as someone who never believed in god at all, religious people are just incomprehensible and odd to me. it never made any sense to me and i never understood the kind of grip it has on people.
#the chorus speaks#i can only shrug and explain it away with brainwashing and indoctrination#religion and feminism is not compatible at all#its not compatible with modern life either#its a means of population control and manipulation of the masses has that not been obvious to everyone since they were a young child#an educated and thriving population will eventually stop being religious#there's a reason they send missionaries to wartorn countries#and that christianity became so popular amongst enslaved populations#there's a reason the us is still so zealously religious too

THE MODERN DESCENDANTS OF THE ZONAI
In my last post I explained how the game tells us that the Zonai came to Hyrule from somewhere else, and eventually disappeared, leaving just two Zonai behind.
There are only two possible explanations for why they disappeared.
1: They went back to where they came from. Pretty simple. 2: They died out. This is the possibility we'll be looking at.
There are two forms of extinction. Extinction as you probably know it, in which the species just dies out, and "Pseudoextinction" in which the species dies out, but in doing so has given rise to an entirely new species, either through evolution or mass breeding with a compatible species.
We know that Hylians and Zonai were sexually compatible, as Rauru; a Zonai, married Sonia; a Hylian, and started what would become the Hyrule royal family. Though never seen in game, they have surely reproduced by the time Zelda is sent back in time, as she is their descendant, both of their unique magical abilities, light and time, residing within her.
Another potential example of Zonai/non-zonai breeding is the nameless ancient hero, who appears to be Zonai, but his unique Zonai features are somewhat diminished, even lacking the Zonai's third eye entiely.
Oh yeah, Zonais have 3 eyes. Forgot to mention that. Its actually pretty important. The Zonai certainly think it is. The Zonai 3rd eye is very prominent in their artwork and fashion, and in armor and clothing made by Zonai to be worn by non-zonai, importance is given to this region of the head
In fact, when Ganondorf obtains a sage's stone, he places it on his forehead, possibly to mark himself as an equal to the Zonai, a people who the land dwellers once saw as gods. But getting back to the subject at hand here... What if the Hyrulean royals and the nameless ancient hero aren't the only examples of Zonai/Hylian interbreeding?
Here we see Rauru, a pure-blooded Zonai male His hair is naturally white, and he has a 3rd eye in the middle of his forehead. The eye is adorned with gold around the edges of the eyelid. When opened, and couple with the marking on the ridge of his nose, the 3rd eye takes on a very familiar appearance
Do you see it?
Here let me just...
Do you see it now?
I don't believe that the Zonai returned to their own world. I don't believe that all but two of them got sick and kicked all their buckets. I believe that the Zonai interbred with local Hylians to the point that the Zonai themselves, who likely already had a smaller population than the Hylians, vanished, and after further generations of breeding with more pure-blood Hylians, a new type of Hylian almost completely lacking Zonai features rose up in their place, co-existing with regular Hylians. I believe that group to be none other than...
The Sheikah. The importance placed on their bizarre eye symbol. The way their leaders wear that symbol in the center of their foreheads, representing a 3rd eye, which we now know is a literal trait of Zonai. Their penchant for advanced technology. The naturally white hair from birth, and the unusually long life spans despite being classified as Hylians*. I believe strongly that the Sheikah are the closest living descendants of the Zonai. This could also explain why the Sheikah are so dedicated to the Hyrulean royal family, because at its deepest roots, the royal family is as much Zonai as it is Hylian.
*In character logs, Sheikah are listed as "Hylian (Sheikah)" indicating that they're an ethnic group and not a separate race.

It sorta bothers me that post-series people are still complaining about 3Below being disconnected from the rest of Tales of Arcadia. For me, it was a refreshing break from the densely-packed fantasy lore and an intriguing peek at the way the universe beyond Arcadia and Earth functions. I liked the character arcs and interpersonal connections. And there was ample room for me to come up with a bunch of my own headcanons, which I love! I absolutely love being able to slot pieces of my own mind and soul into an existing world! I don't like shows where I'm told how every little detail works, that's way too much to remember. Instead I want enough to create an idea of the rules and how things might have gone/might continue to go and fill in whatever else I want.
Also, I think 3Below was SUPPOSED to be a lot more connected before Wizards got cut down. Tons of ideas didn't make it into the limited series run- I remember hearing stuff about Mordred being involved, a lost Krel arc, and I'm sure a lot of lore that would have bound the worlds together more closely. When they mentioned Gaylen's core came from Earth, there was clearly supposed to be more to that, but it got cut out. I'm like 93% sure Gaylen was a being who was part of or similar to the Arcane Order, but was drawn to the cosmos rather than to a part of the Earth. That would indicate that Akiridion tech and magic are compatible because Akiridions' energy-based life was initially magical, but those roots were largely forgotten because of how old a civilization Akiridion is. They've been spacefaring since humans were cavepeople. If the Order existed from the primeval dawn of the world, and Gaylen left not long after that, Akiridion could be millenia ahead of Earth. Or, heck, maybe Earth was the first or only livable world, and Gaylen created the Order to look after it before going off to try to find or create life elsewhere. I always headcanoned that Seklos was more powerful than most Akiridions or even the Royals that came after her, given the fact her core alone was enough to stop Gaylen while in the modern era it requires two royal cores. Maybe she was created by Gaylen to be Akiridion's version of an Arcane Order type being, and she created normal Akiridions, which she then had kids with, diluting her power in the Royals that followed. There's so much ancient history to unpack from just the tidbits we were given.
As for the modern era, there seems to very distinctly be a major intergalactic connection. The drunk ship operator in episode 3 of 3b s1 that the Zerons interrogate talks about ship classifications, which indicates a universal or at least an interplanetary system of ship ratings. We also see interplanetary tourism, and signs that Akiridion is one of the most advanced and influential planets out there.
3Below doesn't need to continue the plot of Trollhunters to be a valid part of Tales of Arcadia. It brought an energy to ToA that was somewhere between Star Trek TNG and Babylon 5, and I love how it expands the weirdness of Arcadia. If it was supposed to be a continuation of Trollhunters, they would have made more Trollhunters. But it's not Trollhunters, it's 3Below. And Wizards isn't Trollhunters either! I honestly think that Camelot, Douxie, and the world of wizards could have been written such that the Trollhunters cast was much less focal, and that if they'd given the show the time it needed and deserved to tell its story, it would have been fleshed-out and fascinating all on its own, with or without the TH gang. Where are the magic users beyond the reach of Camelot? Are there merfolk, sirens, harpies, dryads, more dragons, or other sapient races living on Earth with their own civilizations and magic and cultures? There are so many worlds and so many potential stories out there, on Earth and beyond, in the Tales of Arcadia universe. Arcadia just happens to be the narrative meshing point of them all. And I think that's a really cool way to build a universe.
Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk, here's more Akiridion development as a treat for making it this far.

Kinktober Summer Rerun 2024: Oviposition ● Plantcest 🌱🌱
【DAY 16】
[#plantcest kv, oviposition, modern setting, vashussy with weird alien anatomy]
“Nai” Vash gasped then whined, feeling himself being lifted off of the floor upon getting home. They had barely made it into their apartment before his twin was all over him. “At least wait until we’re in the bedroom, last time on the floor wasn’t comfortable,” he said, earning a sigh from his brother who had been kissing his neck.
He was already ready to start, pressing hard against the warmth between Vash’s legs, grinding hard. But he still obeyed the young man’s demand, holding him tightly as he made his way to the bedroom.
Once they got there Vash allowed himself to fall backwards, pulling Nai along with him into the bed. In no time he was being ravished again, warm hand nearly tearing his clothes off of him. Not that he was that much more patient, pulling as best as he could at Nai’s t-shirt.
“Beautiful, perfect” Nai said under his breath as he looked down at his brother, pale lines covering his body, more so his navel area. He brushed his fingers lightly over his skin, smiling at how they glowed a pretty pink-ish hue at /his/ touch. No one else they knew, all humans, could bring such a reaction.
His hand then slowly made its way south, going through soft feathers that covered his pubic, before finally reaching his destination. his fingers teased the little appendages that kept close, tracing the seam between them. He smiled satisfied when they slowly started opening up, wrapping around his fingers.
“Look at you, opening up for me so nicely~” Nai said, fingers playing with the little opening appendages, feeling thinner tendrils wrapping around the same fingers, pulling him close lightly. “Your body is as honest as ever” he nearly purred, looking at a flustered Vash.
They hadn’t been doing this for very long, it had taken some time for Nai to convince him even. But really, no one else was more compatible for either of them as each other, not even other plants. It was shown by just how responsive their bodies were when mating season came.
“You are no better” Vash tried to argue, hand sneaking inside his sweatpants, feeling something just as similar gently grab onto his fingers. Nai groaned as he kept stroking and rubbing, something slowly unravelling and pushing out of him. Vash eventually got impatient and pushed his boxer and sweatpants away.
Similar appendages as he had opened up, but instead of showing a throbbing hole what humans would call a cock had slowly come out. A blue-ish colour, with bumps and ridges covering its length up to a somewhat flattened tip. Little tendril at the base, similar to Vash’s, seemingly seeking out something to hold onto.
Once naked Nai was back at kissing Vash like his life depended on it, fingers pushed deep inside of him. It wasn’t really like he needed to prepare him, their bodies were made for each other and he knew he could just trust him immediately if he wanted to.
But he also liked teasing his twin.
Seeing him squirm under him, lightly begging Nai to fuck him already. Looking as he seemed to be burning from the inside the same way his brother was. The way he could feel thick juice cover his fingers and hand, Vash already leaking so much with barely any attention given to him.
“Naaaaaii, pleaaase” Vash whined, legs wrapping around him and pulling him closer.
How could he refuse him so much when he was so adorable and sexy begging for him like this? With a little chuckle, he finally stopped, despite the stamen-like tendril trying to keep him close. They weren’t left alone for too long though as he instead made himself comfortable between his twin's legs, slowly pushing his cock in.
A shiver ran down his back as his own sensitive tendrils were grabbed by his brother’s, trying to keep him close and unable to move away. Showing just how much Vash needed him, how much he wanted to keep him close right now. Not that he would complain.
He cursed under his breath at the way Vash was holding onto him tightly, velvety walls throbbing around him, feeling like they wanted him to stay buried here forever. He’d normally like to go slow and easy with him, but right now he can’t quite stop himself from pounding into him, too overwhelmed by the need to breed.
And Vash’s cries and moans of pleasure sure aren’t helping in keeping him going slow.
So he trusts, in and out, barely able to control himself, grabbing his brother’s waist so tightly he’ll probably have bruises later on. He doesn’t care though, he loves seeing his twin marked by him. Plus it keeps him from squirming too much, letting him hit just the right spot to have Vash cuming on his cock in no time, even more slick drenching the bed.
Then he feels it, a tightness inside of him, feeling so close to yet unable to really get over yet either. His trust becomes less fast but rougher, trying to go as deep as possible. As if reacting to his own body he can feel how hard it is to pull away as his and Vash’s petal-like appendages start holding onto each other, keeping them locked and closed. All he can do is shallowly trust into him, groaning as he can finally feel something travelling inside his length.
Slowly but surely little eggs start being laid inside of Vash, being pushed deeper as others just as slowly pop inside. And he just loves it, seeing the look on his brother’s face as he being filled up with eggs, looking blissed and satisfied, body glowing more than ever, humming slightly.
He knows they won’t keep the eggs, but it still won’t stop his brain from being proud and possessive of this moment. Watching as Vash’s belly slowly start to grow a little as more eggs are being pushed inside of him.
But even when the eggs are doing being pushed inside it’s not quite finished. Nai is soon gently trusting his hips again, as much as their locked body will allow it. It doesn’t bring much friction but it is enough to have him cum properly, filling up the young man with a sweet liquid that should fertilise the eggs and keep the safe.
It only make Vash look even more bloated. If only those stupid humans could see him like this, see who Vash belongs to.
He only stops when he cannot pump anymore inside of Vash, taking a moment to look properly at his twin. Vash always looks so good, but like this he looks devine, just like he should always be, filled up with Nai.
Then he sees arms reaching out to him, Vash whining out his name. It all it takes for him to lean down, allowing himself to be pulled closer, kissing him slowly and gently, more so than he did before. He moves them around to lay down more comfortably, waiting for their bodies to finally agree to let them go.
He can’t wait to be pumping more eggs inside of Vash, wondering just how much he’ll be able to accept inside of his body before it’s too much even for him.
To see him looking fully pregnant is such a sight he cannot pass on.
He also knows, despite his instinct hating it, that it will be just as fun watching and helping Vash lay them too soon. Watching as he slowly push everything out of him, gushing with Nai’s semen.
But for now they can relax, they have a lot of time to do all of this.

What MP3 player? And is it still available! I hare having to muse my phone, and all modern ones require WiFi and that defeats the object of a portable music player!
So about 4 years ago I decided I too was sick of streaming, ads, and algorithms, and was running out of space on my phone for all the songs I wanted to play on the VLC app, so I got a SanDisk/Sansa Clip Jam (the little one on the left)
[Image Description: two MP3 players, next to a hand for scale. On the left is a very small blue one, with a very small and simple white-on-black screen, and a physical button pad underneath the screen. The player on the left is much, much larger, with a larger screen capable of showing color images, and touchscreen buttons underneath. Both players are open to LP albums, but the one on the right actually shows the album art for Churches. End I.D]
Now the little Clip Jam was good for a while and I was glad to have it, but it did have some drawbacks that became clear. Mine was used but I believe these are still being made/marketed. It was twenty bucks used.
Pros (aside from the big one of owning your own media without ads/algorithm
Ultra portability
MicroSD slot for more space
Audiobook-capable, Audible compatible once you register it to Audible
Physical buttons
FM radio
Shuffle capable
NO WIFI, plug in and drag-and-drop uploading
Neutral:
no Bluetooth capability
Has stopwatch
The "clip" in the name refers to the clip on its back, which lets you attach it to clothes and such
Immediately apparent drawbacks:
No external speakers, must have wired headphones to hear anything. They use your standard jack, so I'm assuming you could use compatible external speaker but I never had one to try
Sometimes chapters of audiobooks don't go in order and you have to go in with tag editor software
and sometimes the books upload as one big file, meaning you have to go in with another software to break it up
Thing that made me fully disgusted with the thing after a year or so of frustration:
The HARDware capabilities of the Clip Jam mean that it can only handle two thousand LINES. Not files, lines. Meaning the Artist counts as a line, the Album counts as a line, the songs each count as a line. This is bad enough with just putting music on, but when you add audiobooks to it, the titles of the books and every chapter counts as a line. With an SD card you can add about another two thousand lines. When you use up your line capabilities, the data will be on your device/card but the player won't show it or let you access the files at all.
SANDISK NEVER TELLS YOU ABOUT THIS. It was not in any of the listings for it, it was not in the manual. At. All. I only found out by chance by finally coming across a years-old forum post talking about it after months of frustration while I tried to figure out why half my files (mostly audiobooks by this point) weren't showing
So I started looking for a new one.
...for the life of me I don't remember how I came across the Phinistec Z6, prolly saw it mentioned on the r/DigitalAudioPlayer while trying to come up with a new one to buy for cheap. The brand seemingly came out of nowhere, but it had what I needed. I got it thirty dollars used from ebay. They were still being sold new as of a year ago, I just prefer getting li-ion battery things used.
[Image Description: the players again, the Clip Jam is showing the SD card option, the Z6 is showing a list of Music/Folder/E-book/Bluetooth/Recorder. End I.D]
I don't have an SD card in either and the option only shows up on the Z6 if you have one in.
Pros for the Phinistec Z6
No bullshit line limitation
MicroSD slot for added content
Maybe just a pro for me, but this thing is HEFTY. Not heavy, but dense enough I'm worried you'd crack a skull if you threw it at someone. Wonderful tactile weight in my case.
Long battery life. I think I've had to charge it 5 times in the year I've had it.
External speaker
Wired headphone capable, as well as Bluetooth capable
FM radio (only works when wired headphones are plugged in, the dongle acts as an antenna. This is pretty standard, it used to be that way on phones too)
Audiobook capable. This isn't advertised but it can save your story place in the middle of the chapter. I didn't use this feature too much tho, I got an e-ink reader a few months after. I don't think it's Audible compatible, but there are workarounds for converting those to MP3
NO WIFI, plug in and drag-and-drop uploading
Neutral:
Can read written books for some reason. Not sure why anyone would want to on a screen that small, but it exists
So-so voice recording capabilities
A crappy photo camera for some reason?
Touch screen buttons
Cons:
It doesn't ship with current software, and for the latest update you have to email the company for the download link. Kinda sketch, I'm prolly some Chinese corporation's data bitch now, but seeing as I'm American I'm used to being a corporate (and government) data bitch for my own country anyway
Also had the problem of songs not playing or being listed in the right order. The listing was fixed with the update, but even after tag editing the songs were PLAYING in the wrong order when accessed under MUSIC. When accessed under FOLDER songs play in order, but artists are listed in order of upload then, not alphabetically, so it can get tedious when trying to find the artist you want if you've got a lot of artists on there. Not a deal breaker, just annoying.
No shuffle, but because of the above if you want to shuffle on a specific album just access it thru the MUSIC function
While screen brightness can be turned down, the backlight behind the buttons is blinding white no matter what you do which sucks in the dark if you have sensitive eyes
Isn't as portable as the Clip Jam if you've got small pockets (looking at you, women's jeans)
The external speaker is a bit tinny and higher notes can get a bit staticky (especially a problem when you listen to LP)
Virtually no information out there about Phinistec
I vastly prefer the cons of the Z6 over the hardware limitations of the Clip Jam, all things considered.

how do you reconcile being a feminist, single, and a high-value woman? maybe I'm misunderstanding the concept but I always thought HVW and hypergamy were all very centered on seeking a male partner.
Hi love! Great question. I think your curiosity offers a great opportunity to dive a bit more into my personal views and philosophy.
I believe that the goal of feminism is to protect all women and provide them legal protection, structural resources, and social power to live equitably in society. In my eyes, a high-value woman is one who is unapologetically self-respecting and sets her life up in a way to allows her to work towards goals that meet her needs in all areas of life.
Hypergamy, by its modern definition, is the idea that women "date up" to intertwine their sexual relationships with men to those who offer more or equally high social, financial, or sexual capital to them. The traditional idea of hypergamy was exclusively referred to as "marrying up" as marriage was the only way women could achieve most resources (like a bank account, credit card, housing, and certain medical care – it's so terrifying, honestly).
In the latter case, hypergamy is nearly synonymous with centralizing men. Before women gained certain freedoms (in the U.S. this was mostly in the 1960-70s), centralizing men was a survival mechanism, not a preference or act of self-imposed oppression.
I believe in the modern world where women can have their own bank accounts, careers, and access to birth control (the latter one is an anxiety-inducing topic at this point in time, ugh), women are given the choice to be hypergamous either while centralizing or decentralizing men.
I believe that you can uphold hypergamous standards in your dating life without centralizing men in your life. For me, personally, my relationship or dating status has no bearing on how happy or successful I am in my life. No man (or lack of one in my life) will ever determine my self-worth or reflect my progress in life. My metrics of fulfillment and accomplishment stem from thriving in my professional life, staying in good health, practicing consistently healthy habits (WFPB diet, regular exercise, mental health hygiene, sexual wellness, mindfulness, self-care, etc.), and maintaining nourishing friendships. Dating and my interactions with men (in non-platonic ways) are fun ways I enrich my life, so I believe this mentality embodies the modern – albeit hyper-progressive – definition of hypergamy. Remaining single allows me to enjoy all of the ways men can uplevel my life – socially, financially (to the degree some nighttime activities, such as dinners, drinks, car services, club fees, etc. are paid for – no sugaring activities or anything), and sexually without the aspects of dating men that would contradict my sense of self-respect or autonomy. I'm not personally designed to be a man's therapist or feel like I should have to include a man's needs in all of my life or day-to-day decisions because we're sexually involved with each other. I have a strict vetting process regarding who I will entertain in my dating/sexual life to ensure they're adding value to my life and there's mutual compatibility considering the type of arrangement we're both seeking.
Personally, I believe the only way to maintain equity in dating is to remain single, which allows me to meet all of my other standards in life. I will never sacrifice my life goals for a man, but I do not believe that means you have to approach dating or sexual relationships from a black-and-white perspective. However, if I'm going to date men (which can be a headache for certain), I believe they need to enrich my life in some way – whether that's interesting conversations, gaining business acumen, social relationships, fun sexual experiences, or just learning about different cultures/world perspectives.
From my observations, women who use hypergamy as an excuse to centralize their life or aspirations around a man are glamorizing regressive/oppressive ideologies (like submitting to a partner or relying on men financially) as a last attempt to uphold the patriarchy as women wake up to the fact that having to do all of society's emotional labor plus having to contort ourselves in a world designed for men, namely in our professional lives, is not the truest form of feminism out there (not to mention it's lack of intersectionality, but that's a whole other rant lol). I don't use the "hypergamy" tag on my posts anymore for this reason, though. I believe that many people are conflating the textbook concept of hypergamy with regressive political agendas, which I will never promote let alone subscribe to.
This is all just my take, so I hope it all makes sense and resonates with some members of this amazing community. Every woman should figure out what approaches to all of these matters would make her the most genuinely happy and fulfilled regardless of society's expectations or cultural norms.
Sending love xx

Kepekape, the home world of the Ktletaccete
(this was originally posted in a world building facebook group, but we think you might love reading about it here, too - and have feedback) OK, so. We're working on some world building that's a bit of a challenge for us.
It needs to fit some history we've already written into a series of nine novels. And it needs to serve the story we think we want to write.
We're going to ramble at you here and see if anyone likes our ideas, or has any suggestions or brainstorming to add. But also, we just want a place to write some of this down where someone can read it.
What we've got:
A fairly Earth-like world with life based on two kinds of XNA (it's not compatible with DNA, but works similarly to it). At some point in its past, there was alien contact with life that eventually evolved to be reasonably compatible with the indigenous life. So there are some surprising mixes of lifeforms.
There's been a lot of parallel evolution, so if humans were to visit, they'd see some understandable fundamentals, like vertebrates, arthropods, fish, etc.
The people are evolved from an amphibian-like ambush predator turned omnivorous. They still lay eggs and have a larval form (that looks a lot like a tadpole while still in the egg), and nymph form and adult forms after they hatch. When they reach adolescence, they go through a metamorphosis that is highly adaptable for their environment. To the point where they often look like multiple completely different species as adults.
Now that they've developed a civilization capable of creating a generational starship, their adolescent metamorphosis has become something they can sort of personally control, and neighboring children may grow up to be very different from each other. Personal special interests, economic status, gender roles, family dynamics, and all sorts of other factors of modern stress go into shaping their bodies. And medicine has reached a point where those that can afford it can purposefully induce desired traits.
Also, they're what we think of as hermaphroditic. They can change their functional sex at will, or sometimes the change is induced by stress. Occasionally, someone will end up with one set of dominant sex traits at adolescence and never change after that, even if they want to, but it's rare.
Their family structures are really different from humans, too. But we haven't quite nailed down HOW, yet. We just know that they're not what we think of as nuclear families. Child rearing is very different and fairly hands off. Adults make sure children are fed, but teaching and learning happens much more organically and communally. At least, for most of the countries on the planet. There are, of course, some outlying cultures that have different structures.
Something we want is no capitalism, in the strictest sense of the term, if we can get away with it. Basically, nothing like a stock market.
There are still big social and economic divides, including forms of exploitation. There is, after all, a global government at this point that has the power to focus a great deal of the planet's resources into making a truly huge spaceship for SOME reason. And not everyone is going to agree to that.
So, first big set of questions:
Do we go with some form of communism for the dominant economic structure?
Or is it really a dichotomy like that?
Could there be other forms of major economy besides these two axes that humans have been struggling with for the past couple hundred years?
There are fascism and dictatorship, of course, both of which can use either communism or capitalism for their economic structures. And certainly, there have been that kind of government on this planet, and likely still are. But we kind of want the dominant government to at least SEEM more egalitarian.
These people tend to highly value personal expression and the exploration of skills and arts, almost above all else. It's sort of an instinctual level drive. So whatever social structures they create, they'll at least cater to that drive, if not outright exploit it.
Cooperation and community are obviously important. Partly because we're limited enough that we can't imagine a starship building civilization without it. But also because we LIKE those traits.
One idea that comes to mind is to have an economy that is built on gifting. Where the person who gives the most away gets the most social power. This is not an original thought, though, and is based on what we learned about Pacific Northwest Indigenous cultures in college, so we're feeling a little cautious about that (both because we learned it from anthropologists not the people who've practiced it and because it's not our own culture).
Our goal is to show something that is different and alien SEEMING to most people who've grown up under capitalism or communism, to show that other models can be viable. But we're also very definitely showing that even when you're talking about aliens and other models of social structures, there can be major flaws such as exploitation and oppression.
But, we don't want to say, "See this idea here? This is worse than what we've got now."
We do think the rest of the series of novels does put it into a context that avoids that. But we're hesitant to use a model that's too close to something that's been oppressed here on Earth.
Anyway.
Maybe we could personalize it a bit more? Not gifts, so much as discoveries? The more that someone discovers, the more political, social, and economic power they're awarded?
So, you end up with a whole civilization of people who are trying to one up each other in their respective fields of study and craft.
Now.
Does this society need money?
It could certainly work by using something that is basically money. A note of genius, so to speak. But could it work without it?
Because money does seem to lend itself to stock markets, after all. And if we avoid money, then we avoid the stock market. Maybe we can lampshade it and just say there's no money, that's the way it is, and make it work regardless.
Though, we could just as easily say that there's money but no stock market.
Maybe the idea of a stock market is absolutely repugnant to these people. Basically, "You can't gamble with SCIENCE! And investing introduces bias!"
Hailing Scales. This implies their global government resembles the editorial review board of a scientific journal.
What think you?

SD: Dream a Little Dream of Me ~ 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics
For the sake of this not becoming a university length dissertation, in analysing this program I am going to focus on discussing the textbook example of musicality they display in this performance. (Though there is so much to love about it from costumes to skating technique, but the musicality is 1000 chefs kisses 🤌).
This is going to be a bit tricky to break down in gif form, so please if you feel it necessary jump back and forth between watching the video and this analysis.. I’ll do my best to bring it to life through text!
Before that I really do have to comment on their performance quality and showmanship, and it’s not like this performance is an outlier as a supreme example over their other performances, but it is just such an easy to understand example of what being a truly gifted performer is. In more lyrical/contemporary programs, it’s more subjective and can be said to be too over or under done, this program however.. it’s like they’ve been pulled straight out of a mid century movie. It’s hard for me to say what is their best dance style because they really do excel at them all, but this really is just.. as close to perfect as you can get. Its fits them so well. They have the EXACT amount of expression needed to carry the story, the tone, the movement, interaction with each other, and are able to make it visible for the judges, audience close up, watching on TV, and way in the back row of the arena. This is what we call in the theatre/dance world ‘projection’- that encompasses how long you have to hold an expression for, what angle your head needs to be at, how much to squint your eyes, how much you interact together/to each other as opposed to the audience. Their field of performance is unique bc they have essentially 5 sides they are performing to - 4 sides of an arena and the cameras. Most dancers/ stage actors have just the front. There is never a moment or angle from which VM aren’t being watched.
I can’t even begin to explain how rare a quality and ability to perform like them is, let alone find the one other person in the world as equally charismatic as you and have that performance relationship work- perfect compatibility. Tessa is a freaking superstar. She’s so absurdly beautiful, she has the most gorgeous sparkling eyes and infectious smile. Her face just reads soooo well from an audience POV. It sounds harsh to say but some people just do not have the face for this- and it’s not about being attractive or beautiful- it’s just the ability to read expression. Having features in proportion to all the expressions you need to portray. Same with Scott. It really can not be said enough what a once in a lifetime gift he is to the world of dance/theatre/ performance, LET ALONE skating. I am not exaggerating: he (within their field) is akin to Fred Astaire. Not to get stereotypical, but it is just rarer to find a male performer with that kind of natural charisma, either there are more who have it and are bullied out of it bc dancing/performing is considered “girly” or they don’t have the mentors around them to see that untapped talent/potential for it to be come what it can be. And even THEN it is so incredibly rare to find. There are phenomenal male actors and dancers, but I can’t think of any- out of literal movie actors, that invoke leading man, all-round talent… just that kind of performer you don’t see anymore. Scott optimises vintage style not vintage values on the ice and in their partnership. Scott would not be out of place in the mid 1900’s classic cinema is what I’m trying to say-that kind of performer doesn’t exist anymore and there is something nice about watching watching VM, even with IDing moving in the direction it’s going now, to look back not even 10 years ago and watch this team so brilliantly skate a more traditional style of performance, and also be able to perform modern/current themes and music. VM HAVE NOT had a perfect or easy journey by any means, but by their own retelling they were incredibly fortunate to have families, coaches, mentors who nurtured them exactly how they need to be to fulfil their incomprehensible amount of talent. (Back to S) I am just so moved by him everytime I manage to draw my eyes away from T to just watch him- and the reason why I struggle to stop watching T: bc HE IS MAKING ME WATCH T.. seriously. Challenge yourself to just watch him, and see everything he does himself to shine and also make her shine.. I just can’t comprehend it. He is just so incredibly rare and a freaking gift of a performer.
To bring it back to this exact program and performance now.. I think it is one of the better examples where both of them are equally as stunning, charismatic, equally shine. S was born to be this kind of dancer.. I think is what I’m saying. It just looks so easy for him, it’s not a deep, complicated character like don jose or Christian, but it is a character none the less and is one that he just fits so perfectly. Thinking about how perfectly he expressed Farrucas which was fiery and had this internal rage that manifested as passion and love- he even more perfectly expresses this charming, handsome, leading man with stunning posture and exquisite lines. Everything he does looks easy. I love that BESP commentary where they say “he NEVER looks as though he’s got a problem” he’s doing the most complicated skating in the world to the highest quality, while partnering T seamlessly and with a smile on his face. He just gets that a huge part of his job is to make her look good. It’s not about him- it’s about her. Sorry but it is, and he FREAKING GETS THAT and has not one microfibre of resentment over that, you never see him cringe or wince or get mad at her for messing him up. This goes back to their inspiring work ethic and empathy towards each other and being the best team possible, but to be such a selfless male partner- and be that selfless when he is as good as he is… to have no resentment over that and never wish he’d been a singles skater to have the spotlight for once- nope-he doesn’t want that. Ughhh..
I know that seemed to get off track but it really does go into it- that lack of ego, when you can just be so free to perform bc you love it and you get to do it with the person you love more than anything- all that shows when they dance.
OKAY…
Back on track now.
I’m going to try to hit the big/most inspiring musical moments. (Obviously I’m not gonna hit all of them) (Apologies in advance for my attempt to text-verbalise musical accents).
On this little trumpet (I think it is excuse me if I mix up instruments), you can hardly see it, but S throws T’s arm up and its not her arm that’s expressing that full trumpet trill, but his left arm as he drops it down after throwing hers up. He also give a bit of that smirky face as he does so. Starting with this musical moment bc its so perfect but you barely see it- it’s that kind of attention to detail that is so under appreciated in this program.
Included in this one gif so I don’t waste any: the helicopter spin. This is so subtly iconic and I know I’ve read someone else point out the brilliance of this moment musically, but just let me throw in my own thoughts.
So on the lyrics “Sycamore trees”, that’s over two counts of music. T has her leg extended for one count, and S has his extended for two counts. The second count, with the sound of the music the key drops on “more”, so he continues that spin but goes to a bent supporting leg for the completion of the turn . Together they do the first part of the turn with their legs in second then S finishes it by ronding it derriere. It’s also the dynamics with the way he rounds his leg to the back… he ‘milks’ it to the end of the count.
They use A L L their music. Every single part of it. The counts, the notes, the accents, the syncopation, the breathes in the voices, the character of the voices. This is the brilliance of the choreography but a huge part of it is on VM to express the music like this- this kind of supreme musical expression is unique to VM- they hear music differently to most human beings-let alone figure skaters.
All these little indulgent body movements on the kind of ‘scats’ in the singing. They start off with accenting in the upper body, then as they need to get around the corner to be ready for the step sequence, they continue that same rhythm with their feet- they aren’t just doing the steps necessary to get them in the right spot, its like they’ve got that groove of the dance in their bodies and continue it from their upper bodies to their feet.
Its also how much they emphasise these accents. There’s one movement S does with his head, now he could’ve really thrown his head back, but instead he does a much smaller head movement that is just so perfect for the style of dance they are doing- its the restraint they show as much as it is the complete commitment and abandon to the moment.
The exact same thing a little later halfway through the non-touch step sequence (so I won’t gif it but you can go watch it). I know this got pointed out- I’m pretty sure by Kurt- about how S watches and reacts to T- its him watching her that informs how he does his steps-his steps are his reply to her- as if they were having a conversation - this is one of the biggest examples of Scott being a perfect partner. That they are doing the same choreographed steps but its performed like a conversation-letting her movement inform how he performs his.
The second half of the step sequence is just ….. i really can’t keep using the word perfect (insert the arthur fist clench meme that they were SCREWED on this score). All on one foot. The first few steps are again as if having a conversation he is responding to her saying “a huh, a huh, ok watch this” and they do that last twizzles, then…. PERFECTLY skid out along with Louie stretching out that “oohhhh” lyric, and S’s little shoulder shrug like “damn, you’re good”. (Also mirrors the skid in the finnstep that comes later). I’m not really the biggest fan of when figure skaters.. kinda acknowledge their surroundings mid program.. ie interacting with judges directly, using the boards.. but surprise surprise I love how vm do this here- they kinda go ‘oh shit, gonna run out of room’. I think again bc its so musical and is in the character of the dance it works.
This is a little off topic, but I, with all the in-depth blogging I’ve done on them, really haven’t appreciated: HOW FREAKING GOOD OF A SKATER IS TESSA!!!! Like.. of course, she’s the best ice dancer if all time, a 3x time oly champ, 5 olys medals, 3 world champs, some of the best skating skills ever, (I wrote this before their CSHOF speech) but I don’t even think of her as a skater, and yet Scott I do. I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently and even though I watch her skate on a daily basis, I don’t think of her as being part of the sport of skating.. like I can’t imagine hearing skating terminology come out of her mouth; worlds like ‘rocker’ ‘counter’ ‘spiral’ types of jumps.. I have heard her say ‘twizzles’ and ‘axel’ but it’s just this really weird thing that I don’t associate her with the sport. I probably do Scott bc he coaches, but VM together even I don’t see them as being part of that figure skating infrastructure.. its weird, maybe it’s a generational thing- like I don’t associate them with other famous skaters from before their time (that’s normal I think) but even other skaters in other disciplines from their time- Yuna, Mao, etc.. maybe bc I’ve studied them so long and feel close to them on a personal level, other skaters are more foreign to me but VM are just people. Its weird.
So when I really focus on T doing steps like this, its like ‘how does she do that’. Maybe its bc (and sorry I don’t mean this to sound pretentious) but I really relate to her and see a lot of myself in her, so if I imagine myself skating I wouldn’t have a clue what I was doing, so I think ‘but how can she do it?’
Ok, enough of that, that’s for me to work out in therapy (hahahahahhah 😅)
*MOMENT TO SAY HOW PERFECT THESE TWIZZLES WERE PLEASE GO WATCH THEM ON REPEAT*
The ending of the twizzles- that little clap scott added, as he watches her. (I really don’t like clapping in FS. Except VM- I’m bias you know that) They talked a little in the stupid show about the story of this program- though I feel that’s kinda just to set the scene of it- once that’s done they (maybe) and the audience can kinda let go of that very literal telling of them being on this date and he showed up late and he’s gotta try and charm her.. once that’s established they are really just performing- and I appreciate that bc a) it’s a sport and they have to get the required elements done, but also its not this cheesy, pantomime kinda thing- they perform as though they know the audience is smart enough to understand that without it being spoon fed the story, then they can just wow us all with their dancing. You could just so easily imagine them on stage doing this dance (a version of this dance) they could be on a broadway stage in tap shoes and these exact costumes performing this duet and they would not look out of place-they have such wonderful showmanship they almost look out of place in a sport arena- that’s how good they are! But as I’ve mentioned before, the way they approach their programs, from costumes to structure, seamlessly bridges this divide between the stage and arena-their costumes are athletic and do not impede their skating and also don’t look like idiots dressed in outrageous over the top costumes in a sports arena.
I can’t gif the whole finnstep pattern but god I’d love to!
Firstly a more general comment: and I’ve probably said this before, but something I really love about VM’s skating and all their programs (marina programs and Montreal programs) is the where they put and how they perform the set pattern within their short dances. Some teams I feel hide their patterns in the program by not using highlights in the music, not starting it at the start of a phrase of music, putting it in a weird/unnatural place within the program. I love how VM usually have a different track, and if not, brilliantly edited musical transitions into and out of their patterns. Here in DALD there is a fantastic, fanfare-like musical transition into the instrumental music for the Finnstep, there’s this ramp up to it.. and it’s like this incredibly satisfying beat drop moment as they start the first step in the pattern.
That sharpness of their heads on these first steps. The look to each other then the syncopated ‘down up’ I have watched this whole event but I can’t remember what every single team did, but I remember there were a few attempts to add heads and arm variants in here, but the majority were slower- not really with the music. VM’s is just right on with the style and musical accents. The coordination to do those heads while doing those steps is so hard, it’s so fast and there is so much to concentrate on.
Lastly on this gif is T’s twizzle. NO OTHER GIRL turned this fast. It is such a fast movement anyway, and so many fall behind on that musically. I don’t even know how T does it that fast- how her blades doesn’t stuck is beyond me (an example of why Scott said she is the greatest skater he has ever seen ✅). You can see S is giving her everything he can give her to do that turn super fast- strong hand/finger hold above her head, keeping a secure hold around her torso to keep her on centre, and he stays looking at her the whole time-there’s never a moment they aren’t communicating. The way they bring out the joy and lightness in this instrumental music with their skips and high jetes. THEY ARE ON ICE.. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE???
Sorry to get off topic again, but this is an example of how they work with their limited height difference: In this dance, they seem to have much more height differential. You can especially see that in her twizzle. I can’t comment on exactly how it works between them (and it’s all they’ve ever known) but I like to think S does an enormous amount of work in these pattern dances to make himself taller- he does this but ‘growing’ taller-not literally but in terms of elongating through his spine as much as possible without straining his neck and shoulders. He has superior posture (B A L L E T). His form in holding tessa is impeccable. He is supporting her and is so strong that he not being dragged down in supporting her, she in turn is so strong she could basically do all these steps un-partnered- she is not grasping onto him in the slightest. He is also just so light through his steps, he does not appear heavy. I’m sure off ice he has phenomenal balloné (bouancy in his jumps) so these steps can appear so easy and eleveated while completing every edge and turn to perfection (did you read that right judges!?!?!?)
Moving on..
The sharpness of their feet- T’s turns on the ‘5,6,7, and 8’ counts. (Im sorry I don’t know what the turns are called) but she goes ‘back, forward, back, pick’ its just soooo musical. Both their picks to cou de pied are exactly the same- same shape, same timing. Exquisite
The beautiful lean on those two crossovers as she passes under his arm, then the skid stop is so.. extreme, yet calculated. They are sooo good they can do the craziest shit on ice-not just do the required steps but push the boundaries of whats possible technically- something no other team since them has done. On these quick step flicks they just look stunning, the hold he has on her to make her appear so high and sparkling- not pushing her down.
Im obsessed with the slow, drawn out choctaws, then quick snappy twizzles.
These last steps on the diagonal (not part of the Finnstep pattern) where they hop on one leg and face each other is my favourite part of the program. Omg how precious. This is an incredibly mature program (as are all their competitive programs) but this moment here has such an essence of child-like joy and humour. It goes quick so you cant see their faces but I sense their smiles at each other here was a micro moment for them to look at each other out of character- one of those checking in moments. I don’t know, I just love it, its so pure.. also the addition of another quick step jeté- I think this might be there one there’s a picture of them mid air from Scott’s side so you can barely see T bc they are so in sync.
The button ending with that drop back. Right on the music. Just perfect. Then that little look he gives her like ‘damn straight kiddo’ 😏
It’s not just the dancing and the steps, but also musicality in terms of energy. They’ve just finished the finnstep which is probably the fastest of all the CD’s, then through their energy they tone it down to give layers to the program- this I think helps in making the SD feel like a free dance- that it is not just all one level for 2:50 minutes. I feel so many other teams and their their choreographers/coaches miss that in creating programs by not highlighting moments properly- there is no artistic transition out of the compulsory portion so it all blends into one. VM’s programs highlight all their elements without feeling like useless connecting steps between elements. So I love after the dip back, they have their kiss moment and the next little bit through Cheek to Cheek up till the lift is relatively more chill and indulgent- while not letting up/ having a break. Its like he’s won her over, he’s been so charming and can dance and treats her beautifully, now its just like, ‘ahh, how lovely’ now its about ‘dancing cheek to cheek’.
Their lifts are god tier. They are the best ice dance lifters to ever exist (along with best ice dancers everything else). I won’t go on about the technical aspect of it rn.
Everything that goes on before T gets into her scorpion (thats the position she’s in when he spins) is crazy, then once he starts rotating- the way his speed kinda revs up with the music. Its hard to here but there’s kinda this background ‘da da da da da’ that speeds up and they match it perfectly. Its incredible.
And lastly. I don’t think they had hit that ending right on the music all season, and here: they did perfectly! I think that was part of his ‘yes’ in the ending pose.
#well would ya look at that it became a university length dissertation#to quote T: ‘oopsie daisy’#sd: DALD

Goodbye Grey Sky, Hello Blue - 30
Summary: In an alternate universe where trains and zeppelins are still common forms of travel and the internet and cell phones exist, nineteen year old Peter Parker has few options left after he’s swindled out of his inheritance. Unable to pay for college, let alone keep the house left to him by his deceased aunt, he’s running out of time before he’s out on the streets. Desperate, Peter signs his life over to the Bureau of Civic Spousal Selections to take his chances as the selected husband of a complete stranger. After all, he only has to make it through a year and then he can choose to annul.
Dr. Stephen Strange has little interest in marriage, preferring to focus on his career. When his career is threatened by what a nosy board of directors considers a “lack of personal fulfillment and settling down,” he opts to select a spouse through the BCSS and chooses Peter Parker. The young man’s profile he’d briefly skimmed suggests intelligence and compatibility. It’s not ideal, but if after a year it’s not working out, he can always annul the marriage and send Peter on his way.
It’s a marriage neither truly wants, with sharp learning curves for both. It’s either going to be forever or it’s going to go down in flames.

Chapter 30
_______
They didn't go to Grand Orleans due to forecasts of bad weather, but they did drive the three hours to Upper Manhattan for an extended weekend.
Thursday afternoon found them checking into a fancy hotel. Stephen suggested they rest for a few hours in their room before going down to the Grand Salon for dinner. It didn't surprise Peter in the slightest that "resting" really meant sex and he enjoyed the novelty of being thoroughly debauched in a hotel room with a king bed and a stunning view of the city.
The Grand Salon was a marvel of crystal-like curtains and glowing chandeliers that complemented the rich wallpaper, lush velvet and silk seating. He'd never been in such an elegant, refined place. Everyone was dressed in fine clothes and for once, Peter felt like he belonged thanks to his tailored suit and the reading he'd done on etiquette and fine dining.
"Do you want to see the prices on the menu or would you like me to order for you?" Stephen asked once they were seated and he was handed the day's menu. "I think I have a fairly good idea of what you'll enjoy."
"Please," Peter said, relieved. There was no way their dinner would be anything other than outrageously expensive and he'd rather not have to worry about the cost.
Stephen ordered them both a Cardini salad, baked salmon with squash, spinach, and scallions in a rich beurre blanc, and glazed roasted carrots. He even ordered panna cotta for dessert. Everything was delicious and it was the most exquisite meal Peter had ever had.
"Well?" Stephen prompted as Peter finished his last bite of the vanilla custard topped with a blueberry compote and side of lavender ice cream.
"Rich people might be on to something, food-wise," he admitted. "Thank you."
"It's my pleasure."
Stephen replaced Peter's battered luggage with a new set during a trip to Gimbels the next morning.
"I already have luggage!" Peter protested.
"Yes, and it's falling apart," Stephen said, unimpressed. "You might keep in mind that the set you arrived with is, by your own admission, older than you. It was well used and has served its purpose."
Peter couldn't argue with that. Stephen's gift was a nice set and would no doubt last him for a decade or two.
Gimbels was only the tip of the ice burg. Stephen guided him into L.S. Ayres and he spent a few hours being measured and and given a selection of clothing better suited to warmer temperatures to try on. There was little point in protesting; he needed clothes for spring and summer and he'd put on a few inches of muscle in addition to a few pounds since the previous August - one of the benefits of having steady, nutritious meals for months on end.
And, he had to admit, Stephen's taste was impeccable. Peter looked so far removed from the gangly, underfed boy hailing from Midtown... but he also looked like himself.
"Thanks for all the clothes," Peter said while they ate lunch at the L.S. Ayres tea room. It was a nice place, clearly designed to keep shoppers from leaving the department store for lunch. He enjoyed watching the small group of men and women walking around modeling the latest fashions.
"You're welcome," Stephen said. "You can't exactly be running around Malibu in long-sleeves."
That evening, Stephen surprised him with attending a show in Upper Manhattan's famed theatre district. Peter had never seen such a spectacle but he thoroughly enjoyed the music, dancing, and clever humor of The Music Man.
"I've seen community plays before," Peter told Stephen that night after they returned to their hotel room. "But nothing like that! I think I liked it more than the movies I've seen!"
Saturday morning they decided to spend the day out. He enjoyed exploring a city he'd only been to as a young child and even when they passed near Columbia University, Peter's mood didn't drop. That wasn't his life anymore and the one he had now was turning out to be a good one.
They didn't go to another show on Saturday evening, but Stephen took him to see a movie where they ate hot buttered popcorn and washed it down with fountain sodas.
"You said you've seen movies before?" He asked as the taxi drove them back to their hotel.
Peter nodded. "There was a dollar theater at the very edge of Midtown - the farthest the street trolley would travel. Every movie they showed was a few years old and I only managed to see a few, but I liked them." He considered for a moment. "I prefer radio shows, though. I like having pictures of what everything looks like in my mind and not shown."
"I feel the same way," Stephen agreed.
On Sunday they lazed in bed and barely made the cut-off to order in-room breakfast. They took their time packing and checking out before Stephen drove them back home.
"Have you done this often?" Peter asked as they drove. "Just take off for a long weekend?"
"Maybe once or twice every other year," Stephen said. "I have the amount of vacation time I have banked for a reason. The few times I've been asked to assist in a surgery like the one last autumn I would stay and enjoy a day or two if the city was interesting."
"But you didn't last time. You came home as soon as you could."
Stephen briefly looked over at him. "I had a reason to want to be home."
Work was more or less peaceful now that everyone on the hospital's board had met Peter and observed the two of them together. They'd hosted another dinner for an important pair of donors to the hospital and Peter had them charmed before the appetizers (his famous walnut date bites with coconut whip and sweet potato stacks) were even touched. It almost seemed too good to be true.
It was.
One Wednesday morning a week before his trip with Peter to California, Reed Richards came to his office and asked to speak with him.
"How may I help you?" Stephen asked.
Reed sat. "I very much enjoyed meeting your husband."
He said nothing.
"He's a fine young man and so gifted. I don't want to sound as though I'm bragging but there aren't many people I can talk about oncology, feature scoring, and bio-markers with. Peter kept up without a pause."
"He's a smart young man," Stephen agreed.
"And I can't help but wonder if his potential is being squandered. He was chosen to write for Van Dyne," Reed continued. "If his theories proved true, he could have revolutionized wound care. Stephen, he needs to be in college, not playing house husband."
"What are you really getting at?" Stephen asked. He had an idea, of course, and he could feel his temper rising.
"Your year with the BCSS is up in August. Stephen, I really think the right thing for you to do would be to annul the marriage. Peter had such a bright future ahead of him and keeping him chained to you isn't fair to him. Like I've said, a young man like him should be in college and making his mark on the world."
"Get out."
"Stephen-"
"No. All this song and dance about how you and the others just want me to be happy and now that you've seen I am, you want it destroyed. I'm so sorry I didn't follow your groupthink and ignore a fellow doctor's egregious malpractice, but just because I actually have a code of ethics I follow doesn't mean you get to make my life miserable to assuage your own guilt. Get out."
Reluctantly, Reed left with a parting "At least consider it."
Stephen managed to keep from throwing something, but only just.
The rest of his day passed in a haze and worst of all was the sinking feeling in his stomach.
Richards, damn the man, was probably right.
Peter could tell something was wrong when Stephen came home.
Stephen didn't acknowledge his greeting but went upstairs to change. When he came down it was as if he were going through the motions of a pleasant meal and evening in. It stung a little, considering the effort Peter had put into making the beef Wellington. It was a new attempt, and he'd hoped for even a small amount of praise.
"Did something happen at work?" Peter asked after Stephen bit into a lemon bar.
"Just a colleague speaking out of turn," Stephen said finally. "I'm sorry I'm such poor company at the moment."
"Was it anyone I know?"
"Yes, but what that person said hardly merits repeating," Stephen said. "Don't trouble yourself with it."
"If you say so," Peter said.
"I do say so," Stephen said sharply. He closed his eyes and sighed. "I'm sorry. Just... don't worry about it."
"Stephen... if I've done something wrong, you can tell me."
"Not everything is about you, Peter," Stephen said.
Peter could only stare as Stephen got up and went upstairs. He listened carefully and heard the door to Stephen's office close.
What on earth was going on?
Stephen hadn't been this much of an asshole in months.
Talking with Tony and Sharon helped, at least.
He finalized plans to visit along with Peter and after Tony had to leave for an important SI meeting, Sharon assured Stephen that he'd be able to meet with two of her former colleagues who had a stake in the Quentin Beck case.
"It's kind of funny, though, isn't?" she wondered aloud while they were nailing down details.
"What is?"
"That Peter grew up so poor but somehow had an inheritance to be swindled out of."
He'd wondered about that himself, but there never seemed to be a reason to confront Peter over it. As far as Peter was aware, Stephen knew nothing about Quentin Beck or what had driven him to sign his life over to the BCSS. He'd hoped that Peter would trust him enough to talk to him about it, but apparently Peter didn't think it was necessary.
"A question for the ages," Stephen said.
"Johnson sent me some details and it looks like Beck deposited a hundred and fifty thousand around the time he vanished from Midtown, New Amsterdam."
All things considered, it wasn't exactly a glowing inheritance. Enough to let Peter keep his house and attend college for four years, but after that? Hardly anything to write home about.
Stephen made more than that in a quarter.
It was no wonder Peter thought Stephen's habits were wasteful and still preferred to save money when buying food and household items.
"Is something else going on?" Sharon asked. "You sound different."
He sighed. One of the problems with having friends was that even if those friends weren't former spies and trained interrogators, eventually they'd know someone well enough to know when something was off.
"It's something better discussed in person," he hedged.
"You'd better plan on discussing it when you two get here, then," she warned. "Bottling things up isn't going to help anyone."
"Says the woman who kept secrets for a living," he shot back.
Sharon laughed. "Oh, that wasn't even the half of it! Listen, Tony's spawn is playing football with my internal organs so I'm going to go lie down. I'll talk to you later, alright?"
"Take care of yourself," he urged.
Peter was withdrawn that night and everything about his body language - and the fact that he was wearing pajamas - said "back off."
Hating that he'd hurt Peter, Stephen did back off and dressed for bed himself.
"I'm sorry for snapping at you earlier this evening," Stephen said after he'd joined Peter in bed. "You didn't deserve to be spoken to that way."
"No, I didn't," Peter said finally, still not looking at him. "I'm your spouse, not your verbal whipping boy."
"I'm sorry I made you feel that way."
"I don't ask about your day or what's bothering you to be nosy. I ask because you shouldn't have to deal with it alone."
"That's something I'm still coming to terms with," Stephen said. "I've been alone for a very long time."
"You're not, now. I know I'm not much-"
Stephen pulled him close and kissed him. "You're everything. I'm sorry I haven't made you feel that way. I'm... I'm glad that I have you."
Peter returned the kiss, pushing Stephen onto his back. "You have me." He kissed him again, started unbuttoning Stephen's pajama shirt, and then began to kiss down. And down.
"Peter, you don't-"
Peter looked up, amused. "I know." He continued his attentions downward and Stephen lifted his hips so Peter could pull clothing off.
Few things could make his mind go blissfully blank. Peter's mouth around his cock was one of them.
After he'd cleaned them up and before he fell asleep, Stephen vaguely wondered if Peter had any notion of the amount of power he could wield over him.
Peter took a deep breath before knocking on the door.
The woman who answered smiled delightedly when she saw him. "Peter! How wonderful to see you!"
"I'm sorry to bother you on your day off, Sue," he said.
"Oh, not at all! I was just using the quiet to do some cleaning. Franklin and Valeria will just mess it up again when they return from day care, but needs must. What brings you by?"
"I was hoping you could pass on a message to Dr. Richards for me."
Sue nodded, still smiling. "Of course! What would you like for me to tell him?"
"I'd like for for him to keep his opinions on my marriage to himself. He might not approve of how I'm living my life but it's my life. Stephen is my selecting spouse and I don't like seeing him upset."
Her smile faltered just a bit and she closed her eyes, mouthing something that sounded like "that man". She didn't look surprised at all. "Of course, I'll tell him."
"I would really appreciate it," Peter said. "I'm sorry to have to even ask, but like I said, I don't like seeing Stephen upset."
She nodded. "I'm so sorry you've had to deal with this. Reed so often has very good intentions but his execution and inability to let things go can cause problems."
They exchanged a few minutes of small talk and then Peter returned home.
Hopefully, that would be the last of it.

they only possible way they’d get married, in my opinion, is on a bet, and also while drunk, and also, they’d both forget entirely so technically it didnt happen
but also, i do like to think, i think they certainly daydream, or like think about it like, “man… married life with him would be so nice..”
but yk, what they’re picturing doesnt often like, end up being compatible to their life; yk, multiverse kross, like nm’s gang, or au hopping in general, marriage is kinda pointless, since, i hc that, once they left/lost their aus, their code is no longer attached to a place with time, so they’re not gonna really age, or get old, time is very finicky when youre between worlds outside of the frame of each world’s set reality, yk, your drum has stopped beating, the sun wont set anymore, cuz the sun is gone, yk, clock is not valid, either the batteries are gone or it’s broken and gone entirely
so, yk, theyre going to spend life together anyways, and regardless of status, i mean, theyre still each others
in most aus, too, we tend to make them beings that are just beyond marriage, or wholly seperate from marriage as a concept, so it just wouldnt hold any importance to them
and in modern aus, the chance is much higher, but not by much, because either, a, criminals, hiding, etc, b, theyre just unable to afford it or dont care for it still, and c, i think marriage would, if they considered it as such, be kinda Heavy? it would be putting a title, something that, socially, is a Big Thing, it carries meaning, and i just think, to them, it would just be like adding weight, unnecessarily, to something thats already big and important
plus, marriage is too much of a Normal, Civil thing, a Regular thing to do that its far too foreign for these two freaks, let them fuck and kiss and hold hands and then shrug when people ask if theyre married or dating or whatever
tldr; kross wouldnt Not get married, its too cishet for the trans gays
OHHHH NO THIS IS THE FUCKING REALEST THING EVER ACTUALLY holy shit dude this is everything
i like. don’t even really have anything to add you’ve fuckin said it dude
marriage is absolutely like. it’s too domestic for them. it’s not a Big Thing that they care about like. they have so many other things to worry about, in really any au, marriage to them is just like an unnecessary title i feel like so who cares. like it’s not necessary enough to them or their relationship that they would put effort into trying to make it compatible because. theyre together already
and i dunno i keep trying to think of more things to say but it’s basically just restating what you’ve already said so just yeah. yeag. so fucking real dude
#answering asks#chair asks#chair!!#chair i need you to know how real and true everything about this is dude like good lord#marriage being too cishet for them is one of the statements of all time dude holy shit#the only time it would happen is like the thing where an elvis impersonator can marry you in vegas but they would be so drunk they forget#about it the next day#/silly/silly /hj

Hi! I tremendously enjoy reading Lionheart so thank you so much for sharing your talent with us all.
What are some of your headcanon reasons for pure blood supremacy and for the relatively low fertility of magical families?
Thank you! It's my pleasure!
God, this is so interesting. This is the lore that gets me going, seriously. This got way long, though, so I'm hiding it under the cut.
Quick background for other readers— pretty much every estimate we get of the number of magical families in Britain is insanely low, considering: (1) most purebloods are not squibs; (2) unions between muggles and wizards doesn't reduce the chances of having a magical kid, as far as we can tell (Chamber of Secrets, page number disregarded in haste, but Dumbledore claims that virtually every wizarding family has muggle blood somewhere; also, the alternative would be a bizarre piece of worldbuilding, considering it's a cornerstone of Death Eater ideology); and (3) muggles can have magical children. So, by basic laws of population, either (a) there should be way, way more than 1,000 students at Hogwarts, or (b) squibs actually far more common than we think, we just don't hear about them, or (c) magical families have low fertility rates. Because (c) does the least damage to the suspension of disbelief, it's a pretty common headcanon.
I also prefer (c). I can think of at least a couple plausible reasons (c) could be the case: things like blood maledicts and magical diseases and (this is where it gets nasty) some really gnarly complications related to carrying a literal magical being to term. What if a burst of accidental magic from the fetus turns your placenta into concrete? What if it Vanishes its own umbilical cord? Hell, what if its magic just isn't compatible with its mother's — you know, the way moms with a different blood type from their babies sometimes have to get immunosuppressants, so their body doesn't identify the fetus as a disease and attack it? Even though magical medicine is pretty advanced, I can see pregnancy being one of those things where, even if you can catch a magical crisis fast enough to save the mother, the baby's chances aren't great. Which is... really dark, obviously. But it would also explain why pureblood families don't often have more than one or two children. (I think the Greengrasses are the only Golden Trio-Era family in Slytherin with two kids; I could be wrong, though.)
To that point, we don't see other families nearly large as the Weasleys, and a lot of people seem to regard having that many kids as strange or unnatural — which doesn't make sense, if your society is in the middle of a fertility crisis, but would be a tad more understandable if it came with the implicit risk of danger to the mother. It also explains why so many of these pureblood houses are in decline: you've only got one or two chances to keep this thing going, and if you have bad luck for even one generation, you're toast.
Then you incorporate pureblood supremacy, which is this nebulous, cruel, incestuous doctrine of bloodlines and social station that essentially operates as magical caste. In an era before modern science, I can easily see the difficulty of carrying a magical child becoming a sort of mark of nobility: a test you pass, bringing a noble child into the world, and their scarcity makes them valuable. In a feudal England, where having a blood heir is vitally necessary for the important life milestone of Not Getting Your Clock Cleaned By The Rival Lords, that difficulty of conception would make fears about "purity" much more intense. So you get wizarding nobility (the original purebloods) panicking and trying to concentrate as much magical blood as they can to increase their conception rates... being tragically unaware, of course, that it's the magical blood that's actually killing them.
The additional irony of that scenario is that in so doing, the pureblood families are actively hurting themselves by limiting their genetic pool — just look at the Black family tree, it's basically a cross-stitch pattern — which obviously increases the risk of recessive diseases and health complications that diminish lifespan and ability to conceive. So although they think they're protecting their lineage, they're actually breeding themselves into extinction. And meanwhile, people like the Weasleys — who have been marrying with muggles "for ages," according to Ron — are regularly having up to seven children, and remaining healthy for years afterward. I think that's pretty fitting.

so recently i’ve been brainrotting over @yoshiintheweb ‘s Wonders of The Hills AU and you know me, i'm a big Smallishbeans fan so here comes my little theory about woth!joel mainly prompted by this tag:
so, woth!joel was cursed at some point in his life and since then he has thrown off/outlasted the curse (or that’s what i’ve been getting from the wording); what we know tho is that there are some leftovers from the curse, namely golden eyes
the spotify playlist made for joel definitely fucks, the songs are amazing but there are some specific ones that got my attention
some are just funny
and some might actually either be or contain the clues
it’s no secret that in life series joel is very heavily associated with wolves, and in a different way than Ren is (with it being pretty much canon that Ren is a werewolf/wolf hybrid of some sort) but I genuinely do not think that woth!joel is a werewolf considering the emphasis on him being just some guy
but both the association and the songs lead us to the wolf and curse themes so if he’s not a werewolf what could it be?
well, i think that Joel got himself into some stupid shit and was straight up cursed to become a wolf
i'm not sure if it was in a werewolf-esque style where he became a wolf on full moon or each night, or just straight up becoming a wolf and being stuck this way until the curse was lifted/thrown off
i think ‘modern day cain’ might mean that he killed his brother? or he killed somebody else’s brother and as punishment he was cursed or maybe that song is there just bc its a bop
how was the curse lifted if Joel is just a guy (in the form of a wolf)? why, by lizzie of course
maybe he met her as a wolf and she realized he was cursed and decided to overcome the curse? maybe the power of love did it? maybe a kiss? who knows
also geraldine was part of joel’s pack and decided to stay with him after he was changed back and they’re besties your honor
i think this is all compatible with what yoshi posted about the AU and i also know she loves wolves so maybe?
so yeah, if you’re asking me joel just straight up lived as a wolf in the forest for some time and then decided to open up a store (as one does),
he has leftovers of his wolf instincts, he’s kinda wild and growls at rude customers
i may have gone a bit overboard but let me know what you think jfskjhfkj
#wonders of the hills#magical shop au#smallishbeans#Luka og#Ive been thinking a lot can you tell#how is this longer than some of my essays

Short sum for newbie system designer processor steps
Here are a few beginner projects for learning the ropes of customized computation architecture design:
Pana, a '4-4-4' instruction processor derived from Intersil 6100 & GaryExplains' but for 4-bit data. Uses the sixteen (16) RISC instructions shown by GaryExplains and only four (4) of its registers (ACC, PC, LN & MQ) as per of the Intersil 6100 specification. Doing as much work onto nibbles like an MVP Intel 4004 can, great as a BCD & Nibble data converter for later designs.
Tina, a barely expanded '4-4-8' processor derived from the "Pana" design, it uses more registers by adding twelve general-use registers (A-F, U-Z letters) and operate onto a single byte of data at a time. Great for two nibbles operations, byte-wise interoperability and 8-bit word compatibility with all sorts of modern processors from the seventies-onwards.
Milan, a '6-2-24' strong hybrid 8-bit / 12-bit processor derived from the "Tina" design, operating onto three bytes or two tribbles of data at once depending of use-case, while fitting in exactly 32-bit per instruction. Aimed at computing three 8-bit units, enabling 16-bit & 24-bit compatibility as well as up to two tribble operands. A great MVP implementation step towards my next own tribble computing architecture and a competitor to the Jack educational computer as shown in the NAND2Tetris courseware book.
When I am done with such, I will be onto three tribble-oriented architectures for lower-end, middle-end and upper-end "markets". Zara being lower-end (6-bit opcode, 6-bit register & 36-bit data = 48-bit instructions), Zorua being mid-end (8-bit opcode, 8-bit register and 48-bit data = 64-bit instructions) and Zoroark being upper-end (12-bit opcode, 36-bit register and 96/144-bit data (so either eight or twelve tribble operands worth of data) = 144/192-bit instructions, aiming to emulate close enough to an open-source IBM's PowerISA clone with VLIW & hot-swap computer architecture).
By the way, I haven't forgotten about the 16^12 Utalics game consoles and overall tech market overview + history specifications, nor have I forgotten about studying + importing + tinkering around things like Microdot & Gentoo & Tilck. I simply need to keep a reminder to myself for what to do first when I shall start with the computation engineering process. Hopefully that might be interesting for you to consider as well... Farewell!
EDIT #1
youtube
Tweaked and added some additional text & considering studying various aspects of Linux and overall copyleft / open source culture engineering scene, especially over Gentoo alternative kernels & hobby / homebrew standalone operating systems (GNU Hurd, OpenIndiana, Haiku... as well as niche ones like ZealOS, Parade, SerenityOS...) as to design a couple computation ecosystems (most derived from my constructed world which takes many hints from our real-life history) and choosing one among them to focus my implementation efforts onto as the "Nucleus" hybrid modular exo-kernel + my very own package modules collection. (Still aiming to be somewhat compatible with existing software following Unix philosophy principles too as to ease the developer learning cost in initial infrastructure compatibility & overall modularized complexity; Might also use some manifestation tips & games to enrich it with imports from said constructed world if possible)

So like, the concept of soulmates/fated ones clearly evolved out of astrology and all the modern permutations that involve some physical sign signalling the meeting of a fated one is a natural evolution of astrology.
Like, we all know the astrology girlies talking about which star sign would be a good match for you bases on youe birth chart. Bc it makes sense on paper. If your personality is predetermined by the alignment of the celestial bodies in the minute of your birth then with some basic understansing of personalities you can find the perfect configuration of celestial bodies that would produce the personality most compatible to yours and you could just look for people whose birth charts march that configuration. Astrology doesn't only say your personality is determined at birth by unchanging circumstances, inprinted on your body like a second set of DNA, but that the outcome of all of your possible human relationships is also tied to the physical body you were born into even tighter than a lot of actual biological things.
It is bioessentialism in its purest form.
So when playing with a world where soulmates are a confirmed fact of life, it is a natural evolution of the concept to have the human body acknowledge that biological truth by developing evolutionary traits that would help people identify their soulmates as it would contribute to the success of the species.
In fandom spaces it you have your soulmate mark/tattoo, first words written on the body, world balck and white until you meet your soulmate and a lot of other things including the stuff pulled in from media (we wont get into the feeding loop between media and fandom. But more than in fandom, the soulmate thrope THRIVES in supernatural romance where the supernatural being just knows either bc they are like a shifter and their animal knows, or their body experiences a change (Kresley Cole's vampires not being able to get hard until they find their fated mates comes to mind as a really funny example.)
astrology is cisgender and neurotypical
#a/b/o also plays into this bioesssntialist idea but I think it gets their using a funnier route#it's really funny how soulmate fics don't feature astrology but I guess rpf is where the astrology fandom thrives and i don't read that

Such is the pace of modern life that home automation is becoming the new norm. Among the exciting developments in this space is a product so innovative and functional that it not only offers the aesthetic appeal you need in your home but also ensures comfort, energy efficiency, and unmatched convenience: smart blinds. Have you always wanted to upgrade your home to make it more functional and stay abreast of the current design trends? Smart blinds might be just what you are looking for.
What Are Smart Blinds?
These smart blinds will automatically adjust the light input in a room, maintain privacy, and even help save energy—the new generation of window coverings that can be controlled by smartphone applications, voice assistants, or even automated schedules. They come in several styles, such as roller shades, Venetian blinds, and many others; this provides an easy method to choose the right home decor.
The Benefits of Smart Blind
1. Convenience and Control
Imagine getting up one morning and waking up with the blinds open so that sunlight shines through. With smart blinds, you can set it to follow your schedule. This means they will automatically open and close at a certain time that you scheduled for it. Want to block the sun from shining in during the hot afternoon or welcome sunshine when it's morning? You're indeed in charge because of smart blinds.
2. Energy Efficiency
Smart blinds help enhance the energy efficiency of your abode. Because it controls how many natural lights come into your place, it might help regulate the indoor temperature inside an ideal range. Closing smart blinds during peak hours when the sun is at its peak during summer reduces the use of air conditioning, while opening them during sunny days will warm up your home. This not only creates a more comfortable living environment but also helps in reducing your energy bills.
3. Increased Privateness and Security
Smart blinds bring a lot of ease to you regarding the aspect of keeping you private. You can program the functionality of opening and closing such blinds at certain times, and thus, it assures that the privacy of your home remains in place even when you are away from your house. Besides that, some smart blinds also carry security features that portray your presence in a house for real by adjusting themselves in the daytime, thereby giving the impression that someone is always in your house.
4. Integration with Smart Home Systems
This is a no-brainer for someone who already has a smart home system in place. More than that, you can pair smart blinds with other smart devices, including lights and thermostats. For example, you can set up your blinds to close when your home security system goes off or even if you are leaving in the daytime, making it even safer inside.
Choosing the Best Smart Blinds
In picking smart blinds, you might consider style and material but most of all, compatibility with your other devices within a smart home. Most brands can be found today in the category by offering either battery-powered solutions or hardwired forms of these products, all available so that you find something to suit your purposes.
Conclusion
Smart blinds are no fad; they help people solve the way to live today practically.
