And yes, Durge is so narratively appealing to me because all what's going on on a Big Scale is literally Your Personal Fault.

The consequences of your own actions. The evil undead general? You WORKED with him.

The lunatic murderer? She is an annoying little sister who stabbed you.

The tyrant closing black fist over the Baldur's Gate? Your Buddy. You were his FAVORITE.

It's not just some random "evil force takes the wheel and you need to save the world."

I mean, it is, but YOU are the part of this evil force. Everything bad happening around can be easily traced back to you and your evil plan. It's YOUR evil plan (and Gortash's, but you were A TEAM of evildoers, equally into it).

You were SO GODAWFUL the tyrant choking Baldurs Gate sees you and lights up like a candle.

Of course it's narratively pleasing, the entire Dark Urge playthrough is just "and if these are not consequences of my own actions" and it's AMAZING.

You know that fantasy a lot of us have had about wishing we could live in a video game? Affini that gives you class H's and sticks you in a VR pod so that you can have that experience. The sessions range anywhere from hours, to entire days in order to let you get immersed properly. Sometimes she even goes on adventures alongside you!

More often, though, she turns herself into one of the bosses from the game, and when you inevitably make a mistake and lose, instead of the usual game-over sequence, your character just falls over and is wrapped up in her vines. And after that, well... Suffice to say that when you do finally return to the last checkpoint, it won't be with all your stats fully replenished; not the willpower one, at least.

Marzenie Fun facts time!

So Marze has Moth wings, this is not new information but for reference here’s the image anyway

The fun fact is actually that Marze’s wings are completely useless, they don’t work

This is for two reasons- reason one is that they’re a little too small, insect wings have a lot more size leeway then feathered wings too but even still the ones I gave Marze are several sizes too small to carry him

reason two is the cold, as discussed Marzenie is incredibly cold and that doesn’t pair well with fragile insect wings so prone to cracking- he has to keep them under a cape at all times just to make sure he doesn’t loose them entirely, even if they don’t do anything for him

He’s still adverse to the idea of loosing part of himself

Anyway! By all other merits Marze is a deer-saytr (traditionally a goat I believe but in most cases it’s still used with other hoofed animals) this isn’t super significant to his symbolism I mean, the deer part is but me referring to him as a saytr isn’t- it was just the most convenient way to make him part deer (I was NOT about to learn honest to god deer anatomy for him to a deer-tar)
