Why does she gotta be conventionally attractive. i was talking to my wife abt stuff and she pointed out something that changed my view on this subject forever

for a long time i was highkey bitter about younger people today with their "scenecore" and "nostalgiacore" and "kidcore" and such b/c i was like "you werent there, what are you nostalgic for???? youre all such posers" bc like. i LIVED thru that. i was a kid in the 2000s/2010s and i was Involved in the culture of that time, i know what im talking about when i talk about that stuff. so it genuinely upset me and bothered me when today's kids would be like "i love scenecore :3 lolz XD" when they werent there for when that was like, A Thing. yknow? it felt so disingenuous and fake to me.

HOWEVER. my wife pointed out that its basically the same as like...ppl who were born later being really interested in the 70s or 80s or 90s for example. ppl take interest in cultural periods that they didnt experience and thats completely normal. so why are we treating the 2000s/10s any different

it rly made me think. like man. ive been kinda mean about it i think LOL im so sorry. i had my eyes opened today tho

whenever i hear the gen z stuff, like i give the younger folk flack sometimes but its always in jest ykno, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to think them unfocused and rude. maybe they are, fuck if i know, i havent been in school for years now. but its strange. are they really unfocused, or are you just bad at teaching. pointing at a board and giving out homework is not teaching. no offense. and frankly i sympathize with kids who don't listen to authority; kind of respect it, in a sense. not rudely mind you, but idk. kids been treated like they can't have their own thoughts and feelings and autonomy, they get spoken over and forgotten, their needs are always assumed rather than asked, and then people are frustrated that children are actually telling authority to fuck itself. like maybe if we treated children in a non-patronizing way. they're not stupid, they're not naive. their word holds as much weight as anyone elses, and its that, for me, that kinda like. Yeah. I get it man. you're frustrated, you hate school, you hate doing work you don't care about, you hate the world, you hate everything. but it won't always be like that forever, and i know it wont. so i really don't care for the whole "technology ruined Gen Z" shit. no, parents not understanding how to see their children as people did. parents and communities not even trying to see eye to eye with their kids did. everybody wanna be like. these kids need discipline, bitch okay? these kids need attention and someone to understand. you punish and then give no recourse to better themselves. and theyre not ruined, theyre kids. even "problem" children are kids. and kids can fucking suck, they can be the cruelest motherfuckers on earth and there is no excuse for that. but i just think kids got it real fucking bad nowadays, between the state of social media and the way the world treats them like an afterthought. and when they do matter, theyre being used

my god. i knew people who did coke in high school (albeit mostly rich kids and the people around them). i got drunk for the first time in middle school (i am aware that that is not healthy). i also didn't have sex until i was 19. my ex was having sex at 15; he's never touched a drop of alcohol. i know people who don't have sex and don't drink or take other mind-altering substances. i also know people who hook up w strangers weekly and make the most potent edibles i have ever tried (and they somehow were more wild back in high school, if you can believe it). like. i was 16 figuring out where friends could get abortions in my conservative ass home state, offering up places to stay to people kicked out by their parents, and trip sitting for people on acid. i was also going on ice skating double dates, sending cringey good morning texts w heart emojis, and wasn't allowed in my ex's room w her door closed.
