HOW TO MEMORIZE MBTI COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS/STACKS

okay, so we're all familiar with the intj, esfj, entp and all those stuff! 16personalities would say that those people are merely "introverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging" and same goes to other mbti types, but when you fall deeper into this mbti thing, you realize that there are cognitive functions!! and now you're crossed with introverted intuition (Ni), extroverted sensing (Se) and all those stuff; sure you're familiar with them now, but you're still stumped on how you'll be able to memorize it!

people often say them memorizing it just "clicks" with them someday. but what if i tell you there's an easier way to memorize it?

i'll now share you an explanation that is easy for me to understand; i hope that it'll be as easy for you as well and you can use this to your advantage!! i'll try to make it succinct as possible with additional visuals for easier understanding! (i'll exclude the explanation of what the E/I, N/S, T/F, and J/P are, since am sure most of y'all are familiar what they stand for)

• dictates whether xxOx is an extrovert or introvert function • J = dictates xxOx is an extrovert function (Oe) • P = dictates xxOx is an introvert function (Oi)

Oxxx (E/I) [Dominant and Auxiliary Function]

• dictates whether which of the two functions (xOOx) are the dominant function and auxiliary function

The Tertiary and Inferior

• follows an alternating stack by reffering to the first 2 cognitive stack • Oi Oe Oi Oe - or - Oe Oi Oe Oi • inferior function is the opposite of dominant function: N-S, F-T; and extrovert-introvert • tertiary function is opposite of auxiliary function: N-S, F-T; and extrovert-introvert

But!!! I'll provide some visuals to better understand it. Let's use ISTP, ESTP, ESTJ, and INFJ as our examples! (beginning of demonstration always starts with a "XXXX") [there's also an image description provided :>>]

Hi. 5w4 here, wanted to talk about the “contradictions” section.

I identify as an INFP in MBTI predominantly, and observe in myself a lot of the behaviors of INTP without relating to the function stack.

When I say that I’m an INFP (or INxP, preferably) I’m mostly talking about the archetype and attempting to communicate a generalization of my personality in four individual letters. The ramifications of “INxP” is that that typing’s function stacks become invalid. But honestly, I think MBTI function stacks are - quite plainly - bullshit due to the general inaccuracy of the theory in its application to each individual human.

When I test my function stacks individually, they do not align with any of the pre-designed stacks of any type, let alone INFP or INTP. Mine also breaks the rules regarding I/E structure. Most people I have met who have done further research into their personal function stacks outside what is prescribed by type have had similar experiences.

MBTI enforces arbitrary rules on which function stacks are permitted, and there appears to be a substantial lack of a sound model to justify them.

Hence, seeing as MBTI is baseline illogical (or more kindly, a semi-useful tool for self-understanding and exploration not meant to be taken in a scientific, technical, and rigid way) I don’t think it’s wise to align MBTI with Enneagram as a quantifier for your Enneatype. They are different tests that measure different things. (Although I do agree that it would be very strange for an extrovert to be an e5.)

The Enneagram focuses on people's motivations, fears, and weak spots, while the MBTI focuses on the way people interact and perceive the world. “Divergent” typing matchups are highly statistically probable.

However, if we were to still combine the two differing typing systems, an INFP could certainly be an e5.

The difference lies in the approach of a 5 vs a 4.

Keeping in mind Fi = “emotional logic, compartmentalizes, internalizes/interprets outside stimulation” Fi ≠ “emotional crybaby, melodramatic, hyper senswitive owo”

An INFP 4 often wraps their aesthetic around the mood it creates, because while colors and shapes (for example) may not affect others substantially, the Fi-user has a noticeable emotional reaction.

As a 5, Fi is utilized to sort experiences, and come up with conclusions about the big picture. Observing one’s emotions and then sorting them in the head. While still having strong emotions, they don’t act as impulsively on them, seeing themselves as a sort of human specimen. They muse why exactly something is, and explore various possibilities.

An INFP 5w4 would think less “I love experiencing emotions because they make me feel free and authentic” (4) and more of “I love(?) experiencing emotions because they give me data points to study myself.” (5)

TL;DR:

- MBTI and Enneagram should not be used to quantify the validity of each other, seeing as they are different tests used to measure different things. It is perfectly valid to have an MBTI type that does not “align” with your Enneagram type.

- MBTI function stacks are bullshit and usually aren’t accurate in regards to the majority of people. You can be an INxP if you struggle to relate to just either F or T and feel more in the middle, as pre-made function stacks aren’t applicable most of the time anyway.

- An INFP e5 most certainly can exist, and is (non-surprisingly) pretty easy to find. Hence, the “contradiction” list is not something that should give you too much pause in deciding your Enneatype.

Enneatype 5 summarised!!

Core type-  Passion: avarice. E5s are cautious and value anonymity with what they share in order to maintain the peace and calmness they worked hard to achieve. They need this space to consume information about the world without having to participate in it. Fixation: stinginess. They have a huge thirst for knowledge, usually this will accompany knowledge on how to strategically control their environment. Trap: observer. The e5s fascination with the world comes from a place of anxiety. They want to know everything about life while refusing to really live it. Defence mechanism: isolation. To avoid emptiness and keep their self image of being knowledgeable, they isolate themselves from any painful or intense emotions. Instead they want to focus on their knowledge in hope to completely remove these thoughts. Virtue: detachment. To relieve themselves from their isolation, they will need to detach from their hiding place, experience the world and let go of the anonymity they so crave.  Key traits: The centrality of thinking, emotional detachment and feelinglessness, fear of engulfment, autonomy and self-sufficiency, hypersensitivity.

Subtypes-  Self preservation [sp]: Sp5s build clear walls around themselves to protect their safe space. They have a strong need for things like boundaries and dislike surprises and intrusions. Once they feel as though these boundaries are crossed, they rely on their safe space to retreat to. They generally strongly value control. Sexual [sx]: Sx5s are often more artistic than the other subtypes. They want to find the perfect partner they can share every part of themselves with. Even the parts they’ve suppressed for a long time. Because of this, they are often disappointed in the people they trusted in to be like this perfect person for them. Social [so]: So5s have this same desire to be able to share their ideas and thoughts with others, but this is much more group focused for them. They want to find people who they share interests with and bring them together. They are more obvious in their search for knowledge, but focus less on truly shutting themselves off.

Contradictions-  ESFJ, ENFJ, ESFP, ENFP, ENTP, ESTP, ESTJ, ENTJ, ISFP, INFP, ISFJ The main contradiction in e5 is extroversion. E5 is a very reclusive type, they tend to observe instead of participate and try. This contradicts with the inherent external involvement of any cognitively extroverted type. The second is partially the feeling dichotomy, this is due to their emotional isolation. The sensation dichotomy is also considered to be debatable due to e5s abstract thought process.  Types you might want to look into if you are on this list are e3, e4, e6, e7 and e9.

Mbti & Astro Observations (5)

They're my personal observations, so take it with a grain of salt.

🪐 Saturn in the 1st house may have an awkward body or the way they lay, sit, stand, walk, etc. is awkward. It's hard for them to relax their body. Their firm body reminds me of a group of soldiers marching in the military.

🦂 Scorpio Moons like to show their expressions as if they're subtly unhinged. You may find their expressions strange and be confused if they're bad or normal by their expressions. But you're attracted to them because anything unknown unconsciously draw people in.

🌑 Pluto influence may make someone have a strong jaw. Or they may look like they hold their anger in like they hold their teeth tightly when someone upset them makes the end of their lips downwards. I think they do feel like that commonly. I associate Pluto with Ni and Fi. I found some dominant Fi users have this feature.

🩷 Venus in the 1st house, Libra Rising or Libra Moon may exhibit strong Fe traits. Libra Moon eyes are average-sized and give a pretty, charming, and gentle look.

🪨 Hard aspects (opposite, square) always talk and act like they attack someone, and someone attacks them. They likely experienced people with the traits belonging to those aspects attacking them in the past. They feel everyone come at them. You think they attack you, but they probably attack their imaginating ghost in the past. They may still be as true as the ones with easy aspects but sound harsher.

okay, everyone! let's start off from this page first thing first.

as you can see he's typed estj 1w2 but let's go further in this:

What are MBTI cognitive functions, if you do feel like talking about it?

Omg thank you for giving me the chance to infodump, even though lol the MBTI fandom on here has been as good as dead for years :3 <3

They're basically mental processes related to your MBTI personality type, and there are eight in total: introverted sensing (short form is Si), extroverted sensing (Se), introverted intuition (Ni), extroverted intuition (Ne), introverted thinking (Ti), extroverted thinking (Te), introverted feeling (Fi) and extroverted feeling (Fe).

Each person has a dominant function, auxiliary function, tertiary function and inferior function. These four will form what's called a "function stack".

A popular analogy for this is the car model: where the dominant function is the car driver, the auxiliary is like a co-pilot, tertiary is a 10-year-old child in the back seat, and the inferior is a toddler in the back seat.

The history behind these functions is Carl Jung, back in 1921, came up with the theory of each person having four functions: one for sensing (related to sensory info), one for intuition, one for thinking, and the last for feeling. Decades later, Isabel Briggs-Myers expanded on said theory so that each of the four just stated above would be split into introverted and extroverted modes: making the number of functions a total of 8.

While it isn't at all a fixed formula, there appear to be tendencies for each of the eight functions to correspond to specific strengths and weaknesses.

E.g. because Se is the most objective function, people with dominant or auxiliary Se seem more likely to see things as they are and better respond in the moment, making them excellent e.g. athletes, paramedics or first responders, or kitchen staff.

Si is often associated with having an excellent memory and easily being able to tell when something has deviated from the norm.

Te is associated with effectiveness and efficiency, streamlining processes of getting tasks done in a system, and empirical measures.

Ti is about refining frameworks of thinking as one goes (people with a strong Ti-Ne combo are apparently excellent at chess).

If you have high Ne, it makes you great at brainstorming and similar processes.

Ni is to do with vision and finding meanings and patterns in things.

Having high Fe means you are likely good at persuasion and ensuring harmony in a group.

Fi is related to very strong personal beliefs and conviction, and being authentic.

Where it gets very interesting for me personally is what happens to these when a person's mental health is affected. Over the years, MBTI forums on the net have come up with "function loops" and "function grips".

A loop is if you lose touch with your auxiliary function, and your first (dominant) and third (tertiary) functions are caught up in a tangle with one another without the auxiliary co-pilot to break them up and get them to exist in harmony. (Here's an ancient Tumblr post listing each loop that each of the 16 types can get caught up in)

For this reason, many people underestimate just how important their auxiliary function is; in fact, some people recommend that you develop it to be just about as mature as your dominant function.

For me, an INTJ, a loop means I enter a Ni-Fi loop and it usually shows up as depression or suicidal ideation.

A grip is if your inferior function flares up because of extreme stress. It usually shows up as a particularly out-of-character mental breakdown, more so than a loop.

I've seen examples of the above, both IRL and in fiction too.

One fictional example is Emily Thorne in "Revenge", who people seem to agree on as being an ISTJ,

experiencing a betrayal trauma so great that it led her to tap into her tertiary and inferior functions, making her unusually ENFP-like as she used creativity and deception to try getting justice for her father being framed for a major crime.

There's an ongoing debate about whether people actually do use all 8 functions, not just 4. This has been tied to other writings by Carl Jung about our "shadow" and how he even created archetypes for parts of said shadow, e.g. "Trickster", "Demon".

So people have discussed stuff like how our inferior function might be the gateway to our repressed shadow side, and how our shadow side could help with personal growth if we understand it better.

Shadow:

5th function, also called the Vulnerable Function or Opposing Role Function

6th, also called the Mobility Function (I think?) or Critical Parent function

7th, also called the Point of Least Resistance/blindspot, or Trickster function

8th, also called the Role/Mask or Demon function

If you take my function stack as an example, my inferior Se is what might lead to my shadow which consists of Ne as the 5th function, Ti as the 6th, Fe as the 7th, and Si at the bottom as the 8th.

From my own personal experiences I think there could be some truth in this. Where it gets handy based on stuff I've read and discussed with enthusiast groups and folks on Reddit is if we follow this theory, my 5th function works best when I am working with someone who uses it more naturally, and my 6th works best and flares up as a burst of willpower under stress (especially when no one else in the room uses that naturally). My 7th is my weakest, and it really reveals what I prioritize because its friction with my 3rd function can in fact strengthen the 3rd function, and my 8th shows up as a mask and was most likely the one that people pressured me the develop the most in my childhood leading up to my 20s.

When I've run the above by some people IRL, asking them whether the same info also applied to their own lives and circumstances, we sort of picked up on a pattern which was really cool honestly. But MBTI is probably always gonna be too "pop psychology" to be taken seriously in the world of journal articles and empirical research.

Hahaha, here's a TOH segment!

I'm gonna talk about Luz and Hunter a little:

I think Luz is an ENFP, while in Hunter's case it's hella difficult to guess under all those layers of complex trauma but...if I do the math by process of elimination, he gives off Ne-blindspot vibes and might be the introverted counterpart of Eda (who gives off massive ESTP vibes), so I'd guess ISTP.

The most interesting thing which may explain how different they are as characters is how their blindspots are the opposite of one another. Which makes their interactions pretty engaging and organic.

Luz's dominant function would be Ne, and her blindspot is Ti. Hunter uses dominant Ti, with an Ne blindspot.

Luz may have slipped into an ENFP Ne-Te loop of anger when Eda is taken away from her towards the end of Season 1, and she may have slipped into an Si grip when she gradually slipped into depression after Hollow Mind.

Hunter being so distressed that he dug his own grave in Eclipse Lake may have been an ISTP Ti-Ni loop, and his Fe grip tendencies seem to show when he's very sensitive that his friends might find out he's a grimwalker, terrified about what they might think and say.

See why I love MBTI? :') When I used to practise as a therapist, I definitely chose it as my main career counselling theory to use with clients, since every student who's training to be a licensed counsellor or psychotherapist here is required to have at least two theories on hand to draw from in their work.

Knowing these functions helps me to read people and the room better, especially as an autistic person.

ATEEZ Wooyoung MBTI Analysis

- ESFP -

An in-depth analysis of an idol's MBTI type. Based on my opinion and observations, may change later. Not an expert.

ESFP (Se - Fi - Te - Ni)

Dom: Se (Extroverted Sensing)

A perceiving function that uses our 5 senses to process the external world.

Wooyoung is always aware of the present moment, quick to react and to take action. He also pays attention to physical things such as aesthetics, the visuals of the performance, the way he looks, etc physical appearances matter a lot to him.

He enjoys photography and videography, which are pretty good activities for Se - it allows him to use his senses to make visually stimulating images and videos. Physically engaging activities seem like the best way to energize him e.g cooking and riding a bike. Cooking is great for his Se as it engages with all his senses - all the movement in cooking, tasting the foods, the aromas, watching the food cook, plating, maybe he enjoys hearing the sounds of food cooking as well and/or the way kitchen tools slightly hit each other (e.g knife on a cutting board).

This moment especially was an incredibly Se dom moment. Comparing it to Si user Jongho (Si has to step back and assess first), being the Se dom he is, Woo just went for it.

Aux: Fi (Introverted Feeling)

A judging function that uses one's own values and belief to compare and make choices

As Fi wants to be authentic, that is what Wooyoung always strives for - he always wants to express himself well, to be real. He wants people to like him for him. He returns the same gesture with others - he wants to know the real version of others. Wooyoung tries not to make assumptions at first meet since he knows he will not learn everything just from one encounter. He seems very empathetic.

Tert: Te (Extroverted Thinking)

A judging function that uses established facts and systems to make objective, working decisions.

He's quite goal oriented and takes time to plan to achieve these goals, even if it's not the most detailed. Either way, he knows how to get what he wants and works hard to reach his achievements.

Wooyoung lays down the rules as well - Te can be by the book, which Wooyoung can be sometimes. E.g when he was explaining how he found it rude when juniors would not put in the effort to correctly bow down to him and other senior artists. Wooyoung has a strong belief in being humble and kind (Fi) and wants to implement this in everyone.

Inf: Ni (Introverted Intuition)

A perceiving function that uses one's own personal insights and ideas

In his episode of "Fill in the Blank" series, Wooyoung said he wanted to use dance to convey deeper messages and emotions for others. He wants to be a sense of comfort, the light in other's darkness. He has always wanted to make an impact on others from a young age, especially considering how much he values relationships.

Both types use Si - Ne, which I do not see in Wooyoung at all...xSFJ's Fe is understandable, but Wooyoung is sometimes a bit too straightforward and honest to be using Fe in his main stack though lol.

Liz Ortecho’s MBTI (or Cognitive Personality Type)

So before we get into this, I’m about to say something that is going to make a lot of people familiar with MBTI have an initial gut reaction of “no”, make them furious or just give them comical floating question marks above their heads. It’s going to challenge the understanding of the personality types that are presented in mainstream quick click through quizzes and yes- even the annoying ones they made you fill out at work to analyze your work style. Because I am not using MBTI as presented by Myers Briggs, instead I am using Cognitive Theory (as far as I understand it without having completed multiple Psychology degrees). This theory is the one Myers Briggs read and re-interpreted and made into the recognizable 16 personality types. It’s also been built off of by many people since her- and my understanding of it is impacted by all of the readings I have done across all of these psychologists and other people’s works on this theory.

Now- let’s clarify a very important feature of why what I’m about to say is gonna make people clench their teeth or call me stupid- the LETTERS IN THE PERSONALITY TYPES DONT MEAN WHAT YOU THINK THEY MEAN (that being that you know of them from Myers Briggs tests). Instead they are a coded formula that informs you of the equation to get the placement of the right cognitive functions. Essentially the E and the I inform one of the dominant loops direction (that being introverted or extroverted) which in turn informs the direction of the other two functions. If none of that makes sense- I apologize, I’m not here to talk about it (lol) but rather say…

Liz Ortecho is an ENFP. However, her unique trauma can on occasion make her present ESTJ and/or ISTJ (now ik some of you are asking “what do those have in common?”- the answer being them and the INFP all share the same four cognitive functions! Just with different preferences).

But we are here to talk about what an ENFP is and why Liz is one.

So the ENFP is of course characterized by their functions which are Extroverted Intuition (Ne) Introverted Feeling (Fi) Extroverted Thinking (Te) and Introverted Sensing (Si). Making their function stack: Ne-Fi-Te-Si. Now this probably looks like a string of letters (I am so sorry- ik what all of this looked like when I was first learning- so I’m sorry, but this is the best I can do). Now for someone who is mostly familiar with Myers Briggs they are probably thinking something along the lines of “why isn’t Liz’s thinking function higher?” to which I can only simply say that it is. It’s higher then it looks (take Max for example, his function stack is Si-Te-Fi-Ne, and yet his thinking function is functionally lower) this is because when using functions the most visible to the outside eye are the dominant direction loop and/or the extroverted loop (the latter being more so easy to see personality characteristics vs overall easy to see- idk if that makes sense). So essentially Liz’s dominant function loop and her extroverted loop is Ne-Te, which makes those functions her primary resources and most easily identifiable characteristics.

Now what do these functions mean? We’ll look at them through loops since that is how they will generally appear (sorry- I sound so dumb talking like this, someone shoot me).

Liz’s dominant function is Extroverted Intuition (Ne), this is her strongest cognitive function and the one all her others will serve (that is to say the other three don’t tend to function as individuals but as ways to inform/validate the dominant function- the exception to this rule is the auxiliary function (her Fi) which we’ll talk about later). Now to define Extroverted Intuition: this function takes in and connects information from the broad external world, it’s a system that focuses on the interconnectedness of systems and can follow these connections using an objective logical framework. This function is characterized by its ability to see and hold multiple possible outcomes, as well as its continuous unconscious connection of seemingly unconnected ideas. Now this doesn’t really say what Ne is, it only really explains how it appears (let’s just say the intuitions are tricky to explain). For Liz this function appears in almost every interaction and scene she is in, it’s her dominant function and her primary way of interacting with the outside world. She is full of possibilities and curiosity. Wanting to understand for the sake of understanding as well as seeing how different possibilities affect the outcome of any scenario. In this lies her love of science, which is a logical framework which allows her to dissect these interconnections and use this function on a daily basis. As well as feeding the curiosity and giving her concrete answers and scenarios. In addition, Ne works to give intuitive guidance to the user, and this cognitive version of it is used to make intuitive ideas about the external/objective world. This can be seen with her “gut” focusing on Max’s lies and the actual physical world around her. Liz is very attune to her intuition and lets it guide her more often than not, it’s her strongest function after all.

Liz’s tertiary function is Extroverted Thinking (Te), which is her logical framework and her second most visible/strong function. This function uses external logic to seek efficiency and organize data. Extroverted Thinking is characterized by its ability to see information as objective and outside of oneself, it aims to deconstruct information and reorder it into the universal system. This function essentially creates its own intellectual formula with in which to understand and interpret the external world. This formula is seen by the creator as the objective truth. Liz used this function to dissect and organize information as she comes across it. It serves her Ne through adding logic and sound reason to her previously seen possibilities. This can be seen when she tells Kyle in 1x03 that “murder investigations have clues. I want a clue… I need a motive… I need to understand what happened that night, before I blow up his life”. She is seeking to prop up and inform her Ne’s gut feeling of Max being involved/lying with evidence, this evidence would support her Ne “hypothesis” and make it concrete instead of a possibility. Furthermore, Liz’s Te is visible in her talking patterns, her endless drive to define and logically order information as it comes through her system (for example, her verbally following Michael’s discussion of biology and tech in 2x01). This function paired with her dominant Ne makes her an amazing scientist and mystery solver, as they pretty subconsciously follow the scientific method. That being creating hypothesis’s and creating logical/objective/recreate-able processes to prove or disprove them.

Liz’s auxiliary function is Introverted Feeling (Fi). This function is defined by an internal/subjective moral framework built from a young age by the internal self. Introverted feeling is a more hidden and in depth version of feeling and processing emotions. It is characterized by being concrete and difficult to adjust, subjective to the point moral/ethical choices are shaped by and shape the understanding of self, and ethics being developed based on personal preference instead of other people’s value systems. Liz’s Introverted Feeling (Fi) primarily serves her Ne, however, since it is the first function of her introverted loop it can sometimes act in and of itself. This function is most visible in Liz’s personality by how she approaches interpersonal relationships and moral dilemmas. Within her relationships Liz relies on her Fi to guide her as well as to process her feelings. She is very much in her own head, feeling things without tangible connections and struggles to put words to those feelings however intense. This is something that can be seen in her struggle to communicate her feelings to Max in 1x04 when he asks how she feels- leaving her to angrily wave her hands and say “I feel this” and motions between them. Liz is guided by a moral and ethical framework built on her own understanding and preferences- allowing her room to fall outside of social expectation. Her Fi is very evident in scenes in which she discusses how her subjective morality will affect her sense of self in the long run. This can be seen in 1x07 when she tells Isobel any future violent actions will be on Liz’s hands for not revealing her, in 1x12 when she reveals she hasn’t been sleeping or eating in an attempt to save Noah because she is afraid what letting him die will make her and again in 3x12 when she tells Heath she is worried about who she is if she prioritizes her people over the good her research could do for the world at large. Now extroverted sensing could make all of these choices given the framework had the same values and interpretations of actions, however, the focus on how Liz’s emotional internal sense of self would shift depicts Introverted Feeling.

Liz’s inferior function is Introverted Sensing (Si). This cognitive function is characterized by the perception of the world through an internal lense, that being checking newly perceived information through a system of knowns. This system is heavily based on memories and past experiences. Introverted Sensing is a conscious recall of information that was “sensed” in the physical world, be it music or trauma. This function not only recalls this information but uses it as a basis of knowledge to draw meaning and connection to the current physical experience. Liz uses this function to help inform or draw connection between the past and the present. Whether it be her bringing up Helena’s car accident to Rosa in 2x02 or their defeat of Noah and Jones to Max in 4x07.

All of which to say Liz’s strongest and most visible functions are her Ne-Te, which creates her logical framework and curious nature. But not far behind that is her Fi, which is her heart, the part of her that strives to be good in everything she does and fight for what she believes in.

made a self-indulgent mbti typing of persona 5 royal characters. i did this by going through different cognitive stacks, and double checking if the corresponding mbti 16 personality types kinda mapped with the actual characters.

so basically, the dominant and auxiliary functions have to be a pairing of the perceiving function and the judging function.

the perceiving function is how the character takes in the world, and the judging function is how the character affects the world.

Nx and Sx are both perceiving functions, Tx and Fx are both judging functions.

furthermore, the introverted and extraverted attribute isnt necessarily about whether the character is an introvert or an extrovert, but rather about the nature of the functions itself.

so if a function is extraverted, it is sourced from the external world. if a function is introverted, it is sourced from the internal world. perceiving and judgmental functions can be sourced from both worlds.

so, these are the interpretations that i have taken about the cognitive functions, that ive treated as the base rules.

alrighty, so i did struggle for some of the characters, so ill just drop explanations for the ones that i feel are maybe controversial:

so this guy is heavily debated, and i think he's the character most left to interpretation, therefore maybe being the hardest to type, but i do think i have a solid argument as to why i think hes an entp. entps are quite rebellious, and the whole point of the game and the protagonist of it is to be rebellious. challenging the status quo, refusing to accept that 'this is how things are meant to be' is how he unlocks his persona. hes the character with the biggest rebellious streak, in the sense that he will always be the contrarian. i mean, his final persona is literally a demon lord, shooting the god of control in his face. cant get more rebellious than that, methinks. furthermore, when the PT kinda lose sight of what they are supposed to stand for before the mementos boss and facing maruki, i feel that its canon that joker refuses to accept what society deems as reality. he is the leader, and he decides that the PT decides its own justice- justice that goes against gods made from the wishes of the masses. when it comes to his personal life, one may argue that he has to be a feeling type, cuz of the many confidants hes got. but i think joker is more of a thinking type- hes definitely not a saviour or saint, he makes deals with his confidants. its a give and take relationship, something that both parties initially agree to, before it becomes something more personal. ive also noticed that his responses that are logical counter arguments as opposed to emotional words of comfort, tend to be the best response. many of his confidants prefer challenging words and different ideas of thought, and i think its safe to assume such words are canon, or atleast a facet of his canon cuz i do like to think his crack responses are canon lol. another thing that i feel is entp behaviour is his competitiveness. this is most expressed with akechi, a character that he has intellectual debates with and games where they keep score of victories. i like to think that in the metaverse and in matters related to the metaverse, he leans more into entp behaviour. but outside, he tends to tone it down, which is why its a bit harder to type, but i do think the entp kinda shines through. i disagree with the theory/idea that joker is the mask akira wears in the metaverse. akira is the mask that joker wears in the real world, and the whole point of the true ending when akira removes his glasses is his acceptance of his true self, his reflection that is joker. this is not to say that he is that one dimensional leader character whatsoever, akira is a really interesting 'silent protagonist' with his many masks. also, his mbti type's weakness being ego-centric might seem pretty harsh but keep in mind that the game's bad endings- him accepting both Yaldabaoth's deal and Maruki's deal is pretty much a consequence of that characteristic.

[TLDR at the end] umm ok being an intp myself, im really surprised by the number of people who have typed her as an intp? hopefully im not wildly incorrect about her being an infp, lmao. but i feel like many people went off by stereotypes to type her as an intp? like the fact that shes very techy and is like a genius hacker, she finds social situations to be quite hard to navigate, her typical intp-ish interests ig are kinda misleading and...dont really have that much to do with her character. i think interests and personality types can be just correlation and not causation. now as to why i think shes an infp, when i looked at the cognitive stacks, i really felt that Fi and Ne fit her. for starters, ill address why i think her judging function is feeling and not thinking. this is simply because of why she decided most of her actions in the game. her starting medjed, her isolating herself after her mother's suicide, her becoming a phantom thief. infact, ill compare it with the actions of another character whose judging function is thinking, with similar circumstances: akechi goro. both characters are prodigies in their own fields - goro being a supernatural assassin at 14, and futaba being the founder of medjed when she was around the same age. both choosing their respective paths for enacting justice. they are both characters who have suffered to being blamed for their mother's deaths, and from child abuse. however, when their methods of personal justice compromised moral values, they reacted very differently. goro chose to sacrifice his morals, while futaba stopped associating herself with the international hacking group she had founded when it strayed from her morals. the difference is in what motivates both characters' decisions. goro chooses to sacrifice his morals of what is good and what is bad, justifies his alarming bad moral choices by his logic that it has to be done to entrust his position as shido's loyal hitman. meanwhile futaba is scared, paranoid and drives herself into suicidal guilt that she an unforgivable person. she is so distraught by the notion that she is an awful person, and condemns herself to lie in a tomb of her own making. a lot of other of futaba's dialogues and actions also just make sense to be of a feeling type. she tries to express her emotions and be empathetic of others. her social awkwardness does not come from intrinsic values, but rather the fact that she is unused to social situations due to abuse. she genuinely enjoys hanging out with her friends, and seeks them actively. TLDR basically, when we consider Tx vs Fx, i think she is less likely to go along with a decision if she doesnt feel right about it, even if its logically correct.

for ann, i dont think her being an enfp would be wildly incorrect, i just want to explain the reasoning behind her weaknesses. unfocused, disorganized, restless, all come from the rather callous and laid-back attitude she initially has towards modelling. not wanting to be an expert in a hobby is perfectly fine, but ann herself seems to be unsatisfied with her own attitude towards modelling after interacting with mika.

Okay so I’ve looked into cognitive functions (specifically jungian typology and socionics) and I think I might know why I don’t exactly fit into the mbti type.

Here’s what I found based on some personal observations/investigations and tests of it:

dom: Ti

aux: Ni

tert: Si

inf: Fi

So basically, all of my functions have an introverted attitude which is kinda insane. This makes it practically impossible to match my cognitive functions to any standard mbti (compared to the typical extroverted aux and inf) or any standard socionics types.

In socionics, the most roughly corresponding one was is ILI (Ni-Ti-Se-Fe) - which is loosely equivalent to INTJ in mbti. Other close ones were LII (INTP, Ti-Ne-Si-Fe), SLI(ISTP, Ti-Se-Ni-Fe), LSI(ISTJ, Si-Te-Fi-Ne). But none of these actually match my exact cognitive stack.

I don’t know if something went wrong during my study or I was misguided because usually, it’s theoretically possible to have all introverted attitudes it is also extremely rare. Jungian psychology and MBTI assume that people need a balance between interacting with the external world (extraversion) and processing their internal world (introversion) so having only one attitude disrupts this balance - this means I’m very cognitively imbalanced and atypical from a jungian point of view (which is true to be fair, from my neurological context).

What are your thoughts on this?

In general, I don't recommend studying two different models at the same time, as you'll likely be tempted to find exact correspondences between them. You can't, because the models are constructed differently. It's similar to learning two languages at once, even if they share the same roots; each has evolved differently, and mixing them could lead to confusion with the specific features of each.

From your questions, I assume you're new to MBTI. So, I suggest setting socionics aside for now and studying it only after you’ve mastered MBTI on its own. Once you’re comfortable with MBTI, you’ll be better able to make proper distinctions between the two. Remember that while these models can complement each other, they aren't directly comparable or designed to offer exact type translations. For example, the INTJ in the MBTI isn't exactly the INTj in socionics, and vice versa.

That being said. Regarding your results, I think it's safe to lean toward an introverted type. When you take a test, you may not be entirely objective and might focus on specific moments in your life rather than looking at the bigger picture. This means you could, consciously or not, select memorable instances you went through, instead of reflecting on your general way of functioning over your whole life. That's why asking people who know you well can be more helpful than relying solely on self-assessment.

In conclusion: I advise you to read each MBTI type carefully and proceed by elimination. Rule out those that you are sure do not match you. When you have the remaining profiles: use cognitive functions to find your two dominants.
