There are many reasons my interests are more geared towards mediaeval Scotland than mediaeval England, but at least one of them has to be the fact that I am completely incapable of Being Normal about the Lion in Winter and Shakespeare's second tetralogy.
#Like I simply could not remain unbiased#Not in a 'taking sides' kind of way but more in a 'the real Henry II did not entirely resemble this fictional adaptation'#I refuse to accept it and I don't really want to#I could try very hard to research and write about Henry II sensibly- and I often do when he (or Hotspur later on) impinge on Scottish histo#But fundamentally my image of Henry II is the image of the character from the Lion in Winter#It's horrible to have to admit I'm like one of those unhinged Braveheart or Philippa Gregory people but for twelfth century England#Although with all due respect the Lion in Winter and Henry IV Part 1 are obviously twenty times better than Braveheart#There are other reasons#I kind of feel England has enough people interested in it already#I like to dip in occasionally and it's interesting to read about (and often necessary from a Scottish perspective)#But yeah for many reasons mediaeval England- though fascinating- is not my number one priority#One of the pretty big reasons is though my unfortunate fan behaviour the minute Richard II sits himself down on the ground#To tell sad stories of the death of kings#And you know what that's valid and probably acts as a useful research tool for many people#Just not for me#It's weird though because other than Shakespeare and the Lion in Winter there aren't many period dramas I particularly care for#Not only am I incredibly picky about my historical media when it comes to the Middle Ages (less so for the 20th century)#But I never really understood why people assume when you say 'I like history' you mean 'I like period dramas'#To me these are two separate unrelated activities/hobbies#Not necessarily better than each other just different

i think everyone should have That One Fanfic that they've read so many times over that they've memorized the words to heart and they think deeply of it even if it is not great or is very dated. for me it would be this gravity falls fanfic from like 2015-2016 that i read not too long after it finished and connected with it so deeply that i ended up rereading it so often i straight up could recite it by heart (it was 100k+ words). its not my favorite gravity falls fanfic let alone my favorite fanfic in general and it uses a lot of tropes specific to that fandom that i dislike but god if my soul is not still intertwined with it 7 years later. it's been a couple years i should reread it again
#chirp chirp!#gravity falls#i think part of it was how deeply dipper's bisexuality in that was connected to the entire story. like i didn't know i was bi at the time#but it still resonated incredibly strongly w me......#also another part of it was just how iconic so many scenes in it were that made it easy to memorize the whole thing#the opening hook. the bird killing. the first murder. that murder getting on the news.#the morning after the massacre. the aftermath of the summoning ritual. the pitchforks. the showdown with gideon.#ford shooting his own grand nephew and not even being allowed to bury his body. the tragedy of it all.#also dipper was deeply iconic for misinterpreting that one line and confessing to being a cannibal and getting judged by ford for it.#i sound incredibly unhinged reciting all of this out of context but frankly yes it is that unhinged. 8/10 rewired my brain chemistry

LOVED the gortash/haarlep story, im so intrigued with how it continues!! You write both of them so well and in character even though Gortash is still different than what he is in canon because he's just young, it really does feel like that'd be what he was like back then!
Ahhh thank you anon! Man it’s so hard writing people when they’re younger isn’t it, trying to balance who they are with what they might have been when they were in a more awkward, unsure space. Like I am so serious, the entertainment industry makes it SO hard to keep loving creativity and performing because there's so much other fucking bullshit, so to see people who still keep going in the face of that because they want to, because art is that important to them, to see people who beat those odds when the atmosphere is trying so hard to fuck them up is genuinely, unironically inspiring, I AM HAVING A DAY™
