Both Mal and reader hear the other's voice in their head, like a telepathic link ever since they were children. Then when the VK's come to Auradon, Mal hears her soulmate's voice, only to turn round and see Audrey's brother. Mal is very much in denial because it can't be him, not with the history between their families. But deep down Mal knows that she's screwed, as reader's voice was a comfort for her on the Isle, and that he has become quick friends with Evie, Jay and Carlos. Thanks.
