My opinion on the Latino Jason Todd headcanon
While I do understand ppl's criticism of the latino Jason todd headcanon and how its kind of racist to make the kid with parents with drug problems as the latino one, to me its more of a reclamation BECAUSE of DC's racism.
Read any 80s/90s batman issue that covers gang violence and drugs, most if not ALL of the criminals are poc; black people and latinos visibly make up the majority in the poorer neighbourhoods in Gotham. Aside from the caricaturist way they r drawn/speak, its not THAT weird cause its a reflection of irl big cities where immigrants and marginalised ppl are often forced to live in such situations, (like most of my dominican family lives in the bronx... it aint racist to say dominicans tend to flock there), BUT...the weird part is when the second a sympathetic character comes from that area, he's white and has a name thats "too fancy for the streets".
Tumblr media
Obviously, Jason was created to look like the old robin, so I can't say that the whole "diamond in the rough" situation was purposely a tad bit racist, but its still a lil weird (especially with bruce's comment).
If Jason were a part of the overwhelming demographic in his area, the good-kid-in-a-bad-area trope has less connotations. DC is currently trying to fix this trope is by making crime alley whiter, which isn't bad but they could've just yk... humanised the non-white residents.
I also feel like the messed up way Jason was treated post-death is what makes him so relatable to latino readers. His tragic story of dying while trying to save his only living relative is turned into a lesson for newer vigilantes. Jason's particular disdain for abusers on a few occasions was twisted (by both writers and characters) into him always being dumb, reckless, cocky, angry and disobedient, always violent, never having been able to get over his upbringing. None of those things were true (he was a normal level of reckless and cocky like every other robin, not more), but its an easier narrative to digest compared to how it was in reality; a kid who worked so hard and loved even harder, died to save a woman who couldn't care less about his existence. He was an emotional AND smart kid who wanted so bad to help others get better but was remembered as too emotional (in a bad way).
THIS is the reality for many latino diasporas in day to day life; Theres no question that Latino culture is passionate and emotive, but people from other cultures assume that it is followed by instead of logical. both can coexist. emotion does not mean u have no logic. Emotions can be irrational but they aren't inherently that way, and I wouldn't say that the moments where Jason lashed out as a teenager were irrational (in og runs, not rewrites post red hood), they were mostly done to protect someone (going crazy on abusers, disobeying batman to save sheila, that time he got into a fight at school to defend his friend).
A lot of euro-centric culture is OBSESSED with the idea that rationality is separate from feelings and emotions, but not crying at a funeral doesn't mean you're better than those who do. Emotions are the basis of human ethics and morals, they define the way we interact as a collective and ignoring them does not mean they are not there. Theres no winner to a contest of who can feel the less. And the way Jason's emotions are treated (pre-rh, hes definitely unhinged afterwards lol) is so in line with how white culture tends to punish those who aren't ashamed to feel.
I TOTES UNDERSTAND that some ppl who headcanon Jason as latino are doing it for the complete opposite of reasons, like "oh here some angry emotional guy with druggie parents, haha must be latino". Its weird. I dont like it. And its only brought up so he can swear in spanish in some rlly bad text post where his emotions are getting out. But to me there's so much potential for metanarrative and commentary on how latinos are treated in media that can be exemplified through the way his character is treated. Being latino would add SO MUCH DEPTH to his character and his dynamic with the others.

since @sketchy-scribs-n-doods asked why birth certificates are racist:
preface: read this post about eugenics so that I don't have to write that overview again.
anywho! the very very short version is that there was a guy named Walter Ashby Plecker (hereafter "the Plecker fucker") who was a doctor in Virginia in the late 1800s/early 1900s. like he was born right around when the Civil War ended and his family owned slaves, if you want to get an idea of the time and place we're talking about.
the Plecker fucker, along with a couple of his good buddies John Powell and Ernest Sevier Cox(1) from the Anglo-Saxon Club(2), wrote and lobbied for a law called the Racial Integrity Act (incidentally, one of the blueprints the Nazis used for their own laws), which did a couple of things:
it legally categorized every person into either "white" or "colored," with "white" being only people with a completely unbroken and provable white European heritage – with a teeny tiny exception for people who were less than 1/16th Native American that he was bullied into including(3) – and "colored" being literally everything else, with no specificity as to whether it meant Black or Asian or Native American or whatever;
it prohibited white people from marrying colored people (though notably not banning having sex with them: we're talking about a guy whose family owned slaves here, so you can do the math on that)
it allowed for the sterilization of certain undesirable people, such as the mentally ill; and, most importantly for our purpose:
it required all births and marriages to be registered in a big state-wide database, with the races of all parties listed.
and he also set himself up as the first guy in charge of that registry, so that it would be done exactly the way he wanted it.
prior to this, if you could get away with passing as white, you were (generally) treated as white. this was to prevent any white-passing mixed race people from marrying into white society (because their birth certificate records would show that their parents had nonwhite heritage), and eventually eliminate mixed race people, period.
now, obviously birth certificates weren't in common use before this law, so at least the first wave of people affected by the law could still (in theory) lie about their ethnicity and establish themselves as white on their birth certificates, thus allowing them to continue marrying "real" white people.
not a problem! the Plecker fucker fancied himself a bit of a genealogist (meaning he thought everyone with the same last name was related, somehow), so he'd just go in and edit people's records to say "colored," invalidating their marriages in the process, and ordered all of the people under him to do the same. like, there's a letter he sent out to the county-level people that was like, "anyone with the last name Collins [yes, really] is actually mixed race, DO NOT LET THEM GET MARRIED TO WHITE PEOPLE, EDIT ALL THEIR RECORDS."(4)
outside of the obvious negative effects of the law in general not allowing interracial marriages (until it was overturned by Loving v. Virginia in 19-fucking-67) and sterilizing anyone disabled or "feebleminded," him going in and literally erasing Native heritage from records has prevented Virginian Native Americans from being able to claim federal tribal recognition, because it's all just "white" or "colored," which could mean anything nonwhite.
anyway, that's why birth certificates are racist. they were made up by a racist guy to do more racism. and then that racist guy got hit by a car and died.
I stg this is the short version. the longer version was idk how many pages before I melted into a depressed puddle of goo and almost flunked out of my senior year of college.
(1) Ernest Sevier Cox was a weird fucking dude in that he was really good friends with Marcus motherfucking Garvey, to the point that they attended each other's events, dedicated books to each other, and wrote each other a lot of letters even after Garvey was deported to Jamaica (and Cox personally tried to get Garvey released from jail when he was imprisoned for mail fraud). This was partly because white nationalism and black separatism accomplished the same ultimate goals (i.e. Black people leaving the US) from different angles, but I think they just also genuinely liked each other? For some reason??
(2) Basically the KKK but for genteel, refined, upper-class people instead of violent, disorderly peasants (yes, they legit disliked the KKK because it was a poor person thing). Also, I can't find it again, but at one point when I was researching all this in college, I was looking through old school newspapers and either William & Lee or William & Mary had a junior Anglo-Saxon Club, sort of like a Young Republicans, and one of their contributions to the student newspaper was a piece about how they definitely weren't racist and how dare they be accused of racism, they just didn't want blacks or whites mixing! How is that racist? (Yes, they used the word "racist," and I have no idea what their definition of racism was, if it wasn't what they were doing) Anyway, I think about that a lot.
(3) This is informally called the Pocahontas Exception, because a lot of really, really influential, prominent and rich Virginians actually took a lot of pride in claiming to be descended from Pocahontas and John Rolfe (even if they weren't), and without the exception, they'd all be classified as "colored." Plecker didn't want any exceptions at all (he was, at the very least, not a hypocrite about what he thought "white" meant), but given that some of the people the law would make "colored" would potentially be voting on the law, he had to include the exception or risk it not being passed at all.
(4) The reason I even got into this subject in the first place is that one of my family tree names is on that list and we're pretty sure they moved to Kentucky because of it, but it doesn't necessarily mean they're related to us OR that they were white-passing mixed-race people: they could well have been just plain white people who happened to have the same surname.

Alright, anon, I'm not posting your messages in 3 different posts so lets just break this down here
[Indented text is the anon message. This is going to be long as hell]
butch women and trans men are not oppressed for being masculine, they’re oppressed for being gender nonconforming females (not saying trans men are women, just stating how a patriarchal society sees them).
So, firstly, the thing I'm talking about isn't actually oppression on a systemic level. You're talking about how non-queer society sees us, I'm talking about how other queer people treat us. Butch lesbians have been pushed out of sapphic spaces for a loooong time. Butch lesbians are seen as scary, mean, violent, and inherently abusive within queer spaces. Which stems from a demonization of masculinity. I should know this. I identified as a butch bisexual sapphic for years. I know what this feels like. I was once told that people with "high T levels" are more likely to be abusive, which includes me because I'm intersex and have naturally high T.
Secondly, maybe don't try to define trans men's oppression for them? I'm not a trans guy either but I experience a lot of the same bullshit from society that they do and it's not just "being a gender non-conforming female" it's a lot more complex than that. And also just, in general, a very weird way to say it.
i’ve never heard a masc cis gay man complain about being welcome or not in queer spaces, to the point in which feminine cis gay men have complained about them writing “no sissies, masc4masc” in their bio on dating apps.
I have. I've heard plenty of stories about masc gay men and specifically bi men in queer spaces feeling very unwelcome because they were being treated like a threat. And some gay men being transphobic (because s*ssy is a transmisogynistic slur in this case) or having a preference for other mascs also isn't indicative of mascs being treated well?
Like I know a lot of butch4butches that have that preference specifically because they feel unwelcome or are treated badly by femmes. I don't know how you personally not hearing about it or what some people put on their dating profile proves here.
Also your complete lack of acknowledgement of bi men in this makes me doubt even more that your perspective on this is a valid one because that tells me you either don't know any bi men or you ignore them to such an extent that you forgot they existed.
claiming misandry or anti-masculinity exists is the same as saying that heterophobia exists because straight trans people are treated like shit.
Never said that misandry on its own exists, don't know where you got that.
People are treated like shit based on the fact that they are masc all the time. That is a thing that happens. I have experienced it, I've heard so many stories from other queer people who experience it. I don't know how saying "no you don't, I'm gonna tell you what you really experience" is at all an alright thing to do.
it’s not heterophobia, it’s transphobia/homophobia. in the same way that masc afab people being treated terribly is misogyny and homophobia, and has literally zero to do with misandry/“anti-masculinity”. if anti-masculinity or misandry existed, even straight cis heterosexual men would suffer from it.
So, like, I'm talking about anti-masculinity in the queer community. "If this is true here then it must be true with this different thing" is a really bad argument because you could use that to invalidate anything that is true.
For example: The definition of racism is "prejudice based on race" which technically that definition doesn't exclude white people but you don't see anyone arguing "if racism existed, even white people would suffer from it" or trying to say it's not really about race just to exclude white people. Like, obviously you can't be racist to white people and anyone who claims you can be is just making a bad-faith argument. I am looking pointedly at you when I say that, btw.
also, a lot of radfems are gender nonconforming women/butches and literally campaign for women to drop conformity to the patriarchal concept of femininity. gender critical conservatives are not radical feminists and y’all need to stop conflating the two because no matter what jk rowling says, in practice and in theory, they have very little to do with one another (and hate each other, at that).
There's actually two sides of the "radfem" spectrum and they're both just as bad. There's the ones who hate gender non-conforming women, specifically the ones who go on HRT, and claim they're gender traitors. And then there's the ones which you describe who usually shame women for liking feminine things. Both their beliefs usually go against the whole purpose of gender-nonconformity which is to be yourself and do what makes you happy, society be damned. People who are truly GNC don't judge others for presenting in a way that is typically considered "conforming" to their gender and don't campaign for other people to be like them?
Also... Are you defending radical feminism? Are you a radfem? Because that would make a whole lotta sense.
and one last thing,
Just so you know, this is how this anon began the final message. It is the longest one. Really said "one last thing" then sent me a whole 4 paragraphs.
please stop acting like “people who are attracted to men” are demonized in queer spaces, what a slap in the face to lesbians. the moment they have a little visibility y’all claim they are privileged and somehow bossing around/discriminating against gay men.
Never said that lesbians were the oppressor in this situation. There is no oppressor, it's fully lateral mistreatment. And like.. it's not about just gay men.
Bi women have been pushed out of and demonized within sapphic spaces for decades, actually. I should know. Because again. I'm a bi sapphic. We are seen as a range of things. Pretenders, abusers, invaders, the source of lesbian oppression, tricksters that try to force lesbians to fuck men, or just disgusting. Traitors. Again.
My own mother knows this because before she married my dad she was in sapphic spaces in the 90s. From her personal accounts, bi women were seen as the enemy and a lot of lesbians... weren't even lesbians. They were political lesbians. Women who rejected their attraction to men and only dated other women. Some of them were even straight. And they were considered more of lesbians than bi women were.
Even in the modern age, bi women are expected to shit on their own sexuality. They are expected to say "ew I hate that I like men" and never date or fuck a man to be accepted in queer spaces. Again, I know this because I'M LITERALLY BI.
gay men are literally the face of this community and continually disrespect sapphic/lesbians (see the billie lyric controversy, see the way they’re treating chappel roan, see the way they keep calling women b*tches with no regards on whether we like it or not, see the way they keep fraternizing with straight women that would literally cower in fear if they saw a butch lesbian in real life).
Yeah so misogynistic gay men are in fact a problem but I'm not talking about strictly gay men. I'm talking about the way masculine perceived traits are demonized within queer circles. Come on. I'm pretty sure cis gay men were barely talked about in my original post, why are you fixating on this so hard?
just because somebody who has literally no power over gay men whatsoever and has been traumatized by men her whole life airs out her frustration with her literal lifelong oppressors via tweet or tumblr post, doesn’t mean that suddenly the patriarchy doesn’t exist anymore and has not armed lesbians especially for the past thousands of years.
So I'm talking about the people telling me I'm inherently abusive or more likely to assault people based on the fact that I have high T levels... I'm not talking about people venting about their abuse at the hands of men.
I also never said the patriarchy doesn't exist... I feel like this message isn't about me anyone.
stop painting them as the mean bosses of the community when actually they are a very small, demonized minority who suffers every day at the hands of anyone in the world who likes men (straight women, gay men, even bi women like me).
Fascinating... So... I'm not doing that. Lesbians are not the "mean bosses" of the community. Some are just treating random people shitty for perceived masculine traits with no bearing on truth or reality. A lot of them aren't even lesbians. Like I never said this was a specifically lesbian issue. I said there was a problem in the community in general. So like... all people... not just lesbians.
Also, genuine question: How are you oppressing lesbians for being bi?
it’s such a warped, harmful view and a big stereotype, at that (lesbians are man-haters who hate women’s boyfriends!! what a progressive statement!! never has it been said before, and especially not by homophobic conservatives).
I mean I just didn't say that. I don't know how to respond to this because I just straight up didn't say that.
I just... This isn't about me anymore is it?
Who hurt you?
have some respect for once, a lesbian literally threw the first brick at Stonewall.
So... uh... we don't actually know for 100% certain who threw the first brick. Some say it was Marsha P. Johnson. Some say it was "gay street kids". Even if it was a lesbian... so? Just because one lesbian did a good thing doesn't mean other lesbians are incapable of being dicks to other people?
Idk, man, I never said that lesbians were the source of all evil. I just made a post about my own personal experiences and the experiences of people I know and have seen being talked about. I'm a bi, intersex, non-binary sapphic. I get shit on for the things that people perceive as masculine traits that I have and the fact that I like men. This happens a lot.
I don't know why me saying "hey please stop implying that there is something in my blood that makes me inherently abusive" is lesbophobic. Why is this about lesbians, actually? You made it about lesbians. Why are you using lesbians, a group you've stated you're not a part of, as a gotcha against me? Why are you using lesbians to silence me about my own experiences? Why is that okay?

Thank you for writing up that post about the engagement of the alleged themes in campaign 3. I've seen the argument for them and honestly that plus some of the C3 stuff has almost made me feel weird playing a cleric in this setting. The implications just are so unfortunate if it really is the angle they're going for?
Hi anon,
So I have two thoughts on this. The first is that like...it's actually really difficult to make a story set in a fantasy world that deals with racism and colonialism because you have to develop fantasy racism and colonialism, which is a really fucking unpleasant headspace to exist in! And then, if you do, you have what I alluded to in tags on a different post today, where you will get people up in arms about how D&D or an actual play show or a fantasy work depicts orcs or goblins as racist or antisemitic stereotypes and then it's crickets when it comes to any real-world support of black or Jewish people. Chuck Klosterman said sci fi is philosophy for stupid people, and I disagree, but I do think speculative fiction is frequently sociology, anthropology, and geopolitics for stupid people, particularly if it's a setting with a lot of magic and fantasy races vs say, works like Butler's Patternist series, or a lot of Latin American magical realism, or (girl who just finished Disco Elysium voice) Disco Elysium, where there's a lot more grounding in our reality. I think this post covers the concept of real vs mythic, and I think the Critical Role stuff with the gods is in the realm of the mythic and people are trying to force it into a very human narrative. And yeah, the implications are really unfortunate if you do.
I think it's worth noting that a lot of high-profile (and beloved) TTRPG/AP projects from actual people from colonized cultures imagine a world in which they were never colonized (I am far from an expert but just off the top of my head: Coyote and Crow; Into the Motherlands; Desiquest; Islands of Sina Una) rather than make a story where a bunch of mostly white characters explain how they are the victims of colonization from two separate sources and only really focus on the one that's way less obvious and true but don't worry they're GONNA FIX IT, maybe, idk, should we open this door? I just don't know! golly gee this is tough!
The second related thought is just that D&D isn't a game that is well-suited to dismantling complex political structures either on a narrative or literal level and also it's pretend so you can do what you want forever. I mean don't call other people slurs while playing it but if we're talking in-world? I genuinely think that people who are unabashed murderhobos in D&D are often perfectly fine, generous, and lovely people in real life, and a lot of people who are like "I unionized the goblins! We're playing non-combat D&D! I de-escalate every situation" are often the sort of person to claim it's ableist to suggest that perhaps you should try to use reusable shopping bags. Like, are you living your values in your real life and capable of critical thought? then who cares if your D&D character is kind of a dick, or the show you are watching doesn't align perfectly with what you believe? And I find people who get overly hung up on how good and virtuous they are for their media consumption tend to be compensating for a lack, or at best a deep insecurity, about how they comport themselves in their real life.
so anyway yeah if the cast actually is like "yes i see this as a decolonialist work" I am going to have Thoughts and Pretty Harsh Critiques but to grant the CR cast the benefit of the doubt here, I think it's just...a mythic, epic scale story that draws from interesting sources (creation myths, the idea of a world created as an envious reflection by a sealed hunger) and didn't come together very well. I cannot extend that same benefit of the doubt to those fans who have argued otherwise, however.

As Black women we need to stop saying we don't get treated like women, we do because we aren't treated like Black men and more and more i see white people taking that sentiment as confirmation that we're treated that was because we are more masculine and not masculinsation of Black women being a tool for abuse, rape, violence aggression and neglect. They think our body invites violence by being strange and the onus isn't on the perpetrator.
The way i know we aren't treated like men is "lefty" whites will hear someone say a Black man is big and scary to justify police brutality and understand its racism and an excuse for violent behavuiour against someone Black but for us, they start talking about our bodies as being those things.
When "lefty" whites hear someone call Black women masculine or aggressive they take it as an opportunity to treat us a pitiful creatures that were made animalistic and aggressive and see the phrase " Black women don't fit white femininity" as a factual statement about Blackness and whiteness. Women's bodies are often political pieces for the 'greater good'. You wouldn't see lib or lefty white people try the same thing with Black men being seen as aggressive and them using buzzwords to say " yes" without push back
The irrelevance of our humanity compared to Black men could only be done to us because we're women, it could only be done because no one takes women seriously. Black issues are treated as a male only issue so Black women issues are never treated properly, we're there for other people to reference before they talk about actual people - themselves. Its how we got someone saying Black women have higher testosterone levels and when asked for proof just lied. They came to that conclusion because PCOS is more common among Black women ( apparently ) and because most of you are weird about intersex people you see any hormone issue is being intersex automatically ( i'll never forget you dumbasses trying to say PCOS is an intersex issue because hormones ) while saying hormones are irrelevant unless you're a Black woman or intersex then you're a modern 3rd gender because it makes others feel more feminine and that's what solidarity is
Its like we say misogynoir means people don't take us seriously but we're shocked when that happens and people carry on the millennia long tradition of using women as a public resource and speaking on our behalf

Do you have any unpopular opinions about mlp fim? For instance, "Newbie Dash" is probably my favorite Rainbow Dash episode since I think it's the only episode that actually had her suffer some consequences due to her own hubris.
Oh, I have a few. For one I think Fluttercord as a concept is misogynistic as hell and a huge disservice to Fluttershy's character if not downright fuckin creepy. I used to be neutral on the ship but it's only gotten worse and worse with time. Another is just. I don't think Starlight Glimmer shoulda gotten all that screentime. I like a lot of the eps shes in, especially with Trixie, but I really didn't need her to be permeating through so much, feels like a strange self insert
One more for the road: I think the finale is kind of awful on a thematic and lore level. Like, emotionally wise, they reach all the high notes they could have ever wanted off the show, thats for sure, but like;
1 - I'm ideologically opposed to the idea that Cozy Glow is an irredeemable monster that belongs turned to stone or in tartarus. she's a fucking child and the writers think she's irredeemable. 2 - Generally Chrysalis Cozy and Tyrek are all a weird choice for ultimate trio for final bosses. Any of them have been their own world ending threats, I woulda preffered something new. Hell, I still think the mean 6 or at least anti Twilight coulda been a more interesting finale.
3 - If racism is THAT easy to bring back, then clearly theres an enormous systemic problem with all of the goddamn society, and oh, look at that, bc of g5, canonically we know that Equestria falls, and bc of the comics we know it falls on the lifetimes of the main 6. It's almost genious foreshadowing, how much Twilight's kingdom was built ona house of cards tbh.
4 - Celestia and Luna lose to Cozy Glow. Cozy Glow, a child alicorn, 1 v 2s them. That's unforgivable, insane, really fucking stupid.
5 - If the solution is friendship power, just like it has always fucking been, then why wasn't it the first choice to deal with the fucking problem, at this point the 38 minutes that build up to 'oh shit my friends are my power' feels completely superfluous man. Its lazy
6 - The final problem has that vibe of JKRs 'all was well' thing that glosses over some major damn problems, and well, considering the canon, even when i watched the first time I couldn't help but think I was watching a bunch of naive ass ponies trying to enjoy their final years together before Equestria fell to the damn brink. It's more bitter than sweet. Twilight Sparkle will watch all her friends die of old age hooray...!

#when henry emily burned down the pizza sim location. that was horizontal violence
i think it's sooooo funny when people say a villain character is aromantic. like, i think it generally sucks (oh, you think not feeling romantic love = being evil? cool thanks) but also it really cracks me up. you think this villain is aro? you think william afton took a break from doing all those child murders to research queer identities? does he have an aro flag in his office? one of those little ones in his pen cup? is he going to pride? sure hes a mad scientist and a serial killer but he also, unrelated, fully identifies as a loveless aro.
what a magical fiction. delightful

Re: your reblog: No idea why a lot of men don't want anything to do with a movement that was regularly comparing them to bowls of poisoned M&Ms. It'll forever be a mystery
Oh fuck, that fucking post.
Like, look. I understand the importance of communicating why women might be intimidated by men. But that was such a bad comparison. I remember it being circulated by the kinds of people I was hanging out with who would wind up becoming increasingly right-wing, and it felt like every single time there was some sort of poorly articulated point about the fear that gets ingrained into us, it would just push these guys further and further away. This is purely anecdotal, but I was in a discussion with some guys in a server who said that they'd talked with multiple guys who were just kind of vaguely anti-woke not because of any deeply held principles, but because someone on the left was mean to them or disparaged them. In nerd spaces especially, these are guys who were likely already ostracized in school for being weird and are looking for, well, a safe space. And when perceived outsiders (other nerds who are demographically different from them) come in and try and make a space more inclusive, make it safer, and call anybody who objects a bad person... there's a really big social element to that. Like yeah, there's probably misogyny or racism or homophobia that could be unpacked, but those are things you can unlearn. And the best way for these guys to unlearn these behaviors is just through contact with people who are different from them with whom they have positive experiences. It's not the whole process, mind, but it's a good first step. And simply telling someone off for being bad when they might not even fully understand why it is that they have objections will succeed in getting rid of those guys from your spaces, but where do they go from there? Not the diverse and inclusive spaces we would hope they'd go, that's for fuckin' sure.
I don't want to say that it's our jobs to be super nice to these guys all the time, because you know what? Yeah, some of them do suck, as many people of all walks of life do. They won't change their minds because they see no reason to do so. But if you have the energy to try and level with these guys and just say things in a way that isn't accusatory and is just matter-of-fact, it works better. They're more likely to see you as a whole-ass person if you're willing to engage with them as a whole-ass person. It's exhausting, and I'm not the best at it, but goddammit, I've tried, with varying results. Even if they come in swinging, they can be tripped up by a simple "why would you say that?" or "I don't get it." Challenging them in a way that's not accusatory so much as it is asking them to self-reflect. Why would you say that? Why is that offensive joke funny? Why do you think it's an appropriate thing to say to people you barely even know?
I'm not one of those people that denies the existence of the male loneliness epidemic, though I certainly do think loneliness is up with everybody, not just men. I think neuroatypical men are particularly vulnerable; people with autism aren't any more likely than NT people to believe conspiracy theories, but I definitely found myself taking the word of people who I was friendly with when they perpetuated misinformation to me about shit like AGP or ROGD because why would they lie to me? Looking back, there were definitely people who were racist in a more lowkey way that wasn't immediately detectable by me because I couldn't hear the dogwhistles. But just by virtue of being a enby in predominately queer social circles, I have people around me that were able to challenge these views and help pull me away from these ideas (and help me realize that my gender is more "woman?" rather than just "woman"). These friends allowed me to realize just how stupid they actually were. There's a lot of guys, particular straight guys, who just do not have that in their lives. The bigots are always recruiting and there's nothing they love more than disenfranchised young men who are full of misdirected anger and resentment, especially ones who might be psychologically or emotionally vulnerable and incredibly insecure about it. It's a really hard mindset to get out of, particularly when your views get more extreme, and it's also something you have to actually want to change. Admitting you've been played for a sucker by people with agendas and who don't actually give a shit about you is hard. Nobody wants to admit when they've been had.
There's always a lot of resistance whenever anybody floats the idea that hey, maybe we shouldn't automatically assume these guys are assholes when we encounter them; they might just be ignorant, and you can talk to people who are ignorant without coming across as condescending or sanctimonious. Some of them might be assholes but let them show themselves first before deciding that you can't deal with them. But men are like most people; they don't want to see themselves as fundamentally bad or wicked. Nor should they. I know a lot of women who have been hurt by men; shit, I was hurt by the same man over and over and over again and was in denial about it for decades, and it was only after leaving him that I realized just how absolutely fucked he was as a person, and how he'd never have any incentive to change, even when faced with the consequences of his incredibly selfish actions. I tried so fucking hard to get him to improve only to be met with the same rote excuses for why he couldn't, and I kept giving him grace he did not earn. But also I was trying for 21 years. But his problems are his own. Not every man is going to be like him. I've known men who are, deep down, decent people, but they pick up shitty ideas that linger around them like a stinkcloud. The good news about stinkclouds, though? You can take a shower and smell better. You do it regularly enough, you won't stink no more. It's not an immutable trait. But it definitely helps to not hang around other guys who cluster and form a larger stinkcloud. You gotta wash your ass, if you must, as Del the Funky Homosapien once said.
Fellas, you are not a poisoned bowl of M&Ms. You might just be kinda smelly and in need of a bath. You can't remove the poison from those M&Ms, but you can clean up and become the best version of yourself. A lot of us have the stink of a lot of cultural ideas we've been fed without question, and you're not a bad person for having thought these things one time; it's a long process trying to challenge and prune these ideas. But you might be a bad person if somebody tries to reach out to you and you go and roll around in pig shit and declare how much you love being stinky, while also being upset that girls don't want to talk to you on account of the stink... unless they are taught from a young age to ignore it, or they also want to just socially isolate themselves by diving headfirst into the Bog of Eternal Stench. Those women do certainly exist, but they're not going to bring out the best in you, you know?
It's not an easy process, and it's not easy to reach out to people and have the psychological wherewithal to be able to handle some potentially wild shit. But if you're the kind of person who believes in rehabilitation in the justice system, then you should be able to extend that to people who just have some really shitty ideas that they just internalized without question who might just need to hear a perspective that they haven't heard before. Not everybody can do it, but for those who can? Try. You might help keep somebody from quoting crime or suicide statistics to strangers online in an attempt to feel some semblance of power above those they see below them in the societal hierarchy. You can't force change, but you might be able to nudge them in the right direction.
I think that's the best anybody can do. Try to be as kind as patient as you can, but don't take any shit, either. Remain firm in your principles. Remove yourself if you have to. But at least try, even when it's hard, because like it or not, we need as many of these guys on our side as possible of we want to affect the kind of change we want to see in the world.
... And that's all I have to say about that.

Hello! I'm a black woman and I just wanted to say thank you to the large number of Jews who showed up for Harris. It made me feel a little less alone and a little less sad. I also wanted to say i'm sorry about the absolute nightmare levels of antisemitic bullshit going on. I don't understand how these people sat through history classes, saw the horrors that were enacted upon Jewish people time and time again, and think what they were doing is ok.
Oh god, I feel weird about being thanked for voting in like. A bare minimum of morality. And I really really don’t want what I said prior to sound like I want anyone- let alone black women- to owe/give me any thanks for that. I don’t think it’s owed. We’re all voting for our- collective- survival and benefit.
When I talk about being hopeful that other groups, especially the black creators I see talking about it, notice that Jews showed up- I really mean the second half of what you said. We shouldn’t be alone. We shouldn’t feel alone. We’ve been connected in the states since the civil rights movement (and in many cases, before- they were exiling Jews from the south prior to the civil war). The same groups hate both of us. We don’t need to have friction with eachother.
And while I could write an essay about racism in the Jewish community and antisemitism in the black community- it….really would be an essay.
So to sum up: thank you for recognizing antisemitism. Thank you for noticing it’s rising. Thanks for listening to us. Thank you for either knowing Zionism wasn’t the propagandized pure evil it was made out to be this year- or for taking a minute and rethinking that. Thanks.

Queerness and the House of Usher (spoilers!)
See I just added these Thoughts to the tags in @quecksilvereyes 's post but now I have Feelings too
TFotHoU (or HoU, as I will refer to it here), as expected from a Mike Flannagan show, has a bunch of Queer Rep™ to talk about. HoU is, also, about remarkably evil people - amoral capitalists who'll step over anyone if it means they'll get something from it. And look! Some of them are queer! Kinky too!
That's bad queer representation... right?
The show isn't that clear when stablishing sexualities, but we see that at least three of the Usher kids - Napoleon, Camille and Victorine - have same sex SOs/assistants with curious job descriptions. Prospero's taste for orgies probably implies queerness too, but honestly I don't remember if he gets it going with any guys in the story. I honestly have no idea about Tamerlane's voyerism thingie and Frederick is the only one with a "traditional family" going on.
Unrelated, but: Leo is definitely cheating on his bf Julius. Completely dismissing about his worries for him too. And for his cat. That's objectively evil, clearly. Vic literally killed her fiancée Alessandra, though she didn't stuff her under the floorboard, which is an L when compared to Poe's original. Cam doesn't believe in true love. Perry blackmailed his sister in law. Mean. He's also got a surprisingly high kill count for the family's disappointment, but since unlike Roderick he only killed rich people, we stan. I don't belong in Kinky spaces so I haven't got a big take on Tammie, only that - well, she's completely dismissing of her husband and sees him as a prop, just like the sex worker she hires.
Huh.
See, the nature of a story called "the fall of X family" is that X family is going to be the main character. The title kinda implies that they're falling for a reason, ergo, they're despicable fucking people. And they're queer! They're very queer. Many flavors of gay. They're the main characters, and they're monsters, and they're gay.
No, that's not bad rep.
Queerness as a movement, a community and a theory is very focused on scaping a cisheteronormative society's binaries (ie man/woman, husband/wife, public/private) and creating living conditions to those who fall outside of these categories - mlms and wlws, the trans, the nbs, the aros and aces... we are all queer, strange and estranged from this weird and limited worldview. And so we create a community for ourselves. It's very focused on care and anti-stablishment. Since a cisheteronormative society tends to be very white, rich and western, it's also focuses on anti-racism, anti-capitalism, anti-imperialism. Y'all know that, this is Tumblr and we love leftist Discourse.
I also know many, many gay people irl who are not like that at all. Libertarians, anarcho-capitalists, terfs, completely apolitical people and the like. Sexuality at it's core is personal, not political, so there are gay people out there who are perfectly comfortable with their sexuality on an individual level but do not see the point of getting involved in the broader context. They're queer, but are they...?
Well—
Not to mention there's lots of asshole gays out there! Don't you have a shitty ex? Have you never been almost run over by a drunken butch who blew cigar smoke into your face? I have! Life experiences are just like that. Maybe you should touch more grass. You'll probably find a lucky gift from your neighbour's dog, who is an astrology-obsessed bisexual and also really hot but stopped making out with you at a party once she found out you're a pisces (the neighbour, not the dog).
(Granted, none of this is as bad as implanting an experimental heart contraption into the fiancée you just killed because she dared to have ethical principles and then being so consumed with grief you stab yourself in front you'd your dad but you know how it goes. We're not the 1%.)
My point is, queer people are people. We are complex. We fuck up, and sometimes there's still times to fix things and sometimes... there isn't. We're consumed by jealousy and regret and sometimes we're so locked into our own head we stop believing the rest of the world is real too. Just like any other people, because unfortunately, queerness isn't a sign of morality.
And even if queerness does mean community, kindness and acceptance, tell me... Where the hell would the Usher kids get those from? The people around them are not really peers – they're ass-istants, blowjob-giving apartments, orgy mates, heart surgery providers, hired fitness moneybags, perfect housewives. Even if the partners are all shown to care for the Ushers, there's still a distance, a power gap, that makes the relationships fundamentally wrong.
And the partners? Arguably they're the good queer rep in the show, but look – even when Julius and Alessandra are shown to be good people (or at least people with an ethical boundary), they're not the good gays, they're simply the good SO's to a family of psychos. Exactly like Bill and Morrie, who afawk are straight people.
Which leads us to HoU's parameter of morality - Auguste Dupin. He refuses to drink the Amontillado, symbol of all the Usher opulence over the years. He got screwed over by the Usher twins and by the Raven herself, but he refused to cave in (except for the informant part, admittedly). He's not a good gay guy; he is gay and he is a good man.
The fundamental difference between our show's main tragic yaoi couple isn't that Auggie is a happily out gay man (and therefore is good) while Roderick is a sad divorced hetero (and therefore is bad). Auggie is the richer man because he is a good man; he has a spouse and children and grandchildren he loves with all his heart. He has a family and a community and he has found a sort of happiness no money can buy. Roderick owns the world – but what does he really have? What do his children even have? How could they ever build communities for themselves if they were never in one? Their father made them compete for his love. He never nurtured their bonds, he just showered them with money and excess until it was too much for them to handle. Juno herself pointed out - they were never a family. The House of Usher was only that. A house. It is empty and soulless.
What is queerness without a community? How could the people who represent the relentless corporate normativity and cutthroat capitalism ever be good queer rep? How can they even be queer?
Hear me out: on the most individual, simple level, being queer is still about not fitting in. These kids are bastards. They are are PoC and women in a predominantly male and white dominated space. They're on top of the world, but they're still outsiders to their own House. How could they not be queer?
And yes, I know this discussion takes a different turn when it comes to representation in media, but it's not like Flannagan fell into a Hays Code-era flamboyant villain trope. Queerness is just there. Just like Victorine and August are both black people in (arguably) the opposite ends of the morality spectrum, there are queer characters of many kinds here. The story just happens to be about the fucked up ones.
HoU is a poignant critique of capitalism and a surprisingly funny adaptation of Poe. We'll judge it by that. It happens to be queer – more things should be.

for a topic, maybe you could talk about the discrimination on earth vs. discrimination in twst? like ableism, racism/half-breeds, magiclessness, etc.
I could maybe do a topic on discrimination- I will say here that this is something I really want to tread carefully on. I don’t have an issue discussing magiclessness and maybe half-human discrimination, but I would feel a bit weird discussing ableism. I’m a physically able-bodied person, and this isn’t to say able-bodied people can’t comment on ableism, but I don’t feel comfortable turning a serious, real-world issue into a fun little chapter in my ‘let’s discuss the differences between Twisted Wonderland and Earth’ fic.
For similar reasons, I don’t feel comfortable discussing the pandemic in my fic- it’s a topic I’ve had requested before, but to me, it isn’t something that feels appropriate to bring up. I’m okay with serious topics, but I don’t feel comfortable writing in reference to recent and specific real world events, much in the same way I think it would be odd to bring up, say, the Black Lives Matter protests. I don’t know if it’s always bad to do that, but it’s at least something I don’t feel comfortable with.
In terms of magiclessness and half-humans, the main barrier to writing those is just that we don’t have a good idea of how those things are treated in canon. So far, the game hasn’t addressed what Sebek faced growing up. It’s implied there might have been discrimination, and his grandfather wasn’t happy, but nothing is ever shown for sure, and I like to keep things generally canon-compliant. In the case of beastmen/merfolk/humans having kids with each other, we’ve never even seen that happen in game. No character whose parents we’ve seen/heard about ever indicates a parent that doesn’t match them in species, excepting Lilia and Silver via adoption. This could mean that there would be discrimination against those relationships since they are, apparently, rare, but it could also mean nothing, since we’re pulling from the small sample size of ‘NRC students we know about.’ No one ever mentions there being pressure to marry your own kind as it were, so we have no idea if discrimination on that level exists.
As for magiclessness being discriminated against… is it? Trey confirms in a vignette that magicless people make up a majority of the non-fae population. Yuu might get teased or pushed aside for not having magic at NRC, but that location is an outlier. It’s literally a school that only accepts powerful mages. If Yuu got dropped in the middle of a random town somewhere, chances are they would face little to no discrimination because they would be normal. The only other indication we get of possible non-mage discrimination is Deuce stating that in his delinquent years, he used to use his magic against non-mages. Which could be discrimination, but it could also be he just used any tools he had at his disposal, magic being one of them. We’re not sure if his gang was only magic kids beating up non mages or if they were mixed and he used his magic to help out. I have a chapter going up in a bit about how mages had been an oppressed class at one point due to a lack of understanding about blot, though mages also seems to control all the major monarchies we know about, so they aren’t an oppressed class now. All this to say: we don’t know magicless people are oppressed and it’s likely they aren’t.
There might be some interspecies discrimination between beast people? From what I recall, Ruggie mentions getting shit on for being a hyena, but I can’t say for sure.
Basically, to sum it up, I don’t mind writing about discrimination in topics that are Twisted Wonderland exclusive, but I’m not going to tackle issues that are still prevalent in the real world. I just don’t think it’s appropriate for my fic.

YAPPING ABOUT SCULK WOOOOO
i have this weird obsession with the deep dark. every time i start a new world, it calls out to me, like it's where i belong.
it all started back in early-ish 2023, when the animator for dan bull's "quiet, please" (warden rap) created a sculk themed smp to go along with the song. sculk could spawn anywhere, and spread on its own. based on the strength of the players on the server, mobs would have special abilities, and at a certain level, wardens could spawn at night like any other monster.
there was this roleplay that went on, about someone finding a "sculk soup", and taking it to their lab (or smth along those lines, i wasn't invited i just read the chat) and someone ended up drinking it, who we'll call 'drey' (he was the host's younger brother btw)
he ended up getting sone sort of infection that turned him into a sort of mini-warden (more on that later), with a strong drive to protect the sculk. his first words upon being fully overcome by the infection?
"want some soup?"
there were no takers. but can you guess who came barreling to the plaza for some sculky suspicious stew? me :3
turns out it had lasting effects that stuck even after the smp closed down.
anyway, i just thought it would be funny to be the only taker. i took the soup, and then let the spores eat my brain. after my magical girl transformation, me and drey reviled in our newfound power, and then drey went on to recruit other members of the smp to the way of the sculk. this is where the racism arc began.
everyone was fighting while my dumbass just sat in my house writing in my stupid girly diary with a fuzzy pen about my violent hallucinations and the hot wardens in my area. i can't remember all the details, but after a lot of fighting, a truce was called.
fast forward a month or so later, i start a sculk cult of my own, with a mini ancient city built by me. i ended up writing a whole biological analysis on the sculk creatures, which was unfortunately lost when the server was closed down, but i still have a good general idea of what it talked about.
That being said,
SCULK BIOLOGY
Sculk is a parasitic, mold-like fungus, generally found in deep caves, emitting a blue fluorescent glow. While beautiful from a distance, close contact without proper protection can pose serious risk. While most fungi are decomposers, sculk tends to go for living prey in order to spread, often favoring humans as its primary means of reproduction. It can enter a human host's body via inhalation, injestion, through an uncovered wound, or even enlongated physical contact, where it will begin the process to take over the host's body and mind.
STAGE 1. The host will start to notice symptoms such as itching, numbness, or chest and stomach pain, depending on how the sculk made its way into the host. These symptoms will start to start to devolve into those reminiscent of a flu, including, but not limited to;
-High fever
-Nausea and vomiting
-Sore throat and consistent coughing
-Dry, flaking skin and/or rashes
STAGE 2. Depending on where the sculk started in the body, the sculk will start to feed off of the corresponding areas. The host might notice unusual weight loss, and if they're experiencing rashes, a blueish discharge seeping out of them.
STAGE 3. Sculk starts to spread in patches on the host's skin. This stage is extremely painful, as at this point, the sculk starts to directly attack the host's nervous system, causing significant damage in order to numb the host.
STAGE 4. The sculk starts to take hold of the brain. It starts by forcing it to release mass amounts of dopamine to distract the host. At this point, the host's sense of touch is gone, unable to feel pain, as the sculk has near fully consumed their body.
STAGE 5. The host starts to experience severe memory loss, and begins to exhibit unusual behavior, such as extreme paranoia and heightened aggression. They start to feel the overwhelming need to wander into a cave, and return to the sculk, believing it's the only way they will be at peace. They will find a patch of sculk, lie down in it, and allow it to consume what remains of their body, and to absorb their soul.
The sculk surrounding the area the host dies in will condense into a catalyst, allowing sculk to further spread. Their soul will be stored in a nearby sculk shrieker, where it lay dormant for up to hundreds of years. As the soul rests, it grows stronger with time. And when the time comes, the soul will be granted a new physical form once the shrieker is disturbed by an outside force, causing the reborn creature of sculk to rise from the earth, known as 'sculklins'. These creatures are covered head to toe in sculk, dawning blue fluorescent antler-like tendrils on either side of their head, commonly having exposed bones on their arms and legs, and are completely blind. But their most notable features is the gaping chest cavity, with exposed ribs, and a glowing blue soul. This soul, along with the sculklin themselves, can vary in size depending on the amount of time their soul remained dormant, larger souls having been dormant for longer periods of time.
(im tired i might keep edit this or yapping later idk)

Okay, so you know how there's like, canon racism? (I'm not sure if that's the best word) between long lived and short lived species
Short-lived races are often infantalised, and theres even a canon lil manga panel they drew about how interspecies romance is viewed from both sides.
There's a manga panel where the canaries talk about what you should refer to short-lived races as with Mithrun saying they used to just refer to them as inferior back in his day (I love how offended the canaries look and how the fandom started using the "okay grandpa" meme for him after it.)
(I believe you've reposted both of them, so I'm assuming you already have thoughts™️ on this in that brilliant noggin of yours.)
How do you think this would tie with Mithrun either having feelings or being in a relationship with a human? Like, yes, he's just a product of his society, and he would probably try and change, but I feel like there's just a potential for such interesting dynamics and, like, thought disection.
Sorry for the long ramble, this got slightly out of hand
! Hehe
Disclaimer: My intent is to dissect Mithrun’s weird mindset and how the lack of desires affects his view of other races. Saying “it’s just how he was raised” is no excuse for irl people.
Anyway
I think the whole ‘inferior species’ response is a learned belief for Mithrun. As you said, he’s a product of his culture, despite not caring to adhere to his culture’s expectations anymore.
But I also think he truly doesn’t care. Like it’s a fact to him, short lived races are inferior, he feels no particular way about it because that’s just how things are. He wouldn’t give any thought about those social issues unless it was presented to him, then he’d speak his beliefs emotionlessly because, to him, they’re undeniable facts and there’s no issue.
If he fell in love with someone short-lived, though, I think it would set him off kilter a bit. He wouldn’t care what it looks like, or what others or society thinks. However…. It’s a challenge to what he was raised to believe. I don’t think he’d hesitate in the least, but he would be a bit insensitive to your differences at first, without meaning to.
Like, as an elf he views time very differently. You have to remind him how much more quickly things move for you, that he can’t take years to tackle a problem because you don’t have those years to spare.
He would still consider all short lived races inferior, and he’ll openly say that. He’s not ardently racist for the fun of it, but he’d make comments like ‘huh. A lot of those types here’ and you’re like sweetheart what? If applicable to the conversation, he won’t hesitate to call them inferior. Then he’d look at you and say ‘except for you’ which actually just makes things worse. Feels a bit ingenuine.
You explain to him that he can’t say those things. Honestly, he doesn’t really care at first. He’s like ‘well it’s fact.’ But once you express that that sucks and it hurts and genuinely upsets you, he’s like okay. Okay. He doesn’t get it still, but he’ll watch what he says.
I think he’d make an effort, in his own way, to start understanding. He’d hang around your family and friends. He’d connect with them on personal levels. And remember, his beliefs don’t feel personal to him, so it’s not like he hates anyone. He just doesn’t care to sympathize. But he cares about you, and one of his few desires is to give you what you want. So, he’ll try to defy his cultural upbringing for you.
As for falling in love with someone of a short lived race, like I said it would throw him off a little. He’d not think too hard about it, but in the back of his mind he’s like ‘am I okay?’ LOL
But it’s you. You’re you. He wants you so he’s not going to let race stop him.
It’s only when you explain like ‘Mithrun my culture and race has built who I am as a person and you can’t choose to be blind to that just because you like me’ when he decides to try a bit.
There’s also the lifespan thing. That’s his biggest issue. Sometimes, he looks at you and thinks ‘they’re going to die in 50 years’ and he holds you a little tighter, but doesn’t bother explaining why. It is not good for him. He’s attached, and detaching is not an option. He has no idea what he’s going to do.
Poor old man

yeah anon I don't want to publish ur specific ask for the reasons u said, but thank u for reminding me of this post. this post from nalyra-dreaming was part of the affirmative action drama and I think a lot of what's in this post got lost out being talked about because of that. so let's talk about it. let's comb thru this so ppl can rly understand nalyra's racism and what they're defending when they want to defend her.
Tumblr media
first off, lol take ur own advice. but anyways. this way of speaking is crazy. this is why this whole group of besties put everyone off as time went on. that's why it's lol when ppl come to me saying nobody likes u, we prefer them. okay?? ur weird and u like being yelled at idk. these ppl read some dumb books and think they work on the show. they reference each other's fanon more than anything else. there's no discussions. they talk AT u. it's a bunch of ppl who want to be seen as smart and popular. that's it lol. "we've been trying to tell them" girl u don't work on the show stfu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this bitch is a whole bitch. u act like u have been victimized by a black fan because you had a disagreement. u play up "I tried to listen and I agree too! poor me, THEY don't want to hear anything else but what THEY want to hear :(" and THEN u have the fckn audacity to say shit like why aren't u all listening to BLACK MAN JACOB ANDERSON. why aren't u listening to black fans? why are u here making this post to act like a victim to "mean" black fans who just don't listen to facts and logic and jacob anderson himself. why are u here twisting this shit up to pretend u have empathy for black ppl by stepping over everyone here (who does not have to filter anything for show press) and saying "actually ur all wrong and stupid and ur the REAL racists because u take away jacob and bailey's own voices."
this is a real level of fucking evil racist shit and why I'm spelling this out rly slow rn so u all understand.
Tumblr media
"Louis is not chained to his coffin guys, he could have left, and a fight which shows off power discrepancies within the show story line is not automatically domestic abuse."
u jump thru so many hoops for lestat's defense it has made u dumb as fuck.
where was louis supposed to go? he's black, his family hates him, his husband is a demon spawn who stalks everyone down who tries to leave. who BEAT HIS ASS already at the *thought* that he'd even leave. that's not DV?? he could have left?? how are u like 50 years old and victim blaming like this and then saying u have authority over analyzing these books for the peasants here lol.
Tumblr media
the favorite go to line from this dumb group is "they're monsters" "they're vampires." anne rice was famous in the first place for using iwtv to humanize vampires. I think she used this type of "logic" over time too tho and that's prbly where this comes from. it's a bad excuse tho. we're talking about DV but u say it's not DV and then say "they're all murderers anyway so nothing matters." girl the redemption isn't about vampirism, it's about whiteness. u big fucking dummies who can't talk about race always want to pretend this is about lestat being a vampire and how we're too stupid to understand vampires and monsters. the horror of lestat rn is his whiteness. the horror is the power that gives him as he's the least capable of rational thought in that whole "family" unit. he's ignorant, controlling, and quick to anger. he never tries to fix his ignorance, he makes excuses for all his behavior because he CAN. because society allows him to do that! louis and claudia can't make any mistakes or be forgiven because black ppl are not given that same grace. u can call lestat a monster because on a white man that's still an attractive quality. ppl LUV white serial killers and abusers so much and hype them up like they're galaxy brain heroes. calling a black person a monster is just every day. with no benefit. that's the one u rly believe is the threat and then u shoot to kill.
Tumblr media
she's so dumb omfg. isolation doesn't mean put in an empty room. lestat wove himself into every aspect of louis' life so that louis could not exist without him. yes, on a level, louis was showing off his man, but u see how the "roots" take hold more and more over time. he's living in lestat's house, lestat is now the one driving the car. more and more lestat is telling them what they're doing and becoming critical of what louis will not give up. acting up v loudly when he doesn't get his way (he brings antoinette in when louis isn't "acting right" so he can torture louis at his job so he'll fix himself already, then he "allows" louis to see other people except now I'm gonna overreact about that too, now I've chased claudia off but btw did u know I've always had a big dick and u not being fun for me anymore is why all of this has ever happened??)
Tumblr media
again with the evilness of trying to prove ur shit point by saying "if u disagree with me then u hate black people (jacob anderson) even tho I'm speaking over all black ppl here with this post." ok lestat lol. u are always trying to excuse lestat's actions for being what they are by saying there's a book reason behind it or saying louis or whatever black or brown character is the REAL abuser. do u think abuse has to be intentional to count as abuse? do u rly think lestat's actions are justified when he could have easily explained any of it without doing all that? his response to louis' depression is to do everything I wrote above. u think that's not abuse? u think that's not isolation? "be my companion" but he didn't mean emotionally. u don't think that's maybe the arc lestat is going to have to go thru to be a better partner to louis? what do u think his arc is then, louis just made it all up and soon we won't have to care about race and lestat has been a cool guy this whole time just kidding?? anne rice rly gave u a smooth ass brain.
Tumblr media
I don't even know what this means. u all love to skip over points and just say "okay SWEETIE u just don't understand dark themes and monsters, u won't ever get it." okay U, SWEETIE, ur 50 years old, talk slow for me. I know u can do it. if u want authority then prove u know ur shit. a loud voice by itself doesn't do anything but yell. but this is all mama rice taught u tho. so here we are lol.
"everything is unreliable narration except for lestat who is always telling the truth because his egotistical crazy ass white woman author who wanted to be a white man so badly and wrote in his voice IRL to yell at ppl for real said he's telling the truth" u are all so crazy and racist and then u get big mad when ppl notice how crazy and racist u are lol. this gap between series airing has been annoying af but it's sure exposed ur asses because ur not smart like u think u are. when someone rly shows up and breaks down ur arguments to ur face and that is the sole reason I'm here, u all have nothing to say anymore. so fuck u lol enjoy this well earned fallout.

girl but what did you think about keke and zendaya? What do you think happened between them. There is a coldness there that I am getting from keke but idk why. Keke is friends with everyone esp everyone black who started on Disney and shit. It’s weird. What do you think
Girl, I'm almost afraid to even say anything on here regarding this, because I kind of feel like all it's going to do is just spark a heated Keke vs. Zendaya debate in my inbox, so that's why I've been kind of avoiding answering asks about this topic. 🙃 😬 👀
But, what I will say is that my opinion still remains. While I do think that Keke is amazing (always loved her) and is super successful, I just don't think she's on the Zendaya level of fame and success.... YET.
I mean, Zendaya is a 2x Emmy winner, has tons of high-end brand deals, trends on Twitter just for breathing, has been an EP since her teens, models, works with super famous actors and directors, has walked the red carpet at the Oscars several times, and is on a one-name fame basis.
I meannnnn.... I just think she's more famous and successful. Now, some people will argue that fame level doesn't always equal "success", and that's true, but the two usually go hand in hand.
With that said, I don't feel the need to have to compare these two lovely women at all. 🥰 They are both beautiful, amazing, and successful. Keke is an author, has been a TV host, had her own talk show, has worked with great actors over the years, and is very recognizable on her own right. I think people sleep on Keke because she is usually doing more comedic stuff, but when she speaks, you can tell that she's VERY articulate, smart, and explains herself well.
I can def understand her frustration with being compared to Zendaya though, and being put in a box and made part of an argument that she doesn't think she fits into. I totally understand how frustrating that can be, and I don't think she's wrong in feeling that way at all. Your feelings are your feelings.
With that said, I don't think we can just turn a blind eye and pretend that colorism (and, by extention, racism!) doesn't play a HUGE role in Hollywood. 👀
I think Keke is downplaying it because when the tweet came out, it was really bad timing (I'll admit), and because it makes her out to be a victim (or less-than) which is NOT a title she wants to wear, and not something she sees herself as. I totally understand that 100%. 💯
At the same time though, I don't think the fan who made that tweet realized just how offensive they came across. If anything, I think they were actually trying to give Keke a compliment in a way. They were basically saying that based on the starting careers of BOTH actresses, and the obvious talent of BOTH of these women, Keke really should have had a better trajectory career-wise in Hollywood overall. I actually agree with that.
What I think Zendaya excels at however, is that while she has biracial privilege (which, she already acknowledges), she's ALSO just played the Hollywood game much better (imo), and has been VERY strategic in her career choices.....and I kind of feel like people don't realize just how important that is in the long run. There are plenty of UNtalented people out here getting really famous and getting roles simply because they know how to play the game better. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Anyway, those are my personal two cents on the issue.
I think Keke explained herself beautifully, and I like both actresses and love to see them win. 🥰️
NOTE: I will NOT answer any rude or hateful asks about this topic in my inbox, so if you have something constructive to add to this conversation, please do so in a respectful way, and I will gladly answer you. 😊🙏🏾
