[cough cough … so in case this is your first time seeing me posting about Marzenie, the general idea is that it’s an omori au that shows things from Basil’s perspective- giving him his own inner world and a deeper look into what he’s actually going through, given omori is from Sunny’s perspective we don’t really get the most in depth idea of how things are in Basils own mind other then the vague idea that it’s really bad— Marzenie is an AU that hopes to elaborate on Basils character and inner struggle in ways that Omori does not. And yes that means sending him on a fantasy adventure in his own mind but like- when I say fantasy I mean In the same way as a game like Fear and Hunger is “fantasy”]

Marze, a name he went by, was walking as he normally does in the cold forest.

(in between where the shadow meets the light) The feeling of being stared at. Normal, everything about this experience is normal; but it.....

Ah? Oh. An Edelweiss,

... Quietly blooming, I watch lest it disappears. They always bloom on these parts of the forest (maybe it's more of a mountain, now? It seems that he's getting closer to a mountain moreso). They look.. pretty. They feel.. comforting. They look like stars!

Hear the magic, old as time, whisper in my ear: ... It doesn't really take him long, he's known this place for a while (maybe since he was 5? 7 moreso), so he knows his ways around the forest and mountain paths— well, not really. The mountain.. is.... Somewhat new. The Edelweiss flowers too. Those are new. But- they feel, again, comforting. Like it was meant to be?

Singing? Humming. It's humming.

Who's humming?

The same paintings, the same stained glasses, the same paragraphs detailing the appearance of such a God.

The books, the altars, the notes, the paragraphs- the worshippers words and everything...

I should've known he would've sounded like a beautiful violin. A harp even! And not return. I look down, to my hands— I sometimes pick up flowers; the Edelweisses grow back. I know so, they always grow back so fast in these parts; I hope that they continue to grow just like that.

In the time that I have left, Shit.

Did he notice me? .. he looks like.. is he just waking up? His eyes have that look to it. But he doesn't open them— “If he ever opens his eyes, a fire happens. We already saw it happen. We don't want it again.”; is what I remember now.

what can I do? He looks at me, it feels lighter? Better... Is he asking a question? He doesn't seem to be speaking to me. Maybe he isn't asking me a question? But.. he earns, no- he deserves an answer. I should give him an answer;

All I want is to forget, and be with you. Is what is written on the petal I had ripped of the Eldiweiss I had in my hand. That's what he wants, right? It's answer. I gave him an answer. I hope.. he's happy with it.

Live for all that is real, everything that I feel— he gives it back to me, replacing the 'I' as 'you'— me?. With a smile (enough to burn my fears away, the bugs and eggs away for getting too deep and too much).

He reaches out to hold.. my hand?

This wish of mine, one day will shine and : conjure life.

I let him. Of course I would.

so here’s a slightly better rundown of my little Basil-POV AU

MARZENIE as opposed to HEADSAPCE

Headspace is … at least mostly a VOLUNTARY experience that Sunny is pretty chill about, headspace is an escape, a paradise

Marzenie on the other hand is completely involuntary, Basil doesn’t want to be there but he ends up there anyway, this is largely a guilt complex- Marzenie is bad because Basil thinks he deserves that, to be trapped in a world of torment is only his punishment, the only way to make up for what he did, Marzenie isn’t really ‘designed’ either, headspace has had multiple iterations and has had to replace characters when things go wrong, Marzenie on the other hand has been a developing constant for Basil since about a year after the incident, a place that gradually evolved as his mental state became worse and worse, but when I say it’s not ‘designed’ I mean to imply that Sunny (or omori?) very intentionally crafted their idea of who the characters should BE in headspace, Marzenie characters are based upon Basil’s unconscious views on people. If you’re a monster in marzenie that’s not his fault, he didn’t do that on purpose

YAYYYYY HERE HE IS!!!!! THE BEAUTIFUL SUN GOD HIMSELF!!!!!! this is @dannybobany's character from their omori au, Marzenie!!! its a super cool au and if you've yet to check it out you totally should!!!

i had lots of fun drawing him, i tried to make his as pretty and perfect as possible efowouefwiefjw - i might've gotten some of the clothing details a little mixed up since i could only zoom in so much but i did indeed try my best!!!

also i think the wood grain on his face was such a cook detail, but i thoguht it might look a little strange in my style so i just kinda did more swirly blush as an alternativeee

the moment you’ve all been waiting for

Or as I’ve been calling her up until now- Rat Mari! Now to tell you the truth Rat Mari/Ziemia took me AGES to properly figure out and when I was first getting started with Marzenie I had no idea what to do about Mari- then I had the rot metaphor idea and decided “rats in the shape of a person is pretty horrible I could do that!”… thus, Mari shaped rat pile and some wooden limbs in there too for vague symbolism reasons? Which. What I mean by that is that I’m drawing a similarity between her and Sol

The whole thing with Sol is the idea of perfection, a person is not capable of perfection and so he must be a doll, must be wood and light and no more- Mari was once perfect too, but her idea is tainted and gone and all that remains is rot. Do you see what I’m saying here? I’m not sure honestly I’ve been brainfogged as hell lately and started this drawing two days ago only to finish it NOW, and to be totally honest the design isn’t everything I wanted from it… but it dawned on me sometime lately that what I do want would be very tedious to draw

I cannot physically draw enough rats for me to be happy with so I compromised with not that many rats- and they aren’t very good rats either I’m not that great with animals … anyhow! Why Ziemia? Well. I think I’ve brought it up before but the in-world explanation for this character is that she was once a nature goddess, like how Sol is a god of the sun- but she was tainted by something terrible and consumed by pests, so Ziemia (in my rudimentary understanding of the polish language thanks to imperfect software because I don’t actually know polish and am doing my best to choose correct translations) is a word that means Earth. There were alternate translations and other words I could’ve used, but I picked Ziemia because it’s 1: a relatively simple word that matches the other ones I’ve used and 2: sounds enough like a name that I find it easy to call a character that and 3: is relatively easy to pronounce for … what I imagine to be my mostly English speaking audience? What five of you there are- other then @/birdzman ! Who I think might actually be polish? Not sure but shout out to you if you’re reading this!! Not fully sure if I’m right but if so then uhhh I apologize for being a dumb little American because I doubt I’m doing these translations right, anyhow!

Rat Mari/Ziemia isn’t just accociated with rats, I also want her to have themes of decay and other scavenger animals such as maggots or worms, the focus on rats is to do with Marzenie’s setting, I guess the idea is that Rats invade homes in winter to survive, whereas bugs mostly die off in winter regardless of available human homes to inhabit, so rats are one of the only pest animals which persist through the snow, which is why they might appear in some places outside Ziemia’s tree area, whilst other associated creatures would be unique to that area

Last but not least of my statements on this character, Ziemia does not represent the grief of Mari’s death, but rather the tangible brutality of it, how death feels in the eyes of a child, the inherent horror of a corpse, of knowing a person was once alive is no longer so, the horror of feeling their body stiff and cold in your arms, arms that once held you … this is what the rot theme comes from, one of Basil’s frequent hallucinations is of her body, decaying on the rope, decaying where he left her.

IM REALLY INTERESTED SO FAR BUT im still very confused

HOLY SHIT THIS IS MY FAVORITE QUESTION THANK YOU FOR ASKING

Marzenie is my omori au In which the games events occur from Basil’s perspective rather then Sunny’s, which includes giving Basil his own “headspace”, that’s what “Marzenie” is (Marzenie being the polish word for dream)

Marzenie is yes, a space that exists in Basil’s dreams, but that’s about all it has in common with headspace- Basil’s views on the world and his fears influence Marzenie to be far bleaker and more violent then Headspace

Here’s a Map I made to help visualize things I’m talking about-

Marzenie is a frosted over wasteland, everything in it is based upon the very worst of Basil’s thoughts— unlike Sunny he doesn’t really repress his trauma’s, they burden him actively and in some cases voluntarily—  Basil, considering himself responsible for everything tears happened to his friends, allows this hell to exist in his mind as the punishment he believes he deserves

that’s not to say Basil controls Marzenie, it’s almost entirely subconscious, just that Basil allows Marzenie too exist and doesn’t try to improve his thinking

Additionally, like headspace, Marzenie has a persona character for Basil and a Stranger for Sunny

Basil’s persona is Marze, but don’t get me wrong, Marze is not like Omori- while Omori is somewhat of an individual and separate character, Marze is no more then a costume and possesses no consciousness or autonomy separate from Basil- Marze is just a costume that Basil is wearing in these dreams of Marzenie

As for Basil’s Stranger, his name is Sol, within Marzenie itself Sol is a god, the very embodiment of the sun- but separated from his character, metaphorically Sol is Basil’s idealization’s of Sunny and the role Sol plays in Marzenie’s story is a parallel to how Basil has felt without Sunny, like a world without its sun

There are other things in Marzenie that I could absolutely ramble about but I’ll only go on like this if you actually want to know- but that’s rhe rundown!

Marzenie Fun facts time!

So Marze has Moth wings, this is not new information but for reference here’s the image anyway

The fun fact is actually that Marze’s wings are completely useless, they don’t work

This is for two reasons- reason one is that they’re a little too small, insect wings have a lot more size leeway then feathered wings too but even still the ones I gave Marze are several sizes too small to carry him

reason two is the cold, as discussed Marzenie is incredibly cold and that doesn’t pair well with fragile insect wings so prone to cracking- he has to keep them under a cape at all times just to make sure he doesn’t loose them entirely, even if they don’t do anything for him

He’s still adverse to the idea of loosing part of himself

Anyway! By all other merits Marze is a deer-saytr (traditionally a goat I believe but in most cases it’s still used with other hoofed animals) this isn’t super significant to his symbolism I mean, the deer part is but me referring to him as a saytr isn’t- it was just the most convenient way to make him part deer (I was NOT about to learn honest to god deer anatomy for him to a deer-tar)

I used the folk dress from Krakow, Poland as the primary reference, since the au has some references to Polish. I'm so proud of this one.I'm sorry if it seems a bit rushed; it's because I got this idea just recentlyy. :)

I actually had to do some research, which was surprising since I live pretty close to Krakow, I was also tempted to add a flower crown, but I'm way too lazyy.

Good god it’s been awhile, but at last my dearest Omori Marzenie returns !!

after all these years I finally drew alter boy!! Gosh, that leaves only the as of now unnamed Aubrey monster for the main four-

Design detail ramble ⬇️

Okay okay, flower meaning time guys

So Kel had me a little confused at first since ‘cactus’ is incredibly vague, Basil never specifies what type of cactus he’s talking about but it was surprisingly easy to find the right match-

This is the adorably named strawberry hedgehog cactus, representing resilience and the ability to thrive in harsh conditions- a perfect match to its omori counterpart and most likely the type of cactus Basil would’ve initially been talking about when explaining its meaning, it’s also a good visual match by its signature pink flowers

But that’s just canon, what about those flowers on his sleeves? Well this is where I got a bit silly because those there are anemones, which can mean a lot of things but in this case represent abandonment, which is relevant to what alter boy himself is representing in Marzenie

Kel and Basil have a very awkward relationship, Kel is kind of trying really hard to ignore Basil in the nicest way he can- he isn’t really meaning to do this, he just… doesn’t know what to DO with Basil, Basil won’t laugh at his jokes aside from the occasional very obviously forced chuckle, Basil can’t hold a conversation with him anymore, they just stand there making awkward chitchat smiling at each other in an increasingly uncomfortable manner

So when they do talk, which is rarely, it largely consists of Kel going on for a few minutes about things that have happened to him recently… which are usually accomplishments, which make Basil feel like shit in comparison-

Thus, alter boy, he’s like a less pronounced reflection- there’s still that element of shame where Basil feels worse about himself because of how he views Kel, but there’s something else too… a little bit of mockery, obviously Kel has never done that, but to Basil, being bombarded by stories of all his friends accomplishments, how much better his life is when Basil is barely in it? It hits him like an insult, like mockery

Which leaves alterboy as this… passively antagonistic character, whenever spoken too he only tells Marze how futile everything he’s doing is and saying out loud every harsh truth about the situation, throwing it all in Marze’s face for him to dwell on

This is one of those times where Basil is taking things as being far worse the they are, not that he can help it, but that’s what’s happening

Omori Marzenie update (aka, omori from basils perspective au)

So I started work on a map for basils mind, I’m hesitant to call it a headspace because that’s not really what it is? I remember comparing Basil’s mind to decoupage and the more I think about it the more I feel that’s the only real descriptor for what’s going on in there … despite this I’ve decided to get at least 1% more whimsical then I was originally intended for the sake of creation, it’ll be funner for me this way basically

Take a look at the map of Sunny’s headspace

It’s kinda shaped like a heart right? Or at least the mainland is

I’m taking the heart idea and running with it by designing Basil’s to look like an anatomical heart rather then a cartoon one (because his mind isn’t so deluded by fantasy like Sunny’s is, but that’s not to say Basil sees things literally, far from it no no Basil’s reality is presented to him typically more morbid and gruesome then it actually is… thus, the representation of an anatomical heart, does this make sense?)

The primary area is snowy forest with a church in its center (Sunny’s journey ends in a church, Basil’s journey begins in a church)

The church is Basil’s playground in a sense… since I’m picturing his “game” as a side scroller rather then a top-down it’d have him walking behind the pews, unable to see the faces of the people sitting in them

Whenever Basil interacts with someone in real life they appear sitting in the church, when interacted with they’d repeat whatever Basil assumes they think about him or something about the conversation they’d had with him and Basils perception of how it went (Basically a representation of Basil severely overthinking every single little interaction he has with anyone)

People Basil interacts with often are almost always in the church, so often in fact they’ve been incorporated into it, Polly is a Nun, Kel is an alter boy (despite being standing rather then sitting in pews these characters remain faced away from Basil), in the back of the church there is a stained glass window depicting Sunny (even if he’s not really here he’s always at the back of Basils mind)

That’s about all for now, just some scattered thoughts on this au and what I’m doing with it, further updates soon
