This shipping war has ruined the show

This post is for Buctommy shippers and Buddie shippers this ain’t a ship hating post!

I am NERVOUS for the next two eps i might just not watch any eps until the conclusion of the bucktommy drama is over cause i cant handle the stress of “are they finna break up” “are they endgame” “has all this shipping been for nothing” like brother i was a HARDCORE buddie shipper like i breathed buddie i had a shrine on my wall and everything but when Tommy was introduced i kinda just jumped ships. I think it’s because i have been waiting for buddie since S3 came out (i started watching at S2) and i was getting tired of not having my ship be cannon, but now i’m kinda nervous that BuckTommy ain’t going to last and like if we getting real here.

Generally the BuckTommy ship and the Buddie ship and the shipping wars ruined the show for me i wish i just kept on watching it normally and never joined tumblr, like i used to just watch the show cause i liked it and it was the best thing ever.

My “favourite show” now feels it’s like tainted cause now watching it feels like i’m only watching it to see who’s winning the shipping wars and who’s losing and it sucks watching the show for that and i feel like i got no motivation to watch the show.

I honestly couldn’t care less to watch unless it’s about these ships and it makes me feel like a fake fan almost which bums me out i dont have anything to watch so i’m trying to find new shows incase the side of the shipping war im on loses, because i’ve put everything on the ship so i know i’ll just stop watching which yes i know sounds toxic but ig i’m just toxic then idk and it makes me sad that the show has been ruined for me because of the ships to the point it’s not even my favourite show anymore.

Also it fucking sucks watching everyone argue over ships and ik i make jokes about buddie fans but at the end of the day people should be able to ship whatever they want without other people generally hating someone over it and sending them horrible messages making horrible things just because they are angry. It makes no sense to me and i’m getting tired of this bullshit in this toxic horrible fandom.

I love Bianca/Wednesday and I love Wednesday/Enid, both ships are great. I don't get why people don't seem to realize that you can't ship both. I don't get why a lot of people think I "ship Wednesday and Bianca is a hot take." and try to start a shipping wars. They are both non canon and both are great.

so in an attempt to actually use positive thinking, anytime i fuck up and my brain reacts as if ive cause a minor apocalyptic event, i compare my fuck up to the 4 minute fuck up committed by the crew of the uss william d porter.

and only today, as i was having to explain what happened to my mom when i was explaining the whole comparison thing, did i realise that most people dont know about it and ive decided that needs to change because its objectively hilarious.

...which is a weird thing to say about an event that occured on a warship in 1943, specifically november 14th.

see the uss william d porter was a fletcher-class destroyer but you dont need to know what that means, just that she had guns that went bang bang and that she was escorting another ship, the uss iowa, to cairo.

while they were on their way there, they performed some gun trials like testing the anti-aircraft guns or the torpedos. and while they were running a torpedo drill, the crew of the porter managed to fire a live torpedo straight at the iowa which you know, in terms of a list of things to do while escorting a ship, shooting a torpedo at them is not on that list.

especially if the president of the united states is on board.

yeah so fdr was on board and the gun trials were actually his idea, and part of the trials was that they were conducted under radio silence.

and that means the crew of the porter couldnt just call the iowa to be like "move out the way, we accidentally shot a torpedo at you."

but they did have signal lamps and you know, the signalman on board was trained to signal this exact kind of message.

...and uh never mind, the signalman did manage to successfully tell the iowa that a torpedo was coming toward them but wasnt as successful when it came to the direction the torpedo was coming from.

not all hope is lost though because the signalman could still use the signal lamp to correct his previous mistake and-, never mind, he announced that the porter was reversing, which she wasnt.

yeah so at catastrophic mistake number 3, they broke radio silence to warn the iowa and she managed to turn out of the way just in time which meant no one got hurt. and even though the inquiry into the incident led to chief torpedoman (fantastic job title btw) lawton dawson being sentences to hard labour, fdr intervened and waved away his sentence, saying it was all an accident.

but yeah, so thats my new measure for "how much did i really fuck up?" and when i compared accidentally picking up a pencil case without a tag on it in wilko, turns out it was a very minor fuck-up. yes, the cashier had to ask another worker to grab a duplicate so they could scan the barcode, but i didnt nearly kill the president during wartime via accidental friendly fire

psych is such a relief compared to other fandoms. we all know shawn is bisexual and has the potential to be in love with all 3 of his best friends but like i never see any active hate about it. like more than one ship? polycule. don’t like any of them? they’re all still besties. it’s just such a calm feeling to scroll through the psych tag and just see them all being silly. i love it here

My personal take on them is that Purelily was once a thing, and they were happy while they lasted, but that fizzled out when White Lily became Dark Enchantress, and now after time of healing Vanilla is able to find comfort in Cacao. :D

Man. If I had a nickel for every time Zac Oyama and Lou Wilson had to rp a breakup-coded fight between their “platonic besties” characters because Zac’s character was experiencing a hard personal internal struggle and decided to leave a group/cause that he wasn’t actually invested in and mostly just joined because Lou’s character was passionate about it and Lou’s character was canonically very charismatic and good at garnering followers/admirers but Zac’s character was one of his only true friends that he fully trusted and was loyal to and Lou’s character was really hurt when Zac’s character left, less by the actual action of leaving and more by the implication that he didn’t care about Lou’s character enough to stay I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s fucking RUDE that it’s happened twice.

cringing anytime i engage with phantom of the opera analysis because there is an obsession with casually throwing around the term 'gaslighting' when it comes to raoul's relationship with christine. gaslighting "is a form of psychological abuse or manipulation in which the abuser attempts to sow self-doubt and confusion in their victim's mind." at no point does raoul gaslight christine. he'd have to know the phantom is real first, and for the most of the story, he doesn't.

raoul does not believe an angel sent by christine's dead father is teaching her how to sing and he tells her as much. this is not gaslighting. at no point in either the book or the musical does he seek to sow self-doubt or confusion in christine's mind. in fact, her confusion is the thing that is deeply disturbing to him. he wants her sane, and healthy, and whole, and he fears grief has driven her insane to the point she has imagined herself a new father in the form of an angel of music sent to her from gustave daaé in heaven.

the fact raoul does not understand almost until it is too late the danger he and christine are facing is one of the most tragic aspects of the story. this tension is not there if you believe raoul knows the phantom exists all along and is trying to trick christine into thinking he doesn't.

nobody has to like raoul. in truth, i enjoy his niche appeal very much. it's like a cute little club. don't like him because you find him boring, a poor foil for the phantom, or a poor match for christine. that's perfectly fine and even fun! but don't make up abuse that isn't present in either the book or the theatrical production to justify your dislike. it's not necessary!

the thing about labru vs kabumisu is that both of them have the same core appeal to me, specifically from kabru's side of things: kabru being someone who is constantly agonizing about social rules and putting on the right mask, and meeting this Weird Fucking Guy who does not (cannot) care about all those things, and so kabru slowly allows himself to be more genuine. they're both such good relationships (whether you view them romantically or platonically), why must there be so much hostility between enjoyers of these ships?
