Mario thinks Luigi's hugs are the best in the world.
Mario tries to be perfect. He really does. If he isn't then what will happen? Who will save Brooklyn? Who will protect the Mushroom Kingdom?
Who will help those he loves?
Mario hates when his worries catch up to him. They make him feel stupid. Clumsy. Flawed. How can he try to keep going when everything inside him is crumbling?
Which is why, during those times, Luigi's arms are the best place to be.
His brother's embrace reminds him that it's ok to be sad.
It's ok to be vulnerable.
He's safe here. He can cry and let out all the emotions that pain him on the inside.
As he lies on his brother's slightly longer chest (there's an advantage to being the short one!), Mario can fully relax. It's his own bed of familiar warmth and softness. A hand stroking his hair. A heartbeat thumping out a soothing rhythm that lulls him into pleasant dreams.
To Mario, this is the best place in the world to be.
* * *
Luigi thinks Mario's hugs are the best in the world.
Luigi tries to be brave. He really does.
Luigi hates when his fears get to him. He feels useless. Weak. What must he look like to everyone?
Just the coward who runs away.
And that's why, during those moments of dismay, Mario's arms are the best place to be.
Nothing in the world makes him feel as safe or happy. When they were young, when terrors in the night got too much to handle, Mario would be there to let him cuddle in his bed together, telling stories and huddling in each other's warmth until the terrors went away.
And even now, when things get too much, when the world has thrown so much at them that Luigi just wants to collapse and weep, Mario's soft embrace reminds Luigi of what he always has.
Protection. Support.
A physical beacon of strength who loves him for who he is and will always pick him up. A gentle kiss on the head and a caress on the back is enough to sooth Luigi to his core. All the fear lifts from his shoulders. There's nothing else like it. His brother is a pillar. And Luigi is the support that keeps him grounded. They can get through anything together.
To Luigi, this is the best place in the world to be.

Solve It Squad is such a wild take on the trope of a "found family." Like, the Squad found/chose each other as kids, when most of them pretty different people, and now that they are adults it's highly unlikely that any of them but Keith would make the same choice. But thanks to this extensive, unique shared history and trauma they're now just as stuck in their "chosen" (or more like "unchosen") family as they are in their "real" ones. Even more stuck, really, since they seem to actively need each other now that "life sucks on their own."
Like, "uptight and straight-laced" Scrags is now canonically covering up the fact that not one, but two of the Squad have murdered people. And he doesn't even like Keith all that much. The hold they have on each other is really just that damn strong, whether they want it to be or not.
