hitman au save me .. its been seven years ..
havenât been able to draw/write much of this au lately but i want to write a few little scene snippets i have stored my brain :âD ill include them under cut
=+=
âThis better be something good,â Scar muttered to Cub as they stepped out of the elevator. The hitman, while bound to his contract, considered âboringâ missions to be a waste of his time.
âI hope so,â Cub hummed. âHope so.â
The ConVex swung open the doors to the NHO conference room, not bothering to check if their bosses were actually ready for their meeting.
âHoly mother ofâ! Knock next time, will you?â A man setting files down on the conference table jumped visibly as the doors slammed open.
âThe Vex require a dramatic entrance, Beef,â Scar said casually. Cub snickered.
âSure, whatever.â Beef furrowed his brow, used to this behavior. He didnât have time for this. âOkay. Doc was supposed to do this briefing, but heâs busy with his machines I guess, because of course he is, so.â He huffed, composing himself. âYour new top-secret project. This oneâs a doozy. Have a look.â
Beef slid the folder across the table. The hitmen flipped it open, absorbing its contents with hungry eyes.
What caught their eyes immediately were the photos. The person of interest looked nothing like a powerful crime boss or a dangerous anomaly. A young adult with glasses, dark eyes and short, sandy brown hair stared back at them.
âWhoâs this?â Scar raised an eyebrow. Is the NHO asking them to assassinate some normal-looking university student?
âThat is Grian,â Beef explained, both hands planted firmly on the table. âGrian has been with us at the NHO for months.â
âIâve never seen him before,â Scar remarked.
âGrianâs case is top-secret. Heâs been staying in high-security, private quarters⌠as well as our research laboratories.â
âI thought you guys seemed super suspicious lately! I knew they were hiding something from us, Cub,â Scar nudged his partner with a grin. Cub did not budge as his sharp eyes combed through the documents. He hadnât heard a single word spoken to him.
âCub? Whatâs the deal?â Scar asked. He preferred to let Cub read their mission files and summarize it for him, anyways. Dyslexia and top-secret government files were not a great mix. Oh, what would he do without Cub?
âWatchers?â Cub finally spoke, looking up at Beef with a quizzical frown. The other man nodded slowly. âYouâre kidding.â
âAfter months of testing and analysis, we can confirm that this individual is the only currently documented case of a mortal possessing Watcher abilities,â Beef nodded slowly.
Scar had heard whispers of the Watchers only a handful of times. As a vex, he knew plenty about the realm of magic, the divine, the fae, you name it! But Watchers were said to be ancient entities, perhaps as old as time itself. So old that they were widely considered to be a myth.
âSo this is not a hit,â Scar said after a moment.
âThis is not a hit, Scar, good lord, do not kill this person,â Beef put both hands on his forehead and let them slowly drag down his face.
âMortal, you say?â Cub raised an eyebrow.
âYep,â Beef said. âShe was a completely normal citizen until he got these abilities in some freak accident. Lucky for everyone involved, the NHO was able to take control of the situation before anything⌠dangerous happened.â
âSo,â Scar narrowed his eyes slightly, âIf this isnât a hit, then what do you want from us?â
Beef sighed. âAfter months of testing to determine Grianâs situation, the NHO has decided that he is too important to return to life as a normal citizen at this time. Instead, weâd like to utilize his abilities in our goals to maintain order in Hermit City, and we need someone to train her how to be a special agent in the field.â
âYou want the ConVex to train a Watcher how to be a hitman,â Cub said with a slight smirk at just how insane that sounded.
âYep.â
âHuh.â Scar put both hands on his hips. âWell, thatâs not what I was expecting.â
âI suppose we could give it a shot,â Cub said. Although the ConVex were bound by a fae contract to work for the NHO, the vex took every opportunity to feign control over their situation. There was no choice here. Beef had given them an order.
âSure, sure! We are very good at our jobs, after all,â Scar grinned. Whatever happened, good or bad, would at least be entertaining, surely.
âYouâll come back here to meet her tomorrow morning,â Beef instructed. âHand me that file back and be here by 9, will you?â
âSure thing,â Cub replied coolly, sliding the file back to the man. Scar couldnât help but grin wider when he noticed Cubâs hand casually in his pants pocket, some folded white paper barely visible in his grip.
âDonât be late. Iâm serious this time,â Beef called out as the hitmen turned and exited the conference room.
=+=
The conference room was tense that morning. Towards the end of the table sat the NHO - Beef, Doc, Etho, and Bdubs. On one side sat Cub and Scar. Across from them, Grian sat alone.
âSo, how about introductions?â Doc clapped his hands together. âEr⌠Cub and Scar, this is Grian. Grian, this is Cub and Scar. You guys already know the deal. Grian is going to come with you on missions from now on.â
The ConVex hadnât taken their eyes off of Grian since they entered the room, unable to resist their curiosity. They had both read the files, but still found it hard to believe the person before them was a Watcher. Grian sat rigid in his chair, fiddling with his hands, looking tense and exhausted. She eyed the vex curiously as well.
âWell hello there,â Scar greeted. âIâm Scar, and this is Cub.â
âHey, hey,â Cub said quietly.
âHello,â The corner of Grianâs mouth twitched in a possible attempt at a smile.
The three continued to stare at each other until Bdubs cleared his throat.
âWonderful introduction. Now that weâve broken the ice, letâs talk about your next mission.â The man picked up a small remote, and the large screen on the wall behind them illuminated.
âBefore we send our agents out into the field, we meet like this to discuss the details and ensure that the mission is clearly understood,â Doc explained to Grian, throwing a disapproving glare in the ConVexâs direction.
A lengthy file on some high-profile criminal appeared on the screen, as Bdubs proceeded to read off the information. Scar slumped back in his chair. These mission briefings were the worst. It was time to zone out and have Cub tell him the details later with all the fluff cut out.
At about ten minutes in, Scar yawned absentmindedly.
âOh, are we boring you, sir?â Doc interrupted Bdubs to shoot a piercing stare at Scar.
âOh, not at all!â Scar said cheerfully, but slumping in his chair slightly lower.
âAs I was saying,â Bdubs continued loudly.
Scar glanced over at Grian. Her eyes quickly darted back to the presentation when they made eye contact. Scar looked over at Cub and found he had still not taken his eyes off of Grian. Hopefully Cub was at least somewhat paying attention, because he sure wasnât.
Grian continued to fidget with his hands. Scar felt a pang of pity for him. The vex were used to this sort of environment, but according to the NHO, Grian had a completely normal life up until a few months ago. Now suddenly, he gains these terrifying powers and spends months in a top-secret lab having tests run on her all day. Who wouldnât be overwhelmed?
Scar yawned again, this time more intentionally. He earned another death glare from Doc, but Bdubs droned on. He glanced over and saw Grian rubbing a hand on his cheek to help hide a grin.
The art of annoying your boss was a delicate one. Timing is everything. Let enough time pass until theyâve forgotten, or they think youâve stopped, to continue the game. Scar lets about ten minutes pass before his next yawn, bigger this time.
âQuit it,â Beef hissed. Even Etho glanced over. Doc kept his eyes on the screen, but his jaw was clenched. Grian let out a cough that sounded suspiciously like a laugh.
Five minutes later, Cub clears his throat rather loudly. Bdubs stutters over his words for a second, but because Cub is Cub, none of the NHO seems to be able to tell if that was a deliberate cough or not, and they decide to ignore it. Cub shows no emotion.
After an hour that felt like an eternity of Bdubs explaining every possible detail about the case, it seemed to be almost concluded. That was, until a rather loud yawn was heard throughout the conference room.
âWILL YOU LET ME FINISH, FOR GOODNESS SAKE?!â Bdubs finally erupted, whipping around in his chair to face Cub and Scar.
The hitmen stared back blankly. They glanced over across the table, and Bdubs followed their gaze, where Grian sat with both arms over her head in a large stretch.
âSorry,â Grian said simply when all eyes were on him, lowering his arms. âJust had to stretch a bit.â He stared back at Bdubs innocently.
The NHO stood there, confused. Bdubs was at a loss for words, unable to get a read on the new recruit. He sighed and turned back to the screen. âWell, regardless, I think weâve about summed things up,â he grumbled.
Scar made eye contact with Grian once again. The two cracked a smile at one another for a second, too quick for the NHO to notice.
Scar had a feeling that him, Cub and Grian were going to get along just fine.

how im preparing for 2025â.ŕłŕż*:シđŹđ
MY MANIFESTING LIST ;
every year i always make a list of the things that i wanna manifest in 2025, i dont always complete it in the first sitting bcuz i add onto it as the year progresses but i like to have a basic framework of everything that im manifesting in that year.
also along with my manifest list for 2025, i also create a 2025 vision board because it motivates me and reminds me of all the amazing things that im going to experience in 2025.
REFLECTING ON THIS YEAR ;
so in my notion i have a section called the 'monthly digest' where every single month i break down the 4 weeks of the month and everything that i did in them in relation to my goals. after every month i write a little summary.
so with that being said i have a LOT to go back to and reflect on so that i can see what i accomplished this year and what i can do better in the next year. this reflection system that i have is so helpful so i'll set one up for 2025 so that i can also have that at my disposal.
BREAKING UP THE NEXT YEAR ;
i break up my year into 4 quarters (each lasting 3 months) that way i can see my year broken up and i have a clear plan and i can be organized. quarter one (january - march) quarter two (april - june) so on and so forth. and after every quarter i do a little analysis.
something else that i wanna try for next year is giving myself quarterly themes. like for each quarter of the year i'll focus on a different aspect of myself, i think that could be funâŚđŹđ
PREPARATIONS ;
im wrapping up some things like my projects, assignments and things of that nature so that i can go into the next year on a clean slate. furthermore im making plans for new years eve, and january and making sure that i've already set some things in motion.
all in all, with everything in motion and everything set in place im going into the new year INCREDIBLY confident đđ

long but fascinating video. the basic criticism is p much spelled out in the thumbnail there: Western music that labels itself 'Persian', 'Arabic', 'Egyptian' etc or serves as soundtracks for Middle Eastern settings is always a mishmash of wildly geographically separated regional elements that almost exclusively refers back to other Western orientalist music, but passes itself off as the real thing enough that most people have no idea what, say, Iranian music actually sounds like. it's certainly true... but the really interesting part for me is the details: Faraji breaks down the stereotypical elements of that orientalist style (the Armenian duduk, melodies that walk up and down the double harmonic major scale, a certain very specific vocal style) and describes what's missing (e.g. the many more common modes of Iranian music which use microtonal quarter tone steps, the complex ornamented articulations, the specific 'accents' of different regions) and in a fascinating bit, makes a similar mishmash of regions applied to Europe to make a parody 'Scottish' song which honestly kinda slaps. he's also got a pretty good analysis of where this stuff comes from in the affordances of Western instruments and VSTs - it's nearly impossible to play microtonal music on a guitar or piano, and Western musicians don't really learn how to do it
I don't have much to add besides 'interesting video!' but I'll definitely be using this channel a bit in the next big music theory post I'm cooking up (which will mainly be about trying to understand the process of composition). he's got another long video on Iranian music theory too and I'm looking forward to checking it out...

now playing: Moon
< track 6 || fine.
ă Alexia Putellas x Reader, Leah Williamson x Reader (platonic), MarĂa Leon x Reader (platonic), Barcelona FemenĂ x Reader
ă words count: +6k
ă how can I be dead to you / when we're looking at the same moon?
The second leg of the Champions Leagueâs quarter final between Barcelona and Arsenal is scheduled ten days after the first one.
Ten days in which you do nothing but think about this game. About welcoming your former club in your new home. About the tactics and the plays that didnât work out quite as you wished, about what to do and not do to be better.
About Alexia.
Alexiaâs a constant thought, and for the first time since leaving Barcelona, you allow that thought to invade every single corner of your mind.
I hope you found what you left for
The conversation you had on your favourite spot replies over and over again in your head. Lying in your bed as you relive it all late at night or surprised by a sentence in the middle of practice, itâs always with you in some way. You let her smile pop up out of nowhere and let one of your own grow on your lips without a reason. You indulge yourself in speaking about your relationship, about her, about how you felt with her and how you feel without her.
You try to forgive yourself now you know she doesnât hate you.
To the point you permit yourself to send a text to Eli and Alba and invite them to watch the game in the family and friendsâ section of the Emirates Stadium. They obviously declined, but you didnât expect them to actually take in your offer - it was a symbolic gesture.
However, the entire Putellas family accepts your invite out for dinner that same night, even if Alexia insists on paying since they just kicked you out of the Champions League.
âYouâre my guests, Iâm gonna payâ
âVale, Iâm paying next time thenâ, she smiles.
Despite all the analysis and the tactics and the effort the entire Arsenal team and staff put into the game, despite the immense support of the fans who fill the stadium and cheer from the start to the final whistle, you lose.
Tecnichally, you tie. Claudia manages an incredible equaliser in the eightieth minute, crushing your hopes as the harsh law of football enforces the advantage Barça needs to get through the semifinals.
Your former teammates are reluctant to come to you after the game, but you accept gracefully their hands and words of encouragement. The tension none of you realise is there dissipates as soon as Alexia invites you into a group hug, surrounding you in Blaugranaâs colours briefly before you escape with Claudiaâs jersey.
âAs a reminder you could be playing for another Champions League if you stayed?â
âNo, as a reminder to never piss you off againâ
MarĂa is unusually soft in her teasing, letting a few jabs pass by and taking you in her arms when she senses that you need a place to let go of your disappointment without getting caught by the cameras.
âNo te pongas triste, nos veremos prontoâ (Donât be too sad, you will see me again soon)
âDonât you dare ask me to be a bridesmaid or somethingâ
âÂĄA la mierda!â, the defenderâs laugh might be able to fill the now half empty stadium, âPero te necesito para elegir mi trajeâ (But I need you around to pick my outfit).
âYou still donât know what to wear?â
âNecesito buen gusto de verdad, no puedo permitir a mi futura esposa de ayudarmeâ (I need someone with a real fashion sense, itâs not like I can let my future wife help me).
âFrido?â, you try to ask.
âEstĂĄ de su parteâ (Sheâs on Ingrid side)
âAlexia?â
You and MarĂa exchange a knowing look. The Catalan is the most helpful person in most situations, but definitely not the right one for this job.
You bid your goodbye with a promise of a trip back to Barcelona before the end of the season, an away kit in your hand and a plan for dinner with your exâs family.
The atmosphere in the changing room is tense, your teammates are upset about the result and not really in the mood to talk.
âWell, we lost to them and ten days later we tieâ, you manage to draw their attention to you, ânext time we face them weâre gonna winâ
Itâs stupid, itâs a risky attempt to break the ice in the room, but the different and loud reactions you get from all the girls tell you youâre all gonna be fine - even if you have to dodge a pair of boots to prove it.
I hope you found what you left for
~
That day, that loss, somehow and in some twisted way, gives you permission to feel everything you need to feel.
You let yourself be upset about getting kicked out of the Champions League by your former team, but you also let yourself celebrate every single win with your new club. You let yourself feel the bittersweet taste of a second place in the championship, but you lift the FA Cup with the same excitement you lifted every trophy in Barcelona. You let yourself miss your teammates-turned-friends when you go each on your own ways for the off-season, but you also invite them to spend time at your place that feels every day more like home.
Leah is delighted to see more than a faded shadow of who you are, this new version of you every day more present and every day clearer.
âYou know, Keira used to talk you up so much back when you played togetherâ, she says as you try to pack everything you think you need in an oversized luggage.
You will pay the extra tax, better than being unprepared.
âI donât meet the expectation?â
âDefinitely notâ, she ducks just in time to avoid a pair of socks.
âShe described you as this outgoing, always up for a joke person, and we got a moody footballer who barely spoke to us outside of the training centreâ
The English captain is not wrong, the first weeks in London were very challenging both physically and mentally as you tried to adapt to a different style of play and a different view of yourself.
I hope you found what you left for
It took you some time, Leah and all the other girlsâ patience, an overwhelming heart to heart talk with your ex girlfriend, and a devastating loss to reveal the first results of your slow healing process.
âLook at me nowâ
âYeah, I donât have to force myself in here anymore. You even cook for me willinglyâ
âWellââ, youâre not as fast as her when she throws the socks back at you.
Luggage filled and closed, silence spreads in the room when both of you want to address something but you donât want to start a conversation thatâs most likely to make the other uncomfortable.
âLast meal?â
âIâm leaving for a week to Barcelona, not to a war zoneâ
âIn some senseââ
You ignore the blonde, yet go into the kitchen to cook something for the two of you. She offered to help you pack and drive you to the airport tomorrow, the least you can do is feed her one more time before letting her on her own devices.
Alexiaâs comfort meal is what you go for. The ingredients are the only ones available in your fridge, and, honestly, the food looks comforting to you too this time.
âI donât mind this version of youâ
âYouâre such a good friend, Williamson, have I ever told you?â
âSeveral times actuallyâ
You donât think you are the same person you were back in Barcelona, but you donât think that is a bad thing either.
Maybe youâre not as outgoing as you used to be and you donât find yourself involved in all the jokes your friends plan, but youâre letting yourself relax around the people you feel close to and you donât hide your emotions anymore - sad nor happy ones.
Not a shell anymore, you can feel this new version of you growing out and taking down the wall you built around yourself one brick at a time.
You left to find yourself, even if you had no idea where to start your search.
You keep finding some pieces you thought were lost forever, others you never realise werenât with you anymore. Some pieces you drop along the way, others you carefully say goodbye to to be buried deep down. Some new pieces you pick up yourself, and right now, you donât care if they will stay with you forever or just till you need them.
Youâre moving and, wherever youâre heading, youâre finding yourself on the way.
âDo you want to come with me?â
Leahâs reaction to your question caught you off guard, she almost choked on the food sheâs devouring as a famished kid.
âDid you just fucking ask me to be your plus one at a wedding the day before you leave for said wedding?â
âWhat can I say, Iâm known for my perfect timingâ
You hand her a glass of water, knowing sheâs most likely able to see right through you even if your eyes are fixed on the now empty plate.
âAre you scared to go to your friendâs wedding alone?â
âI need a bufferâ
âYou need a bulletproof jacketâ, she really sees right through you.
âYou need a new knee but Iâm not here pointing it out, am I?â
Itâs not like youâre scared to attend MarĂa and Ingridâs wedding alone, and itâs not like you need a comfort blanket to hold on while surrounded by your friends and former teammates and people from your life back in Barcelona.
âLook, Iâm flattered, youâre cute at everything butââ
âEw, no, if you donât shut up right now Iâm going to break your good kneeâ
Leah knows thatâs not the reason why youâre asking her to be your plus one, she just wants to poke at you and get the words out of you.
It takes her a couple of more quips and annoying comments to let you admit the real reason.
âMapi let slip Alexiaâs taking someoneâ
âOh, sweet little Trotter, youâre asking me to make two time Ballon dâOr winner Alexia Putellas jealousââ, she doesnât have the time to end her sentence as you sprint toward her and she has a feeling youâre not joking anymore about kicking her.
~
Leah ends up taking you to the airport the next day, insisting to drop you off as a kid on their first day of school. You have a feeling she doesnât accept your invitation because the short notice doesnât give her the proper amount of time to pick the right outfit, nothing more.
Another English girl picks you up when you land under the barely raised Barcelonaâs sun, you almost feel like they take turns to babysit you.
âKeira, not to sound ungrateful, but I genuinely canât think of anything worse than being your guestâ
âOuch! Do you wanna be left on the side of the road?â
âIâll be fine in my fancy hotel room by myself, reallyâ
âBy yourself, uhm?â
The seatbelt is the only thing preventing you from hitting your head on the dashboard, despite your best effort. Of course they gossip about you. Whatever you tell Leah, you know itâs like you tell Keira too and vice versa. You even found yourself in the middle of one of theyâre gossip sessions once, your life is their favourite topic lately.
Theyâre lucky you can admit you own them your sanity.
âI donât know who sheâs bringingâ
âI didnât askâ, you scoff as if the question isnât on the tip of your tongue for weeks.
Well, youâre gonna find out in a couple of hours anyway.
Keira reluctantly drops you at the hotel youâre staying at, voicing once more you could have stayed with her or any of your other friends who she knows offered their home.
Your former teammates are way nicer with you now theyâre once again Champions League winners.
Maybe itâs also because you stopped hide and actually made an effort to stay in touch.
Both can be true.
Once settled in your room and ready to leave, youâre so anxious one could think youâre the one getting married as you retouch your makeup every five minutes and keep fixing non-existent creases in your maroon strapless dress. Itâs a beautiful tailor-made piece you never found the excuse to wear till now.
Itâs a call from MarĂa herself that stops you from spiralling again about the shape of your eyebrows.
âIf this is a getaway call, you must know I have no car nor intention of helping youâ
âIdiota! DĂłnde estĂĄs?â (Where are you?), she asks with a well hidden note of anxiety in her voice.
âIâm not gonna be late and take the spotlight away from you, donât worryâ
âÂżPuedes venir aquĂ por favor?â (Can you come here, please?)
âMarĂa, Iâm gonna kill youâ, you state, sliding your heels on with one hand and calling the reception to hail a taxi with the other.
You stay with her on the phone the whole ride to the venue, thankfully just ten minutes away since you planned this visit meticulously to avoid any âaccidentâ.
You definitely didnât plan this though.
As you storm into the room your friend tells you to find her, you should have seen it coming.
âIf you need a getaway car or a pep talk, you know Iâm not the right personâ
âÂżNo tienes un discurso para convencerme de casarme?â (You donât have a speech to convince me to get married?)
âYou donât need a speechâ
âAy, no, no lo necesitoâ (No, I donât), she confirmed as you take in the grin and the attire sheâs wearing, âPero tu sĂâ (But you do).
MarĂa is relaxed and ready to walk down the aisle, saying goodbye to who you think is the makeup and hair team. You could have punched her if not out of respect for the incredible job they did. Just then you notice all the people in the room, Alexia in the corner with a sympathetic smile on her perfectly traced lips.
Sheâs stunning.
The long royal blue dress sheâs wearing shows just the right amount of tanned skin, gold jewellery complimenting her features and making Alexia glow in a way you will never forget.
âI told her it was a stupid ideaâ
You must have been frozen in place for a second too much.
âQuiero que te levantes y digas cosas bonitas, Nenaâ (I want you to stand up at some point to tell some nice things)
âJust ask like a fucking normal person, MarĂa!â
âLo hice, dijiste que noâ (I did, you said no)
âSo you made me think you wanted to ditch the whole thing?â
âEstĂĄs aquĂ temprano, Âżno? Tienes tiempo de escribir un buen discursoâ (Youâre here early, arenât you? You have time to write something good)
The relaxing methods your new therapist drilled into you the past weeks better work, youâre really close to making your friend get married with a black eye as payback for the heart attack she got you.
âYouâre so lucky I love youâ, you sigh as the defender kisses your cheek and leads the way out of the room.
Apparently, you better hurry up as your outbursts pushed the schedule five minutes back what itâs supposed to - much to the wedding plannerâs annoyance.
Alexia slows down her pace to walk next to you as you follow the indications given to you.
âFinallyâ
âWhat?â
âI can finally see you in this dressâ, her smile is way too honest for the day youâre both about to go through, âWorth the waitâ.
-
The ceremony is short and sweet. Youâre not sure how MarĂa Pilar LeĂłn manages to stay still for so long, but Ingridâs hand intertwined with hers the entire time must be the main reason.
Thereâs some sort of light surrendering your friends. It may be the stunning yet intimate venue they choose or the Barcelona sun hitting at the perfect moment as they smile at each other. It may be the love you can feel radiating from the couple or the support and genuine excitement all the people in the room are sharing for the occasion.
Whatever it is, youâre happy to be part of it.
MarĂa and Ingrid exchange their vows with tender words and silent promises you know theyâre making to each other. At some point you even have to hold on Fridoâs arm, sit on your left side, as you start to cry big tears that are most definitely ruining your makeup.
Feeling Alexiaâs eyes on you the entire time is not helping.
You have no idea that the wedding photographer is snapping a couple of pictures of you and the other guests in their emotional state, as per Mapiâs request. It surprises you way later when the Spanish defender posts the photo on her socials on your birthday - you block her for a month just to spite her.
When the sun sets and you manage to compose yourself a bit, the party starts and Ingrid takes it upon herself to make you lose your composure, handing you the first drink of the day.
Youâre pretty sure the wedding planner hates you as he finds out youâre not only the reason why arranging seats and tables was so unnecessarily difficult, but he also has to brief you at the last minute about the little moments they planned and when youâre supposed to make your speech.
You know for sure he hates you when you tell him you actually still have to write it down so a delay in the schedule is needed. He leaves you with some paper, pen and cursed words.
It looks like everyone wants to talk to you and you find yourself the centre of attention way more times youâre comfortable with, even more than the newlyweds - much to their amusement.
A lifesaver comes in the form of Lucy Bronze, the buffer you didnât know you needed, but youâre glad is around to help you deal with the Spanish excitement that surrounds you all over.
The English girl, who you now understand is the bonus member of the blonde squad that for some reason hunts you, is acting as your personal bodyguard since Keira is already not sober enough to be helpful.
âPlease, tell me you wrote your speechâ, Lucyâs eyeing your second refill of the day.
Itâs an open bar, after all, youâre not letting MarĂaâs mother warm embrace and some girl you donât remember the name of - but met maybe twice while celebrating a trophyâs win - messing with your mind more than what youâre already doing by yourself.
âI wrote a complaint and a draw of a monkey throwing shitâ
âClassy, I canât wait to see what youâll go forâ
âI told MarĂa fucking Engen-LeĂłn not making me do a fucking speechâ
Pages of scribbled words later, youâre back in Barcelona for your best friendsâ wedding with no speech, no idea of what youâll say and not sober enough to write down anything nice about a certain defender.
âLanguage, por favorâ
You almost drop your glass when you feel Alexiaâs hand on your back to get your attention and a teasing grin on her face. The desire to trace her lips with your finger is stronger now the first drinks are hitting.
âShe can still scold you?â
âYou have no idea the things she can still do to me, Bronzeâ, you mutter as you practically bottom down your drink.
âCan I steal you for a moment?â, she asks with a softer smile.
âIâm pretty sure the words wereââ
Lucy doesnât have time to finish her sentence as both you Alexia hit her without taking your eyes off each other. She gets the hint and leaves with a laugh.
âMy date wants to say hiâ
Youâre pretty sure her words just triggered a malfunction in your already damaged brain. You could have been less shocked if she had asked to marry her right now and there.
âWhat?â
âVien conmigoâ (Just come with me)
Alexia is way too amused for your liking, but you follow her lead without real hesitation - leaving behind your empty glass and probably whatâs left of your sanity.
As the two of you approach the table her family is sitting at, her hand finds a place on your back in a comforting way when you spot Eli, Alba and another tiny brunette you immediately know is about to make you cry.
The kid is too focused on her drawing to notice the two approaching, Alba nudges her, and the little girl retorts back with a hit. As soon as you are spotted, the colourful paper and the annoying woman are both forgotten.
Alexiaâs little cousin, Zoe, comes at you at full speed and youâre able to welcome her into your arms fast enough just thanks to your professional athleteâs reflexes.
You hold on to her green dress as the girl jumps in your arms, too excited to see you again after more than a year to realise sheâs speaking rapidly at you.
âEn espaĂąol, monita, por favorâ, Alexia intercepts.
âÂĄEstĂĄs aquĂ!â (Youâre here)
âYeah, estoy aquĂâ
Alexia canât hold back a laugh as you try to keep up with the little girlâs energy, who is set to tell you everything she has done since the last time she saw you. You were around when Zoe was barely old enough to walk properly.
Four years is a long time when youâre as young as the kid is.
The two of you were a pair who always managed to drive Alexia crazy and fill her heart with love at the same time.
âAle me dijo que ya no vivis juntos, ahora tu juegas para Inglaterraâ (Ale told me you donât live together anymore, you play for England now)
âJuego para un equipo inglĂŠsâ (I play for an english club)
âÂĄEl equipo rojo! PreguntĂŠ Ale tu camisetaâ (The red one! I asked Ale for your jersey)
âÂĄAy, Âżde verdad?!â (Oh, did you really?), you notice Alexiaâs blush immediately, keeping up the teasing thanks to the little girl.
You manage to calm Zoe enough to make her sit back. Sheâs mostly on your legs as the two of you keep talking and taking turns picking colours. All under the watchful sight of Alexia, who was instructed to sit down too by her cousin.
When the draw is finished and signed, you can feel the young mind running. The little frown in the middle of the forehead is a sight youâre way too familiar with.
âQuĂŠ estĂĄ pensando, monita?â (Whatâs on your mind?)
âÂżEstĂĄs de vuelta?â (Youâre back in Barcelona?)
Alexia tries to divert the conversation, sensing her cousin is about to ask or say some things that are way too difficult to explain - despite being such easy questions. However, you smile and nod to let her know you can deal with it.
âHe vuelto para Mapiâs boda y podemos celebrarlo juntosâ (Iâm back for Mapiâs wedding, so we can celebrate together)
âLo sĂŠ, Ale me dijo que estarĂas aquĂ y querĂa saludarteâ (I know, Ale told me you could be back and I wanted to say hi)
âSiento haber desaparecido, intentarĂŠ venir saludar mĂĄsâ (Iâm sorry I disappeared, Iâll try to come say hi more when I can)
âÂżPrometes?â (You promise?), Zoe holds up a tiny finger, mimicking a gesture you taught her years ago.
You wrap your pinky around hers firmly, shaking it three times. Itâs another promise youâre not going to break.
âTienes que prometerlo a Ale tambiĂŠn, ella te echa de menosâ (You have to promise Ale too, she miss you)
âLo sĂŠâ (I know)
The way Zoe is tracing coloured lines around her drawing is a tell that she still has a lot of questions for you, probably not satisfied enough with the answers she got from Alexia.
The pair of you spent a lot of time with the kid as you always encouraged the Catalan to spend as much time as possible with her extended family too, knowing it pained her to have a little cousin who looks up at her with such admiration but not actually seeing her much.
Also, babysitting Zoe was so fun for you and an excuse to tease Alexia in so many ways you took the chance on any possible occasion.
âÂżAĂşn la amas?â (You still love her?)
The chair youâre sitting in is strong enough to keep you still even if the entire room is spiralling, and youâre pretty sure thereâs a huge hole under your expensive heels. You caught Alexiaâs panicked face out of the corner of your eye too.
It takes you a moment, but when you answer Zoeâs question youâre the most sure you have ever been in the past year or so.
âSiempre la amarĂŠâ (Iâll always love her)
~
Ironically enough, the wedding planner is the one saving you from yourself and the innocent questioning of a kid.
You stand in your designated spot with a microphone in one hand and a piece of paper in the other - blank if not for the doodles you let Zoe draw on it. You will play the part, props at all.
There may be no speech planned or intention to do one in the first place, but you know what to talk about when talking about love.
After a short introduction of who you are - even if almost everyone knows you for some reason or other - and a couple of football related jokes, you manage to buy yourself enough time to find a pair of soft eyes in the crowd.
You saw MarĂa and Ingrid growing a supportive and caring relationship, you know both of them enough to describe how wonderful their love is and even landing some good jokes on Mapiâs expenses.
You know how being in love feels like enough to get some people emotional, you know how being loved feels like enough to make some other cry.
âFinally, I would like to propose a toastâ, you raise your glass and wink at the wedding planner - he may have had a heart attack during a questionable part of your speech, but you definitely saw him shed a tear or two at the end.
âTo Ingrid, who is one of the thoughtful human beings I have the honour to look up to in my life. You donât even need words to let people understand your love for them, itâs the most important thing you taught us and the one Iâll try the most to remember when my mind and my mouth will fighting against each otherâ
The Norwegian woman looks at you with a warm smile as she raises her own glass, reaching for her wifeâs hand.
âTo MarĂa, who is one of the most annoying human beings I have the privilege to call family. You taught us that everyone deserves to be respected and taken care of, that you donât even need to know someone to make them feel welcome. Iâll never forget you proved it to me the very first day we met, and Iâll keep trying to grant myself the same care you unconditionally show meâ
Your friend is crying as you smile at her, trying to let her understand how much you appreciate everything she did and does for you, how much you appreciate her firm support despite her opinion on your choices.
âTo everyone here, who is witnessing a celebration of love thatâs never going to fade as weâll keep it aliveâ
Alexiaâs eyes on you make you believe your own words more than anything else.
~
As the night progresses, most of the guests are gone. The ones still standing are the closest to the couple and the ones who managed to take the most advantage of the open bar.
Youâre obviously among those.
The break from dancing you treat yourself with is filled with rapid words from Ona, Lucy, Aitana and Keira, all engaged in a conversation about your performance at Arsenal and how you can do better next season.
Itâs not really talk shop as theyâre making fun of you and the unfortunate episode that saw you tripping on the ball while attempting a quite impressive shot outside the box.
You found your footing and the back of the net shortly after, so their amusing is quite frankly unnecessary if you can say yourself.
âMary let that ball pass âcause she was laughing so much, thatâs allâ
âFuck you, Bronze!â
âSheâs right, I saved the video and I watch it every time I miss youâ
âYouâre worse than Mapiâ, you donât dignify Keira with an answer as you leave the group to refill your drink.
âLo siento en mi corazĂłn cuando hablas de miâ (I can feel in my heart when youâre talking about me)
Out of nowhere, MarĂa appears in front of you, and as the magician she apparently is tonight, it makes your glass disappear, all while dragging you toward the bubble of loud dancing guests.
You could be mad at her if not for the genuine laughs that are surrounding you, making you miss those girls but convincing you to enjoy this occasion even more.
âGracias por hoy, Nenaâ (Thank you for today)
âEstoy tan feliz por tiâ (Iâm so happy for you)
You donât know if itâs the alcohol, the beautiful day youâre having or the fact your best friends just got married and you couldnât be happier for them, but you sense this is an emotional moment for the two of you.
The Spaniard holds you in her arms firmly, whispering barely loud enough for you to hear, âI want you to be happy tooâ
âIâm getting thereâ
The moment ends when the soft smiles on both your faces turn into grins and then open laughs as you start getting loose around all your friends.
You accept Janaâs hand gracefully as she drags you between her and Claudia, the two dancing as no one is watching and taking you down in a mindless movement of arms and hair.
âStill no rhythm at allâ
Youâre sure youâre drunk enough to imagine Alexiaâs hands on your waist as she gets closer to make fun of you.
To be fair, out of the two of you, the Catalan is the one with the worst moves. She is just lucky to be incredibly sexy as she dances.
âYou were sober enough to remember that night out after our first Champions Leagueâ
âÂĄAjĂĄ, cĂĄllate! Someone tripped meâ
âYeah, your own feetâ
The music is loud and the bodies around move in a way that you have to stay basically pressed on her to keep the teasing conversation going.
At least thatâs what you tell yourself as you grip her arm to let a carefree laugh out.
âYou were sober enough to kiss me that same night, what does that say about you?â
âThat I have the worst timing ever!â
You mean nothing but the truth, Alexia knows and she keeps you close despite your friends trying to involve you in a group dance - the two of you too wrapped in your own bubble to notice.
Keira does though and she openly calls you out on your behaviour, reminding you this may not be the best time or place to dance with your ex girlfriend as this is your own wedding.
~
The party slows down late in the evening, the last guests bidding their goodbyes and congratulating the happy couple once again.
Youâre next to MarĂa as she hugs Alba - Eli and Zoe declared the night over a while ago. The defenderâs hair is messed up, and a thin sheet of sweat from the dancing and the emotion of the day is covering her forehead. She never looked better.
âWhen are you leaving?â, the younger girl asks when is your turn to hug her.
âIâll stay for a couple of days, I planned the off-season under the Italian sunâ
âÂĄVale!, you can come at dinner one of thoseâ
âIâll see what I can doâ, you smile as you lightly push Alba and her knowing smirk away.
When you admit the day is officially over for you too, MarĂa and Ingrid both wrap you in a tight embrace to shower you with kisses and rapid words of gratitude in three different languages youâre way too tired to even try to understand.
At least you can tell theyâre happy about your speech.
âI can take you to your hotelâ
âYou keep offering me rides, you sure youâre not thinking of a career change?â
âI donât see myself getting a taxi license anytime soonâ, Alexiaâs attempt at a serious tone is making you giggle way too much for such a simple joke.
The walk toward her car is a silent one and it doesnât turn uncomfortable when you get cosy in the passenger seat, taking your heels off with a sigh of relief.
The Catalan smiles as she remembers you tend to drop your manners when happily exhausted.
You look at her changing her shoes, a pair of sneakers always in the car for a safe ride, and you keep your eyes on her as she connects her phone to select a playlist.
Itâs a ten minute ride at best, but she has not asked where youâre staying, and youâre too curious to find out what sheâs planning to point it out.
Youâre content and tired enough to admit every minute more you get to spend with Alexia is a win in your book.
Sheâs the one breaking the silence, turning the volume down a bit and keeping her gaze on the street even if the traffic light in front of you is glowing her features bright red.
âI hope I didnât make you uncomfortable with Zoeâ
âI was happy to see her again, sheâs getting so tallâ
âYeahâ
âLo sientoâ (Iâm sorry)
Leaving Barcelona meant leaving Alexia, but it was your choice.
And it was your choice to leave every single one who reminds you of her too. Ignoring your friends and finding excuses to not face the consequences of your disappearing. Avoiding Eli and Albaâs calls, too ashamed of the pain you inflicted on the most important person in their life.
It was all your choice.
âWe broke up, I didnât expect you to keep in touch with my familyâ
âYou didnât expect me to break up with you in the first placeâ
Alexia turns to look at you for the first time since the ride started, no one behind you calling out to move as the light turns from red to green to red again.
âI can be held accountable for my own choices, Alexiaâ, you nod at her as she restarts the car to a still unknown destination.
âI was honest with Zoeâ
âLo sĂŠâ
âTĂş eres mi corazĂłn, te amarĂŠ por siempreâ (Youâre my heart, I will always love you)
âLo sĂŠâ
A full moon high in the dark sky, the view from your windows is getting unfamiliar, but the woman next to you seems to know exactly where sheâs going. The pace sheâs keeping is slow enough to calm your nerves but fast enough to keep you awake.
There are so many things you want to say, so many useless apologies and unnecessary confessions on the tip of your tongue.
It could be so much easier if sheâd hate you.
âI knew you would leaveâ
âWhat?â
âI knew you would leave, I knew you found the ringâ
Her words manage to steal the breath from your lungs and stop the rhythm of your heart, you go from feeling nothing to everything in a split second. The music is suddenly too loud, the fancy car is crushing on you, and your own body is failing to respond to your commands.
Alexia immediately notices your distress, stopping on the side of the road and lowering your window to let the fresh night air hit your face. She wants to touch you, to ground you as she learned to do, but sheâs aware she may make things worse.
You reach for her hand, holding on to her as a lifeline and she does everything she needs to to take you back.
âSorry, I didnât see that comingâ, you say when youâre ready to think properly again, your attempt to joke landing just because Alexia knows you well enough to understand what you need right now.
âYoââ
âWhy didnât you say anything?â
âÂżPor quĂŠ no lo hiciste tĂş?â (Why didnât you?)
The million dollar question, why didnât you say anything? Why didnât you let her know? Why didnât you just talk with her about your feelings and your fears?
You pay your therapist enough to answer those questions for you.
âI donât think it could have changed anythingâ
âYou couldnât knowâ
âAnd Iâll never, itâs all done nowâ
You need her to hate you, you need her to hate you and not want to do anything with you ever again.
You need her to leave you.
Not like you left Barcelona, you need her to leave you behind and move on. Itâd be so much easier.
Instead, youâre both moving on and you both are still moving in the same direction.
âYou would have said sĂâ, itâs not a question.
âOf courseâ
You realise youâre still holding on to her just when the Catalan squeezes your hand three times, keeping you grounded and keeping herself together. Your confirmation is both unnecessary and needed, hurting and comforting.
âI want you to love yourself as much as I doâ
âIâm tryingâ
Itâs a whisper, itâs a confession youâre not sure youâre ready to hear yourself.
âIâll be here when youâre readyâ
âAlexia, noââ
âSĂâ, she drops your hand just to firmly hold your face, guiding your gaze and your tears filled eyes on hers, âIâll be here when youâre ready, here in Barcelona or wherever here will mean for usâ
âI canât ask you thatâ
âYouâre not askingâ
Tears are falling freely now, her thumb tracing your flushed cheeks and your fists holding desperately on her dress. The position you both are in is uncomfortable, the air from the open window tickles your neck, and Alexiaâs honesty is crushing your heart, but you never felt better.
âI know you could do whatever I ask, stay in Barcelona or marry me. I need you to know I could do whatever you ask tooâ
âThen weâre stuckâ
âNo, weâre both movingâ
âYou wanna see where we end up?â
âWherever it will be, weâll find each otherâ

i literally spend at least 2 hours a week just looking at various pictures of the terracotta army. utterly entranced. look at the details in the hair. you'd never see ANY of this when they're lined up in formation, but they're there. Â
theres about 8000 of these guys down there, no two faces are alike. they're works of art. they're the manifestation of a cruel despot's delusions of grandeur. a talisman against the terrible inevitability of death, both pathetic and strangely pitiful. like watching a child clinging to his blanket, begging you not to turn off the light. they were a bunch of insignificant clay statues from a side chamber that was so small and unremarkable, no one bothered to write down the location. they were modelled after real people. their only purpose was to serve qin shi huang in the afterlife, so he could reign in heaven as he did on earth. now the emperor is just a ghost and his pawns are immortal. my dad and i visited them in the dead of winter, on a weekday, just so we wouldn't have to deal with tourists like us. the place had easily 500 people--not including the ones below ground. we traveled to xian via the old "green skin" diesel train. there are faster means, like highspeed rail but dad insisted i try the authentic way, the same way he would have traveled when he was my age it was also like, a quarter of the price but im sure that had nothing to do with it! back in the 80s carriages would get so packed people had to have their luggage passed in via the windows. as we chugged along, i read my book and my dad made us cup noodles. car is just a shortened version of "carriage", the word is the same but the mechanism is different. it's the same in chinese. i think if i told someone from the warring states period i could travel from the Kingdom of Qi to Qin in just four hours with my metal carriage, i'd be laughed out of town--or accused of being a spy and sentenced to 'death by carriage.' we hopped off the train at 4am and took a different "carriage." the taxi driver joked; "basically every dynasty put their capital in xian, stick a shovel anywhere and you'll turn up some national treasure or another." i wonder what it would have felt like to be a farmer digging a well and then out pops a remarkably realistic human head. statistical analysis show the soldier's faces bear a strong similarity to people living in the region today. the taxi stopped in front of a jewellery-hawking tourist trap and refused budge an inch until we went inside. did you know the terracotta soldiers were originally multi-coloured and painfully gaudy, just like the greek marbles? they were made assembly-line style. the arms and legs were made from the same workshops that made clay plumbing pipes and roof tiles. for quality control, the artisans were required to stamp their names. the workers who built these tombs were executed shortly afterwards, because only dead men can be trusted with secrets. qin shi huang's mausoleum is unlikely to be excavated in my father's lifetime, or mine, not unless i'm willing to take a BIG ONE for the team... instead of the tomb, they built some kind of qin shi huang-themed theme park next to it. not only was it tacky as hell the entrance fee was like $50. we went to the museum and i looked at bronze tools and pottery shards for three hours. look why can't we just crack the thing open i can't be the only one here whos dying from curiosity what if we all just took turns digging

the ratgrinders' potential levels
cannot believe i was right about the xp reqs. the bad kids & the seven get 'special treatment' (milestone leveling and saving the world), while others have to work with xp. which tells you a lot about why people fled during prompocalypse.
ok getting into the algebra now: the rat grinders have gone into the far haven woods every day for the last two years, for 3 hours after school, and 9 hours/day on weekends. presumably they keep this up during the summer.
they have supposedly defeated 80,000 or more of three types of creatures: rats, spiders, and twig blights. there are some variations to what these could be, so here's a list of what this could encompass, assuming the ratgrinders are not facing creatures over CR 1.
giant rat: CR 1/8, 25 XP
swarm of rats: CR 1/4, 50 XP
giant wolf spider: CR 1/8, 25 XP
swarm of spiders: CR 1/2, 100 XP
giant flying spider: CR 1, 200 XP
giant spider: CR 1, 200 XP
ice spider: CR 1, 200 XP
twig blight: CR 1/8, 25 XP
needle blight: CR 1/4, 50 XP
thorn slinger: CR 1/2, 100 XP
vine blight: CR 1/2, 100 XP
razorvine blight: CR 1, 200 XP
thorny: CR 1: 200 XP
the full list is a little difficult to do calculations on, so let's condense it. assume a quarter of the 80000 creatures were CR 1/8, a quarter were CR 1/4, so on and so forth.
how much xp would they earn? how much would they level for the amount they ground? grinded? for?
critical assumption here: in the games i've played, we've always done milestone or zeroed out xp with each level, i.e. after earning 300 xp to get to level 2, you have to earn 900 xp to get to level 3, not 600. this analysis assumes that you have to earn the next levels xp reqs on top of your current total. i'm including the xp chart here to clarify:
level 1: 0 XP, +2, total 0 XP
level 2: 300 XP, +2, total 300 XP
level 3: 900 XP, +2, total 1200 XP
level 4: 2700 XP, +2, total 3900 XP
level 5: 6500 XP, +3, total 10400 XP
level 6: 14000 XP, +3, total 24400 XP
level 7: 23000 XP, +3, total 47400 XP
level 8: 34000 XP, +3, total 81400 XP
level 9: 48000 XP, +4, total 129400 XP
level 10: 64000 XP, +4, total 193400 XP
level 11: 85000 XP, +4, total 278400 XP
level 12: 100000 XP, +4, total 378400 XP
level 13: 120000 XP, +5, total 498400 XP
level 14: 140000 XP, +5, total 638400 XP
level 15: 165000 XP, +5, total 803400 XP
level 16: 195000 XP, +5, total 998400 XP
level 17: 225000 XP, +6, total 1223400 XP
level 18: 265000 XP, +6, total 1488400 XP
level 19: 305000 XP, +6, total 1793400 XP
level 20: 355000 XP, +6, total 2148400 XP
if we went cumulatively, based on the number of creatures the bad kids have defeated, they'd be getting up there in xp. we know they've had opportunities to defeat creatures outside of the quests that we've seen, given the oneshots. thus, i'm going with the second explanation, because otherwise the ratgrinders would be 19th level, and i don't think they are, because it would make any pvp setups super unbalanced, which are neither fun to play nor watch. this puts them on a little more even ground and emphasizes the amount of work it takes to xp grind to level against milestone leveling.
for the CR 1/8s: assuming roughly 20,000 creatures, they'd get 25 XP per, which means 500,000 xp. that's cumulatively enough to get to level 13, on just those creatures. divided 6 ways, assuming the ratgrinders have 6 members, it's 83,333.33, which is enough to get you to 10th level cumulatively and 8th non cumulatively.
this scales up to the 1/4s, 1/2s and the 1s since the xp gains double for each challenge rating rather than plateauing as they do at higher levels.
for the CR 1/4s: 1,000,000 xp. that's cumulatively enough to get to level 16 on just those creatures. divided 6 ways, assuming the ratgrinders have 6 members, it's 166,666.66, which is enough to get you to 15th level cumulatively and 9th non cumulatively.
for the CR 1/2s: 2,000,000 xp. divided 6 ways, assuming the ratgrinders have 6 members, it's 333,333.33, which is enough to get you to 19th level cumulatively, and 11th level non cumulatively.
and for the 1s, 4,000,000 xp. well over what you'd need to get to level 20, on just the CR 1s. divided 6 ways, assuming the ratgrinders have 6 members, it's 666,666.66, which is well over 20th level cumulatively, and 14th level non cumulatively.
using this estimate and adding all of this up, each member of the ratgrinders would have gathered enough xp to be level 20 cumulatively, and level 17 non cumulatively.
obviously the actual numbers would scale differently; initially, they would likely have to tackle these creatures as a party, but over time would take care of them individually. this is a bunch of kids doing the intro to class assignment for every assignment for two years straight.
level 20 seems extreme for the aguefort adventuring academy; let's scale it down a bit. the creatures specifically mentioned are probably giant rats, giant wolf spiders, and twig blights, based on the descriptions from jawbone.
all of these are CR 1/8, or 25 XP each. 80000 would give an xp total of 2,000,000, which would put each of the ratgrinders at around 11th level, a little higher level than the bad kids at the moment. however, since their fighting prowess scaled up, and they're probably going out in elmville and actively hindering the bad kids in some way, that level is very likely to increase.
what we saw in the episode
now the sticking point is mary ann rolling a 35. we know she got some kind of transmutation buff. a little tricky wording from brennan; fabian had enhance ability on, which is a transmutation spell. he did not say it was enhance ability.
mary ann is a barbarian, so she already gets advantage on athletics if she's raging, which i assume she was. the buff probably wouldn't be something that grants advantage.
assuming the lower estimate of 11th level, mary ann would get a +4 proficiency bonus, and i'm assuming she has 20 in strength, so +5 to her strength based skills, for a total of +9. at the high estimate of level 17, she would have a +6 to her proficiency bonus, which would give her a total of +11 to athletics. this is still not high enough to get a 35, even on a nat 20, which brennan would have declared if he had rolled one. she could conceivably accomplish this with the brawny feat, which allows for expertise in the athletics skill, which would give her a +17, meaning she could hit a 35 on a 18.
or, the buff was something like skill empowerment, which is a 5th level transmutation spell that gives the target expertise in a skill that they already have proficiency in. this spell is available to bards and wizards, among other classes, both of which we presume are in the ratgrinders. ruben could have cast skill empowerment on mary ann and given her bardic inspiration (lower estimate: d10, higher estimate: d12), both of which would have enabled that 35.
judging by the implication that she could not accomplish that feat without some kind of buff, i'm going with the latter explanation.
anyway i did too much math for this to not go in the stats series, or the school series. so this will be added to the spreadsheet later.
i hope this is useful.

15.11.2024
Happy Friday everyone!
I am completely dead. I had to start lab work at 6:45am today and I will be running my analysis until probably around 8pm or 9pm, so I'm basically surviving on coffee at this point. Buuuuut fortunately it is giving me plenty of time to work on my upgrade report, for which I have written about a quarter of the introduction so far. Considering I started writing it yesterday and already know exactly where I want to go with it, I think that's pretty good. I'm hoping I can have something resembling a first draft by the end of next week, and then with a bit of luck one of the post docs in my group will agree to read through it.
Other than that nothing much has happened. I've been quite busy but I've done almost everything I wanted to do this week, which I'm super happy about. I'm still not feeling 100%, but at least I am feeling more consistently motivated. I had a meeting with both my supervisors today for the first time in a while and it was also good to be able to discuss what I've been working on and plan with them what I will be doing in the next few months. I think it allowed me a moment to consider everything I've done in the last year and kind of centre myself again. After feeling like I've been spinning out of control for so long, that's also a big relief. Overall, I'm doing a lot better mentally than I have been in the last few weeks, and I'm looking forward to the weeks of hard work that are coming my way.
My boyfriend will be out of the apartment this weekend, and while it would do me some good to rest on Saturday I'm really tempted to take myself out on a solo date. I've been meaning to go to a modern art museum, and considering I have to run some errands anyway maybe I could kill two birds with one stone. We will see what happens, but it kind of all boils down to my energy levels at the end of the day. Plus, I'm starting to play dungeons and dragons with my friends again on Sunday, so I have to consider that this won't be a rest day either! Still, I'm looking forward to a hopefully relaxing time.
I hope everyone has a great weekend! Please take care of yourselves and take some time to reset.

The First Soldier: Chapter Six
Japanese highlights + analysis
Hi guys! Okay, letâs look right into this chapter-
Opening with Team Glenn, we learn some small details. The Shinra dig will start soon, and Glenn marvels at how fast everything is moving. Matt credits Shinra power, Glenn credits their hard work as a team, and Lucia credits Sephiroth, who did most of the work. Glenn, being more humble now, admits that he cannot deny it, and remembers that he must tell Sephiroth about the payment.
However, he notes that Sephiroth does not seem interested in money. This is one of the first hints throughout this chapter that Team Glenn still do not fully understand what Sephiroth is to Shinra. It is a subtle but reoccurring pattern, particularly when the notion of âbeing firedâ comes into play later on.
The English in this scene was good. No major changes.
The chief engineer calls the team over and reprimands them for being too relaxed, saying that they need to do their jobs and clear out the monsters near the living quarters. Glenn awkwardly agrees to get back to patrolling, but first he asks,
âHey, have you seen our squad leader?â
The engineer responds,
âIf you mean that kid, isnât he still out looking through the bodies? Itâs disgusting. Please make him stop.â
Glenn is surprised and says, âSephiroth is rummaging through the corpses?â
Matt notes that Sephiroth does often disappear/go off on his own, and Lucia says to look for him on their patrol.
(Seeing how the other Shinra employees behave and speak helped me see why Sephiroth had no luck asking around about his mother. They are only there to do their jobs, and donât understand the child SOLDIER at all. It is very much an indifferent workforce).
Next is the scene where we learn about the materia fragments that were shattered over time. This scene adds greater weight to the mako spring discussion in the Nibelheim flashback, where Sephiroth comments that the condensed formation must have taken ages. It takes a very long time for even small bits to form, and even then they can shatter.
There is the silly bit of banter between the team about using diversion pebbles/materia fragments, but I must note again that Glenn seems calmer and less cocky even in his jesting.
Then Lucia becomes visibly concerned and says,
âLooking through corpsesâŚI wonder if heâs really doing thatâŚâ
Glenn responds,
âThe chief engineer is just joking around right? Thereâs no way he (Sephiroth) would do something like that.â
Matt agrees that there would be no need for it, and the team moves forward.
(It is very wholesome to see them believe only the best of Sephiroth despite what others think, and they are more perceptive and accurate about him anyway. This story constantly leads the audience to worry that Sephiroth always held darker traits before immediately disproving these concerns or at least showing that his reasons were always understandable. Team Glenn speaks for the more optimistic viewers at this point).
Of course little Sephiroth is caught undeniably searching a body, and Glenn questions him in surprise. Sephiroth is confused at first, but then acknowledges that it does look wrong. Lucia asks him if he is looking for something. Sephiroth says,
âI lost the pendant with my mother's photo in it.. . . . . .I was looking for it. I was checking to see if someone might have picked it up and had it on themâŚâ
(So, a small translation nuance; it is clear in Japanese that Sephiroth dropped it and believed that someone could have picked it up. He is not just looking under bodies, he is going through their pockets and all to see if anyone has it with them.)
Sephiroth chuckles and admits,
âHaha, I suppose I am a corpse-scavengerâŚâ
(This is another case of Sephirothâs childlike innocence mingling with his very dark reality. He lost his most precious possession like a normal child would, but now has to search for it among the dead that he himself laid to waste).
When the others understand, Glenn says,
âAlright, letâs look for it while we kill monsters.â
And Sephiroth replies,
âThank you very muchâŚthat helpsâŚâ
The team moves on to kill monsters and search.
Glenn notes the lesser number of bodies and Sephiroth points out that it was because of the monsters. Glenn shudders to think of dying in the area, but Sephiroth takes the opportunity to beseech them to not let their guard down. He says,
âYou all seem to be feeling a little relaxed. You can never be too careful. You must protect yourself. If you don't apply this basic rule...â
Right then a monster swoops in and Sephiroth kills it, stunning the others. He concludes with, ââŚthen even I canât protect you.â
Glenn asks, âSo, youâre protecting us?â
Sephiroth walks up to him and responds,
âItâs because youâre my team.â
They are interrupted by more monsters, but when the fighting ends, Matt repeats what Sephiroth said.
âIâll protect you because youâre my teamâŚâ
Matt glares at Glenn and says,
âIâd like to hear that from a team-leader I know who previously threatened to hit one of his own squad membersâŚâ
Lucia chimes in with the comment about that same team-leader making them be near his gross socks.
(They are both referencing the first chapter of the game, where Glennâs outburst on the helicopter made it appear as though he were going to punch Matt, and when Glenn made a joke about his socks being so bad that they would pull Lucia out of shell-shock).
Sephiroth looks up at Glenn while shaking his head and laughs, saying,
âHaâŚthatâs the worst.â
Glenn remarks,
âBut itâs âmemorable,â isnât it?â
Sephiroth thinks for a moment and says,
âYes, I see. So, that team-leader fears being forgottenâŚâ
This observation strikes Matt and even Glenn. They appear to rethink Glennâs leadership style. Glenn does not protest the observation, but he ponders it.
(I found it sweet that Sephiroth did not judge Glenn, but pointed out what is likely a true insecurity of Glennâs, but in a very mild and childlike way. Part of me even wonders if Sephiroth understood the fear because he too had struggled with it. After all, adult Sephiroth refused to be a memory even post-insanity.)
(Also, it is hard to fully explain, but reading this text in Japaneseit becomes easier to see how it is not just Glenn that influences Sephiroth, but also the other way around. Itâs strange butâŚit feels as though Glenn has becomeâŚsofter? Even when alone with his team, he is not disrespecting them so much or being so brash. It was his meeting with Rosen that helped him to develop sympathy for the âenemyâ and it was Sephiroth that helped Glenn become kinder to his team. Even the way he speaks seems gentler.Â
In the last chapter, Glenn was so harsh towards Seph at the beginning, but learned remorse and how to apologize when Sephirothâs vulnerability was showcased. In this chapter, Sephiroth is the one to understand that Glenn might have been such a brash leader because he feared being forgotten, which was a very perceptive and empathetic observation, causing even Matt to reconsider. It was a very heart-warming scene).Â
(The next sequence is devastating and I believe it caused some minor controversy with fans because of how Glenn speaks, but I can affirm that the tone in Japanese seems to aim for sympathetic character development. As I mentioned before, Glenn is different to the character we first met, and his arc is becoming more clear as we move forward.)
As the squad looks through the bodies, Glenn notices that there were not many Rhadoran remnants left, and Matt suspects it was because of their living conditions and the endless battle with monsters. Glenn remarks that it must have been a hard lifestyle. He then says,
â...I don't really understand why Rhadore hated the Mako reactorsâŚI mean, there's no such thing as convenient (as the reactors), right?â
They are swiftly interrupted again by monsters, causing Sephiroth to say that they seem more interested than usual.
âThe monsters seem more interested than usual.â
âTheyâre excited about live bait!â Glenn says.
âIf you want to be bait, I won't stop you, but as a SOLDIER, please fight first.â Sephiroth urges.
When they clear out the area again, Matt considers the similarities between the Rhadoran believes and âPlanetologyâ or the âstudy of the star.â
âWhen a person dies, their life returns to the planet with their consciousness and heart and intersects with the energy of life circulating around the planet. The idea is that a new life will eventually be born from it. The life around this planet is what they call âqiâ (mana). The âqiâ going around the planet enriches people and nature and the planet itself. It would be unthinkable for Rhadore to consume such an irreplaceable energy.â
Glenn is still confused, and then Sephiroth interjects with,
âDr. Hojo talked to me about thisâŚ
âNo matter how rationally and logically we explain things, there are people we will not be able to share understanding with. That is because they see the world differently.ââ
Glenn argues that such things wonât matter if someone dies, and that it would just be better to accept an easy life instead of fighting so hard against it. He points out that Rosen is the only one left, and says that if the Rhadoran beliefs are true, what will become of the last Rhadoran boy when he dies? When he is gone, no one will be left, and people will forget Rhadore.
Sephiroth sadly shakes his head and turns away, saying that,
âThe planet remembersâŚI am certain that is what the people of Rhadore believeâŚâ
Glenn receives his epiphany, and understands that the Rhadorans resisted the consumption of mana/mako because it would erase all memories of life. He is suddenly overcome with sadness and turns to kneel and honor the fallen soldiers. The others do the same.
(This scene was, in my opinion, intended to deliver a strong message, but was maybe limited by the story-telling style. Some people were shocked by Glennâs questioning why the Rhadorans all died for their beliefs when he is with the very company that wiped them out. But I think it does help to remember that this war between Shinra and Wutai was something that soldiers like Glenn and his team only had seen one side of until this point. They were a survey team working for money after all, not the ones directly sent to kill the Rhadorans until Sephiroth arrived, who did most of the work anyway, and even shocked the others with his conditioned ruthlessness in the previous chapter.
Shinra is a propaganda monster, and undoubtedly played off the war as something the Wutaians started and were responsible for, as well as the Rhadorans. It does sound like Glenn is genuinely confused here, especially as someone who was probably used to Shinra being the default government for everything.
âWhy would these people willingly die and fight Shinra for trying to make their lives easier?â
But that is the simple darkness of imperialism. Shinra was going to erase something very important to the Rhadorans for the sake of âconvenience.â
Glenn only sees this after Sephiroth himself acknowledges the Rhadoran faith. This is where a change of heart occurs. The Rhadorans were fighting for a genuine reason. Of course they were.
I actually felt this was a very meaningful sequence after translating it. Very good attempt at addressing imperialist destruction.)
Afterwards, they keep up the search and Matt asks if Sephiroth is sure he dropped the necklace in the building they are in. He says he had it before the ruins, so he is sure it must have been in the building. Lucia explains that it might be difficult to find if they havenât already. Sephiroth tiredly shakes his head and says,
âItâs okay. Thanks to everyone for looking together, I think Iâm about ready to give it up.â
He is saying that since everyone looked at the same time, he is ready to accept that he has to let the photo go. If they canât find it together, then it is truly lost. The others become downcast on his behalf, and then Glenn moves over to one of the dead soldiers. He suggests they bury them as a way to say sorry, though he is not sure if that is their custom. Either way, Sephiroth immediately says that he will help, and Glenn is grateful.
The next scene was clearly translated into English. As they bury the bodies, the dig begins and Sephiroth explains that they will need to evacuate to the sky in thirty minutes, thanks to a possible mako eruption or âtorrent of qiâ caused by Shinraâs explosives. Glenn remembers Rosenâs words, and Sephiroth says they need to hurry.
The following sequence is endearing as Sephiroth makes shortcuts for the team. He reveals a unique power that allows him to create great bursts of energy from simple materia fragments. The others are stunned. Glenn, in particular, cannot believe it even after Sephiroth explains. He says,
âNo, itâs impossible! Sephiroth, youâre amazing!!â
In the next scene, Glenn is initially ready to chop down a tree to form a bridge across a river, but Sephiroth steps in and says his way will be quicker. Where before, Glenn would have been eager to lead the way, he kindly steps aside and lets Sephiroth take over. Glenn is once again verbally supportive, and says,
âHa! As expected.â
Sephiroth says,
âAs expected of a modified human (cyborg), right?â
Glenn says wasnât going to say that, nor was he thinking it. Sephiroth says,
âReally?âŚ.Iâm a little disappointedâŚâ
Glenn is confused and Sephiroth shakes his head,
âI donât really understand it myselfâŚâ
Bringing his head low and his hand to his heart again, he guesses,
âItâs justâŚnothing you guys say makes me feel bad, so I want you to be able to say anythingâŚâ
(The English got the point across as well, but Seph is sincerely saying that he trusts them because they donât say things that hurt him, so he doesnât want them to feel as if they need to hold back their thoughts. He is pointing out that he has grown to feel safe with them because they are not malicious with their words. It feels like he discovers the idea of trust in relationships right here).
Glenn perks up and says,
âAlright then, Iâll tell you what I think!! Iâm counting on you, squad-leader! Now, letâs go!â
Sephiroth enthusiastically responds with âYes!â and they move on.
The waterfall scene is largely the same. Glenn fully goes to Sephiroth to lead this time and hands him the materia fragment. He asks if Sephiroth can use it like before, and in Japanese, Sephiroth endearingly says he doesnât want to âmake things go boomâ but that he has an idea. He freezes the waterfall and Glenn voices his praise again.
When they finally draw close, Glenn stops to think of Rosen, but Sephiroth urges him to hurry. When they get to the overlook, it becomes clear that Glenn and the others are struggling with remorse over the Rhadorans and Rosen being in danger. They exchange glances and Glenn almost says something to Sephiroth, but stops himself.
Sephiroth himself is far more concerned about them, his team, and their safety. The divide is obvious, and a choice will have to be made.
They arrive as the last ones to the Shinra helicopter and the engineer is ready for them to evacuate, but Glenn begs the man to delay the dig so that he can go and warn Rosen, thus setting his plans in motion without forewarning Sephiroth. The engineer refuses despite Glennâs pleas and brings up the amount of money Shinra has put into the program. Glenn shouts,
âThis isnât about the money!â
And punches the engineer, much to Matt and Luciaâs exasperation.
The engineer says,
âI'll report you to headquarters! I can even have you fired.â
Glenn does not care. It is the first time we have seen him willingly dismiss money and fight for something else. He tells the engineer to get on the other helicopter, and Matt tells Lucia to make her decision. She apologizes to Sephiroth and hi-jacks the copter. Sephiroth simply turns his back quietly.
The final Stamp battle occurs afterwards as an interruption, and the team finishes the job, with more remorse from Glenn about messing with Stampâs island. Then the engineer flies overhead and drops down the ladder, offering one more chance. Lucia says,
âWill Sephiroth also be disposed of?â
Matt reminds her,
âItâs okay, weâre the only ones at fault. There are witness too.â
With this, the team says goodbye to their leader, and Glenn tells him,
âSephiroth, take care! Donât overdo it/push yourself too much!â
They run off, leaving Sephiroth to evacuate, but he hesitates. The engineer shouts,
âHurry up and get on, hero!â
But our hero canât leave his friends just yet!
He runs up to them and Glenn is surprised. He says,
âYou cameâŚâŚ.are you sure? If you get on this helicopter, you could get fired, right?â
And the chapter ends with Sephirothâs simple reply,
âIâm special.â
Glenn just laughs.
â
This appears to be a direct reference to Sephirothâs future statement about always knowing he was special or different since he was a child.
The word is the same.
âExceptional, unique, beyond ordinaryâŚâ
But this line from Sephiroth is actually more upsetting to me than funny or cocky, because yes, there is indeed a chance he is merely being proud about being able to get away with his current actions due to his status as Shinraâs hero, butâŚ
There is also the chance he knows he cannot be fired or disposed of because Shinra would never let him leave. They have control over him. He is different or special in that sense too. He is a prized possession, unlike the others.
I have yet to see, but I wonder if Sephiroth knows that he is risking severe punishment for his actions by helping his team and will not be met with a simple lay-off, but since this is his last chance to help and be with his team, he is ready to pay the price. If they are fired, he may not see them again. Now is his chance.
His hesitation at the helicopter is sincere. He clasps at his heart and everything. I donât believe he is being light-hearted when he tells Glenn he is different. In the English, it came off more prideful, as though Seph were daring Shinra to come after him. In Japanese, I get the feeling he is making a sacrifice.Â
Sephiroth also believes it is his job to protect his team. If Shinra tries to harm them, he will have to face that. I fear that for now, Sephiroth has not learned that Shinra will not just punish him, but they can also kill people he considers friends.
I also think this chapter was full of foreshadowing.
Even the scenes with Glenn praising Sephiroth and making an effort to do it honestly and constantly felt as though it were meant to be a contrast for what could be shown later if the Shinra higher-ups appear and catch Sephiroth in the act of treason.
I am very proud of him, but I am very concerned for him now.
(I have more thoughts on Sephirothâs relationship with Team Glenn after this chapter, but I will save it for another post! Hope you guys enjoy this one in the mean time!)

Change of Pace - Dottore x reader
Note: Same reader as Tomorrow and all that. Approximately three weeks after 'Tomorrow'. "Fuck it all" *softens your Dottore*. I need this man to kiss my hand or I will murder someone. Keep this out of character ai bots or I'm sending you all Taenia solium eggs
Tags: fem reader, reader from Fontaine, burnout, overworked, soft, very mild gore (mentions taking brain samples), comfort, fluff, they're both bad at this
MINORS, AGELESS, BLANK BLOGS DNI
Your samples were long past saving by now. How long had you been staring at the plate containing the biopsies, twenty minutes? The light was burning through your vision, making everything swim in your mind. But it was needed for the fixation in the next step. If you ever made it that far.
Hours of work, wasted because of your own inability. The clatter caused by your head hitting the table echoed ruthlessly while you fought off images of a dismayed Dottore. One thing was anger, disappointment was another matter entirely.
Maybe doing tissue analysis of your own brain would've been more valuable, at least then someone might figure out what was wrong with it.
A hand wrapped around yours, gently prying open your fingers before taking the scissors away. Sight was unnecessary to discern the owner as only a single other warm body frequented this section. Your eyes remained shut, now empty hand feeling along the table for its previous quarry.
If nothing else, dead samples could still be used verify that the technicalities worked, even if the data would be misleading.
"You're barely lucid, in which case I'd prefer if this waited until tomorrow. You're supposed to be handling raimei angel extracts later in the protocol, and stunning yourself would be unfortunate," Dottore was clearly trying, voice so uncharacteristically gentle it felt all manners of wrong.
It only made you sigh in desperation, how hard he was trying compared to you, his dedication unwavering regardless of the objective he put forward.
"I'm fine, I just need a moment. You wanted the initial assessment this week," your voice was muffled enough that it would hopefully hide the exhaustion.
The low chuckle he let out caused a shiver to run down your spine. It was something he'd done more as of late, a pleasant change of pace since the talk. You could almost see the charming smile that would no doubt accompany it, the glittering light in eyes you'd been fortunate enough to glimpse once.
There was no time to open your eyes and check, a warm palm coming to rest on the back your head. The light tremble in his hands made your chest tighten so long as you imagined it to be caused by worry instead of damage.
"You've been staring at nothing for an hour, hardly the best use of your time, and certainly not an indication of someone who is 'fine'."
An hour? Oh, the samples were beyond salvageable if that was true. Everything would've died in the wells by now. A pit dug itself out in your heart, tearing at what had otherwise reluctantly been dedicated to the harbinger. Thoughts of disaster were many, magnitude rivaling divine intervention according to what little remained awake of your consciousness.
Dottore was tugging at your wrist, hand swallowing yours with ease. For being a scholar, his hands spoke of a much different past than others bearing the same title. Another question that would at other times stoke the embers of your curiosity.
Did he want you to stand? Begrudgingly, your body attempted to follow where he lifted your arm. At the feeling of warm lips pressed to your wrist your eyes flew open in disbelief. The visage was the closest to divinity you'd ever gaze upon, in this fact alone were you without doubt. From where you were, the light behind him formed a halo, illuminating his tousled hair. His eyes were closed in silent devotion for but a moment.
Without the beaked mask, he was a completely different man. The large burn that covered a quarter of his face drew your attention first, but it was the crinkles around his eyes that made him look so painfully human.
"You are in no condition to work, this can bear to wait a day or two," his voice remained steady, the only thing you could safely cling to, too lost in committing to memory what he showed of himself.
"Are you certain, Dottore? If I just⌠ninety minutes of rest, a full cycle should be enough and then I can start over. We still have-"
"We still have plenty of time, dear. I told you, this isn't my most pressing project, so working you to the brink of destruction would be folly."
And that was enough to pacify you. The fact that he'd used a term of endearment, however questionable the choice, kept you smiling through the familiar corridors of the Palace, tucked securely under his arm and away from view. Under any other circumstance, this would've felt humiliating, but for today there was no fight left, only a dull yearning that had tears prickling your eyes.
It never became more than dozing off against him on a couch in his chambers. But that was enough, the heat from his body and his low mumbling while he read from a book soothed your frayed nerves.

THE PRINCESS DIARIES - coming into your power.
Astrological analysis with nakshatras
The princess diaries, 1 and 2, are forever on the list of my favorite movies. Girls all over the world feel for Mia and I'm no exception, I almost always cry during certain scenes and I'm amazed again and again by how relatable and real she is, by how those movies speak to young girls.
I've decided to break down the main themes in the two movies by analyzing nakshatras of the people involved.
A quick recap of what the story is about: Mia is a 15 year old teenager living in San Francisco with her mother. She's clumsy, awkward and has no self esteem. One day, her estranged grandmother comes to visit her from Europe to tell her that she's the only legitimate heir to rule a small country- Genovia.
Director of the movies, Garry Marshall has Ketu in Magha. Magha is about ancestors, bloodlines and it's also associated with royalty (Magha begins the signs of Leo). Ketu in a chart represents a person's primal creative energy. This explains why he was drawn to a story about royalty. One interesting fact to note is that Gary Marshall made two very iconic movies (Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride) starring Julia Roberts who has been a kind of muse to him and who has Magha moon. This is also a pattern with directors and actors, one example I can think of is Kirsten Dunst (Ashlesha moon, Purva Ashadha Ketu) being a muse to Sofia Coppola (Purva Ashadha moon, Ashlesha Ketu).
Anyways, let's get back to The Princess Diaries and analyze the heart of the two movies- the relationship between Mia and her grandmother, queen Clarisse.
Anne Hathaway - Hasta moon, Vishakha sun, Jyeshta rising
Julie Andrews - Vishakha moon, Hasta sun, Uttara Phalguni rising
SPOILER ALERT
Part 1
Hasta- strong females
The second movie's main theme is about female empowerment and independence. When the parliament refuses to let Mia rule without a husband, she has 30 days to arrange a marriage and she's willing to do it, just because she wants to rule so much that's she's ready to make such a sacrifice. At the last second she breaks down at her wedding, unable to be betray herself and finds courage inside her to make the parliament change their minds. She succeds and becomes queen without a husband.
Hasta is all about female empowerment but unlike Bharani, it's in a non-sexual, celibate way. Hasta, as a woman, completely rejects almost all male influence and is capable of being self-reliant, only opening up to rare men who she deems worthy. Hasta is the female that does not need a man and in that way, is a safe and empowering place for women.
There's a scene in the second movie where Mia stops the parade to defend a small girl from boys who were bullying her. She tells her how to be a princess and empowers her, letting her and the other kids join the parade. During the monologue at the end, when Mia is talking to the parliament at her wedding, we see women accross the country intently listening to her on the television, shushing the men . đ
Part 2
Vishakha - joining opposites
Like Hasta, both Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews have Vishakha in their luminaries. Vishakha nakshatra is about joining opposites. It begins in the sign of Libra (partnerships, agreements, relationships, compromise) with its last quarter being in Scorpio (death, transformation, occult). Vishakha is ruled by the gods Indra and Agni- the lightning and fire gods. It's about energized ebthuasiasm, cultivating something over time, about using the pent up energy or anger. It's another name is Radha ("the gift", hence the next nakshatra being Anuradha- "after the gift".)
"The gift" is not just good, it can also be unwelcome, like in Mia's case, when she was angered by the revelation that she's a princess. Queen Clarisse and Mia are very different from each other, but neither had a choice but to compromise and agree to a bargain. They learn to appreciate their differences and embrace their similarities, thus, joining opposite forces.
They do have misunderstandings, but that's part of all relationships and eventually they bond deeply as they realize they have the same goal. Vishakha is also connected to anger and the little outbursts they both have definitely show that. One great example is when Mia ruins Lana's (her bully's) outfit and calls her a jerk in front of everyone after always just silently ignoring her remarks.
Joining opposites in this movie is not just about Mia and the Queen, it's also about the two cultures, also about the first movie being a high school drama as well as a fairytale for young girls.
Part 3
Jyeshta - from underdog to the ruler
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear."
-Mia's father to her in a letter
To me, Jyeshta is connected to the underdog who succeeds despite all odds. Jyeshta 's power is to "rise, conquer and gain courage in battle". It's the stage of intense competition. Its deity is Indra- lightning god and the king of the gods, like Vishakha. We see other kids bully Mia in the first film but she slowly places herself above it, making her point (by taking her little revenge on Lana) and then not engaging with them anymore, as she realizes her own self- worth.
A major point in the movie is when she decides not to run away despite being scared to speak to the public, showing her true courage.
Besides Indra- the king of the gods, another deity associated with Jyeshta is Dhumavati- the hag goddess who is eternally hungry. Because of this, I think Jyeshta is associated with grandmothers and our relationship to them. I personally have exalted Ketu in Jyeshta and I was practically raised by my father's late mother (unlike my sibling, mind you. I'm the eldest) and I still have a close relationship with my mother's mother. Mia, played by Jyeshta ascendant Anne Hathaway, also has a very special relationship with her grandmother.
So, in the end, the bullied underdog became a princess and eventually- a queen.
Some bonuses:
Uttara Phalguni is associated with gaining wealth and privileges from partnerships. Uttara Phalguni ascendant Julie Andrews playing queen Clarisse, who became a royal by marriage, confirms that.
Heather Mattarazo (Lily) and Anne Hathaway were born only a few days apart, hence their charts being similar and them playing best friends.
So, this is it. If you found this interesting, please, interact with me, like, comment, reblog. Take care đ¤

Note
aita for taking revenge on my classmate?
i have a classmate who i never liked from the very beginning.
let's call her V.
now, V and i sit very far from each other on opposite ends of the classroom, and we have never interacted ever. i had my circle of friends, & she, her own. but ever since the school year began, it seemed she decided she didn't like me & set out to make my academic life miserable.
during the 1st quarter, my classmates & i applied for a school club, including V, who collected the application papers to give to the club leader. we expected our papers to come back after a few days or so, & they did... except mine. i asked the club leader where mine went, but she said she didn't receive anything with my name on it. i asked V, & her response was along the lines of "what application? you didn't give me anything" even though i was one of the first ones to finish & submit.
during the 2nd quarter, i was grouped with V for a project in science. all groups were given materials & a questionnaire to answer while the activity was ongoing. we were allowed to take home the questionnaire for submission the next day, so my group did, & i was tasked to answer one of the questions. i was able to answer the first half which i submitted to our group chat to be added, but i needed research for the second part of the question. by the time i was able to formulate a reasonable answer for the second half (around 30 minutes later), V & the others told me that they already turned in the paper without me. you could imagine how furious i was at how they didn't bother to wait for me, & how that severely affected my grades when my report card came out. while i suffered, she made it to the Highest Honors Roll.
i was not going to let that slide.
so it's currently the 3rd quarter. our assignment is literature analysis. i was on my way to opening the gdrive folder & putting my output in there when i saw that V had prepped her own output folder & i assume forgot to secure it. i figured it was time she had a taste of her own medicine, so i deleted her work.
i know it may come off as petty, but with her not admitting to anything & the teachers not being very helpful when it comes to investigating things like these, i had to do the first step. aita?
What are these acronyms?

Power Imbalance 3
<< Start < Part 2 ⢠Part 4 > End >>
Villain's eyes squinted at the small letters. They had only finished a quarter of what they expected Henchman to do. The stacks of paper only seemed to remain stagnant despite doing as much as possible. How Henchman managed it all was a mystery. They really did take too much credit for their work, after all.
Villain sat back in their chair; the conversation from yesterday with Sharp-Shooter did nothing to help the situation. Maybe they needed to do something drastic about the problem. Villain stood up from their chair and grabbed the coffee machine that sat idly on the side. They refilled the cup and heard a knock on their door.
It was Henchman.
"Good morning." Villain set down the machine and walked back to their chair. "If you're here for those papers, unfortunately, they aren't done."
"That's fine." Henchman sat down in the plush chair across from them and allowed silence to overtake the room.
Villain stared back at their blank eyes and fiddled with the wooden armchair. They asked them to get some rest yesterday, but it looked like none of that happened. "So, how was it?" They casually asked.
"How was what?"
"Your break."
Henchman's legs instinctively crossed along with their arms. "It was fine. Nothing happened."
Something told them it wasn't as okay as it seemed, and evident by the fact that other members had attacked Henchman and brought them to bring Henchman into their office. They weren't one for confrontations, but while the cleaners had fit to work on removing the spray paint from Henchman's door, they might as well keep them at arm's length. "Listen, I was thinking of making some changes around here." Henchman sat up, though clearly looking uncomfortable at having the entire facility's rules overturned because of them. "You know I wanted to see what I could do to help you get to know the others better. Maybe you just started on the wrong foot."
"I know, butâŚ" their gaze set itself on the floor. "I don't want to trouble you or anyone else."
"It's not a problem, and I'll make sure it isn't a problem for everyone else either."
"I really appreciate it, but when I said I was fine on my own, I meant it." Henchman stood up and gathered the papers from their desk and into their arms.
Villain let them take their time and watched them leave feeling a little disheartened at the situation.
Before they could get up, the door opened again, "Oh, Henchmanâ"their words stopped. It wasn't Henchman; Villain knew this criminal. Their eyes were hidden behind a pair of blue goggles and familiar jet-black boots. They had to stop themselves from blowing up on the unwanted guest. Saber was the worst employee in the entire organization. They never seemed to get anything done. If anyone should be attacked, it should've been Saber.
"Uh boss."
"Save it for later. I already know you brought nothing."
"No!" They raised their arms and quickly walked in front of Villain, "I have something of value this time." They pulled out a small chip from their coat and slid it over. Villain curiously pulled it up into view.
"I swear if this is worthless, I'm putting you into hard labour for the next week." They rolled their chair toward their computer and inserted the drive. The screen waited for permission to grant access to the software, and Saber held their breath.
"I'm sure you'd be pleased."
The screen loaded and in walked Shooter. "You again?" They chuckled and placed a large black box on the couch. "Aren't you supposed to be ruining another mission for us?"
"I am not!"
Villain tuned out the noise as their eyes scanned the screen. A file with a list of different links appeared; Villain clicked on the first one with a picture of a man in a suit surrounded by a group of bodyguards. "Well, isn't this interesting?" They mumbled. The photograph was of the elusive Head of The General Elections Committee. According to their last analysis, they were last seen in the provincial North after a protest broke out outside their home South of their work facility, something about fraudulent votes and unfair treatment of the staff who formerly worked for him. The Hero's Agency hadn't said anything for or against their target yet, which meant he was all game. Supervillain released a bounty on his head last year, almost executing another villain with a name they couldn't remember. It was an entire ordeal, and they hadn't expected a high-class target would be found by none other than... Saber.
"Saber." They called and turned the screen toward them; Saber looked at them, waiting for this moment their entire life, "Did you take these pictures?"
"Yes I did."
"Isn't that the guy who almost got Supervillain's wife killed?" Shooter stepped forward.
"He killed Supervillain's wife?"
"No..." Villain intervened, "He almost got another villain executed for something they didn't do."
Shooter pointed at them, "That was Supervillain's wife. She works as a villain too."
"Really?" Saber and Villain said.
"What's her name?" Villain flipped the screen back at them and opened a search engine.
"Like Silver... something something I forgot."
Villain typed the name into the search box and wrote a string of other related words to the case. The screen opened up a picture of their target along with pages of news addressing the controversy from about a year ago. "Found it..."
"Saber, I thought you were over-stealing other people's work." Shooter set a hand on their shoulder, and Saber slapped it off.
"I am! And I didn't steal any of this, I took it myself!"
Shooter scoffed, "Okay," They sarcastically raised their hands, "I've just never seen you with a camera before."
"You know you're a real asshole, Shooter. Fuck you."
Villain sighed deeply, "Can you two take your conversation outside, I'm trying to do something here."
"But boss," Shooter gestured at the box they brought in earlier, still sitting on the couch. However, Villain had already done enough and needed to finish researching the sudden appearance of the longtime threat to the underworld.
With a flick of their wrist, the two of them walked out the door.

I'm happily educating myself on all things Barriss via your wonderful blog. If you'd ever feel like unpacking more of your Wrong Jedi thoughts/intrigue, I'd love to hear more of your analysis.
Oh my, you've put a quarter in the machine now you have to hear the whole song.
The arc is very divisive with Barriss enjoyers because her character veers so far from her Legends depiction. She was a pretty prominent character in the original Clone Wars multimedia project and was a caring and selfless healer. And the arc doesn't do much to explain her motivations for turning.
Another thing that vexes me is because it is essentially a police procedural (they even hired a writer from Third Watch for this arc) so much occurs off-screen. So, we do not know quite what happened but have to infer.
Let's start with motivation. In her very few post The Wrong Jedi appearances they've tried to hint at Barriss falling mainly though post-traumatic stress disorder. And that's sort of a good explanation? She was at Geonsis at the start of the war, and was one of two Padawans we know of IN the arena who lived and the other was Anakin! You have to think this is a healer, someone who was trained to be a pacifist, and the battle was so sudden and frantic that she had to witness other Padawans she knew in the creche die all around her and she was too busy defending herself to do anything. So that's trauma and guilt. The short story A Jedi's Duty shows that she sat out nearly the entire first year of the war healing others back at the temple, explaining why she wasn't there to deal with Asajj Ventress with Luminara in TCW season 1. Also, she is having trouble sleeping because of memories of that first battle. She asked for help but they told her to meditate if she couldn't sleep, but she couldn't meditate properly because of this haze of the dark side invading her perceptions. She's even having trouble Force healing and she feels guilty that others are taking risks that she is unwilling to take. She consults with an old friend, Tutso Mara and is finally able to meditate, but right then Luminara calls her to a briefing, and wouldn't you know it, they're going to Geonosis again. She is frightened but memorizes the tunnel formations under the weapons factory they need to destroy because that's her duty to the Light and to her Order. The last scene is her joining Luminara and Gree to depart for the battle. And it's such an ironic story because Master Mara is one of her later victims and the place she bombs is right there in the temple hangar where the story ends. I think that's why she chose it as her target, it was the place she went from safety to chaos.
And what happens next? She almost is buried alive Right Away, then as she's reeling from that she gets a Geonocian brain worm. She was also at the Battle of Umbara, and you know how that goes. So I guess trauma is a fairly good reason, as well as her love and admiration of Jedi ethics and pedagogy that just went right out the window when the Jedi had to do what it took to fight in this war. Barriss is a bookworm, all that heritage meant something to her. And really, that was the purpose of the war, to isolate the Jedi by having them betray their morals and sully their reputation with the public.
Fanfiction writers also can pick and choose from Legends, such as all the crazy stuff that happened to her on Drongar but that's a story for another day.
So we get to the Wrong Jedi Arc itself. We aren't shown how she meets Letta Turmond, how much of a partnership that was. Letta says Barriss was the mastermind of the operation but that's after she's jailed. I don't trust her. I mean, Letta is a grown woman and while Barriss was an idealistic and heartsick Jedi at that point she's just 17-18 according to Feloni. I can see it as a situation where a teenager gets politically radicalized and taken advantage by a woman she trusts. If we get a Letta flashback in Tales of the Empire I will be so happy!
Ahsoka is framed. But there's a multi-step aspect to it. Part A, Letta calls Ahsoka to the prison because she was told she was the only Jedi her collaborator trusted and gets Force choked by someone we do not see. Part B, after she is arrested someone leaves a key card outside her cell and she follows a trail of first injured then dead clones to make it look like she broke out and went on a killing spree. Part C is the only one we actually see start to finish, where Ahsoka contacts Barriss and she lures her to the factory that made the nano-droids.
Barriss is guilty of Part C. But did she do Part A and B? She was at the funeral with Ahsoka and heard same time as her that she was transferred to a military compound. Then in the maybe hour, two hours Ahsoka was in a mission briefing Barriss supposedly broke into a brand-new high security compound, got in the walls, and strangled Letta as Ahsoka was in the cell alone with her. Then Part B, she hung around undetected for a few more hours to set up the escape while also erasing the audio off the recording of the murder.
I personally think Palpatine MIGHT have done part A. He has much greater access and he has the motive (to take away a pillar of stability for Anakin). If Barriss did do Part A, what was the motivation? The most pessimistic reading is she did it to save her own skin and purposely framed Ahsoka. Another is that Barriss genuinely talked up Ahsoka to Letta, and did NOT do so to set her up but because she was one of the lonely girl's only friends (and maybe love interest) and then Letta goes ahead and calls her there, Barriss is in the walls, and she just cannot have Ahsoka's opinion of her ruined. She killed Letta to silence her from tainting this one friendship she had left, did so out of panic, and wasn't thinking of the consequences. Then Part B, oh no I got my girlfriend framed for murder. So she springs her out. So why does she kill those clones to further frame her?
Consider the conversation after the funeral, "Ahsoka, do you think it is right for us to ignore our emotions?" I think the subtext there was "Ahsoka, I'm hurting so much, join me to stop me." She was feeling her out to see if she felt the same about the war as she did. And she did Part B to see if Ahsoka would run, SO THEY COULD RUN AWAY TOGETHER. Sure, it's manipulative as all Hell, but that's the dark side for you. It was a test, and Ahsoka failed because as soon as she gets out, she calls Barriss to help clear her name. So that she could get back to the war. The war Barriss hates with all her being. So that's why she did Part C. She had been alienated by the Order and her own master by all these deployments and the one person left who she valued was buying into the propaganda that the Jedi needed to finish this war. It broke her. And she did something awful.
All and all I think her fall is fascinating because it wasn't for personal power or attachments, she wanted to sacrifice her own grace to save the souls of all other Jedi. She did it out of love for the Order, even if it came in such a twisted and destructive form. That's also why she'd become a lousy Inquisitor. They're the anthesis of all she stood for, an army fighting for the dark side.
I know a lot of fans hate this arc but... man that speech! I spent the whole Prequel trilogy and TCW waiting for a Jedi to stand up and say "What we are doing is wrong, we should stop." Yoda and Mace know their path is leading to the dark, but they see no other way but through. I just wanted someone to say no with their whole chest. And it was Barriss. That's why I love her, your honor. I admire the idealists, her and Satine. They should have teamed up and put a stop too all that nonsense.
Sorry this is so long? I have a lot of FEELINGS and now you can see why I have a lot of trepidation about this Saturday. You know, I thought of you last night when I was rewatching Tales of the Jedi. It was the scene were Dooku was leaving to meet Palpatine with Yaddle following in The Sith Lord. I was imagining how you felt watching that for the first time, and I remembered my reaction was "Oh no, it's the temple hangar! Barriss is going to blow the shit out of this place in a decade and change!"

No bc what if Snowâs hatred and realization of Katnissâ power started before the berries? Think about it.
The obvious, shooting an arrow at the game makers. All of them thought about how cool it was, blah blah blah, but what if Snow looked at that and saw Sejanus? Sejanus, throwing a chair at the screen when they brought out Marcus, his dead friend. And Sejanus was raised capitol. And he didnât have a romance going on.
Snow knew the potential that Katniss had, if she saw something unfair. He heard about the tribute who was in love, who was causing a ruckus in the training room, and he knew what that led too because heâs seen it. He wasnât as worried about Peeta because he didnât have the same fire that snow himself once had in him. He knew how people swooned for a love story (director people being romantics, saying he cheated in the games for love and letting him off the bad hook), and the power Katniss would have if she turned rebel.
Second reason, which is way less obvious. MEADOW SONG. Lucy Gray didnât sing it at the Hob. She only sang it on television, and to her family. And Dr. Gaul said that she had destroyed every last tape of it, save for one for herself. And how easy would that have been for him to get and destroy, especially once he had killed her (which I believe he definitely did, but thatâs unrelated. Mostly).
Katniss sang the meadow song. The meadow song, which has only one (possibly destroyed copy) of it on record. So where else would she have learned it? Someone connected to Lucy Gray. Snow is terrified of anyone coming back from that part of his past to haunt him. He now knows Katniss is somehow connected/related to Lucy Gray, the girl who nearly shook his entire value system and made him rethink everything (just like Katniss did with Panem, btw).
Snow knows how dangerous this girl is. He knows what she could do with her power, but he has to make sure the country doesnât know what she has because they will be the ones giving it to her. He has to make sure the (possibly STILL ALIVE at that point (he probably checked she wasnât during his visit before the quarter quell)) Lucy Gray didnât know how dangerous she was.
Thatâs why he had her dress up. Not to make her seem like a lovesick schoolgirl, but a harmless lovesick schoolgirl. One with no fire in her. Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire, extinguished, along with any trace of rebellion. The capitol and all of panem has seen her strategies, her brutality, and her soft side. They canât be fooled by dresses, unless Katniss believes she can fool them through dresses.
Itâs so many layers. The capitol people at the bottom, who needed no convincing. Then the district people, who wouldnât be able to afford to not care about how Katniss saw herself. If they saw Katniss seeing herself as unfit for the rebellion, they would too, thus eliminating any chance of it (to Snow). Next, Katniss. She thinks she knows why she has to wear the stupid dresses. She thinks she knows her power if she stayed strong, and she must do everything in her power not to do that. But she doesnât understand the extent of it (until the tour and uprisings in 8).
Snow knows ALL of this. He made the layers, separating them. He perfected it and he is all around it. He knows what each layers thinking, because he has thought it too. Heâs thought it all through, all the steps, all the layers, and he only has one conclusion; Snow lands on top.
As always thank you for reading this if you did! And I truly did mean to make this bosas analysis short, but as you can see it is not (unless you compare it to my others). Whatâs amazing to me is the last line in this, the snow lands on top. Because so far you are thinking about how itâs Katnissâ actions and Snowâs reactions, but heâs kind of on top of it all in the end. This whole post was about him, and thatâs also sort of a metaphor for the books themselves. How Katniss was the main character of the rebellion, but Snow/Coin were the real ones behind the rebellion (both sides). Just brain candy, yk?

MCR5 timeline analysis -
This is 100% based on my theory on MCR wanting to drop MCR5 and have it nominated for a Grammy. Why do I think this? This is possibly their last album and they want to go out with a bang. The only Grammy nomination they have received was for Black Parade, which they are playing front to back during WWWYF. SO they are just coming off the buzz of their SWARM tour, with almost a full year of hiatus the first news we have heard is headlining WWWYF which is happening October 2024. Here on Tumblr we have all speculated when the next single or the album will drop, but for my Grammy nomination the best time to release an album has been debated. Some say September, some say the summer (mostly July from what I see).
Looking at this year's nominees for best rock albums and when they were released:
But Here We Are, Foo Fighters - June 2023
Starcatcher, Greta Van Fleet - July 2023
72 Seasons, Metallica - April 2023
This Is Why, Paramore - February 2023
In Times New RomanâŚ, Queens Of The Stone Age - June 2023
There is a pretty big difference in when these were released, but it all falls within the second and third quarter of the year (except for Paramore).
If we look at the past 4 winners of best rock album Grammy we have the following:
Patient Number 9, Ozzy Osbourne - February
Medicine at Midnight, Foo Fighters - February
The New Abnormal, The Strokes - April
Social Cues, Cage the Elephant - April
SO if Paramore wins that will be the third album dropped in February that won in the past 3 years, which is quarter 1 of the year. With all of this, the best chances of MCR having a strategy around releasing their album to get the most Grammy attention, MY personal educated guess would be either later Q1 of 2024 OR early to late Q2. So looking for Late February to early June. If this is true there is a good chance of a tour leading up to or including WWWYF.
Thank you for reading all of this for all who did. Please let me know thoughts, comments, or concerns.
