“I don’t understand why this is happening all of a sudden,” Kade said, giving his daughter a perplexed look. 

“It’s not all of a sudden,“ Brooks cried, his face red from trying to make himself understood. 

Grant sighed “we know this transgender thing is popular right now but we thought you were smarter than that.”

“It has nothing to do with how smart I am or how popular it is. It’s about how I feel.” He took a deep breath “you don’t understand what it’s like to wake up every day and know you’re in the wrong body.”

“Does this have anything to do with you liking that girl?” Turning to his husband, Kade asked “what was her name?”

“It has nothing to do with her,” Brooks glared at his parents. 

“We understand if you’re uncomfortable coming out as a lesbian,” Grant assured her. “It hasn’t always been easy for your dad and I being a gay couple. But you don’t have to do something so drastic to appear normal.”

The shock of his dad’s words left Brooks speechless. His mouth dropped open but no words came out. How could his parents think he wanted to be transgender for appearances? Tears rolled down his cheeks “you don’t understand.”

“We understand that you want to erase the little girl we love and cherish out of existence,” Kade was just as tearful as Brooks was. 

“Do you think if it was a choice I’d choose this?” Brooks said. “I’d do anything not to feel like this. To feel normal. To wake up and look in the mirror and be happy with what I see. But I don’t. I hate what I see.”

“If you feel like that then why didn’t you tell us,” Grant asked. “We would have gotten you help.”

“It’s not a mental disease,” Brooks cried.

“I read something that therapy has proved useful in helping some people to accept who they are,” Kade said. 

“I know who I am,” Brooks said, looking between his parents.

“You’re our beautiful daughter,” Grant said before Brooks could continue “we’ll get in contact with a therapist and you’ll see we’re right.”

“But…” Brooks sighed “fine.” He pushed his chair away from the table wanting nothing more than to be alone and hope for the ground to open up and swallow him.

Rose walked into the kitchen just in time to hear her parents discussing Brooks. They looked up at her with expectant eyes “what?” she asked, wishing she hadn’t wanted a snack before going up to her room.

“What do you think of Brooks wanting to become a boy,” Grant asked, patting the chair next to him indicating he wanted her to join them.

“Um,” she looked around her like she hoped the house would spontaneously combust.

SPINA VENATORES A small organization of mercenaries working for Manus Vindictae, tasked with erasing people from history as a way to call upon the "Storm". Their targets' names, families, influence and connections to this world will be dragged into oblivion.

The whole point of Spina Venatores is to be a parallel to Vertin's own independent group of Arcanists - the same way St. Pavlov's Foundation has her, Manus Vindictae has Venison and Spina. They're the mouth and teeth of Manus.

But whereas Vertin aims to create a safe, neutral space for Arcanists to thrive without human influence despite being tied to the Foundation, Venison is aiming to create a paradise for those they care about and no one else due to the heavy influence Arcana and Manus have on them.

Spinas Venatores is, at its core, a cult that was allowed to grow thanks to Venison's codependent and obsessive mindset - with them as the leader, all the troublesome and rebellious members of Manus Vindictae (that are much too powerful to get rid of or who are still clinging on to their former lives) will simply be assimilated into Spina or pressured to comply with Manus Vindictae as a whole. The third secret option is dying <3.

They also serve as a narrative device to remind everyone of the fact that, no matter how hard one may try, there's no way EVERYONE can be saved from the "Storm" - all five main members are related in some way or another to Arcanists that Vertin has met, they're people that weren't lucky enough to be taken in, who found themselves in the right time and place for Manus Vindictae to take advantage of their vulnerable state.

R1999 also portrays a LOT of oppression from various minorities that overlap with each other in very interesting ways, so I also wanted them to tackle similar things that mean so much to me - they're problematic queers is what I'm trying to say lmfao

The thing they share is that all of them are delusional to a degree, and that they're constantly haunted and defined by their relationships to others. The loss and discovery of the self through another, Ship of Theseus, cannibalism, body horror, being transgender as a really visceral and intimate experience, an obsession for love in all of its forms etc etc.

I don't have the FULL scope of their backstories, but I do know who they're tied to!

Venison was Pavia's coworker in a constant, obsessive loop of wanting to kill and save each other. Mutton was part of Schneider's mafia and romantically involved with one of her oldest sisters. Chevon was a regular visitor in Necrologist's museum and a friend of hers, she later went on to exhibit his many, many tombstones. Poultry is the "Lilian" mentioned in Darley Clatter's Stories. And Veal is a mystery even to me </3

Their uniforms are meant to look outrageous and outlandish, entirely out of place with the setting and their respective eras/times, inspired by fantasy - just BARELY reminiscent of Manus Vindictae by virtue of using a similar palette, as a way to drive that feeling of not belonging and delusion even harder.

Whereas everyone else is dealing with very real issues, all members of Spina Venatores live pretty much in their own heads (similar to Forget Me Not and how Manus Vindictae causes their recruits to become... YEAH.....THOSE MONSTERS....)

Venison gets the BIG COAT and the biggest silhouette because they're responsible for pretty much 80% of what happens within Spina Venatores! Veal gets the more simple design to allude to their whole unassuming, shapeshifter/Doppelganger thing.

They all have ribcage/bone motifs in one way or another, most of their jewels are meant to look like rosaries, they wear the Manus Vindictae silver cross and Arcana's blue color more often than regular members of Manus. Also! Hands!! Love the fuckin hands!! DID YOU GUYS SEE DIGGERS' MANUS VINDICTAE SKIN???? YEAH.

In my world there's so little terrible people that we don't have to worry about that. I can go outside freely and not worry for once.

In my world the system isn't unjust, Police don't take advantage of that badge and they have much longer training, they don't beat people for the littlest things, and they don't get excused because they're "the law" when even the law can be unjust. In my world there isn't nazis or fascism or Zionism.

In my world you're allowed on land, especially because this land wasn't ours to begin with. You don't get deported and you're not an "illegal," just a person, whether you're a person seeking refuge or just a person moving in.

I’ve been thinking about your reblog where you stated that “there's something about the way gendies argue where I can't help but get the feeling that they don't even comprehend opposing views” and especially the line “they understand so little of how other people think that they don't even understand that they don't understand how others think.” 

I remember arguing with a TRA and explaining to her that I wholly supported womens (ie., females) right to be as masculine and gender-non-conforming as they wanted. Somehow we started arguing about this TIM who has a full-on beard and basically makes no effort to convey that he wishes to be perceived as a woman. I said that I wouldn’t want someone like that in women’s spaces, and the TRA I was arguing with said, “It’s funny how you talk about her beard, and then parade around like you don’t care if women are masculine.” Like, she really thought my issue was that the TIM we were arguing about was masculine, not that he was male. She couldn’t even conceptualize the idea that I did not view him as a woman. 

I think TRAs are such a unique category of people with delusional beliefs, because every other group of people with delusional beliefs at least has the language and vocabulary to articulate what they think (religious people, conspiracy theorists, etc). They can at least demonstrate a degree of reasoning behind their thoughts, no matter how flawed that reasoning may be. TRAs don’t even have that—they don’t even pretend to. It’s just circular definitions and the assertion that their internal feelings change material reality. I’m so dismayed that this ideology which is not grounded in linguistics, science, reason, material reality, or anything else has gained the popularity that it has.

I wanted to ask you what you think will become of the trans movement in the next five to ten years? Do you think we will continue to descend more and more into unreason? Do you think radfems will become more appealing in the process? I would love to know your thoughts. 

I think you're on to something. Other belief systems, even ones that are considered to be absurd by the general public, have a consistent internal vocabulary based on words that have a very clear meaning among the group members. Often they will use words in a way that is different to the way people outside the group would use them, cults love jargon after all, but they can generally communicate quite clearly with each other. If not with outsiders.

One of the many things that makes arguing with TRAs difficult is that they are not even on the same page as each other, there's the trutrans/transtrender divide, but even among the "transtrenders" which have become the mainstream of the trans movement their beliefs seem weirdly inconsistent. One of them will try to make a point, I'll debunk it, and then another will accuse me of attacking a strawman and insist that no trans person believes the thing I just debunked. They can't even clearly communicate their beliefs to each other, so they're not on the same page. But in a weird sort of way this is a strength not a weakness, because it means we're constantly trying to hit a moving target, can't really debunk an ideology if the ideology is so inconsistent no one can agree on what it even is.

On that note I just realised something, so I don't know how aware you are of this, I only learned about this after the fact, but there was something of a war on tumblr in the early 2010s between the two wings of the trans movement. The trutrans/transmedicalists represent what was essentially the mainstream of the transgender movement in the 2000s, their philosophy is essentially that being trans is something akin to a chronic illness. One that can be treated through transition, but not cured. This is in contrast to the more modern wave of TRAs who think of "gender" something more like a form of self expression. The trutrans were actually some of the earliest critics of tumblr identities and mogai stuff, because they saw that as making light of (what they believed to be) their legitimate medical disorder.

Anyway, my point is that I don't think the current mainstream of the trans community even have a word for themselves. The trutrans people call them tucutes and transtrenders. But they don't seem to have a word that refers exclusively to themselves, but not to the trutrans. That's weird, they don't even have the language to acknowledge that they are a subfaction of a larger ideology.

As to your last paragraph, I really don't know where we go from here, it's amazing that the trans movement has gotten as far as it has given how ideologically incoherent it is. But it is incredibly profitable, gender affirming care is big business, and plastic surgeons and drug companies aren't going to want to leave money on the table by letting it become less accessible. Incidentally I think this is one of the reasons why other trans identities (transrace, transage, transabled, otherkin) are never going to catch on, they are much harder to monetise, so there's no point marketing them.

The left seems to have decided this is the hill they want to die on. They seem to view gender as a sort of individual freedom. And think that people not acknowledging it is the same thing as trying to force people into rigidly defined gender roles. Like, in their minds, if they hear me say something like "non-binary is nonsense" they equate that to me saying "all women need to become stay at home housewives who wear high heels and dresses." Because they equate the word "woman" to the feminine gender role, and don't even really understand the concept of it as a purely biological classification. Even though that's what they basically all believed 15 years ago.

If the current trans position becomes untenable I think there will probably be a retreat to the "trutrans" identity. People like Blair White, Marcus Dibbs, and Buck Angel are hated by a lot of the mainstream trans community, but they are actually helping them out by preparing a fallback position for when mainstream society gets sick of their shit. I think people will mostly tolerate that, not that I think "trutrans" makes any more sense than the current position, but it's less evangelical and overall less annoying than what they currently preach. Also, quite frankly I think there are a lot of men (left wing and right wing) who are sick of TRA nonsense, but are also deeply antifeminist, and who will want to keep transgender ideology alive because they can use it against feminists.

I'm not really sure if things are going to get more irrational from here. Both the left and the right seem to be getting more and more unhinged, the left has chosen transgender/queer ideology as its cult of choice, whereas the right has QAnon and it's weird offshoots. It does seem like we are entering an era of unreality where people are giving up on the concept of a shared objective truth and are retreating into fantasy.

Okay so I headcanon Nightmare as a trans man and also panromantic-demisexual. He also grew up in a hyper-religuous society where it was not okay for him specifically to identify as male (since he was made by Nim, who was heavily worshiped and everyone was like "no she couldn't make a.mistake like that when making Nightmare, she must be delusional and we shouldn't take her seriously) so like that's how the bullying for him sort of started, and it even got to the point that Dream was influenced by the villagers to not take him seriously, so throughout the years Nightmare just bottled up all that hate until he ate the apples and turned his brother to stone

Also Nightmare would go blind after eating the apples (him and Dream having sight was veiwed as a very big privilege, and he sinned by eating the apples so they took away the ability for him to see). This honestly makes it way scarier for Nightmare after he throws up all over himself and turns into the goopy guy we all know and love

Also passive for me is personally the same as corrupted Nightmare, just very clouded by hate and also scared

So after he gets corrupted and all that he only gets around by sensing peoples emotions and finds Killer who is like a seeing eye dog basically💀💀💀he helps him cause terror and protects him and in return Killer gets shelter and out of his AU. Same with the rest of the gang

So TLDR; Nightmare grew up in a religious society where they didn't like him being transgender and he ate the apples after he couldn't take it anymore, goes blind in the process. Bad Sanses are basically his service dogs who cause chaos for him

As queer rights inevitably come under fire, there is something I need all of you to keep on mind:

Homophobes do not believe in queer identity.

Learn this. Understand it. They are going to say a lot of things about us that will not make any sense unless you understand this.

To the current right wing, cisgender and heterosexual isn't just the default the way we talk about on tumblr. It's the only option. They believe "everyone" is cishet, and anyone who presents otherwise is doing so for nefarious reasons. Internal experience is insubstantial and therefore doesn’t not exist. To understand how homophobic people see us, I think it's important to note the recent claims that being trans doesn't exist. That it's an ideology.

To put it simply, they very literally are not seeing things as they are. To them, being cisgender and heterosexual is not just the default, but the true state of humanity. Anyone who denies either of these is making a choice.

To them, being a gay man is not about being attracted to other men, about loving other men, or anything like that. To them, being gay is having sex with men. It is not an identity. It is an action you take. And because attraction to men doesn't exists, and this is solely a choice that you're making, what is stopping you from choosing more vulnerable targets? Like, you know, children?

We know that's false. We know that's fake. But that's the ideology, that it is a perversion you've chosen and you are then vulnerable to other perversions. Your internal experience doesn't matter to them. Your lived experience of never developing crushes on girls, on waiting and waiting for it to finally happen before realizing you actually have a crush on a guy, potentially dealing with guilt or self hatred for that - none of that matters because it's not material. You have sex with men. That's all they hear. In their minds, you are a heterosexual man who is acting out a fetish.

In the same vein, being transgender is inconceivable to them. They do not believe in internal experiences, they do not believe in lived experiences, they do not believe in knowing yourself. To them, being queer is not something you are, it's something you do. That's why they make up reasons why a trans person would want to be trans. They say "well, transwomen are just predators who want access to women's spaces/cheat at sports" or "transmen just want to escape misogyny and gain male privilege" or "nonbinary people just want to be special" because they do not care about your experiences.

They don't believe gender dysphoria exists. Or if they do, they believe it is a delusion that will go away if they misgender you enough. They believe you cannot know yourself and identity does not exist.

To them, someone wakes up one day and decides to transition the same way they decide to get dinner. It doesn't matter if that person spent years hating themselves, not looking in the mirror, avoiding showering so they won't have to look at or touch their own body. Internal experience doesn't exist in this conversation! The decision comes out of nowhere to them, and must have some immediate tangible motivation. It cannot simply be that they are happier this way - to make sense to conservatives it has to serve a utility purpose.

This is what they believe about you. This is what they'll be saying on the news. This is what they'll be spreading through propaganda. This is what they'll be trying to write into law. I am not saying this to hurt you. I am included in this. We are going to be called delusional. We are going to be called liars. We are going to be accused of being perverted freaks trying to corrupt, steal, or rape children. You have to understand this, because you can't fight back until you do.

while i am heavily set on the hc of her being a transgender female ( because look at her and tell me she is cis /j i'm not one of those people i promise ) in mostly everything i make of her , i do understand that she’s most definitely 99.9% if not 100% cis in canon . no doubt honestly ( the 0.01% is my delusional ass hoping i get a trans confirmation from one of my favorite pieces of media of all time )

don't get me wrong though because i know sooo many people would take a short look at my headcanons and go ‘what the fuck is this…?’ , so i just scroll and go on with my day instead of doing what a good majority of the internet loves to do and leave hate comments etc. . no matter how much you don’t like something , nobody deserves or wants a hate comment on something they love and or are proud of . especially if it's harmless !!

i do think a large large large part of the reason i still have some tiny problems with NE exclusively on their own ( they HAVE to be NE [ R ] implied for me to really like them together ) is how they’re portrayed at times , such as the way some people can make them such an insufferable and basic , generic mlw ship or their rude fans ( TWITTER… not everyone on there of course , some NE shippers are really nice esp on here yes nikki i am looking at you but also i haven’t had any bad encounters with an NE shipper on here thank god )

one of these ways is how they portray emma , but even before discovering some things i didn’t like NE , i still don’t think i would particularly go for a scenario where emma carries a child in the future

it just does not seem like her getting pregnant fits her character at all , no matter her sex . i will get a little hypocritical right here , no bad ways i don't think , because while i do think emma wouldn't want to be in a romantic relationship with anyone , i am such an obvious sucker for REN 😞 but i do love aroace emma and considering her character i think it fits her well
