Can't believe I've watched Return of the Archons at least five times and never noticed that Jim gave Bones his jacket to sleep on as an extra pillow, because Bones clearly insisted on taking the Uncomfortable Slab instead of the bunk beds. (It's also possible that they traded off first watch/second watch, which is why Jim is awake and at the window at the beginning of the scene, unless he insisted on staying up all night.) A very chivalrous action for your doctor who always sleeps with his right arm up over his head for some reason.

Yes, Gabriel was awful while he was stuck in Heaven reigning over the Host. But, when he chose to leave and trust in another being, he changed.

As terrible as the former Supreme Archangel was to Aziraphale, he still knew that Aziraphale was who he would put his trust into. Not God, not fate. Aziraphale.

He also knew that Aziraphale and Crowley were close. If Aziraphale knew Gabriel’s secrets, Crowley would too.

Becoming Jim was the most vulnerable thing Gabriel could do. In that vulnerability, he found humanity. Nuance. What was truly important.

And Jim chose to sacrifice himself to protect everyone else. Even though he was under Aziraphale’s protection (which is hugely important from a historic and cultural viewpoint), he voluntarily released himself from that protection and stepped out into the demon throng.

He did this while he didn’t remember his relationship with Beelzebub.

He did this not knowing what Hell would do to him.

And this was probably the most angelic act he’d ever performed.
