How do you choose colours for your art?

ohhh. it's always tricky for me to explain this.. im still new to all this color biz and I'm still learning. i'll do my best to explain 1. opposites the thing i really really love to do is to use the opposite of a color on a different side of a color wheel

I chose orange, and then I chose blue for the shadow because it's on the opposite side of a color wheel from it. But! Between blue and orange is a HUGE gap that might look awkward. So! I use the color between blue and orange - green! You can see it on a color wheel that theyre between each other, and you can see how I used it mainly on a head as, again, a shadow, and you can see that its neighbor is almost always blue.

It might still look awkward tho. So I chose the color between green and the color that it's the neighbor of, and I try to make them blend by using colors between them, by using strokes, dots, and so on. And by just blending You can also see that I used purple to make the shadows stronger and to make the antennas uhhh more interesting. I chose it because its next to the dark blue.. i'll talk about that later

so basically its just a rainbow i know its something something color theory and you can read about it but personally ive seen a lot of videos and articles about it and it just hasnt really ..helped. yeah i understand that i need to use opposite colors but it still was so confusing!! i look at the canvas and have no idea what to do even though i watched things !! how the hell do i do it!!! huh!! What REALLY made me understand more is that I took a work of an artist that I really love who uses opposite colors STUNNINGLY and then I looked at what colors they used there and HOW. What saturation they usually use. Why and when their blue is actually red on a color wheel, but it looks like blue and how can i do the same. What repeats in their work? Etc. It really helped me, so I advise you to do something similar? Because it revealed a lot to me. Maybe it's not REALLY what the artist does, maybe their process is different, but it doesn't matter tho i still recommend watching some videos on basic color theory if you haven't already. it still isn't useless

yeag. i love it when it happens. but actually it's almost always unintentional! because what i really did was TAKE ORANGE AND THEN THE COLOR ON THE OPPOSITE OF IT - BLUE!!!!!

And then i made it more transparent!

!!! the same thing! it's not green

The color between orange and blue is, yet again. green, so i took it, made it more transparent and yada yada. here's another example

shadow looks like green, but color wheel shows its not green, but actually it is green i just made it more transparent

you get the idea. its the same thing as using the opposite colors, but you make them more transparent 3. if you can use the same color then why not use the same color lol. i like to be frugal

4. neighboring colors here is my first(..almost) attempt to use opposite colors! But i also used colors that are neighbors to each other on a color wheel

it goes lower and lower not only in brightness and saturation, but also in colour! another example

5. gradient maps can be a big changer a) no gradient maps or anything

b) i go here https://yoksel.github.io/svg-gradient-map c) i get a new pic and make it blurry in sai(making it blurry is not a necessary step)

d) i mess around and also put yellow on top of everything. looks much better!

6. Rectangles okay this one is a MESS hahA ... but i often try to make a rectangle . in a color wheel-

and/or in a square!

if we'll combine them and look at the placement of circles you can see a rectangle!!! that's what i try to do when i choose colors. i love rectangless if you'll look at the colors i picked here(orange purple green) in your art program, you'll see a rectangle again! Also i used neighboring colors biz on the berries. im sure its not how's it called but lol im not a professional i dont see the need to know it

also i never use white. its a super popular rule but still. theres also a rule to not use absolutely the blackiest black buutt idkk i use it for borders usually i also use this thang a lot . oftentimes it helps me realize that i've made the drawing too pale again. maybe if you tweak it you'll see the result you like more, too!

i dunno what else to tell you about.. hmmm. once again i really recommend you to just take the art you really like and look at the colors in your art program using the color picker. Try to find repeating patterns and try do do something similar. That's what i did! i REALLY hope this was useful .... if you have other questions i'll try to answer. and thank you for asking !! i'm really flattered that someone is curious to know how i color... :)

some pretty rough and bad sketches for some designs for a persona au? i also doodled a couple others but they need more cleanups than these guys do. which granted they still need a lot of cleanup. uhhhh notes under the cut for some stuff

i have the least to say about trucy. um i think her design needs the least touchups and thats only partially because drawing her was really easy with her canon design already being somewhat within the realm of persona designs. her arcana is the magician (obviously) and her persona is hermes !! idk why but it felt very fitting for her immediately. idk it might be a combination of both epics take on hermes being very silly and trucy acting as a sort of messenger sometimes to give people fake evidence. its ok guys it wasnt her fault shes literally a kid. honestly shes the only one ive decided on a persona for dfvgfedf. as for role in the party i think shed be garbage with physical stuff but have a very high magic stat because. magician !! as for what magic uhhh ill put a hesitant curse or wind. she could be either of those really.

athena i think would be the navigator. i just think it makes sense for her with her whole thing being about psychology and the general nature of palaces it seems fitting shed have that role. but while i think shed fill a similar role to futaba in being a navigator i think she would absolutely still be a party member because i cant imagine athena NOT being a party member. let the girl kill!!! i think shed mostly do physical damage and her magic type would be psychic obviously. i realize this is a haru ass build but whatever. also her arcana is strength. i considered some others but like come on shes strength. also while i was trying to come up with a persona for her i briefly realized i could just. take a pre existing persona and change their arcana TO strength instead of just working with personas that are already strength. and i was thinking of maybe giving her aphrodite? because i COMPLETELY forgot sex was a thing and was like "yeah aphrodite is about love and emotion and athenas got a lot of emphasis placed on her ability to hear others emotions and shes a psychologist so thats fitting also i cant give her athena as a persona obviously and ares isnt too fitting for her either but i remember hearing aphrodite at one point did have some association to war like athena and ares? and i was like YES aphrodite is a great choice. then i remembered the sex part and was like oh hm maybe not? but i might give her aphrodite anyways i just hope people like. get the actual reason why i think she should have aphrodite and dont just assume things. unfortunately i hate her design soooo much here i need to redo it or find some good inspiration

and nahyuta hasnt actually changed uh. much at all since my initial sketches for this au like a year ago. his arcana is the hierophant and his persona is uh. i havent actually decided yet sorry. lmk if yall have any good ideas though!! i do have a rough idea for his moveset, because i think he should have bless magic (because of course, maybe you could mix in some curse too for funsies but im worried about stepping on akechis toes too much with nahyuta dfvbgfd) obviously, and i think he could also be support. i dont think hed be much of a healer but have things like stat buffs and debuffs instead? so things like matarukaja and elec break for example. also for a vague concept of his role in the story, i think he might have a similar role to akechi, albeit probably not a villain really? my idea is that hed be working on his own in the metaverse, and eventually joins the main party because they share similar goals and its safer to work with others in the metaverse anyways. but hes probably slow to actually become part of the group in terms of like. being friends with them fbfrerfg. thats also why his design is sort of different in color palette from everyone else? all the others very mainly feature black in their designs while hes mostly white and gold. i think itd be cool for him to get a costume change at some point to fit in with them better, maybe make his scarf black? idk. also completely accidental but in my rough apollo sketches i gave him a similarish scarf and i think thats a funny similarity. i think nahyuta and apollo would hate each others guts. idk im trying to make designs cohesive like again you cant see it here but i tried to have trucy and apollo share a lot of design elements and i accidentally gave apollo and nahyuta similar scarfs and all the gang has black on their designs etc etc. im trying to make connections but im not all that good at character design so. its a struggle. but we stay silly.

Somethings you may notice is that Asha's dress is practically in ruin, and I do have an explanation for that! Her dress is like that BECAUSE she was ripping off her dress to care for some wounded people since they don't have the proper stuff to care for them, so she just rips it off to help the citizens later on. Also, she does it so that when she and Star/Aster meets up with her, he would be able to heal them with STAR MAGICCC :3

Another thing is that Star doesn't have a shadow (totally not a peter pan refrence trust-). Mainly because they are basically a celestial being and doesn't have a shadow and is constantly emitting some form of glow. He is, in a sense, pure light, just toned down.

And uhhh the flowers was a reference to my video I did of them a few months ago-

I forgot what the purple one was, but the closest one that is similar to the one I used was the Colchicum m Montanum, which is found in the Mediterranean sea, which is what the developers of Wish said it was where Rosas resided. And the yellow flower was a flower Star/Aster made, and its called a "Star Flower"...yeah really on the nose am I right? 🧍‍♂️

And someone in that video said that "In Polynesian culture a flower on the left side of your head means you’re in a relationship" and It wasn't intentional at all when I made that video, so I just decided to implant that small detail here because, although they aint in a relationship yet in this picture, but they soon will be HAHAHHAHAH🗣🔥

Anyways I really gotta work on that short video before I modify the script since I came up with a unique idea for the story that contradicts everything so yeah...TO THE DRAWING BOARD AGAIN.

yes. heres an awesome and totally cool easy to follow highoncatfood guide to make ur art look like a rainbowpuke mess

ive given up on doing lineart a few months ago and now i just sketch whatever, then rescale it to my liking. i use a default pixel brush in krita so rescaling makes the sketch all pixely and ugly but it doesnt matter bcuz then i just erase and add to it until its shaped. its kinda like sculpting

now even tho everyone always tells me my colors r the most unique part abt my art there is actually nothing special to them at all! i just pick everything by eye as long as its bright. looool

and yeah i mostly dont pay too much attention to what colors i pick cuz the filters save everything in the end. epsecially saturation cuz making all the colors kinda the same level of saturation makes them fit together and everthing looks nice and it causes u the eyestrain u so desire (i have no idea what im saying right now im sorry if this isnt helpful at all) theres also luminosity which i LOVE and i would put it at 100% on everything if it didnt make u feel like u have no idea what ur looking at. but uh, yeah, it kinda makes it look like u put my art on eye-saver mode and the darker colors dont look so strong

ok lemme explain, [tho if you dont wanna read all this just skip to the images in the end that i posted of my dumb self made and modified brushes] i have always used different mediums in my art~ ive used SAI, Gimp 2, CSP and occasionally Photoshop for the effects, filters and some brushes~ and i almost never remember where i downloaded them from because, first off, they were free anyway and i also almost always change them to fit my style beyond recognition to how they originally looked by default XDDD

MOST of my work is usually with SAI with almost the only brush i use in general for everything [ Inking, Coloring the edges, Shading, Lighting, and most other hand drawn shapes and hatching and etc ] is used with these settings. i never change it because i had years of experimenting to finally be comfortable with these and i will die a painful death if anything happens to my laptop before i could save these settings so i keep it in my art files just in case lmao~ [i do NOT like change and trying new stuff is2g i need therapy-]

HOWEVER when it comes to CSP i have had..... very depressing progress yay :D ... SAI in my experience has been a bit sucky in being able to handle large sizes and layers or anything else and having the possibility of crashing but the way it makes some things easy has been a MIRACLE for my lazy ass, i might have given up art before i ever even started if SAI didn't exist, but as how all EASY things usually are they start lacking in variety after a while, and i realized since one of my friends had bought me a CSP a long time ago, heck i might as well use it and oh my GOD the anxiety it induced ended me up with an IV and several trips to the hospital for injections to calm me down [and potentially temporarily blinding me] im not even joking. i mean yeah i was going through stuff back then that did NOT help my situation in general but the fact that CSP doubled my anxiety cuz i just couldn't draw with it made me have several existential breakdowns where i thought i will never be able to improve my art as a self proclaimed artist anymore because i had gotten so used to only working with what i found PERFECTLY comfortable to my own tastes that im just useless at getting used to anything else... so what happened was that i went on the most violent weekly spree of downloading any brush i could that even resembled REMOTELY to what i wanted- i also searched for brushes on tumblr or google or anywhere else- i watched so many CSP transition videos on youtube my brain was spinning and i was on a rout of self destructive agony to make this WORK. so now i have a bajillion downloaded brushes and all of them have spawned 20 other copies that i have aggressively modified beyond any sort of resemblance to what they used to be- it doesn't help that the file names and the brush names are different so i cant search for them either 😑

but if the brush names could help you in finding them uhhh, heres like.... 1/10th of the brushes i downloaded and modified that i actually did NOT go back and delete because they are fun to have around XD

"Yes, baby, I swear she's gonna love you." He assured. You could hear the voice of his little sister singing in the background, your stomach flipped from how nervous you were before you took a deep breath.

"Okay, Rabbit." You continued chewing on your lip.

"Do you know when you'll be here?"

As you guys left your apartment building, you were walking next to Jimmy and you saw that Lily was staring at you. At first you had flashed a smile to her which she mirrored, then you stuck your tongue out in a playful way which made her giggle. You continued to make silly faces at her until you arrived at the car.

Jimmy placed Lily down before he patted himself down for his keys. After he found them he unlocked the car and opened the passenger door.

"For you" He smiled, his actions had caused you to laugh

"Thank you, kind sir" You replied before getting in the car.

He shut the door and not long after that he opened the backseat door.

the fentons move into amity park from elmerton about halfway into the school year and danny enrolls in casper high. the first few weeks are rather uneventful, but things get interesting when danny suddenly becomes a spectral

danny has his portal accident and becomes a spectral with white energy from the near death experience, but before he could fully form his abilities to even know this, the wisp of a grudge quickly possesses him and turns danny into a medium. since the grudge dyes danny’s energy black, he is wholly unaware his color is white or what that would mean. danny is under the impression that he became a spectral via possession (as explained to him by others) and eventually names his spirit phantom since the grudge cannot speak to him. the possession also gave danny white streaks in his hair.

sam and tucker are part of the casper high activity club along with mr lancer as the admin. sam and tuck reflect isabel and ed respectively in the group and welcome danny to the club when they realize he developed into a spectral. (i dont really have a character to reflect isaac here since i cant really think of a character that would fit, i kinda imagine danny being a combination of him and max though)

wes and paulina are part of the journalism club. wes basically takes the role of suzy but less nutty and pink and paulina basically takes the role of collin but less of a servant/doormat (they essentially draw traits from the other’s counterparts). wes is determined to find out what the heck the activity club does and paulina backseats to the madness because she thinks its fun. she also provides gossip to keep the paper interesting beyond wes’ conspiracy theories.

star is a former member of the activity club, but left after a traumatic incident within it (since theres no isaac parallel here im unsure what i want to say this event is so uhhh for now lets just say she left for reasons). she eventually joins the journalism club at paulina’s request and avoids using her spirit and abilities as much as possible. she does, however, quietly interfere with wes’ investigation on the activity club to the best of her abilities

POWERS AND ABILITIES:

danny: he can create an entry and an exit portal to warp objects and people with blue being enter and green being exit. think portal the game rules essentially! danny cant really do long distance teleporting with the portals unless phantom became something mega powerful like a wight, he can theoretically only create the portals within his line of sight. however, since danny is rather new, his range on portals is very limited and he cant angle the exit portal in anyway (it just instinctively pops out on the opposite side of wherever the blue one is). so while theres great potential for his ability, as of now his use is very limited

sam: important distinction is king undergrowth’s ability is actually to make plants, not control pre-existing ones. only plants that pop out of her knitting needle will bend to her will, so a common strategy for sam is to “sow” seeds for later basically. king undergrowth is actually only possessing one of the knitting needles, but sam carries around the other one so it doesnt look as weird. the needles were given to her by her grandma who is also a spectral, but her parents have no idea about either of them

tucker: technus 3.0′s ability is basically the inverse of king undergrowth’s. tucker can draw/steal/pull energy from anything that uses electricity but he cannot generate it himself. his pack rat tendencies is actually born out of the need to always have a battery for himself on him at all times. this does result in him hovering in every seat with an outlet in class though to charge his stuff.

mr lancer: ghost author possesses lancer’s tie and is able to form and bend it to whatever shape they want. the tie can also harden like steel and turn itself into a really bendy blade basically. i considered giving mr lancer a pen that turns into a sword but uh you know anyway lancer usually shapes and uses the tie as a sword, but theres a multitude of other creative things he can shape and do with his ability

star: with the closest ability to the canon pnat character she reflects, star has body manipulation. much like dimitri, she can distort her body to whatever she needs. with more development/use, she can also shift her body enough to take on entirely new appearances and identities like amorpho morphie but with her avoidance she clearly cannot do this.

Okay *cracks knuckles, accidentally dislocates fingers* @agentscamander-romanoff and @steel-phoenix took the bait and enabled me by asking me to elaborate on my Children of the Watch origins theory. Which means I am about to go ABSOLUTELY feral.

Apologies to anyone for having incorrect Star Wars lore, I’ve barely consumed canon content and I don’t intend to start now. Also sorry if anyone has already said this! I’ve never seen this particular theory/interpretation and it’s made me go a bit insane.

Warnings: discussion of child abuse, cults, and the aftermath of genocide. I don’t go super in depth on any of it but it’s there. Also, I typed this in the notes app of my phone and autocorrect hasn’t quite submitted to some of these names.

SO. I’m going to break this up into sections. 1. Exploring canon 2. Extrapolations/Connecting the red string 3. What does this MEAN??? 4. Complaining about Bo-Katan.

First off, though, here’s my thesis: Children of the Watch is a “splinter group” made up of the children that Death Watch stole, indoctrinated, and abused. They’re also not a cult (Death Watch is though lmao).

1. Exploring Canon:

Okay, so. Canonically, Death Watch has abducted, tortured, and brainwashed children. Arla Fett is an example of that, having been abducted at the age of 14 after her parents were killed and she was subsequently brainwashed into becoming an assassin for Death Watch. She didn’t even hesitate when she found out her brother was alive! That’s how strong the conditioning was! She was so fucked up from it that she spent YEARS in a mental facility, and she outright begged a Jedi to wipe her memories in exchange for a favor. DEATH WATCH DID THAT. And you CANNOT tell me she was the only one they’ve done this to. PLENTY of fic writers have extrapolated off of this and mentioned it, but it’s important to me that everyone know this shit is absolutely rooted in canon.

Another Death Watch Child Abuse Fun Fact: Dred Priest and Isabet Reau, two of the trainers of the clones, canonically had Death Watch leanings and tried to instill Death Watch beliefs in the clones by FORCING THEM TO FIGHT EACH OTHER IN SECRET BATTLE CIRCLES THAT ENDED UP KILLING SOME OF THE CLONES. THEY WERE CHILDREN AT THE TIME, IF IT WASN’T CLEAR. WHAT THE FUCK. If THAT’S not an example of Death Watch abusing the kids under their care then I don’t know what is. It’s suuper not a stretch for me to think that this wasn’t an unheard of thing in more official Death Watch circles.

Also canonically, Bo-Katan has referred to Din’s covert as “Children of the Watch”, and Din, despite obviously being an important and respected member of his community, doesn’t recognize the name, which implies to me that it’s not a name the covert chose for themselves. Rather, a moniker that was given to them after they splintered off of Death Watch. Since this isn’t an opinion and it’s more just… information, I’ll trust Bo-Katan on this one.

We also know for sure that Din’s covert IS connected to Death Watch in some way, seeing as the flashback sequence very clearly shows Mandalorians in blue and gray beskar’gam, the colors of Death Watch. HOWEVER… the Armorer, who seems to hold a high position of authority in the covert, wears gold and copper beskar’gam. Din wears unpainted (v2) or mismatched colored (v1) beskar’gam (I do grant that his paint color counts less towards this because he’s pretty much one of the only people interacting with the outside world and so colors associated with Death Watch are probably a no go no matter what). Paz Vizsla’s armor is a very dark blue with yellow and cyan details and, oh my fucking god I didn’t even know this but he has a fucking MYTHOSAUR SYMBOL ON ONE OF HIS PAULDRONS. THE FUCK???? THAT’S LITERALLY THE SYMBOL OF THE TRUE MANDALORIANS IM. Ok. Okay. I needed a minute. Like I KNOW that the mythosaur skull is Mandalorian symbol in general but I think it just hits different when a Vizsla is wearing it, you know? Especially because the placement is the same as Jaster Mereel’s???? Literal founder of the True Mandalorian movement????? Excuse me???????

Let’s uh. Let’s get back to armor. I can address that… later. So. Anyway. Armor is super important, and it’s uhhh very telling that the covert doesn’t emulate the Death Watch colorscheme strictly. Like, yeah, there’s gray and light blue in there, if you go through some wiki pages, but they’re not the only colors they use, and the Armorer doesn’t even have either of those colors! And she’s the biggest authority we’ve seen! Very fucking interesting!! Bo-Katan still has her armor painted in Death Watch colors! And yet she’s derisive of Din’s covert! Verrry interesting!

We also know that Din’s covert emphasizes children VERY much, more than Death Watch ever would have, imo. It’s expected for the adult members to provide for the foundlings (and it’s VERY interesting that the kids are seemingly all referred to as foundlings iirc. More on that later.), and even though Paz disagrees with Din working with the empire, he and the other members of the covert immediately and with no hesitation come to Din’s aid for this child that Din hasn’t even claimed as his own—it’s amazing! And I will note that Bo-Katan and her warriors do the same upon their initial meeting with Din—Koska dives into danger with no hesitation as soon as Din says the child is still in danger. We see that this solidarity does come at a price for Bo-Katan, though, while the Armorer sees protecting a foundling as a duty that is completely worth all the trouble it brought.

Fascinating also that Boba was 100% on board to help out Din to save Grogu past what Din or anyone else would have expected of him, while Bo-Katan had to be bribed into coming by the promise of Moff Gideon and the darksaber. And she thinks she’s somehow more Mandalorian than him.

And NOW, going way back in time to the beginnings of the True Mandalorian movement, we know that Jaster Mereel originally authored his Supercommando Codex by looking back through history to the Canons of Honor and the Resol’nare, and he took those ideals and ideas and he modernized them to create a set of moral guidelines to follow. And people loved that shit! Death Watch had to infiltrate the True Mandalorians and then trick the Jedi into slaughtering them just to get rid of them, because Jaster’s charisma and his sexy sexy morals were too strong. (God. I fucking LOVE Jaster Mereel if you couldn’t tell.) Anyway, there’s precedent for Mandalorians looking back to their history to bring forth old ideas, repurposed to a modern context. We also know that, canonically, Din’s covert follow the “old ways” of not sharing names and of never taking their helmets off in front of others.

Moving on.

2. Extrapolations/Connecting the red string:

So if we extrapolate from the fact that Death Watch are, uh, super fucking abusive towards the kids that they stole/their own kids, then we’re left with… this group of kids, who have been mistreated and indoctrinated for a LONG TIME, and possibly don’t have that great an understanding of non-toxic Mandalorian culture. And if they’ve been abducted or rescued, whatever, they might not fit back in with the places they were taken from, or they may not have a place to go back to, or they may not even remember where they’re from originally. It’s some prime angst material! Good stuff.

And if we pull the implication from the names that “Children of the Watch” is a splinter group off of Death Watch, it really does make you think… huh, you know what? These two things may be one in the same. Maybe.

And, like, we know that Jaster Mereel and Din’s covert both looked to Mandalorian history to find pillars for their community’s morals. Jaster did so in the middle of a lot of political turmoil, as a way to say “Hey, we can still be Mandalorians in the ways that matter, but being Mandalorian doesn’t mean being a morally bankrupt conqueror. We can have honor and still wear armor and fight and uphold the Resol’nare.”

And I think Din’s covert did so when they were struggling with unlearning the toxic ideals that had been shoved onto them by Death Watch. I think they had to figure out their own way of being Mandalorian or else they would have crumpled under the pressure. And so they looked back to the old ways and picked out the more extreme interpretation of Cin Vhetin (clean slate) which says that, once you swear the Resol’nare and become a Mandalorian, your past doesn’t matter, it’s what you do now that does. You don’t take off your helmet, and you don’t let others know your name, because those things don’t matter to who you are and what you do. (There’s also the issue of the helmet and name rule being an important defense tactic to protect the covert, seeing as how Mandalorians post-Empire are the survivors of genocide. There’s already a fantastic post on it here)

Related, another Mandalorian saying is “Gar taldin ni jaonyc; gar sa buir, ori'wadaas'la.”, meaning “Nobody cares who your parent was, only the parent you’ll be,” which IMO fits in very nicely with how I’m interpreting Din’s covert. It’s all about your actions and future mattering more than your past. I think that when the covert was splitting off and being built, this would be a huge component of them healing. Because the way they were treated and indoctrinated by Death Watch doesn’t have to affect their future actions. They don’t have to perpetuate the cycle of abuse, they can build a covert and a community around caring for foundlings.

Now, onto the foundlings! I find it very interesting that, whenever the covert’s younglings are mentioned, it’s always as foundlings. I think this implies that there’s a focus on saving and raising children more than there is on sharing blood with them, and I think that the covert would be more inclined towards communal raising than typical family units, if only to keep everyone in check and to protect the children from ever being treated as they were. I also find it VERY interesting that there’s a lot of emphasis put on returning children to their own kind. I don’t think Death Watch would have employed that practice, and I think that’s another example of the covert wanting to make their community a better place for children. I think it’s likely a lot of them didn’t get that choice, and they had to leave their cultures and people behind. And so they want to give that choice to their children.

I think it’s also amazing that, like. They keep finding and raising children instead of deciding they’re too damaged or whatever to have kids. Because it doesn’t matter if they have baggage or trauma when a child needs them. That’s FANTASTIC. I’m losing my MIND. It really doesn’t matter who their parents were to them, just the kind of parents they will be. It’s all about breaking that cycle and deciding to be better and I LOVE THAT.

3. What does this MEAN???:

Well. What this means is that Din’s covert has a very clear set of motivations and structure when it comes to how their covert is run. It’s not a cult; in fact it is specifically a group created by cult survivors who are determined to not do to others what was done to them. The rules may seem weird and strict at first glance, but they have a clear purpose and rationale, and no one is trying to amass power. They’re just… trying to do better, and be better.

(This also means that I’m 99% sure that, with the assistance of time travel, at least half of the covert would be SUPER INTO Jaster Mereel. I like to imagine that Paz had, like, a poster of him on his little sewer bedroom wall. I fully believe he painted that mythosaur skull on his pauldron in honor of a good man who was killed by Paz’s own relatives for standing by his morals and daring to try to reform and rally Mandalorians. I also think it would be funny if, like, Din doesn’t know shit about ANYTHING to do with modern history, but Boba mentions that his grandfather is Jaster Mereel and Din is like “OH I KNOW THAT GUY! Yeah he’s cool, he’s the historical crush of like, my entire covert.” And Boba is like. What.)

It also means that it can be up in the air about whether Din was found by Death Watch before his covert splintered off, or if his covert was still just wearing Death Watch colors when he was found. Fun thing to play around with, but right now I don’t want a solid timeline.

Hmm just thought I should add: while the Armorer does seem to have a position of authority, I don’t think the covert can be structured politically with clans and houses like other Mandalorian groups. Like, clan just means family in this context, and is less a part of hierarchy, and I don’t think they would even recognize houses within the covert? Like they MIGHT decide to call themselves part of House Djarin now that Din is Mand’alor, but before that they weren’t like. House Vizsla with Paz as the leader just because they used to be Death Watch. I don’t vibe with that. This isn’t really super relevant, I just wanted to add it.

4. Complaining about Bo-Katan:

Anyway Bo-Katan is absolutely full of shit and it’s doubly disgusting that she’s standing there in Death Watch armor, seemingly still allied to this fucking cult of imperialism and conquest, and she accuses Din of being in a regressive cult, and she implies that the way he engages with the Resol’nare is wrong and like. Repressed or something. God I hate Bo-Katan. But I love to hate her. She’s horrible but I want her to be included in the list of Din’s friends but not the list of people he’d trust his kid with. I have contradictory Bo-Katan feelings, whatever. The most important thing is that all of her opinions are horrible, like, all the time. And we shouldn’t trust her when she says Din’s part of a cult. Literally why does anyone take that at face value. If we’re taking her word as the authority on Mandalorian issues then I guess Boba and Jango aren’t Mandalorian!!! Seriously.

TLDR; Din’s covert (aka “Children of the Watch”) is made up of survivors of childhood abuse, torture, and brainwashing at the hands of Death Watch, and they’re dedicated to making sure their children don’t go through the same thing. They’re not a cult, but Death Watch sure was! Jaster Mereel is the love of my very aromantic life and Bo-Katan’s opinions can’t be trusted. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

The best thing about the patrols is raiding old shops when people aren’t looking. You especially loved it. You would find the best things on patrols. One time you found a dinosaur pin and brought it back with bright eyes for your girlfriend.

One day you stumbled upon a shop. “CVS” You thought it sounded boring but forced Dina, one of your closest friends to come in with you.

“What are we here for? It looks pretty empty” Dina says.

Just as she turned around to look at you, you pin a bow on her head and break out into laughter.

“What the fuck (y/n)” Dina says laughing.

“Beautiful fashion statement you got going on over there” You say as you skip along your way looking down every isle.

You stumble upon a rack that looks broken down. Theres one thing left. Nail polish? You’ve heard of it but never have seen it. It was hard to understand why people used such nonsense things. It was a bright pink color. You throw it in your bag and have a brilliant idea.

-time jump-

You walk up to the door almost sliding on every turn. Fuck it was cold in the winter. You lift your hand to knock and the door swings open. An auburn haired girl you call your girlfriend stood there with a dopey smile.

“You’re finally here! I have a surprise for you” Ellie says.

You walk in curiously, Ellie wasn’t much for surprises so you were shocked. You look around trying to notice the surprise. You didn’t see anything besides the normal mess in the kitchen and Ellies clothes hanging around.

“Over here silly” Ellie walks over and points to the bed.

As you look closer you see flowers. Ones you’ve seen in a neighboring lawn. You knew Ellie stole them and couldn’t help but giggle. There was also a drawing. You pick up the drawing to look closer. It was of you and Ellie but you guys looked older. You were sitting in the back of a truck holding hands. As you keep looking you notice a ring on your hand in the drawing. You guys were young and marriage meant something so different in the dystopian world you live in but it meant so much. Tears welded into your eyes and you jumped into Ellies arms to pull her close.

“I love you” you whisper into her shoulder.

“I love you more babe” She says cheerfully back. You could tell she was proud of herself.

“That reminds me! Sit down i have a surprise for you” You say.

She sits on the bed looking at you confused as to why you have a sly smile. You pull the nail polish out of your bag hiding it into your sleeve.

“Close your eyes and give me your hands”

She looks up at you in fear. “Uhhh what are you planning on doing to me? I already lost two fingers i-“ She says jokingly before you cut her off.

“Just TRUST me” You say with a big smile and those puppy dog eyes that Ellie can never resist.

She scoffs and closes her eyes. Putting her hands out hesitantly. You grab her hands gently and put them on your leg. You start to slowly paint the girls nails, being scared she will suddenly pull away.

You cant help but to laugh as you see the bright pink nails form against Ellies pale skin. You knew she hated pink but couldn’t resist. You and Ellie always messed with each other. It kept you guys sane throughout the chaos of the world.

“Im gunna open my eyes” Ellie says.

“NO NO wait i’m almost done” you say giggling.

As you finish up you gently lift up her warm hands and blow on her nails. You want to make sure she doesn’t rub them off before they dry.

“Okay 1... 2.... 3!” you say almost yelling.

Ellie opens her eyes adjusting to the light and looks down.

“Oh my fucking god” She pauses. “Im gunna kill you” She pushed you down on the bed and starts to pin you down. You put up your best fight but you weren’t good at fighting when you were laughing hard. She finally gets your arms down and looks at you with a sly smile and determined eyes.

“Im gunna get you back you know that”

“Id like to see you try” (y/n) says while still giggling.

Ellie leans her face closer to yours. All you can feel is her breath against your lips as you pull your face to meet hers. You kiss for what feels like an hour but in reality was only seconds before you both pull away.

“You know i think pink on you is hot” you joke.

“Yeah yeah whatever you say babe” She says shooting a glare at you. She couldn’t help but smile at the stupidity of the bright neon color.

“So how about that ring you drew, still gunna give me that?” you say.

“Not a chance” Ellie says with a giggle before leaning over to kiss you once more.
