we don’t acknowledge enough how dee used to be a pageant winner when she was a kid and how much damage it did to her. she worked her ass off and got recognition for being pretty and talented at a young age and it was the only source of self esteem she could garner in a family that constantly berated and talked down to her. she sought after that external approval because it was the only way she could prove everyone around her wrong. her dream of being a performer didn’t come from a self-aggrandizing delusion— she genuinely showed a lot of potential when she was younger. but she went through an unflattering puberty and her spinal condition got worse and that natural talent she had as a kid plateaued way too early. the “former gifted kid” dilemma. she slowly lost the thing that promised her that she was good, but she was so desperate to keep holding onto it that she tried anyway. again and again and again no matter how much people made fun of her because it was always about proving them wrong. but after a while she couldn’t jump anymore without anticipating the way it feels when she hits the ground face first. self-sabotage became her way out, choosing to rather live in the fantasy of her own unrealized potential and blaming those around her for her lack of success, than having tried and crashed again. she’d rather buy lottery tickets over and over and never scratch off the numbers than to see that she lost. that self-sabotaging behavior bled into other aspects of her life too, from friendships to relationships to therapy. her own short lived success is what made her grow into embodying the cycle of failure.

Freddami qpr, and they are private people so they wouldnt really tell anyone theyre in any sort of relationship + their friendgroups are kinda. opposed. (and they should be too but theyre idiots im not getting into that.) Theyre both in majority black cause they both consider themsleves bad people, and in reguards to their arospec identities, they have both thought of themselves as "heartless" for not feeling romantic attraction ( either in the same ways as most people, or at all) camis eyes remain covered (they would be closed under the bangs), freddys eyes are closed, a lackkk, an absence, but it allows for singing and dancing things they wouldn’t/can’t do in public or with any sort of audience. Freddy singing which he would like to do and have peoples attention but doesn’t due ti fear, cami never being in a leading role, always taking orders, but being the one leading the dance here. taking action, doing showing things togetherrrr taking the leas taking action… theyre comfortable with eachother…

Theyre dancing but they arent clasping hands theyre just olacing them together “holding” them but not. nomally. its not a normal clasp, and they arent dancing in a normal way wither.

for my fellow fans of longform video essays about media you may or may not be familiar with. i just watched laura crone's new video that's four and a half hours long and it's mostly about a book + tv series called the magicians, but ALSO the advertising/recommendation culture around books, and i really enjoyed it. i think i especially enjoyed it because i have been craving some Deep Thinks about like, what people criticize about booktok but without making it "it's uhhhh it's bad to only read bad books!" and i found this video both refreshing and insightful. i will give a CW for mentions of That One Wizard School Series, including in the title. just so you don't get jumpscared
