something i've learned in corporate is there's always several goals with any successful social campaign. even more crucially with something as nuanced as kink art censorship.
ya gotta be strategic. you "win" by slowly achieving multiple realistic goals and pushing goal-posts forward.
so what are some of these other goals?
a) resources used initially for the CC-company calls can be quickly pivoted to efficiently fighting legislation like the IDOA (Obscenity Act, S.1671 / H.R.3297), the SCREEN act, and others. I've already found it helpful to getting contact information.
b) flooding CC phone lines with these initial waves makes it Expensive for executives them to pull this shit again later on. we want them to think twice about censoring other industries in a plain 'ol "not worth the money/brand hit" calculus.
blunting impacts in the future, buying us time.
c) cynically, we're also here and noisy to make censorship un-cool again. all of those former art harassers suddenly reading the room and against censorship now conveniently are still useful, even if we see their hypocrisy.
maybe some of them have even genuinely learned a very valuable lesson.
d) and yes, ideally, itch.io will find a payment processor OK with the still-frozen payments for kink art. (like mine…)
continuing to shed light on this issue helps them gain leverage with those complex behind-the-scenes business negotiations. the more noise = the more demand = more $$$ to make.
e) you'll genuinely never know some knock-on effects of being noisy. i heard from a lawyer today about them seeing this issue on a podcast. lawyers are extremely good people to have sympathetic to your cause, just sayin'.
keep multiple irons in the fire. don't burn out, but don't loose focus.
to be honest this global anti-kink censorship push was a freight train that was always coming at us (that some of us have been yelling about before 2018).
it's going to be rough. there will be casualties. but we can and will outlast the bastards. we've done it before.

poor things, well we should definitely make this easier on them by never repeatedly mentioning their name and deeds on the "reblog things forever" website

Blue State leftists will be like "my elected official's endorsement of minority rights was insufficiently enthusiastic, both parties are the same!" Meanwhile in a Red State your Facebook chats can be subpoenaed to convict you of the crime of accessing medical care.

My tar vase came outta the kiln!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was so scared it would explode or the "drips" would break etc but it came out perfectly Phew. sadly my studio does NOT have a glossy black glaze like my old class so we settled for a satin matte black instead. It was lovely though, it smoothed out all the rough finishing i had (i'm sloppy lol) If you like this vase, you might like my spikey vase/jug too! (everyone says it looks like ferrofluid :') )

There is a pervasive ideological construction that someone either deserves autonomy or support, but that these are mutually exclusive.
This artificial construction is extremely present when it comes to discourses about age and ability. People will discuss taking away choices or censoring information as "protecting" young and disabled people, and will discuss taking away material support as a necessary exchange for decision making (e.g. "if you live under my roof, you live under my rules"--a threat that asserting autonomy comes at the cost of homelessness). This dynamic is so foundational to the oppression of children that even when applied to adult groups we use words like paternalism and infantilization to communicate that a group of adults is being treated "like children."
Whenever you demand autonomy, people use this as justification to withdraw resources and care. Whenever you express your need for resources and care, people use this as justification to withdraw bodily autonomy. In reality, all people deserve bodily autonomy and care. And in reality, oppressed people are routinely denied both.

I feel like one of the reasons why the US is Like That is the difference between countries and states. Because apparently when you're nominally still the same country, different states can pull absolute bullshit on each other that would not fly in relations between two countries.
Like if idk Belgium decided "hey we have this huge homelesness problem that we've been neglecting for decades while allowing it to get progressively worse, but we figured out how to fix it: we're loading all the homeless people onto buses and moving them across the border to France", the french response wouldn't just be "aw naw ugh I wish they couldn't do that :/"
It'd be "hey buddy that's really funny, do you want to see how fast we can get tanks on the streets of your capital?"

man the public defender discourse pisses me off so bad. yeah. yeah I do think that every single person deserves representation. yeah that includes people who *have* committed rape and murder and abuse. when I say every single person I mean every single person. if your idea of justice excludes one person it excludes everyone. next question
