Why should you support, or at least respect, paraphiles?

Stupid little [informational] rant on why there's nothing wrong with paraphilias and paraphilic disorders, yes that includes the bad ones, and why anti-paraphilia is technically ableist. "S-so i'm ableist for not liking pedophilia?!" shut up and listen.

Before I go all out here's some terms you should know ;

anti-contact : someone who doesn't support *practicing paraphilias, more specifically ones that cannot be consented to.

pro-contact : someone who supports *practicing paraphilias

there's also neu-contact, complex-contact, blah blah

*practicing : a paraphile who practices (acts on) their paraphilia

non-practicing : a paraphile who doesn't practice (act on) their paraphilia

okay keep reading for the actual reasons, please repost to spread awareness /nf.

To start, paraphilias are completely uncontrollable just like any other fetish or even mental condition. Their causes are mostly trauma, internet exposure at a young age, and sometimes can be passed down through genetics. Again, they cannot control any of those, so why judge them for it?

Because of the way paraphilias are looked down on, it makes it difficult for them to seek treatment or even supportive communities. Especially younger paraphiles who may not be in a good environment or feel too ashamed to tell anyone about it. Not being able to get help can lead paraphiles to harm others or themselves.

Paraphiles do not choose to be paraphiles, they do choose however, whether they act on their paraphilia or not. If you still don't understand, let me explain it in a different light. Take NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) for example, people view those with that disorder as horrible and abusive (which isn't true mind you.) NPD is also caused by trauma or genetics, and narcissists have the choice of being abusive or not, just like any other person.

So what makes it so different from other mental conditions, especially since paraphilic disorders are also a thing? They're only viewed horribly because of the stereotypes, just like almost every mental condition. Does that make them deserving of being discriminated against, for something they have no control over?

Now take anti-para and replace it with something else, like anti-PTSD or anti-hypersexual, now that doesn't sound like something you'd want to be, does it? Be support of all neurodivergent / mentally disabled people, not just some.

kiryuu sibling stasis post-32 is so interesting to me. nanami tries to leave and is (temporarily but also, crucially, violently) prevented from doing so by touga and akio. after this experience she puts distance between herself and them: she leaves touga’s phone in the car, she resigns from the student council (though she dons her old uniform still), she repeatedly dismisses and undermines the authority of the rose code, of end of the world, of akio, of touga. but she’s still in ohtori, isn’t she? uncomfortable with the idea of leaving, uncertain if it’s really possible. she tried before, and it hurt her. deeply. it’s so interesting to me, nanami’s agency and how she limits her exertion of it after 32, when she realises it for what it is. contrast that with touga, who accepts this weird stalemate between them, who is, really, uninterested in having any relationship of any kind with nanami if he can’t gain something from her. he’s very passive with her after 32, compared to the passivity he’d always feigned towards her before in order to stoke reactions from her and then exploit them. i was thinking about how touga has always been able to sever his relationship with nanami, but chosen not to; first out of a sense of obligation (‘we should live to help each other’) then a realisation of how that could be exploited. i was thinking about how nanami has never realised her ability to leave, in part because it is limited by touga and the harm he does her. i was thinking about the desperation and confusion akio calls out to anthy with as she leaves. i was thinking about how different that is to the kiryuus’ strange semi-breakdown; touga doesn’t want or need nanami, and nanami might love her brother but she cannot trust him or feel safe around him, doesn’t want to see him anymore; she’s itching to leave, and just a little scared (you know, because last time she tried that her brother assaulted her), and he’s not doing anything because ignoring her means he doesn’t have to deal with the emotions of her leaving or staying. something something gendered power dynamics something something tragic siblings

Vultures have some of the largest wingspans, aside from seafaring birds like albatross and pelicans! so i got real curious about Godot’s wingspan being a bearded vulture n all

For atarters, here they are next to people!

I’m gonna be using the averages of all tge size ranges for this btw

The average bearded vulture stands at about 2 feet high, with an average wingspan of around 8 feet.

This leaves them at about a 3rd of the height of Godot, who (according to the wiki) stands at 6ft 1in! I’m rounding down to 6ft even for sake of ease

Taking the wingspan and tripling it, that would leave us with 8ft x 3 = 24ft wingspan

For reference, each wing would be around

11 FEET LONG

(subtracting around 10in for the shoulderblades, based on my brother lol)

this would be about 2 godots on their sides for EACH WING.

anyways i know there was the question of how godot’s wings ended up coffee stained, have you considered he consistently knocks the coffee pots over with his GIANT BIG WINGS

Mute Allison Hargreeves (The Umbrella Academy AU)

I was rewatching Season 1 and reached the episode where Viktor(at the time going by Vanya) accidentally slit Allison’s throat. when she recovered, Luther said she shouldn’t use her vocal chords for the time being as to prevent further damage. For the rest of Season 1, Allison uses a notepad to communicate with the family. But then my HOH brain had a thought, what if she stayed mute and had to use ASL to communicate?

“How would she know ASL?” you may ask. I have a few hypotheticals.

1. Reginald had all the Hargreeves children learn ASL. Maybe he wanted them to know it in the event of deaf hostages, maybe to practice hand coordination, or effective communication in stealth missions, etc.

2. Grace taught them all sign language. In one of my ASL classes, there was a guy who had a pretty bad stutter. He was going through speech therapy but he still wanted to learn another form of communication that wasn’t writing. I mention him because diego had a stutter as a kid, maybe Grace taught him sign language so he could communicate when speaking got too hard. She taught the rest of the family so they could understand him. Although I imagine Reginald would be too stubborn to learn

3. Allison learned ASL for a role

“Would she still be able to rumor people?”

Aside from the mental block/morals she has around her powers, I say yes. Despite the fact her powers are shown to come from her mouth, I’d say in this AU, her powers come from her head rather than her vocal chords. ASL is just another language, I think as long as she can sign “I heard a rumor”, she can still use her powers.*

Also I think she could rumor people who don’t know ASL. At the beginning of Season 2, she says “I heard a rumor, that I blew your minds” to Soviet soldiers (who presumably don’t speak English) and their heads blew up.

“What if the rest of the Hargreeves family doesn’t know ASL?”

Well if I was Allison I’d rumor them into understanding ASL. (kidding, but lord knows I wish I could rumor my family members into spontaneously being fluent in ASL.) However I believe the Hargreeves family would learn ASL. (I know they barely hang out as a family even after s1 and they die in s4 but let a boy dream)

- I think Five would know from reading books during the apocalypse and his time in the commission.

- Luther and Viktor don’t know anything but are most willing to learn.

- Diego learned the basics years ago(during his time in the police academy, or after he saved a deaf mugging-victim) but is now brushing up on it.

- Klaus barely knows and ghost-Ben is basically fluent. Ghost-Ben acts as his invisible interpreter while Klaus is learning.

Theres a separate story to be had about the Hargreeves family learning ASL and miscommunicating with each other in sign. Because it wouldn’t be the Hargreeves family without a healthy dose of miscommunication.

*note: ASL is a more direct language than english. It gets the point across quicker. Ex: In english you would say “how tall are you?” in ASL it would be “you how-tall?”

TDLR: local tumblr user obsessed with projecting himself onto fictional characters makes an AU where the main characters use ASL…again.

I'm probably preaching both to the choir and also to people who do not care but I'm gonna say it anyway:

I love how so many of the people who loved Dante into the person he is are women. It means the world to me that so much of his character- his deeper character not the mask he shows to the world- is informed by so many women.

I know some people will roll their eyes and point at how he acts sometimes.

And to that I say, you should look closer. If you believe the way he acts when hes trying to put demons off their game so that they underestimate him or get too angry to properly fight. Or when he's trying to push the people he loves away and keep them at arms length because he truly believes he's a detriment to their very lives. Is how he is deep down, congrats, you're seeing Dante as his mask. Which is exactly how he wants everyone to see him.

There's a saying I always have in the back of my head when I think of him and the way this mask operates:

Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear, and a fool from any direction.

Dante gets all his best most genuine traits and deepest drives from the women in his life past and present. Everyone attributes his power to Sparda, he is haunted by the presence of his father as its all he hears from any demon he faces. But its Eva who gave him his love, his need to protect, his gentle soul that is only shown in moments where the mask of his father's legacy slips.

He carries pieces of Nell with him everywhere. Reminding him of the cost of getting too close, the cost of kindness and pushing him to do better for those around him. To keep fighting even when it hurts.

I could go on, I haven't even touched on Lady or Trish, but this post would become a mile long. I just love him and it makes me sad when people cant see the deep and abiding love Dante holds for the women in his life. How changed he is by them.

sometimes I’ll see a pairing that I so desperately wished I liked, but when I look at it, it’s like. Everyone shipping it seems to treat it like a cute sweet normal pairing, when it seems blatantly obvious to me that it would be a complete trainwreck that would crash and burn sooner than coalesce into a healthy relationship, considering the characters actual canon personalities.

Just so I stop bothering others cuz I’ve been super annoying the last few days- (It’s all fun and games but my shame kicks in and I have been trying to supress it), and also because I’m starting to get a little baffled about what I receive, I’m going to be a lot pickier about which asks I actually do respond to.

Unless they’re interesting, relevant (especially this), or seem fun I’m probably just gonna not.. Which almost feels counterintuitive to how I do things nowadays because I admittedly rely on being prompted by others a lot. Especially since trying to muster up the guts to post even the most asinine art I can think of feels like a shot in the dark. It feels almost like getting permission and having a safety net of sorts because I know beforehand that somebody wanted whatever it is I could offer. I don’t really feel useful or involved otherwise. But, I digress.

Don’t get me wrong I DO REALLY LOVE THE ENTHUSIASM, it makes me really happy to see 😳😭 and i’m flattered and super grateful. But, I’m really not like… some all-knowing person, and the more… esoteric the questions get, the less I have to say. If anything at all. There comes a point when I wonder how much is just a joke to gauge a reaction or something rather than genuine interest.
