in august, kennedy went cruising off the coast of northern maine with some friends aboard the palawan, a yacht borrowed from thomas watson, the chairman of ibm. a gust of wind suddenly blew jfk’s old bomber jacket off the deck and into the water. without hesitating or apparently thinking, rfk went right over the side after his brother’s jacket.

the palawan was sailing fast. the water temperature in the bay of maine was about 50 degrees. the captain quickly spun the wheel, but he seriously worried that kennedy would drown in the icy water before he could bring the boat around. he estimated that kennedy could last no more than twelve minutes. that was about how long it took to fish rfk, blue and shaking but holding the sacred garment, from the sea.

i have!! i have a few on my page. i’m having some trouble with my memory rn, but i think one of my favorite jfk facts that i can remember atm was told to me by my girlfriend:

when jack was in the senate, his doctor recommended him a rocking chair because of his back pain. and so jackie bought him a couple for home and his office. but then, to prove to one of his colleagues in the senate that he wasn’t sick or in pain, he rocked so hard in the chair he TIPPED IT BACK AND FELL OVER, and then got up like nothing happened 😭

the first five minutes of a seven minute dictated memoir entry regarding the coup in saigon and the deaths of ngo dinh diem and ngo dinh nhu, briefly interrupted by john jr. november 1963.

okay this is one of my favorite jfk audios. the coup against the diem government was one of kennedy's more controversial foreign policy decisions; this seems to be a fairly genuine articulation of his uncertainty and, to some extent, regret regarding his administration's handling of it.
