Holy shit it’s been another year????? The hell?????

Also! Your art style is gorgeous and that being found in 2023 and then refined throughout late 2023 and the entirety of 2024 really shows, as does your growth in panel layouts, perspective, and — as you said — experimentation. If you ever post your animation or video game art I’m looking forward to it.

As cheesy as it sounds, being able to laugh at funny comics and look at all the details of your art really made my 2024 brighter, even when things were hard. Including looking at your older art— it doesn’t need to be new to be enjoyable! I’m glad your art is well loved and it’s a privilege to have been here since the (near) beginning. I hope you take care of yourself in 2025 and beyond!

Thank you so much for keeping up with my art journey throughout these last two years! Two years!!! I am baffled at how that feels both too long and too short!

Admittedly, my art summary didn't manage to capture the fact that I did a lot of comic layouts that I'm really proud of. I also drew more backgrounds and made some very detailed works (*Dungeon Meshi spoilers for these examples*).

The growth is lot more evident when comparing my 'best' comics of 2023 to 2024:

i love helping other transmascs speedrun getting over their doubts and fears about going on t. there are two people in my personal life who have been contemplating going on t for a while, and both of them talked to me about it because i’m the resident Guy On T, and by the end of our conversations one of them was fully decided that they want to start t and the other had realized the thing that had been stopping them was actually probably not a real barrier at all. i’m making it my life’s mission to become the little trans devil on as many people’s shoulders as possible whispering “you should totally go on t i think you would really like it” in their ears. maybe the real transgender craze seducing our daughters was the friends we made along the way.

oh boy im having thoughts about miquella and malenia again!!!

i don't know if it was intentional or not but like yk seeing malenia's entire character and seeing how the most important thing to her (save for her brother) is her dignity and her pride and her sense of self. after a lifetime of fighting the scarlet rot malenia is someone who still resists it every day no matter how strong it gets because she is someone who will fight to the bitter end to make sure it doesn't overtake her, to make sure that she's still just her and not the vessel for the rot.

(of course, the exception to this is when she bloomed in aeonia and in her fight with us, but I'll call those last-ditch attempts arising out of desperation so)

you get it malenia suffers every day of her life and the rot threatens to consume her but she refuses to let it win and instead completely rejects it and scorns it; she won't let it take away what makes her her.

and contrast it with the dlc where we see her brother miquella do exactly the opposite of what she does. because of his crosses, we see how much of himself miquella has lost how he constantly sheds pieces of himself in his effort to become a god to the point where he even discards his love, his other half st. trina.

he did all this to fulfill his goals, to succeed in what he thought was right; what he thought was a necessary sacrifice that would only bring him closer to his goals of a kind and compassionate world. only the problem is it ended up making him into something he was not; miquella the kind was certainly not like miquella the unalloyed.

i am aware that miquella even in the base game was not the wow sunshine jesusesque figure that did no wrong and was purehearted through and through. even then there were hints to a more complex character, but I think the difference between miquella the kind and miquella the unalloyed is that the miquella of before was someone who cared so so deeply on such a personal level; he was someone who put his heart and soul into helping each and everyone whether it be by crafting prosthetics or needles for his sister to ward away the rot and the meddling of outer gods or whether it was to try to give his brother godwyn a proper death; he was someone who cared very very deeply and in a very personal manner. but afterwards, I think in his quest for godhood miquella became someone very distant, very impersonal in the way a benevolent god who is looking out for everyone and who is "doing the right thing no matter what because ik better and I have the power to fix things" is. he is very removed from that which he once was; he abandoned himself and subsequently abandoned the very ideals he was fighting for.

miquella the kind still wants a world filled with peace and compassion but now, he is a god, now he is someone willing to take the most drastic of measures because now he is no longer the boy that was miquella the unalloyed that believed in an age of compassion with love present. you cannot have compassion without having love which, of course, miquella the kind has abandoned.

i don't know there's just something interesting about these siblings where one has continuously resisted the urge of an outer god who is trying to force her into being something she does not want to be and then there is the one who willingly rips away that which makes him him because he thinks that this will help him become someone he should be; it will help him become the god that will fix this broken world.

The Syd Poll

the topic of this poll is one that is frequently avoided in the pink floyd fandom, but inevitably one we all consider – our individual views on what we think caused syd's psychological struggles (and by extension, led to his departure from the band). I think that – at least in this neighborhood of tumblr – this is a conversation we are capable of having in a way that is civil, nuanced, and at least minimally disrespectful to syd.

So, to help facilitate this, here are some ground rules:

let's all assume we have a mutual understanding of the complexities of this. syd could never actually be reduced down to a poll, and all of our viewpoints are limited in various ways

the poll options just serve as just a conversation starter, and responses are not necessarily a statement of absolute beliefs

i know i said i was happy about how mel's story went, but the more i think about it the less i'm sure about that. this is very much connected to how the themes of classism and wealth disappeared in s2, but mel in the beginning was the epitome of piltover. she wanted to advance piltover to prove herself to her mother. to "put piltover—" and by extension herself, "—on the map."

she wanted wealth just to have it. and i'm not blaming her for anything that happened, especially with hextech! she, just like jayce and viktor, could not have known what it would lead to. i mean yeah heimerdinger said so but who the hell listens to heimerdinger? but anyway i think mel changed throughout s1, much in thanks to jayce. by the end she's become more cognisant of the mistreatment of zaunites. she's the first to vote for their peace. she was a good person all along but now she knows how to act on it. it's also seen more in s2 act 1. when she covers her painting with gold, it's symbolic—she won't act according to what her mother might think. she won't let her desire for approval dictate her anymore.

so somehow i wish those themes were. continued, somehow? like again they were dropped not just with mel but the whole show and it makes her story a off to me. there's no meaningful commentary on war or classism or how her ideology stands opposite to her mother's. like some people have said, it feels like she doesn't have much agency, even if she is really cool. and that to me is a shame because agency felt like her thing. "to shape your own destiny" as she says to jayce in s1. i know her collaborating with the black rose (but not fully joining them) and learning magic is supposed to represent becoming independent from her mother, taking her own path, but some other aspects of her character were thrown away... the more i think about it the more i'm thinking they kind of #girlboss-ed her a little bit. maybe to sell another champion. i can't help but feel like even though i enjoyed seeing her on screen, the payoff didn't feel proportionally satisfying compared to her setup in s1.

So I got accused of racism and basically called an idiot for trying to point out a flaw in someone’s argument. Not cool.

If anyone cares to read this thing, can they tell me what they think? I need other opinions <3

First off, like an utter buffoon, in my anger I blocked them before I could screenshot my replies, so you’ll have to take my word for it. If you know my account at least, you’ll know I’m not and have never been racist, or idealized the baby sister Cass trope (in fact, I detest it).

I see this meme talking about the usual: people™️ wanting Cass to fall into negative stereotypes bc it’s cute or whatever, and the op gallantly pulling up a panel in which Cass displays the opposite.

The flaw with this one was two things: the panel they chose was Helena Bertinelli in the Batgirl costume, speaking in full sentences, and it was captioned “… and she can talk perfectly well.”

Of course I don’t think Cass is some little helpless baby because “aww she can’t talk she can’t read” that’s disgusting. What I do think is that going all the way to the opposite end, saying “no Cass is perfectly fine she can talk fine she’s not impaired in any way” is ableist. Is that wrong?

Cassandra is a disabled woman, and I think that saying things like “she can talk perfectly fine” is just a bit canonically incorrect. It’s straight up denying that she has a disability, if you ask me right now. BUT.

In newer issues, where Cassandra is older, and has worked on her disability more, she’s shown to communicate in full sentences and such. It would be different, to me, if they had a picked a panel from any comic with her that came out in the last 5 years where she CAN talk well, and it’s not Helena Bertinelli in her costume.

So, I’m arguing with this person. My initial reply was just me saying that the panel was Helena, and Cass didn’t exist until later and didn’t talk until even later, with citations. I was being petty. Definitely ended up being a mistake. I apologize.

The op then replies, and I paraphrase because this happened a few minutes ago, that they have writers privilege so they’re right and I’m wrong, that my citations were incorrect because—oh my gosh—the Helena panel wasn’t a comic titled No Man’s Land, even though I said ��No Man’s Land V2”, not the specific comic, and that I’m not as old as the comic, because that’s relevant/s.

They were grabbing every straw in the bale. And here’s where I messed up: I replied. I was snarky. I told them they were grabbing straws, and I thought their argument was flawed, even though some of it was correct.

A MAJOR POINT THOUGH: in my last reply before this lovely message up top, I concluded that I thought their argument was FLAWED even though their point that people shouldn’t infantilize Cassandra was CORRECT.

Apparently they didn’t read it before responding to it, they were just so excited to point and yell “I’m big you’re little” that they didn’t see my response in which I very clearly stated that I did not like or support that trope.

Ok, I’m tired. In conclusion, I recognize now that trying to argue with anyone online is beyond stupid and will only get you called names and shouted at behind blue light. I apologize for being petty, and not just letting a (minor, in the grand scheme of things) note of ableism go and continuing on with my night. From here on out, I’ll know to never post any critical comments. It’s better for everyone to just remain calm and scroll past what you don’t like. Call this a learning experience.

My goal here is not to get any sympathy, it’s just that I’m pretty much always unsure if I did or said the right thing (in this case regarding the content of the argument, not the fact that the argument was had), especially online, so I want to get some other perspectives to tell me if I was horrendously wrong or not. This persons comment rattled me, and I know I messed up, so I want to know what someone else thinks of the situation. I also don’t want to be known as a bad person in case op had the same idea, so this is my side of the story.
