"secret" society

Thinking about starting a secret society that is actually not a secret at all and is open to everyone, but we call it a secret society and have a cool clubhouse and secret handshakes and gestures for when we're in public and speak in code that's just silly nonsense.

It would be a community clothes closet, fridge and pantry, we'd have block parties where the only way you can gain admittance is to agree that this is totally a secret society and promise to tell at least one person that it's a secret society and tell them all about what we do and invite them to join.

We'd put ads out inviting people to come to our parties and join our secret society where it's just potlucks and trading or giving away things that members want to donate like clothes, books, furniture, baby items, old tools, extra tiles and lumber from that reno you overestimated materials for, etc.

There would be no leaders, just people who are good at organizing who want to help, and we would rotate and take shifts so nobody would be doing the same thing month to month.

There would be no dues or fees or treasury, just bring food and items to donate, and volunteer for setting up and cleaning up when you can. We'd have a community garden that was managed by volunteer members.

We'd have a time dedicated at each "meeting" (party) to discuss individual's needs like so-and-so needs help with a plumbing problem at their house, or so-and-so is offering free labor on car repairs, or this family in the community is looking for a pediatrician, or this elderly member needs help with yard work.

There would be no religious, political, or ideological prerequisites, just a community of people being kind to people.

If there were troublemakers, malcontents, or disrespectful people we would empathetically try to understand what their needs are that aren't being met and try to meet those needs, show them that there is a better way of resolving conflicts, and keep being kind, honest and respectful to them as an example of what community can be. We wouldn't just kick them out because we're stronger unified.

I don't believe this is an impossible idealistic fantasy. I've seen groups like this, I've been part of groups akin to this, and I've heard good accounts of communities getting through very difficult times by doing something similar.

The guiding principles would be: 1. Treat everyone the way you want to be treated. 2. Do what you can for our environment. 3. 1 & 2 are good enough.

Now we just need a cool name.

hello friends, i'm skirby! it's a pleasure to meet all of you! i go by he/they pronouns, but i don't really mind what set you use for me.

for the longest time, i've been a fan of learning about mental health, and i still am! it's one of my more useful interests, and hopefully i can work towards it someday! along with mental health, i'm also very interested in learning about personality, especially mbti (it’s not the most reliable, but it’s still fun)!

i'm also a REALLY big kirby fan. i own quite a bit of the merch, and i love playing the games! i also enjoy the danganronpa series quite a bit! other franchises/ fandoms i enjoy (in no particular order) are celeste, hollow knight, oneshot, pokémon, project eden's garden, undertale/deltarune, toilet bound hanako kun, and a few more! :)

I have a vision, and it's green (:

For those of you who don't know me, hi— I'm Aniah (: and I have a pretty big green thumb; and by this, I really just mean that I'm a proud plant mom. From succulents to vines, from palms to trees, I have it. However, recently, I've grown an itch to add an additional category of plants to the family- kitchen herbs! I'm super excited to get into the rhythm of research and even more excited to go shopping once I complete my Herbs-To-Buy list! A few herbs that have already added to my list are Oregano, Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme, Parsley, Dill, Basil, and Sage. If you guys have any tips or recommendations at all regarding ideal herbs or just gardening in general, feel free to drop a comment! By the way, these will all be indoors <3

Snails, man. Look at them. They're so fucking tiny. They're just little blobs with funky hats, doing their best in the world. And even though they're small and basically sentient jello in a shell, they can survive and do stuff and live their little snaily lives. No one looks at a snail and says it's not good enough. And you know what? We're kinda like snails. We don't know what we're doing most of the time. But we're still trying our hardest, and that's amazing when you think about it. So it's okay if you all you do today is get out of bed. It's okay if you don't feel great. That's okay! Because you're still living and existing and that's pretty cool, I think. So take care of yourself okay?? Drink some water. Munch on your neighbor's tomato plants. Get some rest. You deserve it. You deserve to be happy just as much as everyone else does, and as much as little snails do.
