the failure of language
so im getting around to write some suonirei fanfic and, inevitably, got to Backstory Speculations activities. and now i begin to think about suo (windbreaker in general) and the failure of language -- when people, regardless of how much they try or how eloquent they find themselves to be, will find points where they are unable to give words to what they are feelings or explain some difficult emotions or circumstances to themselves or another person.
think, sakura going "how am i supposed to treat you now?" after hearing out umemiya's childhood story-- what is he supposed to say? to act in general? language, spoken or behavioral, failed him. umemiya redirected sakura to language: he did not expect sakura to treat him any differently. come back to the language you understand, he says. and now we complicated "language" to means "a vehicle of interactions and expression", which is functionally what language is.
well i did say that this arise from thinking about suo, most notably, thinking about how windbreaker expresses speechlessness and stillness very frequently from suo's silence. think the focus on suo's eyes at any moment where language are yet adequate to say what is happening: suo and nirei's response to sakura's solitary during sickness; suo's anger (in KEEL and shishitoren) occurring wordlessly; and, most recently (which sorta sparked this line of thought), this page

note the wordlessness. a lot of time, wbk starts out the responses to these sincere and vulnerable moments with this wordlessness, where characters ponder and reflect on the statement, often evoking their own memories and experiences, thus empathizing with the vulnerability in question. it is a reflective and thoughtful way to begin the process of empathy in silence. it feels ritualistic, even, like meditation, to begin connecting with other by a silence that could be taken to be a single-minded, pure focus -- on what is being put on the stage to ponder. maybe this is not quite a failure of language, depending on how we see it, but rather, a moment outside of language priming for its arrival. it is not time for language to enter the scene yet.
but then language always come, sooner or later. as awkwardly or curtly or roughly, sakura and nirei speak sincere words that come from the bottom of their heart. language -- thus connection and empathy -- then propel the conversation. suo, notably (at least without me combing through the manga again) often does not enter this realm of language the way sakura and nirei do it. when he empathize sakura's feelings when he was sick, suo did it where sakura cannot hear. the only(?) time he responded genuinely (please bring up examples or counterexamples if you have it on hand) was when nirei was feelings insecure about his inability to fight and ask suo for help. but even then, the response of "your self-esteem is all over the place" is not quite the personal, genuine approach sakura or nirei has. its quite measured and reflective -- responding to nirei's statements rather than clearly interjecting something to the conversation. many of suo's vulnerabilities are deflected by falsehoods (harmless jokes, not malicious lies), distractions, etc, etc. language seemingly continues to fail him, or he continues to evade it.
i am in a habit of not stating my Backstory Speculations, because a lot of times i want to stick closer to the texts. whatever Speculations i have will most likely manifest as fanfiction (oh boy is that an ambitious media to do this in). but anyway, from popular hc of suo being potentially a "traitor" or somehow entangled in a major and antagonistic organization, his failure to relate this to his friends and thus him hiding his past can be taken as another failure of language. perhaps languages continuously fail him in his childhood-- hence it has yet to learn how to succeed.
p/s: i should also say that im enjoying using different concepts and ideas to speculate/think about and analyze the text (wbk) in a different way. this is basically what comparative literature and literary criticism is, i think (lol). sometimes i feel like this is just me dressing up good ole literary theme in a fancier language, but whatever works works lol. hopefully as i continue to think of the "inability to express your true emotions" and "inability to be vulnerable" more specifically (or broadly) as a failure of language, more interesting insights will come up. its less about what the texts is literally and consciously say, and more about how we can think about the text using -- and extract from the text via -- various frameworks.
yep, this is probably gonna be a more complete essay at some point. i even pulled out the usual rccl register for this!
#rccl#wbk#wbk meta#wbk analysis#wind breaker#wind breaker meta#wind breaker analysis#suo hayato#sakura haruka#umemiya hajime#nirei akihiko#sorry for the many links. its mostly to the crisis of contact posts. im approaching linking like how i approach in-text citations#back on my bullshit#actually#like i vaguely have an impression that i got this “failure of language” thing from anne carson. but im not quite sure#thank you anne carson#anyway#deflection and evasion as an inability to confront something... hm. now thats interesting.#Backstory Speculations#more specifically i was thinking of a scenario where the adults in suo's life may have inadequately explained to him whats going on in life#like. to whatever potentially traumatic things that could feature in his backstory. or just the lost of the eye. if he lost it young#anyway adults often found themselves flailing around language. especially when they try to explain (or not explain) it to children#because children are not fluent at “adult language” yet.#they dont know enough about the world to understand euphemism or the severity of silence. so adult cannot use those things to talk to them#hence a mutual failure in language; but ofc adults. as the more experienced one. feel themselves more responsible for the failure.#because what can children do? can they be faulted for not knowing things they havent lived long enough to see?#see? what a difficulty of language#this can actually also be ascribed to sakura and how he grew up and how everyone (adults) in his life failed him#the failure of language becomes a failure of reflection and thinking becomes a failure of acceptance#well! seems like we are reaching new ground with this analysis already

I finished reading the war games arc recently, and Dick is seriously going THROUGH it.
Like this is immediately after blockbuster. Dick is actively in a toxic relationship with Catalina. And his self esteem is lower than the pits of hell.
Also I think it's really interesting that Dick spends a lot of the arc trying to convince Bruce not to trust Tarantula. Which, obviously we as readers know why. But until Catalina is actively putting people at risk, Bruce kind of doesn't really pick up on it. And Babs does trust her either obviously, but that's more from jealousy than actually having a reason to not trust her.
And on top of the Catalina mess, and likely because of it, Dick is borderline suicidal the entire arc of war games. So much so that Tim notices and brings it up several times. Dick keeps running into fights without thinking, taking hits he could've dodged, and just overall being a mess.
Idk I feel like when people discuss wargames they focus a lot of Steph and Tim, for obvious reasons.
But wargames Dick really needs some love.
Literally.
#Bruce even mentions Blockbuster dying#and it kinda seems like he thinks Dick did it?#But he's sort of just like its whatever#get your head in the game deal with it later#Like props for not giving your son shit for murdering someone#especially because dick didn't actually murder anyone#and that night was pretty traumatic for him#but also why was he so dismissing of dick this entire arc 😭#this is seriously some B- parenting mr. I saw your dislike of Peeta and yes omg.
It drives me nuts that the stylists, Effie and Haymitch are all like "you needed this, he did you a favor" as if she didn't manage to be allowed on fire by herself and had plenty going for her.
Like there was a poll about if the love confession was needed for her to win and I don't think it was. She got sponsors just fine without it and she could feed herself with snares and whatnot... Even without the bow she was a pretty good contender.
But noo.... It's all about Peeta's confession ... That saved her. Bullshit.
What really makes me mad is his reaction at the end. Are you seriously telling me that YOU confessed your feelings, told her to "remember they're in love" even though that's not true, and then somehow you're the one that's butthurt?
Dude this was all on you, Peeta.
Gah. I would love more of your anti Peeta thoughts.
yeah i agree that the love confession wasn't needed for her to win. what actually helped katniss the most was the arena- it was a woodland forest (and even with fewer sponsors she would have been able to feed herself and survive). the love confession strategy did help but i think what people forget is that it also really helped peeta- it made him memorable. like katniss had her score of 11, the whole volunteering for her sister thing (which endeared her to everyone) and the girl on fire moniker. peeta was set on fire right next to her and nobody in panem was calling him the boy on fire so i think its clear from the beginning who already captured the audience's attention. the love confession helped because he was able to create a sort of loverboy image that probably got him heaps of sponsors.
tbf i wouldnt say that i am anti peeta i would say i feel a mix of indifference to his character and dislike of him due to some of his behaviour and the fact that i dislike how katniss is made to feel around him (inferior) and the fact that he honestly isn't that well-written a character.
i think it was pretty obvious that peeta was going to be katniss's endgame, especially after the both survived the first book. and i do think because of that, peeta was pretty poorly written. all his motivations revolve around katniss; he spends basically all his life in love with her (or the version of her in his head) and is also willing to die for her. we know nothing about his family dynamics, his friends, how he feels or copes with his amputated leg, how he feels about the fact that his entire family and most of his friends end up dead. this is likely a result of katniss narration because she is honestly incurious as to how peeta feels about anything (unless its about her, lmao). even in mockingjay he goes through horrific torture, but even that experience becomes all about katniss (bc he is brainwashed to hate her). basically, peeta's whole actions and world seem to revolve around katniss, which to me is just not that interesting. also i think it's weird that the narrative (and fandom) paints peeta's willingness to sacrifice himself for katniss as a sign of his love or goodness when it's likely a result of being raised in an abusive household where he has been called worthless his whole life.
another thing i really began to dislike is how katniss is made to feel in comparison to him. in the text, other people constantly make katniss feel bad and guilty for not appreciating him enough. the narrative poses peeta as morally superior and katniss as morally inferior. it posits peeta's "goodness" (loving her, wanting to die for her, throwing her the bread, likable) against her "selfishness" (she is closed off, angry, selfish, can't really romantically love anyone, and focused on her and her family's survival). granted a lot of this is because of katniss's self-loathing, but this assumption never really gets challenged. in fact, their dynamic is commonly portrayed this way in fandom, in metas and in fanfic. so while peeta never makes katniss feel like the lesser person, she still feels like the lesser person, and i just don't enjoy reading that dynamic which makes me dislike peeta at times (and the class and racial factors make this dynamic even worse).
the narrative paints him to be morally correct and very pure because it cant acknowledge a lot of what peeta does is morally grey and flawed. and given what suzanne collins has said about his character i dont think its meant to be biased narration- i think thats how we are meant to see him. he makes plenty of decisions on behalf of katniss without considering and his love confession essentially entraps her into a situation where she uncomfortable and cannot reject him. even the baby announcement is seen as a stroke of genuis, but peeta only brings it up once after the interviews. in fact, it falls on katniss to deal with the aftermath of it - she has to keep up the act of being pregnant and has to later pretend she miscarried, etc. the emotional burden falls on her. then when katniss gets mad about the love declaration, he never once apologises and instead gets defensive rather than actually caring how she feels (and then later talks about not wanting to be a piece in someone else's games, so clearly he understood how it felt to lack autonomy). and the narrative never really treats those decisions he takes on her behalf as being disrespectful of katniss's autonomy. its framed as peeta and haymitch knowing what's best for her (and i understand why they did it but it doesn't change the fact that wasnt fair on katniss). and the thing is, if the narrative actually treated these actions as flawed, i wouldn't find peeta as annoying.
also I find the portrayal of his character in fandom very boring. he is always correct, never has a bad thought, but is capable of persuading people to do anything, but is also the most compassionate, morally good, generous, empathetic and kindest person to ever live. this version of him does not exist in the text. and frankly i don’t understand what anyone could find interesting about a character who is a total saint. it's just not my cup of tea.
#i think peeta was 16 and desperate and going through a very traumatic situation#which made him very desperate to believe that katniss was in love with him#and he was in deep denial#but i also think it speaks to how little he truly knew katniss as a person#because aside from a few genuine moments in the games#katniss was acting completely out of character#during the interviews and the parade and even most of the time in the cave#and yet he did not seem to see or understand this discrepancy in her behaviour#and then had the audacity to act shocked like katniss had played him because she went along with the strategy he came up with#i hate how katniss was made to feel guilty for doing what she had to to keep them both alive#the hunger games#anti peeta mellark#just in case#but im not really anti peeta#he just does nothing for me

ok once again asking my tumblrinas for help because I'm not that knowledgeable about drugs: house and methadone.
so house takes methadone, he says it helps with the pain- actually no not help it makes the pain go away completely, and what do you know he's in a much better mood. wilson and cuddy flip out. wilson seems to think it's on par with heroin (if not worse) and his reasons is "if you miss a dose, if you mix it with a couple of drinks or mix it with the wrong meds, you'll die" but is it really? I know its dangerous in the sense that your tolerance is much higher and I know its still an opioid but die if you miss a dose? because of a few drinks? not to mention it's a prescription so it's a controlled substance. so does he mean it just as a 'house is unpredictable and changing his meds might be a bad idea?
#this is also the episode where the kid being intersex is like the greatest tragedy known to man and the parents can never tell him because#it would just traumatize him#so yeah#and cuddy and wilson do come around to it in the end#like the show actually seems to say methadone could be a good fit for house's case#but its that knee jerk reaction I'm interested in#(should I google it instead? probably. but hey. hopefullythis doesnt sound too stupid)#house md#the softer side#(5x16)

So I've been hanging around Touchstarved fandom for a while (for more than a year already), but I kind of forgotten about it lately. Mostly because of my disappointment with the new demo, and the talks about the release of the full game being put off.
But now I suddenly remembered it, and got a thought concerning the changes made in the demo to Leander's and Vere's characters.
So, Cain's main LIs are Mhin and Kuras.
But if she were to decide to go talk to Leander in the epilogue, then a secret Vere route will get unlocked.
This new Leander is shady as all hell, and clearly wants something from her, so Cain realizes that she needs to get out from under his "care" as soon as possible (even allowing him to continue paying for her apartments and food is dangerous). That's why she will be at Vere's door the next day because he's the only guy here who genuinely hates Leander. Kuras and Mhin will significantly lose their appeal because Mhin works with Leander, and Kuras is literally the one who recommended Leander to Cain in the first place. Now she would rather try her luck cooperating with Vere to achieve her goals.
#For someone who wants to die Cain has got some very strong survival instincts.#She can smell manipulative bullshit from a mile away - been there done that came out traumatized.#s/i: cain#I actually have quite a few things sketched out for her already so might as well make a tag to talk about it more later.#And even if the game is not out yet there's already *some* stuff I can say about how her relationships could go.#Keep in mind that those might not be canon at the end of the day. Just my speculations.#Also.#Ideologically I hate the fact that the new demo sanded off Vere's edges and made him nicer to the MC.#But on the other hand... he does seem like a more attractive romantic option for me with the changes that were made.

it's Harassing You o'clock so i am gonna discuss my oc some more in the tags
#really been considering misha's weird relationship with authority and how it'd present in like. his everyday life#i kiiinda feel like it wouldn't be as simple as 'if i am scared of you i bend the knee' or 'if i am scared of you i will kill you'#like i feel like for his Inevitable religious crashout. he kinda needs more nuance in this specific area#because he simultaneously fears AND idolizes the emperor. he like. Switches lol. i keep projecting my bpd on misha.#i think because the emperor like.. THEORETICALLY#he CANNOT and WILL NOT abandon or betray misha. because the Way to impress him (in misha's mind) is so straightforward? like the emperor is#a symbol. he isn't a person who particularly cares about an individual's fucked up thoughts or minor mistakes. and misha believes he is#like FAVOURED by him. has like this parasocial bond that many adepta sororitas seem to have with the guy lol#anyway. i feel like with REGULAR PEOPLE? things are getting a little fucked up for him. because he's been traumatized and betrayed and#tormented and maimed by Regular People. part of the reason he is soo Angry and willing to Pulverize—believes humans are predisposed to evil#he's not CONSCIOUSLY aware of that fact. but his misanthropy is a major factor in his character lol. always assumes he's going to be#betrayed yet often walks right into it because he is So Blinded With Hope that SOMEONE loves him and cares about him#HOWEVER he also pushes people away because he DOES NOT want to experience more betrayal or pain. like the typical borderline paradox#where you simultaneously NEED constant human contact and reassurance to function but also isolate yourself to keep yourself and others safe#i think by his like. ''game-time'' appearance he'd be very much in a 'DONT FUCKING TOUCH ME!!!' stage of his existence. makes his 'Own'#choices based on what He (emperor) tells him is right (misha is. delusional). struggles listening to authority figures like he could#when he was younger. generally just tries to keep to himself. which is a bit hard when you are in a nun mission LOL#i presume misha is working with an inquisitor or something and thus has more 'freedom' than his sisters. that's my only excuse for it akskdj#not to say he's like. some sort of rebel. he will go along with rules if it's easier and he has zero reason to Provoke you. but he is also a#moody and mentally ill freak with Anger ISSUES. thus will either be attacking YOU a heretic or himself. cannot repress his anger very well#at all LOL. it just Comes Out Of Him.#he IS a dogmatic puritan. at least for the most part. doesn't like BELIEVE IT in the sense that he GENUINELY believes it? believes it#because that's The Safest Way? Doesn't make him confront his relationship with religion and society? does that make any sense?#misha has MAJOR identity issues. he considers himself a totally empty vessel for the#emperor to enact his divine will. could not describe himself if you asked him to. not to say he DOESN'T have Traits or Qualities. he is just#hashtag bpd projection teehee..#had the Identity beaten out of him in the schola progenium <3#at least. misha believes the emperor won't abandon him. til he gets taken to commoragh and probably Loses It#anyyywayyyyyy. still fiddling around with him 👍#misha tag

i love love their size difference (like have you SEEN how big reaver is??) but also, just their general parallels to one another. there's something so fun about what they could be like together, especially with how firmly phainon follows the prophecy (if only that it gives him a purpose, not that he believes it) and reaver being someone who goes against it entirely – a threat to the purpose he was given ...
there's a lot of potential tension between them too, with reaver possibly locking him in a position he can't move in? the way they could 'read' him and what he's thinking and phainon doesn't know why, but reaver does. phainon not knowing, not recognising who reaver might be while trapped underneath him ... so fun ill stuff them into my mouth
- sun eater anon
yesssssss of course character foils flamephai!!! their foundation 😌
i love the tension between them too yeah!!! flame reaver knowing more about phainon than phainon knows about flame reaver or even about himself... that's the good shit. and obviously the self hatred that manifests between the both of them. hurting yourself by hurting the other, the naive sacrificial lamb and the one who became the knife for butchering. what happens if you are the worst version of yourself. what happens if you could be worse than you ever imagined. what happens if you are your own nightmare and you have to live with it.
#okay re: the size difference though AFJAKFJLDSJFS i know memory flame reaver is big for some reason but#he seemed pretty normal sized when he talked to krateros in 3.1 and when he appeared in that grove of epiphany sidequest#idk flame reaver proportions unclear i personally prefer him to be exactly identical to phainon for that good old twincest vibe 😏#Not That I Would Ever Be Against Size Difference.#🌃#phainon#flame reaver#also i need having sex with flame reaver to feel like having a traumatic flashback. he is the bad memory itself.

Sometimes I still think about The Owl House Gang all trying to watch ATLA together but then Zuko's backstory in The Storm retraumatizes Hunter so bad they have to stop
#luz is too young to have grown up with the show she just heard it was good#SHE DIDN'T KNOW GUYS#they all get super into it and the gaang and maybe even make some jokes about how Zuko reminds them of Hunter#and then suddenly it is Not Funny Anymore#they just straight up stop watching it because it was So Bad#and then months later Hunter is like '....... i really want to know where that show goes'#so they pick it up again#everytime Zuko makes a bad life decision Hunter is just dying inside#'your dad DOES NOT LOVE YOU YOU CAN DO BETTER'#season 2 is such an emotional rollercoaster#like zuko is figuring stuff out and seems like he's gonna redeem himself and everyone is getting so hype#because at this point they NEED to see this character get a happy ending because they have been throufh WAY TOO MUCH over him#and then in the season finale he regresses#the BETRAYAL#they are like wailing and rending their clothes like dudes in the bible#hunter just sitting there with his head in his hands#season 3 storyline with zuko at the fire palace is also massively triggering for him but he's being so normal about it#the rest of the squad on the copium like 'he can still turn this around guys'#secretly several of them have given up on him at this point but they can't admit that there's too much riding on this#and then zuko DOES IT but the scene is so tense that no one even feels like they can celebrate because they're all projecting way too hard#and then zuko redirects the lightning and they're like 'FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!'#there is much crying at the finale#luz and amity kin assigned eachother as aang and katara so they're really happy when they get together#hunter like 'mostly this is making me glad I didn't have to become the political leader of The Boiling Isles as a traumatized 16 year old'#'can you imagine'#these tags were not supposed to be this long lmao#toh#atla#avatar#my rambles

actually. the specific phrasing that boy Kevin wants to kill older Kevin with "I must disassemble him, piece by piece, so that everything inside of the Old Kevin comes out. Only then can the New Kevin truly begin." is so incredibly the idea that to heal from trauma and "improve" you have to destroy every "wrong" part of yourself, that everything "tainted" by it has to somehow be replaced by something untouched (which isn't possible)
#reading back that phrasing I do think that'll be the way brinknor takes it#this arcs seeming like it'll be so. breaking the cycle of abuse and violence and coming to terms with yourself#and maybe understanding that you can never remove the parts of you impacted by trauma and start again completely ''pure''#but you can treat yourself with the kindness you should've been given#which i hope it is that because. and understand i am biased. but i'd love that direction for Kevin#it feels much more satisfying than any more. angsty way this arc could go imo#like he's been through enough!#because of the way Kevin is portrayed in fanon. not as frequently anymore but still pretty common. I worry about coming off as woobifying#by saying I want him to heal I want him to have nice things I think he deserves them#when he's also simultaneously Not A Good Person#yknow the poor little innocent cinnamon roll baby etc etc fanon#but. well for one im Not Like That about him. but my main point of bringing that up is. him not being a good person is why I want to see hi#get better and generally have a good life. why does someone have to be good to deserve to heal from trauma#especially when trauma is a big reason for the way they are#like its fiction yeah yeah i'm still tired of mentally ill people having to be ''good'' to ''deserve'' to get better yknow#i mean especially in fiction you tend to either see mental illness as the poor traumatized one who's allowed recovery because they're nice#or the insane psychopath who cant be ''fixed'' so ''deserves'' bad things-up to deserving to die!- for it#i didnt mean for this to be a rant erm. oops#wtnv#wtnv spoilers#joyousposting

Hershel is actually the only character I've ever projected my dpdr onto. Idk, it fits him really well imo. Des' PTSD gives him uncontrollable fits of anger, Layton's makes him dissociate.
For those uninitiated:

#professor layton#hershel layton#desmond sycamore#jean descole#bronev bros#like I feel when you throw either into a traumatic situation at this point#des gets very proactive - FIGHT out of fight flight freeze - and channels all of his stress and fear into aggression#if he gets triggered you will KNOW because he will react very badly. and it's often embarassing for him but he's also pretty defensive#meanwhile you genuinely can't know with Layton because people attribute it to him being unflappable#something DEEPLY upsetting happens to him and he's weirdly on top of things and seems to be coping super well. but he's also kind of spacey#and doesn't seem to grasp the enormity of what he's experiencing or how fucked up it is or how he maybe SHOULD be reacting#and at some point probly he has to admit to someone that for a long time now his brain sometimes just shuts off and he stops feeling himself#the world kind of breaks down around him and becomes surreal and he's always tried to hide it so he doesn't upset anyone#it started with big things but sometimes happens in response to small#on bad days it can even be a child crying/screaming or certain names#emmy can give him a big hug#rambling over lol

#look ok#i see all the cute little fics with xl and hc talking about becoming parents and etc etc#and that's cute! that's adorable!! let them be happy!!!#but. you have to admit ok. hualian need to work through their own problems#like c'mon. xl picks up like AT LEAST three kids in the book and then proceeds to forget about one on his shelf for a while#just kinda. stands judgmentally with his hands on his hips about guzi and qi rong (it's really funny though don't get me wrong)#and after finally re-capturing lang ying he's like 'i'm gonna guardian you!' and then a whole bunch of shit happens and uh well#ly turns out to be the ghost of some kid xl traumatized 800 years ago come back for vengeance (L)#which means xl traumatized him multiple times lmao#we aren't even touching qi rong and lang qianqiu which YES i know the latter wasn't xl's fault and i am fully aware that the situation with#qi rong is and was complicated. BUT. come ON man can these poor kids never catch a break? the one kid he DIDN'T accidentally traumatize#turned out to be obsessively in love with him so like maybe this is for the best?#anyway i also just don't think they'd be... genuinely interested in a commitment like that? like hc would go along with anything xl wants#but he doesn't seem the type to be interested in kids (he's mostly just interested in xl)#xl isn't off the hook either ok#people bring up hc's treatment of e'ming but xl isn't exactly a saint to ruoye. i dont blame the guy he's got a lot on his mind#but he's also very.... absent#plus with the responsibilities of their respective positions all their extra time is like. spent on eachother jk?#this isn't to say xl doesn't *like* kids or anything i just don't think he would want to be a full-time parent lmao#also they DEFINITELY have their own issues with themselves as kids and i'm afraid that might translate into like. parenting#meme#tgcf#mxtx meme#tgcf meme#xie lian#hua cheng#lan wangji#wei wuxian#wei ying#lan zhan

My TOH time travel au is like. The Collector never stopped the draining spell. Hunter escaped its influence by going to the Human Realm, but when they finally return, everyone else is gone. Goop Belos is at large, King never learned to get along with the Collector because he was busy grieving, The Boiling Isles are in chaos.
Some shit goes down, the group gets separated, and King ends up with Luz and Hunter. In a moment of final desperation, he connects with his dad, and they use their titan magic to send Hunter and Luz back in time, not in a predetermined time loop, like the time pools, but basically creating a new universe where they have the power to change things. It takes so much energy that to accomplish it, both titans have to give up their life force (a la Rise!TMNT movie).
Hunter and Luz are now a few months in the past. In their timeline, practically everyone they know died, and their little brother just gave his life to give them a second chance. They are traumatized and codependant and DESPERATE to stop the day of unity.
From everyone else's perspective, two masked criminals suddenly appeared in The Boiling Isles. They strike hard and fast, and no one knows what they look like or what they're trying to accomplish. They use stange magic no one's ever seen before, and the Emperor's Coven can't keep up with them.
One of their first criminal acts? Kidnapping the Golden Guard.
(They couldn't just leave him there.)
#past!Hunter is NOT happy and he will NOT be cooperating with his captors#future!Hunter and future!Luz don't actually have a plan for what to do with him and they're kinda scrambling#from an outside perspective they seem like competent criminal masterminds but really theyre just like#gremlins living in a cave up near the skull#barely taking care of themselves. freaking out constantly.#past!Hunter is Not Impressed#he keeps nearly escaping because he's hunter and they're pulling their hair out over him#he needs a 24/7 guard one of them can't just stay to watch him because they have separation anxiety#eventually their cool plan to convince him that Belos is evil is to take him somewhere King told them about as proof#the golden guard graveyard#they did not expect it to be that bad#both hunters have panic attacks and The Truth Come Out#past!hunter just learned his whole life was a lie and ALSO him from the future is here and he's even more scarred and traumatized#plus a traitor to the empire#it's not ideal#the owl house#toh#luz noceda#hunter toh#my rambles

#tadc#kinger and pomni#were my favs#hence why i cried during that episode.#gangle is incredibly relatable with the art thing#jax us a jerk but incredibly funny. I'd honestly do the same uf i were him lmao#ragatha is trying her darn hardest but jeez does she seem to be falling apart 😬#i appreciate her kindness despite all she's going through tho.#kinger? love him. he might be my favorite so far.#pomni is going through it. full on traumatized.#and last but not least#zooble. i empathize with her a lot. she feels not listened to. she's unhappy with how she looks despite being able to change out her parts#and she seems to have a past with caine in my opinion.#also the thing with the gummy dude and pomni!? On one hand, I want a final fantasy 6 remake, because the game is criminally underrated and the amount of fan content (which is all absolutely fantastic btw) is Not Enough for my neurodivergent, hyperfixating brain.
On the other hand, that would inevitably encourage more people to join the fandom, which would be great, except it seems these days the bigger a fandom gets the more toxic it becomes, and I really like what we have going on over here in our little corner. We all just love the game and its characters and nobody fights about who should and shouldn't date who or who you shouldn't like because they're ~problematique~. Nobody's trying to make one ship morally better than another, nobody's calling anyone names or threatening to doxx people who don't agree with their opinions. It's so peaceful and I love that for us. We're just vibing. Moisturized. Unbothered. In our lane. Flourishing.
#as someone who was in an extremely toxic and chaotic fandom and lowkey still traumatized#to the point where I'm afraid to mention which fandom it was/what my ship was#i have to say#i genuinely love it here#i was nervous at first sharing my ships and headcanons but everyone is so chill i was worried for nothing#thank you to everyone I've interacted with who has made this fandom a healing experience for me#i shudder to think about what some of the people i interacted with in a previous fandom would do with ff6#probably would take edgar's flirting at face value and call him problematic for objectifying women#instead of considering the narrative and what we know about him and the way he actually treats women#my man drinks loving and respecting women juice he's not a creep#or that weird moment with relm that admittedly made me double take before i realized what he meant#theyd have a whole campaign against him lmfao#bc those people boil characters alive until they're just a formless pile of tropes and stereotypes#and seem to disregard all positive aspects of a character they don't like which is fine#but then they go and try to force other people to think like they do and ugh#theres a lot of silly moments in the game and aspects of these characters that make them well rounded and realistically flawed at times#and i fear that would get lost in the chaos if the floodgates opened after a remake#maybe im just jaded lmao#im jaded and i have anxiety so im always thinking about The Worst Case Scenario#the collective positive spirit of the dwellers in this fandom might actually foster a positive space if more people were to come in#ff6#my post#i was gonna say maybe this is bc we're mostly adults#but that falls flat when i remember how some of the most toxic and immature people in some fandoms are grown ass adults#who bully each other and younger fans#and some of the most mature and cool people were actually younger#maybe ff6 fans are just built different lmao#also idk how old anyone else actually is there might be teenagers here i just don't think about it a lot
