part 2 of the NPMD Monster High AU! seriously thank you guys for all the love on part 1, it means a lot that you like my silly hyperfixation crossover :]
a little lore note: in this AU, monsters can use magic to blend in with humans during the day, sort of like in the g3 cartoon. Hatchetfield is kind of split into the normie side and smaller monster side. the monster part of town is magically warded to make humans want to leave quickly, and monsters don’t tend to cross over into the human areas (with the exception of adults with normie jobs, like Mayor Lauter and most of the adult HF cast). Hatchetfield High is a “exclusive private school” in the monster part of town, and the normie teens, like Grace and Max, go to Sycamore.
why are Grace and Max humans if this is a monster AU, you ask? don’t worry, i have plans for them :)
Steph:
she’s a vampire because… well because she’s rich. you’ve heard of old money? these Lauters are ancient money
i had a hard time with her outfit because my main references were Draculaura and Elissabat, who are both very dressy, but i wanted to stay true to Steph’s casual grungy style… and then i remembered The Lost Boys were THEE original grunge vampires, so i mashed David and Paul’s jackets together and gave her a Santa Carla tee as a shout-out
the chains and plaid pattern tie back to Pete’s design, like the plaid of her flannel and his bow tie in the show <3
her father isn’t technically actually a king, but runs Hatchetfield’s monster community like he is one. a close encounter with a band of monster hunters the better part of a century ago forced the monsters into hiding under his command, and Steph’s mother ended up staked. Solomon hasn’t been the same since…
Max:
his design is simpler than the others, but that’s for a reason :) the mansters usually have more boring outfits than the ghouls, so it’s not that out of place for Monster High, right? i plan to make a few more ‘doll lines’ for this au- i’m thinking Dawn of the Dance next ;)
his jacket is based on the G1 varsity jackets that Heath Burns and Slo Mo had in their first waves, but with Max’s iconic blue. i got rid of the Hatchetfield ‘H’ since he goes to Sycamore with the other normies in this AU. go Timberwolves, i guess?
his striped shirt is based on Freddy Krueger’s iconic sweater, because Max in the musical seems to take a lot of cues from Freddy; coming back from the dead to get revenge on his killers, vulgar one-liners, gruesome kills, and even a parody of the Freddy rhyme painted on the set background. one, two, Jäger’s coming for you…
side note but i had a really hard time getting Will’s likeness in this pseudo-MH style. i think he ended up a bit too Bruce Campbell-y. maybe it’s the chin.
Grace:
sorry, Grace, i’m changing your name a bit. if you need a refresher on the G1 MH lore; Van Hellscream is the Monster High expy of Van Helsing. his niece Lilith appears in the Ghouls Rule movie, but i’m stretching out the timeline a bit so let’s say Lilith is Grace’s aunt or something. Chasity is her maiden name, which the family goes by because “Hellscream doesn’t sound very Christian”
these days, the Van Hellscream’s monster-hunting legacy is more of a family legend than history, and her parents don’t even believe that monsters exist… but Grace knows that something unholy is going on at that “private school”. she may not have Great-Uncle Abraham’s arsenal, but she has the power of God and years of repressed rage on her side
design wise she changed the least from her canon outfit. she’s covered in monster-killing weapons- crosses, stakes, silver bullets, and the flowers on her blouse and jeans are alliums, aka garlic flowers- which, fun fact, were originally thought to be what repelled vampires, rather than garlic bulbs!
her blouse is based on Nancy’s nightdress in Nightmare on Elm Street to match with Max’s Freddy stripes

Posters on your wall growing up: Star Wars and dragons. When I was a teenager, I actually drew flowers on my walls. I made a whole little flower bed around my room. It was really sweet.
Food fight food: Something that's not going to turn me into a murderer. A banana, maybe, or a plantain.
High school fashion statement: I wasn't big with fashion when I was in high school. When I was in high school, I was not really sure who I was. I was trying to figure out how do I fit in, and I was trying to follow like what I was supposed to look like or what was like society telling me. For the longest time, I kind of felt like things never really fit right. Things for either too tight or too loose. And it never really felt right. It wasn't until my twenties and I was like, “Oh, okay, this feels like a bit more aligned with myself.” If you see photos of me in high school, there's a lot of like baggy shirts and baggy jeans.
What would teenage Vico-Con include: A lot of dragons. A hyperfixation on swords and lightsabers. I actually had a journal that I doodled all the different types of lightsaber handles from all the different Star Wars characters, and then I could mash up the storylines. Star Wars, dragons, fairies, elves, and magic. I love magic. Magic in general. And swords, just like, sharp objects.

Scenario: Teaching Alastor To Kiss
(A/N: This is based off of a previous post I made where I talked about how the main group would kiss, & I concluded that Alastor would be bad at it, lmao. I’m still a simp, so I gotta redeem him a little bit, pun totally intended. This may be ooc, but it’s my hyperfixation, & I shall do as I please with it)
“Remind me again, darling, what is the point of practicing such a trivial activity?”
You sighed a bit, rolling your eyes at the demonic deers tone. Perhaps you should have guessed that Alastor wouldn’t know how to kiss. He had (begrudgingly) admitted to having never been in a relationship before you, so it made sense that he had never been kissed before, & wouldn’t be sure how it works. But it would be nice if the egotistical asshole would shelve his pride for 5 seconds so you could help him through this. “Come on Alastor, kissing is just like any other skill. It takes practice, & patience. So if we’re gonna do this, you gotta work with me. It’s okay to not be good at it at first.”
A laugh track echoed around the room. “Ha! Oh, you truly do know just how to make me laugh, my dear! As if mashing one's face with another requires much skill. What a ridiculous notion all together!” You rolled your eyes. Why were you bothering with him again? You almost decide to just give up entirely before feeling his hand carefully take hold of yours, pulling your attention back to him. “But I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to subject myself to such foolish flights of fancy. If only just this once.” You smiled softly at him, slowly placing your hand on his cheek. The sound of radio static filled the room for a moment, before lulling down into a subtle hum. “If you don’t wanna do this,” You murmured, squeezing his hand slightly in an effort to calm him. “It’s okay. We really don’t have to.” There was a beat of silence, save for the gentle hum of static, before he nodded, his smile strained. You wouldn’t lie & say it was perfect at first- A couple instances of uncomfortable teeth kissing, fumbling at trying to carefully instruct him on how to hold his head, & reminders to keep his lips closed, but after a few minutes, there was a very noticeable improvement.
“You’re doing much better,” You smiled, rubbing your thumb across his cheek. “Lets give it one more try, alright?” You could feel the air around you buzzing around erratically as the grating sound of radio static filled the room, but nonetheless, Alastor kept on a brave smile & nodded once again, shutting his eyes & leaning forward like you had taught him to. You press your lips softly against his, eyes fluttering shut as you shut out the world & focused on the feeling of his mouth against yours. His kiss was soft, careful, & dare you say unsure. There was a vulnerability in it that was completely out of character for the radio demon. Had anyone else ever been with him in such a revealing state? You knew all too well the answer was no. The fact he was here with you like this was… Would it be too cliche to describe it as... Heavenly? The gentle hum of the radio static turns into the soft melody of strings & what you could have sworn was a saxophone. Was- Was he playing slow jazz??? You chuckled softly, pulling away as a consequence of your giggles. Alastor's ears twitched back & forth slightly as he laughed right along with you. "Forgive me darling, but the silence was dreadful! I simply had to do something about it before it killed me. Again!" You shook your head in disbelief as you reached the end of your little giggle fit, playfully nudging his side. "That's fair. Even I feel a bit awkward when kissing someone in total silence." Alastor hummed softly, stroking your cheek before grabbing you by the jaw, placing his other hand on the small of your back as his smile stretched out wide across his face, his crimson gaze glowing eerily. "Well then, I suppose we'll just have to make some noise, won't we my dear?"

I have very complicated feelings for the Vengeance Saga (after the first listen)
Disclaimer: I will only criticize Epic the Vengeance Saga as a work on its own, not for its inaccuracy or deviation from mythology and The Odyssey. There are more knowledgable people who can point out and analyze the changes in Epic the Musical, but that is not what I'll be tackling here.
To put it bluntly, I'm not being angsty about it as I should. The whole saga just... didn't feel right with me.
Now, first off all, I'm a big fan of Epic and had been following it since the Cyclops saga (first version). I've been in love with many songs and hyperfixed it for months on end. But when the Vengeance saga came along, I didn't feel that same bubbling love rise in me.
Even as a fan, this isn't my first time having peeves with Epic. I didn't jam with the re-release sagas for a while, I'm underwhelmed with the Circe VS Odysseus fight and other issues, very unpopular opinion but "Monster" wasn't too impactful to me, and also the God Games (especially Zeus' attack).
The Vengeance Saga though? Well, they say we gotta do the Bun-Meat-Bun (or whatever the hell its name really is) technique when giving criticism, so I'll start with the good parts.
I love that Odysseus looked so done with Calypso in "Not Sorry For Loving You". They're basically this meme:
Like sorry you're a sad but you're still an abuser 😒
Then Odysseus starts singing the reprise for "Full Speed Ahead" but there's no one to back him up. That one hits me hard. To whoever on Tumblr said that after the Thunder Saga we will never hear the crew's back-up again and Odysseus' singing will be answered with silence, Apollo really blessed you with the red ball.
Hermes and the Winions' part was really cool too! I really like them being mischievous helper! The warning about the wind bag and the changing scene of Odysseus fighting off sea monsters while Hermes just vibing with the beats is 👌👌👌
But after that the hype started to sizzle out for me. You might want to skip this part if you're not comfortable with harsh criticism because I WON'T hold back.
It's really backward but I like the Odysseus VS Charybdis draft more than the final production. Charybdis' roars and music are somehow less intimidating, which is a shame because I thought this would be one of the biggest struggles Odysseus will face. Even with awesome illustrative animatics, the scene wasn't as thrilling as I've expected.
The other songs got massive improvement from its draft version (on top of my mind I can think of "Thunder Bringer", "There Are Other Ways", "Little Wolf"), but I don't get why "Charybdis" didn't get up-graded as much like them. It's like a cake that was throughly baked but half decorated and it just didn't taste as good as I've hoped.
Then we have the Odysseus VS Poseidon part in "Get In The Water" and "Six Hundred Strikes". The first thought I had for GITW is this song sounds like all the draft snippets were mashed together without a smooth transition/connection between them. Jorge and Steven's performance is great, but there's not enough tension for me to dread for Odysseus. When Poseidon first met Odysseus in "Ruthlessness", the whole opening was terrifyingly good! And we didn't even have any illustration animatic back then! (that's not to say the GITW animatics were bad, they just can't salvage much when the song itself was already weak)
I wasn't impressed with Poseidon's Shatter The Ocean move either. It's supposed to be the Strongest AttackTM but it's less scary than when he and the Laestrygonians destroyed Odysseus' eleven ships with probably 1% of their power. It didn't even help when Poseidon looked like he's having a seizure with lights pouring out of his eyes and mouth during the transformation.
Odysseus being literally on the brink of death with the souls of his loved ones pulling him into the abyss is a gem in the rough, but because we've seen Odysseus almost drowning before in the end of the Thunder Saga, it's not as shocking as it should be. Furthermore, Poseidon could have instant-killed Odysseus right then and there but didn't really annoyed me. But I guess he just wanted Odysseus to slowly suffer while dying.
Right when I thought the progress will get better, it... gets down. I can go with Odysseus using wind to escape the water, but him wearing it like a jetpack is so comical it ruined the drastic of the situation. And I'm officially let down when Odysseus FUCKING ATTACKED Poseidon in "Six Hundred Strike".
What? Just... why with that choice?
Look, I'm not gonna fault Epic for making creative liberties from the source material (as said in the disclaimer), but I will criticize if that change contradict itself in the transformative work. And this is one of them.
Poseidon and the gods have been proven time and time again in the musical just how powerful they are. Their ominous and grandiose entrances, them striking fear and inferiority in our hearts just by singing. Even Circe, a low-level goddess, poses a constant threat to the crew and Odysseus had to get help from Hermes just to get a chance to corner her (and Hermes even joked that he can still die!)
Poseidon easily destroyed almost all of Odysseus' fleet. Odysseus was very avoidant of him, opting to go to the literal Underworld to find instruction on how to dodge him and sailing through Scylla's lair + willing to sacrifice six men for safe passage. And when Poseidon said he can drown all of Ithaca, it's not just bluffing, he would and could have done that. Yeah, the King of the Sea is THAT BIG of a threat.
So no, Odysseus isn't cool to attack Poseidon, he's being stupid. I'm not even cheering for him the whole time he fight, just groaning at how ridiculous the whole thing is. If Epic is more believable and sticks to WHAT IT HAD ESTABLISHED BEFORE, having a sudden burst of anger and choosing ruthlessness won't save Odysseus from one swipe of Poseidon's trident. Odysseus stood no chance against one of the most powerful deity, even if he's the protagonist and love his family.
Not only that, Poseidon didn't even defend himself and was wounded by a mere human! And he just sat there and took all the blows and insults from Odysseus??? And he actually begged Odysseus to stop and agree to quell the storm to let him get home??? I'm not buy that bullshit. I'm more upset that a literal Olympian god was nerfed down than Odysseus having a Gary Stu moment. Give me a break, that try-hard moment to be cool and edgy just show how badly written the scene is.
What's the fucking point of hyping up how dangerous the gods are if a human can take one down? Tell me this isn't some Wattpad-y Greek myth retelling fanfic where the teenage Y/N sass her way to defeat an entire pantheon. Epic really traded its opportunity to be better for some cheap and out-of-the-blue dramas in this saga, dare I say it's even worse than Zeus' OOC attack on Athena. I'm very disappointed with that decision.
On an end note, the saga did have one saving point with the "After everything you've done, how will you sleep at night?" - "Next to my wife" lines. Odysseus knew he could be the most horrendous man ever and Penelope would still choose his side, that just show how powerful their love and faith in each other are.
But not enough to excuse all the terrible cinematic choices.
#epic the musical#epic the vengeance saga#jorge rivera herrans#song analysis#song review#my reviews#my ramblings#Spotify#Youtube#The Pen explodes with ink#after being let down with Zeus and Poseidon's OOC thing#i now have lower hopes for the Ithaca Saga#i guess at least there aren't any more “evil gods” to be ruined#let's just see how it goes#but seriously what's happening to Epic??? it was so good until Love in Paradise#and i feel like the musical is now on a downward slope#am i expecting too much?!

Eating Like the Greek Class, Book 1

Okay, so here's my thing. I have a hard time motivating myself to do basic human things like eat food. It has to be linked to a special interest or hyperfixation OR be a set routine for me, and since I don't have a routine for dinner that's the most difficult meal of the day. And TSH is my hyperfixation at the moment so... behold: every food the Greek class eat (not including drinks or we'd be here forever).
(Under a read more because it's Long.)
Chapter 2
Page 62:
Despite the vast amount we ate that afternoon – soups, lobsters, pates, mousses, an array appalling in variety and amount [...]
Page 73:
Charles had the oven open and was poking at some lamb chops with a fork.
Page 90:
[...] to find Bunny and Charles on the front porch, eating ham sandwiches and playing cards.
Page 94:
We borrowed Henry's car, drove to Maine so he could have a club sandwich in a bar he liked there [...]
Page 103:
Francis sat curled in the window seat with a plate of little sandwiches in his lap, reading [...] Bunny lay on his stomach on the hearth rug, doing his homework; occasionally he would steal one of Francis's sandwiches or ask a pained question.
Chapter 3
Page 120:
I found an awkward note of apology in my mailbox, wrapped around a paperback copy of the poems of Rupert Brooke and a box of Junior Mints.
Page 121:
Sitting around the kitchen table we had a sad, makeshift dinner of canned mushroom soup, soda crackers, and tea without sugar or milk.
Page 126:
Then I would go make myself a can of soup and some instant coffee on the hot plate in the Social Science office [...]
Page 142:
But sometimes when I got home he would have made dinner – he wasn't a fancy cook like Francis and only made plain things, broiled chickens and baked potatoes, bachelor food [...]
Page 144:
I cut some bread and made him a cheese sandwich, as he showed no inclination of getting up and making anything himself.
Chapter 4
Page 154:
One morning after he'd had a date with Marion, he showed up at breakfast with his tray full of milk and sugar doughnuts
Page 162:
I went upstairs and got myself a cup of coffee and a couple of soft-boiled eggs, which I ate alone at a table near a window in the empty main dining room. [...] It was the big back-to-school dinner that night – roast beef, green beans almondine, cheese souffle and some elaborate lentil dish for the vegetarians.
Page 166:
He reached in and pulled out a frozen cheesecake.
Page 172:
'There was no food at Francis's house except some cans of black olives and a box of Bisquick.' 'Yes. We ate olives and Bisquick.' [...] 'There wasn't any milk, even,' said Camilla. 'We had to mix the Bisquick with water.'
Page 175:
Henry ordered an enormous dinner – pea soup, roast beef, a salad, mashed potatoes with gravy, coffee, pie – and ate it silently and with a great deal of methodical relish. I picked erratically at my omelet and had a hard time keeping my eyes off him as we ate.
Chapter 5
Page 198:
Walking home, a sandwich from the snack bar in my pocket, [...] Bunny leaning back on his elbows with his legs stretched in front of him, cracking pensively with his rear molars at a little Dum-Dum sucker.
Page 200:
'He took a quart of ice cream out of my freezer to eat while he waited he couldn't bother to get a bowl of it, you understand, he had to have the whole quart – and when he fell asleep it melted all over him and on my chair and on that nice little Oriental rug I used to have.'
Page 204:
We ate Welsh rarebits and listened to the rain beating down in gusts on the roof.
Page 234:
Dinner appeared with instantaneous magic: pork roast, biscuits, turnips and corn and butternut squash, in thick china bowls that had pictures of the presidents (up to Nixon) around their rims.
Page 237:
To the casual observer, I suppose, he seemed pretty much his jolly old self - slapping people on the back, eating Twinkies and Ho Hos in the reading room of the library and dropping crumbs all down in the bindings of his Greek books.
Page 240:
He ignored our awkward greetings and went straight to the cabinet and made himself a bowl of Sugar Frosted Flakes and sat down wordlessly at the table.
Page 252:
She was still a girl, a slight lovely girl who lay in bed and ate chocolates [...]
Page 264-5:
He reached in the pocket of his overcoat and pulled out a bundle wrapped in napkins. 'I brought you a sandwich since you weren't at lunch. [...] It was cream cheese and marmalade, I knew without looking. The twins were fanatical about them but I didn't like them much.
Page 269:
There was roasted lamb, new potatoes, peas with leeks and fennel; a rich and almost maddeningly delicious bottle of Chateau Latour. I was eating with better appetite than I had had in ages when I noticed that a fourth course had appeared, with unobtrusive magic, at my elbow: mushrooms. They were pale and slender-stemmed, of a type I had seen before, steaming in a red wine sauce that smelled of coriander and rue.
Page 279:
Henry switched off the lamp and went to the stove and began, rather mechanically, to make some bacon and eggs.
Page 283:
'Well, I don't know who did it,' the house chairperson said, 'but whoever it was, they had spaghetti for dinner.' [...] Then I put on my robe and, eating an apple I'd found in the house kitchen, walked downstairs [...] When I got to Henry's, I was glad to see that Charles and Francis were still picking at a cold chicken and some salad.
---
OK, so so far we have lots of sandwiches, European-style food, and mentions of lots of unspecified meals (that I didn't include) but some were seen as elaborate by Richard's standards. I did take note of the drinks, but they seem to be of all varieties; alcoholic drinks (which tended to be whiskey based), coffee, tea, water, and soft drinks. This is a good start, and I'll be back for Book 2 soon for more inspiration.

Headcanons about Lanfear/Mierin I've piled up over the years
includes spoilers for the books
Most of these are extremely self indulgent and are definitely not canon, I'm scared to share any of these on my twitter cause I don't want someone trying to shame or "um akshually" me, also I have like 2 followers here, so I get to scream into the void hopefully without being noticed that much, but anyways...
1. Lanfear has borderline personality disorder
2. Mierin was born to da'shain aiel parents
this is the self indulgent one and I feel like is actually 100% canon despite Robert never confirming it. Her favourite person: clearly Lews/Rand. Her rejection sensitivity. Rand rejects her multiple times throughout the books and her reactions are always visceral, from anguish to splitting on him in TFoH AND s3ep8. Needing to be in control and have power over her life and the people around her which probably stems from trauma. BPD is a traumagenic disorder, I have other headcanons relating to this one I'll get into.
And her burning self loathing, I think she tries really hard to convince herself she deserves more and that she deserved Lews/Rand more than Ilyena did, but I think, or rather what I've read and seen in her tone is that she doesn't truly believe that which is why she strives to be in control so much. I think a lot of things in her life were out of her control, the bore being the big one. Which is why I find it so gutteral that she's the only forsaken to have chosen her own name, but later has it stripped away and has another name forced upon her. Then having her soul trapped and the torture and likely sexual abuse she experiences at Moridin's hands as Cyndane.
3. Lanfear is asian
LOOK...I just had some thoughts and this randomly came upon me while I was skimming through the shadow rising, where Coumin, an aiel ancestor of Rand makes a remark about not being taken to train as an aes sedai because he lacked the spark and it sent me into a spiral thinking about aiel aes sedai and aiel forsaken, which inevitably led me to the source of my hyperfixation so of course I had to make it about her in some way, and well aiel Mierin kinda happened. Which is honestly really tragic when I get really deep into the implications of it.
My line of thought was that she was born to aiel parents and at a young age taken by the aes sedai (basically kidnapped) because she had the spark, and they could definitely tell she was going to be one of the strongest channelers of saidar. Aes sedai being aes sedai would not let such an opportunity go.
Also, Randfear implications (yes I will make it about them too) it would be kind of nice for them to relate to being Aiel and not knowing it and hating aes sedai for what they did to them. I have a whole story written out in my head. One day, one glorious day, I will write it out on ao3.
By that I mean I imagine her as having eastern asian features, from the moment she was described as black haired and black-eyed with pale skin, the pieces fell into place. But now, I'm so in love with Natasha's portrayal of Lanfear both in looks and personality, I started kind of mashing book and show Lanfear into one, cause I'm still way too attached to my asian Lanfear headcanon, so I do draw mostly Natasha but with epicanthic folds
4. Mierin's name means "the seas"
Again, I had this thought while skimming through the books, where the sea folk or in the old tongue, atha'an miere, were mentioned, there's not much to it other than "miere" and Mierin sounded very similar. So i dug through the wiki and found "miere" (the sea) + "in" (plural suffix) so I would guess miere + in = mierin (the seas), Look I'm no language expert.
5. Rand has Lanfear's cour'souvra after the last battle
And these would be the spoilers, I'm halfway through my wot reread, but I'm 99% sure Moridin still has Lanfear's cour'souvra by the time TLB rolls around. So naturally, when Rand wakes in Moridin's body, he'd notice he has a certain... someone, or rather her soul hanging around his neck. I have a whole randfear fic planned out about them meeting again, and going off on silly adventures, she won't leave him cause he still has her soul and her ruined broken heart with him and he won't let her go free just yet. Also bending canon rules by having Lanfear have her original body back by ejecting herself out of tel'aran'rhiod Birgitte style which means some...bonding happens, it's still a work in progress and very self indulgent (why am I even sharing this when no one but me would want that)
6. Elan was in love with both Lews and Mierin
I think he and Mierin might've even been together or shared a closer bond after Lews breaks up with her. An old hc I have is that Elan might've been a professor to a younger (like 50) Lews and Mierin.
I headcanon them as close something more than friends and I think Elan was the first person in Mierin's life to truly care about her and understand her. Of course, this is inspired by season 2 of the show, they had no business being so adorable. Which makes what Moridin does to her later on so much worse...
7. During her time as a young student of the One Power, Mierin had to teach children about their power, one of whom was Lillen aka Moghedien
Lmao ok I had this thought today while I was doing some uni work, I was thinking about the ages of the forsaken and remembered that Moghedien is said to be the youngest among them. An image of a young adult Mierin teaching little Lillen how to embrace saidar poppped into my head, I've been thinking about it the whole day.
Mierin clocks that Lillen has a talent in Tel'aran'rhiod and immediately takes a liking to her. Which is hilarious cause it's canon that Moghedien is stronger than her in TAR, imagine the child you tutored out matches you in a realm you were once the top dog in.
The chosen really would be unstoppable if they were more like a found family.
8. Lanfear is pansexual
Nothing more to it other than I think she would fall in love with the dragon regardless of their gender identity. And come on, I need her to be a girl kisser as a certified girl kisser myself.
That's it for now. Thank you for reading my silly thoughts and headcanons about this fictional woman who I've loved dearly for years.

I was wondering, what made you like father mulcahy the most? What stood out about him to you? It’s so interesting what draws people to different characters!
omg GREAT QUESTION, buckle up!
So, with the exception of a couple one-off early episodes, my housemate started me at season 4 when she got me interested in watching MASH in 2020 (it was a great pandemic comfort show). By the time I got to Dear Peggy, the first storyline that really centers on Mulcahy in that season, I was smitten. He plays the piano! He's soft-spoken and slightly awkward, he seems introspective but not shy (relatable), he has convictions and is willing to make himself heard and he's a little silly and he can have some really big feelings and he's ADORABLE. I started just really looking forward to every single time he was on screen. Before I even reached the end of season 4 I was asking people on discord for Mulcahy-specific episode recommendations.
And of course seeing him flirt with Hawkeye in "Deluge" broke something open in my brain:
This is all compounded by the fact that I have a deeply complicated relationship with the church. And despite all the things I hate about the church, I've known some very special clergy, a handful of whom remind me of Mulcahy in different ways. He's such an easy person to project onto. It's satisfying to imagine him leaving the church, it's satisfying to imagine him leaving the priesthood, it's satisfying to imagine him figuring out how to move on from the church as an institution without writing off his faith. It's also fun to leave him a priest, put him in situations and watch him struggle (sorry, buddy!)
All of this was true when I started watching MASH, when I watched roughly seasons 4-7 and some random other episodes and then wandered off to other things, but last summer when I came back to MASH fic to see what was new, and I stumbled across @quordleona03's big Hawkahy series and all of Iolanthe's fic, it drew me back in and I started watching the show again I watched EVEN MORE episodes that were really heavily Mulcahy-centered and fell even more in love with him (and had fun getting extra-focused on him flirting with Hawkeye and this definitely hasn't been a single run-on sentence since the beginning of the paragraph).
And then, as if that wasn't enough, I found out Bill Christopher had a lifelong hobby of reading the Iliad and Odyssey in the original Greek (among other extremely dorky lore about him) and suddenly I had a celebrity crush to end all celebrity crushes. I love Mulcahy. He's my blorbo. But Bill Christopher… that man revoked my lesbian card /j. I am feral for Bill. I've watched most everything else of his that I've been able to get my hands on so far, and while there are two or three of his other one-off characters that I'd gladly watch an entire show about, Mulcahy is the character that has the most stuff for me to watch, so that reinforces the Mulcahy hyperfixation. I think I'll be stuck here for a while.

I like to mash-up my hyperfixations (my main blog has a few mash-ups).. so here is a SFTH longform characters as Hatchetfield characters:
Let's start with the Lords In Black, who are obviously the "eldritch beings" (or something similar)
Pokotho - Locomotion
Bliklotep - Begruvia
T'Noy Karaxis - Flaschem Naschem
Nibblenephim - Mrs Twiliger
Wiggog Y'Rath - Krampus
Webby - Alessandra the Fairy
(Begruvia and Krampus could be swapped)
Woo! Okay now the other human characters
Lex Foster - Johnny
Hannah Foster - Janae
(okay, yeah I get that Hannah and Lex SHOULD be Maria and Pinocchio since Webby is Alessandra.. HOWEVER.. listen.. uh..)
Tom Houston - Bill Hannigan
Tim Houston - Danny Prostitute
Jane Perkins - Maria (DFaD)
Becky Barnes - Mrs Prostitute
(it makes sense to me.. I can't really explain why but it does)
Paul Matthews - Cheevo
Emma Perkins - Stewie
(Chewie <3 Paulkins <3)
Dan + Donna - Chip Harrington
(He can be both.. as a treat)
Peter Spankoffski - Jack
Stephanie Lauter - Jackie
John MacNamara - André Beetroot
(because that man knows more than he is letting on.. I'm sure of it. Also because AJ confirmed him to be some sort of time traveller.. so.. and not to mention Escape From The Vault)
Wilbur Cross - Xavier (OMGITAJ)
Miss Holloway - Lukas Flamingo (formally Old Lady Margaery)
Duke Keane - Ashen von Purple Beurer
Rose - Ellory
(I know those three aren't longform characters however.. I have reblogged this post with my explanation)
I will add to this overtime! If anyone has any suggestions, let me know and I will add it (with credit of course) but also if anyone has any other suggestions for characters I've already done, do let me know!
Also characters don't have to be directly related to make siblings.. it would kinda be REALLY hard to do that.. so..
#this is so niche#but mmmm#shootimpro#shoot from the hip#hatchetfield#starkid#sfth#hyperfixations.. just rattling around in my mind.. constantly...#this is so random#and stupid#but I NEED to create mash-ups#or I may explode

I had a thought about this, and this has probably already been done, but... Reasons Anakin Skywalker and Rory Gilmore are the same person. I hear you saying, "They're just the same archetype of character. They're not similar at all!" However, I strongly disagree. Their similarities go much deeper than the same basic story line they both share. (And, also, this is just an excuse to mash two of my hyperfixations together, plus an excuse not to write a scene I've been stuck on for a month.)

They were both without father figures in their youth for a significant amount of time.
Both Anakin and Rory lacked a father figure in their youth. Firstly, like Anakin, Rory only lived with her mother, Lorelai, during her youth. She had a strained relationship with her biological father, Christopher, who came in and out of her life frequently and lived in several states while Rory had lived in Connecticut her whole life.
In addition, Rory, whose mother ran away from home at sixteen with an infant Rory, had very little to no contact with her grandfather until the age of sixteen.
A counter argument could be made that Rory had Luke Danes, a neighbor and local diner owner who is good friends with her mother and is shown to have a parental bond with Rory throughout the show. However, Lorelai and Luke didn't meet until Rory was twelve in 1996. This is based on a line during Lorelai and Luke's first date in 2004. Luke pulls out a piece of paper that Lorelai gave him on the day they first met "eight years" ago, which puts them meeting sometime in 1996. Rory was born in 1984. Therefore, it's safe to say that Rory didn't have a stable father figure until after she was twelve in 1996.
Anakin, however, didn't just have a strained relationship with a father, he literally doesn't have one. He was born because the Force impregnated his mother, Shmi. In actuality, Anakin didn't have anyone resembling a father figure until he was around six to ten years old, (I don't actually know how old Anakin is in The Phantom Menace, but six to ten is generally the age range I see for him.), when Qui-Gon Jinn takes him in to become a Jedi. Even then, Qui-Gonna Jinn dies and doesn't have the proper time to build a father-son relationship with Anakin. Other options for Anakin's father figure are Obi-Wan Kenobi, who looked out for Anakin for many year and has a Master-Padawan relationship with him, but may be more of an older brother to Anakin, or Palpatine, who guided Anakin through life and generally took on a more parental role towards him even if his teachings were misguided and manipulative.
If you're insane, you might say that the Force or Watto count as father figures towards Anakin. The Force, a foundation of nature or type of energy that Anakin didn't know about until Qui-Gon's arrival, is technically Anakin's father, but I don't think it counts as an actual father figure. It's more of a concept than something a child can lean and depend on to get them through tough times. Additionally, Watto, the alien that enslaved Anakin and his mother, is also not Anakin's father figure because... no... absolutely not
Both Anakin and Rory only lived with their mothers until they moved out.
This is a point I made in the last section, but neither Anakin nor Rory lived with anyone but their mothers. This is plain and simple, so I'm not going to expand on this much.
Both Anakin and Rory came from simple beginnings. (AKA: They were poor.)
In addition to them bith living with their mothers, both Anakin and Rory were poor growing up. Rory lived in a potting shed behind a inn with her mother before Lorelai made enough money to buy a house. They didn't have very much, and it can be inferred that Lorelai made some of her and Rory's clothes because she makes costumes and dresses multiple times throughout the series.

Additionally, Shmi and Anakin lived in the slave quarters on Tatooine. While we don't know much about this time in Anakin's life, we can infer that they very poor because they were slaves.

Both Anakin and Rory were put on pedestals and had lots of expectations burdening them.
The members of both Rory and Anakin's communities put expectations on their shoulders which no child should bear. Rory always had high expectations put atop her because of her intelligence. She always loved reading and school in addition to being incredibly smart for her age. She was always expected to go to an Ivy League school, not because of a prestigious family name, but because she was so smart. She was always expected to get A's in her classes and be the smartest person in the school. Also, she was also expected to be a good person all the time. As a teenager, she fit into the "good girl" stereotype and was expected to keep that up 24/7. In addition, her grandparents put their grand expectations originally meant for Lorelai on Rory, and when Rory fulfilled these expectations, they put her of a higher pedestal and believed she could do no wrong. Even her whole town thought she could do no wrong. Everyone around her put the burden of being perfect on her shoulders. Basically, she was expected to be the perfect girl/daughter/granddaughter 24/7/365.
Anakin, on the other hand, was expected to be perfect, not because he was a "good boy," but because he was expected to save the galaxy/bring balance to the Force. He was expected to be the picture perfect Jedi because that is what the Jedi believed would save the force. He always had a lot of pressure on him from the get go because of the prophecy that dictated he would bring balance to the Force. There's really nothing more to say on Anakin's behalf because putting the pressure to save hundreds of trillions of lives on a child is not fine nor healthy even if there's a cyptic prophecy about them.
Rory and Anakin both had a downfall.
Rory and Anakin both had a long, hard fall from the pedestals the members of their communities put them on. Rory, after realizing her years of being a straight-A student and goody two shoes were useless in the real world, decides to stop trying to be the person she was raised to be. She drops out of Yale, an Ivy League school, and moves in with her rich grandparents. She joins the social club her grandmother is in, the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). She starts going out with her rich boyfriend, Logan, every night, and she completely cut contact with her mother, who she had been very close with before she dropped out of Yale. In addition, she steals a yacht with her boyfriend and goes to jail and, after she's been convicted, community service for 300 hours. Essentially, she goes against everything her mother raised her to be. Her personality does a complete one-eighty. From being a goody two shoes, to not caring about school, the law, or her mother.
In the second prequel movie, Attack of The Clones, Anakin massacres the men, women, and children of the Tusken Raider clan which murdered his mother. After a few years and the Clone Wars, in Revenge of the Sith, he goes on to, after a dream about his wife, Padmé, dying in childbirth, switch to the darkside to acquire the powers to save Padmé's life. He massacres most of the younglings at the Jedi temple, kills Master Mace Windu, tries to kill Obi-wan, and, finally, kills his wife believing that she had betrayed him for Obi-wan. His "fall" is because of his attachment to the people around him. He kills because he either: thinks they deserve it after hurting his loved ones or thinks he has to so he can save them. Unlike Rory, his personality doesn't do a complete one-eighty, rather his negative emotions start to outweigh the positive ones which starts a slow progression of a burning grief turning into hatred.
Anakin and Rory both had lovers that helped them "fall" from their pedestal.
Rory and Anakin's downfalls were aided by the help of their lovers unintentionally. Logan, Rory's boyfriend, brought out the worst in her. He never cared about school, was a privileged brat, and was an overall asshole. His charismatic demnor and eventual change of character unknowingly led Rory down a path of self destruction. He was the one who suggested dropping out of Yale and stealing the yacht. I'm not suggesting that Rory's downfall was all Logan's fault, she should've recognized that what he had wasn't what was best for her, or she should've stayed broken up with him after the first break up, but I am saying he played a significant part in her downfall.
Padmé's influence, however, was good for Anakin. She loved him and tried to set him on the right path, tried to fix him after the Tusken Raiders incident. Unfortunately, this had the opposite affect on Anakin. Her influence made him love her so much that he'd do anything for her, and he did. He couldn't stand to lose her, so he killed and massacred children all for her sake, and it was all because she was too good for him.
Both Anakin and Rory's downfall was helped along by a man.
Both Anakin's and Rory's decisions were influenced by a man in power that they held in a high regard. Rory got her dream internship under the guidance of her boyfriend's father working in a big newspaper company. At the end of this internship, Rory has worked her butt off trying to impress this man by being a goody two shoes. He crushes her dreams saying something along the lines of, 'You don't have the guys for this job, you don't speak up, you have to be mean in this world.' Something like that. Directly after this conversation, Rory runs to Logan and says she wants to do something spontaneous. They then steal a yacht and a few weeks later Rory drops out of Yale. The conversation about Rory not having the guts for the job directly influences what happens during her downfall. She becomes more spontaneous and she doesn't care what people think anymore which were problems she had at the internship.
Anakin, on the other hand, has manipulated throughout his life as a Jedi by Palpatine. He fed lies and made Anakin trust him as a young boy. As Anakin grew older, he started confiding in Palpatine about how the Jedi council treated him and about his wife. Palpatine then sewed seeds of distrust between Anakin and the Jedi and seeds of unhealthy attachment with his wife. Once Anakin was in a vulnerable state, worried about his wife dying in childbirth, Palpatine used his influence to turn him to the darkside. In addition, he also influenced Anakin to kill Count Dooku even though Anakin was worried about the killing "not being the Jedi way." These actions directly influenced why Anakin behaved the way he did once he was vulnerable. He turned Anakin paranoid against the Jedi and his wife, compelling Anakin to slaughter them.
At the very end of their stories, both Anakin and Rory get a redemption.
Fortunately, there was light at the end of the tunnel for both Anakin and Rory. For Rory, after a wake up call from Jess, she reunited with her mom, went back to Yale, moved out of her grandparents house, and quit the DAR. While she had made mistakes and burned bridges, she made amends and tried to own up to her mistakes. At the end, she became a better person than she was previously.
As for Anakin, he finally realized that the love his son, Luke, outweighed the desire to rule the universe and killed Emperor Palpatine. While he can't undo the millions of people he killed, he killed the man who would kill millions more. In his final moments, he did the universe a final service and turned to the light side again because he loved his son so much. Fulfilling the prophecy that ruined his life.
《☆》《☆》《☆》《☆》《☆》《☆》《☆》《☆》《☆》《☆》《☆》
We now go into claims that are a bit of a stretch, but I still wanted to include because I spent too long thinking of them.
After reaching a big milestone, both Anakin and Rory traveled a lot.
After graduating highschool, Rory travels the world by going to Europe several times with her mother, grandmother, or boyfriend.
After becoming a padawan, Anakin travels to other planets for missions and battles.
Anakin and Rory both come from lines of failure.
Rory was born to a teen mom in a rich/conservative family. Lorelai was a failure to her parents and overall family because she A) got pregnant, B) didn't marry the baby's father, C) ran away from home, and D) made a living by working as a maid in an inn and worked her way up. Rory, therefore, came from a failure.
Anakin came from the infamous Disaster Lineage, where Count Dooku turned into a Sith, Qui-Gon died, Obi-Wan can't train a padawan to save his life, and Ahsoka left the Jedi order. Anakin, therefore, came from a lineage of failures.
Anakin and Rory were both taught life skills from a young teacher.
Everything Rory was taught was by her sixteen year old mother, and Obi-wan was barely a knight before he started training Anakin.
Hope you enjoyed my mad rambling session. Here's how I felt writing this:
Last minute change before I post this, I'm not trying to compare Anakin and Rory to see who had the better character arcs, trauma, or whatever. I just had a thought and ended up writing several paragraphs about why I thought this. All I am saying is that both Anakin and Rory share some of the big strokes of their character arcs and personalities. I am a huge fan of both Star Wars and Gilmore Girls, and I love both Anakin and Rory. If you want to hate on Rory or Anakin this is not the post to do that on. Please and thank you.
