I want you guys' opinion on something.

I've talked about it a few times how divination has its weird downfall and it's that you KNOW things that others don't (that can be weird if you think about it, especially if it involves other people).

So from time to time I'm stumbling across a story that someone had a tarot reading YEARSS ago (or even decades, I saw that) and the reader told them a lot of things that were very specific and detailed.

Now let's say someone predicted your future partner with details so that when you meet this person and that person perfectly fits the desription, you JUST KNOW.

And let's say it's not an easy situation where you meet and you're both single and get together and it's cool. Let's say there's some proper obstacles… but you know, in your head you're like "sooner or later we'll get together".

What do you do? Would you feel weird? Would you hold on to hope or would you withdraw because it's weird? Would you just kind of sit and observe and go with the flow? Or would you act on it and try to "help" the fate do its thing?

I understand things have been dry in Outlander land but even desert dry has me smh. Ladies, if you have to try that hard to shit all over SH, I’m not saying it makes you a hater but it sure as shit doesn’t make you a liker.

Back after a bit- admit it, we all need to occasionally take a break- I feel I needed to pace myself during the drought. But after a bit of scrolling, I felt compelled to dive right in. Isn’t this fandom about fun, entertainment and guilty pleasure? That’s why I’m here. So why the endless posts from the SH haters? Do people dislike SH, enjoy the snark or just think the man is stupid?

So just for fun (or insomnia) I thought I would play a short game of SH: Stupid, Smart or just SMH?

1. SH and Cons/Private events for $

Why do people have such a problem with SH trying to make a living? Most if not all actors part of a series or movie franchise participate. In my opinion SH is doing it now, so he won’t need to in his 60’s to pay the rent. While most fans are priced out of the more exclusive events, all I can say is the paying fans are the only ones that never complain. Supply and demand. If any charitable component is part of the deal, great. So can we finally put a line under this?

Verdict: Smart as hell

2. SH always “Shilling” SS to his Fans and on SM

Uhm, he is the brand. It’s his company. Can it be a bit much? Yes. Promotion to the fan base and the use of sm is marketing 101. In order for people to try the product they need to know about the product. We can disagree as to his methods or success to date, but fans are not the only ones buying bottles. As for the constant and consistent presence of AN with SH during events? Suddenly they are a couple? WTF. AN is a business partner. He owns part of the business. They both work hard promoting SS, and so far it looks like they will continue to release more SS. Ladies, don’t put your lawn chairs away yet!😉

Verdict: Smart

3. SH and boundaries with his fans

Regardless of the letter you attach to SH, he is a recognized actor around the world. Definitely a people pleaser, in imho, he will happily take a selfie with anyone. Obviously, he never wants to disappoint any fan, but his lack of boundaries and security at events can be cringe worthy at times. If a female actor was touched, mauled, or asked to sign fans boobs or t-shirts it would be a #me too moment. Someone, anyone in security or a handler needs to be bad cop if he won’t. How far is too far?

Verdict: Stupid with a side of SMH

4. SH as a Philanthropist and Charitable Causes

This one really bugs me. MPC has raised over $6m for charity. SH’s name attached to any cause raises awareness and $. The BS from the haters who discount this based on the fact SH apparently never donates his own money is petty nonsense. Gentleman’s ride is one example. Agree it was his female fans that made it happen. And? This is my only fandom but SH is held to an impossible standard. Apparently he is a hypocrite in his support for clean oceans because someone on his team had a catered lunch using single use plastics. Great topic for discussion, but the man didn’t throw the containers in the ocean. Also let’s not judge a person’s commitment based on sm posts. SH can literally, yes ladies literally never win. Thankfully the causes he supports do. I dare you to disagree.

5A. SH’s dating life

According to an extremely ardent part of this fandom, SH has dated😉 every fit blonde 👱‍♀️ within a 250 mile radius of everywhere. I wish that someone would keep track of all the mysterious initials and lack of any literal proof of these women. This is where I separate the snark from the hater’s. While I’m in owe of the investigative skills of some, and enjoy the gossip-even though mom thought gossip was a sin, sorry mom- not all women aka initials welcome the attention. Any woman save CB that SH is remotely warranted or not attached to, has an avalanche of hate comments and 💩emoji in their future, welcome or not. Personally, I believe SH, goes out of his way to protect the people he cares about, and perhaps even those he may not. I think we can agree he is not a monk. However an actor is entitled to privacy. Ginger Jesus included.

5B. SH ‘s Sexuality

From the beginning, 3 years for me, I’ve read posts about someone who knew a friend of a friend of a bartender’s friend who knew for a fact SH had a boyfriend. WTF. You know the drought is real when this bullshit gets recycled. We all know the question has been asked and answered by SH. More than once. Next.

Verdict: SH keeping his private life private: Smart as hell.

6. SH and the use of all things Outlander related

If you don’t get it, I don’t have the time and am too lazy to explain it to you.

7. SH and CB

The only real problem here is obvious. And I don’t know why the fans or even the haters- btw, I use the term haters like I do profanity- perhaps not the best word, but like GFY, FU, MF, C, etc. I’m lazy and it saves time and no confusion to whom I address. So where the actual f&ck is the audition tape we all want to see? You know the part of which I speak. If only the fandom investigators could put aside any petty differences and uncover the SH, CB chemistry kiss tape? I’m not saying it will be a unifying and CTJ moment, but it would give SH fans something to make the drought less….thirsty.

8. SH and Thirst Traps

Ladies, because of Outlander and all things Outlander related, we’ve had the pleasure to observe SH from every view and lovely angle. Come on, if you 👀 closely it’s all there. Why the actual f&ck people in this fandom have a problem with his shirtless posts is beyond me. Not only is he promoting the results a good fitness regime can produce, he is literally, yes literally giving his fans something they want. And don’t even try me with- you’re treating him like an object. This is a 100% consensual relationship. And if the word “hater” seems harsh about the same gang that complains and shits all over his shirtless thirst traps, then please find me a better name.

And I think the answer to that lies with the trial and the way Armand (and therefore Louis) narrated it... because I think the series of events is mixed up, rearranged to make sense in the tale, sense to LOUIS.

It would take weeks for Lestat to get to them. And I don't think he would be rehearsing the play with him right away.

Louis says in 2x06: "The Berlin Blockade ended in May. The Geneva Convention was agreed in August. Some of the front pages from that year. But if you look in the filler, in the back pages. Strange crimes reported."

So... the theater burned in August or later, is my takeaway from that?! (I believe that is a banquet with king George VI at Saint-James that is referred to there?! Google was surprisingly unhelpful though, so if anyone has further knowledge here...)

Armand then says: "A telescopic lens stolen from the Observatory at Meudon. A film company shooting the crime thriller 'Porte D'Orient' delayed when its inventory of color film stock is snatched. Then Louis again: A gang of drunkards, hanging off of the side of the Eiffel Tower, all facing south by southwest, all muttering in unison gone by the time police arrive by elevator."

These crimes were supposedly in the time before, in fact they must have been, obviously, since the theater burned at the end. Supposedly throughout during that year.

However, Claudia says: "We've been burying our meals outside Saint Denis. Flowers are starting pop up out of the ground. Lavender, sweet iris, peony. Flowers growing from the dead. Cold things becoming warm."

If we take this as true, then this indicates that the abduction night happened in spring - and that they had been away for quite some time.

Now, we know Louis went a little mad after the trial and the starvation period (no telling how long that was either), which is more than understandable, imho.

IF we take the theater burning in late 1949 as correct (as filed by the Talamasca), then it likely was towards the end of it.

I think Claudia and Madeleine died in late spring.

I think they left Paris in autumn 1948. Louis and Armand both wear coats in Montmartre, but there is no snow.

I think they only took the diaries after Claudia had left.

Because yes, I do not think Claudia would have not noticed if especially those diaries would have missed. But if she left them behind... I mean, she thought she had left it all behind, right, had started a new life with Madeleine.

And, it makes more sense in the whole tale as well, because in order to shift the blame to Santiago, he must have done it behind Louis' and Armand's back... and that is utter BS, imho, since there is no way someone like Armand did not know about the vampires watching them, for example.

I think it makes a lot more sense that Louis didn't notice the diaries gone after Claudia had left - he had probably put them on her desk or into her coffin or even put them away since Armand apparently used her coffin(! She asks him "How do you like my coffin?") and left them there.

And I think it makes a lot more sense that the diaries were taken in the months after Claudia left, as the coven was preparing, and rehearsing. It makes a lot more sense with the time they would need to find Lestat and lure him over, too. It would make a lot more sense with the time they would need to make him do what they wanted. It would make a lot more sense for Claudia to feel like she wanted to see Louis again, too.

Hi just properly scrolled through your blog for the first time and wanted to ask a question:

Re: Riz should be class president post from over a week ago - why should it be Riz over Kristen now that the class president position has stakes? Is it because of Kristen’s inconsistent access to her spells in case she needed to defend herself? I’d love to hear more about your thought process regarding this - assuming your opinion hasn’t changed since making that post.

My thoughts personally are that character-wise, it makes more sense to me for Riz to be the one strategizing as the campaign manager, because he’s the one actually finding a lot of the traps the Rat Grinders have put out for them.

Whereas Kristen makes more sense to me as a candidate purely because of her charisma and good radar for social bs - her weakness, of course, being that she’s a bit of a wild card in her choices regarding the campaign. But at the same time, she’s been able to get away with wearing a soggy salsa hat in front of the entire student body and still maintain some chance for the candidacy.

Obviously, I’m ignoring the more mechanical aspects of this comparison. If that’s what you were referring to in your original post idk then. I’m still wrapping my head around how Riz rolls so well now, level 10 dnd shit is way over my head.

so i think part of it is that, imho, brennan intended the class president arc to be riz's:

kipperlily is a rogue, v type a, and a narrative foil to riz, and this would have directly pitted them against one another

riz needed extra credit things for his college app, like being involved in student govt/being student president

there's also something about kipperlily being fundamentally riz but richer

kristen's arc was clearly always going to be about cassandra, trying to regain her favour, or increase her popularity, or resurrect her

nara is the kristen foil this season (once again, kristen but richer)

everyone has like an individual arc this season except for riz, bc his was supposed to be student president

beyond all of this, i don't actually think kristen is able to take the student president stuff too seriously - every time she tries, she ends up doing a bit instead, at the steel workers union, at the middle school, even at the party. i actually think if riz was the candidate, he would manage himself, in the same way that fabian wanted to be the party house and arranges that himself, and adaine needed a job and worked on and got that herself. so like i agree that he's the best campaign manager, but that doesn't preclude him from being the best candidate as well??

also, frankly, a lot of the good social graces kristen has had this year are from riz putting in the hard work - him joining all the clubs and making those connections, him taking stress to give her more popularity, his own popularity, etc.

like i'm enjoying the silliness of kristen's campaign, but i'm kind of with sklonda on this - riz would be a better candidate, and it is to some degree a shame that he's putting this much effort into running a campaign for someone else. if they legit need the student body president bc they'll become proxy headmaster, then i think a more serious campaign with riz at the helm and finally having his time in the spotlight is not a bad idea!!

I could write a 10 page essay on my thoughts and feelings about "A Bard's Lament" and about Scanlan. How I think a lot of people misinterpret what actually happened IMHO. It feels to me like a lot of people treat that scene like Scanlan is finally telling VM off for being bad friends and kind of cheer him on rather than realizing that he's having a mental health crisis having reached his breaking point and is lashing out.

Establishing some Game mechanics first and foremost, Sam consistently rolled 30+ deception checks anytime one of the others asked him how he was doing or tried to find out if he was having any problems. He is THE great deceiver. He lied to all of them, about everything. He never shared his worries or fears, or his drug problem. Nothing. Anytime they tried to connect with him, he shot them down, deflected masterfully. The other characters LITERALLY had no idea he was having any problems, if the players did anything about his problems after rolls like that it would have been metagaming. It's not that VM didn't care, they didn't know!

Which is frankly how he operated the whole campaign. From day one, anytime any of them asked him a personal question, he make a joke. Of course, Scanlan was a joke character in the beginning of the campaign, but from a character pov, the character treated everything as a joke. He cared about his friends, and they cared about him, they would die for him and vice versa, but he didn't have any heart to hearts with anyone. Slowly over the course of the campaign, everyone else opened up to each other, (or sometimes the narrative forced them to open up cough cough Percy cough cough) and he remained closed off, using humor to deflect any deeper connections. And the way the story went, he was never forced to share.

By the time "A Bards Lament" takes place, he's in a very bad place emotionally and is sad and scared and angry, and he says things to hurt people, not things that are true. (ok maybe some of it was true, but even the true bits were weaponized and honed to be the worst possible interpretations of events in order to hurt, not actually to BE truth. Vax and Keyleth definitely deserved a tuning up after their bs with the dragons. Personally, I'm very proud of Percy for not punching Scanlan for the comments about coming back to Whitestone just so he could be "proud of his name" or whatever, I've never heard such utter bullshit. Then some people are like, hey, why's Percy so mad at Scanlan, huh I fucking wonder? lmfao).

I relate to him in that I also use humor to deflect people and I sometimes wish that people would see what I feel and think; see through me, without me having to tell them. But that is unfair! I'm lying to them! That's on me! Which Is why I want to choke Scanlan out so often probably lmfao, because I understand where he's coming from and can see the mistakes he's making, and I just want to shake him.

I think a lot of people relate to Scanlan but perhaps... how shall I put this delicately... do not have the same level of self-awareness about the self-destructiveness of this particular approach to life and relationships and so feel a catharsis when he blows up at his friends because they also want to yell at their friends for not noticing their pain. Even though they are the ones who have hidden their pain with such skill that it really isn't their friend's fault they're clueless in the first place.

All that said, Vox Machina aren't perfect. They definitely could be better friends, they made mistakes. I just want to talk about the part of this that I don't often see discussed; Scanlan's depression and mental health struggles and their impact on his friendships and his responsibility.

Some people also act like VM bully "poor helpless Scanlan" (TLOVM sort of also acts like this sometimes which is annoying but oh well). When the reality is that Scanlan is a sharp tonged wit that verbally eviscerates his companions on a regular basis and so they treat him how he treats them. It's all banter... right up until it isn't and he's feeling sad and hurt and worthless and suddenly words hurt. But instead of opening his mouth and TELLING ANYONE how he feels, he just lets it build and build until he explodes.

I'm really worried about how TLOVM is going to handle it going forward, because so far they haven't really set up the group trying to connect with Scanlan and that's a mistake. They have a little, but they should do more. The scene with Pike was good, him instantly reverting to clownish behavior the second it got too sincere then him being frustrated with himself. But they really need to do some of that with the others as well and I'm worried they won't have time or won't think it's necessary.

It's HIS responsibility to reach out to others about his declining mental health. He is the one who set the rules of engagement as "Everything is a joke, especially serious things, I am allergic to sincerity" The others follow his lead. There's only so many times you can reach out to someone earnestly and receive a joke back for your troubles before you eventually respect the unspoken desire not to share and stop asking.

A lot of people cite the prank as some monstrous thing that VM did that proves that they don't love or respect Scanlan. Whereas actually, Sam Riegel admitted that at another moment in time, Scanlan would have found it funny. Pike knows that about him, which is why she did it. (Ashley of course, did it to send Scanlan over the edge because she's evil like that and they all adore drama lol). He was just in a terrible place mentally, so it felt like an insult instead of friendship. (idk where he said it, please don't ask, do you have any idea how many HUNDREDS of HOURS of CR I have watched?! It was probably talks machina).

Also, way back in the early episodes of C1 that lots of people skip, I forget which episode it is, but it was when they were under Kraghammer, Grog got his brain scooped out by the mind flayer or that brain creature or something (I'm a little fuzzy on the details). Anyway, they were all very frightened for Grog and they weren't sure they could save him. Once they figured out they could, Scanlan wanted to set up a prank for Grog to wake up to once they healed him (he was brain dead, in a coma or something). Point being Scanlan's a massive hypocrite lol. (which Sam fully admits).

But that's just personal taste. It also circles back to my previous points of YOU NEVER OPENED UP TO THEM SCANLAN, OF COURSE THEY DON'T KNOW YOUR MOTHER'S NAME! THAT'S YOUR FAULT!!!! MAYBE IF YOU DIDN'T TURN EVERYTHING INTO A JOKE, THEY'D KNOW HER NAME!!!!

The fact that Vasselheim has invited them makes me even more curious about a future without the gods. Bc it has the familiarity of worship and structure Vasselheim would be familiar with and other followers of the Primes. Could this be the Luxon religions foot in the door? I mean. Going through the 911 associated tags used to be fun.

Now it makes me sad, tense, and even angry.

It took less than two minutes of scrolling several different 911 related tags to see DOZENS of posts that were insulting other fandom groups, writers, actors or whoever, were seriously inflammatory, or, I'm going to be real about this, were just plain unhinged.

I've been in many different fandoms over many years. It was all about connecting, meeting cool people, and stoking the fires or creativity. Now it's ship wars and fighting. There are fandoms that are small and close-knit and, after decades, have never had any of this going on.

It's saddening to see how this fandom is devolving. A few people in every group are ruining the fandom for everyone else.

What is making it worse is that there are enablers defending them while accusing other groups in fandom of being "toxic" and "crazy".

Let's be rational about this:

1-Buddie and BuckTommy fandoms, both of you should be objective and honest. Both groups have members that are doing terrible things and making everyone look bad. If you are pointing the finger across the aisle but not at your fellow shippers who are behaving badly, you are not a part of the solution.

Only one person is going to choose what happens. No amount of fighting, whining, insults, namecalling, or whatever is going to get him to change his mind.

Can anyone who is brave look into HenRen, Madney, and Bathena posts and tell me if those tags are in chaos, too? Or are they safe havens for those who can enjoy all the different relationships? (Karen, Athena, and Maddie are badasses anyway. How can you not like them?)

2 Actor fandoms are involved wars?

Lou fandoms versus Ryan fandoms? Why are you arguing over two actors who are just doing what they are paid to do and that is say words in a script and play make-believe? Lou is not Tommy; Ryan is not Eddie. Tommy Kinard and Edmundo Diaz are not real and their actors are not necessarily anything like their characters.

Unless I know someone personally, there is no way I am defending anything they say or do. Why would I do that? I am going to take their actions at face value and move along. If it is especially ignorant or egregious, and I have a free moment, I call it out, say they are dumb, then be on my way. Why? Their personal and political beliefs don't influence me.

There is one member of the regular cast who said some very egregious and ignorant things as themselves and did some things that come across as antagonistic at best. The actions and statements were, imho, offensive and Indefensible, yet the attention on it vanished quickly and even the people who called them out are now friendly with them again. I probably would distance myself from that person permanently, but that's just me.

Now, there is a recurring character who said some things that has fandom riled. I have to look into it more.

But so? They are people, meaning they have some beliefs that are cool and some that suck. I just need them to bring the characters to life to get the story told then go home.

Actors engaging in questionable behavior is not the same as the character an actor portrays being a canonical douchebag. You have to blame the writers for what the characters do.

One is real; the other is just a figment of someone's imagination.

I used to scroll through the tags to get away from the stress and BS of the day real life brings. If I want a headache or stress, I can get that IRL in seconds.

It was nice to spend my down time looking at cool fanart, clips, fic excerpts, prompts, metas, or whatever. The responses and reblogs were full of hilarious quips and reactions. It was just fun.

Now?

It's absolutely a taste thing,and that's okay but not everything that isn't to your taste is bad or cringe. It's also fine not the like the glam style or genre they decided on for Lestat,that again is personal taste and preference but the composers and writers are trying, working hard, and have a vision,they are incredibly talented. Last but not least, let's all remember that Rice herself had certain inspirations in mind when writing Rockstar Lestat which were very much of the era. We don't even really know anything about Rockstar Lestat's music yet. If they go with the inspirations they and Rice cited,and add some more for good measure,then he will have RANGE.

Regardless of genre or sub genre,so many of these artists were REAL musicians who could compose, play multiple instruments,perform, and have become deservedly immortal for their music. Imho,almost every track back then had that something that a lot of, if not all, of modern mainstream music is missing. It had grit, it had soul, it felt real and right in your bones. They gave their all on stage,often to exhaustion - long shows that had clothing discarded,barefoot, and voices scratching at the end. Drink? Smoke? Do drugs? Half way in the crowd? Groupies? Fuck yeah! With the greats of the era, 99% of the spectacle was their music,style, and incredible stage presence - even those who had stage effects or props didn't really need them.

From Freddie Mercury playing piano to Bruce Springsteen with his harmonica etc etc etc - the style/genre doesn't really matter because it doesn't get better than just pure talent,chest hair,and a dose of creative madness.

I'm sorry but I think he looked fantastic,hell they toned his style way down - have you seen some of those bands in their stage get ups, and the music videos?! Wait and see if that's what you wanted, you'll never know what's really coming.

All of this is so funny to me. That teaser was both amazing and also so very tame. He didn't even rip the head off of a bat on stage or anything - if that's what you want maybe wait for the actual season,who knows,if Louis and Doc Bhansali can't get him to take his meds he might very well go there🤣 But fr he did look like he stepped out of my memories of that time,that's for sure. Just dressed down,and more little sad meow meow-y. That Big Bird jacket was so cute c'mon😆🤩

I really hope that RTD retcon in someway or tell that all the Timeless Child was a old lie created to destroy the timefolks society or something like that. I liked (and was kinda the whole point) thatThe Doctor was from a working class familly, nothing special in his world, but chaotic and against the fascist shit of his world state, and not this god-most-powerful-been-in-the-univers-above-everthing-and-origin-of-everything crap that moffat loves so much bc that's his favorite character to write bc he is a bs person and that also chibnall wrote bc he doesn't knew how to make sci-fi nor create plot twists.

I also would like if he stablish that Spy Master is the version between the Simm Master (which we should call Dums or W4r Master imho) and Missy, bc she deserved better and would have been awesome to make character development for The Master once and for all and that works on their traumas. Would be awesome to have a new Master/Mistress that is trying to be happy and chaotic good traveling with the 15th Doctor, finally working on their friendship and been finally best friends?

I was wondering, if all these predictions about team green being split turn out to be true (let's hope it won't be the case, but I have very little trust in the writers and Condal's bs in the interviews don't sound promising to say the least ) do you think that green fandom, already in the minority, will be divided? I've already seen Aemond getting hate for criticising Alicent in the trailer, and Alicent for defending Rhaenyra. I would hate to see TG fanbase being shattered because of this, but it's not unlikely. It began with the shipping wars, Helaemonds vs Helaegons vs Rhaenicents vs Alysmonds...which was stupid imho. Ship and let ship. But if the showrunners make the green family heterogeneous when it comes to their main cause and personal relationships, then it will become much more serious and difficult to see them as a family or one team. Anyway, I would like to read your analysis on this.

I believe your concerns are completely valid. When the "Defend Your Council" promo dropped, I kind of went "Pfft" at TB actors' words about how Team Green characters hate each other. But the more tidbits of information on season 2 we are getting, the more alarming the whole thing gets.

The Greens have King's Landing, true, but they are at a disadvantage where the numbers and the resources are concerned (they have fewer dragons, fewer allies, the Velaryon fleet against them). So being united, and act accordingly, is one of the most important things (if not the most important) they should be concerned with.

From the emotional point of view, dividing the Greens is also a crime against storytelling and character development. They are no ideal family, of course: most characters are damaged and their relationships between each other are messed up at least a bit in one way or the other (I talked about it a little in this post). But that doesn't mean the Greens don't care about each other. Alicent loves her children fiercely in spite of them being conceived, born and raised in a loveless marriage forced upon her. Aegon and Aemond are loyal to each other and have each other's back in spite of their relationship being tinged with resentment. Aegon and Helaena are not indifferent towards each other: even though they are not madly in love, they are bonded through blood and through their children - who Aegon will grieve for, because he is not an emotionless freak who cares only for himself.

So, having the Greens quarrel between each other in the season to come (if that will be the case) will only solidify my (and not only mine) already formed belief in the showrunners' determination to paint TG in the worst light imaginable. If the fandom's worst fears come true, there will be no Team Green to speak of in the first place. And doing this (at least partially, where it comes to Alicent) over Rhaenyra would just add insult to injury.

As for the fandom side of the problem - so true. It is disappointing and disheartening to see the fans who are heavily outnumbered as it is fighting between each other - and if the show goes through with breaking up TG things will get much worse. Aemond and Aegon's fans vs Alicent's, Aegon's vs Aemond's... All over the disastrous writing.
