In the fun little Roger/Garp idea (AU?), if they are the parents of Ace, would Ace know who his mother is? Would that impact Garp and Ace's relationship? Would Dragon still end up his little brother as a son?
Delightful question, thank you! Pondering this kind of insanity is just what I need!
I think we need to figure out what the setting for this is.
Let's go with a scenario where Garp (who I assume is a woman, since you mentioned her being Ace's mom) is unable to deny Roger his preposterous dying wish of leaving a legacy in the world. She'd already be pissed because they have Dragon, is that not enough? Roger's going to die and the thing he's worried about is legacy? But she can't say no to him no matter how frustrating the bastard is. She doesn't want him to go with regrets.
But then the asshole goes and causes a new age of piracy and suddenly Garp's life is going to be a lot more complicated.
As a marine, Garp has her hands full. She's already worrying about her oldest making bad choices in the aftermath of his dad's death and now there's a hunt on for any potential blood that Roger might have, any women connected to him, any children he could have fathered.
And for some reason Dragon was flying under the radar, she was flying under the radar (maybe Sengoku was running interference, you never know) but this kid? Something tells her that the child that Roger wanted to be his legacy is not going to be so lucky, that the burden of his will and his name is going to be Ace's ruin.
Hiding the kid is probably going to be the best course of action. And maybe Dragon doesn't know about Ace and doesn't find out until he seeks a safe place for his own child. Garp might just recognize this as some strange turn of face. If Dragon wants to risk raising this kid with his warlord wife/husband? Well, here's another one. Good luck. (Dragon would be used to his mom's brand of insanity so this doesn't even shock him too much and since he didn't tell her about Crocodile and Luffy until he absolutely had to, he can't even be grumpy with her.)
And maybe if Ace and Luffy grow up together Garp is granny to Ace too. Though I think Ace would know? And it probably wouldn't make him feel great. Dragon was one thing - Roger probably wasn't even a pirate by the time Dragon was born - but Ace's mom made the decision that he should be born into a world that she knew would hate him. And once he was born she didn't even want him. I think it could really mess with Ace. And no amount of supportive (adoptive) parents would fix it properly. And Marineford would be a hot mess, even worse than it already is now. >w<
And of course we can go with a sillier version where things aren't that dire. Garp could be chaotic and just drop the child on Dragon with a "I'm too old for this, it's time for you to stop your stupid revolutionary fancies and start being a responsible family man!!" (And maybe Roger is alive too in his version. Ace would find both of them very annoying. Garp would always be very offended - in an exaggerated way - when Ace would call her grandma, refusing to call her mom. They'd just be Grandma and Roger to Ace even though Dragon would always make sure to call them mom and dad to maybe get Ace to pick it up, but no. Ace decided that Dragon is his dad and Luffy is his brother, he will not hear anything else. Maybe once he meets Whitebeard he's gonna find another dad and then Dragon would be offended. Crocodile would also be offended because he objects to WB on principle X'D)

What is Luffy's reaction to learning Ace and Sabo are.....dating? Hooking up? Whatever they are.
Might depend on the AU?
I don't think he's got much of an opinion on it. Maybe he'd think it's funny. *lol*
(I don't think that he, as a pirate, would have any sense for taboo or shame. Not that it'd be taboo for them to be in a relationship. Everyone whose opinion Luffy might value knows they're not related, that they're brothers by choice.
If it's a similar constellation as the Stinky Child AU, Dragon and Crocodile might have a bit of a "????" reaction but then again, Mr. "do what you want, forge your own path" and Mr. "my way of dealing with people that annoy me is to kill them" really can object to it without coming across as very hypocritical *lol*)

Would Sabo having black hair look like Ace? This would obviously be bad for any Sabo/Ace ship, but in a world where they don't end up together, the "twins" would probably really look alike given their curls and similar hair styles.
Also does Sabo and/or Ace ever ask/want to use the Monkey D. name? Is Crocodile Monkey D. Crocodile technically after he marries Dragon?
Hm!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ace would just have to wear his hair more like it looked like early on, for example in Alabasta? Longer, spikier? Though I don't think Sabo would want to change his hair colour unless he wants to annoy Ace. Steals his power and his look? Ace is going to throw him into the ocean.
(I haven't figured out how to draw Sabo yet *lol*)
Regarding the names! Good question! In the Stinky Child AU Ace, after he nearly dies, might take the Monkey name.
Sabo and Crocodile though... Neither of them have the D initial but I think both technically have been offered the Monkey name. But out of all of them only Luffy actually uses it. It's public knowledge now that Dragon is a Monkey D. so maybe one day they'll just all start using it because the World Government might as well know that it's their family who's going to bring it all down. >:3

What if Mini-Mingo had the calm-calm fruit? She'd be a good fit potentially for it. It would be extremely sweet for her to get her Uncle's fruit, inherent a bit of his will possibly. But! It makes sense if as you said she's interested in being a revolutionary over anything else. The fruit is perfect for spy work and as a revolutionary she could be an extremely useful spy.
Then just imagine Doffy dealing with his... friends daughter looking reminding him of his mother with his dear brothers fruit! Okay mainly just want to break Doffy more because the man deserves it, but it would fit her.
I'm not opposed to breaking Doffy more! (Though as a consequence we might also be breaking Law quite a bit if he at any point meets her.)
But since one of the main driving forces of Cora's actions was to put an end to Doflamingo's madness, I'm not sure she could inherit that will. Though of course bringing him into Cross Guild, with Crocodile keeping an eye on him and the kid being around to break his brain, it might still work. X'D An unconventional rehabilitation program but Cross Guild working towards the same goal as the RA is giving him something else to want to burn down instead of civilians.
Of course, her having the Calm-Calm fruit would mean that Cora did definitely die and that we're not saving him in this AU *lol*

What if Garp won the fight over what Dragon's last name should be, but Roger decided their next kid (should they have one) gets his name. Garp agrees not expecting to have a second kid. Years later when Roger wants his son to be Joy Boy, Ace comes about.
Obviously Garp wouldn't die (like poor Rouge did in cannon) as she's probably stronger and more stubborn to survive a stupid long pregnancy. When Ace is born Garp holds up her and Roger's deal, and technically Ace gets the Gol last name. Not that he ever uses it due to the risk it would be to his life.
Roger (in the afterlife watching his family) while sad neither of his boys are Joy Boy would be very happy his grandson is!
Garp, in her mid 50s, regretting her life choices X'D
But yes, she's a woman of her word, she's holding up her end of the deal.

Would you ever think to draw Luffy with longer hair? Like even just slightly longer than nornal. Would it be as wild and uncontrollable as Dragon's seems to be? Would it instead be silky like Crocodile's is with more curls?
Tumblr media
(I'm kinda art blocked at the moment but I tried doodling a bit...!)
I don't know what would be better - wild Monkey D. hair or having hair similar to Crocodile~ The "spikyness" of his hair seems to suggest Dragon but it gets a bit wavy when his hair is wet, unless that's just an anime thing.)

Due to Crocodile's influence on actually raising Luff, what if Luffy was actually taught the value of money and jewels and other treasure? Leaving Luffy with either a head for money or just an understanding of how to get things accomplished through using gold to get things done, i.e. being really good at bribing people. (Not that he'd do it much as that's Nami's job, but he'd step in if Nami failed or wasn't around).
This was a long wind up, but imagine if this really impacts his ability to get treasure. Like Luffy since he understands value of treasure will just pick it up now. This leads him to just casually bring back gold he found/stole while off adventuring. Skypia, when the strawhats take the gold, is perhaps the best cannon example of this, but just Luffy doing it more. Eni Lobby? Sure he'll steal from the Marines. Gecko Moria, he's gotta have treasure right? Might as well take it.
Crocodile would be proud of his son if this is how he took after him. (Sorry for multiple asks in a row! The Crocodile giving treasure like crows do tangent morphed and took over my brain a bit)
Ooooh!! While it's funny to imagine that Luffy can't handle finances at all, it's also quite possible that in an AU where Crocodile raised him, Luffy does understand the importance of money.
Like... he's the captain, he has to pay his crew and their expenses! Crocodile has always been very firm on how a pirate crew should be run efficiently, so Luffy knows how to run a crew efficiently, how to budget, bargain and pick up the treasure that can be easily turned into money, but it's not fun. When Nami and the rest of the crew just assume he's too dense to do it and takes over, he's not going to protest. It's like that with pretty much anything - from cooking to navigating to being knowledgeable about what's going on in the world. The comedic potential of Luffy surprising his crew is too good to pass up. *lol* (And they just assume it's a fluke when it happens. It might take quite a while for the crew to actually catch on.)

So Crocodile likes to adorn his love with golden (often hair) bobbles as courting gifts right? Do any of the ASL boys pick up this habit for their love interests/crushes? If so who and do they give hair ornaments too or jewelry or other shiny gold pieces??
Also I don't really know why this just reminds me of crows bringing shines back to their friends who feed them... oh would Luffy give things he finds to Sanji as a "Thank you for making this special dish just for me!"?
Since I don't really have much (or conflicting) thoughts about who ASL might have crushes on, I can't really say...!
Though I do think they might all pick up on Crocodile's gift giving habits, though since they also always get presents they might not initially clock it as courting/ romantic gifts.
So I can imagine that the boys learn to bring little things to people they care about? Beetles, shells, nice walking sticks, coins or then later on treasures they find?
(Haha, yeah I guess Luffy might bring Sanji "thank you for the food!" gifts!)

The Monkey D. Clan is full of crazy strong people. Dragon, Crocodile, Garp, the kids...even the extended relations such as Roger; Rayleigh being a weird sorta there uncle (possibly) or "mom" to Dragon; do we consider Shanks an uncle, brother (to Ace) or Luffy's adopted dad?; Whitebeard. Regardless big crazy strong family however you look at it Regardless if you add people like Whitebeard and Shanks into it.
The question really is, is which Marine officer has the biggest or most outrageous response to learning how insane the Monkey D. Clan is and who's apart of it? Sengoku? Smoker? Akainu? A different Marine?
A part of me wants to cause Akainu as much headache as possible because I hold on to my grudges (he killed Ace!!!!! Never forgive, never forget. <- I'm joking. Mostly. It's been over a decade. There are other characters that annoy me more. I just want to torment him though >:3)
I feel Sengoku might have an idea of the Monkey D. family chaos so he might not even be that shocked once he learns just who is part of this family.
Smoker's reaction to Crocodile being Luffy's other dad would be fun probably, but he's not one that you can easily throw off course, so he'd shrug it off. Doesn't change anything in his goal to capture Luffy.
So yeah, I guess Sakazuki would be the funniest option. Maybe Dragon (who might personally know Sakazuki from his marine days) has a bet with Garp: how many Monkey D. Clan family relation reveals does it take to get Sakazuki to throw in the towel and quit his job?

Wait....is Luffy such a crybaby as a kid due to Dragon being so emotional and easy to cry over family? Otherwise I can't actually workout how DRAGON of all people is so emotional/quick to tears over his family. Like he certainly didn't get it from Garp (unless he did which is funny to imagine). But outside child Luffy none of the other Monkey D's cry easily.
Sorry this came from a previous ask about Crocodile holding his grandbaby first as Dragon would cry all over the kid. It got me thinking how emotional Dragon truely is.
Haha, I think it's simply funny to imagine that Dragon who tries to appear as stoic as possible, is actually quite emotional. And he lets himself be emotional around his family.
The other option is of course that Crocodile used to be a crybaby (too). But he would have learnt to not cry, not show any weakness or cracks in his armor somewhere along the way. So when he does cry, it's usually rather significant.
Either way, I think nobody would have told Luffy to stop crying or giving him a hard time over it (well, okay, not his parents, his siblings might have because that's how siblings are *lol*)

If Roger miraculously survived his illness and still somehow started the great pirate era, where would he fit into the family? Would he drop Ace off on Crocodile/Dragon (whoever is currently on Dawn minding Luffy) so Roger can go do something dumb? Would he have retired to Dawn to raise the kids? Does he insist Dragons his son (and claim Ace is Garps even if it's not true? Just to mess with Dragon?)???
Just curious on your take on a "If Roger lived". Even if it changes a bunch we can ignore it for this case.
Reading this I can't get the image of Roger and Rouge coming to visit and Roger's taking over introductions even though he probably doesn't even know who all the people in the house are. So he'd tell Rouge and whoever is visiting "this is Ace! Just like Dragon, Ace is my and Garp's kid!" and Rouge reacts with a "no way!!" even though she knows full well where the kid came from X'D She just goes along with the nonsense and Dragon torment.
That said. I think Roger would not be all that interested in parenting when Ace is still young and maybe Rouge (who I assume gets to live too if Roger does!) isn't either at first or she is aware that Ace has better chances to grow up without persecution if he's not growing up with either of them. (I can imagine that if Roger survived he'd get Rouge out of Baterilla, with the consequence that Rouge would be discovered as the mother.) I think maybe she was just trying to do Roger a favour by having his child when they all thought he was going to die. But well, now he's not dead and this is a bit awkward.
Maybe Roger's all "hey Dragon, you're dating that Crocodile brat, right? Have you talked about kids? No? Fancy having one? Garp already said yes on your behalf! Congratulations!"
Though I think Roger would be around occasionally but not too much. He's enjoying freedom and early retirement (probably in the East Blue) until the time's right for the next generation to set sail and go after the One Piece. (And he's going to be very unhelpful about it all because it's just better to experience it yourself than having your old man hold your hand every step of the way.)
And maybe after having some adventures of her own, Rouge is willing to settle down a bit and be in Ace's life though she might be a bit worried that it's not her place, because she did leave him. But I think they'd manage that.
So, well, a very weird extended family, nobody's got a handle on the family tree and it doesn't even matter all that much.

Do you ever think Garps real goals in life are just to see how much minor (or major) chaos he can create on a daily basis? Be a minor inconvenient until he looses his job. Jk he obviously does care to uphold his justice and likes his job...but maybe the feral gremlin gene in every Dawn Island born child wins out a lot and he is so joyful about his grandchildren acts and kids.
Alternatively he's curious about how much Senny will put up with till he quits. Garp isn't sure how Sengoku isn't graying already at marineford but damn was it a goal to make his friend turn gray like him!
Garp is definitely brings a kind of feral energy to the marine that hasn't got any better with his age X'D
I think there is definitely an impulse within him to test the limits of what the marine will let slide when it gets to him (partially due to the fact that he and Sengoku are friends. Sort of?)
Garp's probably quite amused about the things Luffy gets up to because most of what he seems to be doing is taking down corrupt people - usually pirates. X3 (And Dragon is finally starting the war on the World Nobles, which Garp seems to hate too, so that should be entertaining for him too.)
(Also, clearly Marineford did end up turning Sengoku's hair all white *lol*)

With Crocodile and Dragon raising their kids together, how do they react when learning that Shanks has been hanging around Luffy? Do they go all over protective parent threatening Shanks and his crew? Are they cool with him?
I assume that both Crocodile and Dragon were extremely busy during that year Shanks hung around Dawn off and on, and while cane to visit they largely had shorter trips, to not be around when the Red Haired Pirates first come? Or would Dragon and Crocodile know immediately a pirate crew showed up?
Alternatively if Dragon in his and Crocodile's busy time, remember how often he watched Shanks as a kid, did Dragon ask Shanks to keep an eye on his kids for him? This makes Shanks (lets be real, Beckmen) be actually responsible for ASL for a while. This actually seems hallarious.
I have very vague memories of having written something about this before so I'm sorry for repeating myself *lol*
I've not really made up my mind about that for sure. What makes sense to me is that yes, both Dragon and Crocodile are busy during that time. Dragon probably more so than Crocodile is (a perk of being a Warlord, but at the same time he can't be going to the East Blue all the time or it'll become suspicious.)
I also imagine that Shanks might have met Luffy before he knew who the kid was and Luffy probably told Dragon all about this cool pirate he met. So Shanks would find out from Luffy that "my dad knows you". Shanks might be sweating bullets because who is this kid's dad? And then it's Dragon of all people *lol*
I don't think that Dragon would ask Shanks to keep an eye on his kids (Sabo and Ace might be conveniently absent, maybe at school and just miss Shanks) and might only meet after Shanks lost his arm.

Considering Crocodile likes the finer things life has to offer. I imagine he's a good cook (he's also paranoid enough to not trust many people to cook his food without poisoning him), but also if he's gonna eat it will taste good. I also see him as someone who has problems not being good or excellent at things, so naturally he at one point in time went on a whole hyper fixation induce time period where he got really good at cooking. Regardless eventually cooking becomes a nice relaxing part of his day, to destress and listen to music and he learns to love cooking. (He'd probably hate the monstrous appetite Monkey D's have though).
But when the kids get older, cooking becomes a time when they either sit/help their Baba in the kitchen. They talk about their days and work and anything else. If they had homework (do Crocodile and Dragon actually teach them or send them to school? Or they forever wild jungle kids?) they could do it then. Eventually when they are teens, I feel Crocodile makes it his mission to teach his children at least the basics of cooking. No child of his will not know how to season whatever they catch with spices or at the very least know when meat is cooked, what you can eat raw safely, and which mushrooms are the best.
This probably has varying degrees of effect. Ace probably has a tendency to overcook things by cooking them to hot or too fast. Sabo is fine. If Merry (Baby 2) is a thing (depending on AU) she might be the best or the worst. Luffy probably is okay maybe was taught some self restrain to cook one or two more complicated dishes that are his favorites Baba makes...I feel Luffy would have more restrain if cooking for others, by himself he'd just roast meat likely.
But imagine Sanji gets sick or hurt. The other strawhats are debating who should cook now, and without being asked or really thinking much about it, Luffy steps up and cooks for his crew, as his crew argues about who should cook. Luffy makes that one dish his Baba taught, that Luffy likes to cook. Maybe it's curry or something using those Alabasta spices as it's what Baba always liked to use or a simple stew to help Sanji feel better. But Luffy stepping up because he can and as Captain it's his responsibility to help his crew and Sanji shouldn't worry about the crew eating when he's not well. I don't know how the strawhats actually react to their captain doing this, but I feel it would be amusing.
Dragon should probably be banned from the kitchen. Burns everything. He can cook meat over a campfire, and that's it. The man burns his toast no matter what. Poor guy.
Oooh, I love it!
He does love to cook, but preparing Monkey D. appropriate meals is probably quite a bit harder due to the sheer quantity they consume.
I love the idea of cooking time being family time too (and yes, I do imagine that the kids get sent to school. Maybe Dragon wouldn't be too fussed about it but the jungle can't teach them everything they need to know so Crocodile would insist on school.) and that the kids would learn to cook.
And yes! Luffy cooking for his crew when Sanji can't is so good and I do think they'd be rather shocked about it because he never lifts a finger to cook otherwise so they just assumed he couldn't do more than put meat over a fire (which is generally the thing with Luffy, also in this AU I think. He doesn't share information that isn't relevant or do things that aren't necessary - why cook if they have a cook, why navigate if they have a navigator, etc etc).
Dragon's banned from the kitchen for more than one reason. Not only does he seem to be cursed to always burn his toast (maybe he actually IS cursed *lol* Garp has probably made enough enemies for one of the other curse aimed at his bloodline or firstborn to stick) but the curse will infect Crocodile too! (It's not because Dragon is so distracting, with wandering hands and kisses pressed against his neck~) If the kids don't want burnt food they have to get Dad out of the kitchen *lol*
(When it's Dragon's turn to watch the kids on his own they all know it's time to go hunt for food and cook it over a campfire X'D If they need something else they can go to Makino *lol*)
