Do you guys notice how when Shawn Fain, president of the United Auto Workers union, started planning a general strike, he did it by a) targeting his messaging towards unions with the ability to safely and effectively strike in large numbers, b) laid out a clear, actionable plan for those unions to follow (setting contracts to all expire at the same time, since many unions cannot strike while under contract), c) is using union contracts to set clear, actionable demands that can be met in order to gauge success and provide an end goal, and d) started organizing FOUR YEARS before the proposed strike date to give people the chance to plan accordingly, because it takes a really freaking long time to get tens of millions of people organized?

You notice how he didn't do it by slapping a message on Twitter saying 'hey nobody go to work on Monday, that'll really show 'em'?

PALESTINIAN FAMILY FORCED TO RESTART FUNDRAISING - PLEASE DONATE!

a little while ago, I was contacted by Amal Abushaban, a Palestinian mother of 5, for help regarding her Gofundme campaign.

In summary, after spending months raising over $13,000 for her family, she attempted to withdraw the money. She did everything right, she answered Gofundme's questions, she provided the details of her beneficiary and she contacted their support team - only to be left in the dark until an email came one day, notifying her that her campaign had been closed and all donations were now in the process of being refunded.

I tried kicking up a major fuss about it online, as well as trying to pester Gofundme Support on my own account, but all it did was send me in circles as I desperately pleaded for the Gofundme Support person I was assigned to at least re-instate the damn fund. Even worse, Amal got her first email today about refunds going through.

Regrettably, Amal is being forced to start over completely in her fundraising efforts. Her beneficiary has started this Paypal fund for her. Please donate and share!

A 21-year-old working in the home of a man four decades her senior cannot truly give meaningful consent to any type of sexual encounter, let alone within mere hours of meeting him. like on one hand idk bout y’all but i would immediately put him in the cryostasis pod so he doesn’t develop any infections and doesn’t perceive any pain???

but also. imagine the tender moments.

insisting on helping anya take care of him so she never even has to ask jimmy.

little by little you take up all the duties with pure concern and selflessness to the point where she only comes in to help with diagnoses and wound dressing.

you spend almost all your free time there, just you and him alone.

sitting and resting by the cot. even falling asleep by it just so he’s not lonely.

rambling to him or playing music so he can focus on something, anything other than the pain.

making a way for him to answer simple yes’s and no’s so he can communicate somehow, have some form of free will.

fashioning him an eyepatch so his eye isn’t constantly strained.

tearing up spare bedsheets to give him new bandages.

halving the painkillers to make them last longer— yes it’s only dulled instead of fully numbed now, but it’s better than falling off a cliff into unending agony.

stroking his covered cheeks and jaw and kissing his forehead with ghostly gentle touches. you doubt he can feel it at all.

insisting he’s still in there even when everyone can’t see him the same.

joking through tears about missing his handsome face and hair and hands.

sobbing through a confession and hearing his choked cries in return.

“it’s all your fault but you still don’t deserve this.”

outside of the medbay you’re ruthless and deadly serious, spurred by a desperate need to avoid stupid mistakes and increase your chances of survival. whatever’s left of who you were before this tragedy only peeks through when you’re with him.

caring for him is representative of your own hope, that there’s a life after all this is over. once you stop trying the crew is all but doomed.
