Situation where Clark has formed a tentative working relationship with Batman, but somewhere in that time, Batman acquired Robin and, naturally, didn't tell him.
Clark finds out about Robin's existence when a ten year old Dick Grayson in full Robin gear breaks into his apartment at two in the morning and shakes him awake because Batman's missing and Alfred's away and Bruce taught him that, in the case of emergency, Superman was one of the only people he could trust. Bruce just didn't think to tell Clark that he was, by all means, his son's emergency contact.
Clark: -wakes up to a small boy that he's never seen or heard of before in a cape and a mask with lenses that reflect light like a cat's perched on the edge of his bed in a pitch black room-
Dick, calmly: Hey, Batman's -- stop screaming -- Batman's missing. I need help.

Bruce savored his coffee, relishing the peace after a challenging night tackling increased crime spillover from Metropolis. It was a rare moment alone, away from the daily hustle and bustle of dealing with the kids.
“We’re back!” A loud, cheerful voice shattered the peace from the hallway. Bruce sighed, realizing his envisioned peaceful afternoon was short-lived. Nine little kids bounded through the front door. Wait…nine kids? Bruce did another quick headcount and confirmed that, no, it wasn’t a stress-induced hallucination—there was an additional kid who wasn’t there that morning when the group left for the fair.
As the kids walked past him towards the stairs, Bruce pulled off their caps and scanned their faces one by one to make sure. Dick, Jason, Barbara, Steph, Tim, Cass, Duke, Damian… Finally, he came across an unfamiliar face. The boy stared up at him. “Dad?” The kid launched himself towards him and hugged his thighs. “You’re back!”
Bruce gently extracted the kid from his legs and bent down to take a closer look at him. The boy’s forehead creased, his lips pouting and seemingly on the verge of tears. “You’re not my dad.”
“I don’t think so, kid,” said Bruce. “What’s your name?”
“This is Jon,” said Damian, locking arms with the boy.
“Jon,” Bruce repeated blankly.
“Jon recently lost his dad. We told him that’s okay, not everyone has parents, so he can come and live with us!” Dick said.
Bruce could feel an impending headache coming on. “Dick, you can’t just-” Bruce wanted to refute Dick’s words, but his brain was doing somersaults at the moment, so he gave up. “I’m sorry to hear that,” Bruce said instead to Jon. “How did you lose him?”
“My dad got hit by a green rock by a robot and fell off the mountain. I flew over it a few times, but I couldn’t find him! So I went to the fair to see if he was there,” said Jon.
Flew over the mountain? Green rock? There was only one person that Bruce could think of who could fly and had a weakness towards green rocks. “Is your dad Superman?” said Bruce, knowing and dreading the answer.
“Yeah!” Great, the one superhero whom Bruce had managed to avoid dealing with so far, who had suddenly gone missing since Sunday and was apparently passed out somewhere at the foot of a mountain. And whose kid his own children had kidnapped. Bruce’s day just kept getting better and better.

thinking how Dick always finds ways to hang out with his brothers. but reality is that, they have grown with different schedules and locations and responsibilities. his brothers have partners now. Jason is a dad for goodness sake.
Dick finds himself often emotional. he is a man nearing his 30's, but he still often misses his younger brothers.
so Dick tries.
Dick, calls Jason, who is in Star City: Hey, Little Wing. You free this Saturday? There's a new action movie. Want to check it out?
Jason, pouts at the other end of the phone: Sorry, Dickie. I have to attend to Lian's reading playdate at her friend's house. Roy refuses to go.
Dick, feels a pang on his chest: Oh, of course, yeah. I'm glad you're there to teach Roy how to read.
Jason, laughs which makes Dick smile: Hey, lay off! But maybe we can watch another movie next month? My schedule is kinda booked this month-
Dick, doesn't mean to cut his brother off: No problem, Jay. Next time, yeah? Maybe me and Wally can visit soon.
Jason: You both should. Lian is asking for her favorite uncles. Please don't tell Tim and Conner I told you that.
Dick, laughs: I'll see you soon, Little Wing. Miss you. Say "hi" to Lian for me. And "fuck you" to Roy for me.
Jason, chuckles which makes Dick smile again: You got it, Goldie. See ya!
Dick keeps trying.
Dick knocks on the door of Tim's room and cherishes this moment, because Tim is barely at the Manor. Well, none of them mostly are at the Manor for years now. He enters when Tim says "come in".
Dick: Timmy!! Want to try this new coffee-
he closes his mouth when he sees Tim in front of the mirror, wearing a suit and fixing a tie.
Dick, frowns: Oh, you leaving already?
Tim bites his lip as he concentrates to fixing the tie. Dick chuckles and approaches Tim to do it for him.
Tim: Yes, going to Metropolis for a business meeting. Then off to New York after, booked that hotel for me and Kon.
Tim gestures to the packed bag on the floor.
Dick, feels a pang on his chest: Oh, right right. I almost forgot.
he backs up and smiles at his brother.
Dick: Well, looks like you're ready to go. You look handsome, Baby Bird.
Tim, smiles: Thank you, Dick.
he gives Dick a quick hug and Dick wishes it was longer.
Tim: See you next week, Dick!
Dick: Have fun! See you, Timmy!
before Tim exists his room, he turns around.
Tim: You were saying something a while ago? Sorry, I didn't catch it.
Dick: It's nothing.
Tim: You better tell me when I come back. Bye, Dick!
Dick, says to the empty room: Bye...
and Dick keeps trying.
Dick is barely with Damian during patrols anymore, so he's glad his brother called for back up, since Bruce was in another planet with the Justice League. Damian has grown so much, he's been using new suits, because he has outgrown a few of the older ones.
Nightwing: Hey, Robin. Want to catch some Big Belly burgers after we freshen up?
Robin: I think I'll have to pass, Nightwing. Superboy is picking me up in a few.
Nightwing, feels a pang on his chest: Right, right. He better not drop you.
Robin, snorts, but he smiles so Nightwing smiles also: He would never.
before Nightwing leaves Robin on the rooftop, he leans down to kiss the top of his head. it hits him that very long ago, he acted as his father figure when Batman was gone.
Nightwing: Take care, okay? Love you.
Nightwing thought he would not get a response, but as soon as he turns around to head for home, he hears Robin.
Robin: Love you, Akhi.
Dick has come to accept that his brothers are grown up now. that maybe he wasn't part of their lives anymore, he could honestly cry-
so when the door opens of their house, he expects to see Wally, bringing flowers and food like usual, but he sees his brothers instead. Jason has a box on his hand, which happens to be a copy of the movie they were supposed to watch. Tim has a bag of coffee from the new cafe place. Damian has a bag from Big Belly Burger. and if there tears on his eyes when they hang out that night, at least he's got his brothers to cuddle with on the couch.

On note of the Blockbuster thing and Dick’s over working himself, I can recall a time when after the first time Blockbuster got taken out, Dick was so lost emotionally and mentally, he went for months on end getting the absolute hardest cases and capers imaginable, getting more illnesses and injuries so much and frequently. It got so bad Bruce and Alfred had to drag him to the Batcave and Bruce had to get some tough love across.
He let Dick know that he was upset at him for failing to take care of himself and self forgive for what happened to Blockbuster. He forgives Dick for the latter case but will not tolerate Dick losing the value of his own life in self pity and guilt
Thoughts on this?
YES!!!
Dick overworks himself so hard that he kinda passes out and dreams so vivid that they're almost hallucinogenic but when he wakes up-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing (2016) Issue #117
Bruce is PISSED. Ofcourse it's gotta be because Dick let Blockbuster die right? He just stepped aside and let Catalina take the shot despite the no kill. He broke the OATH the two of them had forged. That's why Bruce is mad right?!
Tumblr media
Nightwing (2016) Issue #117
WRONG WRONG WRONG!!

Nightwing (2016) Issue #117
"You have no right to expect me to excuse you - for losing sight of the value of yours."
CMON BRUCE!!
He basically said "I don't care if you killed someone. If you want me to forgive you fine. But don't you dare fucking think for one second that I'll forgive you for almost dying."
Bruce is crazy about Dick. I've already talked before how he has control issues regarding Dick life but I want to reiterate that Bruce wants control of Dick's everything. His life, his relationships, his death.
You can see the visible rage in Bruce's body. You can see how hard he grips Dick's chin. He's furious that Dick would put his life below anyone's.
This isn't the only time Bruce gets furious at Dick almost dying either. Remember Forever Evil?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing (2011) Issue #30
His sole reason for beating Dick is LITERALLY beat his frustrations and fear that Dick almost died!! He's the one that died Bruce!! Why are YOU mad?!
The thing about Dick and Bruce's relationship or rather Bruce's relationship with Dick is that Dick could literally be standing in a room of blood and corpses and the first thing Bruce would do is rush over to him and check if he's okay. And then scold him because "what if they're blood accidentally got into you, Dick? Haven't I told you the dangers of bloodborne pathogens and other transmittable viruses? How dare you let them hurt you!"
Bruce has a no kill rule but sometimes when Dick's life is in danger he definitely looks the other way. No punishment if Dick does something to someone else but he travels at the speed of light when Dick lets something bad happen to him.
Not only that, he doesn't mind other people dying if it means saving Dick's life. Between the world surviving and Dick, he will always choose Dick. And how do I know that? Because he's done it before.
Tumblr media
Forever Evil Issue #5
"No, this is a search and rescue mission first--"
"Richard Grayson?"
"Yes, Luthor. Once Nightwing's safe, we can take down the syndicate."
The world is in SHAMBLES.

Forever Evil Issue #3
The justice league is gone.
The villains who actually wanted the end of the world are so shocked by the state it's in now that they've decided to become heroes. But none of that matters. It doesn't matter to Bruce that half the population is gone, people are killing, stealing, and dying. As long as Dick is alive - it's okay.
In fact an entire world could be corrupted beyond saying but as long as Dick isn't then it's a world worth saving.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Forever Evil Issue #3
Do you realize what this means? It means that Bruce's scale of measurement for evaluating the quality of a whole fucking planet IS Dick Grayson.
Even an hyper-intelligent construction questions what happens if his favorite, Dick, dies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Infinite Crisis Issue #3
What happened after Blockbuster, where Bruce completely ignored the death of him. Ah-I said ignored but the reality is created an excuse for - is completely in line with his relationship with Dick and more importantly highlights two things.
Breaking the no-kill rule is acceptable if it's Dick Grayson or relates to Dick Grayson.
Bruce is crazy about Dick and he will go crazy for him.

ok i put a longer post abt tim's Emotional State in drafts for when my brain is less melted but re: tim and going to college im just gonna get a lil silly with it. hear me out.
i have this whole vague story in my mind for tim's college days moonlighting as red robin as he tries and figures out what he wants out of life. (it's a while after rr leaves off and all because he's like. Super Depressed for a hot minute and then has to drag himself through actually bothering to get his GED and applying to college, etc., but eventually lucius is like hey. you're great with gadgets, and you clearly love tinkering. i'd hire you for r&d in a heartbeat but you need at the least a bachelor's of engineering. i know you have a lot of the technical skills, but you need a degree. so tim goes ugh fine i'll get a goddamn engineering degree how hard can it possibly be.)
anyways. i think it's a universal experience that if you go to college and you hang with the STEM crowd, you will unfortunately get to know at least one Fucking Guy. it's like brentwood arc; tim does make friends, but there is just this One Fucking Guy he cannot stand and will never stand. this Fucking Guy is in the common room playing his guitar at midnight. he's drunk and yelling and laughing really loud when people have exams coming up. he's convinced everyone adores him. there's also a detective/supernatural plot going on. the subplot is just that tim hates This Fucking Guy.
at some point, there's a story beat where he as red robin has to rescue That Fucking Guy from a real dicey situation, and That Fucking Guy is really shaken and grateful to him, and he's like okay. maybe. maybe we are making progress. but then the next time he encounters This Fucking Guy as tim drake, the guy is just like. "ohhhh hey drake you missed it last night, it was AWESOME!!! i had to save red robin from a KILLER ROBOT. he's pretty cool though i guess. i bet you wish you could be more like him huh??" and tim is just. I Will Not Grind My Teeth About This. I Will Not. his life is a fucking joke. he dismantles the toaster oven in the common room kitchen to cope. it's definitely to cope and not just so that That Fucking Guy won't be able to heat up his pop tarts in the morning.
at another point, This Fucking Guy looks at street mode, lowkey, unremarkable Normal Car-looking redbird and goes, aw, dude, i thought your dad is loaded?? he only got you a generic-ass sedan?? that sucks lol, if you want we can take my car down to the game instead. and tim is just Say One More Fucking Word About My Baby I Dare You I Fucking Dare You One More Fucking Word.
(also i like to toy with the idea of this being a university in metropolis - he's out of gotham, but not too far. keeps him from getting antsy about what if he's needed because he can get right back over there. and in the meantime, he can hang out with kon and kara a lot, and occasionally enable and be enabled by lois lane and her snooping habits. there's another subplot in which tim and lois get up to shenanigans. at least once.)
it's sort of an introspective thing of him trying to come to terms with the way he no longer wants a fully normal life the way he always used to assume he would - he has the option to walk away from the cape now, like he always thought he would one day, but he just can't give it up anymore. he's fallen into the same black hole he watched dick and bruce dive headlong into. it's also about him finding joy in tinkering and working with his hands and getting to spend more time as tim drake first and foremost. and it's about him venting to kon about That Fucking Guy while they have a lil picnic on the green while kon loses his absolute shit laughing. all against the backdrop of a little mystery or something. <3
OH and also, most importantly. zoanne wilkins is there and laughing at him for assuming college would be easy. and kon gets her into wendy the werewolf stalker. My City Now.

Okay so civilian AU where the batkids don't want their dad dating Clark (not because they hate Clark, they love him, they just don't want their dad Dating) but they don't outright say it because Clark makes Bruce happy, so they just. Commit micro aggressions.
Clark gets turned around in the Manor? Jason has a snarky comment about how "if you can't even find your way around a house, how do you expect to find your way around Gotham?"
There's a bomb threat while they're out at the mall (it's Gotham) and Clark’s slightly panicking. Dick helps calm him down, but not without the patronizing comment of, "the first bomb threat's always the hardest. You're not going to last long here if you still get so freaked out about bomb threats—it's best if you just go back to Metropolis."
Clark asks why Cass resorts to sign language only when around him, like stops mid-sentence and switches to sign when he enters the room. Cass looks innocently at him and signs, "I only speak around people I'm comfortable with and I know will stay."
Damian just flat-out ignores him. Clark can't even say anything because Damian’s just Like That. Titus chews up all Clark’s clothes? "I'm not responsible for my dog's habits, Kent."
Clark tries and fails to articulate a business proposal on the behalf of WE Tim comes to rescue him with a sympathetic but pointed comment about how, "it's okay, not everyone knows how to pitch proposals. In upper-class society, it's a necessary skill—even Steph knows, and I doubt she's ever set foot in WE, but it's fine you don't know, really! Just...stay away from my company, will you? It's a family affair."
Clark Knows they don't like him, but the comments are isolated and innocent enough that he can't point anything out without it seeming like he's nitpicking.
- batposts (on anon because I'd rather you didn't see my main)
WHEEZE POOR CLARK - this tastes so much like the bitterness I had for my mom's first boyfriend. Let me tell you me and my brother invented a new layer of hell for that man.
OH OH OH - Clark thinks the batkids are invincible, they're Bruce's perfect baby angels (quoted from the titan dad himself) but he quickly realizes that's not the case at all.
Like, maybe Tim says something snarky during dinner, something intentionally smarmy about the class difference between clark and Bruce and isn't it wonderful they lasted so long despite being so different?
And Clark doesn't even blink at that, he's used to Tim being Tim, but Bruce? " What did you say, Timothy Jackson Drake-Wayne?"
An ivory red lits Tim's ghostly pale painted face on fire. " Um. Jay-"
" Don't look at me, man."
" Dick-"
" Eşti pe cont propriu, cretinule. (You're on your own, moron - I like to think Dick only ever insults his siblings in Romanian)
" Steph?"
" No habla little bitch."
" Dami?"
Damian stares at him, silently squishing his cheek againts a fuming Bruce's forearm. Needless to say Tim doesn't have desert or coffee for a WEEK and Bruce has a long talk with his kids.
Counterattack: Clark's kids do the exact opposite. They just snatch Bruce, OUR DAD NOW, CHUCKLEFUCKS, and dip straight up.
When they actually DO meet, let Jon look at Dami glowering at him, because NEW BABIES? IN THE NEST? NO- and just laugh.
He laughs. That's it. " Okay, first of all, you're adorable and I love everything about you. "
Conner is straight up like,
hey Jason, right? You don't have to worry about Bruce anymore, dude. I'm kinda planning on moving in? So you can move back out. I know for a fact you have the best room in this overpriced box and I plan on taking it. Haha, just messing! Seriously though, move out. I got this.

Slipped Their Minds
After a few years working alongside the Justice League, Batman decides that it will be safe to let his kids tie themselves back to him. The only thing is, that since Nightwing is already part of the League, they forget to mention that he is also part of the Bat associates. They only remember when they are surrounded by other members, who loose their shit at the fact that Batman is Nigthwing’s dad.
On AO3.

~~~~
When the Justice League forms, most heroes have been around for a few years already. Superman has been flying over the skies of Metropolis for four years, the Flash has been zooming around Central for three and the Green Lantern got his assignment a year and a half ago. While Wonder Woman, J’onn J’onzz and Cyborg are more recent additions.
The only exception to this rule is Batman, who has already been doing this for around fifteen years already, though no one knows for sure when he started. And he has never been very forthcoming with the information either.
Now it’s two years later and the Justice League is looking to expand. The hero community has grown since their start and they want to pad their numbers and increase their reach, so that they can make more of a difference.
One of the new members they recruit, is Nightwing.
Nightwing does not seem like the most interesting new recruit, since he is a human surrounded by people that can absorb nukes or kings of the seas. However, Nightwing piqued their interest, because rumors of him go way back.
Upon meeting the man, they realize this kid has been in the business for a long time, first popping onto the scene about eight years ago. Bar Batman, he’s been doing this the longest.
“Man, how come I never heard of you until recently?” Flash exclaims. He and Nightwing have hit it off right away. “You’ve been doing this for so long, rumors must have started to seep out at some point.”
“Nah, I wasn’t really considered a hero until like a year or so ago,” Nightwing shrugs easily, leaning back in the other monitor chair. “For the first two years, I was a rumor made up by criminals, then I was a good for nothing, punk vigilante that was on the wanted list for the next three years. By then you guys got onto the scene and heroes truly became a topic in a positive way, so they became a little more open to my meddling. Though they still don’t trust me entirely. Now we’re here.”
“Wait, they still don’t trust you?” Flash asks.
“No, course not, it’s Blüd,” Nightwing laughs as if that’s funny. “You can’t trust anyone there. It’s a shithole of a shithole. I’m not a hero, Flash, I’m a vigilante. Huge difference.”
“Ugh, you sound like Batman,” Flash complains. “Wait, aren’t Blüdhaven and Gotham like super close to each other?”
“Yeah, why do you think it’s such a shithole?” Nightwing jokes, though everyone has already learned the hard way that he’s the only one, who can joke about his city like that. They’re pretty sure Aquaman still feels the bruise. For a human, he sure can pack a punch.
“Did you two work together? Before the League? Or, like, even before heroes?” Flash asks, rapid speed as his excitement grows.
“Our cases overlapped sometimes,” Dick says, deciding it’s not technically a lie, because Nightwing didn’t want Batman nosing around in his city until recently and Robin doesn’t really count. “We knew of each other, shared information sometimes.”
“Wow, I can’t imagine what baby Batman must have been like,” Flash says, a little awed.
“Probably a lot stupider than we think,” Dick snorts, still remembering when Bruce took him in only two years after he himself had started running around in kevlar.
Right now, he’s kind of sad that he made Bruce promise to let him be in the League on his own, because otherwise he could share some embarrassing stories with Flash – or Wally, the man’s secret identity wasn’t too hard to figure out – but he can’t do that without revealing Robin and that can’t happen.
Robin is still an unconfirmed rumor. There are a lot of reports about him, but the switches in Robins that have been going on made them all so widely different that no one trusts them. And no pictures have been leaked. Babs is very good at what she does.
Out of the Gotham’s vigilante population, Robin is the only known one in the streets and under the rogues in Arkham. All the other birds and bats – save Signal, the stubborn day shift – are pretty unknown and Batman likes to keep it that way.
He and Cass, Jason too technically, are the only ones, who are proper adults now and the world has changed drastically from when they were kids.
Dick might frown on B’s paranoia most of the time, but it’s no longer just the creeps in Arkham they have to worry about. It’s the anti-hero mentality that is popping up alongside the support, the people with grudges on a larger scale that are trying to find weak spots to get back at heroes that stopped them or couldn’t save them, magic that could control their allies and turn them against them, along with all the ones they love.
The world isn’t safe and anonymity makes his baby siblings a little better protected.
Of course, he’s not going to sit there and say the world was safe when he ran around in short shorts and bright colors. The fact that he was out there in the first place spoke to that. However, it seems like the world was at least smaller then, the harms more manageable. Vigilantes less known, with smaller targets on their backs.
So, he just laughs at the young Batman hypotheticals Wally comes up with as they continue to shoot the shit and watch over earth from high above. Almost like a rooftop, but on a much larger scale. B definitely came up with that one.
And so the Justice League evolves with the new heroes in it, while Nightwing and Batman masquerade as strangers to protect their family.
However, before Dick was Nightwing, he was Robin and it is hard to hide years of working alongside each other with only the other one as backup. Even Barbara came later. At the start, it was just them and that’s hard to forget.
Bruce tries to hide it, putting Dick on different teams, knowing he is capable of leading them, and scheduling different training days for them, as well as trying to stay out of his way as Dick establishes himself among their allies.
But avoiding each other entirely is suspicious too. Besides, it’s unavoidable sometimes. They have skill sets that compliment each other well, it’s natural that they get assigned together, especially when it’s a stealth mission.
Still, they maintain a professional distance. They’re coworkers, whose styles mesh well, but who aren’t particularly close.
And so time passes and the world changes more.
Cass is making a name for herself in Hong Kong, Jason is running around with his Outlaws, while Tim has joined the Teen Titans (under the guise that his name is merely an homage to the Robin rumors from his hometown, where he doesn’t operate) and Steph is striking out with the Birds of Prey.
Only Damian and Duke, the babies of the family, are safe in Gotham – for as far Gotham is safe. And even then, it’s really only Damian, whose existence is still rumor. Signal runs around in broad daylight, the first confirmed connection to the Bat.
A connection, they observed, that has protected him thus far. Not harmed.
Sure, they all know the risks of being a vigilante, but there is no more anonymity keeping them safe. Robin is starting to be believed in more and more, vague images floating around with increased cameras on the streets and all the others have been spotted outside of the context of Gotham. Maybe it is time.
Maybe, telling the world that these people fall under the protection of Gotham’s Legend. Of the first hero – though he doesn’t use the term himself – that ever graced the world. Of the man that is still here, no matter what life throws at him.
Maybe that will be safer than having them be lone vigilantes out in the wind, ready to be taken out by any wannabe villain trying to make their mark.
Red Hood has always worn a bat on his chest, but most considered it a mockery (as it was intended at the time). However, when more and more start to appear, people take it more seriously.
Like, Orphan, who patrols the street in her Black Bat get up that she usually dawns in Gotham, Red Robin, who introduces Robin to the Teen Titans – thus also the world – confirming his existence and tying them both to the Bat, while Steph finally takes on the mask of Batgirl full time.
It’s a perfect plan that goes off without a hitch.
Sure, there is a small explosion online as people learn how many vigilantes patrol Gotham and Gothamites start to share old tweets that were conspiracy theories at the time or their own experiences with the newly revealed vigilantes.
Within the hero community people are surprised to see just how many vigilantes Batman trained, though only Dick hears about that, since Bruce avoids the Watchtower like the plague afterwards.
Naturally, Dick reports gleefully about all the wild shit he’s heard in the halls of the Watchtower to his siblings with grandeur.
Like that first time back on the Watchtower after the reveal. Wally zooms up to him in the middle of the cafeteria area, saying: “Did you see about all the Batman children popping up everywhere?”
“Of course,” Dick snorts, because why the hell would he not have?
“Did Batman, like birth them all? What do you think?” Wally asks breathlessly, obviously it’s been eating at his mind.
Before Dick can reply, Diana interrupts: “I did not know Batman was a sculptor, gifted by the Gods.”
“What?” both Dick and Wally reply, confused.
“His children,” Diana says, her tone giving away that she thinks they should understand that. When it becomes clear they don’t, she expands: “My mother brought a lump of clay before the Gods. She shaped me and breathed life into me. I assumed Batman had done the same, is that not so?”
It’s quiet for a moment as they process what the Amazonian princess just said. Then it takes every ounce of Dick’s training to say straight faced as he explains that humans don’t reproduce that way, while Wally just fails and breaks down in laughter.
By the time Diana understands, Hal has joined them, having wandered over to find out what they hell was happening over there.
He asks: “Spooky really had a bunch of kids? Somehow I can’t imagine him with a baby, like did he have batdiapers made?”
Amused Dick thinks about the last time he saw B hold a baby. Definitely better with kids older than four. So, he shakes his head and says: “Nah, he adopted.”
“That makes sense,” Wally agrees.
“So, he just found a bunch of highly competent kids?” Hal says, not buying it. “I mean, where would he even get them?”
Dick starts laughing immediately, because this has always been his favorite joke to make. However, his laughter prevents him from speaking, so for a second he looks insane, then he gleefully chokes out: “T- the- the circus!”
Wally punches his shoulder and says: “Don’t be a dick,” with an amused voice.
Naturally that only sends Dick into a further spiral and he can’t explain, both because he’s still laughing and because he doesn’t actually want to give their secret identities away. They’ve luckily changed topics by the time he’s gotten himself under control.
All in all, it is a win for once. No organization breaks out of the shadows to target them all and the hero community doesn’t suddenly turn against them. The only thing they forget, is that they never mentioned that Nightwing is also a Bat associate.
Dick has always tried to make Nigthwing outside of his association with the Batman, moving to a city and picking a theme and name far from Batman’s influence.
Bruce has learned over the course of many fights to respect that. And he values his relationship with his son enough that he does, especially when being protective – a thing all of them have at some point referred to as being overbearing.
So, when they’re talking about tying everyone to the Batman, they don’t think to make a plan for Nightwing too. Dick is a Bruce’s son and he’ll always help when Gotham needs it, but Nightwing is Blüdhaven’s vigilante, helping the Bat, but standing on his own.
Besides, he is a part of the Justice League like Batman is, they already know him. He doesn’t need to be revealed to them, he is them.
It’s a silly mistake. More an oversight than a mistake, really. And the good news, is that it doesn’t matter that much. The bad news, is that they don’t realize they’ve made the oversight until they’re in the Watchtower and it’s too late.
Bruce has finally decided everything died down enough that he can show his face again without being overrun. However, as an extra buffer, he has assigned himself monitor duty with Dick.
Sadly, Dick is a more social person than Bruce and he regularly shows up a little early so he can chat with whoever is there, before settling down at the monitors. So, if he wants to use Dick as a human shield – Bruce prefers social interaction lighting rod – then he’ll have to act now, use Dick as a distraction so he can sneak to the observation deck.
So, he travels with Dick to the Watchtower, the two of them appearing together as they discuss the latest drug smuggling case Dick has been working on. It’s been keeping him busy, so he hasn’t been on the Watchtower in a bit.
When they get to the cafeteria area where most heroes gather, Bruce stays half a step behind Dick, hoping one of his friends will spot him and he can make his escape. However, instead it seems like a few have stayed behind when they saw Batman was on duty just to talk to him.
“Batman,” Diana greets with a smile, coming his way as more people spot him. Curse you, Diana, for being earnest and nice enough that Bruce would feel bad disappearing on her.
“Wonder Woman,” he replies. Then he adds: “Flash,” because the man has come their way as well.
“Heya, Bats, Nightwing,” Wally greets. “Surprised to see you up here, finally decided that you couldn’t hide out in your cave forever? Or did the kids push you?”
Dick snorts at that and Bruce sends him a glare, not reacting. Clark is making his way over as well and he is not looking forward to that. No use in already embarrassing himself.
Clark reaches them, right as Diana smiles: “Yes, your children, Batman. I wanted to congratulate you on the fine warriors you’ve raised. Green Lantern showed me videos of their valor in battle, you must be very proud.”
“Hn,” Bruce grunts. Obviously he is proud of his kids, but he barely knows how to tell them that, he doesn’t know how to even begin this conversation.
“Come on, Batman,” Clark joins the conversation. “You can’t be quiet about them forever. We want to know about them, about you. They all popped up at the same time, it had to be coordinated, knowing you.”
“Yeah, man, brag a little,” Wally both teases and encourages.
Bruce only feels cornered now. He loves his kids and as Brucie he has no trouble bragging about them, knowing what to say and meaning every words of it.
He wants to tell them about Damian’s last art exhibit, how well Tim has been dealing with his vigilante life and the company, how well Steph has been doing in her classes and how much good Jason and Cass have been doing out on their own. He wants to tell them about how well Duke has been settling in at the Manor and in the family, how much Barbara has been helping the community from the library and how Dick has been making such a difference in Blüdhaven.
However, immediately, he shuts all those thoughts down. He made their connections known to protect them and every detail he gives away to these people, can only put them in danger again.
Of course he is also proud of their vigilantism, but talking about that, might show weaknesses, things they had to grow in. And that is also dangerous. Having them be mysteries is how he has always protected them, he doesn’t know how to be proud without the possibility of hurting them hanging over his head.
Fortunately, Dick doesn’t leave him hanging and serves as the social interaction lighting rod, Bruce hoped he’d be.
After a beat, Dick smiles widely and slings and arm around Bruce. He pulls him closer as he easily says: “Don’t worry about his grumpy exterior. That was his proud grunt. You learn to understand him. Right, B?” then he tugs on the cowl ear, something he has always done.
Bruce lets a small smile slip at that, because unlike what some people think, he does try to be a person sometimes. Like, Dick. Dick knows, which is why he squeezes his shoulder for a moment, a quiet support.
The moment is broken by the three around them, loudly wondering different things: “B?” “Since when are you so buddy-buddy?” “I did not know you were so close.”
Both startle back at the sudden explosion of noise, then look confused at the three heroes, aware of the eyes of everyone suddenly on them, before looking back at each other.
“What do you mean, B is my-” Dick starts, before suddenly realizing something. He turns to Bruce with wide eyes as he says: “Oh my god, we totally forgot to mention that you’re my dad too.”
“Hn,” Bruce says again, hating when it is shown that he’s not infallible, but human. Very human compared to the supers they surround them with.
Around them, it seems like everyone has fallen silent for a second. Busy comprehending. Then there is a repeat of before, with everyone falling over themselves to ask questions. They do so loudly and overlapping with each other, years of press conferences has taught both to stay quiet until they’ve sorted themselves out.
As expected, everyone quiet down after a bit when there are no immediate answers forthcoming. A reporter at heart, Clark pounces in the silence: “We never found any ties between Nightwing and Batman, not even going years back. How did you hide that?”
Dick laughs a little sheepishly: “I was going through my rebellious phase when I first started out, I didn’t want any of B’s interference when setting out on my own.”
“Wait, but if you didn’t start out together, then how did you get good? Did you get a vigilante starter kit or something?” Hal asks, coming over and dropping any pretenses that he hadn’t been eavesdropping.
“No, course not,” Dick snorts. “I was the first Robin. Got all my training before I even started with Nigthwing. B here had already taught me everything he knew.”
“Hn,” Bruce interjects.
“Well, practically everything,” Dick amends. “But I also learned stuff from some other people that he doesn’t know. So, same difference in the end.”
“Haven’t you been Nightwing for the past eight years, dude?” Wally asks, confused.
“Yeah? So?” Dick replies, because he has. He doesn’t know what that has to do with the conversation.
“How freaking old are you then?” Wally exclaims.
“I’m twenty-six,” Dick says.
Clark looks between them, then asks Bruce: “May I know how old you are then? Should you still be doing this?”
Bruce glares at him and says: “I’m thirty-eight, Superman. Not ancient.”
“Wait, thirty-eight? That’s only twelve years apart,” Wally quickly calculates.
“That is way too young to have a kid, Bats,” Hal whistles, a bit disturbed.
“I didn’t become his father when I was twelve, Lantern,” Bruce grouches, already dreading the next two hours that he’s going to be stuck here.
“Oh, yeah, adoption,” Hal says apologetically, cringing slightly at himself.
“Is that too young?” Diana asks, innocently.
“Yes, way too young,” Bruce grits, before anyone else can answer her.
“Uh-huh,” Dick nods. Then he suddenly says: “Twelve years. I never thought of it like that. Are we really that little apart? You seem so old in my memories, but that’s even less than me and Little D.”
“Well, I imagine perception warps things,” Bruce says. “A twenty-one year old must seem like quite the adult when you’re nine.”
“I suppose.”
“Okay, so you were adopted when you were nine?” Wally says. “When did you start being Robin. I know the current one is like twelve or some shit, but nine is way too young to be running around fighting crime.”
Neither Dick nor Bruce respond to that, both giving each other a glance. Their lack of response tells everyone there enough.
“What the Hell, Batman – pardon my French,” Clark exclaims. “A lot of us have sidekicks, but to start training someone that young. And without precedence?”
“To send a child onto the battlefield is frowned upon,” Diana agrees, more echoing her disapproving look.
Again, Bruce feels cornered. He has never been comfortable with his kids putting themselves in danger. G-d, knows he isn’t, especially after Jason.
However, if he hadn’t equipped them and trained them, they would have been out there anyway and that would have been way more dangerous. But to explain that, feels like giving excuses, when he knows it isn’t a great thing to be doing.
Dick steps in again, diffusing by saying: “Hey, hey, lay off him for a bit. It’s not like he had much of a say in it. If I hadn’t become Robin, I would’ve committed murder at nine and spend the rest of my days in juvie.”
Record scratch. Pause.
Another silence.
Another explosion.
The loudest among them is Wally, who is arguably Nightwing’s best friend and thought he knew the guy pretty well before this, exclaiming: “What the hell, man.”
This time, it is Bruce, who steps in for Dick. He says: “We have all been in dark places and bad stuff has happened to all of us. Let’s not judge a kid, who just suffered a loss. It was a temporary anger, you’ve all seen the kind of hero he is, the type of man he has become.”
A beat of silence passes, before Dick jokes: “See, told you that was his proud grunt,” though Bruce can hear the layer of emotion he attempts to hide with it.
Luckily the others drop it too, letting the moment pass. Wally just says: “Damn, just when I think I’m getting to know you, you’re just another mystery.”
“I’m like an onion,” Dick smiles. “Layers.”
Wally groans as Hal says: “Really? Shrek?” which launches them into a discussion about the movie and its merits.
Meanwhile, Bruce is getting pinned by Diana and Clark, they gazes preventing him from walking away.
“You didn’t say anything about being related to Nightwing when he was voted in,” Clark comments.
“I voted for him,” Bruce replies.
“You know that is not the same, Batman,” Diana says kindly.
“Nightwing is his own vigilante,” Bruce says. “He has worked hard to come out from my shadow. I trust him to make it on his own. My vote was based on his work, just like it always will be. It’s not like I didn’t vote for anyone else.”
“Hm, maybe,” Clark agrees. “But you’re keeping secrets.”
“I always have,” Bruce shoots right back.
“About your identity, we can respect that, but Clark is right,” Diana says. “This isn’t just your private life, this also impacts us. Your other kids aren’t in the League, but Nightwing works with us. We would have liked to know. Can you imagine if we learned about it, because something happened to you out there? Or vise versa?”
Bruce doesn’t like to think about anything happening to Dick, but he can imagine the reverse wouldn’t have been very pretty. “Hn.”
Clark says: “You’re allowed to keep secrets, Batman, we won’t force you. But haven’t we proven ourselves to be your friends? You can let us in. Keep us in the loop.”
Precisely because they are his friends, they can become a danger. People close to him are the ones that will be used to target him, he can’t just risk his kids like that. However, he doesn’t think having that conversation will help, so he says nothing once more.
Diana sighs at that, a bit defeated, making a little bit of guilt churn in his gut (though not enough to risk giving anything away).
Clark asks: “At least tell us if you’re hiding another kid somewhere.”
“I will,” he says, because it is the least he can do. Though he mentally adds the caveat; if it is relevant for the job. He tries to ignore the stab in his heart when Clark and Diana give him a big grin in response.
Before he can give it further thought, the conversation is interrupted by Dick, who calls out: “Get a move on, B. We still have monitor duty.”
He is smiling, surrounded by his friends. Friends he made on his own. He looks happy. Confident. A good young man. One that stands on his own, yet knows he’s not by himself. Bruce can’t find it in him to feel guilty about giving Dick the space to become that person. Not when they both had to grow as people to get there.
They were the first two costumed vigilantes the world knew, even if they haunted the shadows for most of their time as a duo. The two of them are older than heroes. Older than the League. They have enough experience to asses the risks themselves.
Besides, Bruce can privately admit that everyone’s reactions have been kind of funny. He’s sure Dick and his other kids agree. If he knows them well enough, they’re probably watching on a feed Barbara pulled up, laughing at them and gathering more blackmail. Maybe he’ll do it all again, if he ever adopts another kid.
Though, he doesn’t let any of that show, just keeping his face neutral as he goes to join Dick for their monitor duty.
He hears Hal whisper: “Teach me how you got away with saying that,” and knows it’s going to be a long two hours.
~~
A/N:
I know the timeline doesn’t make sense, especially with Nightwing as a name, but my fic my rules. This is more to be funny than to actually have a conversation with canon xp
Shiny fabric
As much as Mack enjoyed living in the countryside in Scotland, he also enjoyed the occasional trip to London. He loved the metropolis, which was yet another category entirely different from Glasgow. And Mack loved the East End. Here he found honest lads, real fellas, with whom one could have all kinds of fun. Fun of all kinds. Actually, it was usually enough for Mack if there were a few beers and if there was fucking afterwards. That was all he needed on a good night out in London. But tonight he was excited. He'd passed a store last night on the way to his hotel room that had Adidas Chile tracksuits in his size in the window. In XXL. Black with gold stripes. He had been looking for it for years. Just wasn't available in that size anymore. He had never understood why Adidas no longer produced it. He knew a whole bunch of fellas who got off on the shiny fabric. He wouldn't necessarily wear something like that in public. But at home. Jerking off in the fabric. He had gotten a boner right away at the thought.
The store was called CHAVTF and it opened at 11:00 on Saturday. At 10:50, Mack was at the door. He didn't want to take any chances, he had to have the tracksuit. At 11:15, a young man came and opened the door. Slim, he wore a tracksuit himself and an alpha jacket over it. Hair noticeably shorter than Mack's. Cool bastard, Mack thought to himself… The cool bastard asked Mack into the store, turned on the lights and asked how he could help. As cool as he could be, Mack asked for the suit from the store window. In XXL. The store clerk laughed. Mate, the only thing XXL about you is your dick. There are changing rooms in the back, get undressed, I'll bring you the tracksuit. Without thinking, Mack went into the locker room and stripped naked. Between his legs dangled his impressive cock, dripping precum. He looked at himself in the mirror with satisfaction. The young man came into the cubicle, the curtain of which was not drawn at all. He placed the suit on a stool, hugged Mack from behind, and grasped the massive cock with both hands. "To try on the suit, though, please wrap that beauty up," he laughed. Mack picked up the jockstrap from the floor and pulled it over his wiry, hairy legs. The jockstrap still reeked of last night's piss, cum and beer. He took the shiny size S pants and pulled them up. Fit like a glove. The store clerk cleared out a new shipment of goods and stopped briefly at the changing room. Looks extremely awesome, mate. Your customers are going to love it."
Mack reached through the fabric of his pants for his cock. "Hell, yeah," he said enthusiastically. "Here, try this T-shirt with it," the store clerk said, tossing him a compression shirt with Batman printed on it. Mack slipped it on and nodded his approval. Looked cool, accentuated his lean body. "Say, how much do you actually take for a date?" Mack said that depended on the customer, a quick blowjob here in the locker room would be free. But otherwise, he would be a luxury product. Only for an escort service he took 200 pounds an hour. Everything else cost extra. "Bloody hell," the clerk replied. 'I work two days for that. When things are going well. But don't your customers expect someone freshly showered? You smell like you haven't showered in two days." "Three, actually. I'm about to have a pervert jerk off while he gets to smell my armpits. Gives you some extra cash." "I really have the wrong job. Is the Arab accent a trick? Or are you really from there." Maleek explained in the finest Cockney accent that his parents were from Morocco, but he was born here. Of course, the Arab accent is a trick. But his clients would dig it.
Tumblr media
Maleek paid for the three tracksuits that were still available in his size. He knew how dates with his next client went. If his tracksuit survived, his client would ask him to piss in it and then pay him easily five times what he had to pay now for three suits. So two suits on reserve was a wise investment. And just because he was a whore, he didn't have to be a bad businessman. But now let's go to the agreed meeting place and play the street hustler. That was part of the game with his client.
Call Waiting
That was the affect he had. Superman. He made you think that everything would be fine. Right up until the moment he was gone.
Jason struggles with expectation and reality; what Superman had been for Dick, what he could have been for Jason, and the nothing that he ultimately was.
~~
Jason had seen him once, flying over Gotham. The red cape and boots and a suit bluer than sky; the golden skin and broad shoulders, smile warmer than any sun.
Jason had been seven, chin jutting forward and jaw set. Small hands clenched in angry fists. He was arguing with the old Park Row chemist, Mr. Bevan, who dealt in out-of-date meds for those who couldn’t afford the real thing. The old man had promised Jason 100 grams of lofexidine; had delivered less than fifty but still taken the full payment. Refused Jason’s every plea and curse and cry of unfairness.
All Jason had wanted was to get his mom off of the oxy; to get her all the way through the withdrawal this time and get her better. Get her back; to who she had been… Hunger clawed at his insides, he hadn’t eaten a proper meal in weeks, had saved up every penny he could find to try and help her and—
Superman had appeared in the sky. Impossibly huge and brilliantly bright, warmth radiating off him. He landed not two feet from where Jason was stood.
For one wild moment Jason felt like he’d won the lottery. Superman was here, Superman was here and surely it was for Jason. That’s what he did, wasn’t it? He saved people, people who really needed it. Surely he must have heard, surely he would have known; how desperate Jason and his mom were. How badly they needed help, needed the money and the medicine and somewhere warm and safe and—
The Kryptonian didn’t even see him. Didn’t just look over Jason’s head, but beyond it. Searching the layers of existence for whatever it was he saw in the walls, the very cells of Gotham’s crumbling Park Row district.
“Excuse me.” He’d said politely to old man Bevan, his voice warm with Metropolis sunshine. He’d dipped his head, as though doffing a hat, and then smashed right through the wall of the east end’s Gotham Bank and down into the old vaults.
It took Jason a moment to remember to breathe. He’d seen plenty of crazy things living on Gotham’s poverty line, but he’d never seen a man walk through a wall like it was rain. Superman appeared moments later, with Dick Grayson - that billionaire’s kid - clinging onto his shoulders, and distantly Jason had remembered something about the twelve year old having been kidnapped.
Dick’s arms were wrapped around Superman’s neck, fingers linking under the alien’s chin. There was a grin on his face a mile wide.
“Let’s get you somewhere safe.” Superman had said, rising into the sky as he spoke.
Jason watched them go, the world around him growing cooler by the moment, now that Superman wasn’t there to shine on them. It wasn’t until he got back to the apartment, dank and crumbling, that he realised the cold feeling in his gut wasn’t hunger, but devastation.
~~
Robin met him in the Cave first. He was just as big as Jason remembered, just as overwhelming; his cape a deep, rich red.
“And as for you, Jason—” Superman’s hand had found Jason’s head, had ruffled his hair; his voice warm and booming. “Congratulations on getting that costume, I hear you’re wearing the suit well.”
Jason had only grinned, dizzy with wonder in Superman’s presence. At hearing his name come from the man himself.
“Wow—” He’d breathed, watching the Kryptonian fly from the Cave. Adrenaline had flooded his veins as the red cape slipped out of sight, “I can’t believe that was Superman!” He’d spun round to face Bruce, hopping from foot to foot with excitement. “He spoke to me! Double wow!”
Bruce had pulled down his cowl by now, slung an arm around Jason’s shoulders. “I’m wounded, Robin.” He feigned hurt, held a hand to his heart. “Batman speaks to you everyday.”
Jason had rolled his eyes, dug a playful elbow into Bruce’s ribs. “Batman can’t even fly, B. Come back to me when you’re faster than a speeding bullet.” Then he’d slipped from under Bruce’s arm, sprinting to the showers with a laugh as Bruce gave chase.
Jason had heard stories about Dick’s time with the world’s finest. The adventures the three of them had been on, how close Dick and Clark had become. Hell, Dick had even named himself after a Kryptonian legend, had been given Big Blue’s blessing to do so.
For the first time in Jason’s short life, things were going right. So for the first time he dared to imagine, to think that maybe that would be him too. He’d finally have the big family he always dreamed of, a dad and a brother and Superman. Who knows, maybe he’d even grow up and be Flamebird with Dick.
That was the affect he had. Superman. He made you think that everything would be fine. Right up until the moment he was gone.
He’d been polite, obviously, kind… but ultimately disinterested. There were no adventures together, no team, no family… And when Jason had called for him, cried his name under the relentless swing of metal against bone, it was a burning cold that filled his heart. Sorrowful and dark.
~~
“I called for you, you know.” Red Hood stands above him. It’s hard to tell the cape from the blood now, where it lies in the snow. “When I was fifteen, and the Joker was— I called. I called right up until he cracked through my skull and I suddenly couldn’t remember how to speak anymore.”
Superman lifts his head weakly, eyes drifting from the shard of kryptonite lodged in his gut to where Jason is stood, the eponymous hood under his arm. “Jason— please…” The words tumble from of his mouth, limp and cold.
“Yeah, it was along those lines.” Jason says, dispassionately, breath rising in front of him. “I called for you before that too. When I was a kid and my mom was sick and…” He trails off. “You never came.”
Blood is pooling in Superman’s mouth now. It dribbles down his cheek, onto the dirt floor. Clark’s eyes roll in his head. “Was— off— world—” He chokes the words out. Blood flecks his skin, silver instead of gold now, as the life seeps out of him.
“Bruce said.” Jason replies, “Not when Joker needed saving though.” He adds. A pause. “Saving.” There’s no malice in it, he’s just stating facts.
“m’sorry.” Clark mumbles. His lips are turning blue now, beneath the blood.
Jason shrugs. “Is what it is.”
“Help me. Please.” Superman’s words slur together. “Hav’a, hav’a— son.”
Jason scowls at that, a jolt of hot rage in his cold bones. He had been someone’s son once, twice. It hadn’t made a difference then. Why should it now?
“J’son, hel—”
“You’ve never helped me.” Jason replies, he’s feeling petulant now. About all he can feel in these temperatures.
“S’rry.” Superman grimaces again. “Would h’ve. Would’ve come. If y’ called.”
In the distance a green glow is growing larger on the horizon. Lanterns, Jason expects. He puts his helmet back on, stares down at Superman, expressionless.
“I did,” he says. “Once.”
Can you just talk about your mundane and crazy domestic basic Clark Kent ideas… I’m captivated by him
yes, this man saves coupons and doesn’t own a car but takes the subway or walks to work everyday despite being fucking superman. This guy loves baseball sooooo much he thinks baseball is the best sport in the world and he’ll infodump abt it if you let him. He’s the best cook in the league and makes the most delicious meals ever seemingly without any effort at all, he loves making food for everyone and everyone is always shocked at how good it all tastes.
This guy grew up watching shitty old sitcoms so of course his sense of humor is very old and specific. Also because of where he grew up and who he grew up with, he had a pretty strong accent when he was little but living in metropolis made it go away almost, it’s still there but it’s way more subtle.
everyone agrees with this but i’m putting it in here anyways, kryptonians have fangs, clark has little fangs, it’s the way it is, it’s real.
his hair is naturally very curly and it shows no matter what he does to it, as clark kent he slicks it back and makes it look nice but the curl still very clearly shows. as SUPERMAN, he of course still has his iconic little curl in front, but the rest of it is NOT perfectly slicked back, that’s STUPID and i’m GETTING RID OF IT!!! He’s fucking superman, always flying around at high speeds fighting crime doing all this crazy shit getting beat up or beating some jacked up monster up, there is no way in HELL that his hair stays that perfect, it is ALWAYS crazy, curls everywhere, very windswept look. That’s how it is cause I say so, l’m that powerful.
this is practically canon but he just lets himself into the batcave whenever he needs something from bruce and bruce stopped caring years ago because deep down he loves this guy and is overjoyed to see him everytime but would never say that becayse he’s bruce and bruce is fucking stupid and emotionally constipated. The only reason he does this to Bruce only is because he thinks it’s funny, anything that bothers batman is a little bit funny to him. He has a tiny little streak of doing-things-just-for-the-sake-of haha-sillies deep within him and he mostly takes it out on bruce. Like when he found out Dick’s favorite superhero is actually him and not bruce, he found that significantly amusing and often teases bruce abt it but in the most subtle way. He is the KING of subtlety when it comes to this stuff.
speaking of Dick, he and dick have gotten together to prank bruce on more than one occasion. Dick is usually the one to instigate it but Clark never says no.
this is more of a personal complaint of mine but still a headcanon i guess, his SKIN TONE IS NOT THAT WHITE!! THIS MAN LITERALLY SOAKS UP SUN RAYS TO CHARGE HIMSELF!! he is in the sun CONSTANTLY, he grew up on a FARM, he has very tan skin!! all these comic artists color him sooooo white and pale and it’s so INCORRECT. anyways, that’s all i have to say abt that
kryptonian eyes glow in the dark and it makes for some scary ass situations for other people i mean. speedster eyes also glow in the dark, i was gonna draw something abt this one day. like one time bruce was on the watch tower late at night and most of the lights were off, he’s just finishing up some stuff and was unaware that clark had not left the tower yet and so he turns around and there’s just two glowing red eyes in this dark hallway, and bruce is a bit unsettled for a minute until it speaks LMAO
clark loves ducks, like a lot. He likes flying with them he likes watching them in the pond at the park, he likes giving them little crumbs from his lunch occasionally, he likes them, they’re his favorite animal. Also because the kents always had ducks on the farm when he was little and he liked to chase em around and catch one and then just hold it and pet it for a while. He named all the ducks everytime they got new or more ducks on the farm
This man still believes in Santa Claus, this is actually canon in the DCAU and I fully support it. Which also leads to my belief that he’s one of those people that just loves christmas SO much, he’s always so happy when christmas rolls around he decorates early, he starts listening to the music early, he has at least four different ugly sweaters, and buys all his gifts for everyone early. he also decorates the watchtower and the hall of justice, of course everyone else in the league helps out with that too
this man always gets coffee for Lois too, he knows just how she likes it and she’s always appreciative and he and Jimmy have a buddy handshake and alsooooo uhm he and lois have little competitions and play little games when they get super bored on slow days, like paper football, or throwing wads of crumpled paper into the trash like basketball or who can type faster, and Jimmy is always the score keeper. sometimes the rest of the office will get into it too if Perry’s not around, like the office olympics episode of “The Office”. It doesn’t happen often because usually there is alot of things to do but sometimes there are those days.
okay that’s all i can remember rn sorry i wrote so much omg
Steddie ficlet
There was no window in the bathroom and the lights always flickered when the rides were running, but Eddie did the best he could with the trailer’s cracked mirror over the sink. Just a little liner at the corner of his eyes, not enough for anyone to consciously register it, but enough to make them stand out a little more. He straightened the bandana that was holding back the tumble of his hair and took a deep breath before clattering out into the main room, snagging a packet of cigarettes off the side before flinging open the door and leaping down the stairs.
Hawkins wasn’t exactly a major metropolis, and the park had been a little threadbare even before the fairground had arrived and churned up all the grass; Eddie’d made a cursory attempt to wipe the dust off his boots but had stopped and tried for nonchalance just as soon as Wayne had looked his way. It wasn’t like him to give a shit, he told himself he didn’t give a shit, but there was still a little gay flutter in his belly when he wound between the trailers and wagons and burst out onto the main thoroughfare.
As many drawbacks as there were in the carnie life, there was still something just a little bit magical about the fair when dusk fell, just on the cusp of night. Something about the way the lights flickered and spread, the contrast between the sunlight-bright stalls and the pools of shadow between them; it made it feel like anything could happen out of the wildest tales.
Wayne was manning the shooting range, and Eddie drummed his hands on the counter and watched the slightest smile tug at the corner of the man’s mouth. He came over to lean on the counter next to him, both of them watching as a wisp of a girl with a determined mouth subtly adjusted for the pull of the air rifle and took out three targets.
“So I guess I’ve got the hoops?” Eddie said, and Wayne let out a long breath and gave Eddie a hard look.
“Wasn’t like I was gonna get any work out of you otherwise,” he said, and Eddie bit down on a grin. It made something in Wayne’s eyes soften, and he cleared his throat. “You really like this one, huh?” he asked, and Eddie scoffed even as his stomach fizzed like fireworks.
“You’re crazy,” he said, “and you’re down a teddy bear,” and he walked away while Wayne was still grumbling under his breath and reaching up to grab a prize.
The hoops were just over the other side of the concourse, and Gareth flipped him the bird as Eddie stepped behind the counter, grabbing the army-grey apron from him, the change pocket chiming as it clattered against the wallet chain by his side.
“Yeah, yeah, I know, I’m late,” Eddie said. “How about to make up for it, I give you the rest of the night off?”
Gareth’s face brightened, and then he whistled, long and low. “Man, you’ve got it bad.”
Eddie ducked his head so his hair fell forward, ignoring the colour climbing in his cheeks. “Yeah, how about you fuck off before I change my mind.”
Off Gareth obligingly fucked, and Eddie lit a cigarette and lounged back against the side of the booth, his legs crossed at the ankle and his arms loosely folded across his chest. He stared unseeing out at the endless stream of punters, turning Gareth’s words over in his head.
It wasn’t unheard of for him to have a thing with one of the punters. Dating within the fairground got pretty incestuous pretty quickly, too many overlapping dramas when there were only a couple of guys there that shared Eddie’s tastes. So yeah, maybe he flirted, and sometimes he caught someone’s eye, and occasionally he pulled some guy back into the shadows behind the booth. He just never usually had feelings anywhere else than his dick.
And at first that was all it had been. A polished smile and a swoop of hair that’d grabbed his attention; a low voice and a glitter in dark eyes that’d coiled low in his stomach and made him want. Didn’t much matter that the guy’d been pulling a girl around behind him, her hair as fake and bright as her laughter as he knocked on the counter and paid for three balls. Eddie hadn’t been able to resist heckling him, with his flipped-collar polo shirt and his intense focus on the hoop.
What he’d been expecting was a glare, a slur, a seasoning of disdain. What he’d got had been a full-bellied laugh and a response that had startled a genuine laugh out of him. and a curl of interest that he hadn’t been able to smother since.
That night, the guy had spent more money than he should’ve, his competitiveness flaring as he set on figuring out the angles to beat the way the game was rigged. The girl with him had rolled her eyes and snapped her gum, looking out into the crowd like there could be anything more interesting than the guy’s tongue coming out to wet his lower lip, the way his arm muscles tensed as he took another shot.
Eventually, after three rounds, Eddie had taken pity on him, reaching up to grab one of the tiny garishly-coloured teddies that hung on the wall of the booth.
“Hope she doesn’t mind the size issue,” he said, winking outrageously, and had received another of those delighted laughs, his stomach fizzing in response.
“You don’t think underwhelming is what every woman secretly wants?”
Eddie had licked his lower lip, watching with that stupid heat in his stomach as the guy’s eyes had flickered down for just a second.
“Not really my area of expertise,” he’d said, a stupid risk, but while the guy had quirked his eyebrow, he hadn’t lost his smile.
“Trust me, they have no complaints,” the guy had said, taking the teddy bear and then, unexpectedly extending his hand. “Steve.”
“Eddie,” he’d responded, hesitantly taking the guy’s hand, half-expecting to be dragged forward across the counter, some kinda violent retribution for insulting Steve’s dick.
Instead he’d got a quirked smile and a considering look, before Steve had presented the tiny teddy to the girl he was with and escorted her back onto the concourse without even a backward look.
It had set a pattern for the rest of the summer.
Steve would show up twice or three times a week, always with a different girl on his arm. He would shoot a few hoops, win a small prize, and spend far more of his time bantering with Eddie than paying attention to any of the pretty girls he was ostensibly bringing out on dates. And that would’ve been that - a nice distraction, a change to Eddie’s routine, but nothing more than that... if it hadn’t been for the kids.
Eddie had been instantly a little concerned for them. One of them was wearing a goddamn wizard hat, for fuck’s sake, and as much as the fair was a place for heightened emotions and thrills and laughter, that energy could turn ugly at a moment’s notice. So when a high school junior - jock written all over him - had slapped the wizard hat off the kid’s head, Eddie had been just about ready to vault over the booth’s counter and raise hell. Only before he could move, Steve had been there, in front of the crowd of kids, towering over the bully with his hands on his hips like a disappointed parent. And not just that - the All-American Hero, Warrior for Justice part - but also the way the kids greeted him afterwards, like they knew him and liked him and didn’t have to go to any lengths to hide the extent of their geek. As a kid who’d grown up and gotten into metal and chains and leather partly as a self-defense mechanism, something a little lonely in Eddie’s ribcage gave a warm twinge. .
So yeah, he was one of the no doubt hundreds of people in Hawkins with a crush on Steve, and he’d been convinced that he was resigned to the pointlessness of that. Except he had maybe been holding out a little hope, still, ‘cos he could feel the way it fizzled out when he looked up, and grinned at Steve, and then registered the girl behind him and how he’d seen her before.
Fuck.
Steve made his usual overblown claims as he paid for three balls, but Eddie didn’t pick up on them. Barely watched as Steve sighted and threw, tossing him concerned glances between each shot. ‘cos he was - honestly, Eddie was angry with himself, ‘cos he’d known and somehow grown tendrils of hope anyway, no matter that he knew better.
“Eddie?” Steve’s voice was soft, and he was leaning forward over the counter, his fingers a little outstretched like he wanted to grab hold of Eddie’s hand. “You okay, man?”
“Congrats,” Eddie said, and bypassed the usual prizes to grab one of the enormous stuffed monkeys that hung from the top of the booth. “Second date, huh? That’s big.”
Steve took the stuffed toy, a frown on his face.
“Robin? No, we -”
“Step right up!” Eddie bellowed, watching with a grim sort of satisfaction as Steve flinched a little at the volume and stepped back. “Three balls for a dollar, try your luck!”
“I -” Steve started, but the girl tugged on his sleeve, his name in her voice exasperated but still kind of fond. “I’ll be back,” Steve said, and Eddie shrugged like he didn’t give a shit, ducked his head to hide behind his hair. “I’ll be back, okay? We need to talk.”
“Sure,” Eddie mumbled, and scanned the crowd for Gareth, so he didn’t have to look at the determination on Steve’s face.
Chapter Fourteen: Do I Wanna Know (Jason's POV)
When we got to Clark Kent's home in Metropolis, I offered to sit in the car, but Laney insisted that I go with him. He hesitated before knocking on the door, and he turned to me. "They're in there. I can see them," Laney whispered. He grabbed my hand and started breathing heavily. Lois answered the door, and she looked at me and then at Laney. "Hello," she said. Laney couldn't breathe, let alone move. "Hi... I um—. We can tell you why we're here, but we can't say anything in the hallway," I explained. She let us in, and Clark looked up from his dinner. I nudged Laney. "Tell them who you are," I whispered. Laney looked at Lois and then at Clark before taking a breath. "I'm Jonathan Lane Kent... And I—. Uh," he swallowed hard, "I used to be your son. Someone else raised me, and he raised me to kill metas, but I came back to the present, and I erased myself from existence to save the world from different versions of myself—." Clark stopped him. "You're our son?" he asked. Laney nodded, and he tried to force a smile on his face. "Are you our son too?" Lois asked me, and I shook my head.
"No, I'm his best friend from the afterlife. Laney, do you want me—?" "I'm sorry. The afterlife?" Clark interrupted. Laney nodded. I wanted to let Laney speak for himself, but it seemed like he didn't know what else to say. "Laney came a long way to see you... He's a good person, and all he wants is to get to know his family," I explained. Laney hovered just above the ground, anxiously awaiting their dismissal. I knew better. Lois was the first to embrace him, and he hugged her back. "You can call me Mom," Lois whispered to him.
Clark waited until she let go to pick him up and embrace him. "It's so nice to meet you. We'll talk about how you got here once you both get something to eat," Clark whispered, "Where are you kids staying tonight?" Laney was beside himself. He pushed his sleeve across his face to wipe his tears as they flooded to the surface. I took my hand and rubbed his back. "Well, we were gonna stay in a hotel," Laney answered, "Sorry, I—. Thank you for inviting us to dinner, but I just—." "Please stay for dinner... And stay the night," Lois interrupted. We didn't argue with her. We washed our hands and sat down at their table. Laney was uncharacteristically silent. It was so weird seeing him with his parents. He looked so much like them, but I knew he felt out of place. "The afterlife?" Clark asked once more, and Lois shot him a look. "Mhm. When I erased myself from existence, I got sent to the afterlife. That's where I met Jason. He stopped me from trying to kill myself, and I've been with him ever since," Laney answered without looking up from his plate. His parents looked over at me. "I don't remember the afterlife, but I know he's been by my side ever since I got resurrected... And he stuck by me even when I thought he was a hallucination caused by severe brain damage," I added and then realized I made things more awkward. "Are you still close with Bruce?" I took a sip of water and hoped they'd forget that Laney and I just admitted to being two traumatized teenagers on a road trip. "You're Bruce's Jason?" Clark asked. I nodded. "Okay... So, you died, and you gave up your existence. You both met in the afterlife, became friends, and returned to life—." "That's where it gets weird. Jason got resurrected... And when I followed him, I was still a ghost. But he did some sort of spell, and now I have a physical body, but I'm not even sure that I'm alive," Laney replied, "Also, I guess I'm just here to meet you guys. We never got to know each other, and I don't know... I feel stupid asking for this. Will I ever really feel like a son to you guys?" I felt sick to my stomach. Laney had no idea how much he deserved this life. He was supposed to have loving parents and family dinners and firm hugs. It was his life. And I was holding him back... "Lane, I'm gonna go get some stuff from the car," I whispered. Laney grabbed my arm and shook his head. "Jason, please," Laney pleaded with me in a whisper tone. I sat down, and we finished dinner in near-silence. Once dinner was over, he and Clark followed me down to the car, and we took our bags upstairs. I took my shower first, and when Laney came out of the bathroom, he sat next to me on the bed. His parents walked into the room to talk to us. "Are you boys dating?" Lois asked. We both started to laugh. "No," Laney smiled, "We're not dating." They both nodded and left the room. Laney waited until I lay down to lay his head on my chest. "You can stay if you want to," I whispered. He made a soft noise and pushed his face into my chest. I could feel his tears penetrating through my shirt. Before I knew it, he was sobbing and clutching my shirt in his fists. I shushed him and rubbed his back. He hiccupped and cried, and I rested a hand on his neck. "Stop it, okay? I'm just saying, I'll visit you anytime you want me to... If this is where you want to be," I reassured him. "You never asked me," Laney sniffed. I took a deep breath. I didn't want to leave Laney, but I assumed he wanted to stay with his family. "What do you want to do?" I asked. Laney took a deep breath before answering, "I want to stay with you." I smiled and played with his hair. "Where you go, I go. It's time for me to stick with you now," I whispered. We didn't say anything else after that. He fell asleep with his head on my chest, and I stayed awake. I didn't know what we'd do from there on out, but at least I knew we'd be together.
Letters - Alfred
after the reader's death, in a time after part 1 and before part 2, the batfam receives therapy and as part of their therapy, they write grief letters to you, the reader.
Italics are used to represent smudged words due to tears
‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎ ‎┌──═━┈━═──┐
Dear Little Moon,
I hope you’ve been… well. I hope things are doing better for you, certainly much better than they were a few months ago.
Better than how things have been for me, at least.
The others don’t stop by the manor much anymore. Cass sticks to your old bedroom, Duke seems to wander aimlessly, Jason and Steph seem to visit your grave just as much as Tim and Barbara have lately.
But most of all, Bruce is always in his study or in his room, and Dick? He hasn’t come around once since you’ve died. I’ve only overheard he’s been locking himself inside his apartment in Bludhaven.
Everyone thinks he’s punishing himself for your death, and he certainly is. But if anyone should be punished for your death, I’d say it should be me.
I.. I was the one that pulled the trigger, after all. The one that took you away from this world, as dark as Gotham may be.
You always did find a way to be some sort of light for everyone around you, even when you were a child. I always wondered how you could appear so happy all the time despite how often you cried because of your nightmares.
I spend most of my time keeping busy. Cooking meals Bruce won’t eat, cleaning again and again. Sometimes spend a few hours out of my day looking through pictures of you.
I remember how, on your tenth birthday, you wanted to go to the zoo. The one that recently opened in Metropolis, specifically.
You’d even practically begged for Bruce to come with, and I can still remember just how often you’d dragged him around to see all the things you wanted to see. While he may have seemed unamused, he was certainly happy to keep you entertained.
I even remember how long you spent looking for a gift for Bruce’s birthday that year, too. His sixteenth birthday and you wanted to make sure it was a gift he’d really like.
Truly it didn’t quite matter. He would’ve liked anything you got him, even if it was some toy from the store or anything else you quite liked at that age.
I keep most photos the manor has up of you in my room now. Ever since your funeral, ever since your death, no one’s been really able to walk in through the manors front entrance.
When they do, they usually sit there for a few minutes and stare at those photos. Or just shut their eyes and briskly walk past.
Do you remember all the times we’d spend in the manors kitchen when you were younger? How often we’d make something- anything- to make you feel better?
I certainly do.
I remembered how often you’d get at least something everywhere. Whether it was flour, sugar, or even eggs, you always managed to make a mess. But that’s fine, because I could never tire out of cleaning those up with you.
I would give anything, in fact, to have to clean up flour or cake batter off the kitchen floor at some random hour in the night again.
I would give anything to come downstairs to the manors kitchen and see you baking because you were stressed over school or something at work. I would give anything to have to wake you up in the morning because you slept through your alarm.
I’d give anything and everything to be able to talk to you again, my little moon.
But I also wonder if you’d resent me. Do you hate me, for having to kill you? Do you hate me as much as I hate myself? Would you ever be able to forgive me for what I did one day? Or would you tell me that it was okay, that I did what I had to?
I so desperately wish that things could be different. I want them to be. You used to jokingly say we wouldn’t be able to do function as a family without you, and truly? You were right. We can’t function. Much less look each other in the eyes.
The family dinners you used to love so much have been dwindling. Becoming less and less often, with less and less of the others showing up. But I think it’s because they can’t help but stare at your empty seat when they do.
I still sometimes forget you aren’t here for dinner anymore. Still make your favorite dish, set up a plate just for you in your seat, only to be reminded. I think that’s why Bruce doesn’t eat outside of his study now.
Bruce feels like he failed you. Jason, Barbara, and most of all, Dick, too. But if anyone failed you, it was me. I could’ve tried to look for other options before killing you, but I didn’t.
Even though the question of “what could we have even done” is there, I can’t help but think I could have done something different. Something that didn’t have the outcome of me having to watch you, my child, get buried before me.
There are so, so many things I still wish to see. I want to see you grow up more, see you achieve all the things you dreamed. But now I won’t even have that chance. You won’t even have the chance to one day see Damian graduate, which is something I know you were excited to see. Nor will you get to see Cassandra graduate, either.
They’ll probably still have a seat reserved for you anyway. Right in the front row. I’m positive they’ll still mention you in their graduation speech, just as the others did.
I’m sure they will remember you for a long, long time. I know we will all remember you for a long time. You are nowhere near as replaceable as you used to think you were.
It’s a fact that you aren’t replaceable to me, either, my child. My little moon.
-Alfred Pennyworth
Wow that’s was quick! lol got some more if that’s ok?
1: was Chris always Nightwing phantom or was he superboy 2?
2: before teaming up with Jake, was he in a duo with Jon? I can see them as superboy blue & red.
3: how did starknights became a group?
4: does starknights have a rivalry with the titans of tomorrow? Like dance offs
5: what’s some headcanons do you have for the members of both groups? (Besides the duo of course since I’ve mostly been asking questions for them.)
6: do they watch YouTube? Do they like YouTubers that most kids today like, markipiler, vanoss, game theory, etc…
I’m a faster typer @gothicghost2000 It just matters on if I’m busy that moment or not lol
But anywho, onto our main program,
1. Chris was nicknamed a ‘Superboy’ by the press during his first few weeks on Earth (Conner was unavailable to comment at that time; probably due to Chris landing at an earlier point in the timeline like prior to the emergence of Doomsday, or due to Conner being lost in another universe at that time) but he himself never truly claimed that mantle, letting his adoptive brothers split said mantle evenly between them while instead fairly splitting the Nightwing mantle with Dick
2. More or less the two operated together side by side during some weekend days when all the Supers were on patrol across Metropolis. They’d even sit next to each other for lunch breaks on the clouds. As Metallo can attest, once the two of them tag teamed during a brawl, the chances of getting humiliated during a super beat down jump up by 200%.
3. It happened timeline wise sometime after Zod’s invasion and Chris’ reconciliation with the Kents; the HIVE had reformed as an Academy for supervillains in training, hiring long time Titans villain Brother Blood as it’s headmaster. Severel of those villain students were sent out to test their abilities a wide assortment of heroes, mainly either the Titans or their children. While the individual attacks were repelled, it spurred the heroes affected, Cerdian, Jasper Logan and Jai West to launch their own investigations to find where those villains originated from. The Starburst Duo, who were already in the middle of finding Brother Blood prior to the attacks, had infiltrated the HIVE Academy, disguised as junior villains themselves to gather evidence and information for Blood’s plans and schemes.
All of these heroes soon gather together when Cerdian, Jai and Jasper launch a direct assault on the HIVE Academy. However, thanks to Blood’s enhanced abilities and prowess, the three are left at the ropes. Just then the Duo reveal themselves, aiding the three heroes in defeating Blood, sending him and the HIVE scurrying. With the Academy taken down and realizing their potential as a team altogether, the five heroes gather at the Fortress of Fotitude and after much talk between them all, agree on a candlelight pact of friendship and partnership with each other, vowing to stand together in times of need against the forces of evil, like their parents before them.
Thus was born Team StarKnights
4. A friendly, familial rivalry, but a rivalry nonetheless. Both teams are very committed to helping one another as superheroes and as family but when it comes to small contests of skill, strength, power and teamwork, basically simple games and friendly contests that way to find at a family reunion, they are fierce contenders that are determined to win fair and square. And yes, fierce is an apt way for describing how they go about with the games, ranging from dance offs, races across the entire planet between Irey and Jai, hot wing eating contests, tug of war, and many more.
The fact, with the exception of Robbie Long on the Tomorrow Titans, it’s also technically a battle of the sexes further adds competitive fuel to the fire. Though to be clear, no one in either team has the pettiness of saying “Boys are Better than Girls” or vice versa even during the most heated moments of their contests. They’re respectful to each other in spite of the fierceness
5. Cerdian, his sister Tula and Jasper have a strong dislike for fish being served for dinner, for similar yet different enough reasons. Cerdian and Tula, being Atlantean, prefer not seeing friends they make during their time in the water being cooked while Jasper is a firm vegetarian, inherited from both of his parents.
Lian and Jai often are the ones to help Irey when it comes to finding people to vent out frustrations she’s having a school. In turn they too engaged with venting out how their days had gone. The way their individual teachers can be quite sarcastic, crude and rude in their classes frankly a common complaint they all have.
Team StarKnights insist with fire in their hearts as a whole that Superman is the leader of the Justice League. The Titans of Tomorrow counter just as passionately that it’s Batman. Except for Lian who actually knows the true leader….Oracle.
6. Yep, the Duo and their many friends and loved ones are YouTubers, mainly with video game walkthroughs, music videos, and cute puppy and kitten videos. None of them though watch Game Theory though; they see that guy as problematic.
could you post other parts of your og draft for “call me from the platform”? i love your stories and the way you write the characters is amazing!
ahh thank you! <3 <3 <3 This ask makes me feel like a real fic writer lmao. I'd love to share!!! call me from the platform is definitely the fic I've spent the longest working on, and each draft was so different!
Here's a cut scene from the draft where I was still doing Damian's POV:
Damian couldn’t eat the breakfast sandwiches. They were made of egg, cheese, and bacon. He texted Jon and instructed him to meet at the nearest park. Damian already claimed a picnic table for them. The food was cold by the time he got there, but he accepted the bag when Damian pushed it toward him.
“Thanks,” Jon said.
“I can’t eat them. They’re probably terrible, anyway. Drake bought them.”
“Why did he buy you food you can’t eat?” Jon asked, unwrapping a sandwich and taking a bite.
“He bought them for himself,” Damian studied Jon’s face carefully, and pointedly added, “and Conner.”
Jon huffed a little laugh, which was extra gross because he was eating. He chewed and swallowed.
“Wow, Conner. He must be growing on you. You called me Kent forever.”
“Shut up, Kent.”
Jon smiled fondly and Damian forced himself to looked away.
“Aren’t you going to ask why I stole their breakfast?”
“Was it because they annoyed you?”
“Conner said he knows you’ve snuck out of the house.”
Jon cringed.
“Oh, shoot. Well, sometimes it’s hard to stop yourself from listening and everything. Dad’s way better at it. I bet he doesn’t know, at least.”
Damian leaned forward.
“Have you ever accidentally listened to Conner? Perhaps there’s something we could use against him, to make sure he doesn’t tattle.”
“Um… no. But I don’t think he’ll tell. He’s cool. And he hasn’t so far.”
Damian sat back and tapped his finger against the table. So, Jon didn’t know. He didn’t think he did, because Jon told him everything. The thought made his stomach twist but he ignored the pull of guilt. Jon told him everything, and Damian had secrets. They both knew it, so it was fine.
He thought that seeing Father for essentially two days a week would repair their relationship, but they fought more than ever. When they returned to the cave in the early hours of dawn they got into their worst fight yet over whether or not Damian would be attending college. He pretended to go to bed before sneaking out and catching a string of public transportation to the outskirts of Metropolis. By the time he walked back to Tim’s he’d been up for 24 hours and all he wanted to do was wake him up and tell him the new plan—  that he would be staying in Metropolis full-time and patrolling with Jon— but it wasn’t Tim sleeping in his bed.
It was an embarrassing shock, to say the least. He’d learned to knock after years of living with Dick and Bruce, but he never expected that sort of surprise from Tim. And he certainly didn’t expect Tim to be gay or bisexual or whatever. He managed to compose himself before confronting the clone— but then he tried to pull that basic blackmailing bullshit, threatening to make it more difficult for him to see Jon. It set him off, even though now that he’d had time to cool down, he realized Jon was right. Conner Kent was hardly a threat.
It wouldn’t be right to tell Jon, no matter how much he itched to.
But finding out Tim was queer rattled him and left him strangely on edge. He wanted to talk about it with someone, so they would be rattled, too, and he would have concrete proof that it wasn’t just him. It was news that would shock anyone. If Grayson found out, he would be rattled. If Jason found out, his chest would tighten. If Duke found out, he would feel off balance. Just like Damian.
Jon crumpled up the sandwich wrapper and shoved it back into the bag. He stretched. He could draw Jon with his eyes closed but he still caught himself staring at him all the time like he was a fresh face he needed to memorize. By this point it must’ve been habit. Jon’s arms were long and lean, but he had filled out a lot since starting high school. The lines that made up his face had gotten sharper. His eyes, even behind his glasses, were brighter than the blue sky behind him. It was impossible to capture the way they lit up on canvas, even though Damian was a very talented artist.
“Do you want to hang out at my house?” Jon asked.
Damian wasn’t sure what he wanted at all.
"Why can't you trust me? I'm your son and partner am I not?"
"That's enough"
"I had it covered and you just assumed the worse and for what?"
"Maybe because you are unstable and could kill anyone at any second, I don't need that. You almost killed the man!"
"I didn't! I wasn't even hitting him, you just assume so! The only reason he looked that bad is because he tried to kill me, so I took the best course of action! Why don't you trust me?"
"CONSIDERING YOUR TRIPS TO THE LAZARUS PIT I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO NOT TRUST YOU!"
Damian's entire body shifted from anger, shock and to sorrow, his voice was wobbling "What..?" Bruce took a few seconds to recognize his words and immediately reached out "I didn't mean that, I'm sorry Damian"
Damian was staring at the ground. Dick looked like he just got shocked, Jason stopped working on his motorcycle and looked over, Stephanie and Tim stopped sparring, Cass was stone-faced and Duke dropped his weapon that he was using in the simulation. Damian moved away from Bruce's reach and became tense.
"BRUCE THOMAS WAYNE!" The cave went silent as Alfred Pennyworth's booming voice echoed. Everyone stopped moving and possibly breathing as well. Damian's eyes were welling with tears and as much as he may like to hear Alfred scold his father, what was said made Damian storm out. Before leaving, he glanced at Alfred, Alfred looked back at Damian and looked remorseful. Damian went upstairs and left the scene to his room.
Who knows how far Alfred's voice was in Gotham. Maybe Metropolis could hear it. Gotta bet that the Kent's ears were ringing now.
Because I unwillingly died that means he can't trust me? It's bullshit, after everything! I've changed, I don't kill because I wanted to be accepted into this family and now I enjoy doing things in the name of Justice that doesn't involve murder. Yet he'll find any reason to not trust me. Why am I never enough like the others? Father brought Richard in after the tragedy of the Graysons. Father took in Jason when seeing his condition and wanting to make a change for the child he was. Father saw the talents that Timothy upheld and the two worked. Father took in Cassandra when she needed it most. Father helped Duke when he went through a severe thing and was taken in as to not be alone. The only other one who could say wasn't exactly wanted is Stephanie, but even she's more capable and father sees that. Yet I was dropped off by mother and hurt this family. It feels as if I'm not part of it. Outcast, unwanted, violent and unstable. I HATE THIS!
He slid his back against the wall, sitting down with his head low.
Unstable
How could he trust you?
None of them do
They never should trust you
Demon
Violent
Assassin
How many times have you died?
How long until you snap and decide to kill again
How long until you are so unstable you are no longer wanted
You weren't w--
"Damian? Can you hear me?" Damian felt someone's hand get close and he smacked their hand away. "No touching, got it. Can I sit by you?"
Damian looked at the person, Bruce looked upset, not a Damian, but at himself from the looks of it. Damian shrugged and Bruce took that as a yes, sitting next to Damian.
"There is no excuse to my words. I can only apologize for my idiocy and hope you can forgive me. I understand if you don't, I don't expect an immediate response. You don't deserve that, you've been through so much and you didn't have a choice. It's irresponsible of me to have used that against you"
"Tt. You're getting sentimental father"
"What can I say? You are my children, I can't help but lower my walls unfortunately it took me so long to let you all in"
"A trip to the zoo plus ice cream and maybe I'll forgive you"
"You drive a hard bargain"
"Just us"
"Tomorrow, I'll make it happen"
Damian nodded and gave Bruce a quick hug before standing up as if nothing happened. Bruce smiled and got up, he stopped before closing the door when he heard Damian.
"Thank you father, as painful as it may be to remember my place... I can say that I do cherish this family I have made. Thanks to you I am able to see it"
