understanding the dynamic of a career choice

Have you ever sat to long in wonder thinking 💭, What do I wanna do in my life?  Then begin the reflecting process of all the experiences you have gained so far in your life, the skills in different jobs, people, places, but never thought for a second to say. Do I feel my cup whole🍺 or just half empty? Do I dare to drive 🚗and follow my passion or continue within the suitability of the regular 9-5 jobs?

    These are the types of questions that I feel most of use face, dwelling in the the past thinking in the moments of what we were thinking before we got to where we are today. I mean for myself I reflected my thoughts back into high school in 2010, I was already a rebellious disconnected teen that had no idea what I wanted to do but knowing that I can finally leave home and be that ADULT, but then had to came back to earth and surprised myself  to be where I am at today, filled with ideas of a whole new career and getting back to school after just obtaining my Substance Abuse License 6 years ago. As be raised by only a dad one thing he always taught me was “stick to something you can always fall back on just in case you do something new or find yourself in something you don’t love”. I then began questioning to myself, where do I wanna be? What do I truly want to do? Let's be honest being a 32 year old single mom to a soon to be middle school child, I thought going back to school was 💯% NUTS! But then I came to realize though when she is gone this is still my life and where do I want to be? 

 Now to go backwards however, honestly my first choice of career was to become a nurse and so I worked hard in different long term care homes and within the last of that career I worked for Whatcom Hospice for 6 years. However, I just never felt 100% fulfilled. I NOTICED I have always gravitated no matter what with serving people, supporting the misunderstood, or those who its almost time to go and I just wanted to find something that fit me. 

    In my younger youth I was raised within reservation but also by addiction and with that became a lot of trauma to endure, but I always no matter what wanted my family and friends that I had made to know I would always be there, and that no matter what hiccups in life they still mattered, so overtime losing those I loved I really gravitated toward following a counseling degree but started with the small potatoes and  in which eventually lead me with the substance abuse degree I carry now have found myself wanting to grow and do more.

    Psychology let me tell you just the big word of itself seems so unreal, intangible almost as most, the first time I heard of the career I always thought/imagined, this dark creepy room with some leather chair and me sitting there smoking last weeks stale left cigarette 🚬 like a movie, just to have someone vent there life an then the session is already over before I could do anything to help or felt good about. However I knew that I had to get over that fear 👀😶 and start exploring my options into the direction I wanted to face and feel more empowered and fulfilled in, but also used the experience, strengths, ideas, skills that I have obtained in my life today but also in my education now🎓. 

So how do you get started with such a DRAMATIC degree goal? 

    First you have to identify with what does this word (career) actual mean to me. So seeming how were targeting psychology, the big book of the dictionary states "The scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those effecting behavior in a given context".  Oxford University Press. So what does this all mean? and where does this road take me?⛙🚧

    For me this opened the area of expanding my ability to help those who need more than just the basic interactions, it means to have the ability not only to just working in addiction specialty that I have been doing but the underlying deeper emotional struggles with those I serve so that I can make a even different impact and difference in their everyday life to becoming successful everyday 💓

    Within the world of psychology this opens a wave 🌊 of exploration within careers if maybe specializing in addiction and treatments is not something of interest. One can say with just a basics B.A. degree you can find themselves landing job market within social work opportunities with maybe DCYF (CPS), behavioral specialist, case managers and other targeting public relations.  [https://www.waldenu.edu/online-bachelors-programs/bs-in-psychology#details]

But what if I want something bigger? 💥

The great part about psychology is the further you go withing your degree the wider that wave becomes. It allows the opportunity for more specific careers but also can spotlight a private practice. 

    I know for me making my final decision of degree seemed scary 😬 because I was worried about the debt 💵, the bills, the challenges of not only trying to raise a child and get her through school, but also just being a full time counselor as well. However, when I looked at the bigger picture 🌄

for me it brought be though comfort, love, comfort, passion, relief, that I am pursuing something I love and like I mentioned before having that fulfillment.

So when exploring your landscape of career journey think about these questions. 

What brings passion to you? Where has my journey of employment or education brought me today? What will make my glass feel half full? 

   🌟 If I have one last tool that can help in that exploration journey for you is to take a moment and complete maybe a skills assessment. Do the reading and explore how your ideas can make a difference in todays world but also make fulfillment to you, because we are the next generation for change but the degree to expand new opportunity.

Final manifestations for Book 7?

I'm trying REALLY hard not to build up any solid expectations, because I wanna go in ~fresh~! they're already so far away from anything I thought would happen (not in a bad way, I'm just accepting that I'm on Miss Yana's Wild Ride at this point and we're seeing this thing through 'til the end, by gum). so it's nothing too major, but:

they've been handing new crying expressions out like candy lately, I want to see some delicious Malleus tears.

this will forever be the funniest moment in final fantasy xiv to me. you are a bright young officer of the globe-spanning evil empire. over the last few months you've watched the entire empire crumble from the edges inward after the former crown prince killed his father and seized the throne so he could redirect the state toward his own occult ends. you have witnessed unbelievable horrors. you had to kill your own family. finally, you get a chance to stand across from the man who caused all this and ask: why? what was it all for?

then a teenager roasts him and he vanishes from history forever. you were probably the last of your countrymen to ever see or speak to him, the man who burned down everything you knew and loved for nothing at all. and like the second to last thing he ever said to you, right between imparting his existentialist philosophy and threatening to kill you, was that aliens are real. he didn't even pause, just said "go ask an alien" and went on with his speech like aliens existing was a baseline assumption everyone could agree on.

I know the moment is objectively sad but ‘Mr Gates’ heart has given out’ has got to be one of the funniest line deliveries in the whole of black sails. The fact he knows no one is going to believe it but you can still feel the absolute audacity seeping out of his voice. The side eye to Dufresne. The cunty stance. It’s so fucking good.
