Remus hadn’t been home for a long time, and never with Sirius. He had missed muggle Ireland—nowhere else in the world filled his heart and soul in the same way. Even Sirius with his easy smiles, warm heart and boisterous laughs couldn't quite manage to fill this particular void.

This started out as a story to wax poetic about Remus with a red beard, and turned into a meditation on the meaning of home, and what it means to long for a place that lives in your bones. Enter: Irish Remus.

Title translates from Irish to "In our hearts forever". It's also a Fontaines DC song.

The pin was tricolor: green, white, orange. The Irish flag, he thought, and it read “Support Irish Unification 2023” in a loud, all caps font. 

The pin itself wasn’t particularly out of the ordinary, at least, not for Sirius. He’d spent the morning helping Marlene hand them out for St. Patrick’s Day, and had thus been seeing them for days. He himself had six floating around his clothes: two on his pants, one on his shirt, and three more on his backpack. 

No, what drew Sirius’ attention was the boy it was attached to. Stuck into the collar of an oversized gray sweater, the pin sat directly under the face of the most beautiful man Sirius had ever seen. Tan skin, tawny curls, tall - and that was just what Sirius could see from the back. 

At first, he didn’t plan on saying anything. The boy was probably straight, for all Sirius knew. But then he caught sight of another pin stuck into one of his backpack straps - half green to white to blue, the other half a rainbow, and Sirius figured, what did he have to lose?

Quietly, one eye on the door for when Professor Sprout walked in, Sirius nudged the boy in the leg. “Hey,” he started. “I like your pins.” Getting the words out was a struggle. 

The boy turned, revealing amber eyes so deep, Sirius would have no trouble getting lost in them. “Thanks,” he responded, a knowing look in his eyes. 

Sirius put his hand out. “I’m Sirius.”

The boy took his hand. “Remus.”
