Instead of doing a solid background and print links, I decided to reverse it and do the print as the background and let the accent colour pop as the links.

I have decided to go with an Irish chain design to frame the bat blocks. I will need to make some sashing to between them. Plus I need to decide if I want to keep the last four blocks (the ones that in a previous mock up orange) blank. I am leaning to keeping them blank instead of doing four more in a different colour. As I don't have enough of the black on black print to make three more.

On that note. The extra bat block is going to be made into a coordinating pillow.

I got my Halloween fabric in! So happy that it arrived and now I can start working on my Bat quilt. I am using the free Bats and Boos pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop. Just without the cornerstone of the block as I am expanding the quilt pattern to make it larger. So they don't line up in the corners as nicely. As can be seen in the wip block layout in its current incarnation.

I am thinking of seeing if I have just enough to make one or two more bat blocks. As that will alter what I could do for the grid layout.

Got the squares all trimmed up. Started cutting up the sashing for between them to continue the Irish chain design. The empty spots in the rows that start Irish chain blocks are going to be left as white squares. Decided that leaving them white will look better instead of using a contrasting coloured bat or a different design.

I am still deciding on if I want to add an additional border all around it to make it wider. That would mean I would need to do some quilt math of how much to buy. As I do need a bit more fabric to make those four 10" white squares also. Which if I do add the border it would be a good idea to get it at the same time in one go.

hi! great ask, since it might be a bit of a confusing name. it is irish and is supposed to be pronounced "koo-kull-in", the u in kull like in dull. hope that helps!
