Yeah. Plus, everyone PLAYED their characters. From their conception, to the stories, to the jokes— you get cuts to cast members wondering what their characters would say and everything. (“whats a song about tables?” “this is a grandma doing it wrong, so…” etc. even with ally, they were making fun of their friend, which is meant for people who know the person in question.) They were having fun, trying to guess what sense of humor matched their friends’, and then there’s just… this random guy who’s just saying whatever. The character of “steven” could be completely divorced from “top snake” and almost nothing about how steven was played would change. It felt really weak and disappointing, and pulled attention away from the chemistry the cast has together. We don’t get any “what would steven say?” or anything. And the choice to include a guy with no personal connection to the cast during a game where the players are relying on how well they know their friends to guess who is who… felt really weird. AND have that guy make all the important game altering choices…?
I feel like it’d be much better if it turned out Sam was the ratfish, and someone else was faking being Sam. (The guest, maybe? Idk.) Then he could use “I’ve been here the WHOLE TIME!” as a reveal. The big twist would be that the host is a player instead.
And have the winner be determined some other way, like whoever got the most laughs, or let the cast collectively rank their favorites.
I really enjoyed the Ratfish. However, I don't think the person who played the ratfish was a good fit for the role and I disagree completely with his favourite characters (I love granma) and the ending feels very unsatisfying, especially since Rekha guessed every person correctly before the game ended and got nothing for it in the end. The ratfish just came off as kind of boring and the choice to not reveal him was very confusing to me. I think that Katie is great and she was amazing in the episode (everyone was), but in my heart, Rekha and Zac absolutely should have won.
#least fav game changer tbh#i really enjoyed the cast but#ehhhh the execution and conception got messed up#its a really funny concept tho. i feel like with some changes it could be elevated quite easily. maybe let the cast have more control#both w how their messages are presented and how rounds end#this is a game for like. a very long episode or something i feel like we missed out on commentary and rapport and silly jokes#for the sake of time and focusing on the ratfish#who was (nothing against the guy personally) the weakest part of the episodes

(So you don’t have to deal with all the annoying ads on The Mirror’s website, here’s the whole article interview)
EXCLUSIVE: David Tennant reveals his wife Georgia's role) in his 'huge' Rivals series decision
By Nicola Methven
“David Tennant says he jumped at the chance to star in Jilly Cooper’s 1980s bonkbuster Rivals - because his wife said it would be “sensational”.
The former Doctor Who star said she was thrilled when the first script arrived. “I told Georgia and she was convinced that this was something I had to be involved with,” he explains. “She said, ‘This series is going to be huge. This is going to be exactly what the country needs, exactly what the world needs.’
"She knew the books from her teenage years, as I understand, and knew that this was going to make sensational television.”
He duly accepted the role of Lord Tony Baddingham, one of the show’s main villains and was delighted when Georgia eventually got to watch the episodes, and loved them.
"Her reaction was so positive and so joyous," he says. "I know when she's being genuine."
Tony is a grammar school boy with a chip on his shoulder about not being a proper toff. His character runs a regional TV station facing franchise renewal and has a dependable upper-crust wife, played by Sherwood's Claire Rushbrook, but is also having a very steamy affair with the new TV executive he's lured over from New York (Nafessa Williams).
The actor, 53, argues that poor old Tony is just horribly misunderstood. "From the inside, no character believes they're a villain, do they? I think Tony's motivations are very clear. He's very easy to understand in many ways. Tony sees himself as hard done by and someone who's just struggling to survive and to win."
While he can remember the 80s quite clearly, Tenant says that filming Rivals felt very much like being on a period drama. "It's almost like being on the set of a Dickens novel," he muses.
"The 80s seems quite recent history to me, but once you start recreating that world, you realise it's actually very different. That's wonderful fun to film - to be on a time capsule of a set is glorious."
As the Doctor he got to time-travel all over the place in the TARDIS but Tenant says he loved spending time in the 80s, not least because of the music. When you're a teenager at the time, a lot of it, however good it is, is uncool, and therefore you're not really allowed to like it," he says. "Whereas now, as a jaded 53-year-old, I can just go, 'Oh, do you know what I loved? A-ha'."
And what else did he love? "I didn't have to ride a horse, which was a mercy, because I'm a little bit allergic."
Tenant admits that filming the incredibly saucy bedroom scenes was a bit awkward but he felt there was safety in numbers thanks to the huge number of them. Barely any of the cast don't end up getting involved in one way or another.
"| mean, sex scenes are never comfortable, you know? But again, because everyone was in the same boat, there was a lot of discussion about, 'When are you doing that scene?' and 'Have vou done that yet?'
He believes it's fine for Rivals to be labelled a “bonkbuster" - it's full of sex at the end of the day - but only if it's said with due respect for what Dame Jilly achieved with the Rutshire Chronicles. "There are a generation of readers who were so influenced by her, and for whom these novels meant so much, it means that that writing is obviously better than some would have you believe," he says. "The way she writes character is timeless, and people having sex is pretty timeless. So these books have been tenacious for a reason." The actor says an early scene where the pathologically competitive Tony leaps from his helicopter onto the croquet lawn is his favourite career moment so far.
"That hole-in-one, I would like you to know, was probably the greatest day of my professional life," he laughs. Instructed by the director to "whack it" from 30 feet away he was told the cameras would keep running until he managed it. "I thought the crew are gonna hate me by take 402," he remembers. "And I nailed it on take four. I've never felt more pleased with myself than that moment. I felt like a sporting God."”
#david tennant#Rutshire? really?? 😂#I guess it’s the same as Baddingham#I had never heard of Jilly Cooper or her books before David was cast in this#I’m sure I’m going to enjoy the gratuitous sex#I’m not sure I’ll enjoy any of the vibes or plot#david fucking tennant#sexy scottish serpent#rivals#jilly cooper#bonkbuster#interview#tony baddingham#georgia tennant#good omens#crowley#doctor who#dw

I really want to see a more fucked up version of Charlie in canon. Like, okay, I am a die-hard for sweet bubbly girls in media. But I always see how some people make Charlie actually, oh I dunno... demonic? And it's so refreshing for her type of character. I could honestly see her having low empathy (and we kinda see this with how she handled Angel's situation or even Vaggie's nervousness about taking control on an activity). An exploration of that trait (if it was intended) would be interesting to see for a protagonist, especially when her main goal is about helping others. I would love to see her actually have a level of difficulty in understanding others' feelings from the other residents, sinners, and even her father.
But give her a fucked up side. Not a "she gets more power when she's angey uwu", but a "oh, she's a little fucked in the head". It would give so much to her character that she just doesn't have.
@/murmurmurena (don't wanna bother them so slash there we go) has some fun ideas with Charlie. I highly encourage people to check their stuff out! So many fun dark ideas with her character while also still keeping to her canon personality pretty well! Personally, I think Charlie being a bit more naive to her own messed up traits would work best but her also being aware of these traits can make for some interesting character for her.
THIS FIC, "A Game Between You and I". RIGHT HERE WITH THE FIRST CHAPTER. A bit of spoil for the fic here: but I love how they handled Charlie’s absolute ignorance as to why the idea of Russian roulette is horrifying to Angel Dust. It doesn't feel like her being intentionally malicious or aware that she's the odd man out here. This is also a pretty old fic going by only the pilot, but the point still stands that it was such a fun take for her character!
Charlie is one of my favorite characters in the show in part of the POTENTIAL she could have as being the most bubbly sweetheart character while also being the most messed up character in the show. I can't say I have strong confidence with the show's writing and fully expect them to stick with Charlie being the "nice girl but oh no, don't get her angry or she gets scarwy". Which isn't bad for a character mind you, there's just so much more potential to Charlie outside of that trope, especially when you get into the theories of her either being a doll, Roo's biological daughter, or what have you. And for the MAIN CHARACTER of the show, it would be not only interesting but also bring the spotlight back to her.
There's really no question that the side characters steal the show, particularly all the male characters. If I'm honest, Charlie does not feel like she gets a lot of love from the show itself when she's supposed to be the main character. She feels far more flat compared to the rest of the characters (again, the male cast in this "female-lead" show has more depth than most of the female cast currently. I wouldn't be pointing this tidbit concerning the genders of characters if it weren't for the fact Viv defended Helluva's lack of development with their female cast by saying "Hazbin is a female-lead show and Helluva is a male-lead" and Hazbin ended up with it not feeling female lead (to me) and the male cast just completely stealing the show. I don't normally care about gender stuff, especially since I do personally lean interest towards male characters. But using one show as a defense for poor development of the female characters, and then that show not really holding up with no very interesting well-developed feeling female characters irritates me. It's just very clear that these shows don't seem to care much about the female cast :/)
If you like how Charlie is written that's totally fine. PERSONALLY, I just think they're missing so much opportunity with her character by just making her the standard female character type. I honestly don't have a lot of faith they'll actually do something with Charlie's character though. She's a pretty static character in S1 being the same from start to end. Not changing or learning anything to create any development. What does the end of season Charlie do that start of season Charlie wouldn't do? Fight back? Because we see with the pilot (which is the “first episode”) that Charlie does fight people if pushed like with Katie Killjoy and even Valentino. Static characters can work in media depending on the show or their role. But Charlie is the MC of a show about “bettering one's self”. So to have her as a static with not a lot of strong dilemmas for herself (like we see with Angel Husk Al and even Vox) seems silly. Plus, considering Hazbin is telling a whole story and it's not a fun episodic thing, characters are expected to grow on some level. Or else, what was the point of their hero's journey?
#I honestly have a lot of problems with Hazbin's storytelling#That the limited time of doing plot doesn't even help it and shouldn't be used to shield the show from criticisms#Especially when you can find the same issues in Helluva Boss that has no excuse with the writing (though it's getting a bit better)#I love this show but goodness gracious it makes me have a tangent about it#Charlie's unimpactful character writing just being one of MANY issues#Hopefully the crew take all the criticisms into account for S3#S2 if possible would be nice but they probably had it all scripted by the time S1 was airing.#No shame on the female cast either they're fine. But when you compare them to the given depth of characters like Angel Husk Alastor and Vox#They're pretty lackluster. Vaggie's probably the closest to a female character with a lot of layers we've seen in the show#And she wasn't done very well with being essentially just “Charlie's GF” with not much identity outside of that explored much#Some of this may be more personal takes but it's frustrating. Again I don't normally care about gender stuff in media#It was just the excuse to Millie and Loona lacking development that bothers me#Like Hazbin is supposed to make up Helluva's poor writing of their main female leads#Loona got a bit of love with the Bee ep and Verosika and Octavia are pretty good. Particularly V with her relationship with Blitz#Whenever I start talking about aspects of Hazbin's writing I always end up ranting a bit (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄#Celtrist#cel rambles#hazbin hotel#hazbin hotel charlie#charlie morningstar#hazbin critique#hazbin criticism#hazbin critical#hazbin hotel critical#hazbin hotel criticism#hazbin hotel critique#hazbin hotel rant#You can really love something and still be critical with it#I do it out of love I swear#You're not in the Sonic fandom for like 22 yrs and don't learn to be critical of the media you enjoy lol

Honestly? Good anime imo! I really enjoyed Aileen. I enjoyed Claude. I enjoyed Isaac and Keith and Rachel and Almond and Ribbon. I enjoyed Belzebuth and the flock of ducks (Walt/Kyle/Auguste) and Jasper.
#i'm the villainess so i'm taming the final boss#aileen lauren d'autriche#hey so i love her and that show was really cute#i really enjoyed the interactions and despite the huge cast for a 12 episode show i was endeared to most of them#however im also just incredibly biased to liking side characters so you can have a small role and i love you#but i really enjoyed how things that happened in like episode 3 for instance w keith were resolved#BUT in a later episode he brings it up again and how he still felt guilty#and i just really like that while people do bad things it shows motives and stuff#and those that deserve forgiveness (keith) can get it even though it isnt like... full redemption cause he still holds it against himself#and then those that are undeserving get to go to prison in ep12#im on an otome kick lately bc i havent been able to game much due to low energy#but i managed to do some otome-ing#so then i was also like yeah time to watch an otome isekai bc im living up to my outed at work weeb life#get you a villainess who can cross dress for four episodes and dress up like a duck and kick butt#technically there is more of her boysona in more than the 4 but there are just like#5-8 she presents as a boy For The Plot#sorry this show has actually absorbed all my brain for a couple days if im honest#also i have like zero energy and probably will have low energy for the week bc holidays stress me out even tho#we do not really celebrate much at my house and its really casual#its just so much busier on the roads and driving is exhausting

I think it's really interesting watching the different ways that Wharton abuses Nick vs. Serena. Nick is a man of colour from working class origins and very limited education while Serena is a white upper class woman with a good education. Nick has gender privilege but Serena is privileged in all other ways.
With Nick, the abuse and manipulation is more overt and direct, and occurs earlier on and more intensely as Wharton tries to pull Nick into his world by filling the empty father-figure space in his life. He takes an immediately controlling, unequal position with Nick. We see this in their first on-screen interaction when he acts understanding of Nick's situation and tells him he can have a good life and be a good man if he acts right. The intensity of this manipulation really ramps up as soon as the second episode where Wharton brings up Nick's difficult childhood, poking first at his mother who worked in a diner (which didn't work on Nick who defended her and her job) and then at Nick's difficult father, honing in on that particular weakness of Nick's as well as his abandonment issues. He knows Nick is desperate to be a good man and a good father, and acts like the wise, caring, stable, seemingly patient man that he knows Nick wants to be and to have in his life. And then his true colours come out as soon as he senses Nick slipping from his control again, where Nick is acting in the interest of someone else, and under the guidance and care of someone else. Then he threatens Nick's life and brings up his childhood issues yet again, only this time making them seem all the more real by mentioning Nick could be on the wall.
Comparably with Serena, Wharton is much sweeter, much slower, much more deliberate and grand in his manipulations. Serena does not respond to bluntness as she, like many women (especially educated white women), is turned away from it, preferring language coached in empowerment. Serena has a particular level of confidence and self-worth that comes from her privileges that Nick doesn't have access to and a deep sense of outrage when she is denied these thing, like she had been with Fred. Wharton gives her the sensation that he is on her side and that she will have power and influence in a world that won't allow for it, and she falls for it as he builds and builds and builds up the romance and life that she's always wanted.
It makes for a really fascinating comparison and contrast. Wharton knows exactly what both of these people want to hear and the kind of people they aspire to be, but he has to handle it differently. Serena would have turned tail and run if she'd been manipulated as intensely, aggressively, and quickly as Nick experienced while Nick likely would have picked up on the more insincere nature of a longer game that Serena experienced. Wharton played to Serena's ego and desire to have a good man and to Nick's insecurities and desire to be a good man.
I like that for both Serena and Nick, once they had full official ties to Wharton (Nick with marrying Rose and especially having a child with her, and Serena with marriage), the man's true colours came out. (More slowly for Nick and more quickly for Serena, but the official ties preceding abuse is the same.) That is a super common abuse tactic where the abuser changes their tune, going from seemingly decent and kind to horrible once they have gained legal power and control as it is much more difficult to escape from them.
Wharton doesn't need to use his hands or his belt to be an abusive piece of shit. He knows that his voice, his words, his mannerisms, and his abilities are all far more powerful than brute force. "I'm not someone to be survived" is possibly the most chilling line spoken by a character on this show and indicates what a danger he is to anyone that dares to defy him in even the smallest of ways.
#nick blaine#serena waterford#the handmaid's tale#tht s6 spoilers#with all that said i do wish more of the focus had been on the abuse nick is facing as abuse between men isn't discussed much#and what's happening to nick is being overshadowed by the stunning dramatic shift in wharton with serena#still though wharton is a really well done villain and i'm enjoying him#josh charles is great casting for this too#he nails the creepy manipulative religious man

Musical Touken Ranbu: Hanakage Yureru Tomizu (The Shadows of Flowers Swaying In The Whetwater) english subs
About a month later than I'd have liked, but here they are! Even if its writing is a bit more messy than usual, its core is very solid. Of course, Chougi's live song more than got away with me (it's got Japanese Sign Language), so if you could, please watch it gently.
I dedicate this to the friends of mine who love Ichigo Hitofuri. May you be unapologetically yourself, right the way you are.
Keep in mind that this is only the subtitle file, timed and tled to the DMM senshuuraku and BD/DVD. The archive version will have a talk at the start, so the starting times of the subs will have to be delayed accordingly.
You can find the subtitles and my TL document here!
#touken ranbu#toumyu#hanakage yureru tomizu#water's translations#Ichigo Hitofuri#Heshikiri Hasebe#Yamanbagiri Chougi#Onimaru Kunitsuna#Koryuu Kagemitsu#Daihannya Nagamitsu#hanakage is like... Going by the writing style of the writer as shown in Goumyu and Ishi's Utaawase skit all the obvious pitfalls appeared#touching more lightly upon other characters works more nicely for lighthearted situations or broad focuses--#when it comes to character-focussed stuff you need to ahve everyone play a part and FEEL#and I really missed the more... personal touch and characterisation efficiency the previous writer excelled in#Ichigo and Hon'ami aside there are very few songs in which the feelings of the swords and their opinion on the situation are highlighted#it's a shame-- especially when we've got such good singers on the cast#what's also a shame is that this seals off any kage plot Kogitsunemaru could've had after Utaawase (because it'd have been done before)#Hanakage was the myu where I was like “Ah. Kogitsunemaru has no unique themes/directions left.”#it's devastating but also kind of freeing in a sense#(and then MichiOku came around and simultaneously gave Kogi a place AND pulled the rug from under him so well-- mixed feelings on that one!#in any case please enjoy!#it'd be cute if we had a kage myu at one point with Kogi Koryuu and the one from this myu

Do you think you will ever check out Raincode? It's made by the same people who made DR but with a more focus on mystery. (It has the same vibes and stuff, I feel like you would like it a lot) another thing, the writing is so banger
Yes, I've already played Raincode!! Really enjoyed it, especially for the DR-like vibe and I actually made charms of the main cast:
I have sketches of Yomi and Yakou that I've been meaning to add to this set for ages but haven't been able to bring myself to refine them ;v; Makes me happy when people recognize the Raincode merch at cons tho! I'm really excited for Kodaka's new game too, I haven't played the demo yet!
#i think raincode just didnt have the same grip as DR for me#while i enjoyed it a lot and the general plot kept me hooked i think there were plot points that i wish had been explored more#and the ending was a bit predictable to me which doesnt necessarily make it bad but it set it up to be very shocking and then it was kinda#like yeah... saw that coming ages ago#i think there was a lot i wanted from the premise of the game that it just didnt provide which tbf happens quite often in DR too#but i think the biggest thing is that the characters in raincode feel a bit one dimensional and dont really get devloped as much as id like#now i played before the DLC content was released and have yet to play the DLC so ik that the charas get more fleshed out in that but the#game felt a little bit incomplete to me without that#i think dr appeals to me so well bc the main plot of the game allows for extremely strong archetypes of characters so even when theyre bein#comically over the top or die off early there's still a lot of room for personal headcanons and theories#but raincode misses the mark on that just a tiny bit#perhaps its also just that the cast is so small too#i like the dr murder mysteries bc whether im attached to the victim or murderer or hate their guts im personally invested in the trials#with raincode i didnt like that most of the mysteries felt so impersonal and the NPCs more often than not were generic#it def removed a layer of investment for me#ALL THAT TO SAY. I DONT DISLIKE RAINCODE#like i said i really enjoyed it and i think chapter 3?? Or whichever chapter they infiltrate the school in was my favorite specifically bc#it actually does kinda hit the mark with having NPC's with proper designs and also i really like desuhiko and his ability despite him being#the “pervert” archetype#all of this is mostly reflection on why it doesnt have as much of a vice grip as danganronpa has on me even after all these years#but as a game it was really fun to play and i did enjoy the overall storyline#i think yomi mightve been my next kokichi if his writing didnt flop so hard towards end game#he was so my type of character and then he just kinda. ended up doing nothing.#also i think makoto is ugly. no offense. send tweet#askibble#OH ONE MORE THING i really enjoyed the initial chapter and how the game opens up but im really mad that they didnt call back to the prologu#detectives at all#like i really thought maybe they'd at least haunt the narrative but nooppee#i really like that one girl pucci. or wahtegver her name was#ive been wanting to replay it recently tbh
