I just rewatched their reunion scene in 3x05, and it absolutely kills me how the first thing Margo asks Sergei the minute they are alone in her office is just "Are you OK?" Because, what even is that question in those circumstances, how does it begin to capture everything, he's obviously not OK physically speaking, all of that -- and yet I'm pretty sure that's what Margo asks because it's the most basic form of the question that's been haunting her for more than two years. Just, "Is Sergei OK?" In spite of the betrayal, in spite of everything. And he -- again, very clearly not actually OK -- just seems a little bemused and pretty overwhelmed and he answers her, "OK? Yes."

These two, they love each other so much and they break my heart in so many ways.

Here is a teaser from my first '5 times' fic!

Margo Madison woke up in her office. This was not unexpected – after all, Margo did sleep in her office, enjoying the ease of being close to Mission Control should something go wrong. Most of her clothes were dry-clean only and there was a shower in the back. But that morning, Margo didn’t wake on the familiar pull-out, bleary-eyed as she adjusted to the shrill noise of her alarm clock, springs digging into the small of her back. She was on the couch, sure, but still in her clothes from the night before. Blinking awake, Margo reached over for the side table for her glasses. It was then that she noted the time was a good half hour before her alarm. It was then that she noted that she was not alone in her office.

Bolting up-right, Margo took in the figure slumbering in the arm chair opposite her. Sergei Nikulov’s blond head was laid against the back of the chair, casual sport’s jacket draped over his torso. His chest fell and rose pleasantly, as if he was having enjoyable dreams of schematics and procedures. Staring at him in the thin light coming through her curtains, his face rendered soft, Margo allowed herself to enjoy her attraction to the Soviet engineer. At first, he’d been an ass. But sometime between 11:59 and teaching Aleida all the components of the Soyuz capsule in Russian, Margo had found him attractive. The revelation, after an off-hand comment about how his wife would feel about him spending the night with another woman, that he was, in fact, separated, sealed the deal.

The first time she’d been attracted to anyone since the 70s and it was a Soviet engineer. God.

In the arm chair, Sergei stirred. Margo watched, knowing it would be the only time she would be allowed such an intimacy. He rolled his shoulders; the grip on his jacket falling slack. Then he blinked himself awake, a line forming across his brow in confusion at the alien surroundings, before his gaze settled upon her. And he smiled. “Margo.”
