honorable mentions: Constant unexplained bruising, constant cold feeling, feeling sick almost every day, childish behaviour in general, didn’t feel mature and indulged in very childish hobbies & likes. Dumbed myself down on purpose a lot due to memory loss & speech issues.

this is stupid and normally i don't believe much that posting about your personal life could be useful to other people but fuck it, i want to talk about what happened to me this year as i both somehow started feeling the celiac i've probably had for years and was diagnosed with it. two important lists! don't use this to diagnose yourself, i'm not an armchair doc, but this was my experience with this funny disease.
THINGS I THOUGHT CELIAC DISEASE WAS AS I GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND SICKER OVER TIME:
lingering stomach issues/ a sensitive stomach combined with a caffeine/lactose intolerance that i took an excess amount of pepto-bismol for. i ate fucking cream of wheat a lot because i thought it was a "simple food" that would calm my stomach. how was i to know?
a bad hangover, because after one specific day drinking out with friends it just seemed to get worse and so much worse. (i had had pizza that day and even alcohol with gluten in it, i know now). this spiralled, as i continued to get worse and worse. i feared liver failure, kidney damage, thought somehow i'd managed to drink enough to permanently harm myself despite being very careful about my alcohol intake due to family history.
see previous. kidney damage/failure. liver damage/failure. SIBO (small intestine bacterial overload) or other such small intestine/large intestine issues. ulcers. i feared every single stomach/small intestine/large intestine condition with vaguely overlapping symptoms that seemed accurate to what i was experiencing. it was at this point that i wound up in the ER for the first of several times.
a viral stomach infection, because that's what the people at the ER told me it was the first time i went before sending me home :) nevermind the fact i told them i'd been sick for a long time. long enough that even if it had been a viral illness, something would have been Really Wrong.
endometriosis/ovarian cysts/ some kind of uterus/hormonal-related misery that had somehow gotten bad enough to affect other parts of my body. irrational thought? probably, but i was panicking. people want answers when they're panicking and feel like they're getting weaker and sicker by the week with no end in sight.
dehydration alone. no other issue here, you just don't drink enough water. you're also strangely losing weight and suffering some kind of malnutrition? maybe you need to eat better. this was after going to the ER a second time, and being dismissed as dehydrated because i didn't drink enough water. i was confused. i drank water- enough of it that i should have been fine. i had never let it go to the point of suffering ill effects, but i didn't want to question anyone- you say it's my fault and don't question whether or not my gut is even fucking absorbing the food, electrolytes, and water i'm giving it? sure thing boss. my bad.
at some point i genuinely just assumed i was dying of something, not even going to lie. call me dramatic if you will but people do not take being incredibly sick constantly for eight months nonstop with grace. i was paranoid i had some kind of cancer no one was recognizing, or permanent intestinal damage of some kind.
THINGS I EXPERIENCED WITH CELIAC WHILE UNWELL:
Gas, bloating, a constant strange sense of discomfort in my guts, etc- a lot of gastrointestinal symptoms you'd equate with having some kind of stomach flu or stomach ulcers.
Bad acid reflux.
Constant nausea to some degree. Sometimes bad enough that it left me retching for half an hour, sometimes just a vague queasiness that drove me insane. I never threw up once over the span of this eight months, but I gagged and retched and felt like I was Going To constantly over this span of time. This was the worst to me personally, despite the pain and discomfort of everything else. I am still prone to anxiety attacks whenever I feel myself possibly getting even slightly nauseous now. Funnily, thought, I am not afraid of the concept of throwing up.
Bad stomach cramping, internal pains.
Awful fatigue. Like, BAD fatigue. Keep in mind, I already live with arthritis and mental illness, so I'm used to managing fatigue- but up until I started feeling Celiac symptoms, I had it firmly under control with medicine. I could barely feel awake at any time of day, I would sleep for 18-20 hours straight at times, all too often I couldn't even muster up the energy to move when I wanted to. I'd just lie there and feel like I was about to shut down and fall asleep again.
Brain fog, exacerbations of all the other symptoms of my other conditions. etc. Any mental health condition I had that I had previously had under control? Nope. You are the pinnacle of misery now.
Perpetual dehydration and malnutrition despite my best attempts at vitamins/hydration/electrolyte consumption and so on and so forth. None of that can do much for you when your body isn't absorbing anything. I also dropped weight like a stone.
No appetite whatsoever, of course.
When it got really bad, the insomnia I already had became so much worse. I suddenly couldn't sleep no matter how hard I tried, sometimes even with the application of my insomnia medication. I would be stuck awake until I physically could no longer handle that, and then I'd be out again for up to 18-19 hours or more.

this is adjacent to the food ask that the other anon sent- do any of your characters have food-related issues? you mentioned Danny's lactose intolerance, but are there some foods that the cast just can't have or else their stomach will Fucking Riot?
i can't really think of anything that i didn't mention! i figure it would be weird to randomly say caroline has IBS or elaine has celiac's disease when we haven't seen that at all fjksdjsj sorry this is a boring answer!! i think elaine does have a sensitive stomach though, she eats like a bird. idk if this counts, but casper doesn't drink caffeine or smoke weed because they both make him super anxious and nauseous, rip (alcohol does too but he drinks anyway because college). ummm austin always gives up sugar for lent so it makes him sick when he eats it again? mikaela hates fake sugar sweeteners because they give her a headache (REAL!!! aspartame gives me and my dad the worst migraines ever)
you know what i'm making this up on the spot but sadie strikes me as a kid with a peanut allergy

You know what’s silly that I was thinking about is that I love the rituals surrounding coffee and tea but I don’t really drink either… nothing sounds more appealing to me than being a regular at a quaint cafe where I sit outside every morning sipping on a cappuccino and watching people walk by… however I am sensitive to caffeine eg it fills me with dread and anxiety so I only ever get a coffee as a special treat and it needs to be decaf and alternative milk due to lactose intolerance😞 which feels so gauche as to ruin my quaint fantasy
as for tea I have dragged my family before to tea rooms because I love the little sandwiches… biscuits… don’t even get me started on the scones with clotted cream and jam… as for tea herself though? I’m starting to understand her but I still do not know if I’ve ever met a cup of tea that I’ve liked enough to finish💔my brother has tried his best to convert me but I remained unconvinced. I respect tea drinkers though and I’m sure you would make a very good cup of tea though… I’m earl grey-curious I’ve never had it but it sounds tasty…
i think appreciation for the rituals and an honest effort made makes you an honorary tea and coffee drinker even if you do not partake bab xx i personally cannot do coffee unless it is sweetened beyond recognition and thats on me but tea!! tea is my husband really!! tea is everything making tea for someone is everything...you wake up -> tea. you get home -> tea. something terrible happens -> tea. something lovely happens -> tea. nothing at all happens -> tea. you are watching tv in the evening -> tea. it rains -> tea. she is so versatile...she is a remedy for all afflictions and distresses...a cup of tea wordlessly made is a love declaration. 2 me. i wish you the best of luck on your tea (and coffee) journey...have you tried lemon and ginger with honey? she is a favourite of mine...earl grey very good too...i will make tea for you sometime bab..

Pre Workout Vegan Protein Powder: Fueling Your Fitness Journey
In the realm of fitness nutrition, pre-workout vegan protein powder has emerged as a prominent choice for those embracing a plant-based lifestyle. As more individuals turn to vegan diets for health, ethical, or environmental reasons, finding effective and nutritious pre-workout supplements becomes crucial. Let’s delve into what sets pre-workout vegan protein powder apart and how it can enhance your fitness regimen.
Understanding Pre-Workout Vegan Protein Powder
Pre workout vegan protein powder are specially formulated to provide an energy boost and muscle support before exercise. Unlike traditional protein powders that often derive their protein from animal sources like whey or casein, vegan protein powders utilize plant-based proteins. Common sources include pea, hemp, brown rice, and soy proteins. These plant-based options are designed to offer a comprehensive amino acid profile, crucial for muscle repair and growth, making them ideal for those who avoid animal products.
Key Benefits of Pre-Workout Vegan Protein Powder
1. Enhanced Muscle Recovery and Growth: One of the primary benefits of pre-workout vegan protein powder is its ability to support muscle recovery and growth. Plant-based proteins contain essential amino acids that aid in repairing and building muscle tissues, which can lead to more effective workouts and faster recovery. This is particularly valuable for those engaging in high-intensity training or resistance exercises.
2. Increased Energy and Endurance: Many pre-workout vegan protein powders are enhanced with additional ingredients to boost energy and endurance. These may include natural stimulants like green tea extract or caffeine from sources such as guarana or yerba mate. Additionally, these powders often contain B vitamins and electrolytes, which help maintain energy levels and hydration, allowing you to push through challenging workouts.
3. Digestive Comfort: Plant-based proteins are typically easier on the digestive system compared to dairy-based proteins. They are less likely to cause bloating or gastrointestinal discomfort, which can be common with whey or casein protein. This makes vegan protein powders a suitable option for those with lactose intolerance or sensitive stomachs.
4. Nutrient-Rich Formulas: Many vegan protein powders are formulated with a blend of nutrients beyond just protein. They may include added vitamins, minerals, and fiber, contributing to overall health and enhancing exercise performance. For instance, some powders are fortified with antioxidants, which can help combat oxidative stress caused by intense physical activity.
How to Choose the Right Pre Workout Vegan Protein Powder?
Selecting the right pre-workout vegan protein powder involves considering several factors:
Protein Source: Opt for powders that use high-quality plant proteins such as pea, hemp, or brown rice. These sources are known for their complete amino acid profiles, ensuring you receive all the essential building blocks for muscle repair.
Additional Ingredients: Look for powders that include performance-enhancing ingredients like natural energy boosters, electrolytes for hydration, and recovery aids. Ingredients such as beetroot powder or branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) can further enhance your workout effectiveness.
Flavor and Texture: Vegan protein powders vary in taste and texture. Some may have a grainy texture or a strong plant flavor, so choose a product that blends well and tastes good to ensure you stick with your supplement routine.
Brand Reputation: Research brands to ensure they adhere to high-quality standards and transparency in ingredient sourcing. Reputable brands often provide detailed information about their product formulation and manufacturing processes.
Incorporating Pre-Workout Vegan Protein Powder into Your Routine
For optimal results, consume pre-workout vegan protein powder about 30 to 60 minutes before your exercise session. This timing allows the nutrients to be absorbed and utilized by your body, providing the necessary energy and muscle support during your workout. Mixing the powder into a smoothie, shake, or even with water can be a convenient way to incorporate it into your pre-workout routine.
Expanding Your Fitness Nutrition Knowledge
As you integrate pre-workout vegan protein powder into your fitness regimen, keep exploring other plant-based supplements and nutritional strategies. The plant-based market offers a variety of options designed to complement different aspects of fitness and health. Whether you're aiming to improve endurance, enhance muscle recovery, or support overall well-being, understanding and utilizing the right supplements can play a significant role in achieving your fitness goals.
Conclusion
Incorporating pre-workout vegan protein powder into your fitness routine can be a game-changer for those seeking plant-based nutrition. By offering essential amino acids, boosting energy and endurance, and promoting digestive comfort, these powders support muscle recovery and enhance workout performance. When selecting a pre-workout vegan protein powder, consider the protein source, additional ingredients, flavor, and brand reputation to find the best fit for your needs. Consuming the powder about 30 to 60 minutes before exercise ensures you get the most benefit from its nutrients. As you continue to explore plant-based supplements, you'll find numerous options that can further support your fitness journey and overall health.

Why Does Coffee Make My Stomach Hurt?
Tumblr media
Love coffee, but the feeling isn't always mutual? If your morning cup leaves you with a grumbling stomach, you're not alone. Coffee affects everyone a bit differently, and for some, it can trigger some not-so-pleasant digestive issues. Let's break down why coffee might make your stomach hurt and what you can do about it. It Might Be the Caffeine Coffee's most famous ingredient is caffeine, and that natural stimulant does more than just wake you up. Caffeine kicks your entire digestive system into high gear. For some, that means faster "transit time," leading to loose stools or diarrhea. Others might feel those caffeine jitters as cramps or bloating. How much caffeine is too much? A moderate amount of caffeine is considered around 400mg a day, but sensitivity is personal. If you notice your stomach troubles line up perfectly with your coffee breaks, it's worth experimenting with cutting back. Coffee's Acidity: A Factor to Consider Coffee beans naturally contain several types of acids. These acids contribute to coffee's signature tangy flavor but also can boost your stomach's acid production. For people with sensitive stomachs, this extra acid can mean irritation, pain, or even heartburn-like symptoms. Myth-busting: Coffee and Ulcers While coffee's acidity might be uncomfortable, there's little evidence it directly causes ulcers. However, if you have ulcers or gastritis, coffee can seriously aggravate those conditions. Lean more about Effects of Coffee on the Gastro-Intestinal Tract: A Narrative Review and Literature. Are You Especially Sensitive? Sometimes, it's not the coffee itself, but your body's unique makeup that's behind the tummy trouble. If you have existing digestive conditions, coffee could be a major trigger. - IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome): Caffeine and the other compounds in coffee can set off IBS symptoms for many sufferers. Visit the International Foundation for Gastrointestinal Disorders for more information on managing IBS. - Gastritis: This inflammation of the stomach lining makes it more vulnerable to irritation from coffee. - Food Intolerances: If you find dairy bothers your stomach, even a splash of milk in your coffee could be the culprit. Don't rule out the doctor If coffee-related pain is frequent or severe, always talk to a doctor. It could be a sign of an underlying condition that needs professional attention. Other Things in Your Coffee Coffee's not always the only suspect. Consider these other sneaky sources of tummy upset: - Dairy: Lactose intolerance is super common, causing bloating and cramps. Switch to black coffee or try a plant-based milk alternative. - Sugars and Sweeteners: Real or artificial sweeteners can bother some stomachs. Try coffee with just a touch of sweetness or none at all. Tips for Enjoying Coffee (If it Works for You) Don't despair! There are ways to minimize coffee's stomach-irritating effects: - Choose Low-Acid Blends: Look for brands specifically labeled as "low-acid". - Cold Brew to the Rescue: Cold brew tends to be less acidic than traditional hot coffee. - Never on an Empty Stomach: Having food in your system acts as a buffer against coffee's punch. - Listen to Your Body: Ultimately, if that cuppa joe makes you miserable, it might not be worth it. Coffee Alternatives If you need to ditch the caffeine or reduce your intake, here are some options with less digestive impact: AlternativeNotesHerbal TeasWide variety, many are caffeine-freeChicory RootCoffee-like flavor, but milderDecaf CoffeeStill has some caffeine, but much less FAQs - Q: Can I still drink coffee if it upsets my stomach? - A: Maybe! It depends on how severe your symptoms are. Try the tips above (low-acid coffee, not on an empty stomach, etc.). If things don't improve, it might be wise to cut back or take a break from coffee. - Q: Does dark roast coffee have less acid than light roast? - A: Surprisingly, it's the opposite! Dark roasts tend to be slightly less acidic, making them potentially easier on the stomach. - Q: Is there any way to make coffee less acidic? - A A tiny pinch of baking soda (seriously, just a pinch) can help neutralize some acidity. Be careful, too much will make your coffee taste awful! - Q: What are some good coffee alternatives? - A: There are many delicious options! Herbal teas come in a wide variety and many are naturally caffeine-free. Chicory root offers a coffee-like flavor with a gentler profile. Decaf coffee still has some caffeine, but significantly less than regular coffee. - Q: Can adding milk or cream to coffee make it upset my stomach? - A: Absolutely! Lactose intolerance is quite common, and dairy products can cause bloating and cramps. If you suspect dairy is the culprit, try black coffee or a plant-based milk alternative like almond or oat milk. Did you know? Some people swear by adding a pat of butter or a spoonful of coconut oil to their coffee. While the jury's out on if this actually makes coffee gentler on your stomach, it's a popular trend in the wellness world! Key Takeaways - Coffee can cause stomach upset due to its caffeine content, acidity, or other ingredients you add. - Individual sensitivity to coffee varies greatly. - If coffee bothers your stomach, try low-acid varieties, cold brew, or reducing your intake. - When in doubt, talk to your doctor, especially if you have existing digestive conditions. It's Not Just Coffee: Other Culprits to Watch Out For Sometimes we blame the coffee, when the real villains lurk elsewhere in our morning routine: - Stress and Anxiety: When you're anxious, your gut goes haywire too. If you notice your coffee woes are worse on busy days, stress might be amplifying the problem. For strategies on managing stress and anxiety, check out resources like the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. - Over-the-Counter Medications: Some painkillers (like ibuprofen or aspirin) can irritate the stomach lining. Could this be happening when you take medicine with your coffee? - Spicy Food: Love a fiery breakfast with your coffee? Spicy foods are notorious for causing digestive upset, and when paired with coffee, it could be a double whammy. - Artificial Sweeteners: Found in diet drinks and those little sugar packets, some artificial sweeteners are poorly digested and can lead to gas and bloating. Think about your overall morning routine. Could other factors be making your coffee-related stomach problems worse? Pros and Cons of Coffee Let's be fair! While coffee has its downsides, it can also have benefits. Here's a quick table: ProsConsBoosts energy and alertnessCan disrupt sleep if consumed too late in the dayMay offer some health benefits (reduced risk of certain diseases)Can contribute to anxiety for some individualsCan be a comforting ritualPotential digestive problems, especially if you're sensitive Should you ditch coffee altogether? That's up to you! Weighing these pros and cons can help you make an informed decision. Conclusion Whether you're a die-hard coffee lover or it never quite agreed with you, understanding why it might upset your stomach is key. Experiment with different brewing methods, switch up your beans, and pay attention to what your body is telling you. It might take some trial and error, but with a little effort, you can find a way to enjoy your favorite beverage without the discomfort. Fact: Time matters! Drinking coffee on an empty stomach is more likely to cause trouble. Having it alongside a meal helps minimize irritation. Have you found any tricks to make coffee easier on your stomach? What are the risks of eating dark chocolate? How much dark chocolate can a person safely eat in one day?
Even though dark chocolate has health benefits, there are a few things to keep in mind:
Calorie and Sugar Content: Dark chocolate packs a caloric punch. Depending on the cocoa percentage and added ingredients (like sugar, nuts, or caramel), it can be high in sugar too. Eating too much can lead to weight gain and blood sugar spikes.
Caffeine: Dark chocolate has some caffeine, which can trigger issues like headaches, anxiety, or sleep problems in sensitive people, especially if eaten at night.
Migraine Risk: For some folks, tyramine and phenylethylamine in dark chocolate can contribute to migraines.
Heavy Metals: Trace amounts of heavy metals like lead and cadmium might be present in lower-quality dark chocolate. These can build up in the body over time and cause health problems.
Other Considerations: Milk chocolate can cause digestive issues for those with lactose intolerance. Additionally, dark chocolate might interfere with certain medications.
Safe Daily Amount:
The recommended daily amount of dark chocolate varies depending on individual factors like health, weight, and activity level. A common recommendation is a moderate serving size, around 1-2 ounces (30-60 grams) daily.
Here's how to enjoy dark chocolate safely:
High Cocoa Percentage (70% or higher): Generally means less sugar and more health benefits.
Look for Reputable Brands: These are less likely to have high levels of heavy metals.
Moderate Intake: Enjoy dark chocolate as part of a balanced diet, not a free-for-all.
Check Ingredient Labels: If you have allergies or sensitivities, be mindful of added ingredients like nuts or dairy.
If you have any underlying health conditions or concerns, talk to your doctor before indulging in dark chocolate.

Mocha, a delicious coffee beverage made with espresso, milk, and chocolate, has become a favorite among coffee lovers worldwide. However, recent studies have shown that this popular drink may not be suitable for immortal beings.
Scientists have discovered that immortals, or beings who do not age and live forever, have unique biological properties that make them unable to fully enjoy the taste and benefits of mocha. One of the main reasons for this is the inability of their bodies to process certain elements found in the drink.
Mocha is made with espresso, which is high in caffeine. While caffeine is a stimulant for most humans, it has little to no effect on immortal beings. This is because their bodies do not experience fatigue or require the same energy boost as mortals do. Therefore, the caffeine in mocha would be unnecessary and could potentially cause negative side effects.
Additionally, the milk in mocha contains lactose, a type of sugar commonly found in dairy products. Immortals have a unique digestive system that is not designed to handle lactose, making them lactose intolerant. Consuming milk-based drinks, like mocha, could lead to discomfort, bloating, and other digestive issues for immortals.
Perhaps the most significant reason why elements are incapable for mocha for immortals is the chocolate used in the drink. Chocolate contains theobromine, a natural compound that is toxic to many animals, including immortal beings. While they may not suffer the same fatal consequences as other creatures, theobromine in chocolate can still cause discomfort and illness for immortals.
In addition to the chemical components, immortals also have a different perception of taste compared to mortals. Studies have shown that they have a heightened sensitivity to certain flavors, making the taste of mocha less appealing to them.
While mocha may not be suitable for immortals, there are still plenty of other delicious options for them to choose from. Herbal teas, fruit juices, and even plain water are all acceptable choices for immortals looking for a refreshing drink.
In conclusion, while mocha may be a beloved beverage for mortals, it is not recommended for immortal beings due to their unique biological makeup. While it may not have the same effect or taste for them, immortals can still enjoy a variety of other delicious and fulfilling drinks. Cheers to all beings, mortal and immortal alike!

Confinement in Singapore: Complete Guide You Need To Know
The time of confinement is the best time to recuperate from birth to restore your health and begin to nurse your infant. It is essential to take adequate rest and eat a healthy diet to be well rehabilitated. A lot of confinement practices were rooted in the past and handed through generations. Although each tradition has different rules, however, there are a few common rules and guidelines, diets, and other essentials you have to be aware of. Confinement: Do’s & Don’ts.
Does Get Extra Help, If Necessary
The confinement time is designed for mothers to receive the most rest they can to fully recover from the birth of their child. Nursing can make you exhausted because of the hormonal effects. It is recommended to refrain from strenuous exercise or lifting heavy objects for three months after birth, to allow you to fully recover. During this period, it is possible to seek the assistance of a family member or confine a nanny to care for the baby and help with chores of the household. Don’t be afraid to seek assistance if you require help.
Tumblr media
Do You Have a Proper and Nutritious Diet?
The diet you choose to eat is an integral aspect of recovery, and diverse cultures have their own ways of determining what foods to consume and the foods to stay away from. But the goal stays the same. The diet should eliminate “wind” within the body and improve blood circulation. It also boosts the flow of milk and strengthens joints. For instance, the Chinese custom involves drinking tea with dates that are red or eating chicken prepared with sesame oils as well as traditional tonics that consist of ten herbs. Also, stay clear of food that was cooked earlier in the day. In Malay tradition, the focus is on eating “heating” food items while drinking a drink known as Jamu is made to keep one warm. Chicken cooked in garlic, milk, and garlic with herbs form part of the diet of confinement for Indians.
Avoid Drinking Cold Drinks
Drinking cold drinks is thought to cause a “cooling” effect, which reduces recovery time and can result in a decrease in health. It is recommended to drink hot drinks, and many traditional practices suggest the consumption of hot teas as a part of the diet for confinement.
Tumblr media
Foods To Avoid During Confinement
Caffeine
This may be a problem for those who drink coffee, even though you’ve probably already learned to reduce your consumption of coffee during pregnancy. But, caffeine could be absorbed into breast milk and cause irritation to your baby’s digestive system because it’s still weak. It may also increase the heart rate, which can cause insomnia. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid drinking caffeine as much as you can during your nursing. It is also recommended to limit the amount of chocolate you consume since it is a source of caffeine.
Spicy Food
Consuming spicy foods could cause discomfort to your baby as they breastfeed however the degree of discomfort may differ among infants. Additionally, it can cause discomfort in your abdomen, constipation, or constipation that can hinder the healing of your uterus, if this persists for an extended period of duration.
Citrus Fruits
Lemons, limes, and oranges may cause rashes and discomfort in your baby because they can irritate the digestive tract of your baby. This is particularly true if you consume them regularly and in large quantities.
Seafood
Although fish is often a component of diets that are restricted, it’s not advised to eat other fish as they could have high levels of mercury that can trigger gastric problems in your infant.
Dairy Products
Dairy products like yogurt and cheese are different kinds of food that may upset your stomach as well as cause stomach discomfort. They may also trigger allergies, particularly those who are lactose-intolerant.
Oily & Salty Foods
New mothers have an unbalanced digestive system, which causes them to be more susceptible to diarrhea and constipation, and oily foods can make the intestines more sensitive. Foods that are salty can cause drinking water loss, thirst, and a decrease in lactation.
Cold & Raw Foods
Drinks and food that are cold as well as raw foods can cause upset to the spleen and stomach, and stop the release of toxic fluids in your body. “Cooling” foods are covered in the category and include examples of watermelon pear, persimmon, coconut, and green bean as well as tangerine, radish watercress, water spinach, Chinese cabbage, and winter watermelon.
Best Foods To Consume During Confinement
Turmeric
Turmeric is a rich source of nutrients like magnesium, potassium, fiber, Vitamin B6 as well as Vitamin C. It can help fight diseases and indigestion. Drink warm milk with a teaspoonful of turmeric. New mothers adhering to the tradition of Indian confinement techniques use turmeric in their dish known as Hariri to enhance their meals.
Black Pepper
Black pepper is one of the “heating” ingredients that are believed to help to treat the body. A lot of belief systems suggest that the pores get opened when you deliver. It is possible to add black pepper to your food and serve it as a substitute for chili.
Oats
Oats boost your energy levels and are loaded with nutrient fiber, vitamins, and protein that fight constipation. They also aid in helping to maintain and build your milk supply when nursing. Oats are a great option to incorporate into your diet oatmeal, oats, and milk, topped with fruit and oatmeal biscuits.
Salmon
Salmon is rich in protein that helps heal wounds, and zinc, which can help combat postpartum depression. It is possible to steam it, bake it, or fry it in the way you want.
Pork Liver
Pork liver is a fantastic supply of Vitamin A as well as iron, which helps replenish blood loss following the birth of a child. But, be sure to consume it in moderation, as it’s also rich in cholesterol and uric acid. It is possible to find the flavor of the liver pork is quite strong, however, there are many ways to cook this dish to enhance its appeal. It is possible to stir-fry it with sesame oil and garlic.
Almonds

1/2 I just had a random thought that went into a bit of a tangent. One where Superman & Kryptonians in-general are allergic to cardamom. I have no idea where it came from, but it got me thinking that it would only get a mild reaction, getting in their noses like pepper does us, causing sniffles & a mild rash. Then, I was like, they probably have a reaction to magical plants too. However, the reaction varies depending on not only the individual but the plant too.
2/2 But it works like the magic plants are more effective on them, so a magically toxic plant would be more toxic to them & a magically healing plant would heal more effectively. I then thought to myself that they'd be severely allergic to kryptonium because my brain jumped to the idea that kryptonite is a compound of kryptonium & ectoranium & the kryptonium in the crystals are what allows kryptonite to affect them.
~ ~ ~
i've seen talks about kryptonium and ectoranium being the same material. to me that does make a level of sense. kryptonium is the radioactive remains of a dead planet, it could very well have a ghostly effect.
i also just personally think it would be funny if kryptonians and ghosts had similar immune systems. just in a general sense it makes sense for someone from a different planet to have more immune reactions to our plants and animals. caffeine is literally technically a poison that humans adapted to. aliens would not have that adaption unless their planet had an equivalent. i'm mentally applying this to all aliens, not just the kryptonians. i could see j'on and m'gann having extremely sensitive stomachs. no milk, no caffeine, no spicy food. some aliens even have a thing against citrus. i could also see a few of the aliens being as stubborn as our human ancestors and putting up with the discomfort because ice cream is good. this is why m'gann continues to bake and eat cookies. it tingles so good.
ironically, conner being part human due to the nature of his cloning process, inherited the adaptions and can eat anything a human can. yes, he absolutely gloats at sups. danny likely has a similar thing. ghosts and human food don't mix, even the lunch lady didn't eat anything so much as control the food and try to feed others. but danny has a human stomach and he's gonna use it. we already know vlad isn't lactose intolerant what with the cheese castle.
but that's just the food allergies. in terms of plant allergies, again it depends on the immune system and childhood exposure. in this sense clark actually has an advantage having grown up on a farm. he would have been exposed to many allergens and his system would have the opportunity to get used to them. in that sense conner, being lab grown, is the opposite so he may have severe pollen allergies. m'gan would have less allergies than j'onn but still get em pretty bad. ghosts, mostly being formerly human and having a similar ecosystem with ghost plants, are fine about plant allergies.
but magical plants, now that's where it gets interesting. because those are rare. therefore no one's body has a chance to get used to it. i assume you were specifically thinking about blood blossoms when writing this, and yes i can definitely see the aliens having as severe of a reaction to them as the ghosts. i'm also reminded of the ghost nip concept and think it's too funny not to include as well. clark getting high on chamomile is comedy gold waiting to happen and i need it. i don't know exactly what makes a plant magic compared to anything else. probably some kind of compound, like you said. but ghosts and aliens being equally threatened by these plants has a lot of story potential as well.
i could see the magical enemies the league has, pulling out the stops and downing 5 (including danny) of the most powerful team members with one plant. it could really effect the course of a fight. also presents the opportunity for sick fics. the team try to find a cure for magical plant poisoning, while clark and danny lay dying together in the medbay. and again high clark sounds hilarious.
it's also just kind of convenient as a story tool. if the fight is too easily ended by danny and clark being op, you could keep the fight going by having a substance neither of them can get near. leaves the fight in the hands of less op characters and means we can watch them shine. good ask, buddy, i really like this - Hestia
