mental health is definitely the most important thing that u should work on and prioritize in everyday life so here r some ways that u can look after urself ✨🗒️💕

PEN AND PAPER ;

pen and paper is ur best friend, being able to articulate ur thoughts and get them down on paper is a great way to practice self awareness and is a good skill to have in general.

its best not to keep things harbored or bottled up in ur mind and if ur looking to get into therapy a great place to start getting comfy with ur emotions and thoughts is journalling.

this includes things like keeping a diary, doing shadow work, or prompted journalling. just being able to get comfortable and aware of whats going on in ur head is rly good for you.

CHECK-UPS ;

make a habit of checking up on yourself to make sure that ur doing everything that u need to be doing to function at ur best, to make sure that ur feeling okay and making adequate time for you.

some rly good ways to have little check-ups is just preparing some questions to ask urself sometimes (how do i feel?) is the most basic one but asking urself that does help put ur feelings into perspective.

METICULOUS ;

oftentimes, when we neglect our physical care, we can start to feel the effects of that in our mental health and our mood which is why i think that self care is such a major aspect in mental health.

sometimes when we hit rock bottom in our mental health/healing journey, doing self care can seem tedious and like a daunting task. its important to prepare an alternate routine for times like this when u absolutely MUST do a little something.

KEEP A BOOKLET OF REMEDIES ;

sometimes it makes me feel better if i have a little booklet that tells me how to treat symptoms that i might feel, whether thats physical or mental. doing so makes me feel like i have a plan. some notes from my little booklet of remedies include

cuz sometimes, all your missing in ur mental health equation is one thing and its important to know urself and what u need, bcuz you are your own best doctor sometimes.

ASK THE HARD QUESTIONS ;

sometimes we need to be uncomfortable to be comfortable. some questions or some things that i wanna come to terms with/when i need to call myself out on something. THATS LOWKEY UNCOMFORTABLE.

when im doing shadow work and digging deep, THATS UNCOMFORTABLE. but its what needs to be done in order for me to move forward on my journey as a person.

Here's some obscure doll lore for those of you who love deep lore.

When I found these two lovely ladies at thrift stores a few days apart, I had no idea that they actually have a common ancestor!

On the left is Journey Girls doll Dana, produced by Geoffrey LLC and sold at Toys R Us until they went out of business. On the right is Laura Ashley doll Alana Michelle, also produced by Geoffrey LLC and also sold at Toys R Us.

I didn't know anything about Laura Ashely 18 inch dolls until I found Alana. She is actually the older of the two, with a neck stamp dated 2001. She came with a pearl bracelet with a shiny plastic Laura Ashley tag attached.

Laura Ashley was a designer of clothing, bedding, and home decor in romantic, Victorian style floral prints. Laura herself would not have designed these dolls, since she died in 1985. But the company she built is still around, and is still available in a variety of retail stores.

The outfit Alana was wearing is not her original outfit, so I'm not showing it here.

Overall she's pretty similar to the standard 18 inch doll with a cloth body, rotating limbs, and eyes that open and close. She was in a plastic bag when I found her at the thrift store, and so it was hard to judge the quality until I bought her and opened her up. I'm not super impressed. Her hair is thinly and poorly rooted and has some difficult tangles. Her torso is long and her legs are very short. Her feet are so small that she cannot easily stand upright. So I may not keep her (update: she has been sold).

I am keeping Dana, though! In the past I've found three different Journey Girl dolls at thrift stores, bought them, and ended up not connecting with them, so I sold them. But I really like Dana, so she's staying. She's cute and is still in good shape.

Did y’all have to read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane for school? It’s one of the best books I’ve read for school. I love this book. He’s so pretty.

the mysterious grey market clothes are here! alas, i do not have these items in my collection already, so I can’t do any direct comparisons. additionally, the tags were cut out of both pieces, though i will still show the stubs in case they’re of interest to someone.

first, kirsten’s robe.

based on pictures i’ve seen online, both the red plaid and the blue floral collar fabric seem dead on in terms of pattern. it’s hard to tell fabric type from pictures, but they at least look right. the best way i can describe them as someone who doesn’t know fabrics, is they are similar in weight and texture to those pre-cut quilting variety packs michael’s has, and they also kinda feel like the fabric of a bandana? off the top of my head, I can’t think of any ag item I’ve felt that had a similar fabric.

the most notable detail here to me is that the buttons are wrong, though that could mean nothing lol. the buttons are meant to be black and also a different type of button. on top of this, you might notice the top button missing - it was attached so poorly it came off as i was opening the robe (i’ll have to reattach it later).

overall, im relatively sure this was made at least with the same fabric as the original robe. im not sure whether the buttons were changed at some point during the original production of the robe, and I can’t think of a reason AG would change them so drastically for a relaunch. im on the fence about whether this was just in storage somewhere or whether it was recently made.

next, sam’s base birthday dress.

friends who have this outfit officially - is the fabric really slippery and shiny??? it does not have the texture i was expecting at ALL haha. it’s a very similar texture to felicity’s blue christmas gown (but shinier). if that’s not normal, i am leaning towards this being just made off a pattern. i know there’s a tag stub but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything lol.

if the fabric IS accurate, im 99% sure this was just in storage somewhere. the velcro is all wrong for modern AG (hence why i included a shot of the velcro inside).

in conclusion: i still have no idea what’s going on here. nonetheless, im quite glad i was able to add a version of these items for my collection for a good price, whether they are the official versions or not. im especially pleased with kirsten’s robe, which has some absolutely wild secondhand prices.

More new girls-- Journey Girls Alana from the recent-ish Just Play reboot of that brand (not sure of the year, 2022 maybe?), and the Disney ILY 4ever Inspired by Ariel released this year. I was going to be very on-the-nose and call the latter Marina, but I think she's telling me her name is Lily (still not much of a stretch from the original branding but hey I'm terrible at naming things).

I think these two are going to be the last 18" dolls I add to my collection for awhile, at least until I figure out a better display arrangement. I love them, but they take up so much space! I actually placed an order for one of the AG Truly Me dolls on my wishlist a couple of days ago when the she went on a Prime Deal for $75, but after a couple of minutes I thought 'Actually? I don't need this right now.' and cancelled. Amazed to find I still possess some small modicum of restraint now that I have a decent doll budget again XD (the fact that I'd just bought those two Toffees probably factored into this sudden burst of frugality as well ;p).

I have vague ideas about make them some additional clothing pieces--you know me and my need for long skirts--but their stock outfits are cute enough, and I have a backlog of dolls with absolutely nothing to wear who need attention first. Any changes to their attire can be put off as a future worry.
