wip word: scared
“I have COVID,” he responded, chest burning with the admission, with the fear of the admission.
He could hear the way that Joe sat up at the words. “Oh, shit,” he replied, a slow, dreadful drawl.
“I’m scared,” David said, somewhat perfunctorily, wandering listlessly around his apartment, body heavy but unwilling to sit down and let the sickness overtake him. “I don’t know, I should be scared, right?”

we’re having some epic (and dangerous) wind levels here and my neighbour’s 50ft fir tree that overhangs my greenhouse has a branch half off the tree on it. I can’t reach it to hack it off myself, otherwise i’d have done it. It looks so Incredibly dangerous in this wind right now i’m actually kinda worried but I can’t do anything about it. I don’t even like it being there when it’s not windy bc if it fell while i was there it’d brain me (it’s not a walk in greenhouse, it’s a small glass one mounted on a wooden planter).
Or it could just totally destroy the greenhouse i spent hours and hours building mostly by myself even tho it was at least a 2 person job.
Neither of these things are good to me.

my mom just had a 7cm brain tumor removed and since she's woken up she's been talking nonstop about this dream she had about going to an art gallery full of colourful paintings by a 'homosexual artist' named klimsdorf who was ethereal and wise, both young and old... at first she was convinced he was a real person but after failing to find him online she's accepted he was a figment of her subconscious mind and is now determined to bring him to life via painting his portrait herself. she's 67 and has never drawn in her life. and now this. blorbo from her tumor

One time I was working as a waiter at a burger joint where the fries were tossed in salt and coriander and as I was bringing food over to the table for these two huge beefy guys one of them asks what the green stuff is so I go "it's coriander" and his friend goes very seriously "he can't have coriander" and I'm thinking shit ok maybe he's allergic and guy 1 starts pulling up his sleeve to show me something and I'm thinking shit shit shit he's probably breaking out in hives rn and it's my fault but he just shows me his arm and he has this huge cursive font tattoo that just says "I fucking hate coriander"

Trump and His Cognitive Issues
Tumblr media
So. Donald Trump was asked a simple question at a Town Hall-format rally in Pennsylvania on Monday night. It's a moment you might've missed because this was the rally that ended in the weird dance party. But it's a moment worth putting a spotlight on.
The question: “Like my fellow Americans, my grocery bill has not gone down. Everything is still so very expensive. What steps will your administration take to help American families suffering from this inflation?”
It was apparently a pre-screened question, because modern campaigns are micromanaged like that these days. The answer, which Philip Bump of the Washington Post reprinted in its entirety (no-paywall mirror via Microsoft Bing), deserves to be read at length.
“So, you know, it’s such a great question in the sense that people don’t think of grocery. You know, it sounds like not such an important word when you talk about homes and everything else, right? But more people tell me about grocery bills, where the price of bacon, the price of lettuce, the price of tomatoes, they tell me. And we’re going to do a lot of things. “You know, our farmers aren’t being treated properly. And we had a deal with China, and it was a great deal — I never mentioned it because once covid came in, I said, that was a bridge too far because I had a great relationship with President Xi [Jinping]. And he’s a fierce man and he’s a man that likes China and I understand that. But we had a deal and he was perfect on that deal, $50 billion he was going to buy.  We were doing numbers like you wouldn’t believe, for the farmer. But the farmers are very badly hurt. The farmers in this country, we’re going to get them straightened out. We’re going to get your prices down. “But you asked another question about safety and also about Black population jobs and Hispanic population in particular those two. (Bump's footnote: "She did not ask this question.") So when millions of people pour into our country, they’re having a devastating effect on Black families and Hispanic families more than any others. I think it’s going to spread to a lot of other places. “I think it’s going to spread to unions. I think unions are going to have a big problem because, you know, employers are just not going to pay the price. They’re going to — and it’s going to be — it’s a very bad thing that’s happening. “So they’re coming in. Many are coming in from jails and prisons and mental institutions, insane asylums. That’s like, you know, step above, right? Insane asylum. And whenever I go, Hannibal Lecter, you know what I’m talking about. They always go — the fake news. That’s a lot of fake news back there, too."
[Boos from the audience.]
“They always mention — you know, it’s a way of demeaning, they say, ‘Hannibal Lecter, why would he mention?’  Well, you know why, because he was a sick puppy, and we have sick puppies coming into our country. I figured that’s a lot — that’s better than wasting a lot of words. You just say, ‘Hannibal Lecter. We don’t want him.’ But. But they always sort of say, ‘Why would he say that?’ I do it for a lot of reasons. “But I do it because we are allowing some very bad people into our country. And they’re coming as terrorists. You know, you saw the other day, last month they had the record number of terrorists.  I had a month — and I love Border Patrol. “Did you see they gave me a full endorsement two days ago? Border Patrol.”
He just kept rambling like that, getting further and further away from anything resembling a point. Except for the reminder to go vote "January 5th. Or before."
And at the end of the night, he did a little dance on stage. For over half an hour.
His handlers tried to paint it in the best light, but let's be real with each other. Joe Biden, an 80 year-old man, was pressured by elements of his own party to step out of a quest for a second term because they had concerns about his mental fitness. And it took an agonizingly long time, but Biden acquiesced. Granted, all of them were motivated by the poll numbers, but he made a hard choice and it turned out to be the correct one.
Meanwhile, Donald John Trump, a man who is close enough to 80 that I was calling the early campaign the War of the Octogenarians, doesn't have that level of self-awareness, and I'm starting to wonder if he even has access to that part of him anymore. And meanwhile, his campaign, his political party, and his true believers, are all in an outward state of denial, either through genuinely being in the dark or (closer to his inner circle) because they're damn sure going to finish what they started, regardless of the consequences.
The ones who are letting this farce go on because they think can get something out of it are actively committing an act of cruelty against someone at least a few of them claim to care about. The Trump years have exposed what the modern Republican party is to anyone who cares to pay attention, but when it comes to an apparatus trying to paper over a candidate struggling (and failing) to maintain a train of thought? It says something somehow even darker and uglier about everyone involved.
And if somehow they push this project to its desired outcome? We'll have bigger problems than senior abuse to deal with. But maybe the man ostensibly at the center of it all won't even notice.

Dick Grayson's unmatched success as a child vigilante makes a lot more sense when you remember the Court of Owls was a thing and that Dick was meant to be the next Grey Son.
There is no way that someone at Haly's Circus wasn't there keeping an eye on him while he grew up. A future weapon needs to be trained and monitored after all, and a circus, a place where weird skills are completely normal, is actually a great place to secretly train a child.
You know, just some knife tricks that translated really well into actual fighting. How to get out of restraints and pick locks while under a time limit. Death defying acrobatic stunts that coincidentally do wonders for parkouring. That sort of thing. Nothing that seems out of place for a boy growing up around circus performers to learn, but would literally any where else.
I mean, while I fully believe that most kids would want to kill the man responsible for their parents deaths, Dick was weirdly prepared to go through it. He tracked down Zucco with way more ease than any normal child should have too. He became the first child vigilante, for goodness sake. The first Robin! He only started getting formal training after he basically forced Bruce into it!
Bruce himself has no idea that this kind of competency in a child is unusual, considering he was much too blinded by the similarities between his and Dick's tragic orphanhoods.
Alfred is in a similar boat because he’s desensitized to weird children after he somehow managed to successfully raise Bruce 'The Batman' Wayne, so he doesn't clock the hyper-competency as abnormal either.
By the time the other batkids start popping up (Jason 'The Audacity' Todd, borderline-street rat with no fear) (Tim 'the greatest stalker in Gotham history' Drake, child genius, also bullied his way into becoming Robin) (Barbara 'raised by the only uncorrupt cop in gotham' Gordon) (Stephanie 'daddy issues and spite' Brown) (Duke 'Pretends he's the normal one and people believe him' Thomas) it's too late.
It would also explain how Dick got along so well with Damian out of all of them. Similar childhood with different approaches and all that. On some subconscious level, Dick recognises and resonates with the murderous ten year old assassin with strong familial ties to a secret elite assassin organization.
It isn't until after the whole Court of Owls and Grey Son reveal that suddenly Dick realises a whole lot of things about his childhood that suddenly make a lot more sense.
