oh my god i forgot to post my absolute favorite strip from gay comix (issue #2, 1981)
#this collection is full of so many hilarious vignettes#between the fictional and biographical they range from hilarious to saddening but theyre all candid looks at#lgbt life in the 60s 70s and 80s#id recommend it if you're interested in older underground work#edit: for ppl who notice the opening blurb i will say this:#1. Many artists in the underground comix scene (yes the lgbt ones too) delighted in being overly provocative for the sake of it#hence the cringeworthy 'political unity is not the goal' line#2. i worried abt this too when i started going thru the issues but there are quite a few strips and comics focusing on the trans experience#that said. there are unfortunately not a lot of transgender artists involved in this collection#3. given the preceding two points i think its fair to say that a good chunk of the strips in gay comix just. Suck#but like they actually said it's important that we're capable of recognizing that a full 40 years down the line#so we can actually learn something from the life experiences the mistakes and even the lack of perspective tht sm of these artists displayed#nocturnal writings

you may hate james vowles as much as you wish to, i don't give a fuck. williams are doing some real random and stupid shit. but is any of this franco's fault? no!! if you'd actually seen him and taken more than 5 minutes trying to learn about him, you'd see how sweet of a person he is and how much he deserves this opportunity, so don't go around spreading lies about it.

#this new age of art ''advice'' is a fucking scourge honestly. like 95% of it is worthless at best and actively detrimental at worst#but that one clip in particular rattles around my head every so often#like what.....#in general. i think most bad art advice comes from the mindset that there's an endgoal to art#-the goal of drawing someone isn't to make them attractive; a character can look good/interesting without being#traditionally attractive. it's not a sign of bad art to draw a character that doesn't look like a sexyman#you HAVE to learn how to draw and stylize features and body types that aren't traditionally attractive. please#i could go on about this but. please draw ugly people

#i'm feeling nosy#i was team captain#shortstop#setter and ace server#okay at basketball as a wing#genuinely good at soccer as a striker/forward - i could dribble but i could not shoot goals to save my life i always overshot#i was dangerous in elementary school i.e. i wasn't allowed to play cause i played too rough and hit the balls too hard#i think it was cause i was used to playing against my brother and his friends....#alas now i can't walk so much so the only sport i'm good at is competitive crawling#i wanted to be a ballerina but was very bad at acting and dancing and singing#my singing voice is so bad it'd wobble glassssssss#very very very bad#i wanted to be good at the arts though#i was artsty only in that i could draw#and i liked to write things...like i wrote horoscopes for the yearbook and school papers lol

#fanart#sketch#my art#bnha#shigaraki tomura#tenko shimura#kurogiri#I cried a bit while playing it I missed the classic LoV I missed Kurogiri WITH the LoV it's been so long :(#and it feels like last chapter (423 atm) broke the seal of sketching them as anything but something static#it took me two or so days to just understand that Kurogiri is... yeah#I can't believe it took Horikoshi so long to bring him back but as I said and will say it again I glad it happened at all#after some thought I just want to sit with the chapters#anyway getting the preordered book was so much fun#it was full of LoV from Toga and Dabi talking about her house to Tenko being upset over being told that he doesn't have friends#and everything in-between basically only Compress left to join in the next volume#I think????#I actually want to get another one already they're so goodddd#and the translation sounds pretty good but I checked some pages not the whole book it'll be boring#it's actually so weird to think that I started a goal of reading the whole series ad it was now officially coming out like this back in 201#and now it's 2024 and the translation is pretty much ahead of anime and maybe it'll be faster than viz volumes too#since it's 2 in 1 basically - I think it's really great since I save some money but get LoV chapters every time#because they appear every 2 books at the start of the series and back then it was hard for me to get them#but I felt content seeing all the books that I bought when I was visiting family for holidays this month because there are so many of them#and I don't need any wi-fi or internet in general to read them back to back now with an addictional volume#they have some mistakes but I don't mind them it feels good to just hold all of them (and a bit heavy after like 8 books) and now it's 18

It's kind of funny that Kendall and Shiv are both equally delusional about their ability to charm people for business and somehow think they can do it even though they choke almost every single time, whereas it's like the one thing Roman is consistently good at despite being the "least legitimate" option.
I think part of this comes down to the fact that Shiv and Kendall both have very clear ideas of the versions of themselves they're trying to be and the images they're trying to project, and they're trying so hard to be seen that way that they end up coming off as a little desperate and off-putting. Meanwhile Roman "knows" that there's something wrong with him and he's worthless, so he doesn't get sucked into the trap of trying to force people to see his idea of himself and instead molds himself into whatever he thinks the other person wants from him because that's the only way he can compensate for "being him," which works very well in the short term but also means he's the least capable of maintaining any relationship for very long because he has no sense of self.
#this was going to be a joke about kendall consistently failing to charm anyone that isn't stewy (and still for some reason thinking he's#good at it) but then i thought about it too hard and started connecting dots#but it is really interesting on a character level to analyze the different ways the siblings act when they're trying to win someone over#kendall and shiv will try to find common ground but they always end up pushing too hard and overplaying their hands because they're#focusing too much on wanting to get the person to take them seriously or see them the way they want to be seen#and roman will test the waters a bit but not say anything definitive until he get the person talking and can see what it is they want#and then just says whatever it is he thinks they want to hear#which also makes a lot of sense with the abuse dynamics since he was the one most likely to actually get hit so the goal is to just make#sure dad never gets angry at you and tell him whatever you need to to avoid that because the consequences will be worse#anyways its 2 am here you go#succession#kendall roy#shiv roy#roman roy
