Yeah. Plus, everyone PLAYED their characters. From their conception, to the stories, to the jokesā€” you get cuts to cast members wondering what their characters would say and everything. (ā€œwhats a song about tables?ā€ ā€œthis is a grandma doing it wrong, soā€¦ā€ etc. even with ally, they were making fun of their friend, which is meant for people who know the person in question.) They were having fun, trying to guess what sense of humor matched their friendsā€™, and then thereā€™s justā€¦ this random guy whoā€™s just saying whatever. The character of ā€œstevenā€ could be completely divorced from ā€œtop snakeā€ and almost nothing about how steven was played would change. It felt really weak and disappointing, and pulled attention away from the chemistry the cast has together. We donā€™t get any ā€œwhat would steven say?ā€ or anything. And the choice to include a guy with no personal connection to the cast during a game where the players are relying on how well they know their friends to guess who is whoā€¦ felt really weird. AND have that guy make all the important game altering choicesā€¦?
I feel like itā€™d be much better if it turned out Sam was the ratfish, and someone else was faking being Sam. (The guest, maybe? Idk.) Then he could use ā€œIā€™ve been here the WHOLE TIME!ā€ as a reveal. The big twist would be that the host is a player instead.
And have the winner be determined some other way, like whoever got the most laughs, or let the cast collectively rank their favorites.
I really enjoyed the Ratfish. However, I don't think the person who played the ratfish was a good fit for the role and I disagree completely with his favourite characters (I love granma) and the ending feels very unsatisfying, especially since Rekha guessed every person correctly before the game ended and got nothing for it in the end. The ratfish just came off as kind of boring and the choice to not reveal him was very confusing to me. I think that Katie is great and she was amazing in the episode (everyone was), but in my heart, Rekha and Zac absolutely should have won.

Funniest bit of the dnd movie is Xenk clearly being an NPC the DM introduced for lore and plot purposes whoā€™s a competent fighter because of course he is, his reputation and backstory require it. But whoopsies the DM made him too powerful, the whole party likes him, and now they want him to come with to fight the BBEG which will completely and utterly fuck up the encounter balance
So instead of there being any actual plot reason he canā€™t join Xenk just says ā€œI canā€™t. This is something only you can do.ā€ And then walks off, never to interact with the party again because the DM just knows those little shits will find a way to use their OP creation against them

I hope this game knows that I have never blocked or deflected a single attack in my entire life and by god I don't intend to start now. I'm running this shit in my usual fromsoftware style (I dodge or I die I will not sit meekly cowering behind my shield waiting for the end to come I shall meet it head-on on the field of glorious combat). living on adrenaline and i-frames. L1 might as well not exist to me. ah yes. the coward button. I've heard tell of it. the button for people afraid to die. for people unwilling to tank a lethal blow to the face for no reason when it's totally avoidable if you use the game mechanics the devs have handed you. you know. like a real man

(So you donā€™t have to deal with all the annoying ads on The Mirrorā€™s website, hereā€™s the whole article interview)
EXCLUSIVE: David Tennant reveals his wife Georgia's role) in his 'huge' Rivals series decision
By Nicola Methven
ā€œDavid Tennant says he jumped at the chance to star in Jilly Cooperā€™s 1980s bonkbuster Rivals - because his wife said it would be ā€œsensationalā€.
The former Doctor Who star said she was thrilled when the first script arrived. ā€œI told Georgia and she was convinced that this was something I had to be involved with,ā€ he explains. ā€œShe said, ā€˜This series is going to be huge. This is going to be exactly what the country needs, exactly what the world needs.ā€™
"She knew the books from her teenage years, as I understand, and knew that this was going to make sensational television.ā€
He duly accepted the role of Lord Tony Baddingham, one of the showā€™s main villains and was delighted when Georgia eventually got to watch the episodes, and loved them.
"Her reaction was so positive and so joyous," he says. "I know when she's being genuine."
Tony is a grammar school boy with a chip on his shoulder about not being a proper toff. His character runs a regional TV station facing franchise renewal and has a dependable upper-crust wife, played by Sherwood's Claire Rushbrook, but is also having a very steamy affair with the new TV executive he's lured over from New York (Nafessa Williams).
The actor, 53, argues that poor old Tony is just horribly misunderstood. "From the inside, no character believes they're a villain, do they? I think Tony's motivations are very clear. He's very easy to understand in many ways. Tony sees himself as hard done by and someone who's just struggling to survive and to win."
While he can remember the 80s quite clearly, Tenant says that filming Rivals felt very much like being on a period drama. "It's almost like being on the set of a Dickens novel," he muses.
"The 80s seems quite recent history to me, but once you start recreating that world, you realise it's actually very different. That's wonderful fun to film - to be on a time capsule of a set is glorious."
As the Doctor he got to time-travel all over the place in the TARDIS but Tenant says he loved spending time in the 80s, not least because of the music. When you're a teenager at the time, a lot of it, however good it is, is uncool, and therefore you're not really allowed to like it," he says. "Whereas now, as a jaded 53-year-old, I can just go, 'Oh, do you know what I loved? A-ha'."
And what else did he love? "I didn't have to ride a horse, which was a mercy, because I'm a little bit allergic."
Tenant admits that filming the incredibly saucy bedroom scenes was a bit awkward but he felt there was safety in numbers thanks to the huge number of them. Barely any of the cast don't end up getting involved in one way or another.
"| mean, sex scenes are never comfortable, you know? But again, because everyone was in the same boat, there was a lot of discussion about, 'When are you doing that scene?' and 'Have vou done that yet?'
He believes it's fine for Rivals to be labelled a ā€œbonkbuster" - it's full of sex at the end of the day - but only if it's said with due respect for what Dame Jilly achieved with the Rutshire Chronicles. "There are a generation of readers who were so influenced by her, and for whom these novels meant so much, it means that that writing is obviously better than some would have you believe," he says. "The way she writes character is timeless, and people having sex is pretty timeless. So these books have been tenacious for a reason." The actor says an early scene where the pathologically competitive Tony leaps from his helicopter onto the croquet lawn is his favourite career moment so far.
"That hole-in-one, I would like you to know, was probably the greatest day of my professional life," he laughs. Instructed by the director to "whack it" from 30 feet away he was told the cameras would keep running until he managed it. "I thought the crew are gonna hate me by take 402," he remembers. "And I nailed it on take four. I've never felt more pleased with myself than that moment. I felt like a sporting God."ā€

I really want to see a more fucked up version of Charlie in canon. Like, okay, I am a die-hard for sweet bubbly girls in media. But I always see how some people make Charlie actually, oh I dunno... demonic? And it's so refreshing for her type of character. I could honestly see her having low empathy (and we kinda see this with how she handled Angel's situation or even Vaggie's nervousness about taking control on an activity). An exploration of that trait (if it was intended) would be interesting to see for a protagonist, especially when her main goal is about helping others. I would love to see her actually have a level of difficulty in understanding others' feelings from the other residents, sinners, and even her father.
But give her a fucked up side. Not a "she gets more power when she's angey uwu", but a "oh, she's a little fucked in the head". It would give so much to her character that she just doesn't have.
@/murmurmurena (don't wanna bother them so slash there we go) has some fun ideas with Charlie. I highly encourage people to check their stuff out! So many fun dark ideas with her character while also still keeping to her canon personality pretty well! Personally, I think Charlie being a bit more naive to her own messed up traits would work best but her also being aware of these traits can make for some interesting character for her.
THIS FIC, "A Game Between You and I". RIGHT HERE WITH THE FIRST CHAPTER. A bit of spoil for the fic here: but I love how they handled Charlieā€™s absolute ignorance as to why the idea of Russian roulette is horrifying to Angel Dust. It doesn't feel like her being intentionally malicious or aware that she's the odd man out here. This is also a pretty old fic going by only the pilot, but the point still stands that it was such a fun take for her character!
Charlie is one of my favorite characters in the show in part of the POTENTIAL she could have as being the most bubbly sweetheart character while also being the most messed up character in the show. I can't say I have strong confidence with the show's writing and fully expect them to stick with Charlie being the "nice girl but oh no, don't get her angry or she gets scarwy". Which isn't bad for a character mind you, there's just so much more potential to Charlie outside of that trope, especially when you get into the theories of her either being a doll, Roo's biological daughter, or what have you. And for the MAIN CHARACTER of the show, it would be not only interesting but also bring the spotlight back to her.
There's really no question that the side characters steal the show, particularly all the male characters. If I'm honest, Charlie does not feel like she gets a lot of love from the show itself when she's supposed to be the main character. She feels far more flat compared to the rest of the characters (again, the male cast in this "female-lead" show has more depth than most of the female cast currently. I wouldn't be pointing this tidbit concerning the genders of characters if it weren't for the fact Viv defended Helluva's lack of development with their female cast by saying "Hazbin is a female-lead show and Helluva is a male-lead" and Hazbin ended up with it not feeling female lead (to me) and the male cast just completely stealing the show. I don't normally care about gender stuff, especially since I do personally lean interest towards male characters. But using one show as a defense for poor development of the female characters, and then that show not really holding up with no very interesting well-developed feeling female characters irritates me. It's just very clear that these shows don't seem to care much about the female cast :/)
If you like how Charlie is written that's totally fine. PERSONALLY, I just think they're missing so much opportunity with her character by just making her the standard female character type. I honestly don't have a lot of faith they'll actually do something with Charlie's character though. She's a pretty static character in S1 being the same from start to end. Not changing or learning anything to create any development. What does the end of season Charlie do that start of season Charlie wouldn't do? Fight back? Because we see with the pilot (which is the ā€œfirst episodeā€) that Charlie does fight people if pushed like with Katie Killjoy and even Valentino. Static characters can work in media depending on the show or their role. But Charlie is the MC of a show about ā€œbettering one's selfā€. So to have her as a static with not a lot of strong dilemmas for herself (like we see with Angel Husk Al and even Vox) seems silly. Plus, considering Hazbin is telling a whole story and it's not a fun episodic thing, characters are expected to grow on some level. Or else, what was the point of their hero's journey?
#I honestly have a lot of problems with Hazbin's storytelling#That the limited time of doing plot doesn't even help it and shouldn't be used to shield the show from criticisms#Especially when you can find the same issues in Helluva Boss that has no excuse with the writing (though it's getting a bit better)#I love this show but goodness gracious it makes me have a tangent about it#Charlie's unimpactful character writing just being one of MANY issues#Hopefully the crew take all the criticisms into account for S3#S2 if possible would be nice but they probably had it all scripted by the time S1 was airing.#No shame on the female cast either they're fine. But when you compare them to the given depth of characters like Angel Husk Alastor and Vox#They're pretty lackluster. Vaggie's probably the closest to a female character with a lot of layers we've seen in the show#And she wasn't done very well with being essentially just ā€œCharlie's GFā€ with not much identity outside of that explored much#Some of this may be more personal takes but it's frustrating. Again I don't normally care about gender stuff in media#It was just the excuse to Millie and Loona lacking development that bothers me#Like Hazbin is supposed to make up Helluva's poor writing of their main female leads#Loona got a bit of love with the Bee ep and Verosika and Octavia are pretty good. Particularly V with her relationship with Blitz#Whenever I start talking about aspects of Hazbin's writing I always end up ranting a bit (ā„ ā„ā€¢ā„Ļ‰ā„ā€¢ā„ ā„)ā„#Celtrist#cel rambles#hazbin hotel#hazbin hotel charlie#charlie morningstar#hazbin critique#hazbin criticism#hazbin critical#hazbin hotel critical#hazbin hotel criticism#hazbin hotel critique#hazbin hotel rant#You can really love something and still be critical with it#I do it out of love I swear#You're not in the Sonic fandom for like 22 yrs and don't learn to be critical of the media you enjoy lol

Musical Touken Ranbu: Hanakage Yureru Tomizu (The Shadows of Flowers Swaying In The Whetwater) english subs
About a month later than I'd have liked, but here they are! Even if its writing is a bit more messy than usual, its core is very solid. Of course, Chougi's live song more than got away with me (it's got Japanese Sign Language), so if you could, please watch it gently.
I dedicate this to the friends of mine who love Ichigo Hitofuri. May you be unapologetically yourself, right the way you are.
Keep in mind that this is only the subtitle file, timed and tled to the DMM senshuuraku and BD/DVD. The archive version will have a talk at the start, so the starting times of the subs will have to be delayed accordingly.
You can find the subtitles and my TL document here!

Honestly? Good anime imo! I really enjoyed Aileen. I enjoyed Claude. I enjoyed Isaac and Keith and Rachel and Almond and Ribbon. I enjoyed Belzebuth and the flock of ducks (Walt/Kyle/Auguste) and Jasper.
#i'm the villainess so i'm taming the final boss#aileen lauren d'autriche#hey so i love her and that show was really cute#i really enjoyed the interactions and despite the huge cast for a 12 episode show i was endeared to most of them#however im also just incredibly biased to liking side characters so you can have a small role and i love you#but i really enjoyed how things that happened in like episode 3 for instance w keith were resolved#BUT in a later episode he brings it up again and how he still felt guilty#and i just really like that while people do bad things it shows motives and stuff#and those that deserve forgiveness (keith) can get it even though it isnt like... full redemption cause he still holds it against himself#and then those that are undeserving get to go to prison in ep12#im on an otome kick lately bc i havent been able to game much due to low energy#but i managed to do some otome-ing#so then i was also like yeah time to watch an otome isekai bc im living up to my outed at work weeb life#get you a villainess who can cross dress for four episodes and dress up like a duck and kick butt#technically there is more of her boysona in more than the 4 but there are just like#5-8 she presents as a boy For The Plot#sorry this show has actually absorbed all my brain for a couple days if im honest#also i have like zero energy and probably will have low energy for the week bc holidays stress me out even tho#we do not really celebrate much at my house and its really casual#its just so much busier on the roads and driving is exhausting

i would like to say my ideal PJO adaptation (if i was being physically forced against my will to have to pick a live action adaptation over an animated one for some reason) would be a combo like writing of the musical + casting of the show + visuals of the movies
BUT the show actually does have the playwright for the musical as one of the major writers for like three episodes and that did nothing for it. so...
#pjo#riordanverse#pjo tv crit#i do love the casting for the musical lots and lots though#it was really good#i do also have some nitpicks for show casting but they're largely inconsequential#like majority i very much enjoy and think are cast well#i only have one i'd say im actually disappointed with and that's Poseidon. idk he just feels. bland??? does that make sense?#like idk maybe it's the costuming but im not getting Sea God *or* Fishing Dad from him#like i think i kinda see what they were going for and i saw some gifs of him in another show where he plays a pirate and its like#okay. *little* bit better. but idk im just not getting Poseidon from it#in general most of the immortals in the show dont feel very Immortal(tm) but thats definitely mostly just the writing/show itself#not any reflection of the casting#my only other two are i would have liked plus sized Clarisse. i am VERY sad we didnt get that#Dior is a VERY good Clarisse though so i'm not too upset about it. i like her Clarisse energy. the yelling is fantastic.#my most controversial pjo tv take is im still meh on Walker. like he's fine. but like he's kind of Just Fine to me so far#its probably mostly the writing being bad but he hasnt grown on me as Percy yet. i can tell he has the energy though in interviews n stuff#and the main trio dynamic in interviews and stuff is *very* good. i just wish the show writing was better#because the casting IS very good but they have so little to work with. you can really tell theyre trying their best#i like to joke the show would be better if they just set the cast loose in the woods doing in-character improv#like its clear basically all of them know their characters SUPER well. id watch 8 episodes of in the woods pjo cosplay improv.
